I am from Pennsylvania and visiting Asheville, NC. The wire connecting my front bottom teeth broke and was cutting the sides and my tongue badly. I called many dentists but didn’t get an emergency appointment. When we called Asheville Dental Associates, they created time to see me the same day in spite of their busy schedule. Asheville Dental Asso is my go-to for all our general dentistry. Dr. Tompkins has gone above and beyond the call of duty for us, as my daughter has special demtal needs and he has been very helpful in trying to connect us with outside resources as far as out of state experts. I think the cleanings i get here are excellent: special shout out to Yami & Lauren, and the nice and highly efficient front office staff. They also work well with our insurance and communicate well. I super appreciate being a client at this firm and highly recommend them!!

The most friendly and thorough cleaning I’ve had in my 62 years. Also, Dr. Tomkins fixed a tooth my brother whacked in 1970. It was wiggly, and I’ve wondered for decades how long it would last. Well, a year after the root canal now - and it’s firm and secure. Thanks Dr. Tomkins!!

Most gentle dental experience ever. I have a terrible gag reflex and I didn't gag once through the exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment. I haven't been to the dentist in 10 years so I obviously had a slew of work that needed to be done. A deep cleaning, multiple cavities, sealants etc. I've had three different dentists at asheville dental associates but the reason I'm writing the review is because of Luke Tompkins. He did an incredible job giving me fillings and also replaced one that didn't properly bond to my tooth free of charge. I can't recommend him enough! He's made going back to the dentist after a long hiatus much less stressful

I had to have a molar extracted today!😒☹️🥺 it was a bummer since it had an old crown on it. Unfortunately, it had abscessed on me. No sweat, said Dr Thompkins. We’ll have that out in no time. For those that don’t like needles, just don’t look! With his steady hand he slowly injected the gums to settle the tooth nerves down. Barely felt it.😀 Okay, now I’m good and numb. It was out with a little winkle and tug! Thank you Dr Thompkins, Great Job! 😁 Updated 10-6-2022 I would like to advise folks that use this practice to go through your insurance company to see what is truly covered and what is not. This has been an ongoing conflict for me, even after changing my insurance policy to an In Network Provider. The insurance folks do not really know what is or is not covered, which surprised me. Any conflicted charges will fall back onto the client/patient. Not all fluoride treatments are covered. Read the fine print…. and don’t get trapped by the use it or loose it. Bottom line. It still will come out of your pocket. They are not flexible when it comes to the last cents! Therefore I have changed them to a 4 star.

My mother who does not have dental insurance is also a patient here. She has had a positive experience as well. The dentists help prioritize what work needs to be done and when and have been reasonably priced compared to her previous dental office in Raleigh. If you’re in Leicester or West Asheville I would highly recommend their practice.

I hadn’t been to the dentist in 4-5 years. I had serious gum recession and sensitivity to hot/cold as well as being unable to chew on certain areas of my mouth. I expected to need major work, root canal or something equally as intense. My fist appointment I had a cleaning and all my X-rays taken. The dentist said he didn’t think it was as bad as I feared, they would get me in, clean out the areas that looked problematic and would hopefully be able to do some good fillings and resolve the problem. 5 days post and my teeth look amazing! I can chew on that side again and I am so excited to get in and have my other side done! Def recommend, everyone was so nice and helpful and made me feel very welcome and well cared for!

This was the first dentist visit for me in quite a while just because I’ve always had bad experiences. Yami explained everything she was doing and made sure I didn’t have questions. I don’t think any dental hygienist I have ever seen was as thorough as she was! She did amazing and was very gentle while cleaning my teeth. Dr. Abbott was very kind and also explained what he felt like would be the best treatment plan for me. This was a great experience for me and I look forward to having them for my teeth!

I couldn’t be happier with my experience at Asheville Dental Associates! Dr. Tompkins is very knowledgeable, has a great bed side manner, clearly explained my dental plan with me, & is a talented surgeon. I recently got two teeth with multiple cavities filled and one extraction which took about an hour and a half. There were close to 100 different steps to accomplish this. I was amazed that while he was working on my mouth his assistant had the next tool he needed ready in her hand every time right as he needed it. It was very well orchestrated. I was impressed. Tompkins was very talented and hurt me as little as possible. If I was going to offer one criticism, when I went to check out, I asked for a second tooth brush. Keep in mind I have a $3500 treatment plan I had just made a payment on. The receptionist said that we only give out tooth brushes when you get cleanings. So I thought it was a little silly she wouldn’t give me a tooth brush that cost them $1 when I am going to be a long term paying customer. Besides that, I have already recommended Asheville Dental Associates to many of my friends and co-workers.. they are 5/5.. Very pleased

Prior to a couple months ago, I haven't received dental work for several years. In the time since, I've made more progress than with any dental office in the past decade. It started out when I was waiting for my insurance to kick in at my new job, during which time I realized I was long overdue for handling some serious problems. I got in for an exam and cleaning, and Dr. Tompkins laid out a treatment plan starting with the major health related issues and working down to the smaller and cosmetic stuff. Each visit is broken down so it's always manageable and practical. Setting appointments is always easy, and they schedule flawlessly so when it's time for my appointment to begin I'm always called right away. I'm not entirely sure of who everyone is yet but all of the ladies up front are always super friendly and knowledgeable, and the ladies that assist Dr. Tompkins make everything pleasant and easy. Of course, the Doc himself is always on point with knowing what's going on and makes it easy to sit in the chair without worry, fear or pain. I legitimately look forward to going to the dentist now because I know it's productive and I'm not getting ripped off in an eternal money pit as I've had happen in the past. Without exaggeration, it's the best dental office I've ever been to in my life.

I am not proud of it but I have managed to avoid seeing a dentist since I was a teenager due to just so many unpleasant experiences as a child and young adult with dentists, I am now 36. But I had recently had some issues arise that needed attention before they became serious problems. So I got some recommendations from friends/family and found Dr. Bowman-Hensley. Her staff were super nice, educated and able to work me into the schedule under an emergency visit. I have only been to see Dr. Hensley once so far and had to have 2 teeth fixed. She was super and very gentle as I had explained my anxiety about general dentistry. She was a very pleasant, funny and kind dr. She will converse with you and let you know what all is going on if you want to know and she was very knowledgeable and explained things in a manner that those of us not educated on the nitty-gritty details in dentistry can understand thoroughly. I was even given a little break here and there during the process which was greatly appreciated. Over all the experience wasn't a bad one considering I needed some actual work and not just a routine cleaning. Needless to say I am not dreading my actual new patient appointment coming up in a couple of weeks. I think I finally have a safe home for general dentistry, where they listen to my needs, concerns and don't judge you. THANK YOU!!!! Dr. Bowman-Hensley & Staff You are all angels!

My 6 year old son had an abscessed tooth and Dr. Hopper did everything in his power to save the tooth and heal the infection. Both times I called in, I was seen right away and there was no wait. The third time we needed to pull the tooth. Again I was scheduled that day and they had the door open, ready for my son as soon as we entered. All three visits were phenomenal. I was so impressed with my first visit, I wanted this new, young doctor to fix my front tooth, so I made sure I'd see him again and not get someone else. Take a look at his Excellent work! Which tooth had a cavity hole in the front? Exactly! Even I can't tell! (Left of the main front tooth.) Dr. Tomkins did a fantastic job and I'd highly recommend asking for him. I found this office when I had a tooth that needed to be pulled. I have very high anxiety about going to the dentist so I let the tooth go longer than I should have. They got me in the very next day after I called. Everyone was so kind and so helpful. One of the hygienist picked up on the fact that I was extremely nervous and anxious she told me next time to let them know and they would write me a prescription. That was about 2 years ago. I have been able to get a root canal and a crown, get a filling, and have my teeth cleaned because they were all so kind, patient, understanding, and helpful. The anti anxiety meds helped too! I don't think I would have been able to get any dental work done anywhere else. I'm a foster mom of 3 and they are always understanding when something comes up with the kiddos last minute. I also am very bad about calling back or scheduling things because my anxiety gets the best of me or I'm busy with the kiddos. They are very understanding with that too. Every dentist that has seen me is very patient, kind, and thorough. I really can't say enough good things about this office. I am beyond grateful for all of their staff. If it wasn't for this office my teeth would be a lot worse off.
