Reviews of Evolution Healthcare & Fitness
Kalin Karich Roethle
I cannot say enough good things about Evolution Healthcare & Fitness.
First of all, Dr. Alicia MacDonald, PT is the best medical provider of any kind I have ever had- she is patient, understanding, personable, smart, explanatory, and just great to work with. Second, I had pre-paid for services with a great discount package they started offering, but because of other medical expenses, reached my insurance deductible and out of pocket maximums before using up my package at Evolution. Instead of needing to hunt down their billing department and ask how I was going to get refunded, as I was expecting to do, they called me today and already had a plan in place for how to deal with the situation. I couldn't believe how proactive they were in refunding my money! Such an amazing experience all around. Thank you for being a standout example of medical care (including billing).

I've had great experiences at Evolution! Sanatan, Camden, and Michelle helped prepare me for a worlds-level tournament, overcoming some longstanding muscular deficiencies that had built over Covid and led to pain and lower performance. With their help I turned things around in just a couple of months and ended up feeling better than I had in years. They gave me clear guidance, explained the why of everything, and made my plans short enough that they were easy to execute - I could actually stick with them. I can't recommend these practitioners enough, and the facilities are first class, too.

I’ve been going to Evolution a little over a year now and have felt so incredibly supported by both the fitness and healthcare parts of it.
I highly recommend Brian Krupke for personal training. As a trainer and coach, Brian is intuitive and creative. In the year + I’ve been working out with him, I’ve never been given the same workout twice. He helped me build the right muscles to safely go from couch potato to racing my first triathlon. And now he’s helping me to keep that strength and build on it. He pushes and encourages at the right moments when needed and keeps me accountable for my non personal training workouts.
I also started using the altitude room to prep for a recent 2-week hiking trip to Patagonia. While my trip wasn’t going to be at any sort of “high altitude”, I wanted to be in better cardio shape than where I was. I hiked uphill on a treadmill for an hour, once a week, at 10-11k ft for 10 weeks leading up to my trip. Within 3 weeks, I was noticing gains in how I felt (and my stats) in my regular spin class and after 5 weeks, running felt easier than it ever had before. I recently returned from my trip and absolutely feel like my time in that little room helped prepare me for the endurance I needed. I’m excited to continue to use it and can’t wait to see what it does for the triathlons I plan to do next summer!
I also saw Dr. Brad Farra for a knee issue that flared up two months before my big hiking trip. He helped identify the issue, get to the root cause, and came up with a plan (that was integrated with my personal training) to help me go and hike pain-free. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and kind.

By the time I started seeing Dr. Sanatan Golden in March of 2021 I was ready: ready to be uncomfortable and humble; ready to be vulnerable; and most importantly, I was ready to be curious. Injury and pain had come to define me (for decades) and I was so ready to shake that stigma. I led an active life prior to my initial herniated disc diagnosis. I ran; I managed a local running store; I loved to hike, garden, and be outdoors. At the onset of my lbp diagnosis, pain limited me to such a degree that my life as I knew it, shrank. I slid into deep depression because of my inability to move and was basing my decisions to do any kind of physical task thru the lens of fear. I wouldn’t consider car rides over an hour, I stopped running, I stopped working, and was finding little joy in my life. Over the next decade I would find varying degrees of healing, enough so that I could train for and run Hood to Coast in 2018, and climb Mount St. Helens 2020, but those accomplishments were always skewed by pain. When I finally found Dr. Golden I was feeling desperate. I had a long history of lbp (herniated disc l5/s1), shoulder pain, newly acquired hip pain and had been to neurosurgeons, orthopedic docs, and physical therapists. I had been referred to get injections and possible surgery by multiple doctors, but those directions felt wrong to me (and it wasn’t the first time those options had been presented.) I just knew somewhere deep in my body that I could heal without such invasive measures and that my body would be better for it. At the onset of our meetings I remember Dr. Golden saying, you’re not going to be able to wiggle your way out of this. (I would literally wiggle my way up and out of many pt exercises in lieu of real core strength.) That was important to hear. I needed to change my physical patterning and gain body awareness so that I could build a strong foundation. I have always been athletic, but I’ve never felt strong. One of my personal goals is to be stronger at 50 (I’m 49 now) than I’ve ever been. Guess what?! I’m actualizing that goal!
Dr. Golden asserted time and again that I needed to go thru the thick. To actually seek it out and find power in that thickness. (The Turkish getup has been great for this!) I have a long way to go, but I am seeing results. Currently, I spend a great deal of my time pain-free. My world is expanding and I am approaching it in open and authentic ways because I’m not guided by pain. I am realizing, too, that I have the ability to moderate and handle acute pain, pain flare, and injury. I am starting to think beyond survival mode and am shifting more towards opportunity, possibility, and purpose. The knee-jerk reaction of fear is losing its hold as I create new opportunities for my mind and body to develop, heal, and grow. Recently, I was able to participate in a Ragnar trail relay with friends and family. I was able to fly to Texas, carry my luggage, sleep in hotels, travel by car, sleep on a cot, not sleep for over 40 hours, run three legs (2 in the dark), and NOT NEED TO TAKE ANY KIND OF PAIN MEDICATION. I even volunteered to run (or walk if need be) one of my team member’s legs: they broke their hand on their 2nd leg and had to go to the ER. I did not end up picking up that extra leg, but the fact that I felt capable of doing it and was able to offer was so telling of my physical recovery. Huge accomplishment for me. I’ve worked my butt off to get here and I was able to enjoy the race because of it. I am very grateful. I am currently training for longer running distances and have signed up for another Ragnar trail relay next autumn. I will get to go to New England for that! I’m beyond thrilled that I get to go see a part of country I’ve never been; especially in the context of being outdoors, running on trails and with people I love. I now consider and dream of other physical endeavors I’d like to pursue: Whether or not I could actually do them, the blessing is that I am now considering physical opportunities based more on desire to do them and less on fear that I can’t.

I had a series of visits with Dr. Sanatan Golden PT, DPT, CSCS for inability to flex the fingers of my left hand which significantly limited my ability to use that hand. No certain diagnosis or effective treatment with my usual doctors. Dr Sanatan made a diagnosis and a treatment course during which the range of motion and effective strength in my fingers has improved steadily.

Camden has been my trainer since 2018 and it has been THE BEST investment I have ever made! He Iistens and proposes well thought workout plans to achieve my goals. He is very patient, personable and has kept me accountable to my workouts without being pushy or intrusive. And when my workout schedule has an unexpected personal blip, he is quick to provide a remedy. I highly recommend Camden! You will not be disappointed!

Dr. Alicia MacDonald is a top-tier physical therapist, and you should seek her care if you’re recovering from an injury. I was referred to her after fracturing a bone in my ankle in May 2021, and she guided my recovery for months — beginning treatment far before I was able to put weight through my foot or even drive myself to Evolution Healthcare & Fitness for treatment. Her “active recovery” approach got me moving as soon as possible during physical therapy sessions and independent home workouts.
She was an expert guide while overseeing my recovery: setting clear goals, helping me reach them and managing my expectations during roughly 11 months of care. I attribute much of my recovery to Alicia’s guidance and her excellent physical therapy plans, and I’m endlessly grateful for her work.
Further: Alicia is thoughtful, kind and personable, and I genuinely looked forward to my sessions with her. She’s a particularly great physical therapist for mountain athletes, given her background and personal interest in mountain sports. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

As an older weekend warrior who continued to windsurf well into my 50s I began to have overuse injuries and sought medical care from other PTs but was discouraged because I kept having the same problem despite following their exercises. Then in my 60s as I considered giving up windsurfing I was fortunate to be referred to Sanatan Golden and have stayed with him for the last eight years through major and minor problems. The worst injury involved shattering my kneecap which was followed with surgery, immobilization, reconditioning and depression. I was very fortunate to already have found Sanatan and although it took well over a year, under his plan I regained full use of that knee and was able to keep windsurfing without pain. Now in my seventies I have managed to avoid any more major injuries, but I continued to have episodic problems with sciatica, leg pain, shoulder pain and back pain during sports activities. So far with Sanatan and most recently with Camden, they are batting 100% and I have had good recovery from every problem I have presented them with.
Evolution is definitely a team, and in addition to therapy from Sanatan, I have had an excellent conditioning plan with Bryan who has reinforced everything that Sanatan taught me. Most recently I have been able to work with Camden, who as Sanatan’s assistant, is already totally on board with Sanatan’s treatment plan. Camden is an excellent communicator who makes sure he understands my questions and then gives me complete answers and instructions on both what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. They are a great team, and since Sanatan is in such high demand, I really appreciate Camden’s ability, affability and availability. So once the temperature of the Columbia River gets out of the low 50s, I plan to keep windsurfing well into my 70s.

I was hit and runned by a car while riding my motorcycle back in June 2020 and had a really significant knee injury -- broke my fibula, tore my ACL, meniscus, hamstring, the list goes on. Had two pretty gnarly surgeries and was out of commission for the better part of 2020 and early 2021. Did probably a year straight of PT, all told.
About 6 months ago, I reached a point that I think is familiar for a lot of people if they've undergone a serious injury: you're ~85% better, you can do some or most of the things you used to do, but it just doesn't feel "normal". It can be almost maddening: you're doing all the work, but getting that last 15% takes a lot more effort than the first 85% did, and it's enough to make you feel like there really isn't hope.
Having been summarily discharged from PT and declared "good to go" by my insurance company some months prior, I was determined to get myself back to a better place. I asked a friend of mine who had undergone multiple terrible injuries if he had any recommendations on PT specialists who might have a higher bar for recovery, and he immediately told me to call Sanatan Golden at Evolution.
My first visit with Sanatan was...different than I expected. He didn't take it easy on me. He very quickly honed in on the weakest parts of my knee. He pushed me a lot harder on my first visit than any other PT person I'd been to. He talked a lot about the mental and psychological aspects of injury as well as the very precise details of my knee's physiology and how injuries like mine affected it. At the end, he gave me very few, but very difficult, exercises.
I left pretty frustrated. I was on the verge of just throwing in the towel and never returning. But I am so, so, so glad that I did. After even just a few months of working with Sanatan, my knee has made a level of progress that I couldn't have imagined previously. I'm back to weight training daily and doing motocross, both of which were super uncomfortable even 6 months ago.
Sanatan seems to recognize that recovery isn't just a game of checking boxes on a bunch of PT exercises. It's a game of mental fortitude and finding a "new rhythm" that allows you to be consistently active every day without needing long cycles of painful recovery. It requires you doing some stuff that is uncomfortable and even unnerving. It asks you to listen to your body in a way that you probably aren't used to.
I found after working with Sanatan that I not only felt better about my knee's recovery (and made significant leaps-and-bounds recovery in a really short timeframe) but I also developed healthier habits around how I trained at the gym in general. He really blurs that line between coach and therapist that can be immensely useful if your goal is to get back to being athletic again.
Sanatan also never gave me more than a handful (like, less than a half-dozen or so) exercises to do. I think he knows that PT is boring and painful and that it's better to spend 30 minutes doing something that moves your recovery forward meaningfully faster than to spend 60 minutes going through the motions of 15 different exercises. The few exercises that he did give me were incredibly hard at first, and then insanely gratifying once I started to see progress on them. It just made the whole process more sustainable and rewarding.
Evolution as a whole has an atmosphere of targeted, intentional recovery and fitness, and everyone who works there seems to exude it. Sanatan has done more than just change my recovery trajectory -- he's changed my entire outlook on injury and fitness as a whole.
I have since met several people who have trained with and worked with Sanatan, and they have echoed this same set of sentiments. Sanatan isn't going to take it easy on you, he's not going to baby your injury, and he's not going to set your bar lower than you think it should be. But ultimately, if you're really looking to make a full recovery from a serious injury, that's what you need.
Immensely grateful to Sanatan and the entire crew at Evolution for changing my life!

I have been going to Evolution for three months now, following an ACL reconstruction. I've been working with Dr. Sanatan Golden and Camden Allison-Hall. They are both amazing at what they do, and have completely changed my body mechanics for the better. This injury is devastating, as anyone who has gone through it knows, and the mental support they have given me through recovery has been invaluable. Highly recommend!

Went in for an athletic massage with Kristen. It was by far the best massage I’ve ever gotten. With many other masseuses I’ve always had to guide them with pressure or where I’m most tense— that was not the case here. I would recommend Kristen if you’re wanting someone that is strong and has knowledge around muscles and pressure points. 10/10

I have not had very great experiences with physical therapy in the past, possibly due to my neurodivergent brain and the types of boring, repetitive, time consuming, and seemingly endless exercises I've been given. With a recurring shoulder injury due to over a decade of climbing, I reluctantly sought out yet another PT. This time I intentionally stated my needs while inquiring about services- it's not that I won't do any exercises; it's that I will be a lifelong climber, and I needed sustainable, effective exercises that I could actually incorporate into my life without spending a tedious hour+ every day.
So I'm writing this review to thank PT Jacob Stout for giving me simple, accessible, and thoughtful exercise plans that truly targeted my needs. He listened carefully, asked pertinent questions, and trusted me as an athlete and as a person who knows my own body to pick and choose what would help me most. His knowledge of the types of forces climbers put on their bodies was a huge plus in meeting my needs. My shoulder is already so much better than it has been (and it's only been 6 weeks or so), and now I also know how to care for it long term.
Additionally, and more importantly- I'm a trans masculine person, and accessing healthcare/ fitness services always feels like an anxiety inducing minefield. It is exhausting to constantly advocate for myself, explain my body and identity, answer inappropriate and invasive questions, and generally be unwelcome (yes, even in spaces that claim to be gender inclusive). But Evolution treated me with respect throughout the entire process, and Jacob in particular was immediately affirming, friendly, and not awkward or weird (like many cis men tend to be around trans people in general). I was really pleasantly surprised and the massive relief at being treated like a person is truly appreciated. It's a low bar, but unfortunately many similar businesses fall very short. Thank you, Jacob; your casual kindness really does mean more than you will probably ever know, and many others will benefit from it as well.

As an over 50 Ultimate Frisbee player I knew I had to take a new approach to playing and training. Now in my third off season with Camden Allison-Hall my fitness and approach to health has never been better. Camden's patience, knowledge of his field, and ability to communicate has been an inspiration. The relaxed atmosphere at Evolution is exactly what I need to reach my goals. Thank you Camden!

Best gym in Portland hands down! More than a gym in fact, full arsenal of doctors / nutritionists / acupuncturists / chiropractors and more. Awesome staff all around. Plus the latest and greatest equipment. Only Altitude room with a climbing wall in the country. All your fitness, training, rehab, health needs in one spot.

I have been working with Camden Allison-Hall as my trainer and fitness coach for the last 2.5 years. Camden has been super helpful at developing a customized training program that has improved my physical conditioning. This work has put me in a position where I can ski, bike, run and play Ultimate at a consistently high level.

I play ultimate frisbee and hurt my knee in early August of 2021. I immediately went into regular physical therapy for about 2 months without much luck. I felt like I was doing everything I could but seeing very little progress. I eventually got an MRI and learned that I partially tore my ACL. This was around the time when I changed physical therapists and started seeing Dr. Sanatan Golden. After just our first visit, I knew things would start looking up for my recovery. I knew I still had to put in the work, but it was clear that Sanatan would be able to help me bridge the gap between just healing my knee and being able to return to the sport that I love.
After working with Sanatan for 3 months, I was able to take off 2 months to snowboard in Colorado. After returning to Portland and working with Sanatan for another 2 months, I am back on the frisbee field. Not only have I been able to return to doing the things I love, but I have learned so much along the way and feel even more confident on the field and in the gym than I did before my injury. Sanatan is incredibly good at what he does- always making sure you understand the how and why of everything you’re working on, challenging you to put in the work, and providing clear feedback along the way. If you’re injured and worried you won’t be able to get back to the sport you love- don’t give up! I can’t recommend going to see Sanatan enough, especially for my fellow ultimate athletes.

Review for Sanatan & Camden -
Making a good recovery from an injury & surgery to regain mobility -
stregnth and flexibilility such that you can do things that make life
great takes a plan and it often requires real professional help in both
making the plan and executing it . ( sticking with it )
In my experience identifying the right Physical Therapist is KEY .
I've needed this kind of help 3 times in my life .
Once , owing to severe plantar faciatus . Again , from a frightening
case of spinal meningits , and , most recently from shoulder
surgery .
Any one of these MAY have greatly restricted my quality of life .
You have to find professionals you can believe -in .
And , ( believe me ) rehab isn't easy , and , it's a big plus when
you have a team to work with that treat you like you are not
just a number , and , you actually enjoy these appointments
even when you know it's hard - work .
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you work with Sanatan & Camden .
They are " exceptional "
I have met some of their other patients over at Evolution , or , on the golf course , or , at the MAC . Each of us has had a very good outcome
and ( interestingly enough ) have come to think of these men
as friends .
In selecting Sanatan & Camden you will be making a great choice .

Full body care under 1 roof, the gym is as extensive as it could be with equipment for weight training/ SAQ etc.. I find it good for climbing, trail running and other mountain specific training, specially when combining altitude gym!
I have visited few practitioners here over the years, Dr. Brad Farra for chiropractic needs on ankle instability/ lower back/ neck pains.. all healed within few weeks of proper care and rehab exercises prescribed. Brad has tried to understand the problem and why it may be happening before jumping into fixing it, that has meant taking scans/ xrays (if needed) and even learning daily habits that might be affecting the problem area.
I have been visiting Krista Kamann, massage therapist, regularly for several months to help improve flexibility and condition muscles that are generally stiff from daily activities. Krista listens to what you and your body needs and curates the treatment to focus towards that.

Sanatan Golden and the team at Evolution were essential partners in my journey to the Boston Marathon. Over the last four years, including 4 BQ attempts, multiple injuries and culminating in a successful 3:22 Boston finish, Sanatan has been with me every step of the way.
He has made me a smarter, healthier athlete, prepared for the challenges ahead. Sanatan isn't about quick fixes. He'll get you through the immediate pain but inspire you to work hard to get stronger in the right places to avoid injury and achieve your fitness goals.
Sanatan is always on the cutting edge of physical therapy techniques as well. His patient explanations of how "everything is connected" have been invaluable to my progression. The facilities at Evolution are top notch and provide everything you need to succeed (including an elevation chamber!).
As I get older and more ambitious with my fitness goals, I know injury will be a part of it. I also know that Sanatan will be there to push me to be a stronger, smarter, athlete.

Amazing altitude training! I just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and didn't end up taking the Diamox I had on hand. I really didn't need it. Thank you Evolution. There is not a doubt in my mind that the Hypoxico room made the difference. Eric, Brad and the whole staff were so kind and helpful! This gym is one of the best kept secrets in Portland.

I’m an active guy who’s managed several chronic issues over the years with chiropractic care and massage. Although these treatments provided temporary relief, I became quite discouraged with my lack of progress in reaching a sense of normalcy. That is, until I was referred to Dr. Sanatan Golden at Evolution Healthcare & Fitness who changed my life! Dr Golden’s approach to uncover my issues at their root cause and his explanation and instruction to create change have been unparalleled in my experience. I felt stronger, more knowledgeable and had a greater sense of hope with each visit. There was plenty of hard work along the way but today I am on a solid path to my new normalcy which allows me to experience life and challenge my body in ways that I haven’t been able to do for years. My highest praise and thanks to Dr. Golden and Evolution Healthcare & Fitness!

I have been going to Evolution for close to two years now. I rarely write reviews, but I cannot say enough good things about this place. It truly has everything. Dr. Farra is extremely knowledgeable and has literally 'fixed' me after years of hard training and three pregnancies. He doesn't just fix the injury or ailment - he looks deeper into the root cause and helps eliminate it for good. The massage therapists are top notch and have become a big part of my recovery program. I've had some of the best massages of my life at Evolution. The trainers are thoughtful and effective. Daniel is an excellent coach and works closely with Dr. Farra on any issues or injuries I may have to make sure he's specifically addressing those in my program. If you are thinking about joining evolution or considering one of the many talented practitioners or trainers, please do. You will not be disappointed.

I worked with Dr Sanatan Golden following a fall that resulted in left knee effusion and partial tears to the ACL and PCL. As a runner and triathlete, this was a devastating injury that I thought was the end of my running days. But Sanatan assured me that through mindful and dedicated physical therapy work, I could lace up my shoes again. It was a tough and had highs and also some lows, but by working through the program, in 6 months I was not only running again, but was able to fulfil a major goal of competing in the Olympic Triathlon Age Group National Championships. This felt out of the realm of possibility when I first came in to see Sanatan, but with his encouragement which helped me stay focused on the program, I was able to recover and keep running in my life.

I came to Evolution with an IT band issue and Dr. Sanatan Golden worked wonders on me. His full diagnostic helped isolate my pain point, his therapy smoothed things out, and his workouts set me up for healthy habits and strength going forward. I'm happy to recommend him and Evolution to anyone in need of solid PT.

There is a lot to love about Evolution, and probably what I love the most is the seamless integration between their healthcare and fitness facilities. It is a very cool business model, and just plain makes sense. All the providers I have worked with there are smart, caring people, accomplished athletes themselves, and they really listen. I love that they work so closely with each other, too. When I was dealing with a chronic hamstring issue earlier this year, I had my own little team from both sides of the business, all working together to identify and work to correct the root cause of the issue. Sometimes it takes a village, and when the village is all working collaboratively, it is an amazing experience.
I have worked with lots of people at Evolution and they have all been good. In particular, Brad Farra is an awesome chiropractor: he is attentive, generous and very skilled, and uses lots of different techniques and therapies to get healing on track. Jeremy Currie is an exceptionally good trainer. He is focused, tailors workouts really effectively and he is stickler for proper technique. And Julia Khvasechko is the best massage therapist I have ever gotten to work with, and wow, what a truly amazing person. Everyone at Evolution is just plain cool and they clearly love what they do.
p.s. Then there's the altitude room!!
Robert Yarnall
I had my share of poor chiropractic care in the Portland area. Most of my experiences made me feel like I just participated in an assembly line; 10-15min in-and-out the door. Thankfully I stumbled upon Evolution. Upon arrival I could not turn my head to the left past 15 degrees. My first chiropractic visit with Kelsey lasted about 90min and was a comprehensive assessment of my entire body. I walked out being able to look over my left shoulder; something I hadn’t been able to do for months. I can’t recommend her enough. Also- she’s hilarious. It’s always a good time under her care.

Last year I decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro with a group of friends. I’m the oldest of the group.
I began preparing for this 7-day, 19,000’ climb, with a “test-hike” up Mauna Kea in Hawaii in May 2019- I hiked from 9,000’ to 11,000’, huffing & puffing along the way.
I’m in fairly good shape, running or cycling nearly every day, but the idea of training for a hike over 19,000’ and dealing with the altitude was a little unnerving.
Lucky for me I discovered the Altitude Room at Evolution Healthcare & Fitness! For 3 months, I trained 3 days per week, running, spinning or walking, for an hour each session, anywhere from 11,000-17,000’.
And the morning of February 18th, 2020, I summited Mt Kilimanjaro. I had zero altitude issues- no headache, shortness of breath, fatigue or nausea. And I believe I had the easiest time of anyone in the group. I have no doubt that a lot of my success was due to the fact that I was training in the Altitude room at Evolution Healthcare & Fitness.
If you’re considering a high-altitude climb, I highly recommend training at Evolution Healthcare & Fitness.

I'm an ultrarunner with a calf issue and had a great experience working with Sanatan Golden at Evolution. I was at a point where my injury had "healed" about as much as it could on it's own, but had not fully cleared up or gotten back to original strength/previous performance. Sanatan's approach helped me learn so much about the ways my body's physics/mechanics work as a whole, and the systemic weaknesses issues beyond just my calf that were in play. His approach was eye opening, and I've now got the tools to improve my core, posture, glutes, breathing; a whole host of things I've suspected were issues but wasn't sure how to approach... plus my calf is doing great now :) Highly recommend!

I love everything I have used at this facility so far. I have been utilizing the altitude training room since September and have definitely noticed a difference--even at sea level. Everybody is super friendly and helpful and the facility is top notch. On the healthcare side of things I am seeing Brad Farra for chiropractic and Eric Fair-Layman for massage. Both are great at keeping my body in tip-top shape for the stresses I put on it. Having this group of like minded practitioners under one roof is awesome.

Several years ago I sprained my ankle and after a lousy visit to a podiatrist, found Brad Farra at Evolution Healthcare. He is incredible at talking through the mechanics of movements and what likely is the cause of injury. He used many different techniques to heal and strengthen my sprain, and gave me exercises to increase the strength of stabilizing muscles to prevent similar injuries in the future. I've seen him for different issues as well and each time I've been extremely satisfied with the care he provides. The office is also fun to visit, as it is very modern and clean, and attached to a great gym facility!

I've been working with Dr. Brad Farra over the past few months on several scapular and rib related injuries. He's been fantastic at developing a recovery plan for me that works around the training and performance periods I have for climbing and mountaineering. It's very comforting to work with someone who has quality experience as a climber and endurance athlete. He knows what stresses I subject my body to, and understands how climbing works.
I've used the gym and altitude room a few times and it is a fantastic resource to have in the Portland area. The gym is well equipped and very clean. The altitude room is equally well-outfitted and a very beneficial training asset for those that spend time in the alpine. That said, the benefits of the room are not restricted to those spending time at altitude. It can have many positive effects for those that never leave sea level. I highly recommend both the healthcare and fitness components at Evolution!

Leah is an amazing and supportive coach! Her love and passion for climbing really shine through in her climbing technique, economy and endurance class. It is great for beginners or even those who are a bit more experienced but have never had any formal training in technique. Since Leah keeps the class small, there is time for one on one assessment that is tailored to your specific climbing goals. The actual climbing aspect is done on the climb station in the altitude room so you even get the benefits of training at altitude! The 5-week format was great for tracking progress and building on the previous weeks’ skills, she was even able to work in some self-care practices. At the end of the 5 weeks I walked away with some great new skills and heightened awareness to practice on and off the wall. If you’ve been thinking about ways to dial in your climbing technique, don’t hesitate! Gift yourself this series.

Evolution has something for everyone who is looking to heal, reduce pain, and improve overall strength and fitness. I have seen quite a few healthcare professionals in my life and have never come across the quality of care and results I have received here at Evolution. Everyone else I spoke with here has also been great.
I came in with a sprained hamstring and chronic elbow pain that I just learned to live with. I came in a month before a planned climbing trip, ready to cancel the trip. Brad Farra gave me the reassurance that I needed that he and I would both try our best to heal by the "deadline". As an active person, I have always needed this kind of reassurance, level of confidence, and feeling of commitment from my healthcare professionals - I have never received them until here. Brad's laser and graston technique immediately improved my elbow. With that and his prescribed exercises, I was climbing literally pain-free in my elbow just 4 days after. Both Brad and Lynne Pedersen were quick to identify the issues and provide the right kind of therapy to get me back to feeling strong and being active. My hamstring/knee has improved quickly and I went from not being able to even drive to having no noticeable pain in my daily life in just 2 visits with each of them. Even when my appointment time had gone over, they always concluded the session without me feeling rushed. I will definitely be coming back even after my current injuries for preventative and maintenance measures. I highly recommend this place.

I come here regularly for their chiropractic care. They do a great job! Not only do they do the care in making the adjustments to fix the problem, they also tech how to do certain movements to help prevent the problem.
My wife and i have also used their massage care. The masseuse did a great job and also gave us tips on how to prevent tension from developing in the first place.

My cycling team did a series of 10-15 strength training classes with Jes Dahl at Evolution during our off-season and we loved them so much that we signed up for two more series of them. Jes is a total pro - she had fresh new circuits and exercises planned for us every week that were tailored to our sport, she explained and demonstrated every exercise, and was very attentive to everyone's form and technique to make sure we were doing them correctly and safely. It was *incredible* to me what a difference this training made in my riding. Great gym, great staff, great results.

Evolution is an excellent establishment for anyone trying to improve their training, fitness, and overall wellness. They have a friendly and knowledgeable staff on both the fitness and healthcare sections of the facility. The gym and altitude room are extremely clean and well maintained.
The personal trainers offer great individual and small group sessions geared towards a myriad of fitness levels. Strong emphasis on proper form and specific strengthening exercises ensures you're getting the most out of each session.
I'm most passionate about endurance trail running. Training in the altitude room shows tremendous benefits for running races at sea level and in the mountains. I used the altitude room regularly while training for a race in the Swiss Alps last year. My performance in the beautiful Alps was significantly enhanced from this training. I'm still utilizing the altitude room to continuously improve endurance performance.
Awesome to meet others that care about their health and enjoy working towards similar goals. Thank you to all the staff at Evolution!

Short version: Brad Farra (Chiro and PT) and Krista Lamann (Massage) at Evolution Healthcare and Fitness are fantastic!
Long version: I was involved in a car accident end of July in which I got T-boned which resulted in a cervical and thoracic spine injury.
My pain level was initially pretty high while the range of motion was very limited. This prevented me from getting restful sleep and also working effectively.
Around 2weeks after the accident I saw Brad Farra for the first treatment and he explained the type of injury, MOI, rehabilitation plan and timeline and started me on PT exercises, stretches and massages.
Krista helped with weekly massages to work through the scar tissue, increase comfort and range of motion.
I'm almost back to where I was before but not quite yet the level from before but I'm on a great trajectory to recover fully.
Krista & Brad - Thank you!

I couldn't be more pleased with my services at Evolution Healthcare and Fitness and have truly never felt more authentic comfort, compassion and guidance in a medical setting. I started seeing Dr. Brad Farra weekly about 8 months ago, and he has dramatically changed my body and life. Here's the story... I'm a rock climber and had been experiencing progressively more "unexplainable" wrist pain over the course of a few months that developed out of "nowhere" and wouldn't go away with the usual RICE protocol. I saw two different specialists over the course of a few months who couldn't tell me what was wrong. Climbing is my life's current joy and obsession, so I was feeling utterly helpless until a friend recommended I see Brad. I thought I wouldn't be able to afford his services, but whomever I spoke to during that first phone call went above and beyond to help me work out insurance logistics - can't thank them enough for that gentle kindness! From the get-go Brad has been professional, compassionate and a downright pleasure to get to know. I have never once felt condescension, rushed or that apathetic vibe that happens so often elsewhere in medical settings. The sense that he truly cares about his clients is ever present in each and every session. He has remained sensitive to my needs ensuring that I feel safe and comfortable after I explained I had had poorly communicated chiropractic services with a previous doctor in the past (as a female patient, this is so important to me!) He's patiently answered every one of my listless questions while expertly educating me about my injuries and related muscle groups, and empowering me to take care of my body from a holistic perspective. What I have most gratitude for is his ability to stay hopeful when I, and the injury, felt hopeless. His positive attitude kept me patient in the process and with about 8-10 weeks of rehab and training, I was back on the walls. No less, I am a stronger and smarter climber thanks to Brad! Truly a gem in the medical rough.

I would highly recommend Cameron Li at Evolution Healthcare & Fitness for acupuncture. My first visit was after experiencing some knee pain after the Portland Marathon. The atmosphere was very relaxing and he was genuinely concerned about my total well being. I felt better after treatment and hardly noticed any pain and soreness. I will definitely be returning!

I've been taking Brian's Olympic Lifting class every week for about 5 months now and absolutely love it! I went from a beginner with weightlifting to feeling confident doing the lifts on my own, adding on weights, hitting new PRs, and gaining so much insight into the lifts! Brian is a phenomenal instructor - he not only has the knowledge and experience to back him up, but he's observant and insightful when it comes to figuring out what I need to work on specifically. Plus, it's fun, challenging, and an awesome space to workout it. I recommend Evolution to people regularly!

Prior to visiting Evolution Healthcare I lived each day in fear that I would aggravate a pinched nerve in my back and be debilitated. Dr. Sanatan Golden was able to quickly diagnose difficulties with my physical system that were compounding my back issue and put together a plan to alleviate pain while increasing my flexibility. Concurrently, he designed a plan to incrementally increase my strength to prevent future "attacks" and stabilize the points of weakness. A year after my first visit I feel stronger and healthier than I have in several years and (while I of course still have multiple herniated discs) no longer live each day in fear of aggravating the injury. I highly recommend Evolution and Dr. Golden for any issue you have. They will not only improve your aggregate health but can help one avoid the allure of possible surgery.

I have been going to Brad for a couple years now for my climbing injuries. After his amazing treatment of my hamstring injury a couple of years ago I won't go to anyone else. His ability to diagnose, treat and steer you on the right path to healing and preventing further injuries is amazing. What sets him apart is his knowledge for preventing and strengthening your injury not only healing it but making sure its stronger and that it wont occur again. His new facility is beautiful and you can really tell he didn't take any shortcuts putting it together along with finding friendly and helpful staff I cant think of a better place get an injury treated. This is the only healthcare facility that is easy for me to recommend when anyone I meet is having some kind of tightness, injury, or general discomfort. "Go see Brad so he can fix you"

I started at Evolution lifting with Jeremy Currie following an injury to help strengthen as I recovered. Not only did Jeremy help me recover from my injury but he also has helped me become stronger and a better runner. I have never trained with someone who has so much knowledge and understanding. Jeremy has helped me strengthen my weak spots, rather than what I have done in the past (which was strengthen my strong spots--unknowingly!). The gym has such a great vibe with everyone being extremely supportive. I love working with other people who have similar goals and push me to reach my potential. Plus, the gym is clean and welcoming.
Nicole Rappaport
I used the altitude training room for a couple months and loved the experience. It was a little nerve wracking my first time, but once I got used to it, it was pretty great. It provided a fantastic workout to help me train for hiking the Salkantay trek in Peru. Next year I'm doing Kilimnajaro and I'll be back at Evolution to help train for that too. There's no gym like it anywhere in the Portland area. Great concept that provides a unique workout experience at reasonable prices.

Krista is singlehandedly changing my life through massage therapy. She is extremely knowledgeable and attentive, she finds the root of the problems and works with me to correct it, heal, and prevent future issues. I came to her with neck and back pain from bad posture and computer work and I already feel like a new woman. Highly recommended! Thank you Krista & Evolution Healthcare!

The only clinic who has really succeeded long term in fixing my many ailments, the chiropractors are the best in town.
********
UPDATE - After a grueling 11 months of rehab following a spinal fusion due to a severe compression fracture in my thoracic spine, I went from bed-ridden/can't sleep/barely able to walk/horrific pain to fully recovered. Less than a year since my accident, thanks to countless hours of chiro (Dr. Montserrat Andreys, Dr. Adam Goulet) and physical therapy (Dr. Sanatan Golden and Dr. Kyle Green) from this clinic, I'm now able to carry a full backpacking pack of 35 pounds, climb to the top of mountains again with 6k elevation gain, rock climb at my previous level, do yoga, and much more. I've in fact gained more flexibility than what I had before I got injured. I would be nowhere near this level of improved without their help. You still have to put your time in, and do your home exercises; don't give up! I also had outside help from an acupuncturist who helped with getting blood and healing to the area as well.
They are empathetic, push your limits, and give you specific exercises targeting exactly what your goals are. The clinic is absolutely tailored for athletes who want to push their body to be better than before.
Jacek Wiktorowicz
This clinic brings patient care, customer service, innovation in treatment, and cleanliness of the facility to an entire new level. I can only hope that others, working in the medical field, will follow their example. I have couple of my injuries treated at this place. Dr. Brad Farra, Dr. Adam Goulet and Dr. Montserrat Andres exceeded my expectations. Not only they were able to get me back on my feet quickly and efficiently but also improved my range of motion and core muscle strength. They work together, adjusting to patient schedule. Entire stuff in the facility is really kind and friendly no matter how busy they are at the moment. Ms. Seals who works the front desk is simply AMAZING - kind, humble, detail oriented, and gets things done before you even ask for it.

Evolution fitness is an athletes paradise! This is a world class facility filled with extremely a professional staff. As an ultra trail runner, I really enjoy the challenge of the altitude room, especially when turned up to an altitude of 16k ft. Also, the chiropractic staff have been a instrumental in making sure that my body is fine-tuned for all of the abuse it will endure. Thank you Evolution for creating such an awesome environment for endurance athletes!

I first contacted Sanatan Golden at Evolution Healthcare 2.5 years ago for shoulder pain. Right way, Sanatan spent time understanding my environment and the activities I’m involved with. After the first appointment, I had a good understanding of the cause of the pain and detailed steps to recover from it. With each session, I was given more complex exercises and saw improvement in the pain. The recovery was so successful, that I wanted to do a full end-to-end look at where I can improve physically to be healthy. I have a career that requires 50+ hours a week, married, and 2 young kids. After 2.5 years of working with Sanatan I have exercises that will keep me flexible, make me stronger, and is also sustainable for my lifestyle.
With Sanatan, you will find that he is challenging and very encouraging. I know that he’s passionate about what he does and cares for the health of his patients. If you’re finding that your in pain and unsure how to move forward, I recommend contacting him. He will find something that works for you so that you can improve the quality of your life.
In addition to Sanatan, the whole staff at Evolution Healthcare and Fitness is stellar. I also worked with Jeremy Curry who was part of solution in me getting stronger. He has classes that are affordable and that provide expert training along with a great workout!

I've been using the altitude room for workouts and high intensity interval training classes 1-3 times per weeks for 9 months. Noticeable improvements on endurance. Great place to simulate high altitudes. Was only planning on using Evolution for a few months during winter but I keep going because I get quality workouts in the altitude room. Hours and locations are convenient. Staff is great. Machines are always working, never out of order. Price is very reasonable too. No long-term commitments, only pay for what you use so very flexible.

Evolution is a revolutionary place of wonder and transformation. The Facility is staffed by world class practitioners, equipment and world record holders . I have been finding my potential and strength for 6 months. I have a team behind me of Personal Trainers including the amazing Daniel Silver, Sports Chiropractors with my personal Chiro Adam Goulet being an Amazing Triathlete, and the best Massage Therapist I have ever had John Knight. This is not a gym it's an experience with powerful motivation from each and every staff member who want you to succeed and find your untapped potential. You stay motovated when you workout side by side with sponsored athletes who inspire you and give you motivation every step of the way. I just came out of Physical Therapy and now I am accomplishing feats I have either never done before or not having done them for atleast 10 years. All of this while building a resilient body and with athleticism. Do yourself the greatest favor you could and go to Evolution and see yourself succeed.

For nearly 7 years, I have been a patient of Dr. Brad Farra. His treatment tools and techniques target aches, pains and sore spots leading to a quick recovery. I have never received better treatment! Additionally, he promotes healthy habits and lifestyle choices for preventative maintenance. Treatment with Dr. Farra is also educational including tips in training and nutrition. My wife is also an advocate for the staff at Evolution Healthcare and Fitness. She benefits from chiropractic care and acupuncture on a regular basis. Through my experience, Evolution Healthcare and Fitness is highly recommended for any Northwest lifestyle.

I have to say I'm currently one of Evolution's sponsored athletes/ambassadors, but I wouldn't be if this wasn't such an excellent facility. The staff are great, super friendly and helpful. The altitude training is off the hook awesome. The altitude room is the only one in the US with a ClimbStation climbing treadmill in it. So climbing at altitude will melt the fat off and has increased my fitness. I've been impressed with the trainers and am currently taking the Strength Training for Endurance Athletes with Val. She's great. I'm getting excellent assistance and top notch training by taking this class. It's a group class but she gives individual focus to bring out the best in me. Overall 5 stars from Plaid. - Scott "Plaid" Peterson

I cannot say enough good things about the care I received from Sanatan Golden at Evolution Fitness. I had a major talus fracture that resulted in two surgeries and three screws put into my ankle. I can say a year post op my ankle is about 85% healed (and this percentage keeps growing) with the help of Sanatan's expertise. He balanced challenging me while also providing support and validation for the hard work it takes to recover from an injury. I am immensely grateful that I was able to have this experience to facilitate my healing process and get me back to all of the acitivites that bring my life meaning and joy. I cannot thank Dr. Golden or this health care facility enough! Would highly recommend to anyone dealing with an injury or wanting to improve their overall wellbeing!
Adam Rosenscruggs
I've been working with Dr. Sanatan Golden at Evolution for several months now, initially working to treat, and now prevent, some chronic injuries I experienced while running. I'm not a professional athlete, and I'm not even a particularly fast runner. I don't have an athletic background either - I just like running, and I started running later in life - in my early 30s. Before coming to Dr. Golden, I was starting to become convinced that the groin and knee injuries I kept experiencing were just a fact of my running life. He showed me that I was very, very wrong about that. I now run pain-free, pretty much as often as I want. I'm faster, stronger, and more confident every time I step out for a run.
I'm sure you can go to a lot of PTs and get that kind of success, but Sanatan isn't just a physical therapist - though he's a damn good one - he's a teacher. He is extremely good at explaining to you what is going awry in your body and how what he teaches you will fix it. I leave every session knowing more about my body than when I walked in. I really can't recommend him highly enough, even if you're just a casual athlete like me who loves a sport and can't figure out how to do it without getting hurt. He can teach you.

Rock Steady Boxing at Evolution Fitness is the best! The trainer David is awesome at providing individualized attention within a group class setting. It surpasses my previous Parkinson’s specific physical therapy in every way! The group classes are fun, they provide an environment where we can build relationships while sharing our personal experiences and challenges with the disease. David encourages us to push ourselves while staying within our personal comfort zones.
David is an athlete, has multiple certifications and is a licensed Physical Therapist as well, so you are in very good hands!
I’m so happy Ive found this class and have shared David’s/Rock Steady class information with my Neurologist as an additional resource.
Thanks for providing David’s expertise and this awesome class!!

I'm so glad I found this place! I started with an amazing physical therapist who helped me get rid of my chronic back pain in just 6 months. Then I started working with a personal trainer because I was encouraged to explore my physical potential. I also see a world class acupuncturist as well. They are a one stop shop. I also appreciate how many women they have on staff. Thank you!!
Leslie
I have been going to Evolution Healthcare and Fitness for several years. First class facility! Montserrat and Brad helped me recover quickly from minor injuries, also preventing them from becoming bigger. This past summer I utilized the Altitude Room to help prepare for a personal challenge of finishing the Leadville 100 MTB. Because of the altitude room I adjusted quickly to the 10,000ft elevation in Leadville. This gave me a big jump start acclimating!
Corie Traylor
I've always felt welcome and supported at EHCF. The staff and trainees are incredible. they care about what they do, and they always, always have smiles on their faces.
The Altitude Room is one of a kind- seriously, Olympic caliber training in rainy Portland- why would I train anywhere else?
To top it all off, the Healthcare side is awesome! I've had Chiro & Naturopath & Massage there and all of my experiences have been wonderful.
AND! It's the cleanest place I've ever trained!
Ryan Goodyear
Never been a gym guy, but Evolution is so much more welcoming and laid back than any other gym I've tried. I race in Bend twice a year, so I'm all about the altitude room. It has noticeably helped me in my racing. These guys rock.
Joe Cuffney
Evolution is a great place to train! I started working with Brian Krupke at Evolution a few months ago and have been loving it. Brian has done a great job crating workouts that I can do but push me, and constantly making sure I stick to the proper form. The gym has everything you could need! Would highly recommend.

When I get injured I'm always trying to understand exactly what is happening to my body so that I can address the issues the fix the problem. I'm not always able to get to this level of understanding when I see most physical therapists however the two injuries that I have seen Dr. Sanatan Golden for, he has been able to precisely identify what is happening. Sometimes it is over my head and feels overwhelming, but it gives me peace of mind to know that he understands what it happening and what is keeping me from performing at my best. His incredible wealth of knowledge about the human body and how everything works together is astounding and I'm always put on the path to recovery when I see him. I have full faith and trust in the process which gives me the confidence that the assignments and exercises hey has me doing are right steps towards recovery.
Dr. Sanatan Golden is the best physical therapist in this city and I hope I don't have to see him in his office anytime soon, but if I do, I know that he will help get me back on the road to recover.
Chris Morse
Tom Morse here. I am giving Sanatan Golden at Evolution Healthcare and Fitness my highest possible rating. I have worked with Sanatan through years of experiences, and his ability as a diagnostician and teacher, his incredible ability to demonstrate the most refined of muscular techniques, and simply the EFFECTIVENESS of his exercises have me recommending him to anyone with musculoskeletal issues. For neck - I had 2 different fusion surgeries, the for the second I had been losing all use of my left arm. Through carefully advancing therapy I have regained full use of my left arm and 45% or so of bicep strength. When I have 'spider crawling' sensations in neck and shoulders, Sanatan worked with me on incredibly delicate AND effective neck excersises to strengthen muscles along the vertebrae I had no clue I had!! The sensations have disappeared, y and when slight recurrences happen they disappear when I re-apply of Sanatan's simple techniques. When I badly injured my right outside calf with full-thickness skin loss, a series of again carefully timed/scaled exercises have brought back full function along the entire leg. I brought my wife to Sanatan after her hip replacement last summer and he is rapidly restoring her abnormal gait. I am now convinced that many back surgeries and other procedures could be avoided or certainly delayed and function restored by seeing of a deeply skilled DPT like Sanatan. When at the gym talking with others with neck or other surgeries that complain about the surgery not going well, I ask if they had PT post surgery - 'No, not recommended'. No WONDER they had impaired movement after surgery. If you had ANY doubts, see Sanatan for at least ONE session. Our healthcare insurance does not cover his services (outside HMO), but his abilities so far outstrip our insurance-paid providers that we pay out of pocket, with thanks. His incredible focus on your issues, his excellent teaching, continued examples and checking of your position and execution of exercises, and encouragement create a top notch experience! THANK you, Sanatan, for YEARS of OUTSTANDING PT progress with me and my wife!
Tracey Biebel
Sanatan Golden is a remarkable Physical Therapist. I have gone to other wonderful PT's in town, and he stands head and shoulders above them. I have had chronic pain in my left hip and lower back for years (since childbirth 13 yrs ago!) and am now, for the first time in SO long, pain free. He also helped address some other pains and limitations I was having (shoulder, arm, calf) and I am now able to do SO MUCH MORE in my day to day life, not to mention at the gym (I do crossfit). He is also simply a delightful human. The office is also wonderful and very easy to work with.
The Monkey Show
I'm so glad I discovered this place! I've been using the Altitude Training Room consistently for about two months, and in a relatively short period of time, my running performance @ the half marathon distance has improved. It's also benefited my recovery following three half marathon races in the last month! If you're skeptical or you have any questions, give them a call! The staff @ EH&F are truly professional, and specialist in their diverse fields of healthcare.

I commute to work on my bicycle, have been for some time. This past fall I started having a quiet, nagging pain in my knee. I thought it would go away, but after several weeks it was only getting worse. My commute takes me past Evolution Healthcare & Fitness, so I looked into their physical therapy. I am very glad I did! I have been working with Dr. Sanatan Golden and he has done a superb job getting me back on track. Thank you!

I'll give this review chronologically. i started with a physical therapist who misdiagnosed me and gave me exercises that made my pain worse.
the worst of it was the chiropractor i then sought treatment from who told me my pain would be cured in three sessions. 12 sessions later, i became dependent on the 5 hours of relief i would get from the adjustments which graduated from weekly to twice a week sessions and included various suggestions including sleeping in a way that was totally unnatural to me with a belt tightly around my hips. i am actually furious at the negligent chiropractor which I believe actually did more damage. the chiropractor also gradually began showing up later and later for our appointments, at one point getting me 15 minutes into a 30 minute appt which i told her was unacceptable given that it was my lunch break. that was the final straw, i didn't return to her.
i sought acupuncture from my ND who suggested I try another physical therapist. Since this place is close to my house, and offers integrated care, i decided to return to a new provider and luckily Sanatan had an opening. i began to see him after about 9 months of progressively worsening SI joint pain (treated by 4 other providers, 4 other methods) that caused me pain in my sleep which severely affected my mood and overall wellness. i was depressed and hopeless, my sleep was awful, and i was considering surgery. I had stopped doing yoga and running and was miserable because of it, but had to because i didn't know if it was making the pain worse. I think Sanatan and I began working together in October. By February I was pain free. Over the course of those months, his steady, consistent care was simple but effective. He started with VERY basic exercises and built on them as we went along. I slowly got better, very slowly and sometimes there were steps backwards. But he was faithful to building the muscles and doing the repair the right way and trusting the knowledge the body was giving us even when i was in pain. Outside of his expertise and knowledge, Sanatan spoke to the mental aspects of being out of my physical fitness routine and when the treatment made modest gains or i had pain after periods of progress, he instilled hope. and THAT was the real curative element. he was confident in the knowledge that he builds his practice on and attuned to the mental aspects that made every difference in the treatment. there were times i expected he would say, yes, just go for surgery and he NEVER gave up hope that i could have a full recovery. and i have.
if this review was just his care, it would be 5+ stars. it's too bad those other providers couldn't offer the same care. but if you're in pain, and Sanatan has openings, i cannot recommend him highly enough.

This place is incredible !! My only surprise is that it took this long for someone to finally combine effective healthcare with state of the art fitness training and instruction.... !! When I first heard about Evolution, I thought, "Of course! It just makes so much sense!" Evolution takes this concept and delivers admirably.
The altitude training room is perfect, and WAY more affordable than Club Sport!
I've seen Brad for chiropractic treatment a couple times and just in a few visits I've seen significant positive results that far exceeded my expectations.
What impresses me the most is that the people staffing both the fitness and healthcare portions of the facility are active themselves, and by virtue of training and personal experience are able to speak to specific questions that most other healthcare professionals can't answer. I have struggled to find a healthcare professional that can answer my questions about climbing and high altitude mountaineering, but Brad was able to do so within the first 10 min of my first visit. :)
I can't recommend this place enough... :)

I have been consistently been impressed with Dr. Farra's work with me and other members of my family. He uses traditional chiropractic adjustments, graston technique, and laser therapy. I appreciate that he does not just treat symptoms, but gets to the root of the problem. In addition, he communicates clearly what the patient's responsibility is in the healing process. I have benefited from the home exercises he has given me. I am also confident that he will refer me to another health care provider if he thinks it will be beneficial.

I never thought i would walk correctly again let alone run after developing Planters Fascistic at 54-years old. Working with Santan with PT, Julia with Massage Therapy, Adam with Chiropractic and Danielle with Dry Needling I finally beat it. This was after 18 months of doctors saying there is not much we can do. It was not easy, it required commitment on my part and the hard work paid off. Santan directed my program and his knowledge of how the body works is exceptional. I am an average guy who does Endurance events. Don't give up if your have PF as there is hope and the team at Evolution can make it happen. Thank you so much for helping me get my active, competitive life back. The key to overcoming PF was trusting the program and committing to self-care at home between visits. Santan taught me to "take inventory" each morning to see if I was better than the previous day. If yes, move froward and if no then step back a day. This was hard work and it pays off. I have completed a Full Ironman and several other Tri's. It requires hard work and commitment to beat this and under the direction of the team at Evolution I am back to competing.

Seeing Dr. Farra was the best decision I ever made for my functionality. After trying other chiropractors, abstaining from using my arm, massage and enduring pain for years he was able to ELIMINATE my chronic shoulder blade and deltoid pain after a few visits. My insurance covered the treatments as well. I live in Beaverton and know it is worth the trip for success!!

Altitude gym was fantastic! Lots of machines to choose from and plenty of space as well. Really helped with our trekking and climbing trip to Peru!

I want tot start by saying that making the choice to see Sanatan Golden at Evolution Health Care and Fitness was the best thing I could have done for myself. Like many, I began experiencing severe back pain and spasms and why unsure how or why it was happening. I had done nothing specific I could pinpoint that would be causing the pain. I work as a nurse, love being active and attend crossfit frequently during the week. At first I tried to ignore it thinking it would just go away, but after months it was still a problem and was really affecting my sleep. I mentioned my back pain to the owner of my crossfit and she recommended Sanatan. I was hesitant at first, worried I might get judged for doing crossfit or my uncertainty as to why I was in so much pain but I finally took the leap. After the first session all my worries were gone. Sanatan not only listened to me but made goals to fit me, my lifestyle and made aspects of crossfit a part of it. His ultimate goal was to get me back to the things I wanted to do most. Getting adequate sleep being a big one :). It took work and commitment on my part but he was always available to answer any questions and was always genuinely interested in my progress. I am walking away from this experience not only pain free but much more knowledgeable on how I can better care for myself in the future to avoid being in the same situation. I am thankful to Sanatan and Evolution Health Care and Fitness and so glad I chose to bring physical therapy into my life.
Highly recommend you give them a try as well.

I injured my foot while hiking last winter, resulting in a severe case of plantar fasciitis. I was referred to Sanatan Golden at Evolution Healthcare by my husband, a family physician, who also had plantar fasciitis that healed with treatment under Dr. Golden. Under Sanatan’s care, my foot healed and is healthy again. Being both a physical therapist and a runner himself, he has a very thorough understanding of the mechanics of the legs and feet, and the program he developed for me reflected this. It took time and diligence on my part, but he assured me that my injury would heal, and it did. In the process, I also learned a lot about how feet function and what it takes to keep them strong. I love to walk, hike and play tennis. Those activities were severely curtailed while I healed, but I am back doing all of them now and am completely pain free. My foot feels like a normal foot again! I would also add that Sanatan was supportive throughout the therapy and was also responsive to my concerns and questions, whether in person or by email. I highly recommend Sanatan Golden.

Are you an athlete, especially an older one? Maybe you're not an athlete, and you've got pain and malfunction in your body. Or perhaps you want to improve your performance and in particular the relationship between Mind and Body. Brad Fara is your man.
I started playing competitive sports in 4th grade and kept playing all the way through college. It's been decades of running, biking, judo, karate, weight lifting. I still pound away at 78 years old. Plenty of injuries. Seen an army of health professionals. I can tell you that Brad Fara is the BEST you'll find. Here's why.
He's one of the smartest guys in town. His listening and analytical skills are superb. He's a dedicated athlete himself. Navy Rescue Swimmer, relentless mountain climber. We're talking sports injury and body recovery from somebody who gets it because he's done it. He's not just a one-trick healer. He deploys a variety of technologies and is very careful to match the right technology to your issues and needs. Like I said: one smart guy.
Brad's Evolution Health Care is a unique environment. Indeed, a BODY UNIVERSITY, with a gym, trainers, acupuncturists, and chiropractic. You not only can heal your body or improve performance there, you can gain a deeper understanding of who you are.

I chose this place to rehab my ruptured achilles. Under Dr. Sanatan Golden I feel that I have fully recovered back to my prior abilities. As a former collegiate athlete I am still pretty competitive and working out is a big part of my life. After the surgery I was pretty down in the dumps. What separates Dr. Golden is that he understands the importance of treating the whole patient. A lot of my rehab was mental and just required me to build confidence in my repaired achilles. Dr. Golden did just that and now I am back competing in recreation leagues and training as hard as I used to.

I've been going to Evolution for a bit over a year now. This place has it all! Chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncture, physical therapists, naturopaths, and a gym.
I started seeking treating at Evolution for a Workers Comp injury, but I love these guys so much that I've gone back anytime I have a new injury or just need an adjustment.
The doctors there are super friendly, professional, and they actually care for their patients' well-being. I gatta give a shout-out to Montserrat (chiro), Sanatan (physical therapy), and Brian (massage therapy). Thank you for everything!
Evolution Healthcare & Fitness is amazing!!

This place has everything you could want - a top notch fitness area with fantastic trainers and small group classes, including an altitude room with treadmills and stairclimbers. The healthcare side provides chiropractors, acupuncturists, naturopaths, physical therapists and my personal favorite, massage therapists! I highly recommend Brian Barthelemy. He provided a deep tissue massage that was perfectly tailored for all my aches and pains. He is absolutely amazing, as is everything else about this top notch facility.

I found evolution through a small early morning news blip. It grabbed my attention because of the altitude room they were describing. My wife and I are going to be hiking the JMT in August so this seemed liked an excellent way to see where we stand for training at elevation. I have gone 2 times so far and staff is very friendly. Trained at over 14,000' today and it was awesome, definitely the first 20min are real tough as the body tries to adjust. but after about 30-40min things feel good. I noticed the difference in my HRM for the amount of activity compared to sea level. I always recommend a good HRM, your favorite pandora and go, only thing missing is the outdoors but no way around that. I do most of my training outdoors, running stairs, bleachers, burps, push-ups, pull-ups, etc but the evolution altitude training room has been a great addition to my program and I will be back!
Thanks, Cameron.

I first started PT with Sanatan Golden after a bad sports injury. I had required surgery after dislocating my hip and breaking my pelvis. Once I was off of crutches, I began to see Sanatan with a goal to one day play ultimate again. Sanatan knew of my goals and was very clear with me about the process.
Sanatan is a great physical therapist. He is very clear with instruction and explains his reasoning for every stretch, exercise, and activity. Every day was something different so I never got into a rut or boring routine. As my body progressed and got stronger, Sanatan did a great job of adjusting the routines and exercises to align to my goals. He helped me learn to listen to my body during and after our sessions, something I really appreciated. Another unique aspect is his use of google docs. He would put exercises and ‘homework’ on the document so that I always had a reference of what workouts and sessions to do on my own. When I first hurt myself I was told by the doctor that I may not be able to play ultimate again but Sanatan worked hard with me and after 6 months I was cleared to play again. I can’t say enough good things about Sanatan Golden as a physical therapist

Such a wonderful facility! I started training at Evolution healthcare & fitness in June, and have seen amazing results. I've been training in the altitude room, rotating from cardio to climbing intervals on the climb station. I highly recommend the altitude room to anybody looking to train for any sport. Also, I recently had IV therapy at Evolution by Dr. Vander Ploeg, and it helped me feel completely re-energized. Everybody is so kind and knowledgable there!

If you have resigned yourself to discomfort or pain because of an old injury, or if you have given up hope of ever getting out of a fitness dead end, or if you just want to reach a new training goal safely, go train with Scott Plested. He is passionate about form, observant and patient, and he cares about his clients. I had given up on an old rotator cuff injury, assuming that it would always hurt. After several months of training, I am not only pain free but I am lifting more weight, doing more pull-ups than I have in years and have gained more functional strength than I had even before the injury.
Christopher Aldassy
I was encouraged to see Sanatan Golden by another patient of his. After several months of chronic pain in my elbow and index finger from climbing injuries that would not heal I needed to do something different. I came in with what I thought was tennis elbow and a torn finger tendon. Sanatan created a treatment plan to stimulate a healing response in those troubled areas. He knows how the body works and heals and explained every aspect of the process. He taught me specific variations of exercises that have strengthened exactly what needed strengthening without aggravating my damaged tissue. If you have a lingering injury that you think should heal, but for whatever reason isn't, Sanatan is the man.

I can't say enough good things about Evolution. The many healthcare professions all collaborate so that you are provided with the best care possible. I have had many different treatments which all resulted in complete relief for me. Whether you have a sports related injury or age related problems they are well equipped to solve any problem. The gym is a big asset for the Doctors and therapists. The facility is always tidy and clean and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I'm a runner with a Patellar Tendon injury from over-use and failure to warm up with a shocking lack of knowledge of recovery for an athlete. Dr. Sanatan Golden taught me to be a "student of the body", and for the first time in my life, I understood injured tissues and how to heal them. I'm grateful for at least two maxims of his; "Your PT exercises are your medicine!", and "If you don't have time to warm up, you don't have time to train!"

I entered with skepticism and left a believer. The massage team is well informed with an arsenal of medical mind-body knowledge and the compassion to ally chronic pain and physical suffering. The massages challenge the facia tissue and release the underlying tension. This is probably one of the most "intelligent" massage studios I've been to: each session unravels the complex problem of PTSD and severe impact trauma. Highly recommend for those with complex impact injuries and muscle injury.
Jared Rose
I cannot say enough great things about the bodywork of Eric Fair-Layman. I started seeing Eric in late Dec 2015 as part of my rehab from a calf injury sustained training for an ultramarathon., the root cause of which was extremely tight hamstrings putting added stress on gastroc. Eric's deep release techniques (literally walking on my hamstrings) were like nothing I'd ever seen and while the first session hurt like hell (he likened it to slack lining on my hamstrings), I began to see immediate results in my range of motion, flexibility and releasing of the tension on my gastroc and knee in general. After a 6-week layoff and regular treatment from Eric (as well as Dr. Montserrat) I was back on the trails feeling stronger than ever. I've continued to see Eric 1-2 times per month as ongoing bodywork and both his in-clinic treatments and at-home stretches he shows me are fantastic and working wonders for me. If you're looking for a massage that delivers results, go see Eric. It will hurt, it will not be "fun" and it will work!

Evolution Fitness is far beyond your typical health and fitness facility. They are very friendly and provide a community vibe vs a gym or clinic. Everyone there is always looking to help you achieve your goals and better yourself mentally and physically.
zachary olson
I'm working with Brian getting ready for an obstacle course run. Brian is a fantastic trainer who knows how to tailor a workout for your needs. He knows how to coax the effort out and make sure you are doing everything correctly and safely. As a bonus he makes it fun!

I’ve been to Evolution twice for Thai Massage and it’s been a terrific experience both times. Julia and DJ know how to work with athletes and hone in on problem areas right away. I walk out feeling much better than when I walk in. I’ll definitely be back.
Ryan Seely
What a great experience for training for altitude. I just summited Mt. Kilimanjaro with the help of the staff at Evolution. I was definitely more prepared for the climb and the altitude than my fellow climbers. The altitude room conditioned my body for the higher altitude and my guides and porters were impressed with my continued increased SPO2 levels while on the mountain. Thank you Evolution, I will be back in there to prepare for my next climb.

I have been seeing Brad Farra for a bunion which was resulting in a Neuroma due to running with odd biomechanics caused by the bunion. The pain was very bad, and I was starting to wonder if I'd need surgery to repair the bunion. Brad worked on the muscle and connective tissue around the bunion with Graston (breaking apart the fascia and adhesions), and did laser on the Neuroma, as well as Graston on the top of my foot between my metatarsal bones. Since he started working on my foot, in just a couple of weeks, and since I've been wearing CorrecToes at his insistence, I am now able to move the big toe on that foot, which was previously frozen in place and did not respond to my attempts to move it. I'm extremely pleased to see that there is a solution to this problem, for which I'm sure any other doctor would have advised surgery. Brad is a genius, as are the numerous other excellent chiros, PT's and trainers at Evolution with whom I've had the pleasure of working. As an ultrarunner, I put a lot of demands on my body, and Evolution keeps me on the trails and able to perform at events.

I highly recommend Evolution healthcare and fitness. I started training for a half ironman and was struggling to get my nutrition dialed in for proper recovery and energy. Alex Borsuck did a thorough review of my diet and gave me the recommended adjustments I needed to take my training to the next level. Thanks Alex!

I did my physical therapy with Sanatan Golden, after tearing my ACL while playing ultimate frisbee. I have seen many physical therapists in my life, for various reasons, but Sanatan has been by far the best. Not only am I back to playing ultimate frisbee and doing everyday activities with ease, but I am now so much more confident in my body and the way that I understand it. I have a much clearer picture of why my body feels certain ways, how to treat it, and how to make it stronger. Sanatan being an athlete himself, he understands what it means to return to a sport at 100%. Even if you aren't looking for a physical therapist for athletic reasons, I can't recommend Sanatan more. I'm confident that he can not only cure your ailment, but that he can also teach you how to care for your body so you hopefully won't have to see him again.
I encourage anyone who is experiencing any sort of pain in the body to enlist Sanatan as your phycial therapist. He's a super nice guy too!
Alex
I went to a massage therapist to sort out some nasty kinks in my back from work and sleeping on it funny. John did a fantastic job sorting it all out and more. I was able to get in touch with other aspects of my body that hadnt been as obvious.
The staff was so friendly and helpful that I decided to try out an acupuncturist. Cameron was recommended to me so I met with him. He was very knowledgable and gentle (he could probably tell I was new to acupuncture treatments). The needle and cupping treatments were like icing on the cake to my recovering back!!
Taylor Redding
I've only had one visit so far with Dr. Farra. He already identified something others had not regarding a possible significant contributor to recurring back spasms. I'm going to do what he says for a while and see how it goes. I'm a very active person so I love the philosophy of this clinic/gym so far!
Julie Baker
5 stars for PT Matt Walsh, whom I’ve seen for nagging running injuries. The place is clean, well-kept and organized. Altitude training room for treadmills and some private or semi-private training sessions in their gym.
Dan Larson
I've used the altitude room at Evolution to prepare for two marathons and a backpacking trip at high altitude in Colorado. Each time, the training has helped me immensely! What surprised me most was that it stimulated my metabolism to lose a few pounds in addition to the cardiovascular benefits. I totally recommend this place!
Gerben Gerritsen
Evolution Fitness is a gym with focus on sports; each program is designed for endurance, strength and injury prevention. Two programs stand out in my eyes: The Fundamentals of Strength Training and Olympic Weightlifting for Sports Performance.
Val’s Strength Training is a n allround program combining endurance and a strong core. The Olympic Weightlifting program is not about lifting as much weight as possible, but trains the proper techniques and execution, which makes it very interesting and challenging.

Words cannot express enough my absolute love for this place! First off and foremost the staff. They are second to none and now like my chosen family. I remember my first time ever visiting and how well I was received. The time taken just to educate me on all that was offered and then the honest look into how I could benefit and what different options I had. Amazing! The friendly inviting atmosphere that makes you forget you are in an elite training facility with trainers who’s credentials cannot fit on a single resume. Yet you would have no idea their accolades with their down to earth humility. This review is long over due for me. As a professional boxer my routine is a special one that needs special amenities as well as careful professional observation, I had moved back to the PNW over a year ago from Las Vegas and had to start from scratch again limited in persons who would take the time to really be educated on how and what i needed to excel in my career. These persons have been responsible for me in my ripe age of 31 to be traveling to Mexico City at over 6,000 feet above sea level and fight against 19 year olds and knock them out! Michael McCastle, Liz Gesner, Brad and Beth Farra. My family is forever grateful for the edge up in all aspects, those little “gold nuggets” I’ve received from you that have brought me to another level. There is no where to go but up! Thank you all... oh yeah and the facility is the “business”! You won’t find a place like it! Definitely not in the Portland area! See you all tomorrow!
Dylan Boye
This is a one-of-a-kind facility with knowledgeable and friendly staff. The real magic of the place is how it combines the healthcare with the fitness. Being able to see a chiro and then immediately apply the knowledge in the gym is great. Good community of fun people that love to geek out on everything health related. Totally recommended.
Adrianne Gunn
I love this place. Holistic care and fitness in one place. I think I day dreamed that such a place would exist and here it is. I found out about it from a climbing treadmill video that a friend posted on Instagram. And then I got several referrals for PT with Dr Montserrat Andreys and she over delivers. I was thrilled to discover that they take my insurance. Just an all around well run space AND everyone I've encountered there have just stellar and welcoming personalities but in a real world real person sort of way - not a forced we have to be "polite" way. I can't think of a visit where I didn't find myself laughing and just happier about life in general.

My Chiropractor, Adam, has changed my whole attitude about Chiropractic. He is very knowledgeable and approaches his work with professionalism and a great attitude.
Dave Gulick
I had the great pleasure of working with Sanatan Golden recently. He has truly helped me so much and I’d love to share my experience. After having 2 ACL repairs on the same knee I found that I was unable to truly get back out and do the activities I loved to do. Sanatan was able to come up with a plan to get me back on track. I can’t say enough about how much Sanatan has helped me. A wonderful person doing wonderful work.

After training in the altitude room at Evolution Fitness for 1 month, not only do I feel better in my daily life and feel stronger while climbing, I have proof that it has improved my health. I had a CBC (complete blood count) done before I started training and then again after 1 month, and the following changes were noted:
HCT (hematocrit - # of red blood cells): before 39, after 41
hemoglobin: before 12.7, after 13.7
training in a low oxygen environment stimulates red blood cell growth and it obviously works. more red blood cells means more oxygen, which means stronger performance. red blood cells live 90 days, so my numbers above only reflect part of the changes that are occurring: I will have my CBC tested again next month and those numbers will reflect the full benefit of red blood cell production in a low oxygen environment; I will post those numbers also.
an unexpected benefit to using the altitude room is improvments in my climbing due to spending time on the rotating climbing wall (the treadwall): my footwork has improved tremendously. the treadwall is really effective in practicing climbing technique and it's fun to use. I have been spending 30 to 60 minutes at a time on the wall and, of course, my endurance has also improved.
I also discovered another thing that I wasn't expecting. I have always gotten altitude sickness between 12,000 and 13,000 ft and I always assumed that it was due to the lower oxygen content. well, I now don't think that's true because I've never gotten sick from being in the altitude room, including spending time at 17,000 ft. since the altitude room does not control barometric pressure (just oxygen levels), I've been able to figure out that it's the barometric pressure changes that make me sick and this relates to my daily life too because I can now correlate my migraines with weather changes: when the pressure changes quickly (like when a storm blows in), it triggers a migraine. I now watch the forecast more closely and prepare for possible problems.
because of all these benefits, I plan to continue training in the altitude room on a regular basis.

Tried out the Fundamentals of Strength Training class with Val thanks to Arc'teryx. She's a great motivator/trainer, Evolution is a great facility and I definitely left Evolution feeling great (and very red in the face - these programs are no joke!). I highly recommend.
Pete Lizotte
I've seen Sanatan for a few different issues/injuries. He's been great to work with every time. He is methodical in his assessments, takes the time to explain what's happening mechanically, and crafts an approach based on the specific needs of the patient. I can't recommend him enough.
Natasha Pettit
This place is amazing and staffed with the friendliest, most professional folks I've met in healthcare. They really know how to help people get and feel healthy and strong no matter what, via gym classes, training, and/or traditional healthcare and chiropractic work.
Carla McHattie
The practitioners here are solid. I have worked with 6 of them and only had great experiences. I am an athlete and coach. The elevation room is also a great resource.
leah erickson
Any athlete looking to naturally secret erythropoietin and up-regulate their red blood cell production needs to regularly spend time in the excellent hypoxic training room. The degree of hypoxia changes daily, ranging from simulations approximating 10,000 feet to 20,000 feet of elevation. Train on the top of a mountain and dominate when you come back down to sea level.
Tom Orth
So far I've only used the altitude room. I signed up for 10 sessions in the room, but accidentally signed up for the climbing machine. No problem they fixed it for me. Helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Clean, open space.
Shahnnen Elizabeth-Head
Love the altitude room, all the staff are great - brand-new fancy facility with all the amenities for not much $$- it's kind of a best-kept secret I don't want people to know about. I've worked with a lot of PT's and Sanatan is the best- smart but pragmatic. There is no one that would not benefit from going here.

Awesome facility! Frendly, knowledgeable staff. I used the altitude room while recovering from a neck injury. I was able to maintain my fitness level leading up to a trip to Colorado. Glad i had the opportunity!

I saw Erica Spriggs to work on my calves. I had been getting cramping in them. She did an AAA+++ job. She also gave me instructions for preventing it in the future. I will return again. Excellent experience

I've been working with Jeremy and Brad for about two months, and already have less pain in my shoulders. I really noticed the difference when pulling on wrenches while working on the truck...no more instability or discomfort where I had before!

Top notch place for training &/or health care. I sort of stumbled on it looking for a bit of structure & motivation returning from an injury. I've been impressed with the staff. Everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. Still discovering all the areas they capable of assisting with.
