I've got amazing experience here! I was scared to drive, especially at highways, but Joyce easily helped me to overcome this fear! I drove almost all highways. She helped me to understand how to approach highway driving, how to enter traffic, change lines and don't be scared. She was very cautious and prevented any unexpected situations with grace. She never yells, and I had great and fun time with her! She knows when you are ready to go to highway even if you feel that you are not ready. I'm very grateful she was my teacher!

My experience with IDA and my instructor was excellent. Joyce was really patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. It was a great idea to take a 35min warm up before the driving test. Even after watching numerous YouTube tutorials on parallel parking, I performed it incorrectly despite having driving expertise. Joyce was able to give tips and tricks on how to accomplish it easily, and I felt my instructor was really interested in ensuring I was ready to obtain my driver's license. It was extremely useful! I passed my driving exam on the first try. Really great experience!! Thank you!!!

Moving from dubai, I had a lot of questions on the driving rules . The instructor made me feel at ease explained all the situations and what to do and not to do . Gave me a step by step pictorial view of how I should be doing things . Overall I would say nobody would I have explained it better and in such a calm way . I would recommend this school any day . I highly recommend this school whether it comes to both taking driving lessons and giving the road test. Joyce has been a really patient and kind instructor and gives a lot of good tips to be a better driver. I learnt a lot from her. I thought I knew a lot about driving before I took a couple of classes in the school but I realized that there was so much I didn't know. Great driving school!! Joyce is passionate and genuinely interested in consistently streamlining her craft in driving and teaching others to drive. If you learn well from consistent feedback and are good at adopting a let’s-plunge-right-in mindset to get things done, then this is definitely the place for you. Word of advice: Book early and book fast! Lessons slots fill up very quickly.

I had a wonderful experience with IDA. I took both my knowledge and driving test there. I also scheduled a 2 hour driving lesson to brush up on my driving skills. Joyce, the instructor, was friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I scheduled an additional 35 min warm up session right before my driving test which was super helpful. Joyce is an excellent instructor and the whole experience was fantastic.

I decided to come to IDA for 2 reasons, the first was because it had great reviews and the second was because the reviews were maybe too great? It had hundreds of reviews across Google and Yelp and EVERY SINGLE review gave it 5 stars. I haven’t seen any institution with a record like this one and when I came here for my tests, it was clear why. The place is extremely professionally run and Joyce is a brilliant instructor who seems to genuinely care about putting safe drivers on the road. I have been driving for many years, all over the world and finally decided to get a license in the US. I ended up taking the driving test more than once because I didn’t really prepare (overconfidence) and was maybe a little too casual with my approach. Joyce helped me out and made sure I was being both a safe(r) driver and got through the test successfully (and if you’re worried about the obvious perverse incentive structure of a driving school offering to certify you with paid tests, I can assure you that you don’t need to worry about that here, Joyce didn’t keep charging me extra when I had to take the test multiple times).

Me and my husband were extremely pleased with the facility and the training experience. Joyce is a fine trainer and really helps you out to know the areas you need to focus not just to clear the test but also focuses on making you a safe driver. I would highly recommend for new people moving into the country with previous driving experience to go for the orientation/warm up session. We both found it super helpful.

I came here for the knowledge test, then took classes and then the driving test. My experience here was great!! I started out super nervous on the road and made mistakes like 90% of the time (or more lol) but Joyce was super patient with me 😂 She's a great instructor and very knowledgeable. She was able to detect what I needed to work on and arranged the classes in the way that I could practice what I was bad at and eventually become better at it. She gave me lots of tips during classes and what I should be careful of before the actual exam and that was super helpful. Highly recommend this place!

Firstly, I took my written test at this location and Somehow I felt that I should take my driving lessons here and I did. The master instructor MS.Joyce did a commendable job, not just teaching for the sake of. Her level of patience for any new driver like me and her knowledge is remarkable. She is a very dedicated teacher and makes each and every minute of the paid lesson not just worthy, but it makes you a defensive driver. she keenly found my needs, and places of attention like signals,turns,signboards and corrected it. She also figured out my native influences in driving and corrected accordingly. Also I couldn't get my lessons immediately when I wanted, but totally worth the wait.(as she is the best teacher in town) I would suggest anyone to wait &take the lesson in IDA. Overall, If you are totally a new driver/who knows a bit, IDA is the best place to choose as it provides the right guidance, when followed makes all your driving dreams come true.

I took my driving test today and the process was fantastic! We went for the warm up drive first, which was helpful for me to just get settled in and refreshed on driving in the US, and I got some very useful tips that I was able to put into practice for the test. She was very warm and friendly and also had lots of advice and notes and visual aids that we talked through before the test and after to give me some helpful takeaways for the future. I would highly recommend her services for practice and for the test itself!

I choose here because it's 5 mins walking from my home but it is absolutely beyond my expectations. Before my first lecture I have never been behind the wheels so I was kind of finger crossed. But during the lectures the coach patiently told me common sense about the car, demo the position on paper and let me start in the training court. I gained the courage and confidence from then on. U turn, parallel parking, making right decisions at turnings... all of these scared many of my friends away from driving, but my coach taught me in very easy-to-understanding ways and really easy to remember and master. Besides teaching how to drive, my coach also taught me how to "drive well". Some contents are definitely not explicitly required by law, but my coach also encouraged me to follow "best practices". After finishing my lectures I can't wait to have my own car. Thanks IDA driving school and my coach, who not only makes me not fear to drive, but also makes me love and safely to drive! No matter what level you are, this will be a very good place for you to choose!

The best driving school out there. I never rode a bicycle as a child, so you can image how terrifying a vehicle is to me. Joyce is super patient, she teaches not only the basic but what you need to do to be safe on the road. My covid driving experience with her was the best. I failed the test on my first try, with my lack of confidence Joyce persisted and got me to where she wanted on my second try. She will warn you, that you will learn on the road one day.🤣 so getting it now will be better than on the road. She made me not afraid of the freeway, now I drive everywhere now. And I understand the importance of checking all the mirrors. When I'm alone on the road I can feel safe, because of the training I received from her.

As a European who recently moved to Washington, I had to get my driver's license within 30 days after arriving. I used IDA driving school for my knowledge test, which worked out great. The actual driving test went smoothly, where the instructor shared a few last tips&tricks before starting the test, made me feel super comfortable during the ride, and walked me through both good and watch-out remarks after I passed the exam. The instructor was relaxed, taking a lot of time to make sure I felt comfortable and understood the guidelines, before hitting the road. Great experience overall!

As a former student here, highly recommend IDA! I received lessons and completed my written and driving test here over the summer. Before coming to IDA, I was really anxious about driving and couldn't imagine being comfortable enough getting behind the wheel. If you are looking for a driving school, please make sure you put IDA at the top of your list. I am very grateful that I chose IDA for my knowledge test, 6 hours driving lessons and a day after my last lesson, I took the drive test (with warm-up session). Thankfully, I passed it and today I got my driver's license. Yay!!! Joyce, my instructor was a total stranger for me, but I don't know how, she made me comfortable to ask and to be myself. She knew that when I giggled, it meant that I started to understand what she was saying and she also stayed calm when I screamed here and there. Thank you so much Joyce. PS : For you who already registered for the lessons at IDA, give yourself 5-10 minutes and go straight to the restroom at IDA before you start to drive or maybe you will need to excuse yourself in the middle of the lesson just to pee.

First thing first, I would highly recommend IDA and Joyce if you have any needs in driving! I took my knowledge test, driving lessons as well as road test all at IDA and I was super impressed by how helpful Joyce was throughout the process. Instead of throwing you to the road directly, she started with detailed explanations of the vehicle, sharing tips and tricks, emphasizing the importance to be a defensive driver. All these notes stay in my mind even after my lessons. During driving, Joyce always made the experience fantastic. She held interesting conversations with me while kept high standards in providing driving feedbacks which I truly appreciated. She is wonderful to work with, as a professional instructor, or as a nice friend. I can continue talking but all I want to say is, you won't regret choosing IDA to start your driving journey!

The other reviews don't lie, Joyce is amazing as she sounds. Seriously, stop looking for other driving test locations - this is the one you want. I booked a quick review lesson followed immediately by a driving test. In total, I spent two hours behind the wheel next to Joyce, who, although was a complete stranger, made me feel perfectly comfortable the whole entire time. She shared her vast knowledge of Washington driving laws and nuances, taught me new tips and tricks for mastering some trickier maneuvers, and then proceeded to professionally and fairly evaluate my driving during the test. We've all heard the horror stories about awful driving instructors and driving test evaluators. Joyce is the complete opposite, to the point where she decided to give me a second chance on my test when a weird encounter with another driver ruined my ability to pass. She saved me weeks of time in doing so, and I'm very grateful for it. PS. When paying her after your lesson/test, be sure to tip her. The application she uses to process payments doesn't make it clear that this is an option, and a glare on the screen caused me to miss it entirely. She deserves the tip!

10/10 would recommend IDA! I took both my permit written exam and my driving test here. I took 10 hours class and it was just perfect. I learned how to parallel park, back around the corner, drive on the highway (merge, enter, exit, switch lane) in no time. Joyce is a true natural when it comes to teaching. Hey a great experience with Joyce! In total, I drove 10 hours and had my licensing exam with her. She was a fantastic teacher in that she was attentive, supportive, and thoughtful. She would notice when I was feeling stressed, and helped me get comfortable with driving. When some concepts were hard to understand, like parallel parking, she took the time to think of a way to get me to fully understand. Moreover, Joyce helped me get reading for a licensing exam in a week! She was kind in booking lessons through the Thanksgiving holidays. Highly recommend her as an instructor!

Joyce is an amazing instructor. I had zero driving experience prior to taking lessons from Joyce. Whenever I made a mistake, she would patiently explain what I did wrong and what I can do to avoid making the same mistake. She would also call out tiny little details that you might not otherwise pay attention to, so you can be a better driver on the road. During our lessons, she would have me drive at different places with different road conditions to enrich my learning experience. I never felt stressed while on the road and really appreciate the driving lessons she provided. After a few lessons, Joyce thought I was ready for the driving test and encouraged me to take it (which I passed on first try). She was very honest about my progress and I did not feel pressured to sign up for more lessons. I searched long and hard for an excellent driving school (as this was my first driving experience and I wanted to have a solid foundation). I'm really glad I chose IDA and I would recommend it to anyone looking for quality driving lessons.

Highly recommend this place over the big driving schools!! Joyce is an excellent instructor. She provided very specific tips to improve instead of providing vague instructions. Since she takes all classes, she can see your progress and focus on areas of improvement. Her two hour class format is helpful. She can also relate to foreign drivers who already have driving experience. Had a lot of fun learning with her and passed my test within a week. IDA can be pricer than other schools specially if you're taking lessons on non office hours but it is totally worth it. She is mostly booked and needs to be reached out in advance. Although she kindly does try to accommodate urgent requests for classes.

I took 15 hours lessons and both knowledge test and driving test here. Joyce is literally the best. I am glad that I found this academy. Before I took the lessons I even didn’t know what the car buttons are for and how cars move. She taught me driving from the basics. She never got mad at me or annoyed at me even when I almost had an accident in Seattle. She’s always patient and understood how I felt and what driving part was hard for me and why it was. Joyce is a really great tester. I came in only to take the driving test and was somewhat nervous, but she made the whole experience very enjoyable. If you're confused at any point or with any instruction, you can just ask her to clarify and she will gladly do so. Her directions are always anticipated and given with time, so you never have to do any crazy maneuvers. No trick questions; concise and straight to the point. At the end of the test, we went over the results, what I did well, and what could be improved. Got my license a couple of weeks later. 10/10 would test again.

I did both my knowledge exam and skill exam here, they were both pretty good experiences. In the skill exam I booked a warmup session where the instructor taught me a lot of useful things, which I’m sure will come to great use in the future. It’s a bit of a pity that the spots are kind of limited, you need to book a month ahead for a skill exam. Overall it is very recommended.

During the early stages of COVID, I emailed 10+ driving schools to inquire about how to sign up. Of all the schools I contacted, it was only IDA that replied to let me know classes had resumed when restrictions were lifted. I signed up for the class and have no regrets! Even though I was so intimidated and made so many mistakes when I started, Joyce was very patient and helpful. She always gave me the reassurance I needed to hit the road again. She's a great teacher and explains difficult concepts in simple ways for newbies to understand. Driving classes has been my favorite outdoor activity during the pandemic and I'm so sad it's already over! Today, I took my road test and passed! Even after my license is issued, I'll still want to schedule more classes with Joyce so I get better at being a defensive driver. While I had driven earlier in life it had been nearly 20 years since I had my drivers license and I was having a lot of anxiety about my return to the road. I wanted to make sure that I was ready to be a safe and defensive driver in the craziness that is Seattle driving these days. I looked around for quite a while, but many of the driving schools came with poor reviews. I was so happy to find IDA had such good reviews, so I decided to contact them . Communication was quick and responsive and the scheduling was easy to fit with mine. Joyce of IDA puts Safety first! While she is preparing you for the test, its always most important to teach you how to be aware, always thinking, safe and courteous while you are on the road. I thought I knew most of the basics and tactics of driving, but Joyce taught me SO MUCH. I would share my lessons with some friends who are experienced drivers, and they always learned something they didn't know previously. Beyond the great skills lessons, she is also an incredibly friendly and fun teacher who treats you like family. Everything about my time with IDA exceeded my expectations. I HIGHLY recommend IDA as you will not find a better teacher or experience. I was actually a little sad when I passed my test as I knew my time driving with Joyce had ended.

I took my knowledge test and driving test here within the last month. Scheduling was easy with quick response times by email. Weekend scheduling is a great option to have for people that work during the normal hours and I took advantage of that. I just took the tests and do not have much insight into the instruction/lessons, but Joyce is very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. We had a great conversation after my road test about driving habits and defensive driving in general. The DOL makes you jump through hoops to get a WA driver's license, even if you have a valid driver's license from another country + an expired license from another state... After having learner’s permit from two different states and having to do two renewals since I moved to Seattle (tip: permit expires after one year, knowledge test score expires after two years) mainly due to laziness and fear of driving, I have determined this is the year I’m going to learn how to drive! I am so glad I found Joyce :) I first called those big driving schools but I called multiple times and no one picked up. I did some searching and called Joyce, she picked up right away and scheduled first lesson after discussing my (lack of) driving experience. She sends google calendar invites for each lesson, which I found very helpful. I have heard horror stories about other driving instructors yelling at students, which I was really worried about, but Joyce is very patient, friendly, knowledgeable, and good at explaining and breaking down complex concepts into smaller steps. Joyce worked as an examiner at DOL before opening her own school, she is an expert! And she makes driving fun to learn! I always look forward to her lessons. I did the 15 hour package, the knowledge test and the driving test with Joyce. I learned: - how a car works and what all the controls do - read the road signs and “read” the road conditions with all the cars coming/going - importance of and developing a habit of signaling, checking mirrors and blind spot - gas/break gently - make smooth left/right turns - parallel parking - backing up a corner - parking on a hill - freeway driving .... and much more! Joyce has a check list of things that she teaches each student. I find observational hours helpful because I could see what other student drivers were doing and take mental note: “do I make the same mistake when I drive?”. Also, I find it helpful to talk out loud during the road test (like a technical engineer interview) that reminds myself what I need to do. Driving is a serious matter - yours and others’ lives are at stake, I am grateful to have learn from Joyce, who truly cares about her students learning the correct and safe way of driving.

Comparing to the other driving school it’s the GREAT driving school ever! The instructor teaches you the tricks for the parking and gives more than one tries (adjust) during the exam such as the parking part! I did the knowledge and driving test on the same day (on a Sunday no less), with a half hour warm-up lesson beforehand. I recently relocated back to the U.S. from Europe and needed to get a new driver's license in Washington State. I took both the knowledge and driving tests (on different days) at IDA. Even though I've been driving for over 20 years, I decided to do an hour-long refresher course right before taking the driving test to make sure I passed. We practiced parallel parking, driving in reverse around a corner, and all of the skills needed to pass the exam - which I did on the first try. Make sure you pre-apply for your license before going to take any tests (on License eXpress), as you'll need to provide a WA driver ID# when you arrive for the tests (this will become your new driver's license number). I highly recommend working with Joyce at IDA. She was friendly, easy to communicate with, and follows COVID-19 protocols.

Great place. Just after moving into US, I needed to retake my driver tests (as my license from my country wasn't recognized in US). After reading the Washington state rules, I just went and took the knowledge test here. A week later, I took my road test (I needed to wait for my SSN to arrive via mail for that). IDA allows you to take the test in their vehicle, so you don't have to have your own (and you can't buy one without a license!). The road test consisted of two parts: first, a 35 minute warmup, during which the instructor explained general US rules of the road and had me drive around the area to get the gist of them, and then there was the test itself. 2 hours later I got my US driving license :).
