We had our wedding and reception at Opal 28 in March of 2022. Overall, the experience was perfect and the day turned out better than we'd imagined. We went with a small wedding, 37 people total. We used Opal 28 for the ceremony and reception, and The Pie Spot for dessert. We took pictures at Laurelhurst park before the ceremony. The entire Opal28 team was so amazing to work with. They were very responsive to all our questions, going above and beyond to help us celebrate safely and making accommodations for our covid protocols. The space itself is lovely, it's nice having multiple rooms and spaces for everyone to spread out in, each space having a different atmosphere. Having LJ as our day of coordinator and Kristi helping us coming up to the event was such a huge help. Besides the beautiful space, the staff is the best reason to come to opal. One of the best decisions we made was paying the few hundred extra to have LJ and the opal staff take care of setting up and taking down our decor. They made it look waaaayyy better than anything we could have done on our own. LJ made sure the day went smoothly, making sure everyone and everything was in its right place at the right time. The other huge bonus to Opal 28 is having the apartments above. We rented out all four apartments for our wedding weekend, and it made the whole weekend that much better. Not having to worry about travel to or from the venue, having a space just above the venue to get ready, and how spacious the apartments are, made the weekend go so much smoother. If we ever have a reason to throw another event like this in the area, we would book with Opal 28 again in a heartbeat. Thank you, LJ, Kristi, and the whole Opal 28 team for making our wedding day perfect.

We rented Opal28 for our wedding ceremony and reception and could not have been happier! Their team was easy to work with and they really ensured that we had a fun and magical evening. It's a beautiful, intimate venue perfect for our 50-person guest list. Opal28 provided the dinner as well, and it was so delicious. I highly recommend them for any sort of gathering, big or small. I almost want to have another party just so we can rent the space again!

We had our rehearsal dinner here and the staff went above and beyond to make everything perfect. The personal touches with the signage and candles made us so happy! Communication with LJ was great throughout the whole process. Couldn’t have been happier putting our trust with Opal to make our night one to remember.

We chose to have our vow renewal there. I was happy with the scenery and ambiance of the venue. That said, there were some things that were not the best for us. 1.) our first assigned coordinator said I kept changing things and was high maintenance which was not true, 2.) we were asked several times about cutting the food and not a lot of food was put out on the tables so as much as we paid, it was chintzy and some guests could tell and remarked on how they cut food, 3.) they turned the heat on in the room we were dancing in and I’m 33 weeks pregnant and so I really sweated and that was annoying. The new coordinator did a good job of organizing the ceremony and the service, but should have checked with us during the reception. Also we luckily managed to transport the flowers though that was tricky. We loved the mocktails and the closeness of the venue but we just observed a few gaps, so otherwise I would say we were pleased and happy with our day, but it not meet every desire we had and it could have.

As a Wedding Officiant I have had the pleasure of performing weddings at Opal 28. The staff is always caring, the site is just as sweet as can be, the courtyard is beautiful! The building is well maintained. And looks great for being built in 1908. The one challenge can be parking. Lyft or Uber would be a great way to travel to an event.

We went to a wedding at Opal 28. It was lovely. The staff were great. They managed all the decorating and seating. The venue is set up with 3 different rooms and a patio. The ceremony was in one room and there was seating in the other room, the bar was in another. After the ceremony they set up tables and chairs for eating. In the other room they cleared the floor for dancing. Food was set up in the bar and in the dance room. The staff moved things around in a way that seemed seamless to me. I would highly recommend this venue for your next event or gathering. There are rooms upstairs for rent. The bride stayed in one and her brother and his family stayed in another. It was very convenient for getting ready for the wedding.

We held our postponed wedding reception at Opal28 and couldn't be happier! The staff was very communicative during our decision making process as well as giving us the space needed to reschedule our event. On the day of, it was very easy for us and we appreciate the relaxed and professional staff support. Our guests raved about the food and we loved the intimate atmosphere of the patio. We would certainly use Opal28 again for a future party!

They ran things smoothly and we did not have to worry anything through out the preparation. The venue is very unique and historical. Great place for intimate party and small group celebration. We used Opal 28 to host a small retirement party for my dad. The event was perfect and many people commented at how cool the space was. It really is a hidden gem as you can't see the patio from the street. Once you walk through the door from the street, it's a private, urban oasis. I love that there are a few trees and other greenery so it's not just concrete. The inside is also lovely and the furniture, tables, and chairs are simple, but just right. The staff was amazing and responsive (sometimes it would take a day or two for an email response, but I got right through the one or two times I called). I hope we can find a good excuse to use Opal 28 again soon! They are reasonably priced and a package deal (they do food, drinks, and tables/linens). Thank you Opal 28!!!

I threw a 70 person birthday party for my sister at this venue and we had a wonderful time. The space is cool, interesting and intimate. The food was delicious and the drinks well made. They had adequate staff for all of our needs and helped us plan every step of the way. Highly recommend!

The team at Opal28 is amazing! We started planning a Creations for Cures fundraiser with them in 2019 for 2020 and they were so flexible during the pandemic allowing us to reschedule and while staying in communication with us. They made our fundraiser so special! The space is beautiful, the food is amazing, and the people are super friendly. Definitely recommend them for any event!

We absolutely LOVED working with Opal 28! From start to finish they were an absolute joy. They were a well-oiled machine with clear and consistent communication throughout the entire process. The staff were SO attentive and kind, there were no surprise fees, and everyone went beyond the call of duty. Having an Opal 28 on-site coordinator (shoutout Ranessa) for the process and wedding day made planning a breeze. She made everything run so smoothly and we really felt that we had nothing to worry about. Even with the ever-changing Covid rules, she and the rest of the staff were always cool, calm, and collected. Being able to have the music piped through the venue sound system gave us one less thing to worry about. That also goes for their on-site catering. A few months after the wedding we’re still having guests tell us how fantastic the food was, both cocktail hour appetizers and the plated dinner! (The goat cheese balls, lemonade-brined fried chicken, and avocado toast were fantastic cocktail appetizers. The salmon and carrots for dinner were also phenomenal). Having the ability to bring in our own decorations and dessert made it so we could set our own budget and do whatever we wanted. They even kept our desserts in their fridge and helped us box up the leftovers. Opal 28 also has apartments above the event space that we rented out. That made getting ready and having a place to stay really easy. We cannot rave about Opal 28 enough!

Opal 28 was great! My husband and I booked our 100 person wedding with them! We knew it was a tighter fit for our guest count but for the price it was perfect. And we lucked out with excellent weather which meant we could have our ceremony outside and then mingle in and out of the whole venue. The staff were great! We worked with Kara the most and she was amazing. Flexible, attentive, and always willing to help. We couldn't have asked for a better place to exchange our vows and celebrate! We recommend this to anyone looking for something intimate and in town. They're great!

We hosted our 90 person wedding here and can only rave about the staff and venue. The intimate venue has multiple rooms indoors and a patio, perfect for an event where naturally people meander and socialize, instead of one large hall. We felt the flow of our wedding was much better with this arrangement. We opted to have their kitchen provide the food during our celebration for ease, and were pleasantly surprised by how good everything tasted. Our wedding menu was a hit! More than anything, the staff sets this place apart. We lived overseas when we began wedding planning, so having staff who were prompt and responsive to inquiries was essential. Bonus: Opal 28 has sample pricing so you can get an up front idea of what your ideal event would likely cost. Kara, the event planner and day of coordinator, was worth every single cent and made sure our wedding prep and day were almost free of stress, we'll as much as it could be. If we ever have another party or event in Portland, we'll be back at Opal 28!

I just had my wedding there this past weekend and have been working w/ Opal28 staff and owner pretty extensively over the past few months. Margot the owner was absolutely incredible, she's down to the point, means business but is also generous and extremely kind at the same time. We were worried about size of venue for the outdoor ceremony, but in the end there was nothing to worry about. The patio was packed to the brim, but in the most beautiful way. Our ceremony also had a lot of details that were not normal for typical weddings, Margot managed every single detail and everything went smoothly and perfectly. I can't thank Opal28 enough for dealing with all my craziness. I'm forever grateful.

I was maid of honor at a wedding here this weekend. The property is so lovely, centrally located. The apartments were so cute. The only thing I recommend is replacing the mattresses in Apts 1 and 2. Our bed was so soft and lumpy we both sank into the middle. There is a permanent resident in one of the units that came out with a lot of attitude with the married couple as everyone met upstairs after the reception. Wasn't necessary to come at a bride like that (it was not even 9pm yet) and they were just walking to their room. Other than those two things the stay and reception were perfect. The food was EXCELLENT. I would recommend it to anyone wanting an intimate event.

Attended an intimate wedding and dinner at Opal28. The venue was perfect (great patio, tucked away in middle of a block), the food delicious, and the staff so friendly and accommodating. So happy in these crazy times we were still able to have an amazing, perfect celebration.

We had our company Christmas party here and it was excellent! We had about 30 people in the size was absolutely perfect for that many. The food was incredibly good. The drinks were good (though as a snooty beer person, I would have preferred a slightly different set of options for beers to drink). The best part was the staff. They were attentive and friendly. My coworker organized the event, and he said a dozen times how easy they made everything. I hope we have our Christmas party here also!

Our company holiday party was held in their space and it was lovely! They took care of the decorations, food and drinks, so all we had to do was show up. The bar staff was friendly and the kitchen staff was quick to refill and answer questions about ingredients. The indoor space is broken up into smaller rooms, which helps it to not get too loud. It was December so we didn't use the patio much but they had heaters outside so a few people were out there for a little bit and were comfortable.

We had our small brunch wedding and reception at Opal 28- I honestly would not change a thing with my experience with the event/venue/staff. I worked with Kara - who is such a calming, professional, and confident individual. I had no worries and trusted her entirely to make my small vision come true. Kara oversaw every detail and executed it flawlessly. I could not have asked for a better wedding. She coordinated all the vendors - who by the way were absolutely on point (so please, do yourself a favor and consider their suggestions) and the food was fantastic, our guests really enjoyed it. Also, little shoutout to Dan - he’s an fantastic human and a top notch bartender. Thank you to the entire Opal 28 team, we’ll forever be thankful for pulling off our dream!

I would absolutely recommend this venue for any type of casual or formal event, as the multi-space set-up would work extremely well for small or large groups! well as a large outdoor courtyard area. We celebrated my husbands 60th birthday at Opal 28 on 5/23/2015. I was super impressed with Margot and her team. From the very day I called inquiring about the space, she was professional, patient and very helpful!! She assisted and encouraged me along the way in making party decisions and that is exactly what I needed. The venue was perfect. There was always someone nearby to help and to answer questions. Our guests were treated very well and had an excellent time. The food was delicious. The apartments upstairs were comfortable and convenient. I would absolutely recommend Opal 28 to anyone. I was a guest at an event at Opal 28, and I think the most telling aspect of my experience is that nothing was lacking. The event space was clean and nicely decorated in theme with the occasion. The atmosphere felt timelessly sophisticated, very much in line with the vintage nature of the space. Opal 28 managed to achieve both elegance and comfort. The outside patio offered privacy from the street and successfully harnessed the magic one often feels on beautiful summer evenings. I look forward to someday staying in one of the vintage apartments they have available and would love to host my own event in this beautiful venue.

I've been to Opal 28 for so many different occasions - because it is one of the best event spaces in town! And every one was so different - from Abacela wine pickup/tastings to a friend's wedding announcement party, and more. Impeccable service and *delicious* hors d'oeuvres - and I have to mention just when I thought the food service was over, the staff always kept coming out with more! The environment is inviting, with two very big rooms inside filled with natural light. Plus outside, a lovely courtyard area for private moments (like if you came with a date). And currently they are renovating to improve on what was already a wonderful event space. Plus parking just down the street! Post-Covid 19, I highly recommend anyone considering having a reception party, art pop up, or wine tasting event to hold it at Opal28. You will be happy you did!

The thing about wedding receptions is you only get one shot to host all the the people you love the most. There are so many "places with potential" or "this might work" type feelings it seems. For us, and our experience, we had none of those thoughts or worries and that is because we chose to host our wedding day at Opal 28 with Margot and her staff. We sincerely thank them and wish them nothing but continued success. We hosted 65 guests for both our ceremony and the reception. Opal 28 is the ideal event space for events of this size. That's not to say the space couldn't host double that size. In fact, for wedding planning it was nice to know that no matter how many people ended up coming Opal 28 could handle it. Love the centrally located bar which allowed guests to move around comfortably from the beautiful patio to the inside rooms. Margot does a phenomenal job of helping to decorate and knows just how to organize the space according to the needs of the night. It is such a unique and wonderful space and the apartments for rent above are fabulous as well and hosted our bridal party beautifully- so convenient and easy! From start to finish we felt cared for. Margot seemed to have it all. Extra flatware, the ability to be flexible (still appreciate the substitute last minute beer request), energy, and organizational skills. We'd be so happy to attend someone else's wedding at Opal 28!

Opal 28 hosted our intimate wedding ceremony and dinner March 28, 2014. Leading up to the event, I was impressed with Margot's professional communication and supportive approach. She was attentive, flexible and helped keep my anxiety at bay during the planning process. I thought the terms of our contract were fair and I think Margot does a great job of balancing outside vendor restrictions very reasonably. Cocktail hour, dinner and all of the Opal 28 staff during our event were great - Margot went above and beyond to help us fix a last minute technical issue and one of her bartenders even offered to drive a group of our guests to our after party spot. We rented out 3 of the 4 rooms upstairs for the weekend and found them to be super comfortable, VERY CLEAN and inviting; so did our out of town guests. We did have several things that didn't go smoothly with our event. I recently emailed Margot with my feedback and she handled my concerns with grace and professionalism which is all anyone could ask for. Although there were some disappointments, none of the oversights were intentional. Overall our experience was positive and I appreciate everything that Margot and her team did to make our wedding weekend special.

My daughter Eleana selected Opal 28 as her wedding reception venue. When I saw it I thought it was perfect for the 58 guests. The venue has a Portland neighborhood -friendly vibe, and provided a great canvas for the Japanese theme. Margot made the planning of the event pretty stress free. Since we were doing the planning from out of town, her online Honeybook system made all communication easy. If planning a wedding reception take her advice and hire Kristi, Opal's event coordinator. She took care of putting up decorations and removing them after the party was over. She was always available and eager to please so the event went smoothly. The vegan menu of stuffed Portobello mushrooms was really delicious and the guests were so pleased With the food and service. After the cake cutting guests went to another room for dancing, and some went to their outdoor courtyard for mingling. The flow was wonderful as people went in and outside of the building. Everyone loved the atmosphere of the venue. Also, the staff is professional yet personable. I would give Opal28 six stars if I could because they exceeded our expectations in every way. Oh, I would recommend renting the apartments upstairs of the venue because it made everything much more convenient and at the end of the night we just walked upstairs and collapsed.

I can’t think of a better place to have had a graduation party. My whole experience with Opal 28 was extremely positive. The space which combines features of vintage and modern, has two rooms, a full service bar, and an outdoor patio area with lovely market lights. We had 70 guests, and while the environment was ideal for that number, it could have easily handled more. In addition, the pricing was reasonable, with cost-consciousness in the forefront. Words that come to mind about Margot, the owner and creator of Opal 28, are: flexible, available, informative, and creative, taking into account particular wishes. Margot was accommodating and helpful, not only to myself but also to the off-site caterer; we quickly realized it was better to cut me out of the middle so that she could take over the reigns. After discussing the appetizer and dinner selection, plus the age of guests, Margot suggested having larger tables, and opening up the party buffet into a second room, so the flow of the event would fit the space more easily. It was the perfect suggestion. She also offered a wonderfully creative idea for a photo/memory guest book, that I really appreciated and had not thought of; something I will cherish. Another delightful detail she contributed was hiring a superb cookie baker/designer. In summary, Margot has an ideal set of talents that allow her to create a charming environment, hire professional staff, work with off-site vendors, and also has the perfect industry connections. It is this combination that permit client needs to be best accommodated. She is truly an event planner par excellence, and I recommend her most highly.

We've used Opal 28 half a dozen times in the past year for client and small, community building dinners and will likely never use any other venue! We've done both family style and plated dinners and all have been executed by the Opal 28 team with attention to detail, professionalism and excellence. We love Margot and her skilled team who always go the extra mile to make sure our events are a success. One staff member in particular, Genevieve, is friendly, reliable and an enormous help to us on event day. We know we're in good hands with Genevieve! The venue itself is well decorated and cozy--and it has everything you need to make your event feel professional but also intimate and comfortable.

Absolutely stunning. A beautiful location with plenty of space for a large gathering and staff that was exceptional. I really can't say enough about it. The layout is divided and multi-layered so that it never seems too crowded with multiple bars and eating areas. I have never experienced such a large party (with plenty of drinking) go so smoothly. (Wedding Reception 6-13-15) They even have some beautiful lodging upstairs that the bride/groom and family stayed in. I would never have imagined such a picturesque place so near to the heart of the city. Bravo!

BEST. VENUE. EVER. And I'm not exaggerating. That is quite an understatement. I still have no words to fully explain how wonderful this venue is. I'm still in shock by how incredible Kristi and Margot are, as well as the full staff that a part of our wedding day. Every single one of our wedding guests were FLOORED by the professionalism, the design and how beautiful everything was organized and set up. My job literally dropped when I saw how my entire wedding was decorated and how everything was placed. The space is amazing. There is so much you can do with it, and the chic industrial feel brings it all together. We used every single inch of that space, it was perfect. They are so accommodating, so patient, so kind, and so generous. Finding a venue that was all inclusive was phenomenal and took SO much off my hands. I could cry for how thankful I am for finding this venue and working with these lovely ladies. It was so neat to have a venue do the catering, the bar, staff, set up and set down, and then having the space. I felt like I didn't have to lift a finger. They were always to nice when I spoke with them, doing everything they possibly could to make it easier on me. The upstairs rooms that can be rented for wedding party and/or guests are BEAUTIFUL. I thought I died and went to heaven. We are from Seattle and had our wedding in Portland because we couldn't find anything better than what Opal 28 offered. I can't wait for another opportunity to have an event there. I'm so excited to see where Opal 28 goes and how much they will end up succeeding as a wedding and special events venue!!!

My husband and I held our 10th anniversary party at Opal 28. Our wedding was a potluck in a backyard, so this was the only large event we have ever put on. Margo was stellar and supportive as I fumbled through the planning process. She is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and accommodating. We brought our own infused liquors for the open bar, and Margo's staff set up our catered food (Al Amir). Everything went so smoothly. The venue is beautiful. The location is uber convenient. The outdoor courtyard is on two levels, so people had room to spread out while maintaining intimate conversations. All of our guests were impressed. I'd recommend Opal 28 to anyone. I love that Opal 28 has AirBnB apartment upstairs that you can rent, too! They've been remodeled, and are super cute We stayed in an apartment that had stairs directly to the courtyard, so we got to chill there before guests showed up. It's all very well put together. We couldn't have been happier.

Good food, even better drinks, Great bar tenders, and Great service from all staff. All employees worked together so smoothly as if they were a well oiled machine. Inside is much bigger than it appears to be from the outside. Also has a beautiful private outdoor patio weather dependent, not covered. If it was it would not be so beautiful. In my opinion the staff that worked the 12/12/2019 Holliday party did a GREAT JOB. WONDERFUL JOB TO ALL THE OPAL STAFF.

This is one of those places you remember just by the atmosphere alone. It's a very nice building that was perfect for hosting the wedding I attended there. Such a classy spot with an excellent patio that is uncovered, but allows for those perfect Portland summer nights to be enjoyed fully. This place's interior screams Portland and it fits many styles. God, where to start? Seriously, everything was perfect! First, we switched venues about 3 months before the wedding because we had a smaller guest list than anticipated (it was a destination wedding for everyone). I was stressed, looking for a venue that was small, in our price range, and could offer the 1920s feel for our themed wedding. I had originally passed over this venue initially because I wasn't sure if it would fit the theme. I was so wrong to do that! We finally went in to look at the venue and the website did not do it justice. The space is beautiful and flexible, it was literally transformed to a romantic, vintage but glam lounge. It was better than anything I had imagined and planned for! Kristi was phenomenal to work with from the start. She was responsive to emails, super friendly, and worked great with our wedding coordinator to ensure our vision was carried out. They even let us use one of the apartments to wait in before the ceremony since we got ready at the hotel, and had two bottles of champagne waiting for us. It's the little things that are important to me. The small details such as having our signature drinks waiting for us when we got back from photos around the city during cocktail hour, to making sure we were fed first so we didn't starve all evening. Kristi even special ordered the gin we wanted for one of the signature drinks and the team also offered champagne in the dining room right before the toasts. We were even able to send in our recipe for the bartender to use. The venue was full service and had our decor cleaned up and ready for our parents to take after the sparkler send off, which was impressive! That way no one had to wait around after. I appreciated everything Opal 28 had to offer and highly recommend them for any event!

I hosted an intimate business conference at Opal 28 this past weekend (20ish people) and everyone LOVED the space. We had workshops, yoga stretches and even cooked and ate dinner together. It was fabulous having full run of the place with some minimal supervision from the staff. Margot and her team were fabulous to work with and I'll definitely be back again next year.

Great small-medium event spot with two indoor spaces, a bar, a sweet little patio area and several small apartments available for your out-of-town guests. They really cover all the bases: food, music, parking, big screen for videos, etc. Light & bright. We loved it.

I won't be surprised when this space is booked solid after word gets out. Portland needed more deluxe mid-sized venues, and Opal 28 has it all: historical character and up-to-date style, easy to customize indoor rooms, a charming outdoor patio garden (complete with strings of white lights criss-crossing the skies!), a great bar, full commercial kitchen, and great assortment of on-hand items for groups like ours to use. We hosted an informal night of food and drinks with PDX Food Swap friends and featured a guest speaker from out of town. Margot's space could have easily accommodated five or six times the number of people, and yet it still felt perfectly suited to our group of 25-ish as people mingled near the bar, on the couches, outside on the terrace, and in the front room. The stash of plates, cutlery, napkins, etc., and the existing decor made it easy to set up and offer a beautiful spread, clean up was a cinch, and people are still talking about what a lovely night we had.
