Fashion Center Alterations was my first-ever alterations experience and it did not disappoint. I came in with a bridesmaid dress that was several sizes too large and definitely worried it was going to not fit, or would look frumpy. Mae did a great job making it fit and be flattering. It was ready when she said it would be. I am having my own wedding next and feel confident with Mae's talent that she'd do an excellent job on my gown.

Mrs. Mae did an incredible job altering a bridesmaid’s dress for my brother’s wedding. The dress had to be ordered well in advance and ended up being 2 sizes two big. Mrs. Mae had her work cut out for her but the final product is amazing! I cannot wait to wear it, it fits like a glove. Mae did an amazing job, the quality of the work speaks for itself. I came in for alteration on three suit pants and she did exactly what I wanted for them, but beyond that she has a keen eye for this and the talent to create perfectly fitting clothing. Additionally, she was very fast, I came in on a Saturday with my pants and they were finished the next Tuesday even though I informed her that I needed them in 2 weeks. Mae is nothing short of amazing! Today was my first time in her shop and the service was excellent. I needed the pants legs on a jumpsuit hemmed and ready for pick up the same day. Not only did she do a great job, her prices are reasonable too! She had my jumpsuit ready within an hour. Her location is convenient and there is free parking in the back. There are a few tailors closer to my house, but Mae’s customer service can’t be beat! I highly recommend Fashion Center Alterations if you’re in need of tailoring services. Also, be sure to bring a check or cash as she doesn’t accept cards.

Let me tell you about Mrs. Mae ... amazing! She does great work and I intend to visit again. I had a bridesmaid dress that required alterations relatively quickly (12 days before wedding). She was able to turn it around for me in ONE day. Additionally, she spent time with me figuring out different ways to wear it and making sure the fit was good. Also l am getting for my wedding so I brought many clothes including my wedding suit and Mae did an excellent job in making exact adjustments in very little time. I highly recommend. I called so many places and everyone told me it was too late and that they would not be able to offer same day service. I called Mae at Fashion Center and, although she was skeptical that she could do the service same day, she told me to come in and she would see what she could do. Ms. Mae works MIRACLES! I came in with an over-sized (3 times my size), full-length winter coat that I fished from a bargain bin. Taking one look at the coat on me, she kept mockingly insisting that it would be impossible to tailor the "granddaddy" coat to the proportions of my body. LOL. Still, I pleaded with her to give it a try as I desperately needed a black coat to be in uniform-compliance at work. Reluctantly, she took the coat, making no promises. I'm glad to report that she had the coat altered and tailored to my frame and did so in less than the time she quoted me! The "granddaddy" coat has a more contemporary look, and I feel regal in it! I'm so grateful for her skills. She has a wonderful sense of humor and was a joy to work with.

Mae runs this business and I definitely recommend going to her for your tailoring needs! I needed a dress tailored quickly for a wedding (I was a guest) and she did it in 2 days and exactly what I asked for, for a very reasonable price. Just an FYI - there is a small parking lot sort of behind the “store front” red-ish building. The entrance to the place is up some stairs you will see, just sort of in the back / the side of the building.

Mae really helped me out. I’m starting a new job almost immediately. I came in on a Sunday and she was able to have my uniforms done by Tuesday and I needed them Wednesday. I dropped off an Azazie bridesmaid dress on Friday for alterations (the wedding is in two weeks). I initially went in thinking I needed the whole thing taken in and the sleeves shortened. Mae very kindly pointed out that I didn’t need to spend that much money and provided easy alternatives (replacing the cups to fit my actual size, simply adjusting the sleeves, and taking out the boning). Saturday morning, I got a text saying it was done! The dress was done beautifully and fit perfectly. I will be a return customer!

I have a pair of old Levi's 569's (straight leg) that were way too long and baggy. Hoping to salvage the pair rather than dispose of them I decided to take it to a tailor to see if they could taper the leg area, narrow the opening at the bottom AND also keep the original hem. I took the pair into Fashion Center to give it a shot and met Mae. I told her what I wanted to do and she was a little hesitant at first because she was not sure if the jeans would look good if she tapered them and that keeping the original hem was a challenge. But after a lengthy discussion she agreed to make the alterations. I dropped them off on a Thursday afternoon and to my surprise I received a text from her later that evening stating the alterations were done. I was amazed at how fast she was able to get them done. I went back the next day to see the results. When I put on the jeans I was AMAZED at the final product. The tapering was on point and her work keeping the original hem was outstanding. I brought a pair of shoes with me to try on with my altered jeans and they looked AMAZING. I am so impressed with her work that I am planning on bringing the rest of my alteration work to her. The price was a little on the high side but the end result was well worth the cost. I highly recommend Mae.

I dropped four items off with Mae on a Friday afternoon. I needed the straps of a jumper along with it's lining shortened, a beloved work shirt was beginning to fray under the arm, the neck of a dress for my bachelorette needed to be taken in to keep it from gaping in the bodice, and I needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed. She texted me on Sunday that all of the items were ready for pickup. Each items fits like a dream now! I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently she got the work done. I will say that the alterations were more expensive than I had expected, but each piece was different. The jumper was fully lined, the bachelorette dress was lace that she ensured matched up even with the pieces taken out, the bridesmaids dress didn't have a straight hem and had several layers, and the work shirt didn't have a simple hole but the fabric was fraying at the seam so she needed to reconstruct the seam entirely. I am very happy and will be glad to return when I need.

Mrs. Mae is INCREDIBLE. I had a dress with intricate straps that needed to be altered by about 1.5 inches on each strap. I was worried that the pattern would visibly look altered and not lay nicely on my shoulders. I was so wrong! Mrs. Mae worked some kind of sewing magic and was able to preserve the original pattern to the point it’s not discernible that any alterations ever happened. Brilliant! Oh, and she did the work in 4 days OVER the Christmas holiday. Worth every single penny.

Mae was able to alter a formal top for me overnight. I needed this top for an upcoming event and needed the time to take it to the cleaners. The alteration was form-fitting, and the seams were better sewn after the alteration than when I purchased the top. If you are looking for a seamstress for formal wear or any other types of clothing, utilize Mae. It’s nice to know I now have a fantastic neighborhood seamstress who pays attention to detail. FYI...she also has free parking behind her shop, which was a huge time saver in the busy neighborhood. Will return to her for all my alterations.

Fast service and superior quality! I brought in a bridesmaid dress, pants, and blazer to be altered. One was an emergency and the others were not. Everything went in too big, too long, and just awkward. It all came out fitting beautifully. The prices are reasonable, service is prompt (and often beyond expectations), and quality is fantastic. This was my first time using a tailor before, so I was a bit hesitant about bringing my diesel jeans in to be altered. However, my experience here has changed my mind about tailoring. My pants were too long and wrapped oddly around my legs. Mae made the process seamless (pun intended) figuring out the best way to fit the pants to my leg definition. She was very detailed and her years of experience definitely showed. I was extremely pleased with the result and will be bringing any other clothes that require tailoring to her specifically.

Mae did an amazing and SUPER FAST job! As a resident of Crystal City I was in need of a bridesmaid dress alteration and decided to check out if anywhere near 23rd street had an option. And after a quick call Mae was the first to get in touch, schedule an appt to see the dress and the alterations were done in under 2 days. Will definitely recommend this shop, as Mae has so much experience and expertise in the area of alterations! Going to get my officiant jumpsuit altered soon as well. Brought in a suit jacket to be altered expecting it to be done in a week or so as I chose rush service. It was done (beautifully) in under 24 hours! Mae is lovely and I will be back.
