I had the best experience at this dental office! Starting with the friendly front desk staff. Then the X-ray tech. Dr Mitsunaga and Leilani were gentle, kind and took the time to make sure my new crown fit perfectly! I also appreciated the tech that scanned my teeth. Also very gentle and kind. I don’t think I have ever had a better dental appointment and the fact that they got me in so quickly for a broken molar was amazing!

So far I've only been here for preventive care. All the things you expect from a dental practice: quality care and everyone is professional and friendly. Two bonuses: 1. It's very calm. The waiting room has no blaring TV, even though you won't be there long, and the exam rooms play video montages of beautiful scenery. 2. They are transparent about pricing and you will know up front what you can expect to owe for different treatment options. If you do not have dental insurance, ask about their discount plan; it may be a better deal than an individual Delta Dental plan.

The new hygienist is so thorough and has a great attitude! Dr. Lau dropped in after to take a look, at which time I was able to commend him for the many fittings and patient (both meanings intended) care. He is the best. He crafted a partial denture that needs no adhesive, stays put while eating, and has almost no food slipping under it. It is held by a good fit causing super suction and the very few teeth I have left on my upper gums. It will be a great loss when he actually re-retires! Aloha, Dr. Lau.

You get reminders of your appointments, cost estimates of your upcoming appointment so you can be prepared or ask questions if needed and the front staff is always personable and helpful. It is easy to confirm your appointment or make changes if needed. There is validated parking available.

I really can't say enough good things about this facility. I had a big day yesterday at Hawaii Family Dental. Dr. Mitsunaga is really terrific. He is funny and so easy to talk to. I love the basket in Dr. Mitsunaga's treatment room! I never know where to put my backpack when I go to the dentist, and the basket is perfect!!! I also had full x-rays taken by a lovely assistant who made the whole process bearable!!! I must applaud the excellent services of Mary Jane who did my cleaning. She is awesome! Was able to schedule an initial appointment within a week of my on-line inquiry and a follow up appointment within 2 days of the initial visit. I went see Dr. Bono after I was told that I needed implant by other emergency dentist. They wanted to make a mold and schedule extraction right there so I wanted to have my long time dentist's opinion. Dr. Bono took her time to examine my teeth, shaved my retainer and told me to wait and see. I am glad that I saw her before I made a big decision. Thank you, Dr. Bono.

The customer service from the front desk to the dental assistant and the dental surgeon to the last clerk we saw for billing was phenomenal! We were well taken care of. I asked my son how the surgeon was during the procedure (extraction of 1 wisdom tooth) and he said that he was great that he didn’t feel a thing except the pinch for the numbing. Therefore I agreed to schedule the removal of his other 3 wisdom teeth. I simply want to thank you Ms. Dee, Dr Sterling and the entire team for making this experience less stressful to both the patient, my 13 year old son (who was initially nervous and anxious before the procedure), and myself as the worried parent.

Everybody there is fast, friendly, competent and professional. Dr Sterling is absolutely amazing. He was so kind, patient and helpful and didn't get tired of explaining everything to me. He made my wisdom tooth extraction absolutely painless. He was so fast, I didn't even realize that he was already done! The numbness wore off shortly thereafter and I have been painless ever since without having to take any painkillers. Best dentist experience ever! I was really afraid and they took away all my worries before they started with the procedure. If getting a wisdom tooth pulled was fun, I would almost be looking forward to my next visit there...

Greatly appreciated Dr. Mitz for fitting me in during my dental emergency. Nothing says pain like a tooth gone bad. They fit me in the very next day and had me good as new that same day. Got fitted for a crown and in just 4 hrs later, it was good to go. Even got an opportunity to save some money per the Drs. suggestion. This is why I keep coming back for care. I want to start off by saying the staff from the front desk to the back office were superb in every way possible. My wait wasn't very long, every tech that passed by asked if I was alright or notified me that I would be called soon. They were very professional and sweet. The Dentist was super sweet and understanding, efficient and professional. From start to finish, Bright Smiles Honolulu was awesome! I felt comfortable knowing that safety protocol was in place as I was enthusiastically greeted by Chelsie at the front door and had my temperature taken. Anesthetics were applied with no issues, and the dental work I came for was completed without a hitch. Dr. Taira and her dental assistant Shar, worked together in complete harmony - saying very little to each other but moving and working as one almost as though they could read each other's minds! The results were much more than I expected, and will allow me to enjoy eating again! Absolutely the cherry on top was 70's/80's music being played in the office - something I can absolutely relate to! This place is amazing. No fuss, no upselling, no long wait. Additionally, the dental hygienist I had (Tyler) was phenomenal. I have extreme sensitivity on my bottom front teeth due to recession and he worked around it by using a combination of the water pick and metal hand tool to get me cleaned up pain free, all in under 20 minutes. Highly recommended.

Dr. Stephen's is absolutely hands down the best orthodontist. He did my braces and my oldest sons braces in Idaho and when we moved to Oahu, he just so happened to be our orthodontist to finish out my youngest son's braces. He is such a bright soul with great experience!!! Recommend him to anyone!

The team at Hawaii family Dental offers excellent service and treatment. I have been in for teeth cleaning, a root canal and a crown installment. I needed to have my crown installed before a trip and they were very efficient with their service in making sure i got everything done before then. Dr. Jessica Liu performed my root canal and Dr. Lau installed my crown. Both did an excellent job, treating me with great care throughout. Customer service is very patient and flexible when it comes to scheduling your appointment.

Just finished a consultation and wanted to share what a pleasant and informative experience it was. Summer and the other hygienist (I didn't catch her name) were both professional, fun, and very thorough and made it a positive experience right off the bat. Dr. Stevens warmth and true passion for helping others was apparent as he sat and talked to me for quite some time even after we discussed how oral surgery may be a better option. He was extremely knowledgeable, honest, and very easy to talk to. Arleen (sp?) in accounting went above and beyond by offering to reach out to different surgeons for me to gather even more information. Hawaii Family Dental's check-in process and scheduling was very easy, friendly, and clean. The temperature check upon walk-in was rather simple and unobtrusive, wait time (for a scheduled appointment) was reasonable, and all staff were courteous, professional, and efficient in handling their portion of providing care. This is a good practice with a variety of services being offered, including general dentistry, dental cleanings, and orthodontic care. I would recommend seeing the doctors and hygienists here and plan on continuing to return here for all my future dental care.

I’ve been going to Mililani HDS for years. Dr. Hall and his team are awesome at the Mililani HDS location! I went to see him for around 10 appts in a span of a few months to replace all my silver amalgam fillings to white composite fillings, get 2 porcelain crowns, & got 2 veneers. LoL! My grill had a makeover & I love the results! Dr Hall is very personable & was always attentive to ensure my experience was as comfortable & pain free as possible. The office staff Leoni & Sky are amazing too! They always make you feel welcomed & go above in beyond in helping you! If you need to get your teeth cleaned, see Cheryl or Nani. First off, I havenʻt been to the dentist in 11 years! Yikes. Luckily no new cavities, just a lot of stains and plaque. From the moment I walked in the staff is welcoming and professional, never once shaming me for the ridiculous lapse in dental checkups. The hygienist that worked on my teeth is an absolute wizard. She managed to get rid of 11 years worth of coffee stains and I walked out and could not stop smiling, although no one could see due to the Covid, masks are required. I honestly canʻt wait for my next visit, already scheduled. Not repeating the past.

Often going to the dentist can be a anxiety provoking experience, but the staff was so kind, welcoming, and assuring that my anxiety quickly disappeared. I hadn't been to my dentist in a while so I was a bit anxious in finding a new dentist. Location:They're located in downtown, which I'm not too familiar with. Long story short: I got lost. The parking structure is not in the same building as the dentist office so after I left the parking structure I got a bit turned around and couldn't find the dentist office. It took me a while to finally get to the right building but when I did arrive, the staff members were nice about my tardiness. They took some X-rays and also some pics of my teeth/mouth with an actual camera. I was surprised they were using a real camera but it was neat to see the photos of my mouth up on the screen. I had never seen what the inside of my own mouth really looked like so this was interesting. Dr. Dunn is honestly a Ray of sunshine. She's so upbeat and friendly!Afterward they took me to another room for my cleaning. The woman was very nice. Overall, I had a good experience.

I started as a patient at Dr. Tiffani Dunn's office who relocated back to the Big island. However I established excellent patient relationships with the whole office and didn't bother looking for a new dentist. Due to Covid as many other companies Dr. Dunn's old office relocated under the same facility as Hawaii Family Dental and even though the major work was with Tiffani, I have very much appreciated the service and dental care I've received. I absolutely enjoy my hygienist, she's from New York and has a great personality and provides fantastic service and it's always a bonus to see Chelsea during billing and double bonus when Rebecca knows you by voice. All wonderful, highly recommend Hawaii Family Dental!! Clean, professional and upscale!

Absolutely wonderful! Bright, clean, friendly offices. Flexible appointment times. Extremely thorough exams and consultations. Joe does an amazing deep cleaning of teeth. He is polite, careful and super knowledgeable. Everyone that I have interacted with there has been upbeat, kind and helpful. There is a cute little corner for kids to play in. Parking is right next to the door, and they validate for the whole time you are there.

I am very happy with Dr. Bono’s professional skills as my dentist! She is very thorough and is always willing to answer any of my questions. She doesn’t hesitate to refer me to other specialists if I need work done in their field of specialty such as having a root canal done or suggesting an oral surgeon to consult for a possible future implant I need. My main concern is affording cost effective work I need done and I’m happy with Dr Bono’s office assistant Evie and others that gives me a detailed description of what my insurance covers and what is my up front cost going to be. Whoever thought I’d say going to the dentist was a great experience. Not me. But it was. Great dental cleaning appointment. Shanice was amazing: friendly, attentive, professional, efficient, and clear. You recognize great service when they answer your questions before you ask them. The front desk staff was amazing too. COVID standards are seamless: just take a pre-cleaned clipboard/clean pen, take temperature at desk with forehead scanner, write temperature on form and complete the form. Where do i begin? First of all, i want to acknowledge the welcoming professionalism on the day of my appointment. Now, with the Covid19 crisis going on, the team were prepared with valid questions, mask requirements & temperature checks upon entering. I walked into a clean office with social distancing chair positions that honored people's health and space; and, the front office workers were friendly and accommodating...this was ONLY the start. They were prompt with my appointment, not waiting around a long time to be seen. The dental assistant escorted me to the dental room and proceeded to make me feel comfortable and at ease with the "not looked forward to" procedure (tooth extraction) ahead by explaining that this was done on a daily basis, the dentist was more than capable and i had nothing to worry about. Also, heard me out with any concerns i had or medical conditions prior before the dentist entered. They were both very personable and explained what was happening at each step, what to look out for and how to care for the wound afterwards. First time at this branch and it was a great experience. Had my wisdom removed here at the waterfront location. Dr. Abraham and his assistant was very informative of the procedure and everything went smoothly with the extraction. I was given a couple local anesthetic injections which seems painful but Dr. Abraham let the numbing cream sit for a while before giving the first round of shots which I did not feel a thing. Then he let those injections sit for awhile until the next round of shots, which was painless as well. Come time for the extraction all went well, they got it out, I felt zero pain, it was quick. After it was done, he had me stay a bit to monitor the bleeding. After reevaluating the bleeding I was ready to leave, Dr. Abraham gave detailed instructions of aftercare and scheduled a follow up appointment. As a first-timer it was fantastic. I’ve had a few teeth pulled before coming here which were a bit traumatic with the painful injections and being awake for it all so I was a bit hesitant to do another one... but it wasn’t as close to the painless extraction that I received from Dr. Abraham and his assistant . Great people here! Thank you!

This was my third cleaning at HFD. The first was at the Bishop Street office. The hygienist and dentist were both excellent. For convenience of parking I switched to the Waterfront office for my next two visits. The second cleaning was not a nice experience. The hygienist (I think her name was Dawn, you seem to get someone different every time) was quite rough in her work and her "chair side" manner left a lot to be desired. She had the attitude that I needed to do better with my home care so she wouldn't have to work so hard. My mouth felt really worked over by the time it was finished. Whereas the first and third hygienist (each different people) were much more gentle in their touch and very complimentary. They encouraged me to "keep doing what you are doing because your teeth and gums look great." If I could schedule the last hygienist every time I would have given 5 stars, but she said she just fills in when they are shorthanded.

Went in for wisdom tooth pain (not sure what i expected). I know theres not much they can do and i have no insurance but i was in pain and panicked. Got charged $300 just for one xray and to have a dentist tell me “you should probably get them removed sometime soon”. That was it. $300 down the drain. Signed up for their $200 a year discount plan which gives 60% off every procedure. It came out to being only $100 more with the discount applied but I feel like I wont be going back because they are so expensive! Even with the discount its just crazy. Waste money

I have no problem with the Doctor or the Hygienist, they do very good work. I am pleased with their performance. I do feel the company needs to step up their game on being on time with appointments. It is not that the time is extremely excessive past the appointment time, its more the attitude towards the patient by the company. I am continuously bomb barded about it will cost me $100.00 if I miss my appointment. I am reminded when the appointment is made, then by 2 to 3 e-mails. I understand this is a necessity in a case to charge this fee if you do not cancel in an appropriate time, but once is enough. I then get aggravated when I show up early before my appointment and then have to wait 15 to 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Can I charge the company a $100.00 if they are not on time. Double standards do not sit well with me. Then its not fair to the doctor or the hygienist that my mood is now not up beat. Who likes going to the dentist in the first place.

When I first heard that my new dentist Dr. Dunn was moving to an office downtown, I thought "Oh no! The parking will be a nightmare!" But my wife and I gave it a try on our next appointment. Turned out the parking was surprisingly easy with validation at Harbor Court and a short walk to that beautiful 1920's era Dillingham Transportation Building. Once in the office we found a recently remodeled interior, the newest equipment, and every member of the staff to be friendly, upbeat, and very knowledgeable. Having been to dentists throughout O‘ahu and on the mainland, this has got to be the single best experience as dental patients that we have ever had. I can only compare this to flying first-class! No one expects a trip to the dentist to be enjoyable, but Dr. Dunn and Rebecca have done just that!

Hawaii Family Dental is such an improvement on my previous providers. I feel very comfortable with the hygienists, my kind dentist, Dr. Mitsunaga, my Invisalign Orthodontist, Dr. Stevens, and wonderful staff. I have regular care and now have insurance, but Hawaii Family Dental helped me afford dental care earlier on with their own plan. Dr. M. is concerned about my general health and lets me know of any issues he suspects, even warning me that my future retainers may not fit if I get a new crown on a tooth. HDS is a great help too, so I have no worries about my dental health.

Went to the dentist for an overall deep cleaning. I had started the deep cleaning with very bad receded gums and they are healing "attaching" nicely. This time the experience wasn't painful, as they had taken measures to prescribe toothpaste that would desensitize my teeth. The staff is very helpful and takes a lot of time to explain everything. Even with the Covid-19 protocols, Staff was well organized with check in the elevator lobby. Lots more people than expected, but social distances maintained, everyone had masks on,.severak sanitizer stations & plexiglass barriers at the cashiers/appointment booths. . Had a routine teeth cleaning with an excellent hygienist, but no finish polishing allowed. Then my dentist came for a quick follow up to a recent visit a month ago. This is both a hard and easy review to give. It takes retrospect though to understand. I started going down to Restaurant Row to get consultation about implants or even pulling all my teeth and getting plates. The doc assured me that neither of those methods would be good for me right now. My age being a factor. That in 20-30 yrs, if that is the way I still want to go, then, that can be on the table, but as of now, I have too many healthy teeth and what has been damaged can be fixed. The assessment was an aggressive treatment plan that would have me up and operational with others little the wiser in less than two months. All is done now, and I can honestly say, every visit was very professional and comforting. The amount of detail put into my teeth and smile, amazing.

My appointment was with DDS Alan Mitsunaga. He led me back to his treatment room, and introduced himself as "Alan Mitsunaga" which impressed me right away. Most physicians/dentists introduce themselves as "doctor". I, of course, know they're a doctor and that's why I'm there to see them; nevertheless they like to remind me so I don't get them confused with the janitor. The point being that DDS Matsunaga is a real gentleman and feels no need to remind his patients of his professional position. His exam, though brief, was gentle which I really appreciated. He gave me a lot of information in an effort to direct me to the best possible treatment for my teeth, most of which was outside his area of expertise. I would recommend DDS Alan Matsunaga in large part due to his demeanor. When a person in the medical profession is as kind and thoughtful as he is you know you're going to be in good hands. This appointment was for teeth cleaning, X-rays and Dentist exam. I have had Daylynn (sp?) as my hygienists since I started coming to Hawaii Family Dental. She has always been great, no concerns or issues. Dr.Mitzunaga is a new Dr for me, this was the 2nd time. He was pleasant, but seems in a hurry. Showed me my X-rays trying to explain where he saw potential issues. Suggested we could take conservative approach (wait & See) or aggressive approach and pix potential issues (root canal, cavities) The old Root Canal has not bothered me, he said some irregular shading in X-rays may indicate a problem. The others were potential cavities, which I did not have once he did visual exam. OK to come back in 6 months. He was in a hurry to leave and said he'd finish his notes in my file later.. Sorry I forget my former Dr.'s name, I liked him, his manner and approach. Would it be possible to change Doctor's for when I return, April 2, 2018? The hygienist was great (Janet). Super thorough and professional. On the other hand, I had a crown done by Dr Hearon. Terrible work! My temporary filling came out 3 times in a 2 week period for not choosing the right procedure. And to add a cherry of top- when my permanent filling finally arrived, It lasted less than a week ! My nerve exposed and felt excruciating pain each time the filling came out. Thank god I was appointed to see Dr Sue and he took charge of the situation. I could feel the work done properly, each step done mindfully and with skill of a true professional: total opposite as the mediocre treatment I initially received. So yes, I recommend HFDC for hygiene and for dental work make sure to choose your doctor.

Five stars for my experience in the orthodontist area of HFDC!! This location is very easy to find. (I've received treatment at two locations so far.). Once you get into the parking structure, just go to the 2nd floor and park near the exit. I was there for my braces install and was taken back for x-rays prior to that portion of my visit. It is a very relaxing atmosphere and I commented that I could totally take a nap there. The office wasn't intimidating at all. My doctor is Dr. Hoshino and he is amazing, as I've said in another review. He is really funny and engaging as well as gentle. He gave me a funny, but useful and practical suggestion of how to watch him install my brackets. Haha. I'll let you experience that for yourself. The hygienist was super quick with installing the wire and while it was very intense, it wasn't actually painful. I highly recommend this location and HFDC in general!

i came into the Hawaii Family Dental Center in Hilo recently b/c i changed to an HMO insurance, and this was my only choice. the dentists are great, i really like them. i had to have major work done immediately on 3 teeth. they got me in pretty quickly, considering it was the holidays. the staff is excellent, all are very gentle and considerate of my needs, respectful of my wishes. the dentists are very attentive, even after the work (have had a running email convo w the oral surgeon after a root canal and an extraction). i had to go back 2x for followups that were due to pain, so they fit me in, and i never, ever have waited more that 5-10 min to get into a chair. the dentist shows up within a few minutes. very different than the other dental services i used on the big island, where the wait can be typically 20 min -45 min.the only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is b/c for 1 week they had only 1 dentist to take care of everybody. and really, i blame the health insurance for only having 1 place in hilo that all the hmo patients can go. 2nd review: i went from 4 to 5 stars, cuz i am so pleased with this dental practice. i went back to get prepped for a crown yesterday, 1 1/2 hours being worked on, and i have never felt this relaxed in a dentist's chair in my 63 yrs of life. i used to think i had a true phobia, would feel completely nerve-wracked and would put off going to the dentist for 2-3 years. (i do not recommend it, probably why i have so much i need now). that is all gone. i actually look forward to my visits, and, once again, was not kept waiting at all, even tho i arrived early. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I don't think the management gives the staff of HFDC enough credit. I've been going to HFDC for well over 15 years, and it saddens me that in the last year, the staff at the Restaurant Row has turned over so many times that it no longer has that "family dentist" feeling anymore. I used to be able to walk in and the front desk always knew who I was. Now I walk in, and the girls, while friendly, don't know me and are always different each time I visit. I'm lucky enough that my Dentist and Dental Hygienist are still there, but am always fearful that the day will come that I'll be told that I need to schedule my check up and cleanings with someone else. With that being said, I'm lucky that I still have Dr. Glenn Takaki and Dental Hygienist Mary Jane to take care of me and my pearly whites. It takes a lot of trust to let someone prod away in your mouth with a drill or attack your gums with floss, but these two can do whatever they want to me and I won't even blink, I trust them that much. I might grumble at them (well, around their fingers) when the numbing wears off or that damn tooth scraper hits a tender spot, but they make me laugh every single time I visit them, and they're the friendly faces I look forward to seeing every 6 months. When I'm with Dr. Takaki and MJ, I don't feel like I'm in a dentist chair being tortured. I feel like I'm in a dentist chair with friends who I'm going to grab a drink with afterwards.

Dr. William Sicilia performed a filling on a tooth that bothered me about once a year. Very informative throughout the process. He was not sure how extensive the damage was and warned me that it may need a root canal. It didn't. I selected the composite filling, instead of the silver/mercury mix. He told me that silver/mercury mixture is safe, even if swallowed....I find that hard to believe. The most important part - William has mad skill in giving shots! I told him that my old dentist, who was a dentist for a better part of four decades, in California was the very best at it. The other young dentist I had at this office was relatively skilled. Dr Sicilia is very impressive! At the beginning of his career, his skill at giving shots matched those of a forty year veteran! Parents - this is the dentist to take your children to! Dental work should not be traumatic and having compassionate, skilled practitioner who does not cause pain at the beginning of a treatment is 95% of it. Good work Dr. Sicilia! Keep it up!

You get an honest opinion if you have several options to choose for a procedure. Because all specialists share one office, there is no competition or bias opinions between them for the "job". The money all goes in the same "pot" at the end of the day. I recommend this type of clinic for everyone. Most important, all staff incl. office staff, dentists, and dental hygienists are extremely skilled and kind. I have Laura as my dental hygienist. She is a "gem" and would recommend her!
