Reviews of The Dance Gallery

The Dance Gallery is an amazing dance studio. Expect a safe and caring environment. A true cornerstone for the art of dance in the Tuckahoe community. I recently had the opportunity to work with the team on a project for recital season and I was so impressed with the quality and overall charm of the school. Everyone there is so great. It's no wonder that The Dance Gallery has become such a "hot spot" for dance training in the area.

My daughter has taken several classes and workshops at the Dance Gallery and we couldn’t be more impressed. The quality of instruction coupled with the “family feel” makes this truly a unique place. Call and speak to the owner/director Miss Jennifer. Her knowledge and professionalism is unmatched.

I’ve been at multiple dance studios, but The Dance Gallery has the nicest staff, most beautiful and relaxing environment, and huge windows that give the place a gorgeous light! Very clean studio that is definitely covid safe. Would definitely recommend the classes! My child loved summer camp too!

The Dance Gallery team is the absolute best. So many talented and kind teachers and offer such a wide range of styles with a flexible schedule. We can’t wait for next season

The Dance Gallery is an amazing dance studio. Ms. Defabbia’s passion for dance and teaching children is demonstrated in every activity that is planned.

The Dance Gallery has been such a nurturing and supportive environment for my three kids. I don’t write many reviews, but after such a wonderful recital weekend, I feel like I would be remiss in not sharing this gem. While it comes as no surprise that they have the little bitty kid program down pat, we have also found them to be amazing with our preteen boy. Our experience with the young tap and ballet classes have been wonderful. The teachers lead the classes with gentle authority that produces enthusiasm all week long. My kindergartener/first grader has been excited every single week to attend class and after it’s done, she dances her way through the week showing us all the new things she’s learned. We’ve been extremely pleased that at 5 and 6 years old she knows the proper names for positions and steps. The preteen//teens have so many places to shine here! We were hesitant for our son to join a class already in progress when he had virtually zero studio dance experience. He was extremely nervous that he wouldn’t be able to keep up and would feel out of place. By the end of his first class, he came out confident that he could keep up and by the end of the year, he was able to perform a complicated music theater piece complete with lifts!! A recital is a fun showcase for the end of the year that gives the children the opportunity to learn show etiquette. It’s also aspirational as they watched all the seniors doing very technical and captivating pieces. The group numbers were polished and more than one of the solo pieces left us astounded that these were just children. Bottom line: This is a professional studio nurturing students to grow into accomplished and confident dancers.

For the past 7 years, The Dance Gallery has been my second home. As a graduating senior this year, I thought it appropriate to share my experience, and gratitude for the company, the classes, and the family that TDG has provided me throughout my adolescence, and that which it continues to provide to their growing dancers.
When I first started here, under the ownership of Miss Stephanie Urbina, the gallery was small, maybe 3 teachers and 10 students. My sister and I were two of her first dancers. The others who started out with us, I am proud to say, have either remained at our studio up through their high school graduations, are graduating alongside with me this year, or are still pursuing their dance career at TDG until their own graduations arrive.
The same level of devotion can be applied to their outstanding, passionate, and invested group of instructors. As time has gone on, our wonderful staff has not only continued to grow in size, as our studio has, but each individual teacher has adapted and evolved in and of themselves to provide TDG’s students with the perfect level of support, love, and training to better them as dancers, and as people. The high quality content and choreography that the phenomenal staff provide to us is inspiring, as is their engagement and commitment to us. The fact that the same three teachers who TDG started with at their inception, are either still teaching my weekly classes, or continue to stay in contact with me through texts, social media, and our annual performances, is a testament to that, and to their genuine love of teaching, of dance, and of forming true, deep relationships with the kids, like myself, who they helped to grow over many, many years.
As I reflect on my time at The Dance Gallery… whether it be the memories I have of my first trial classes, the first time I shakily applied our dark red stage lipstick, the first time I landed a pirouette, or got picked up from a failed attempt to do so - the nervous whispers from backstage at our Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, or Paul Taylor showcases, the encouraging smiles I received from the wings of the stage throughout our pieces, my bows under the bright spotlights while locking arms with my lifelong best friends, the nostalgia I experience from looking at the array of costumes I still have hanging in my closet, or the tears that flowed from my eyes as I took my last bow as a Dance Gallery student at our performance last weekend, similar to the ones that flow from my eyes right now as I write this - there is one thing in common: the love that The Dance Gallery has instilled in me. Love of dance, love of learning, love of making new friends, love of movement, of expression, of art, of something more than athletic competition or a scoreboard, love and appreciation of teachers, love of the time I am gifted to be among friends, love of the relationships they have introduced to my life, and most importantly, love of family, because that’s what they are to me.
Miss Shannon, Miss Kelly, Eric, Miss Hayley, Miss Julia, Miss Cassie, Miss Shanna, Miss Jordan - I truly, and deeply, love and thank you all. There is no better place, and no better people than right here.
