Absolutely the best! Everyone involved from making an appointment (Jeffery), treatment planning, billing, checking in, checking out, and perhaps most importantly the dental student (Payton) was efficient, courteous, and caring. The facility can be easily accessed by light rail, and a connected parking structure if you want to drive. I won’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone who needs quality dental care. But keep in mind that it will take more time during each visit and more total visits than in private practice because the dental students are still going through training. In return of increased investment of your time, you get a thorough care and spend less than in private practice.

I had a great experience with the Orange clinic at the school of dentistry. Ms. Amanda was a kind and friendly student who lead my crown treatment over the course of a few months with about 4 appointments. There was very clear communication at every stage to the patient as well as with the supervising professors. The cost of treatment was way cheaper than what It was quoted at private clinics. I am so happy and satisfied that I got the perfect treatment!! Will definitely recommend to others.

I had a 3 year student named Payton clean my teeth, he did an excellent job. I would highly recommend going here but just be prepare to be her for hours, It’s worth it! I have dental insurance but my insurance only is accepted at certain clinics and those clinics are not the greatest. The U of M accepts all insurance and is way cheaper if you pay cash. I feel like I’m getting exceptional service. Thank you U of M dental school!

I am so grateful for the U of MN school of dentistry and the outstanding care I have received over the past 2 years as one of their dental patients. I have had a mix of good and bad dental experiences with other providers over the years, and it lead me to have quite a bit of hesitation to schedule dental work. I feel like the talented and welcoming student dentists, along with their experienced instructors, have not only done an outstanding job of helping me meet my dental goals, they have “cured” my of my “Dentist Anxiety”. I highly recommend trying out the school of dentistry. It is high quality care, in a warm and relaxing environment, at a fraction of the cost of other dental providers. I would like to especially thank Colton for his attention to detail, for always being willing to answer my questions, and his patient centered approach during appointments.

What can I say? You are not passed through as rapidly as at other dentists, but because of that, you also get more detailed and precise work, and the benefit of the instructors’ experience when one has weird stuff going on. Like 40-50 year old fillings! And weirdly cracked molars. Which were repaired in a way the regular dentist was very reluctant to, or possibly couldn’t do.

After dealing with not being able to get an appointment less than 9 months out and needing a lot of work done but only being able to get one thing done at a time and then having to wait another several months for the next thing to be done, I just couldn’t do it anymore. By the time they’d be able to fill a cavity, there would be 2 more. I called the U of MN School of Dentistry on a Friday and had an appointment for the following Monday. The student I’m assigned to I’m guessing must be one of the top in his class because he’s better than almost every dentist I’ve ever been to. He’s been able to get me in up to 3x’s/week and my teeth are finally getting taken care of. I’m so happy I chose to switch to the UofMN for my dental care. I’m finally getting my smile back. Highly recommend.

Ben was friendly, informative, and confident. My appts went smooth and things explained well to me so i had a good understanding of next steps throughout the entire process. Appts do take a little longer, but rightly so, as the students have their work checked in multiple points of the process to ensure you're getting the best care. Definitely recommend, especially if you're on a tighter budget. Far cheaper than traditional dental offices.

I have been going to the UMN Dental Clinic for all of my dental care needs for almost 5 years. The students and staff at UMN Dental Clinic are outstanding and awesome! I get great care at a very reasonable price. All the dental professionals and procedures are all in the same building (different floors) so there is no need to referred outside and different dental care needed is provided very fast and efficiently with outstanding dental care. The student dentists, interns and staff are always very professional courteous and competent in all they do! Last Friday 12/09 I had the greatest and painless molar extraction in my life. It took 30 mins and went very smoothly. After the extraction, I didn't even need or use any pain medication. Thanks a lot to Gia & Kevin! You both did an awesome extraction! You are the best! I will always go to UMN Dental Clinic for all my dental care! I'm very happy and satisfied with the dental care they provide!

Today Rolan repaired a tooth that anchored a major bridge. He was thoughtful, skilled and very careful in conducting this tough procedure. I'm careful in using the highest rating for most services, but this by him was exceptional.

Dental appointments take longer but are undertaken with care and precision. The providers address your questions and concerns and explain dental health things in very clear plainterms. Parking validation in Washington Avenue Ramp amounts to a $3 discount, but you'll have to pay the peak hourly rate beyond that. Tunnel connects the parking ramp to the 2nd floor of the Moos Tower building where the SOD clinics are housed.

The students are very proficient and well supervised by their instructors. A friendly, caring and stress-free environment. Extremely conscientious, friendly, and skilled dental students and very close supervision by faculty have afforded me excellent treatment while helping the students gain experience with their clinical practice. Treatment plans will take a longer duration than at a private dentist because there is limited "chairs" that all the students must compete over to "fit in" all the patients they must treat in order to attain student clinical practice requirements. Be patient and be a patient at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and do good for yourself whilst doing good for a fine group of future dentists.

I went to my dentist appointment today. I had not met the individual before. My actual dentist was not taking appointments yet so I was given a temporary person and she was amazing. She took her time, asked questions, made sure I was comfortable and wished me a good day as we walked out. I had a full cleaning nothing major but I was leery at first. Every visit my anxiety is there and when they check my vitals they are usually high. Also, students are at different levels of their craft and customer service wise you never know. Today my student dentist was a graduating student dentist, Jordan H., that I have been working with many times! He is an excellent dentist and a fabulous, friendly man! I have some special circumstances in that I wear a chrome steel appliance (partial overlay) over most of my bottom teeth so I can chew. It was made maybe 20+ years ago by a faculty practice dentist, Dr. Richard Ford. I had a filling in a lower tooth that needed replacing that is located under this appliance. Through the wit and skill of Jordan and some helpful recommendation by staff, Dr. Larson, the filling was replaced solely by Jordan. Mind you, it had to be done such that the appliance still fit over my teeth correctly! Thanks! Today my student dentist was Austin H. (younger brother of Jordan H. above). Austin is also a friendly man and an excellent dentist. He thinks things through and presents the situation to me so that I get some say in what I want to do at this time. With staff guidance, since this was Austin's first time at doing this procedure, they adjusted the clasps on the right side of my appliance so it would fit better, more like it did originally. Austin and I set up two more appointments to re-do two fillings as preventative maintenance. I couldn't be more satisfied! Emery C.

I have had an exam and two fillings so far through the UMN Dental Clinic. Rami was the main student doing the work with another student, Linda, assisting. All the work completed was inspected and approved by several different supervising dental doctors. I never felt like the work was rushed or of inferior quality unlike the Army Colonel who gave me novacaine before removing my wisdom teeth with a pliers and gave me filings that misaligned my jaw and fell out when I flossed. UMN Dental has been an affordable option for me to receive quality care without insurance and has greatly improved how I feel about my teeth. I am looking forward to returning soon for several more fillings.

It is a teaching environment so students (Very well supervised and instructed) are honing their skills and are very attentive and diligent in doing a stellar job. I have made many appearances at the dental school starting out in high school in the 70’s. I have never had a poor outcome and I have a mouthful of teeth to prove it. The time it takes to be with a student more than offsets the speed of a regular dentist with the low cost of services at the School. Five stars and a big thumbs up!

Great experience. Messed up my days and came a week early, but the receptionist was amazing managed to squeeze me in. My doctor was very professional, friendly and figured out my toothache. Prices were reasonable and going back to see the same doctor for a cleaning and cavity filled. A friend recommended the U, and I have been able to get the work done at more of a price that I could afford. Along with giving a future dentist experience as well. I have super horrible anxiety when it comes to dentists and I have found that students are far more patient and understanding than seasoned veterans. They have always been very compassionate. Be aware though the appointments are long because they take their time and have to have their work checked to make sure they did it properly but for me it is a fair trade off.

Recently I went to two appointments with a new dentist who would "yank" my head back and forth. Bedside manner is practically as important as exceptional and professional work done with a patient. It gains trust and lessens the fear so we are more calm and relaxed. So many people are afraid to go to a dentist often from bad experiences. I am grateful to have Rami working on my teeth and the U of M Dental Clinic. Also provided to me was confirmation from my UCare Insurance on what would be covered. I was well cared for today by senior student supported with faculty input. There were limitations due to covid concerns - but these were well managed. I came away feeling I was in good hands under a caring and competent environment. I look forward o my next visit - I would make one suggestion however:- I should have been wearing protective lens - I had reading glasses but open on the sides I am having slight symptoms in both eyes which I am treating successfully with eyewash.

Wow! The bad and the good..... students are slower and more tentative than experienced dentists so an appointment takes longer. But the good far outweighs the bad. The treatments are very thorough and far less than private dentists. Also, they don't try to suggest unneeded procedures to boost revenues. My previous dentist wanted me to have two root canals and crowns for two supposedly cracked molars. That was about $3,000 - $4,000 for teeth that were definitively NOT cracked and needed neither procedure. The cleaning I got here was the best ever with all stains removed. Think I am a permanent client now. Major procedures are about 1/3 less $. They take most dental insurance and MA/Medicaid. Quick appointments. Once you get a dental student you can chose to stay with the same one for as long as they are there. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

I think this place is great. Every student I've had has been social and personal. They seem like they care and don't rush through procedures. My most current dental student makes it hard not to laugh. I enjoy coming here. It does take a little longer but that's because they're being double checked by senior dentists. Made an appointment to get a second opinion at the faculty clinic and they wouldn't look at me because they said my insurance wouldn't cover it and guessed a price out of thin air. I wish they would have told me that on the phone so I didn't have to waste time going and they also never even called my insurance company. Her second opinion was to go back to the dentist I came from. I left very frustrated and still haven't gotten my teeth cleaned. Why is it so hard to just get a regular cleaning? Dillon, John, Kay, and Brian (or maybe it was Brandon) were each very patient and kind with me. The only complaint I have is that I tried to talk to the instructor about having TMJ surgery and he wasn't helpful. Maybe he doesn't do the maxillofacial surgery thing, but it would've been great to be pointed to the right person who could take care of that for me, and it felt like I wasn't. Dr. Martin was more understanding, and suggested we could look into it after my cleaning, etc., but my mother and I had been rear-ended less than two miles from my place; so I had to call to tell them I was going to be late. As a result of being late for my appointment, my fillings were done by John(?), and I didn't have Dr. Martin checking his work; it was another instructor. He didn't seem interested in helping me set up a consultation for TMJ surgery. However, I understand that it was getting on to dinnertime, and when you've been working all day, and you need a break before you go to your private-practice job. I also understand that being a student is exhausting, since I did college, too. All-in-all, great job to everyone who worked with me! I know I can be a lot to handle, especially when you're getting hungry and you need your dinner break, but y'all were very kind to me, and I apologize that I didn't get to brush and floss after breakfast, before I came in.

Absolutely amazing experience (and nobody says that about a dentist 😄). Everyone we encountered during our 3 hour visit validated our decision to choose the U of M. I have a back gound in Healthcare so I understand the process, therfore I will not complain about inability to schedule next day appointments, wait times, or insurance issues. The reception staff called me prior to my appointment and told me it would take 3 hours, so I planned for 4..and in that 3 hour time frame I visited with 2 specialist, set up a referral to see yet another specialist. Good things do come to those who wait😊. The student Dentist was very professional and handled my tears and emotions with compassion. I felt like he held my hand the entire time and made me feel as if I was his only Patient. My husband was just as impressed and very thankful we made the decision to drive over an hour one way, in which we will be doing monthly for a few months. I am very greatful for the U of M, and highly recommend the professional services they offer. If your impatient, don't understand how your insurance works, and don't like paying a few bucks for parking then the U of M isn't for you.

Note: I'm reviewing this as a patient, not a student. The dental school is just about the only place in the city that'll take my insurance. I definitely recommend to anyone on MinnesotaCare or with a tight budget. If you have a broader network or are willing/able to pay out-of-pocket, I'd recommend a more traditional clinic. A few of the drawbacks: it can take weeks to months to get in for an appointment (although they do have an urgent care clinic for emergencies, and the longest wait for that is 24-48 hours). For non-emergency appointments, they pretty much have two time slots: 9:00am or 1:00pm, so you'll have to make that work with your schedule. Because you're being seen by students, the appointments can take a few hours, but everything is double-checked by instructors so any errors can be corrected. But then sometimes students and instructors will talk about you as though you're not there. A few advantages: you're helping dental students get valuable experience on real patients, and as mentioned above, it's much cheaper than a traditional clinic. And because they're students, you'll be able to get more cutting-edge treatment options than you might at a traditional clinic. Plus, if you end up having something unusual pop up during your exam, it's more likely you'll be able to get it taken care of same-day. If you do end up going here, make sure to park in the Washington Ave ramp, because they'll offer to validate your parking when you check in and you'll save $3. Plus if it's cold or rainy, there's a tunnel connecting the ramp and Moos Tower.

I had an urgent broken tooth that needed help and she fought for me to be scheduled quickly to eliminate the pain. Imagine that! A Dentist who cares and follows up! Talked to just about the rudest receptionist I've ever encountered. Answered the phone with a simple "hello" after much fumbling around with the phone. Sounded like I woke her up from a nap. Immediately started telling me the whole drill for a new patients and wouldn't let me get a word in to tell her that I am a returning patient! I understand she probably talks to a lot of idiots on the phone everyday but if it's your job to answer the phone then you need to do it respectfully and patiently. I work in the hospitality industry and I was not impressed. HOWEVER. As far as the actual dental clinic goes, it is great. But PLEASE get friendlier people on the phone.

I've always liked the Minnesota school of dentistry because of the way they treat you as a patient. I've been going there since I was a kid and now my kid also goes there. I like the fact that they practice giving shots on each other to learn how to give shots for novocain. They're very helpful and the teachers and instructors are top of the line. It's nice to have a new dentist on a regular basis rather than the same dentist over and over again that isn't in the process of learning more every day. I would highly suggest the you then school dentistry to anyone who can attend. They do everything from braces to extractions and whitening 2 bridges. Everything you can think about at the school of dentistry is done within this one facility.

Excellent service! I switched to the U of MN Dental School several years ago after hearing of the quality of the work. Most all work is EXCELLENT! An outside dentist in Richfield made the statement: “well, the dental school and work aren’t that good.” It was asked of him later: “Where did you go to dental school?” His answer: “U of MN”, oh really? Then you must not be that good. It was affirmed to me about the quality of this dentists work. I brought my wife in for an appointment at the U of MN dental school a week after this dentist gave her a 6 month cleaning of her teeth. The 4th year dental student and two professors found her teeth were full of calcium and NOT clean. This “sealed the deal” about the dental school quality. Try it. You’ll like it. It may take longer, but in the end, the work is top quality and WAY less expensive!

I've had mixed results at the school. Since Alpine Dental wanted $1400 just to clean my teeth, I had no choice but to go to the dental school. The do a prophylaxis 3 times a year for the payment by UCare for seniors, and the cleanings have been good to excellent by senior students, and fair by juniors and staff. Not so good are the dentists, though I had two good procedures and two bad ones.

I had pre-screening xrays done back in April 2014 to have wisdom teeth removed. The pre-screening went fine. After the pre-screening I tried to schedule the surgery but they could not schedule me because the schedule wasnt released yet for the next month, I thought it was odd but figured I would call back in a couple weeks. Since then I have called 4 separate times and I received the same excuse. They say to call back in about 10 days or so. So ridiculous. Maybe I have terrible luck and I am calling at the worst times but I'm to the point where I now have to pay to get my pre-screening records so I can go to another oral surgeon. Lets hope that won't be as much of a p.i.t.a.
