Twice we have been to the Alpine Shop and both times the staff was AWESOME! I was getting fit for ski boots and this time, Shannon was awesome! She took her time, allowed me to ask questions, feel out the boots, teach me about different styles and features, and gave me time to determine what felt best. She was really patient and I truly appreciate how helpful they are every time we go! When spending a significant amount of money, it’s nice to see how helpful and considerate the staff is of their customers. My husband dropped skis for new bindings as well and despite what is the week before the holiday, they told us they could fit us in for a repair! Their willingness to go above and beyond is clear! Not to mention, they have a great selection from Patagonia and Northface to 686 and Burton. A++++

I had such a great experience with an online order . None of the mega camping sites had the backpack, I wanted, in all 3 colors available. Caleb put me on hold went and personally verified they had all 3 colors, took my order and shipped them the same day!! I will definitely recommend to friends and absolutely use this shop as much as possible!!

My goto shop for disc golf supplies! This is a really fun store to browse in. They also have a really good bike department. We have brought our bikes in now and then for service and they always do a great job. The bikes are also ready when promised. Their staff is helpful if you have questions. I highly recommend this place for all your outdoor needs. They are great!

Best Hiking Everything! From clothing to shoes. Alpine shop has it Best part is the service. All staff are fabulous, but a special shout out to Sye and Angie, who helped me time and again, to fix a pesky hiking shoe fitting issue . They are super amazing!

Went to get fitted for ski boots and to get bindings mounted, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a business. Even though it was incredibly busy and they were short staffed, everyone was extremely friendly. I ended up leaving with exactly what I came for.

There was a mistake made with a couple pairs of bindings and skis. The "mistake" ended up being OK, but Eric and the rest of the guys in the ski department owned it and made the experience positive. We had a good resolution, but they offered to do really anything I wanted. It was great to deal with people do the right thing!

Great place to buy Patagonia products. I very much appreciated all the extra help Debbie provided while shopping. She was very helpful explaining the return process because I was buying a gift. Very wide selection and lots to choose from.

This was my first time stopping here. Facility is clean and the staff are friendly. I lucked out by stopping by during a sale and picked up some essentials for kayak season. I probably could have picked up some of the items for cheaper online, but with the trusty staff and being able to try things on while I was there trumped the online shopping experience. The staff is fairly knowledgeable of the outdoor sports / adventures so they can help point you in the right direction when you’re looking for the right gear. Neat little spot. If you’re in the Kirkwood area stop by and find all the outdoor gear you need.

The store has great selection of gear items, but what sets this gear store apart is their customer service. The sales associate (Miles) went above & beyond to assist me with a damaged pack. Customer service like this is what makes life long customers and sets a business apart. I HIGHLY (and can't stress this enough) recommend Alpine Shop for your outdoor gear needs

Joe in the ski/snowboard shop was awesome, patient and just plain customer oriented. It was refreshing to see someone like this in StL where customer service and kindness are foreign. Everyone I spoke to was polite and courteous. Great job. Just because of this we will be back.

We keep coming back here so I thought I should finally write a review. They have fixed my bike, we bought two bike racks (both are great), and their clothing and shoe selection for the whole family is very good. So pleased we have this local shop in kirkwood.

I had a relatively simple need for a specialized washer. The bike manufacturer would take forever to get it to me so I popped into the Alpine. They tossed me one and I am going to make sure they are lauded for the assistance. If you need sports related items, go there. Want to learn a new sport, get to the Alpine. Bored? Buy a pizza and share with those guys. They will entertain you.

Very helpful staff and very knowledgeable. Many years ago I had a problem with the Alpine Shop when it was in Webster Groves due to one of the guys that ran the place. But he is long gone and I have since found the Kirkwood location and staff to be an excellent source of info, supplies & outdoor gear. Highly recommended!

TL;DR - smaller than REI, but still has everything you're looking for and it seems cozier than you would expect. 10/10 would shop here again. You know, the folks that work here are nice (shout out to Steven with the sweet van). They're nice and they're experienced with what they're talking about. You go on and ask about backpacks and two people will help you out, ask you questions about your needs, share the most relevant technical specifications about a few different products they might want to suggest, and then tell you a story about one of their personal vacations using that exact gear or something similar. As a testimony to how great this place is, I was shopping there during the pandemic and the folks were still super friendly. I'm a bit of a gearhead and I spotted a campervan in the parking lot. I asked the clerk about it and she told me who it belonged to because it was one of the salesman's. The salesman then very cheerfully talked to me all about it and then showed off all of its cool features. He even told me what products he was able to buy from their store and which ones he had to buy elsewhere because they were out of the ordinary for a retail gear shop. I mean, the enthusiasm this guy had really demonstrated how much fun shopping at this place can be. Steven, if you see this, thanks again mate and happy camping!

Went in to look at ski boot options and get fitted. Chris (ski/board department), was phenomenal. I have been skiing for 10 years and still managed to learn something new from Chris. Super informative and helpful. Awesome attitude and willing to help. Never felt pressured into purchasing anything but I still ended up snagging a new pair of ski boots. Would recommend 10/10

This is arguably the most helpful store I've ever been in. They actually have people walking around to see what you're interested in. It's not even a sales push, just good conversation and honest answers. I've only made one small purchase, (would have made more but there was limited items after the pandemic), but each visit I gained a ton of information about the products and local spots to use them. Special shout-out to the Kayak department, super helpful for getting me started.

I recently visited the Alpine Shop with my daughter who was looking for a new backpack for multi-day hiking trips. Allison was a tremendous help and spent lots of time with us giving advice based on her considerable experience, fitting the pack to her, and helping her make a decision. She ended up choosing an Osprey pack and the price was the same as the pack can be found online and at national retailers. However, there is no way those outlets can match the Alpine Shop for service! I shop there whenever I can and always have a great experience!

Good energy exists amongst like minded outdoor seeking people & I feel like home at the alpine shop in Kirkwood. It has a been a while & I walked into to inter galactic beastie boys, made me dance while clothes shopping. I bought my first board from their old store in Webster in e 90’s & one of their board reps helped me try on boots & pick out the new BOA technology when tightening on & off, which is super convenient. The in person advice & experience is well worth it. I enjoyed going back & look fwd To outdoor workshops. I am grateful for positive energy & helpful mountain/adventure places like Alpine Shop. 🙏🙏

If you’re looking for apparel or shoes, do yourself a favor and make sure you go to the Alpine Shop in Kirkwood first. I shopped at REI and the Alpine Shop for clothes and shoes needed for a trip and the Alpine Shop is the clear cut winner for selection, style, and customer service. This store is amazing and I’ll continue to make sure I shop there first before going elsewhere.

I felt educated on what to look for when it comes to both boots and skis! She even answered my questions about gear afterwards! You can really tell how passionate she is about skiing and has fun creating the same for others!

Has a good selection of kayaks and gear, the bike shop is very nice, lot's of clothing. Prices are in line with other outlets, but they run specials that often put them under the major outlets.

Ski shop sales guys originally sold too small boots, with return experience they were still trying to convince us to get too small size but ultimately allowed us to purchase a size he can tolerate and actually wear. Good quality products with great selections. Still not sure why they kept pushing the too small boots?? Wish St Louis would get another ski shop. Looking for healthy business competition for the benefit to the customers. Overall recommend this neat place.

Eric in the ski shop was awesome! I came in last Friday and expected to wait 3-4 days to have my bindings tested and adjusted. Eric did it while I waited 20mins. Great customer service. Buying ski clothes in Saint Louis doesn't get any better than this. First of all we walked in at open (10am on Saturday) and there was a table of complimentary ALCOHOL. A tub of iced down free beer. I shopped all morning while drinking for free, it does not get any betrer. They don't have the lowest prices but still keep a good inventory of of clearance and discount clothes on hand. If you're willing to pay for the quality they have all of the topline brands and plenty of choices. Clothing, equipment, and more. Sections for men, women and kids. Lots of staff around and all very friendly and helpful. Very impressed.

I wish I could give this a 6/5 stars. My satisfaction with working with the Alpine Shop over the holiday season was out-freaking-standing. I just finished getting my ski boots custom fitted by Jake in the ski shop and I could not be happier with my experience working with him. I work myself as a professional guide in Southeast Alaska and recognize and understand the importance of having your gear dialed in - the safety of other individuals is coincided with ensuring you are rocking and rolling at no less than 100%, which includes all of your gear. Jake understands this and poked, probed, and custom molded my boots to my feet to ensure "nothing less than perfection, my dude." - his words. We worked over a period of two weeks to ensure that the fit was dialed in to that level of perfection that Jake requires for his work. I myself head back up to Alaska this evening and cannot wait to rip with this new set up. If you are in the greater Saint Louis area, there is no other place you should go, with no other bootfitter you should see, in order to get your ski boots fitted. Jake's work, demeaner, candor and dedication to the craft cannot be understated. Thanks, my dude!

I had driven past The Alpine Shop numerous times but didn't stop in until after attending an OTA event they co-sponsored. I'm super impressed with this business. They offered cheap, sometimes free classes (I took backpacking basics) and are extremely knowledgeable about their products. I felt way less pressured here than at the REI I visited in Brentwood a few hours earlier and they weren't condescending (unlike at REI). I was price shopping and will definitely be back to The Alpine Shop soon.

Absolutely love this top notch local gear store! Angie Bono and Will arr simply incredible to work with, and I am thankful for their help. She turned me to some Superfeet sandals that I didn't know existed, but was able to purchase at the Alpine Shop and its been a game changer. The whole staff here is wonderful, they are helpful in assisting whatever you would like to do. Cycling to off road cycling, camping, snow skiing, kayaking, to fishing and so on. I have taken several day trips with the Alpine shop. This is where I tell people to go to for any type of out doors activity.
