My first experience at Angell Street Dental was wonderful. As a new patient, it was very easy to schedule an appointment. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. Dr. James was very attentive to my concerns and questions. She provided a lot of helpful information to me about treatments and options I had available to me, but was also very thoughtful about what she thought I needed vs. what I didn't need. Very pleased at my decision to find a new dentist at Angell Street Dental.

I recently saw Dr. James as a new patient and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!! John, was extremely friendly and efficient with getting my x-rays taken. He actually made me laugh while being at the dentist! Dr.James and John made me feel so comfortable. Dr.James, was so thorough during my dental exam and took the time and answered all the questions that I had. She was very informative and made me feel comfortable sitting in her chair; I highly recommend coming to see Dr.James for all your dental needs. What a GREAT team!!

I had seen many dentists throughout Providence. My insurance is very picky about whom they pay, and I had been having a very hard time with dentists. Luckily, I asked a family member for a referral. He gave have me Angell Street Dental and I havent looked back! At the front desk, Lindsay greeted me. She was kind and professional. Sam was able to get my records emailed to the office. Lindsay then and scheduled me with Dr. DePetrillo. Thinking back on my appointment, it was hard to believe how kind and gentle Dr. DePetrillo was to me. After examining me, he said that I need work but my teeth were in good shape overall. After my first visit, I had two more appointments and now I have no cavities. I continue to be patient at Angell Street Dental and recommend them to anyone who asks!

the hygienist was great. Patient rooms need lots of TLC, nothing like looking that ceiling where it is just blank. how about putting some picture/painting/murals on those ceilings so the patient doesn't have to stare at old lights and old painted ceiling.

It can really make an impression for future visits so I was a bit nervous but the team was super friendly and informative and my daughter got a perfect score on brushing! she is now super motivated to brushing her teeth as she got a new toothpaste at that visit. I recently switched to this office and the dental care I got from Dr. Gilardetti was top-notch. She sat with me and answered all my questions, and didn't make me feel rushed at all, and was really gentle. I also was seen right away/on time, and the front desk and dental hygeinist staff were friendly and made me feel super comfortable. I feel like the care I am getting here is really competent and professional, and high quality, especially from Dr Gilardetti - who took the time to sit with me and answer my questions about TMJ, dental problems I've had after a concussion, etc. I also needed a night guard and it came in right away - both of my appointments I was able to have scheduled within a week. Very happy so far!

I grew up without fluoride in my tap water (think "cavities"). And I was poor for a long time after graduate school (Brown). Teeth suffer. When I first posted this review, I'd been under Dr. Charlie Riotto's care for a couple of decades. He kept my mouth whole (not easy work, by the way; I have a small mouth with limited access). My Depression-era, GI-serving dad had all his remaining teeth pulled by the time he was 50, moving uncomfortably into dentures at that point. I'm 74 (tomorrow 75) ... and I still have a fully functioning set of teeth in my head. Thank you, Charlie! You're not just a conscientious doctor, you're an artist. Thank you, Angell Street. NOW I have Dr. Thomas DePetrillo ... since Charlie has chosen retirement and golf (rewards well-deserved).

Dr. Riotto was recommended to me by a colleague three years ago. I wish I had found him much sooner! I have nothing but high reviews for Dr. Riotto and his staff. Dr. Riotto, along with my input, created a treatment plan for me and we have successfully completed it. He is a very skilled and knowledgeable dentist who genuinely cares about his patients. Many times after dental work Dr. Riotto would call me at home to follow up on how I was feeling. I felt at ease in his office right from the start; the entire office staff has always made me feel comfortable and welcome in a clean and friendly environment. They all genuinely care about their patients. I had extensive work done over the past three years, including cavities filled, crown work, cleanings, extractions, etc. We also made a plan for invisalign treatment, which I have finished and have "graduated" to retainers. I am extremely happy with the work that was done and the outcome. I would not hesitate recommending Dr. Riotto to everyone. By far, he is the best dentist I have received treatment from.

I have had significant TMJ pain and jaw locking for many years. My jaw would lock open and the pain would sometimes be unbearable. I've been to several dentists, and they were never able to help. I had a great experience with Dr. Gilardetti. The muscle exercises she recommended and the night guard she made improved my TMJ significantly. She took time answering all my questions. I am stunned to read a few bad reviews about this practice, and wonder if the comments were placed there by competitors. I see Dr. Riotto and he has been caring, compassionate and professional as is every staff member I have interacted with. I've had several assorted hygienists assigned to me and I was impressed with each and every one of them. Dr. Riotto is a perfectionist in the best way. I have needed a few root canals and all were pain free and my teeth look great. I had a chipped front tooth repaired and it looks perfect. PERFECT!

Posting for my moms experience... It has been three years since I was saved by Angell Street Dental in Providence, RI, in particular by my dental hygienist Gwen. In case you wonder how important it is to have the hygienist and dentist perform that slightly uncomfortable and awkward procedure of grabbing your tongue and pulling it out in the most unusual positions, I cannot stress enough, VERY IMPORTANT. If you are in a practice that does not perform this, please say something, and demand this procedure to be done at every dental visit as it could be life-saving. Three years ago I was diagnosed with squamous cell oral cancer, and it was picked up by my hygienist. I am still amazed by how she observed this tiny spot as it was literally on the back of my tongue where it meets the throat. I credit her with saving my life and had she not been so amazing at her job, this would have gone unnoticed until it was too late. This astute observation was not only praised by me, but by Dentist Dr. Charles Riotto, the oral surgeon, the ENT MD who did the biopsy and the ENT oncologist at Tufts. Being as I had not history of smoking, the origin of the cancer remains a perplexing notion by all who were involved in my care. Recently I had another scare as another hygienist in the Angell Street dental practice was doing a routine cleaning when she observed a “slight abnormal spot” on the tip of my tongue. Again, this was perplexing as the spot was so miniscule that I don’t know how anyone could see it. It is a true testimony to the Angell Street dental team, that the hygienists there are incredible diligent about the practice of checking for oral cancer. I am happy to say that this particular spot was removed and biopsied by the same ENT oncologist (like I would trust anyone else), and turned out to be benign. I am eternally grateful to Angell Street Dental for doing such incredible dental care and truly saving my life. I want to thank Dr. Riotto for his amazingly fast and cordial response to my emergency inquiry on behalf of my son, Nick. Nick is a sophomore in high school, attending a summer course at Brown University. He has suddenly developed a sensitivity in a molar that he thinks could be a cavity, and he contacted me because he is worried about embarking on a 5 week sailing course in the Virgin Islands that starts on Friday. After speaking with his dentist here in San Francisco, I started calling the dentists listed on the Brown University website, to see if anyone might be able to work Nick into the daily schedule and determine whether any action needs to be taken now, rather than in August.
