The new patient forms online were short and easy to submit making my first check-in a breeze. I was called back very quickly, the staff was all incredibly nice and friendly, and they did a very thorough job cleaning my teeth. I’m really glad they were recommended to me for my dental needs, and will definitely be back every 6 months for my regular cleanings, along with any other needs that may come up in the future.

Excellent experience - the best doctor and hygienist I’ve ever had 😀 They have the highest level of technology and machines and know how to use them. They also are totally organized and waste no time in getting to see you and analyzing your problems. When you have any emergencies they will see you immediately which is very impressive. I was given an appointment less than 24 hours after I called. When arriving I was greeted warmly, and within minutes I was escorted to a room where a very friendly and humorous dental hygienist took bite-wing X-rays and proceeded to do a thorough job of cleaning. When I made the appointment, I mentioned that a week earlier I’d lost a small porcelain filling in tooth #11. When Dr. Drayton Smith came into the room to check the X-rays, he looked at tooth #11 and said he had time to repair the defect. I was brought into another room and the work proceeded. It was painless, and I enjoyed being with Dr. Smith and his assistant. They were finished in an hour, and I went home very happy! A highly recommended dental practice!

Always a pleasure getting my teeth cleaned, at Southern Dental. Elizabeth was gentle, fast, and gave me a very thorough cleaning. I love Dr. Maddox. I've unfortunately had a lot of work done and I have never had to go back for minor fixes with him like I've had to with every other dentist. This was my first visit to Southern Dental. My stepson had referred me. Regrettably I had put off having my teeth cleaned for over 2 years. Megan was my hygienist & I was really impressed at how gentle she was cleaning my teeth. I never felt her gouge into my gums which I very much appreciated. The dentist explained that I had one cavity under a crown that needed to be addressed. Everyone I came in contact with was very professional & pleasant. I very much enjoyed the overall experience!

These guys are legit. They have a great organization and literally - great organization. In short, they are well run and super friendly people. The organization is professional, efficient and absolutely easy to work with. The costs are in line with other organizations their size and seem to have the working process down to a science a bit better than others I had used in the New Orleans area before moving back here. The one other dental clinic I have used in the Birmingham Area when I moved up here was super pleasant to work with but only had one dentist on staff. These guys have multiple and last check it was three. I like that as well. I would highly recommend this group. I feel they are a Top Tier group for sure. Hard to find better in my opinion. Very helpful on the phone setting up my appointment and working me into their busy schedule as a gold crown had come off. I am from out of the area and they worked me in on a day that I was going to be in Birmingham. Greeted promptly and filled out a few forms and within minutes they called me back. Technician was very friendly and knowledgeable. Had me all prepped and ready for Dr. Maddox. Dr. Maddox was so nice and concerned about my situation. Asked lots of questions to insure that he was providing me with the proper care. He got it back on immediately and then came back and checked after I got cleaned up and boom, I was gone. BEST visit to a dentist EVER. My wife and I decided to use Dr. Maddox and his wonderful staff as our regular dentist even though we live 2 hours away. We are looking forward to our next visits which will be for our regular cleaning and x rays. The lady at the counter even told us about a great plan they have to help us save money on our dental care. What a great place!!!

Was scheduled for a cleaning but the Friday before my crown came loose from caramel candy I was eating. Left a message at the office. They called me Monday to come in one hour earlier so they could cement the crown back. Got the crown and the cleaning done quickly! Been coming here for over 30 years, and they have always been the best!! Highly recommend them!

My first time here was made necessary because I broke a tooth. The solution was a crown, which was done quickly. Those things are never cheap, but they have an in-house program to help with expenses. $295/year. I have been back several times, and it's always been great. They had me back for another emergency broken tooth (this time with insurance!) and Dr Maddox did the least amount necessary to repair the problem. Very efficient and very safe, even during this corona virus. Pleasant experience . I need to add .. Elizabeth is the BEST dental assistant I have ever had! She is gentle, yet thorough. I have sensitive teeth, so I really appreciate that.

I have never met someone as delightful as Elizabeth. The office staff are all wonderful as well. Everyone welcomes you with open arms. Even during covid they’re doing everything they can to ensure patients are comfortable and safe. Temperature checks in place, masks required, pens and credit cards are being sanitized. The offices are clean and quiet. Feels very safe and confidential. Each service performed has been very well described and has gone as planned. The time scheduled has been right on; the planning is much appreciated especially with my busy schedule. Even during my procedures each step was talked through and I was checked on to ensure I was comfortable and not in any pain. The level of concern for my comfort is unlike Ive experienced before. That extra step makes you feel important. The team is clearly doing something right because they’re scheduling a lot of patients. But please be patient with them, your visit is worth any wait you may encounter. I am so thankful to have found a provider that genuinely cares for their patients and will go the extra steps to take best care of them. Would highly recommend! (Don’t forget to ask for Elizabeth- she is AMAZING)!

I chipped a filling the night before, ended up being the filling and part of the tooth. And they were willing to see me the next day. It was a Thursday and all the dentist normally Leave early, right after lunch, they had one that was willing to stay and see me and put a crown on got there about 12:45 was out of there by 2:30. Great people and had a great time. Would highly recommend it definitely worth the drive.

I had a little problem of bleeding gums pop up and I called & got worked in that morning! Protocols for COVID were followed precisely, and I felt comfortable the whole time. Got a quick x-ray & they determined that I need to be scheduled for a deep cleaning....as expected. I haven't been to the dentist in 2 years because of Covid and my crazy work schedule. They called me about a cancelation and I was happy to oblige. Masks are worn throughout the office. All equipment was wrapped in plastic for easy cleaning. The room was slightly cold so a blanket would have been nice. But I didn't ask for one. Southern Dental always makes me feel welcome. They work around my schedule

We just moved to Bham and this was my first time to go to a new dentist in years. I did a lot of research and chose Southern Dental. You can't imagine how hard it is for me to choose a dentist, I'm one of those that have teeth falling-out dreams frequently and am so OCD when it comes to my teeth. This was huge! The office staff is warm and efficient, huge plus. They got me back quickly and I got with the hygienist. She did a great job with the cleaning and x-rays were comfortable, for me the worst part of the whole cleaning is the X-ray cardboard in my mouth, but it wasn't painful at all and quick. I met the dentist (Dr. Maddox), and I was so skeptical, because I've used the same dentist for so long, but he was TERRIFIC. Super thorough and knowledgeable. I had a small cavity, I don't like getting shots, I asked if he would do the filling without Novocain, he asked if I had done that before, I told him I had and he said he would. Got the cavity filled, he was AMAZING, steady hand, checked in to make sure I was ok while he was drilling and finished up quickly. There isn't any evidence of composite and it feels great! I'm really glad I chose Southern Dental. I highly recommend the practice and Dr. Maddox.

Dr. Drayton Smith is the best Dentist I have ever known. I am in my 70's and have been to several dentists and clinics in my lifetime. Several years ago, I had given up finding a Dentist I could trust but Dr. Smith did the research to find out what to do to solve my problems with a bad bridge and bone loss. Dr. Smith not only solved my problems but made my teeth look great, gums great, pain gone, and did it gently, efficiently and was very reasonable. I went in for a new crown on a cracked tooth. I was looking forward to having my new crown without the necessity of a temporary crown and returning two weeks or more later to have the permanent crown installed. I was very impressed with the process. After Dr. Maddox deadened my mouth and drilled out the tooth, Jan took laser measurements to use to build the crown. After that process, the crown was built, adjusted, and permanently placed in my mouth. All this was accomplished in less than 2 hours! Southern Dental is a great place for any dental work, and I recommend them highly.

I came to Dr. Drayton Smith because I was so tired of going to dentists who suggested treatments and procedures I really didn't need. For instance, I needed veneers on two front teeth and my last dentist told me it wasn't possible to just install two - I would have to have six done. Six! When I came to Dr. Smith, he said it was crazy to make six veneers when you only needed two. He handled the two veneers and I have had them now for several years and they are great. Things such as this are why I will always use Dr. Smith as long as I need dental work.
