Reviews of Portland Outdoor Store
Iconic western store with everything from boots to hats in a beautiful old building in Downtown Portland. Three stories to explore and a good selection of saddles and tack. Amazing customer service that’s hard to find these days, so glad I finally stopped in.
Being from Texas I was happy to find a proper western wear and outfitter store in the Portland area. Portland Outdoor Store is the real deal…. bought a great Stetson hat and clothing, entire staff was very helpful! I’ll definitely be back!
Wow, what a fabulous blast from the past. It felt like we were transport 120 years in the past. In these days of limited inventory, low quality, and depersonized service this store goes above and beyond to not only make you feel welcome to also to provide customers with top quality products and personalized services.
Brought straw cowboy hat. Great experience with both of sales persons present in the store. Definitely, will return in the future.
I've passed by this store man times and have never been in. Today, I decided to go in and check it out. I was glad I did. I found many popular brands that I like. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive. The prices were fair for the quality of clothing. I will most definitely be returning! Thank you Portland Outdoor Store!
If you are looking for a cool gift to take home from visiting the Portland area this is a good place for a hat or t-shirt. I was in town for two days and trying to find something from the area is always a challenge. I noticed a local person wearing one of the shirts and I ahd to check out the store. Staff is there to help you when you arrive and check out.
Really great store and staff. Had a large selection of boots and hats in different styles. They helped me try to order a specific Redwing boot I’ve been looking for. Unfortunately the boot was discontinued by Redwing, but they were really helpful.
Will definitely be going back for a future purchase if I’m in the area again!
Great store with friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a pretty wide selection of stuff,l. The location itself is awesome, an old building with tons of personality to match the gear inside.
Super friendly, not pushing me to buy something I didn’t like. The staff was extremely professional and personal towards my shopping. Will definitely go back shortly.
Great selection of all manner of: cow, horse, and western garb - impressive & high-quality garments
Awesome shop - Authentic and present, there are too few of these genuine stores.
What a great experience shopping at one of the best western clothing stores in America. The staff was stellar and well informed on all of the clothing and boots and accessories. The gentleman who help me find the right size but he was able to fit me in a vintage Nacona boot. I have weed years to find the right size of the induced to Sydney I am contact every boot barn etc. boot store in the hall south west and Pacific Northwest and I finally found the right place. Don’t waste your time with other boot stores these guys know their stuff. By farOne of the best shopping experiences of my life.
I bought a new shirt and two pairs of jeans there. It was like stepping back into the 1950s. The store had a unique historic, aged look to it. I've never seen any western shirt anywhere at the malls and places that could compare to the shirt I bought there. From the diamonded buttons on the shirt to the rich, warm pattern design makes this in the top five nicest shirts I have ever owned. It's a stunning looking shirt. I just felt like I stepped back in time. I can't wait to go back. Yes, I wouldn't even hesitate giving this store an easy all 5 star review.
I’ve been buying clothing from Brad and his team over 50+ years. Great quality products, helpful and very friendly staff! They have covered me from head to toe. Since I have wore nothing but western clothes a my life, I know where to shop. You will enjoy the service and wide selection at this Portland historic store.
Such an awesome store, super friendly and helpful staff! Great selection.
I got a gift certificate from my boss for Christmas and like a dummy I misplaced it, and when I went in today the owner (I didn’t catch his name) was the picture of patience and kindness even though it was SUCH a chore to find it in the system. I love the Pendleton jacket I got and I am so grateful he took the time to help me access my gift certificate! Would absolutely recommend. Everyone was also very helpful while shopping without being overbearing.
Ordered a pair of Lucchese boots from the factory through the Portland Outdoor Store. When the boots arrived they looked and felt great but when I got home the left boot started squeaking. I called the store and Brad said ship them back and he would take care of it. A few weeks later Brad called and said they were ready , the factory removed both soles and heels on the boots. I picked them up today and all is well.
Great experience-Awesome customer service.
Thank You All
Curt B.
They have literally some of the best garments in Portland, from flannel shirt to a wide variety of jeans. The Portland Outdoor Store is a staple and has been around longer then any other clothing store in all of Downtown. They always have some deals and amazing customer service. The atmosphere and building tell all of the history, stop by and enjoy the iconic store front.
I'm very rude sales associate followed me around like I was going to steal something from the beginning as soon as I walk into the store I was followed. I thought this was totally disrespectful and unnecessary as I was only going in there to hang out and see what kind of stuff they sold because there was no other clothing stores available to be accessed at that time at 10:00 a.m. in the morning. The guy was nice who worked there but the lady who followed me was working for him and I do not recommend going to the store. The clothes are overpriced and seem to be catered towards country bumpkin hicks from the olden days.
Beautiful old shop in downtown Portland, and one of the oldest. The employees are great and the selection is massive. They sell clothes, Western boots, blankets, gifts, and lots horse tack and saddles. The prices are good for the quality that you get.
This place has everything you need for outdoors & ranch wear. This comes as a surprise that it's right downtown!! The older gentleman working was nice and greeted me when I walked in. Just really didn't appreciate the other lady working as she never said anything to me and then followed me around like I was stealing or something, then awkwardly blew off my question. Extremely uncomfortable and unhelpful lady.. I left right away and will come back another day and ask for his help specifically. (Just a hint I think this person is ruining your business.)
Great old school store. Lots of hats and boots. Great flannels. Fun to look around at all the old stuff.
Always treat yourself to the 3rd floor where there are more saddles (new & used) than anywhere I've ever seen. ALL KINDS!!! And they have sturdy standards to try them out right there. Lots of variety in English too. Once upon a time, I even saw a beautiful baby blue patent leather racing saddle. And the people are wonderful and very helpful too.
I found a pair of boots that fit really well. When I got them home, I realized someone had previously returned them because the sole was scuffed up. But they fit so well, that I don't care.
Had I noticed at the store, I would have asked for a slight discount.
This place is amazing on levels. The quality of the goods, the customer service and the atmosphere is all top notch. I work in tourism here in downtown Portland and my job is to walk around downtown and check all the shops in the city. I try all the restaurants, boutiques, food carts, big box stores ect., and out of all the places I have gone to, The Portland Outdoor Store is just the best. I am not saying this because I am related to anyone that works here or because I am friends with anyone that works here either. I am saying this because out of the hundreds of interactions and experiences that I have had in this city, nobody dos it better than The Portland Outdoor Store.
You can not fake the level of customer service you are going to get here. A lot of the newer modern spots in town should be taking notes. Even some of you more established spots that have created a name for yourself but grown a little too complacent over the years could learn a thing or two from these guys. A lot of people that work in customer service tend to act a little too cool for school or that they are too good for the job they are doing. This does not exist in this store. Even if you are personally not in to the type of fashion that is going on here just stop by and say hello. Meet some real people and then feel the difference when you decide to go to some hip new spot where the 20something working the counter does not even realize that you have been in his 800 sq. ft. store for the past 6 minutes. If you enjoy eye contact and being treated with respect please check these guys out.
Every time I visit Portland, which is about once a year, my husband and I always make a couple of trips to this store. Even if you don't buy anything it's a great old building packed to the ceiling on several floors with clothing, boots, riding gear, and second-hand saddles (on the third floor). The service has always been great. This is especially true for Mike. You'll find him in the boot department. He's very knowledgeable and, while he will help you find what you're looking for, he won't try to sell you anything if it doesn't fit you.
Fantastic store. Like walking back in time in a good way. Great selection of Western gear and clothes in the store. If they don't have it in stock they can probably order it for you. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Old time good service.
Nice store. Make sure to check out all 3 floors. I had a nice chat with the boot guy. He's been there since the 80s. The store is family-owned by the 3rd generation.
This place is awesome!! They have SO MANY boots and the older gentleman who helped us was very nice and fun to talk too. We only came in to browse but we will be back in the fall to buy some boots!
The premier place for western wear in Portland. There's also a great selection of English wear and saddles. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, they made fitting my daughter for competition boots a hassle free experience.
This is the best store I've ever been to I've been going here for years they have great policies and effect and they have a great warranty guarantee I want to go to any other store to buy clothing
The good folks who work here make this place very comfortable. They ain't in a hurry to sell ya somethin' and then shuffle ya out the door. They took their time with me and were genuinely friendly, like they were proud of their jobs and their merchandise. The clothes and boots here are top quality and American made. If you want the best this is where to get it. Filson, Pendelton, Wigwam, Stetson.
Bring some money cuz you're gonna need a lot of it. Quality goods like this are expensive but worth it. Prices are comparable to anywhere else including online. If you do buy it on line you don't get the pleasure of meeting the swell folks who work here
Staff are super friendly, stocked up with some killer dead stock cowboy boots in the back! Gotta check this place out
Reduced hours during this ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic.
Personalized service and their legendary selection of the premium outdoor and western wear brands is good as ever.!
It's amazing a store like this still exists at all, your one stop shop for western wear and outwear with brands like Filson, Pendleton, woolrich, and will leather goods. Up stairs they have saddles and they also have Stetson blanks and can make a wide variety of Stetson hats.
This is a great store located in Oldtown, and easy to get to once you find a parking spot. Nice customer service, helpful if you want it, but give you space if you need it. I could spend a LOT of money in this store really quickly.
Friendly, knowledgable, old school store with all the best brands. My favourite store in Portland. 10/10
Great customer service!!! The salesman (Miguel) knows how to sell without being pushy. The owner was at the register. He along with Miguel were both friendly and informative.
All the best outdoor brands sold here - Barbour, Filson, Levi's, Wrangler, Woolrich, Pendleton, Red Wing, Frye. Can't think of a better place to shop for today's lumbersexual!
Employees are friendly and helpful.
Wide selection of outdoor goods. I love this store!
Nice selection of goods.
So many cool cowboy boots to choose from!
So much cool "country" clothing... found some amazing shirts and had to tap into my kids college funds to afford it but was well worth it... sorry kids... by the time you grow up you will be too busy stabbing one another for clean water anyways... well worth the 40 dollar Pendleton t shirt... bling bling... one fish two fish red fish blue fish... I felt like I was in Tejas for a minute... only of i had a taco would my religion make more sense...
Quientisensual western gear and clothing. Well known and popular from Portland to New York and Los Angeles. Luchesse, Stuart, and Tony Lama hand crafted boots. Filson and Barbour outdoor clothing. Stetson and Resistal hats, to name a few. Top of the line quality products, excellent staff; old Portland standard. 😉 …
awesome selection of everything old school western. it's amazing what they have packed into the space. friendly staff with no attitude. check it out.
Great customer service here. Never a problem to special order sizes too. Good tack room and supplies.
A Portland icon. Been in business since the 30's. Quality western wear, a large selection of boots & hats. Knowledgeable & friendly staff
They definitely have western wear although its weird that they are right in the center of Portland. Good stuff here. A little pricey but still good.
Very nice staff, great selection, very cool retro/original feel. Glad they didn't decide to update. Must see!
A Portland gem that, amazingly, has survived the current mayor and city council's destruction of downtown.
Really nice selection for anyone. Stop by. Pendleton and other cool clothing and gear.
This place is great! I got a new belt and a pretty shirt here, and they have a great selection of hats and everything outdoorsy.
Great store for outdoor clothes & gear lovers. Great selection of rugged brands and the staff here really know their stuff.
Even though they're the only place I know in town that sells my size of Levi's. The service is always been great.
Great historical sign. Bought a backpack that has lasted almost 10 years. Staff is very helpful.
The staff is awesome! they are willing to help you find what you want. I can in from out of state and this is a place I have to go back to.
