Super busy but well worth the wait! Ally...YOU ARE AMAZING and THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!! The care, patience, knowledge, and making sure I understood what was happening was the highlight of my visit. Ally went above and beyond exhibiting AMAZING patient care! Dr. Taylor was great and super thorough! He made sure I understood the process and treatment, and made sure to answer any of my questions with patience; when I say they were busy, they were BUSY! So for Dr. Taylor to come in and not rush through my visit really left a lasting impression on me. You can tell he really cares about each patient he encounters! The ladies at the front desk greets you with kindness and professionalism during check in and check out; this made the wait time less of a wait. I see why this place has been in business for over 30 years and have so many great reviews. I highly recommend this office for general dental needs!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Swicord and all of the staff. They are friendly, helpful and I feel that they genuinely care about my well being. There is a positive vibe in the air from everyone and it feels like one big happy family... plus they are open 7 days a week!

I used to hate getting my teeth cleaned, now I look forward to it! Nikki is fantastic and super gentle, but somehow removed all my coffee stains. If you have sensitive gums definitely ask for Nikki. I have been coming here for years. The service is always good and the newly renovated office is beyond awesome. 10/10 would recommend.

A family member sent me here for emergency care. Everyone is pleasant and supportive throughout the entire process....TOP NOTCH! Becky, Asst. and Dr. Seal are absolutely awesome in their demeanor and work ethics. They both advised me of every single step as they worked through the procedure. I had a toothache for about two-three weeks. With my job it was hard for me to go during the week. I started having pain on Friday but couldn’t get to a dental office in time. Started searching on the internet found a few but honestly the reason I chose Birmingham Family Dental was because of the reviews. I completed online appointment request the receptionist called me early Saturday morning and asked when I wanted to come? I said now she said come on we will see you when you get here. Got there wait time wasn’t bad considering I was a walk-in. I patiently waited on those who had scheduled appointments. Once I got called back, I got my X-rays waited maybe another 10 minutes Dr came in numbed me up (shots) and then proceeded. The process was so fast I didn’t even know he had pulled out my tooth. I looked at him shockingly like you’re done already lol 😮. DMD Wes was so pleasant, the assistants, and the front desk staff made my visit pleasant. Definitely recommend, we are grateful to have a dentist office open in the Birmingham area 7 days a week. I went in with an abscessed tooth that my regular dentist wouldn’t touch. I went in had an X-ray and had a root canal all on the same day. My insurance was accepted and I was on my way for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend

I would definitely recommend Birmingham Family Dental. I was referred by a different dentist and I drove about 75 miles to get there, I'm glad I did. Everyone, from the front desk, hygienist, and dentist made me feel more comfortable than I ever have felt in a dentist's office.

ROOT CANAL VISITS. (12/7/22) Everyone here was nice!! For any future visits, I'd rather not utilize any student hygienist for advanced procedures. The student was very polite; however, she did not appear to be confident. This, in turn, made me very uneasy during this process because certain things were not explained. During this visit, there was an excess amount of temporary cement/glue used which spilled onto my gum. My temporary crown was too big and I endured the discomfort and the film of glue for 2 wks. I felt terrible especially after paying so much out of pocket for services. 2nd Visit: I was assisted by Dr. Tran who was GREAT!!. When my permanent crown returned from the lab, it did not fit due to irritation of my gums from cement. Even after removal of the tissue, the crown still did not fit. I was then advised that it would be best to come back to get new impressions sent to the lab for another properly fitting crown. Doing so, would prevent any problems with crown placement in the future. This was very frustrating considering I'd have to take off work again for another appointment. 3rd Visit: On my visit today with Dr. Taylor, I was told that the same crown, that did not fit initially, now fits and there are no spaces present. The visit was quick. I voiced concern to Dr. Taylor regarding being advised to get new impressions sent for a new crown, and that I was worried about the potential problems that was previously explained to me by Dr. Tran. Dr. Taylor was great and reassured me that the crown fit well. Hopefully everything goes well... That is all.

I truly hate the dentist! But this dentist office is different they were so gentle and caring from the minute I walked threw the door with a severe toothache! I went as a walk in at 9am I was back on the interstate feeling much better by 10:20! Yes I would highly recommend them to anybody!

I will yell to the top of my lungs for y'all to go here for your dentistry needs. Ok so I had the worst wisdom tooth pain ever, to where pain was shooting to my ears and I could not think straight to do my job. My wisdom tooth was cracked and I needed to get it out IMMEDIATELY because the pain was unbearable. I called all over and most dentists offices said it would be a few days before I could be scheduled. I called Birmingham Family Dental and they told me to come the same day. Of course when I got there I had to wait for about an hour because I was a walk in. But let me tell you I was veryyyyyy nervous because they do not sedate you to pull a tooth and I was told my tooth was on a nerve that could cause a lot of pain. I shed a couple of tears and told the dentist and assistants please do not let me feel a thing. Y'all... Dr. Cordero numbed my gums with gel, stuck the needle in my gums and wiggled my jaw, I couldn't feel a thing. He pulled my tooth out in 2 seconds. I'm writing this 3 days later, I have not felt any pain whatsoever! No medication needed. I was able to talk and drive the same day. I wish i would have gotten all 4 taken out instead of just one if I would've known it was that easy and painless.

I had a really bad toothache Friday night. I did not get any sleep, it was throbbing and painful. I ran across this dentist when I begin looking up dental places open on the weekend. I got there at 10:03, I only waited an hour. They were really fast about getting the patients in and out. From the front desk to the dental assistant and the doctor. They fixed my issue and I was out in no time. Super nice and wonderful people. Thank you to Caitlyn (amazing dental assistant) who made me feel very welcomed and at ease doing through my entire visit and thank you Dr. Crowley for knowing exactly what the problem was. You as well made my visit comfortable and not painful. Dr Crowley explained step by step what she was doing & I can't thank her enough. This will be my dentist from now on.

I don't normally write reviews but because of my experience on Friday I had to. I had an appointment on Friday and was very nervous as usual. My hygienist was this young lady named Ashley. she was very professional, friendly and understanding about my nervousness. Ashley said DON'T WORRY I UNDERSTAND. So she became to clean my teeth. WOW!! I was amazed at her gentleness yet thorough cleaning of my teeth. When I say no pain or discomfort, I mean just that. She told me everything she was doing before she did it. She made me feel relax and she talked and I even laugh. I have been coming here for years and I have had very nice hygienist, but ASHLEY is the CREAM OF THE CROP . I only wish she was available for all my cleanings. ASHLEY YOU ARE AWESOME!!! THANKS FOR THE GREAT EXPERIENCE !

Back in 2020 I had a dental emergency. A tooth broke off (due to infection my current dentist had missed) and a bridge had come loose. It was very possible that I was going to leave in dentures. I have had a long, horrid road with my oral health. But after a half day's work (as a walk in) I left without dentures. I'm so grateful. In 2022, I needed more work and left with the same results. I would also like to note that it was not assumed that all my dental work was my own doing. Everywhere else I have been, it has been assumed and voiced that I simply didn't care enough to take care of my teeth, which has not always been the case. This place has never made me feel negative about myself. They take good care of their patients. I'll also note that the dentists do not seem to tolerate patients acting out towards their employees. I've seen signs up about it. I respect that as much as I respect how they treat me. Highly recommend!

Not only is it helpful to find a dental practice willing to open on off hours to accommodate patients - but a solid relief when an emergency arose this Memorial Day weekend (this was a second tooth that broke in 3 years). On a Friday night, my temporary crown came off. My dentist closes on weekends and I was referred to Birmingham Family Dental Services. I didn't know if they would be able to work me in and expected a long wait. They were able to fit me in their schedule and re-attach my temporary crown. The staff was very friendly and professional. I was really nervous about going to the dentist in general but I had a great experience. I arrived early but the front desk workers couldn’t find my chart. They had me fill out the information again and I was sent in for appointment almost immediately. Sonia (Sonya) was the hygienist who cleaned my teeth. She was really friendly and did a great job! My gums feel 100% better. The doctor was also really nice but I don’t remember his name. 10/10 would suggest you try this office if you don’t already see a dentist.

In from out of state visiting family and ended up with a terrible toothache. I called everywhere and no one could get me in. I finally found Birmingham Family Dental Services, and let me just say I am beyond grateful. Took care of my dental issue and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. Busy place but they do not turn emergencies away. Hopefully I don't end up needing a dentist again while out of state, but if I do, I will be right back to see these folks.

I had a horrible toothache for months back in February of 2020 (I’m terrified of needles- hence I’m terrified of the dentist) it kept getting worse to the point I was bed ridden in pain. I only go to the dentist when I have to. I had called a few places and was getting nowhere with it being a Saturday morning I’m so glad this place is open 7 days a week! Got there, waited a bit, got an X-ray done and about 15 minutes later was in the chair getting it pulled 🙌🏻 great place. I was so satisfied that I recommend this place to anyone having a dental emergency!!!

I had awful tooth pain over the weekend and went in on a Sunday and waited 20 minutes to be called to the back and the dentist assistant was very nice and kind. Dr. Chambers came in and let me know what needed to be done and did the root canal and I felt no pain at all. Very minimal pain afterwards. Not to mention the prices are affordable. 10/10

Woke up at 2am on a Sunday with a throbbing, swollen tooth that Oragel and OTC meds couldn't touch. Googled for a dentist anywhere near me that would be open on a Sunday not expecting to find one. However I found this clinic, called when they opened at 9 and they said they could take me as a walk in as long as I was there by 11. I got there at 9:47, had paperwork and xrays done, tooth extracted and discharged in under an hour. Dentist was very efficient and respectful and I didn't feel rushed at all even though the whole process moved very quickly. I was allowed to make my own decisions about what I wanted done. This is the first procedure I've ever had done without gad sedation due to dental phobia and he was so gentle I didn't even know the tooth was out! 10/10 would recommend and will definitely now use them as my primary as well.

I went to this practice today for an emergency. They were able to get me in on the same day I called. Everyone was professional and friendly. I saw Dr. Wall and was very pleased with her. She took time and answered all my questions as well as giving me information On Sjrogrens I was not aware of before. I then saw Dr. Warren, as I needed a tooth removed. He was patient and made sure I was in no discomfort. Both were friendly and pleasant. The dental hygienist, (I’m sorry I didn’t get her name) was exceptional.

If you are absolutely TERRIFIED of the Dentist, Birmingham Family Dental is a great place for you. I have 30 years of neglect in my mouth and have had a few very traumatic dental experiences, so I was super scared to go to the dentist and potentially be shamed for how badly I have cared for my teeth, not to mention the potential pain of the two extractions I needed. I was so scared to go to the dentist I was looking up how to pull my own teeth- DON'T DO THAT. There is hope!! I eventually gave up and made an appointment with Birmingham Family Dental when I couldn't take the pain any more and my teeth were infected. When i got there I explained how I knew I cared poorly for my teeth but I was ready to make a positive change and I just wanted some help. There was NO SHAME. NONE. AT ALL. They said they understood (I have never heard a dentist say that before) that things happen and THEY JUST WANTED TO GET ME OUT OF PAIN. They said my teeth looked very painful and they just wanted to help me. I am uninsured and they still treated me with care and patience, and gave me options before I decided to just have the two teeth pulled. (I never felt pressured to have them extracted, it was always my decision) During the extraction process my doctor let me know I was in total control, and if I felt *any pain at all* to lift my hand and they'd give me more medicine- but get this- I had no pain. None. I did not need to lift my hand once. And these were cracked, infected, back molars. I felt no pain. I literally did not feel it at all. Before my procedure I told everyone how anxious I was and the whole time they were pulling my teeth they were checking in with me, making sure I was okay, and reminding me that I was doing a good job. It was honestly such a perfect experience. I never, ever make follow up appointments with my dentist, because I don't want to deal with the shame and anxiety, but I was treated SO WELL by Birmingham Family Dental that as I left I made an appointment to review my whole dental health and actually make a treatment plan. If you are in pain and scared in Alabama, there is hope. Birmingham Family Dental will help you.

I had woken up in excruciating pain from a wisdom tooth and of course it was a Saturday. I called Birmingham Family Dental and the lady said to just be in the doors by 12 so I headed that way. When I got there, the waiting room was full so I assumed I’d have to wait forever but that wasn’t the case at all. They got me right back for a X-ray. There was some issue with my insurance but the lady at the front desk was patient with me and really searched to find it before I left which I really appreciated. I got back to the dentist and they insisted I go across the hall to the oral surgeon to have the tooth taken out. I was SO nervous but the assistant and the surgeon really took their time with me and were super nice and talked me through everything. The surgeon made sure I was nice and numb and explained the numbing shot would be the worst part. He was very thorough and efficient. It hardly took any time at all and I was finished. It was affordable and I felt valued as a patient. I would definitely go again for a dental emergency.

This place has been saving my behind with everything from teeth cleanings to extractions since 2012. When all other dentist offices are closed, Family Dental's doors are open. Saturdays, Sundays, New Year's Day: they answer the call. When tooth pain strikes it can be unbearable and no one can wait a full weekend, especially a 4-day holiday weekend, to get relief. My tooth was broken off and I was difficult to numb but the doctor and nurse who treated me never gave up. They had a full house of people in pain that day but I never felt like my needs weren't met. In 2012 they pulled another tooth of mine and were just as great so their service has been consistent for over 10 years and their prices are far more forgiving than any other practice in the area. They should be made famous for their service to the community! Thank you Family Dental!

Let me just say— it is Christmas Eve. Last night I woke up with extreme toothpain and thought, “oh my God, if I don’t get this taken care of then I will most likely have to suffer all through Christmas weekend.” The dentist I normally go to is closed until after January 4th, but the message on the machine said to call this place for emergencies. They. Are. Lifesavers. They were open today until 11am. I got there around 10:30 and immediately apologized for coming in so close to closing time on Christmas Eve when I know they probably wanted to get home to their loved ones. I spoke to 6 people while I was there — 2 receptionist, 2 X-ray techs, the dental assistant and the dentist himself. Every single one of them told me not to worry about it and that that’s what they were there for, and they said it with genuine kindness. I ended up having to get the tooth extracted and had just mentioned in passing that I wouldn’t be able to see the numbing needle bc I have a fear of needles and the dentist and assistant went above and beyond, letting me know when it was coming so I could close my eyes. During the entire procedure they asked how I was feeling and if there was any discomfort. They didn’t rush because it was close to closing and they didn’t make me feel like a burden. After they were done they gave me my prescriptions and instructions and told me if I had any issues to call them back. I can now enjoy my Christmas pain free thanks to them! If I could give 10 stars, I would. THANK YOU!

I came in with excruciating pain from a root canal that was done wrong by a different dentist at a different place, and Dr.Swicord saved my life by realizing what happened and fixing the problem. I had an abscess that was treated earlier this week with a root canal but became reinfected overnight on Friday. Called the office and they were able to work me in on Saturday afternoon. They had worked me in during this whole COVID situation, when no one else had a lab up and running. I've been going here for over a year now for routine cleanings and check-ups by appointment. No issues with insurance and good experience overall thus far. Decent location, for being downtown. For my most recent visit this past Saturday, the dental hygienist, Laurie, provided top notch customer service and even got the doctor to check things out first so that I could get out sooner. I love the fact that this business is open 7 days a week. Saturdays are their busiest days, which is to be expected, and I think Sundays are for emergencies. My only thing is handling walk-ins in general, who I believe were squeezed in before me at times, though they arrived after me.

Well, my tooth had started hurting the day before and now it was throbbing pretty regularly; so I considered it an emergency. On Friday night I chipped my front tooth. I called my dentist but he was out of town because of the Memorial Day holiday. He suggested Birmingham Family Dental Services because they are open seven days a week. I was apprehensive about seeing another dentist and I thought I would just wait until he returned on Wednesday but that was a long time to walk around looking like the character from Dumb and Dumber. On Sunday I decided to take a chance. My anxiety level was sky high because I did not know what to expect. When I arrived at the office, the surroundings were nice and neat and the staff was super nice. They did not know if they could reach my dental provider but they said that they would give it a try just in case. Everyone from the office staff, to the dental hygienist, to the dentist who made me look normal again, were super nice. I have told family and friends about this practice and recommend them highly.

Went to them a little over a year ago on a Saturday morning in tears due to the excruciating pain from an abscessed tooth. Was brought back within fifteen minutes, and was quickly numbed to relieve the pain. A root canal was done, and the tooth saved. Everyone from the front desk to the doctor who performed the root canal was kind and caring. So much so that this is now my regular dentist. Although the doctor who did the root canal is no longer there, Dr. Emily Payne has been working with me to complete extensive work. She is very kind, gentle and knowledgeable - as are the two ladies who assist her. I’ve also been seen by, and have consulted with Dr. Swicord, and he is great, too. It’s very obvious that they put their patient’s needs first, as opposed to the money. With very little dental insurance and a small income, it’s taking some time, but I can say that their prices are much more affordable than other places. So, Being seen just after lunch on a Friday was a big deal. But the receptionist and the staff weren't as friendly as I remember. I did go in with somewhat of an attitude, which wasn't any fault of theirs. Overall this experience was less than desirable, but It did the job and I would return given similar circumstances (regarding the issue and time I had available) So, that's where the value comes in.... Notice I said VALUE....that's what you get here. IMO ~ It is NOT where you want to lay for all your dental needs.... You will find several places more comfortable and inviting. That is what I look for, since you know you are dreading this visit anyway.

I have visited this office several times. As a truck driver, it's difficult to make in home for appointments. It's nice to allow walk ins. Their service has always been very good until my last visit when Dr. Adam Contant extracted 2 teeth with a serious infection. It is difficult to get me numb enough where it doesnt hurt. This time was worse because of the infection. I have NEVER had a dentist spend as much time with me as he did. It's the first time I've ever had a dentist that I truly believed cared about my pain and comfort as Dr. Cotant. These were difficult extraction because the teeth were broken. Ok i do not post reviews often but when a dentist and his/her staff is phenomenal its time to let the world know! I am 41 years old and I have spent what seems like an entire lifetime in a dentist office having something done to my teeth every month! To make a long story short i have had over 30 surgeries on my mouth involving bone, teeth and metal. Three sets of braces. Removal of extra teeth. Replacement of several teeth and a plethora of root canals, filled cavities and numerous extractions are just the tip of the ice berg. I say all that to say this, the staff at BFD is absolutely the most amazing, caring and helpful group of people that i have ever came in contact with. The Doctor's at BFD are truly phenomenal and actually listened to my concerns, my thoughts and never once tried to force me to do anything! Ive had 2 teeth extracted on different Saturday's, and as much experience as i have had in 41 years with dentist and dental procedures, I can say without a doubt these last 2 visits to BFD were the absolute best experiences of my life! I cracked a tooth two days after Christmas and my regular dental office was closed for the week. They referred me to Birmingham Family Dental Services and I was very apprehensive, to say the least. Everyone with whom I came in contact could not have been nicer. Dr. Swicord was professional, painless and efficient. The fact that he was an Auburn grad only enhanced my experience. I got a temporary crown and was out in about two hours. This dental coward was impressed!

I called here on a Friday and got an appointment for the next morning at 9:00. I got there at 8:45 and by the time they called me back at 8:55 the waiting room was full. I cant say the receptionist was friendly but everybody else was great. I think it is very affordable. I dont have insurance and it was $196 for two small fillings on a front tooth, which was a lot less than I thought it might be. The assistant's name was Lindsey and she was great! I dont remember the doctors name. Definitely will go back.

In February 2016, i visited BFD because I was new to the area and had a toothache emergency. Everyone at the office was very kind, polite and compassionate towards me. The experience was so good, i decided to go back and have them do extractions and immediate dentures for me. I started with just the top being done and things went really well. I had no problem with the dentures and waited until about 8 weeks outand had them relined to fit well after my gums have healed. Now, i absolutely HATE my top dentures after the chairside reline because they are rough and do not feel the same as when they came back from the lab. The bottom dentures were another story....it has been almost 3 weeks since the bottom extractions and i have YET been able to wear the bottom IMMEDIATE dentures! We tried to reline those chairside as well, but ended up sending them to the lab to be done. My whole issue with this entire process is that i have had to pay for the upper reline and now, the bottom reline to be sent to the lab and i have not been able to wear them since the beginning, which is why i chose immediate dentures! I was under the impression that there is at least some type of warranty on the dentures to satifactory to me instead of having to continue to pay out of pocket! So, after paying over $3000 to get dentures that i cannot wear, i am still having to pay $450 more to get satisfaction and a decent smile. Needless to say, i am getting married in 4 months and it is NOT looking too good for my smile at this time. I still cant eat like i want and all the tastings for the wedding caterers i have just had to skip!! My fiance is also a doctor and she is definitely NOT a happy camper on how Dr. Soon has treated me with the dentures and continuous financial draining!!!

I am so thankful for this place! I had a really bad toothache the day after Thanksgiving. I couldn't find anywhere in my town open that day so I ended up at Birmingham Family Dental in search of relief. Turns out I had an infection way down under a tooth that I had a root canal done on by another dentist about a year ago. Dr. Swicord opened the tooth back up and started a new root canal. He sent me home with antibiotics and pain meds over the weekend. I went back the next week where he finished the root canal and was able to reuse my previous crown from the first root canal, saving me a lot of money I'm sure! To begin with let me just say that Doctor Mark was wonderful God sent I was told by another dental office that I was going to have to have oral surgery and that would have costed me way more money than I have so when I went in there and I sat down in the chair I was so nervous because I was hoping and praying that it wasn't going to be as much as it was will come to find out I didn't even have to have oral surgery I did it was like minor oral surgery LOL I guess you could say and he pulled two teeth for me instead of just the one that I was complaining with that got messed up when I had my car accident and then also I had a panoramic X-Ray so was that being said I have a panoramic X-Ray two teeth pulled and one was considered oral surgery for only $290 he is amazing very compassionate so sweet and kind and his forever and will always do my dentist as long as we both shall live LMAO sounds like we're getting married!,😂 but seriously it's a very great place to go there open 7 days a week and they are very very clean and professional and quick.

I have been seeing Dr. Swicord at Birmingham Family Dental Services for many years, both at the current location and the previous one, and have always known him to be a very professional dentist, good businessman, and kind and understanding person. His dental assistants and office staff have always treated me professionally and with kindness. When I have called for whatever reason--perhaps to check on the date of my appointment, to let someone know I was running a bit late, or to discuss my bill--I have always been treated kindly and professionally. A few months ago, I scheduled an appointment because I had felt a swelling in the gum on the lower side of my jaw. Dr. Swicord said it was a gum boil that indicated an infection. After taking X-ray images of that area, Dr. Swicord said the boil was indeed due to an infection caused by a cracked root. The cure, he said, was to remove the tooth. I protested, so he offered to have me receive another opinion. His diagnosis and remedy was confirmed by another dentist at Birmingham Family Dental without prompting by Dr. Swicord--I know because I saw and heard Dr. Swicord speak with the other dentist. Bottom line is that I later had a dental implant and a crown for that missing molar that now feels as if nothing happened. One could not ask for a better, more professional, dental practice with good dentists, dental assistants and hygienists, and office staff. I highly recommend Birmingham Family Dental Services!
