Reviews of El Rey Theatre
It's an intimate venue with a capacity of about 700. Its decor is mostly red with large jeweled chandeliers and ornate sconces. The workers keep a walking space nice and open throughout the show. The lighting and sound are well done. Bring ear plugs if you're over 30.
There's not a bad seat in the house. A very intimate setting with a small bar and even an upper level. The theater itself is very cozy.. My only issue was the check-in system for ticketing. We had bought tickets online and the box office needed to verify our tickets with the original seller's email as opposed to the actual ticket. It made the check-in process SUPER SLOW and confusing. There was only two workers in the box office. We ended up going through security then being sent back to the front because we had the tickets but hadn't checked in to verify the email. I truly think there is a better way of doing this, especially since there was no prior indication in the front stating we had to still go to the box office (alot of people were confused with being sent there). The show itself was great and the staff was super nice.
I worked in the live music industry for several years, so I’m far from unbiased about how music venues are run. This place went above and beyond with helping me attend a concert with my six-year-old daughter. Fernando (if I’m remembering correctly) was quick to help both on the phone when I had questions and when I arrived, and another member of the staff (whose name I didn’t get but I wish I had!) helped me find a good spot for my daughter and I to watch the show without obstructing anyone’s view. Beautiful and well-maintained venue with incredible staff!
The venue is beautiful! First time going there and it was great! Everyone from the security crew to the bar crew and the restroom attendants were super nice!
So ok, I went specifically for Light Asylum because I just love them! Especially Shannon! I couldn't believe I was in the same room with her! I love her vibe, her voice, and energy and of course her music!!!
The other bands was my first time seeing them but OMG !!! I wasn't ready for such awesomeness!!!
I hope more bands of this genre and even clubs continue to be invited to this venue! They closed The Monte Cristo but I just found a proper replacement with this one haha! Oh I love it!
A nice and intimate venue that is good for catching a show. Parking is a little bit of a pain (as with most places), but they have it! Caught the MisterWives show about a week ago and enjoyed the layout of the venue. If you want drinks, check out the upstairs balcony since the main floor usually has a line.
Also, definitely recommend pre-gaming at All Seasons Brewing Company about a 5 minute walk from here. Great selection of beers and they even have an awesome taco place inside called "Chicas Tacos" that' pretty good!
Beautiful venue. Perfect size. Not too big or small. Easy parking & entrance. Very enjoyable & awesome first visit!
Nice venue. Park on Wilshire at the parking meters. They are free after 9pm I believe. The first floor has three different elevations to make it a little easier to see for us shorties. The lowest level is a large dance floor, a slightly elevated middle area, and then a slightly more elevated area on the sides. There's also a second floor balcony that was not being used at the Pnau show I attended.
There are no seats… just letting you know. But the venue is nice and you can go into the adjacent restaurant even after you’ve entered
Vintage and tattered. Old and dirty. But for some reason, I still enjoy shows here. Intimate atmosphere. Pretty much anywhere you stand, you have a glimpse of the stage. Worth it to me. Woman bathroom line is long AF. Parking is horrendous. Pay to park or you will spend a lot of time driving around. Pay attention to permit parking only. Also, CASHLESS venue
I've been here twice. Both times were very memorable and special to me. The staff here is nice and very professional. The bartenders make some mean drinks and overall this place has become my favorite location for intimate concerts. 10/10
The El Rey Theatre is located off of Wilshire and is super cute and cozy for a concert venue. I LOVED THEIR LIGHTING. they did such a great job with the lights for the performance and the standing area is positioned in a way where you can see from every position since there are steps! The only issue is that the parking situation is very stressful and there are so many conflicting parking signs. Make sure to read the signs carefully so that you don't get a ticket. There is lots of street parking if you keep driving along the neighborhoods and most open up after 7pm.
This is a beautiful intimate theatre. Vintage chandeliers and decor. Friendly staff. Just wish the $16 cost for 2 drinks wasn't charged as $56 on my card!!!! Waiting for response from management.
Not bad at all. Beautiful venue with good sound and some great shows. Bar is just ok and you need yo go out to grab a snack. That's really bad...
Life is not perfect...
Such a cool venue inside, always feels like a really intimate show. I also like the sound here - its loud, but they don't push it like some LA venues
Wow!!! Really love what they did to this place. I don't remember it being this nice back in 1998. If you ever want to see your favorite band play this is the perfect place to see them. The place is small and it's standing room only on the floor level. 🤘🤘🤘This means you can be as close to the stage as you want. If you rather sit down then you can buy a ticket on the balcony level. The sound is great there. Two bars for drinks.🍻 Not enough restrooms though.
Nice venue. Went to a jazz concert here.
Not big but very historic. A lot of different venu6and productions.
I've been here about 6 times now, and I love coming back. Every time I've come, it's always been a great concert, great experience, and the stage is small which makes it enjoyable because no matter where you stand, you'll be able to see the singer and band with ease.
The venue is extremely intimate. Tickets are usually $20-30 and an additional $10-15 fee, so the tickets are cheap but it's worth the view, and the sound. Speakers are nice and loud for both acoustic and heavy instruments like drums, guitar, and sound boards.
I absolutely enjoy going on the side wall because it's always a perfect view to see the singers. There is an incline on the center floor so you can get a good view even if you're in the back. The balcony is usually for VIPs when a concert is performing, so I've never been up there and I only know they have tables and chairs.
The staff are quick to do security check and ticket scan so you get inside easy. They're also nice when you're in a spot you don't belong, or have any questions. They also go outside in line to give 21+ years old wrist bands so they can easily get an alcoholic beverage inside.
The bar is great; they offer soda for underage people and it's quick to get a drink even lf there's a line.
The bathrooms are really clean and they always offer small items like gum, mint, chocolate, etc. For a charge of course but it's convenient if you need/want any of those things.
The only issue I've had with coming here is parking. There is a structure right around the corner of the venue but it's not always available. Sometimes I'll go to the structure two blocks down by the bank because it's 24 hours and easy to get to.
Overall, I love this venue. If a performance or show is happening at El Rey, everyone needs to at least experience it once.
Very cool venue! I like the intimacy and how up close and personal it can be. Make sure to pre-game before you get there though trust me lol!
Lovely venue for live music. One thing that stood out was the lack of air circulation.. I'm sure it's because of the age of building but the heat became overwhelming by the end of the show. Aside from that the sound was fantastic and I had a great time jamming out with Raphael Saddiq!
The unique layout with a multi level platform on both sides of the floor and a small VIP balcony, gives nearly everyone a good view of the stage.
Rail is short, probably 25 people across, stage is chest high with a photo pit.
Capacity just below 800.
Saw Alex Isley. Excellent location. Wish they had parking. Otherwise great theatre setting for intimate performances.
I went to a 070 Shake concert here with my sister. It was clean, it's not very big but I liked that it wasn't.
First time tonight attending the El Rey Theatre and loved it! Game Grumps live was amazing! (Didn't take pictures DURING show!)
Real nice! I will go there again. Go in and vier Right, upstairs great seating. Some tables are reserved, says band name only... Have fun.😁 …
Always a good show! I liked how they had seats on the side!
Went to go see Meg Myers October 2015 AND 2018! The venue is in great shape - velvet everywhere. Feels royal. The lighted signs outside are spectacular. And it's just right - not to big, not too small. Best of all, there is free parking after 8pm at street meters all around. I tend to find empty spots west and south of the venue that require some walking. One of the best concert venues in Los Angeles!
Sick venue! But your security is absolutely ridiculous. You can’t enjoy a show without them screaming/man handling you
Love the small cozy personal performances you get at the El Rey theatre. It's in a nice area named Miracle Mile with lots of good eats around. They have valet parking or if you are lucky you can find parking on your own.
Saw The Comet is Coming here in Oct 2022. Incredible gig! The acoustics at the El Rey are awesome.
Intimate music venue with a mezzanine and side elevated platforms. Most recently came here to watch Hunny perform, and really enjoyed the show. The security line was short since we arrived pretty late, and you just have to go through metal detectors and scan your tickets (we used the axs app) at the door. Bathrooms are to the immediate right, and it was a very long line for the ladies room. Unfortunately there’s only one bathroom (3 stalls), but on the other hand, there’s two bars (one on the bottom and one upstairs). There’s some tables with chairs to sit in the lounge plus some along the edge of the second level if you don’t want to be down in the pit. Otherwise, for shorter people (like myself) the sides (there’s little steps that you’ll have to take up) provide an elevated view where you’re still on the ground, but might be able to see a bit better.
Parking is a miserable situation. You can pay for valet and there’s various lots around. We got lucky and found parking in Wilshire that was free after 8pm, but most of the neighborhoods around are permit-parking. La Brea has some metered spots too, but those were all taken when we looked.
The people who work here are standoffish and not that friendly. Note that they don’t sell advance tickets for other shows, and only sell shows in-person for the show that’s playing that very night. The website hadn’t worded it clearly enough, so I was confused about that until I asked (unfortunately Eve 6 was sold out online so I was hoping to see if they had some in-stock at the box office while I was there).
I saw BLS here. All I can say is amazing!!! The venue had a killer sound system and the crowd was wild and crazy. I'll be back El Rey!
Loved this venue. Went to see Kane Brown and was right up front. No matter where you were in this place it felt like a front row location.
Great venue for smaller artists in an intimate setting. Acoustics were great and the lighting ability was fantastic. The sounds, lights and atmosphere made for a great experience, however the drinks were weak, beer was flat and tasted like water, and they were really overpriced. ($8 for a small redbull). Def pregame beforehand if you don't want to get ripped off. Also the parking situation is inconsistent. The structure is forced $20 valet but they refuse to inform you about the $10 valet right in front of the theatre.
Great venue with history. Good acoustics.ove the concert there
My family and I came down to LA from the central valley, Newman, Ca to watch a live podcast that my son Chris is a huge fan of.....Had a great time at the no jumper live podcast. Love how the theater was set up, we had great seats. Loved how the bar area was inside the theater area. If no jumper has another live podcast done there again in the future me and my family will definitely be going!!
My goodness... This place is intimate, the lighting is perfect 👌🏾, and the staff was so warm and welcoming. I love the vintage vibe of this theater- it was so beautiful! I was highly impressed with this venue...I saw Alice Smith here and she was absolutely lovely as always ... I will definitely be coming here again for concerts in the future ...
Intimate venue to catch a concert and the lights bouncing off of the chandeliers is amazing! Great bar service and there’s snacks in the bathrooms.
I love seeing shows at this venue. It's a good sized space with a great stage. The staff is always friendly and hospitable.
One of my fave old LA venues. Some great act come through here. Only complaint is the sound can be heavy-handed with bass being too high in the mix causing mid range (and vocals) to get lost in the rumble. But good vibes make up for the sound issues.
The El Rey is always amazing, absolutely beautiful, and Vic is the BEST security guard there hands down. If you're in his section he will take great pride in keeping everyone safe, yet allowing you to still have a wonderful time! This was the first time we had an opportunity to meet him, and he truly is a breath of fresh air! Can't wait to go back!
friendly staff, nice location, but they don't offer tap water, only bottles for $5 a pop. I could be mistaken, but I thought places had to give out at least water on tap
I have really enjoyed the few times I have been to the El Rey. It is a small standing room only music venue. One negative or way to enjoy the music better is to avoid standing at the back of the room, behind the sound equipment is pretty bad. You really need to move up toward the front of the room for best music listening. They have valet parking that wasn’t too expensive ($7-10 I believe) and relatively quick after the show.
I saw Daisy's last show ever there and it was amazing. Very cool place
Great little venue with a classic feel and a good layout. They drop the pit a few feet down, and have good standing room on the sides so it’s optimal viewing for everyone.
Saw Leif Vollebekk here in 2022 and he sounded great!
Not too big but lively place. Support live music!
I went to go see the Fiery Furnaces here a couple weeks back, and it was great! The sound is really good, nice and loud and crisp also. The bar was pretty pricey, but that is normal for an LA venue, just wish they had some shots! Lol. Great for local shows, and felt safe because of Vaccine proof.
Great venue! Great drinks and even has a Photo Booth!
This is one of LA's best venues. It was recently remodeled a few years ago, but they preserved the theater's original look. (Yes, those are glass chandeliers.) It's a good size, the sound is usually top notch, the staff is generally cheery (hey everyone has a bad day, yeah?), and inside it is welcoming and isn't intimidating. There's a smoking area, and the drinks - cost as much as you think they would at a concert venue. It's reasonable, but not cheap.
I am short, so having a good view of the stage is important to me and there's really not a bad spot in the house. I usually even stand towards the back!
DO NOT bring gum in. It is not allowed. I have probably spent the cost of 5 concert tickets in packs of gum that I've had to throw away because I absentmindedly brought those in.
Lastly, if you want to see a show, buy a ticket before hand. Though it might not state "SOLD OUT" the morning of the show, chances are if it's a hot ticket, it will sell out by the time the first band goes on. Don't sit on it!
*Hollywood note: In the Corey Haim/Corey Feldman movie "License To Drive" the El Rey was their destination before grandpa's car gets towed.
Great venue for concerts! Security and staff are great, they even passed out waters during the concert.
Great intimate venue for Harry Hudson concert, bar had tons of options, elevated stage so you can see from anywhere!
It's been some time since we've attended a show there and this was an unexpected pleasure! Pleasant staff and actual seating! Very enjoyable! Would come back for a show again.
AMAZING venue with great views from wherever you are standing. Staff is usually friendly, bartenders are fast, and restrooms are clean. Parking is a NIGHTMARE, arrive early.
The venue is small making it great for being up close to the artist you are seeing! They do have some steps on the side which is good for short people like me to see over the crowd!
Excellent location . Great to have a connected restaurant where you can go in and out of the venue. Lots of bars. Great set up. A bit small and the staff is very uninformed regarding access and areas available to the patrons.
Very cute venue. Great bar and staff.
Loved it! Small and intimate making for an up close and personal experience.
Not sure if it was my particular experience, but the acoustics and the lighting wasn't the best. It's a really nice theatre though.
Beautiful, cozy, clean, and welcoming. The security and staff were really thorough and professional. Great place for a first time concert ✌️
Sick place to catch a show. It was my first time there and I got to take photos of the Hu and The Haunt..
I love the El Rey Theatre because it was the best music venue in Los Angeles
Seen a couple artists here for sold out shows , most recently Cannons . Nice little venue , you'll get to see your favorite bands up close . Get here early to get a good spot .
Cozy little venue with nearby parking. Has a bar and does age check on entry. Be sure to have covid cards and IDs ready. Any kids will need school ID as well to match their covid card to. Moderately crowded but not overly so. Seating is almost entirely standing room so be sure to call ahead if you need a seat and they will have one ready for you in a reserved area. Show was great and had a great time.
Nice theater for a rock show. Saw the Darkness and it was awesome. Good sound and plenty of room. The bartenders were super fast which is always a plus.
Seating on floor was fine...a little close but spacing out would have definitely resulted in people adjusting rows to get closer to the stage. Air conditioned but audience had to request it be turned on before used. Great sound quality. Didn't use restroom. Had bar but didn't partake in beverages...to avoid removing mask. Security matched ID to vaccination verification for COVID safety. Many patrons removing masks while inside to talk and sing, since "everyone was vaccinated". Smh. Security could only do so much.
Great concert venue/former movie theater. Not a huge place so you're just about guaranteed to have a good view of the band anywhere. No parking on-site so there's a garage just a block east or you can chance street parking. Watch the meters.
Came here to see Anson Seabra for the third time and Em Beihold opened. My wife didn't know Em Beihold was opening and loves her..she was so estatic and almost teared.
Had a wonderful night and their music is so good. Anson is such a friendly person as well and is so kind and thoughtful to his fans!
El Rey had an interesting layout and it made it easy to watch from various locations. Seemed a lot more organized than other places I've been to.
Awesome....Hasn't change very nice
I like when they have events
Cute old school theater perfect for small venue up close and personal with artists
Awesome small venue. I just wish the booth for merchandise was handled better. They check your ID and Vaccination cards b4 the door so have them ready.
Small, intimate vibe, great atmosphere. Can easily soak in the band's to the fullest potential due to the close proximity. 😎💖 …
I've been here twice and both times, I had a great time! The bands I saw put on a spectacular show and that was only made better by the awesome sound system/sound guy and great lighting guy/rig that they had. The past few hours spent were amazing there. The drinks were super delicious (also a little bit pricey) but they had a great selection. Pabst and Jack Daniel's were really good. The restrooms were surprisingly clean as well. Parking was pretty good as long as you arrive early, there are lots a couple blocks down that will valet your car for $10. Definitely a great deal there. I will definitely be coming back if I have another favorite band playing there!
Classic interior, great views from elevated sides. Sound was excellent.
This theater was so beautiful and was the perfect place for a concert. I went to the role model concert on the 13th and the concert itself was so amazing, but the staff at the el rey theater we’re the real stars of the show. They went out of their ways to make sure everyone was comfortable and safe. One of the venues employees, Fernando was the most kind and genuine person I met and made me and my friends experience one that’ll we’ll never forget. He was constantly making sure everyone was safe in the crowd and was super friendly as well as attentive at all times. Employees like Fernando make this venue one of the best in los angles!! Props to Fernando and the entire staff at the el rey theater, you guys rock!!
Nice, intimate venue! Be forewarned they won't let you bring gum inside, even if the package is sealed.
Concert was great due to the size. Performer was in contact with audience making it very intimate.
Great venue for shows as good sight lines and acoustics. Wish they carried better, local independent beer.
Fun little venue. Attended Zoe church here. Great atmosphere, great church.
Pros. Cool venue for intimate concerts. Food places around. Nice staff.
Cons. Bathroom line for the one restroom each for women & men. Parking is challenging.
Excellent venue with that vintage LA flavor. Acoustics were great. Super friendly staff and great service all around. Love this spot
I love this venue! I've seen three concerts here and I love the atmosphere. There is seating on the sides of the venues for some shows and if you call in advance you can book a table to yourself. Service is sufficient enough to not be critiqued. The manager is very nice, however.
My first time seeing a concert here. It's become one of my favorite venues! It's got a cool vibe. It's small and had a great view of the stage and probably could have gotten even closer! Drinks are pricey but that's to be expected. Hope to see more of my favorite artists playing there in the future.
I love the atmosphere here, but it is truly for artist/musician fanatics. If you are going to see an artist you like or are being introduced to, it may not be the right venue for you. The acoustics aren’t that great. However, if you know all the words and want to be heard when you sing along, this is for you and that artist you so adore. I had the pleasure of attending a few concerts here and I would recommend it.
This was my first time at the El Rey and it was kinda cool! Small intimate theater with standing room only seating, unless you pay extra for tables on the 2nd floor! They have quite a few bars for a spot so intimate! The Bartenders make great drinks! I will definitely visit again!
One of the coolest places to see a show in Los Angeles with friendly staff and art deco beauty.
Polite and friendly staff. They are not understaffed like some others. All ages, which is a plus for teens learning about the music scene. Clean, large, great sound.
Great venue, not a bad seat in the house. All the staff was pleasant to deal with.
Beautiful venue with decent parking and friendly, organized staff. Everyone follows covid guidelines and does their best to keep things running smooth.
It's pretty cool place, the acustic is really good and I've enjoyed all the gigs I've seen in here.
I always enjoy photographing shows at this venue. The building is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is always professional and friendly
Excellent venue to see shows. Cool interior and lobby as well.
Great medium sized venue, much like the Fonda. There are tables and raised areas along the sides if you want to be above the crowd. Balcony is vip only. Keep in mind if you do the valet parking, you'll be waiting a while for the guy to be ready to serve you after the concert is over. It also gets fairly warm inside
It’s a really beautiful and intimate venue. It’s off the beaten path, which I like because of parking. The only thing I don’t like is that they have very limited bathrooms which causes the women’s line to become insanely long.
Nice place. It has an old-fashioned design and vibe going on.
Was at a concert here last night and had a really good time . The space wasn't that big so even if you were standing in the back you got to see the performer pretty well. Also there were steps between the area in front of the stage and the rest so you get a good view if you are stuck behind someone tall
I love intimate venues and this is about as intimate as you can get. There's a cool little pit section and no barrier between the stage and the crowd, so you can actually climb up if you're feeling brave (security will come and escort you off the stage promptly, however). There's an upper section with seating and tables as well, but I didn't venture up to take a close look. Bathrooms were fairly nice with an attendant. Ended up parking just a few blocks away near Ralph's at a metered spot (they don't enforce after hours) for free.
The lighting is fabulous for the on-stage performance. The decor is beautiful and quaint with lovely large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling over the audience. The bathrooms are very well maintained and secured with bathroom attendants. And the security guards are very attentive and on top of their game. The only thing that I found lacking is the sound quality: the music was SO LOUD that the sounds were just distorted altogether and I couldn't hear the vocals clearly within the mess. However, that could be on account of the individuals performing and possibly THEIR sound tech employees, if they provide them theirselves. Other than that, it's a very pleasant place to visit and perform at.👀👍
As far as a venue goes this place is top notch. There's a lot of flair here in the decor of the bathrooms all the way to the shape of the area where the seating is. I've mainly been here a few times for charity events so the regular seating arrangements weren't in place. I think something that needs to be added here is when I go to a concert venue sound is important. This is a venue where the sound quality is pretty good, the lighting is good, and overall you get a good performance. I caught the end of Capital Cities when they were in LA recently and the trumpet playing here was very clear and everything seemed to bring you into the performance itself. So this place is definitely recommended and in my top 20 venues for concerts in Los Angeles. Check it out for yourself and see if you agree.
Concert was great
Went to see Adam Conover. Parking was easy. We used the valet which was $10. Starts 1 hour before show time. There are also a couple of parking structures around the corner. Security was fast and the venue itself is pretty small compared to other theaters. It hold 770 people. They do have a couple to bars which never got too crowded which was a great thing.
Really good ADA services and the sound system was fantastic. My only complaint is with the layout of the floor. It was very awkward. There was an upper part and then a lower part with two tiny steps. Seems like a major tripping hazard at a rock show. And the staff kept hounding people to stand inside the invisible blue lines. Either light up the line or let people stand where they want. It can't be a fire code thing because I have never seen that before and I've been to dozens of shows. Just get a normal (1 level) floor and let people stand where they want! Rant over.
Amazing atmosphere! It has an old town LA vibe with a sizeable stage which gives the feeling of intimacy while still making the show feel big.
There's a bar, a merch stand, and plenty of space. It didn't take long to get in and the show was a great time. I'm looking forward to seeing more artists here.
I have to say everything went pretty smoothly. The security guards the ticket process and the floors are clean prior to the end of the venue there were two bars for those that drink and the security guards were not too pushy when it came to keeping aisles clear which everybody hates
First of all there's valet parking right on front for ten bucks. Cocktails are also ten bucks and aren't super weak. It's a good amount of space and you can sit up stairs or see pretty well around the perimeter. I'd come back the next time someone I want to see is here.
I love the intimate atmosphere of this place. A lot of other local venues, dazzling as they may be, can blend together a bit in the memory but this one definitely stands out for its set-up. Not to mention that the sound is bangin, and the staff are actually friendly and don't seem to hate their jobs! Great spot.
Great staff and very clean venue. Love it!
The venue has a huge open space, so although its packed you will not sweat ! Drinks were nice and strong and the price I paid for my ticket was super reasonable! I had a great night watch Eric Bellinger, Jon B. And Wale perform!
One of my favorite venues to see a show.
One of the best Venue in LA you wanna your entertainers to book the shows..✨✨✨
Cool medium sized GA venue
Great small concert venue. Very personal, and still has that classic feel in some ways
This super cozy theater is a great place to see shows! Max capacity is in the 700s to give you a sense of the space size. Parking can be a challenge here, however there are several parking lots near by. I suggest you map them out before you arrive if you're not familiar with the area. There is security when you go in, so prepare to empty your pockets. There are two bars on the first floor, right when you walk in and again when you go into the main room. The main room has a sunken floor, as well as raised areas to both sides of it. Both areas provide fine viewing of the stage. There is an upstairs as well, much smaller, that has small tables and chairs. If you're looking for an intimate concert - El Rey is the place to go!
Grandson was awesome. The staff at the El Rey were awesome. Maintained crowds and deserve compliments. So Thank you
Clean and amazing experience!! Several open Bars, beer on tap, easy in and out
The El Rey Theatre is a small, intimate venue for concerts, and is a welcoming place for watching your favorite band. I saw The Cat Empire there, and the space is great for die hard fans to get involved in the experience. Did not have any drinks but they seemed to have a good selection at the bar.
Venue was great! No issues everything was good. Only issue was the Womens restroom!!! Felt bad for the ladies that had to wait a long time!
For the Ninja Sex Party concert. I was so happy that even with the sweaty bodies, I could still feel the all conditioning trying to work its magic
I've seen a few shows here including Marion Hill, Lemaitre, and Private Island. It's standing room in the middle and private booths on the edge for these type of concerts
Vibe/What to wear:
El Rey is a nicer venue in good shape with an open layout and red carpeting in lots of places. The vibe depends on the band, but people will wear everything from jeans and a t-shirt and jacket or boots to casual club dresses with chunky heels. "Upscale hipster" environment
Tips:
- Standing on the stairs along the side helps to give a better view if you're not right at the front or if you're a bit shorter than your friends.
- Water cups are $1 with free refills so get one for the group (so long as you're all healthy) and stay hydrated!
I saw Klingande here in September. We got there pretty close to when the show was supposed to start but were still able to get through the line, get drinks, and get spots pretty close to the front of the stage with plenty of time before they actually came on. It’s a pretty small venue so there’s not really a bad spot in the place. There’s areas to the left and right of the stage that are slightly elevated and booths against the walls as well. Security seemed to be moving through the crowd to stop smokers but I didn’t see if they kicked anyone out.
Enjoyed this venue very much. We saw the Victor Wooten Trio on a Thursday evening. The parking structure for El Rey (located on Cochran) is $15 and valet is $10. Found some free street parking. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants to visit before seeing a show. Great sound and good view from anywhere in the venue.
The sound was great, the sightlines were good, the staff was lovely. The temperature was freezing, which has never been my experience in an LA venue before. I'm bringing an extra sweatshirt next time.
This space is intimate, but manages to not feel cramped and sweaty. There is a pricey, but tasty taco joint attached to the theatre. They offer dessert, entrees and beverages. The staff is friendly in contrast to the indifferent and cold staff at most venues.
The venue doesn't really seem set up like a concert venue. I didn't have a bad experience, it was just odd to stand on steps and move for security every two seconds. They were polite and friendly, though.
One of my favorite LA music venues. Free street parking or valet and small intimate venue. The little taco spot connected is good and the interior red carpet and chandeliers elevate the shows here to be a little more classy in feel. Sound can get loud tho!
Saw Dance Gavin Dance on may 11th and the venue space seems small but it fit a sold out crowed very nice and has great AC. beer at $14 for a large beer or 8 for the small so i was able to afford only one and a $3 can of coke. If you are able to go to the attached restaurant on the side go there its a bit cheaper for the soda
Looks great. Sounds great. Not oversold. Good sightlines. Great acts.
Very intimate space but for some damn reason the AC wasn't kicked on so it just smelled like ass
One of my favorite venues for a show. Be ready to stand though as there are only a few chairs on the sides. Loads of great shows pass through here continuously. Check the calendar frequently as they are always adding new shows.
Came here to see Bag Raiders and I loved the venue. The setting is intimate and you can be up in the front dance floor or off to the side or on the balcony if you want to be low key. I'd definitely come back to see another show.
The stage is big enough to suffice a good show. I saw Skizzy Mars here. It was a good show. It's General admission so if you're there early you can get to the front. It's clean and a good atmosphere. Good for creating memories.
Great venue, saw Dorian Electra here and was surprised by the quality of the sound as well as ventilation.
Classic old Hollywood venue with decent acoustics, two bars and table seating on both sides of the room. Nearby parking and restaurant options make it easy to make it a one stop destination for a night of good food and live entertainment.
Fairly small venue, loved the old building.
I like this venue. I came here to see Har Mar Superstar, The Pizza Underground, Lizzo and a few other artists in one night and boy was it fun! The place is pretty roomy and the stage is a great size which I think makes the bands look better. You can still see the band from behind the little sub stage so you can see as well as the sides which are little pockets of standing room. Box office tickets are cheaper than online but you have that risk of the show selling out. The service is good and the bar serves good variety for good prices. There's also a little joint diner in case you get hungry or are not interested in some acts.
Great venue. Very intimate. So glad I got to see a show here.
I've never had a bad experience at this theater. It's always so great and the people working or always so nice. The main room has a really nice sound system so you always get a crisp sound.
Great smaller venue! Loved it.
Amazing the only thing it's a little small
I saw They Might be Giants here. Interesting layout. There's a small pit in the center and areas for people to stand on the side. Great show. Great venue. Would love to see more concerts there.
Amazing venue,concert too
Just saw the fix, great show awesome venue, old school.
Valet parking around the corner was $15. Misters used for cooling also create that smoky atmosphere. Saw KT Tunstall. Great concert, she even does a little comedic presentation.
Nice, small venue. Art deco decor. Huge chandeliers. Clean bathroom. I saw the worst show ever there but I had a great time! Thank you Dana!
D.R.A.M. WAS AMAZING TONIGHT!!! I didn't really care for the opening acts and thought there were too many, but i was blown away by D.R.A.M.'s talent, the boy's got vocals, his band was killin' it(!) He was hype as f*** plus He was presented with a 4x platinum record plaque from his label! Such a great night! 😍😍😍 …
Great little venue. Nothing better than a sweaty, rockin' place and this place fits the bill perfectly. Saw Candlebox here, great show - even the support acts.
One of favorite spots to see a show Los Angeles. Small Venue, Good Sound and reasonable bar prices.
My friend invited me to attend Xavier Rudd's concert at El Rey for my birthday. It was a fantastic, enjoyable, and fun experience. The sound and lighting were incredible.
Cool venue on Wilshire near la brea. Just saw an excellent Hot Tuna show. Beer selection is modest with Goose Island being the best pick. Friends d.c. ly staff, seats were ok. Enjoyed the venue
Classic los angeles theater that is now a music venue. Sound is almost always good. COMPARE DRINK PRICES - SOMETIMES ARE LESS AT THE LOBBY BAR THAN INSIDE. Bathrooms are generally pretty clean.
Really big venue with only floor. A balcony has tables for seating which is open to public no VIP needed.
Personal merch set up for bands and side barriers for those who like to spectate from a distance
Topline: Great venue, easy to move around and get to the front. But why the hell is there a bar right as you walk in? You could put it literally anywhere else and that would be better.
I go to my fair share of shows and festivals and there is a lot of great things to say about the El Rey. The crow there is usually pretty good. Not pushy or aggressive, everyone just wants to have a good time. We came late and managed to make our way to the front really easily. Drinks are pricey but that is pretty standard across all the bars/concert venues in LA.
Follow them on Twitter to figure out when acts come on.
One of the better small venues in LA. You can show up closer to the opening act and still sneak closer to the front from around the sides and if you’re hungry the tacos they serve in the connected restaurant are fine.
Saw JMSN there great venue, Great concert. The time I went the credit card machine wasnt working at the bar. Probably doesn't happen too often but I would bring cash just in case.
One of my favorite venues in LA. No hollywood messy-ness, easy drive, easy parking, lots of room, great talent and decent drinks. I check the website often for shows because I love the venue so much. If a friend is in town or we are looking for birthday celebration ideas, I always check El Rey first.
Great show, nice venue & clean bathrooms! The staff & security do an excellent job & were on top of everything before it could get out of hand & everything ran on time! What more can you ask!
Very nice venue, very small but not to the point were you feel like a sardine. Would love to see another band there in the near future.
I saw Wallows here a few weeks ago. My first time here. It was a great show, nice environment. Stage was easy to see no matter where I stood. I had a very nice time.
Great old movie theater now a awesome concert venue. Very nice, great local staff. Sound is right on. Check it out in the movie "Night of the Comet" to see this place before it was refurbished
Nice little concert venue on a main Street. No parking lot, but street parking was available and that was even better. Only 1 bar and very small merch area the.
This is one of the best venues in Los Angeles. Way better than the Wiltern.
This is a great place for a concert. Clean and the employees were very nice
One of the most beautiful venues I've ever been to. Great sound system.
The El Rey is a classic (but nice) venue for Standing Room Only concerts and events. It's in a nice area with lots of nice restaurants around to make an evening out of a concert night.
Faith Forward Future : Pastor Chad Veach • Zoe Church LA - Book Release #FFF
Went here for a Wondaland arts society show including Jidenna. Great show. Theater is nice with a vintage style. Climate Controlled. Drinks too high tho.
Really cool spot. Jessie Reyez concert the was a dream. Restrooms were alright, female Asian bartender looked absolutely miserable and not friendly at all.
Great venue and good time with The Fixx
I really enjoyed the facilities despite drinks costing $24 each
Great sound and choice of multiple eateries adjoining the venue. There is even limited parking in the back if you get there early enough....
Great bar and usher staff!!
Nice venue, though the table set up looks cheap and unorganized, people who reserve tables did it to be able to sit down and enjoy the performance, had a ton of people standing in front of the reserve tables which in my opinion is the venues poor choice for table layout...also had a conflict with our online tickets scanning, the lady scanning was very dismissive and sent us away to front (a bit rude) , but the box office lady was very nice and helpful of our situation.
Limited seating, but a pretty decent venue for small events.
One of my favorite venues in the city. It's the perfect place to see top acts and up and coming artists.
Nice venue. Good sounding concerts.
Cool
The space is intimate and elegant. I came here for Klingande last week and the crowd was completely normal and very pleasant for the most part, which is always nice but sometimes rare.
Great venue to see bands. No bad spot to sit or stand to see everything. Great sounds too!
Saw a nice concert here. Only thing I didn't like is there are no seats on the lower level and it's standing only.
Nice venue, not spectacular but nothing to complain about.
One of my fav places to see a show in LA. Classic architecture and design; nice little diner out front and wonderfully clean. Lots of room to get your groove on.
Great theater. Not a bad seat in the house
Beautiful venue, great show!
One of my favorite venues in town. There's always a good view. It sounds great... Cool old style LA architecture.
A bit confusing on the way lines are set up, plus no one is out in the box office until 30 minutes before the show starts, BUT good atmosphere and amazing shows held there
Spacious entertainment hall. We can't say enough about this amazing place!!!
Iconic live music venue, audience layout is a bit weird and security kind aggro but overall pretty positive experiences.
This a great venue for intimate concerts. Great line of sight as the main floor level is lower than the side.
What a great venue. The decor it's nice and you can see the stage from everywhere.
Cool place to see live music. Drinks are a bit pricey but they have a full bar,so that's good
nice small venue. $10 valet parking in front is cheaper than parking down the street. the lighting tech, however, sucks. :(
It was my first time to be at El Rey Theater. Nothing to complain. It was a well-organized event. I will most likely go back there. :)
Had a fun night with friends-just wish we didn't have to wait thru 4 bands before the headliner.
El Rey Theatre is so beautiful and I love it! I wish they'd turn up their AC though. I was just standing and I was sweating.
Just saw G&E man it was so sick I love el Rey always super intimate and fun.
Awesome show with Des Rocs and Glorious Sons! Good venue, cozy but relaxed.
Great decor and atmosphere. Good place to see a show, but the sound could be better.
Great place to see live music! No seats, but everywhere has a good view of the stage.
Always had fun here, but it's not my favorite venue for seeing bands.
General admission was standing the entire concert. Good acoustics, vintage interior, audience was very diverse.
Beautiful venue with a historic twist. Open dance floor, great audio for bands and friendly staff.
Place was clean and staff was very helpful. No issues from this venue at all and the show was great. Went here for LUCA LUSH!
Great place for a show. The sound was amazing. Friendly staff. Clean and well kept.
it's quite a small venue, which really made the whole experience (concert) close. it was so cool being close to the stage
I love this venue! Small and easy to see, great sound, good drinks.
Small venue, where ever you stand, pretty much is a good seat 😊 clean restrooms, which is important, at least to me 😀 …
The parking is not close by its really a pain in the butt. The venue itself is small and is a good place to go it's just the parking is a problem
Plenty of seating, great sound quality
Had a great time. Good place to see a show, and I've been to a lot of venues.
Amazing venue!
Great sound, every band killed it! Voivod are legends and probably had the best sound mix.
Beautiful, intimate venue for rock & pop music, as well as stand-up comedy! Love the Art Deco architecture.
There are not enough seats you should sit on the ground!
Very red and many chandelier
Nice venue with great sound. Valet parking cheaper than parking lots. Reasonably priced drinks.
Spacious venue that accommodates large, well-known acts as well as smaller local groups. Very good sound.
Nice smallish concert venue. I've only been once, but will definitely go back.
Gorgeous intimate venue with the ability to get up close and personal with the artists who perform. Great acoustics
Never been for a concert but my church meets here. Nice size theatre, clean, diner attached.
Great venue! Way too long of an intermission in between sets...going on 45 minutes and still waiting!
great concert my wife loved it
This is by far my favorite place to see a concert. Such an intimate hall, great sound, and lovely staff.
Great little venue. Always have a great time here. Very pretty as a building as well.
It's one of my favorite venues for concerts. The environment feels very intimate.
Great venue. Not to large so you get a great view of bands playing
It always sounds kinda funny in there. But it’s a nice intimate venue that often has greats acts!
This place is really dope, I like the architecture inside.
Nice venue, not enough variety for mixed drinks. Standing room only here
Not a bad spot in the place. Good view from floor. Good music. Bar $$. Old school feel, priceless.
Amazing beautiful small venue! $10 valet parking out front
Only reason they get a third star is because they serve water cups. Beautitul place but made my concert experience really stressful.
Had a great time saw Mozzy drinks were alright cool up close and personal venue
Hard not to have a good spot to see the stage in this venue. Good staff as well.
Intimate venue. Lots of room for everyone to see in the hall. No bad spot for short or tall people.
Historic concert, great acoustics
I love the El Rey Theatre! Small, good vibes, great sound and always a good line-up of artists.
Nice old venue but super expensive and not great sound control. We had move back in the room not to hurt our ears.
Amazing Conor Maynard performance!!!!!!
Nice place to go see bands. The bar is really small and zero seats on the first floor.
Awesome venue, great drinks and amazing acoustics. Plenty of parking near by.
Small venue but you can still get a great view any where around the venue
Great show great old school theater
Nice bathrooms and a slightly elevated level so short people can see the stage.
Nice place but the show I went to was the best Fyke, James, and Kevin! I will go back for another show!

I never been inside the el Rey theatre but it's always crowdy and full of people that enjoy their life it's nice place to go
Intimate theater, great sound quality
Venue is okay, but parking is HORRIBLE. Parking structure I thought was available had a sign saying "No El Rey Parking". Street parking full or restricted. Ended up paying $24 at lot across from Ralph's.
Awesome cozy fun venue. Great atmosphere drinks and staff.
Loved this venue! Very beautiful! Cozy would definitely come again!
Great little venue, very intimate. The drink prices are high, but that's to be expected.
Amazing crew! It was s real pleasure playing two nights at this venue!
Amazing staff! Thank you to Renee, Marcello, Raven, Jocelyn, and more! Was here for Fyke x Kevin x Amber x James Lee
Easy access to parking nearby, organized & efficient getting everyone in before the show, comfortable inside.

The sound alone is enough reason to see a show here! The best small venue I've been to in la..
Classic venue, worth seeing some of your favorite bands in El Rey.
Nice spot to see your favorite artist up close
Love the architecture. Nice floor employees. Like the resturant. Did not like the bar patrons.
