From start to finish - first class service. Rose at the front desk helped book me in seamlessly and got a reminder to me just in time and at the end scheduled my next appointment without a hiccup. Julia helped me better understand how to maintain the smile my parents went through so much trouble to develop, completed my x rays and performed a painless cleaning reestablishing a perfect smile (at least as perfect as mine gets). Dr Char finished the visit with a thorough exam and a detailed review of the work done during the day. When all was said and done I left having one of the best experiences at a dental office on record. Well done guys!

I love my hygenist! Extremely personable and relatable. She's not just some "pro" who cleans and examines my teeth, she does give constructive feedback but also makes the experience pleasant. that's important because I've had dentists in the past before who "did their job" and were lousy in their bedside manners. Trust me, it does make a difference.

I visited Dr. Char’s office today and was going in for a consultation about a tooth. We ended up pulling it the same day which I was happy about because it was giving me a lot of pain. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the office was the cleanliness as well as the professionalism of each staff member. They were kind and helpful. As Dr. Char and I discussed the options regarding my tooth extraction, I was impressed with how informative he and his assistant were. I asked many questions and they were patient and happily answered each one. At one point, I asked his assistant which toothbrushes, toothpastes, and flossers she recommended. She was eager to inform me and I got a mini lesson in brushing and flossing properly. (Which was great!) I also appreciated how Dr. Char explained the procedure step by step before performing it, stopping along the way to ask if I had any questions. He and his staff helped me feel comfortable and treated me with aloha. The extraction itself went smoothly and overall, I definitely recommend Char Dental.

Dr. Char and his staff were attentive to my special needs. My tooth infection and need for extraction or root canal were confirmed through digital x-ray. However, I am in the middle of chemotherapy and Dr. Char is coordinating with my oncologist how to proceed so I get the most effective care to resolve my health issues.

Char Dental is located on the 4th floor of the One Kapiolani Building. There is a private lot that usually has plenty of parking for customers. You do have to get a parking ticket from the attendant but you can get it validated before you leave. The office itself is very welcoming and relaxing. There are comfy chairs in the lobby as you wait for your appointment. Honestly, everyone in the office is so nice and incredibly friendly! Julia did my teeth cleaning and was very knowledgeable. She was able to explain everything that was going on during my appointment and give me extra specific details regarding my own teeth and dental health. Dr. Char finished up my appointment by reviewing all of my dental records and made realistic recommendations to help me take care of my teeth. I have to say, after not having been to a dentist in years, not once person scolded or shamed me for waiting so long to see a professional for dental care which was so refreshing! Seriously, if you need an appointment no matter how long it has been, call them today and they will do their best to accommodate you!

Dr. Edmund Char, DDS I’ve been Dr. Char’s patient for about 20 years, starting with his predecessor firm, Dr. Bob Gibson DDS, about thirty-five years ago, my first dentist in Honolulu, (his father was one of the first in Hawaii, I’m told), so he must be doing something right. ••• I inherited from Dr. Bob my relationship with my platinum-standard dental hygienist of many years, Devi Krieg, now sadly moving to the Dakotas to be nearer to her daughter, and I also was able to continue enjoying the skills of office manager Rose, a wizard with navigating the complex and ever changing dental insurance coverage rules, who is under recognized but brings an essential skill to the table. ••• Inherited healthcare providers aren’t always a good fit, and I stayed on with Dr. Char due to his being adept in traditional dental skills but also his keeping up with dental technology, such as the ability to make and install crowns in one appointment by digital oral scanning and computer assisted machine shaping of a composite ceramic material, matching your tooth color precisely and as durable as porcelain but then eliminating the need to have plastic temporaries which would require a second appointment. ••• It has been a very challenging time for healthcare professionals of all kinds and these days many of mine, even those much younger than I, have been retiring at an alarming rate, but due to the close quarters of performing the work, probably none more so than dental practitioners. It’s something we take for granted until there’s a problem (and for me it usually happened at 30,000 feet on my way to SouthEast Asia or the US mainland) but these days it’s being revealed how essential it is to be working with somebody really responsible and accomplished. And Dr. Char and those in his office are a small group of the very few in Honolulu who have, over a long time, demonstrated their expertise to me.

When required treatment is greater than my insurance will cover, Rose has worked with me to find payment options. And I’m always sent home with a goodie bag of dental cleaning supplies and samples.

Dr. Edmund Char is the best dentist I've ever had in my entire life. PERIOD. As an adult with problematic teeth, I've had many, many occasions to stop in his offices as a customer and so I speak from a great deal of personal experience here. His dental work and office staff is always superbly professional, courteous, and efficient. He has a very sharp eye for dental aesthetics that look great. He and his office manager Rose are meticulous and they always work to get the very best results for their customers. My crowns and my implant are better than the original teeth they replaced and I had previously had coffee stains on my teeth that my previous dentist wouldn't even clean off. He went in on my very first visit as a customer and took out at least 20 years of stains from drinking coffee. My teeth and smile never looked better. I felt so strongly that I had my wife immediately switch her dentist to him too. I WON'T consider any other dentist for my ohana besides him. We're truly blessed to be patients there.

Hands down, the best dentist & staff!! I've been seeing Dr Char for over 10 years & there's no wait time, they're so efficient, personable & friendly. I always appreciate the oral care "tips" as they help you to focus on specific areas that could use extra attention, so you can optimize your overall health & maintain excellent oral hygiene at home (I may miss a spot sometimes). The office is well maintained, immaculate. They offer free parking with validation. Easy to schedule appointments, Dr Char will spend the extra time to assess any personal concerns & explains it clearly. I've had other dentists in the past that don't really express much concerns, long waits & are not thorough, but I will drive 40 min to Dr Char's office...I leave feeling like family, they are truly the BEST!!

This is my first review ever. I just had to because Dr. Char and his team are professional, reliable, and provide excellent dental service. I woke up Friday morning with a cracked tooth. I clench and grind my teeth and my back molar finally cracked. I was able to call Friday afternoon and get in Monday. I went online and read their Covid-19 form and was ready for my appointment. The lobby is clean and everyone is following CDC rules. Upon arrival they give you hand sanitizer and check your temperature. This gives me peace of mind that everyone that enters the room has healthy symptoms. I felt completely safe taking off my mask. On Monday, Dr. Char made fast logical decisions about my tooth. I was able to go home with a temporary that was extremely comfortable. I was able to make an appointment for the very next day to get a crown. Today, Tuesday I arrived for my next appointment. After following all safety procedures again, Dr. Char and his team started work on my tooth. Dr. Char explained everything to me and always makes me feel so comfortable. Remembering my children, being aware of my past visits, and asking about my family. I have a very sensitive bite, Dr. Char was able to explain to me why (which I 100% agree), so any dental work that gets done I usually feel for days after. However, this time was amazing. I have no unnecessary after pain, my bite is spot on, and I was able to eat once the numbing went away. I was able to get a permanent crown in just one visit. From past dentists I usually have to go back because of my bite but not this time! This is the first time Dr. Char made a crown for me and it was perfect, no complications and it looks so nice! A bonus is that the parking is easy and safe, which is a luxury for Honolulu. Just remember your license plate number.

I saw Dr. Char today for emergency. I don't normally go to him but being that he's the nearest one to my work that I could get to and despite the fact that they were fully booked for the day, he still accommodated me. He did a thorough examination of the issue and really took his time with it. I really like that he showed me x-rays and photos and explained everything. My usual dentist don't do that at all and I always feel rushed. Dr. Char referred me to a specialist and got me a same day appointment. With all that care, my tooth issue was resolved and I'm very happy with the result and his service. His staff were all awesome too.

He worked on my teeth till around 8 pm. What a relief as I couldn’t imagine going to work the next day and trying to hide my chipped tooth. The entire staff are exceptional in helping me with my severe dry month. Sue Ann and Luana tell me about the latest products for dry mouth and give me samples to try as well as coupons. During treatments, they monitor the dryness and keep my mouth moist. Jill, the dental hygienist has a gentle touch and educates and demonstrates the best way to clean my teeth. She told me why it’s important to floss and use a dental pick for problematic areas with gaps in my teeth. Rose works hard to coordinate my appointments with my insurance coverage. She accommodates my requests for changes in appointment times and calls as soon as a more convenient time opens up. If she cannot answer my question about insurance, she researches then gets back to me right away. Dr. Char is very smart and creative. He figures out various options and clearly explains pros and cons. He uses state of the art equipment and does impressive professional work. RJ On 02/01/2022 I went back for my six month follow up with Sueanna, it was much easier than last time because of having a much cleaner "yuk mouth", thanks Sueanna. She is an expert in dentistry and addressed my needs and fears! She gave me a new toothbrush, so I do not have to use my free airplane toothbrush and gave me advise to consider the Oral B electric toothbrush. Wow is all I can say! While on vacation in Hawaii I had broken tooth and called Dr. Char and his team. They got me in right away and were amazing in helping get me a new crown the same day! I was having quite some trouble with a wisdom tooth during our holiday on Hawaii. After two days on pain killers I checked google for a dentist recommendation. I was lucky to get an appointment at Dr. Char the same day. The staff as well as the doc himself was very friendly and kind. They also know what they're doing and although a dentist is someone you want to establish trust over time, I did so after only a few minutes. After all the options he proposed, I decided for an extraction and so he pulled out the tooth and he did great so, since he therewith also took away the pain. Thanks for saving my holiday!

Dr Char, and his assistants...Jill, and Rose were very courteous and professional, as always. They did an outstanding job as usual BUT I was disappointed that this dentistry Only performs WHITE COMPOSITE FILLINGS.....no SILVER FILLINGS! Unfortunately, HDS dental plans do not cover white composite fillings for the back teeth. Their cost is limited to the equivalent cost of the cheaper silver fillings. I was quoted around $400 total for white composite filling for a back of the mouth tooth cavity, of which my 70% share would be about $300. If it were available, a Silver Filling would have only cost $100, of which my 70% share would only had been a mere $70. The silver filling would not have been noticeable because it is in the back area of my mouth. So, reluctantly, I have to consider switching over to another dentistry that offers both types of fillings for me to have the option to choose. Being retired forces me and my wife to be careful with our expenses.
