Reviews of Running Hare Vineyard
We were visiting the area from out of town (northern Vermont) and we thought we would check out a local winery. Wow. Did this place not disappoint. Live music ($5 cover) with a beer garden and wine tasting available. We chatted with the two bartenders on shift and they were extremely personable. They made a feel welcome and that made the experience even better. Thank you so much for the great service and we will be back when visiting the area again!
Great beers, nice warm fire on a chilly night, great wine selection too! Had a lot of fun with friends at their rehearsal and then their wedding there the next day 🤩🥂 It was such a gorgeous wedding venue, I wish I could have gotten married there 15 years ago ❤ …
Visited during their Oktoberfest weekend. There was a large crowd but plenty of room to spread out in this nice setting. Food trucks were good, wine and beer selection was good for our crowd as well. Need to work on the bathroom situation though for this type of crowd. Nice day beautiful place and staff was very helpful and nice
We attended the comedy show and we had a great time! It's a beautiful venue and the comedians were great. I tried to buy tickets for the next comedy show and it is already sold out. They offered wines, beers and wood fire pizza. It's a cool place to visit anytime of the year.
Umbrellas were amazing. Loved the lights underneath. Everyone we talked to was super nice, especially the lady checking IDs at the front! Unfortunately the wine was some of the worst stuff I’ve ever put in my mouth… and it’s a vineyard. Also, I think they were short staffed, cause the food truck took 2 hours and was disappointing. The kids working the truck were super nice (as everyone was) and they were so apologetic, so we weren’t mad. It definitely wasn’t their fault. Beer was pretty good! Will give this place another try, I think it might have been a bad night.
Such a cool vibe! I always get the wine slushies! I appreciate that there is food on site as well, I like the brick oven pizzas. Live music, family friendly and a chill environment. You may want to bring your own lawn chairs. There is a large weekend crowd and seats fill up.
The vineyard was quite an experience the tour and was very nice would definitely recommend it.
Great place for the kids to run around while the parents drink and listen to the band. The blood orange wine slushy was really good and hit the spot, but a little pricey at $12.98 for the small. We had a pizza, which was bland and skimpy on the toppings. The tacos were not much better, rather bland. Food was mediocre and expensive, but the drinks were okish.
Enjoyable atmosphere with pleasant vistas of the vineyards. Excellent venue for private or corporate functions. Everyday goodness at the outdoor beergarten and vino bar. Nice afternoon chill space. Family friendly. Outdoor pizza oven....
This place could be exceptional, there's so much potential here! Gorgeous setting, friendly staff, and good food options. What's holding it back is the wine itself and the bathrooms. Full to overflowing portapotties as only sanitary facilities, and wine that's so bad it's an insult to the glass used to make the bottles. Everything except the blends are undrinkable, which is an embarrassing state of affairs for a self-proclaimed winery charging top end prices for small pours of sub-box-quality wine
Giving this venue 3 stars for the variety of food and drinks, as well as ample seating availability.
Taking away two stars due to my interaction with the general manager, Cheryl. I visited Running Hare this past weekend with a friend. After paying the cover charge ($5), purchasing a wine flight ($25) and food from one of their stands, we sat down to catch up. Over the duration of 20 minutes or so, wasps had landed and were stuck in 2 of my 4 wine glasses. I went back to the wine stand to ask if they could replace them. It was there that I met Cheryl, who instructed that I just needed to “scoop them out”. Cheryl went on to state that it was an outdoor venue, and that she couldn’t replace every drink with bugs in them.
I want to pause here to note that this is not the first wine venue I’ve visited. In fact, I’ve had wonderful (insect -free) experiences at Big Cork, Linganore, Black Ankle, and Elk Run (all beautiful outdoor vineyards in Maryland if you’re looking for recommendations 😊).
After a brief exchange with Ms. Cheryl, I was eventually graced with replacement glasses for the two contaminated wines. Long story short, I have zero interest in returning to this venue, and will not be recommending it to family or friends.
We really enjoyed our time at Running Hare Winery!! The slushies were fantastic and the craft beers were very tasty. The whole winery with the different seating areas was beautiful. We came for a girls night out and we will definitely go back for other events.
Nice place, with lots of outdoor seating and the best part: wine slushees! It will be nice when they offer kids (non-alcoholic slushes); especially for days like today when it feels like 102 degrees.
PS- Next time, I’ll stay for the food trucks!
Always a great time. If you haven't been to an event, please try to attend. Outdoor beauty! Drive-in movies, concerts, beer garden, wine slushies, farmer's market, and awesome fireworks. Come check it out!
A little pricey but not like ur going to go there everyday right? We were able to walk through the vineyard and take pics. Beautiful scenery and they play 80s music while we were there. They are having fireworks and other events this weekend for the 4th. The mixed peach/mango, and sangria slushies were pretty darn good!
Nestled in the gentle hills of Southern Maryland, this vineyard offers a relaxing atmosphere to sample wines and beers. The wines, even when labled as 'dry', remain fruity and on the sweet (Maryland style) side. The beer offerings are from local microbreweries in the vicinity. On weekends, there are the additional offerings of food, live music, and even a film after sunset. The chorizo tacos were delicious. Shady seating below the canopy of trees are a welcome relief to the mid-summer heat. Come for a tasting or stay into the evening...
Not too many wines with grapes grown on their own property. The grounds are great though with covered bars. A wine bar, beer bar, pizza bar, music stage and lots of outdoor seating. Many areas for events and weddings and lots of parking.
My girlfriend and I visited this location because we had a Groupon for the Calvert Brewing Company. Before going to any place like this, you'd be doing your wallet a favor by checking Groupon to see if anything is available. We tried eight different beers while there and ended up leaving with a case and one growler. Some of the beers have serving limits, and not every beer that you taste is available in 6-packs or cases. If your car is really low to the ground, beware the road in, which is especially rough in some places. The road is only about 1½ lanes wide at spots, and traffic flows in both directions. Atmosphere was good, but I wish some music had been playing while we were there. Last tip: bring your own food or cash, because the pizza place only accepts that form of payment.
Enjoyed my drive to this beautiful place. My husband and I loved the signs on the sides of the road as we drive up the driveway, however it would be awesome to see more of them. We are sorry to hear about the fire but our visit was really nice. The young lady who did our tasting was so nice and knowledgeable. Only disappointment was that I had to taste from plastic cups. As you know plastic interferes with the aroma and the flavor of the wine. We still left with several bottles.
Low key obsessed with this place! It's absolutely beautiful and has so much to offer. We went on a Saturday night when they had a band playing which was so much fun!! They had food available to purchase but you are allowed to bring in your own food and they had so many options to drink. Their wine of course was available, wine slushies, and local beers! Definitely recommend visiting.
Would have been a straight up 5 stars had it not been for the detour up a heavily cratered dirt road due to a wedding event. Was on a motorcycle with a passenger and did not expect such a horrible surface to ride on. Outside of that a great time with great entertainment and service.
Been going there for years. Went yesterday and did 3 flights with family. Bought 7 bottles of wine and found out after leaving that the same 7 bottles bought online from there was $15 cheaper. And was told that we could not buy Malbec, our favorite over the years, unless we joined the VIP club but again, I could order it online with no problem. Figured spending almost $400 in person was worth more. Think I'll head to Leesburg next time.
Hot pizza, nice view, great conversation, prefect local 🍷 wine… We had lots of fun.. Thank you. …
Spent a picture perfect afternoon here tasting wines and listening to live music. Definitely dog friendly and couldn’t be more picturesque. The woman who served us the tasting was friendly and very knowledgeable about the winery and the wines. The Groupon made it quite affordable, but as there is spotty cell service there, it’s better to take a screenshot of the Groupon than trying to pull it up on your phone while you’re paying. Only negative was that you couldn’t take a flight of beer out of the little area where beer sales were.
Would be perfect if they had real bathrooms and not just portable toilets. But wine, wine slushees, pizza, live music, and ambience were all great.
A lovely picturesque vineyard in the middle of southern Maryland. Beautiful setting and excellent selection of wines make for an extraordinary experience. Would also recommend going on Saturday when they serve pizza and have live music!!
Great place and a beautiful vineyard! No place I rather drink wine and beer and hang out with my family. Mike and his team have done a great job! Get the membership because it is more than worth it.
First time to this particular winery and LOVED it. I usually stick to the wineries in VA so I decided to try Running Hare this past Sunday with my fiancé and we really enjoyed it. The wine tasting was nice...a mix of reds and whites with a little something different for every palette. The staff really took it to the next level for us; they were so knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and hospitable. After the tasting we purchased a bottle of wine and sat in the picnic area to enjoy live music, which they have on the weekends. You can bring your own food as well. There is also a beer garden if you like the best of both worlds. The vineyard reminds me of Italy. Definitely try this place out! I will definitely be back with more company :)
Had a great first time there some really good wine 🍷 and the music was awesome will definitely be going back …
Great atmosphere, good, and drinks. Dogs welcome!
Breathtaking vineyard and the staff equally awesome. A tasting is well worth the trip and the environment is everything.
Beautiful venue! Only caution is that it is natural and rustic walking up to the building, so you may want to wear flats & carry your heels. It's a combination of grass, slate walkway and wood. Again very pretty, but not heel friendly.
Have been here many times for wine tastings and other events. Decided to use this beautiful venue for my daughter's wedding. The day could not have been more perfect. The only disappointment was that there was a staff change in her day of coordinator a few weeks before the wedding that we were not informed about, so suddenly we were working with a staff member who had not met with us, and did not have a relationship with me or my daughter and did not attempt to build one which was stressful for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, some of what we were promised were not delivered. For example, we were promised propane heaters for the outside area of our event since it was November and we had the cocktail hour outside. It was quite cold standing in line for food, and when I asked staff about the heaters, they said they knew nothing about it and did not have them. Overall, still happy with how everything turned out.
I have been there again in the last two weekends officiating wedding what a great place to get married the staff is awesome
Nice place with live music. Went during winter so it was off season, but they still had a guy jamming. Couple of beers bought were expired though and the kids running around were dampers, but I’d go back anytime because the scenery was nice
For a vineyard, they had 4 wines of their own. Others you can get elsewhere. They are rebuilding their production facility. That said, it is a wonderful venue for enjoying the countryside and music. The setting is gorgeous. They also have a biergarten that we didn’t visit, but it is right next to the winebar. They also had 2 food truck. You can buy food at a food truck or bring your own.
Beautiful place! Wine was great! Estate Planning seminar could have used more control over loud obnoxious parties in crowd interrupting speakers. Like that kid in class who doesn't shutup so everyone else can learn something. Parking was a disaster!
Nice place for an outdoor venue. They get a good mix of bands. Beer and wine a plenty. They have food and you can bring your own. Good time.
My wife and I had never been here before, so we didn't really know what to expect. However, there were food trucks, a wide variety of beverages, and a live musician. It was a very family-friendly atmosphere, while still being a place that adults would love to come and relax. Not to mention, the area is gorgeous, so you could probably rent it out for events. My wife and I will definitely be back!
The positives are that it’s very picturesque here and it’s great they let you bring your own food, especially since they are frequently out of the food they advertise. I also like they have the beer garden for those who aren’t into wine. My big negative is the nasty, overflowing porta potties they have for their customers to use. I would think this place could invest in a proper restroom facility.
This place is beautiful food was delicious yay Pizza .🍕. bring the kids, friends, Dog and most of all have fun …
This is a very picturesque venue. The staff is friendly. Live music playing popular favorites. Highly recommend getting a Groupon.
What a wonderful place to spend a relaxing Sunday! The vineyard is beautiful and their wine is terrific. I could bring my family and each of us had a blast. Also the pizza is the best!
Nice place, very expensive good for once in a while. Beautiful place, lots of very nice people. Will go back in a year.
Great place to sit out and enjoy some great beers some good food and Enjoy the music
Very beautiful location! Wine is pretty decent as well!
Awesome venue. We enjoyed perfect weather and a nice couple of hours. The wines are good. The staff is friendly and informative. The brewery staff is a little stiff but guess that is just beer drinkers. It got busy quick I think this is a hidden treasure that a lot of folks have found out about. I am glad I was one of them.
Really cute place to sit and chat while enjoying a glass of wine with friends. There was live music while here, which was a nice touch, though we had to sit at the furthest table to be able to talk. The prices seemed a bit high for a small plastic cup of wine as well, though it was definitely tasty.
Place was clean. Crowd was nice. Unfortunately, it felt like 10,000 degrees outside. The food truck items were overcooked and it took 30 minutes plus to get the food. The musician was fair. It was a one man show, but not bad.
Absolutely beautiful here! The wines here are very nice and the atmosphere of this place is relaxing. I like to come here from dc because it's close and you are in a different world than the city. There are about 8-10 different wines to try. The price for a tasting is $5 and the tastings are generous. The staff is friendly. The tasting area has plenty of seating. I would recommend to bring a picnic with you. This is a great place to spend a couple hours. I loved the running hare house white wine.
Great winery, with many options for an evening/afternoon out! There's wine, beer, even adult slushies! Right now during covid-19 they're having outdoor movies Friday nights, then the market, plus live music! Great place to hang out, enjoy some wine, music, and good company at the many available picnic tables (first come, first served). They don't have wine flights yet, but they said it was coming... Only wine by the glass or by the bottle. We enjoyed our evening!
I like it! Beautiful place and so many fun events! I've enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks event and a summer's girl's night. Those were great!
The two less enjoyable events for me included a drive in movie. Fun idea and probably better if you get there early enough. Decided not to again because we were so far back I could hardly see the blow up screen and sound wasn't loud enough. Also, chainsmokers were stinking up the place so cigarette smoke wafted through my car the duration of the film. A lot of fun for others but we were just too far away.
The second event was a camp out. The Porta potties were really gross, but what are you going to do? 3 pizzas were over 40 bucks, 3 hamburgers 3 hotdogs were also over 40 bucks. They are descently good but not that good. No spiked hot cider or hot mull wine for cold night? Only cold drinks. Live music was great, but after it ends people crank up their own music and drunk people party until after 2 in the morning. Its a winery so what do you expect? Just no bueno if you get sleepy before then or have young kids who want to sleep. Probably not so bad if the cars/tents were not so close together or if they separated groups from single tent patrons. Sort of disappointing because there appeared to be so much empty field.
Last thing about camping. There were 3 generators that were on all night, so even after the party noises quiet down you never get peaceful sound.
Overall, they have good wine and wine slushies, a gorgeous venue and a lot of different and fun events for everyone, this was just my experience.
Always have such a wonderful experience here!!! It's a beautiful piece of property with amazing wine! I love that they are hosting the drive in movies! My family enjoyed a night out watching The Goonies in the perfect weather outside last night!! Can't wait to do it again!!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The perfect amount of selections for beer/wine and the WINE SLUSHEES are amazing. One con to it is the bathrooms, which leads me to a 3 star...no one wants to use a gross, nasty, porta potty.
Plenty of seating outside with covered tables and park bench/tables. Live music. They have a nice, open-air, wine bar along with a fair sized beer tent. Beer tent has craft beers, which provides a nice selection. They also have wood burning pizza ovens with pizza for sale - though you can bring your own food and make a day of it.. In the summer, try the frozen wine slushies. This is a great place!
Was an amazing venue with an amazing atmosphere. I'd recommend it to anybody! Check it out
The vineyard was gorgeous! The staff was amazing and they tried VERY hard to be quick, considerate, and enjoyable! However, they had no running water, and relied on porta-potts, which were the most disgusting facilities I've ever seen. No matter which one you tried to use they were literally almost filled to the top with waste. They were drenched in urine, and the handwashing stations had no soap, paper towels, nor hand sanitizer available. By night fall there was no lighting available at most of the "restroom" locations, and those that did, had them set so far away it was pitch black inside. The best food truck available (CALVERT CRABS) was fenced off, in the section for overnight camping, and people were having issues accessing their truck, if they were not on the camping list.
Out of the 3 food trucks near the beirgarten, the food was basic, and not at all the expected caliber to match the selection or unique beer and wine. The longest wait was from, of all places, the pizza place, that was so busy there was a 2 hour wait for a tiny 4 slice, raw pizza with cold sauce and barely melted cheese. How that happens in a 500°+ brick oven is beyond my understanding.
I know we will go again, because they have great events, but they need more organization.
Great atmosphere. The hot cider and pizza were delicious!
Amazing views, amazing customer service at the tasting bar and you get to taste 4 beers and at least 6 wines! Awesome live music and a brick over pizza tent. Bring your own cooler of snacks/cheeses and enjoy a great day with great atmosphere.
We stopped here on a summer day on Sunday. Weather was perfect. They had a brick oven pizza outdoors and also a wine tasting area, as well as local beer bar. Very pleasant place to visit and spend a couple of hours. Something fun to do in the area and promote local products!
We went to the NYE Extravaganza and had an incredible time. The location was perfect, the food exquisite, and the band they had playing really really good - we had such a fun time dancing and getting dressed up for a fancy evening.
My fiancee and I go here as often as possible. During the warmer months they have an outside tasting room nestled in the wooded hills surrounded by vineyards all over-looked by a house named (appropriately) The Tuscan house. I feel like we are transported from Maryland to another place. We go on the weekend with some snacks to enjoy the outside, a bottle of their superior wine, and listen to the live music they have playing - a wonderful place to take friends and family.
Great staff. Great atmosphere. Great music. Great time
Kid and pet friendly. Great wine slushies and live music.
We have been here seven or eight times and every time it gets worse. For starters the wine is average at best; we prefer big, bold, full-bodied reds and they have the varietals but not the winemaking talent. Non-subjective thoughts aside, we waited in the tasting line for 17 minutes. There was only one more couple ahead of us, four workers serving wine, and no one ever acknowledged us or even gave us a simple “we’ll be right with you”. This was not an issue of whether or not they knew we were present and waiting since we were directly under the tasting line sign and within eight feet of the tasting bar.
They offer a Groupon which we purchased, only there is not any cellular service on the premises, so that was another five minute ordeal.
They were out of the pinot grigio and the untrained server not only mispronounced chambourcin but also didn’t explain any of the wine properties or characteristics. If it wasn’t for the good music and atmosphere, I would never come back.
Running Hare was the first and only wedding venue that we visited. I fell in love with it. They made planning very easy and recommended the perfect caterer to help make our wedding day perfect. You have to buy 4 cases of wine but we didn’t mind. Our guests drink lots of wine and the caterer made a delicious sangria with their Jack Rabbit red. It was a magical day and worth every penny.
Barbara and Mike certainly have a place that lives up to its reputation of being not a Maryland vineyard, but a vineyard in Maryland. My fiancé and I have been to many wineries in the USA and Italy and this one is definitely one of our favorites. We liked it so much that we chose to have our wedding there! The wine is delicious, the people who work there are great, and the scenery is second to none... what else could you ask for! We really enjoyed our time at Running Hare and can't wait for our next time back there. I definitely recommend anyone who has an appreciation for wine to go there, relax, and give it a taste!
Pro Tip: If you’re in town and want to visit a winery, check out Groupon or other similar sites for deals on tastings at Running Hare. For a discounted price ($25?) a pair of us sampled their wines, kept souvenir glasses, and walked away with a bottle of our favorite wine. After 8 wines, there was a clear winner for us that made the voucher worth it. We had to wait around 15-20 minutes in line, but they clearly seemed understaffed on that particular day—can’t imagine that’s a regular wait. Great views and a relaxing place to walk around. Four stars for offering deals to social sites!
We love this beautiful little piece of paradise! You'd never guess when you pull down the drive what a huge stunning vineyard this is. Many good times and great music but quiet enough that you feel cozy. Bring your own snacks or lunch, they don't mind a bit. We feel like we are in Tuscany!
Nice place but the live music is so loud it's to the point of being unpleasant. Hard to relax when can't even hear the person right next to you as the singer blares through a rendition of Wonderwall.
Loved the peach mango wine slush. Bought a souvenir cup to get discounts on refills. Cool band. Decent crowd.
Great Venue - Meh Wines
Can’t fault the location and facilities. A great place to meet friends, take the family and dogs. But don’t set your wine quality expectations too high.
At this time of year, maybe they struggled with limited batch sizes of their own wines. With a couple of exceptions, the wines on offer were bottled with base stock from California and Chile. In fact the best wine, imho, was the Chilean Merlot.
Will try one more time if tasting list changes.
I visited this place in 2010 when they first opened and it was one of the most peaceful and welcoming places on the east coast. I did not like the DMV area until I found this place. It makes me want to drive from Dallas just to get that feeling again, great wine, great music, great people. Keep up the good work! xoxoxoxo
It rained today, but I enjoyed the race through the lovely vineyard.
It was a very nice, relaxing place. The people were really very friendly. The wine was very good. The venue was beautiful.
Great place, hate they are now charging 5 dollars for entry fee. I get but don't like it. I guess Ill find another great place.
$$$ I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED! I'm not a wine fan but they really had a great selection of local micro brews and a great ambiance. I will be back!
Fantastic family atmosphere! I loved the wine flights and live music this weekend. There is something here for everyone.
If you're an experienced OR novice wine lover, you MUST visit the Running Hare Vineyard! Be sure to try the Chambourcin (dessert red), Jack Rabbit White (semi sweet white), Sangiovese (medium dry red) and the Chilean Malbec (delicious, smoky dry red).... Magnifique! Beautiful setting, great patio, dogs allowed, live music, plenty of family fun. Just make a whole day of it!
Yes, it's close to home so I've have been there several times. But on a whim we stopped by on a cold winter Saturday on a whim. What a surprising way to spend a bad weather afternoon!
Can't wait to get back when spring arrives. I do hope they expand their hours again (I forgot to ask if this was a new policy or just a seasonal change
We have two 5k runs at the Vineyards. Its beautiful. The wine and beer are good. There is food on the property.
Average wine, elegant grounds, slightly overpriced. Only the discontinued Sangiovese was worthy of purchase for our group of six. We participated in an elegant wedding here, but had better wine at Port of Leonardtown (worse at Perigeaux).
Great beer selection, good music, and always plenty of food trucks to choose from.
Relaxing atmosphere, kind staff and good wine 😄 Will definitely be back! …
Great vibe! There was plenty of space for my friends and I to spread out. The wine slushes are amazing!
I love this place! Good music, good drinks, fun atmosphere. Just a fun way to spend a Friday night.
Amazing! I never knew this place existed, and was so close to home! I will return many times.

Comedy Show tonight was amazing! So many great laughs!!! Can’t wait for the next show!
The ambiance of this vineyard is so tranquil. I am not an outdoor person but the atmosphere is so peaceful and the beers and the wines are so good that I forget that I am outside with the bees & flies!
it's a great venue and the fundraiser for Pets With Disabilites was a great success.
Fabulous time with family and extended family. Celebrated my sister's 60th Birthday. Absolutely Beautiful Venue💯 …
The wine slushies are phenomenal and with live entertainment on the weekends you just can't beat it!!
Beautiful vineyard. Very picturesque. Good wines and beers. Good entertainment as well
Beautiful area... lovely scenery... delicious wines
perfect venue for a wedding or a girls day out... $10 tastings aren't bad. The wine is pretty good
An amazing vineyard located in Prince Frederick. Take a picnic and enjoy a bottle of wine at their outside tasting area surrounded by grapes.
Definitely a good time showcasing local comics. Love it. Highly recommend
Fabulous grounds and wonderful wines. There is a little stage by the bar/tasting pavilion, I must come on a weekend for the music!
Best wine I have EVER HAD from a local winery. Plus, the grounds and atmosphere can't be beat.

Took in drive in movie for the second Saturday in a row. Great family fun and a nice respite from current events.
Went for their annual fire works display. They had professional staff and great wine.
The wine tasting is outdoors. That was why a 4. They charge for tastings, too.
Beautiful...the cover charge seems odd but oh well.
Great chill place work live music and great wine slushies.
