Reviews of John A. White Golf Course - Home of First Tee - Metro Atlanta

Absolutely spectacle public golf course! Recent changes and upgrades make the courses fun to play and very challenging. PGA tour quality! The hills, twists, and turns on this course will sharpen your game. Reasonable price to play for the budget conscience individuals. I highly recommend this course for any golfer interested in taking their game to the next level.
Jonathan Hovey
Nice 9 hole course and range. Not too long but challenging and fun. The greens are not perfect but it's a good deal for the course. Friendly staff. I hope to take lessons at some point. Also you can get a month pass if you golf a lot. I don't go enough with my schedule so I just pay per round.
Jason Eberhard
Nice 9 hole layout, practice areas and range, and the pro was very friendly when I came thru. Great laid back golfing option to get out and play in the city.
Stacey Blount
An absolutely great golf course I would like to think Mr. Shelton Davis for his great hospitality on the behalf of the Blount family we would like to thank you so much for everything you've done to make our day very special.
JP Master Barber
Nice quick nine holes of 🏌. Challenging from the blue tees with two par fives, you are sure to get your 💵 💴 worth. …
Tyrone Spaulding
John A white is a nice course that should be on every golfer's list to play....9 holes with nice greens any plush fairways.....can be challenging..so don't sleep on this course...take the challenge and see how you score..
Spiceda Jackson
Loved our first FIRST TEE experience here.

If you love golf, you want to love John White golf course. It has history. It is one of the original public tracks in Atlanta, named in honor of one of the men who supported golf courses like Candler Park and Piedmont Park (yes, there was a nine-hole course there).
And it has interesting, varied holes, even with the ugly concrete culvert that slashes through its center. In fact, I can't think of a single hole that doesn't have some interesting problem or attractive terrain. For example, the second hole, a par 3 through a chute of trees to a bunkered but fair green. The third, possibly drivable if you cut the corner over the trees. The 9th, where you may want to use two 5 woods rather than a driver, because if you hit a driver, you might end up on a severe downhill lie - no good for the very elevated green.
So it's a shame, then, that in the decade I've been going to White, the greens have always been in terrible condition. I just don't understand why the course cannot appear to solve this problem. It is no underestimate to say that most of the greens - with the possible exceptions of 5 and 7 - are practically unplayable. PLEASE, City of Atlanta, PLEASE, put some money towards these greens - and PLEASE John White Course, PLEASE have the courage to close some greens for a while while they are reseeded. Surely it will pay off in the long term.
EDIT BASED ON RESPONSE BELOW: I have been impressed with the many responses to other reviews and the one to my review brings great news about the greens. I wanted to confirm Mr. Hightower's assertions - I played yesterday and did indeed notice clearance of underbrush and trees, particularly on the 9th hole. Anyway, it's great news to hear about the greens, because it's potentially a gem of a course with a friendly clubhouse and a good driving range area.

Played this course last week- it’s a relatively short 9 hole course, and pretty cheap. The greens were in almost unplayable shape. Like mud pits on the fringes, etc, and dirt spots. Main issue I had was there was no ranger/pace of play. We caught up with two guys that were hitting about 4-5 balls on each shot. They were bad, which meant they’d then spend time going to find all the ones they hit. It took us 3 hours to play nine holes, which is unacceptable. It’s fine to have people who aren’t good, but there needs to be some regulation on pace of play. I doubt there ever will be here.

Nicely maintained course. Great area for golf and recreation for the community to get involved in. Very welcoming, accommodating, courteous and knowledgeable staff. My son had a junior golf tournament there, while at the same time they were putting on a camp for 1st Tee of Atlanta. It was super awesome to see so many kids involved, as well as so many adult volunteers there to teach, lead, and guide the campers. Although they were busy putting on the camp, they were very courteous to make room for us so we could get warmed up. I wish I could remember the gentlemans name who I spoke with that was one of the directors... nice guy. It was a great experience for us, and we will definitely be back!

Fairways excellent. Greens and traps need work. Closing on 6/6/2 .for maintenance.

This is a delightful, municipal 9 hole course with a good variety of holes in an interesting layout that can fit the bill if you're looking to play a stimulating, non-country club course, at a very reasonable rate.
The fairways are Bermuda grass. There are elevation changes, bunkers, out of bounds fences, trees, water features, and sloped terrain and greens. You may have to think your way around the course, like maybe not choosing driver on all the non-par 3 holes and thinking about how to adjust for elevation differences. It is walkable, but some may find it strenuous. They do have carts and rental clubs. This course is also known for being the First Tee of Atlanta, which tries to introduce golf to those who haven't had much experience. In that regard, the workers and volunteers here are stewards of the sport.
Fwiw, their phones were not functioning recently.
Jamel DaCosta
Great 9 hole course that allows you to utilize your entire golf game. The staff is extremely helpful and they have the best deal in town on range balls. Highly recommended!
Jorge Garcia
My favorite public course inside the perimeter. Only 9 hole course I know with two 500 yd par 5's. Greens are wonderful in the summer and better than most around town all year long. And $12 for 9 and $18 for 18, best price you'll find anywhere. You can play it 5 days a week and never get bored.
Nicholas Steen
I would say 3 stars for the overall quality of the course, but it's $20 for 9 holes with a cart to drive around in, so with that in mind it's great fun. 2x par 5s and a few par 3s that are so short enough to hit the green with a 7 iron. I don't think there's a cheaper way to play golf in Atlanta and would say that if you can look past the large swaths of dead grass and hexagonal patches of grass interspersed with sand on the greens, it's just a really fun course. It's not Augusta but then again it doesn't pretend to be, so if you don't take yourself too seriously it's hard not to have a good time playing this course.
J Dennis
Professional and caring staff. They have a rolling canopy for sun and rain protection. My kid took lessons and enjoyed the experience.
Norman McKenzie
The course is in the best shape it's been in. Number 9 green does need some work. Sand trap / bunker on every hole. Ground crew does an excellent job. Enjoy playing golf there.
Stefanie White
The First Tee of Atlanta is a top notch program! My son and I are very pleased to be a part of this golf family. The course and range facilities are excellent and the staff is friendly and approachable. It is definitely worth the drive to come out and enjoy this golf facility and all it has to offer.
Faith DeBartola
Played this course on a weekday and walked 9 holes. For a $12, same as a bucket of balls pretty much anywhere you go in Atlanta, it simply cannot be beat inside the Perimeter. The greens fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. It appeared a couple holes had some rough spots but they had laid sod in those areas and had people working on them the entire round. This truly is a hidden gem and I will be back multiple times to play in the future.
JOHN DOE
WONDERFUL OUTSTANDING SERVICE
Joey Reasor
Great 9 hole course. You can hit every club in your bag, and the greens are in great shape. If you walk it, you can also get a good cardio workout in.
Vegas Mitchell
The Greens have been HORRIBLE For Over 2yrs now & last week after not going there for a yr even the DRIVING Range is looking like SHT. Well this Young Bruh stated that's because they haven't had a Superintendent in 2yrs & that's the Last time i saw the guy Working on the Putting Green which use 2 look really Nice but again the Greens & practice Greens are looking like pure SHT!! 1st Tee & City of Atlanta doing a FK'D Up job in Preserving that place. 10yrs from now when the "INVADERS" Have Fully invaded that area then they shall get it back right!! 🤔

This park, golf course, and entire area is a beautiful, well-kept, and VERY safe park. Lots of African Americans of all ages playing golf here. Its a beautiful site to see. Upscale clean environment.
Dean B
Decent nine hole course for practicing your game with a driving range. The fairways and course design are positives but the several of the greens were in terrible shape.
Matthew Dillard
Very hilly, not good for walking. Greens very sandy. The low fairways dont hold water well.
Andrew Kurdelski
Inexpensive place that is great for beginners and intermediate players. Some of the holes are close to houses so you have to be a bit careful if you're not a pro. Course was nice and varied.
Phil Jackson
Great place to play a quick 9 or 18. Range and short game area. Course is in good shape, a couple of greens need help. I will play there often this summer.
Brett Charap
This is actually a great public golf course for beginners.
Jake Witherbee
Decent course, fun layout, always laid back Greens and bunkers are usually in rough shape, but I always enjoy playing here.
Elwood T. Gibson II

Course is in great shape. If only it were 18 holes instead of 9. Went around twice and had an awesome time.
Nathan James
Excellent public golf course. For the most part, it was in great shape. The neighborhood is a little rough, but it's a lot of fun. I would recommend it.
Qiana Butler
I visited the driving range as this was my first time at the course. The grass was manicured and I was able to hit with no issue. I will definitely be back as I had a great time.
Ronald Brown
Great courses but I'm going to have to continue to play if I want to get better a little rusty right now but it'll come back.

Jyl Blensinger
The late pro, Mr. Elijah Walker, gave my son a good leg up on life. Helped to teach him not only a great game, but to build sportsmanship and comraderie. I know that Travis and Tammy will continue his legacy. My son's picture appeared in GOLF DIGEST magazine many years ago with Mr. Walker and the team. I still javelin one copy that I treasure. Joel was 9 years old. I used to be a volunteer mom, driving the carts for the kids and helping to keep score on the Monday tournaments. Wonderful days. Great people. Love to you both Travis/Tammy. Jyl [Joel's momma] Blensinger. I wish you all well. Joel is doing great. Is healthy and happily married. Please take care of yourselves. Many fond memories, Ms. B.
Hannah Burke

The periphery could use some attention (stairs, fence, etc.), but the green itself is good.
