He took the time to do a thorough assessment to figure out what was going on and to listen to all my concerns. He reviewed all of the test results with me, so that I could understand my injuries. I have been to numerous chiropractors over these years some helped and some didn’t. I had a very different experience with Dr. Stockstad. He explained in depth why I was having pain after looking at an X-ray and made sure I understood what was going on. He didn’t just adjust me and send me on my way. Most chiropractors I had been to urged me to continue coming back. Dr. Stockstad has made it clear he wants me to heal and stay healed where I’m not relying on him every week. I've relied on chiropractic care for much of my life and have never seen a chiro like Dr. Stockstad. Also being a MD, his approach is very different and so far in my treatment I feel good about the approach and future outcome. The staff is friendly and everyone is very punctual and timely in getting you in and out quickly. I do wish there was a little more flexibility in scheduling as there are only three days/week and limited essentially to business hours for appointments. I would recommend Dr. Stockstad and his staff to anyone looking for a chiropractor in the area.

I made an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Stockstad to see if anything could be done. He and his staff were compassionate, knowledgeable and professional. Dr. Stockstad was able to diagnose my condition and assured me that I was “in the right office”. He detailed a treatment plan and explained my problem and prognosis in a way that I understood completely. He’s very approachable - he addresses concerns and answers questions. I am midway through my treatment and the pain has subsided at least 80%! Dr. Stockstad’s method of healing is both gentle and effective. I recently had a pain in my mid-back. I had great experience back in Raleigh with a chiropractor, so decided I needed to find one here in Asheville now that I moved here permanently. Dr. Stockstad was referred to me by some friends at my church. I have only had 4 treatments, but my back pain is already gone. During each session, he updates you through the process and how the body is reacting and going through stages of healing. I feel so great after a spinal adjustment. I want to give a shout-out to Lindsay at the desk. She is so friendly and helpful. I also have to say, I have never had to wait long at all once I arrive. Many doctors shuffle you back to a room and you sit 10-15 minutes before seeing someone. That has not happened with Dr. Stockstad. If you are looking for a chiropractor in the Asheville area, I would definitely recommend going here!

I heard about this place through my brother. I started going here when my back and neck where in extreme pain, couldn’t get comfortable in my bed, was always rubbing my neck and trying to crack my back. I was in bad shape , i had nerves pinched in my thoracic spine, leading into my neck. This was causing tight breathing and weird nerve twitches that shot near my heart. I was bent over and couldn’t sit up straight. I can now sit up straight and all my problems are almost 100% resolved. I am so thankful , i can finally enjoy my days and nights. Dr. Stockstad is the best chiropractor I've worked with. I recommend him to anyone who has struggled with pain caused by spinal misalignment and muscular tension. I came to Dr. Stockstad 3 months ago, in constant chronic pain (7-9 in scale) from herniated and bulging discs in neck and waist area. After visiting numerous bodyworks professionals (chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, reiki, massage in NYC and Asheville) and spending tens of thousands of dollars, I arrived skeptical and in great need of healing. Unlike others in his field, who have tended to be intimidated by my questions and previous knowledge based on work done with other practioners / personal research, Dr. Stockstad answered all of my questions thoroughly and calmly. This was the first thing that set him apart. He then proceeded to do adjustments that felt gentle but provided a great deal of relief almost immediately. The visits were also enriched by exercises that I can do at home. Over the last 12 weeks, my body has healed to a point where I no longer feel constant pain. My range of motion has improved at each of the issue areas I arrived with. And most of all, my faith in the bodyworks practice has been restored. Dr. Stockstad is a leader in his field and carries with him a wealth of knowledge to share with patients. He genuinely cares for each person who walks into his practice, and makes his services surprisingly affordable. I truly wish that Dr. Stockstad can expand his practice into other cities. Dr. Stockstad is an incredible chiropractor. I came to him after being in chronic pain for years. It was to the point that I was taking medication everyday. Prior to treatment, he did the most thorough evaluation of any doctor I've ever been to (including general practitioners and specialists). He took the time to explain what was causing the pain and told me what he could do to help me. I felt relief after the very first visit. My pain was literally cut in half after just one adjustment. I've been seeing him twice a week and this is the best I've felt in YEARS. My friends have even commented that I look more lively and am more social since going to him for treatment. Update 01/03/2019: I continue to go to Dr. Stockstad. I am now on a weekly maintenance program and feel great. Everything I mentioned in previous post still rings true. Highly recommend! Dr. Stockstad is great, and has contributed to my recent feeling better physically, without a doubt!! I came to him back in May with neck/shoulder pain. Legitimately terrible pain. I was extremely apprehensive of Chiropractic, because in the past I had been "cracked and popped" and it wasn't for me. By May, my lifestyle had been affected by this pain (playing music, typing, etc.), and it was time to try something new to reverse the issues that had built up. All I can say is, Dr. Stockstad's techniques work. I'm heading into my third month with him, and my neck, shoulder, and overall health have improved. Dr. Stockstad walked me through his process multiple times during my first few weeks, making me feel more comfortable mentally about Chiropractic work on my body, simultaneously, I was feeling better physically.

I came to see Dr. Stockstad about 2 weeks ago with constant back and neck pain and frequent headaches going on 7 months. He was very thorough to try and find the cause of my problem: as I'm only 25. We reached the conclusion as I was in a car accident a year ago and my body had adjusted to the pain and then just became to much for my body to handle: causing the pain. He sent me for X-Rays and got me back in ASAP to review. From there the X-Rays showed that my neck didn't angle the way that it should. That day he did my first adjustment. I had no discomfort or soreness from the adjustment. My second adjustment was 2 days later: that adjustment my back finally cracked. (the first time it has done in months). That night I slept with no interruptions, I felt loose, and for the first time in months I woke up with very minimal pain and discomfort compared to what it had been. I then had my 3rd adjustment 2 days later I had zero stiffness that evening and was able to do things I hadn't been able to do pain free. Again, I got the 2nd best nights sleep and the next morning I had slight pain in my mid back. After each adjustment Dr. Stockstad reviews the steps of healing and keeps me very educated and answers every question--even if I've asked them twice. I'm thrilled that I found someone like Dr. Stockstad and can't wait for my next adjustment (which is next week!).

Dr. Stockstad definitely knows how to treat patients! He's extremely knowledgeable about the human body, how it works and how to fix it. The best part is that he listens carefully to where your problem spots are, but in knowing the whole body works together he makes sure to asses everything to find out if the problem is stemming from somewhere other than where the pain is. He walks you through his process and makes sure you understand before doing anything. It can be a little intimidating to trust someone to fix aches and pains, but he makes you feel comfortable from the very beginning!

I've been to several chiropractors throughout my life having had back issues since I was a young teenager. Doctor Stockstad has certainly been the one to help me the most. Not only does he adjust me, but he also provides me with a lot more information than any chiropractor has before him, helping me to understand what things are triggering my back issues and how I can make adjustments in how I do things in my daily life to prevent future problems. He gives me exercises to strengthen my back and correct years of poor posture. His office manager, Lindsey, is also very helpful and welcoming. They have also worked with me on payment plans to ensure that I can afford the care I need. I highly recommend coming to see these kind folks if you're expierencing spinal troubles.

Anyone dealing with chronic pain can attest to the helplessness that often follows. My life was slowly becoming dominated by both, as a result of two separate injuries, two bulging discs, and a lumbar fusion that wasn't afforded proper aftercare. I was about to come to terms with taking medication for the rest of my days and accepting my inabilities to do many things I love. My hope in a fulfilled life was restored when I went to Dr. Stockstad. He is not only a caring practitioner and extremely knowledgeable in his field, he's also very thorough in explaining what and why he is doing each step in your treatment. This is an amazing and rare quality in a doctor. It yields 'mental pictures' of whats going on in my spine and what we're trying to accomplish throughout my muscular system that have been crucial to my recovery. I'm optimistic that I can live the life I want to live again, and not just merely survive. After years of dealing with, masking, and diverting attention from all the pain, I'm finally on the right path to actually address the core problem and not just the symptoms/side effects -and ultimately return to myself again. I always knew chiropractic care was "good for you" but did not truly understand how much it can impact your health until I was having health problems with no answers from my doctor. I was living with migraines 3-4x a week. My doctor tried to help me by prescribing medications to treat them after onset which had many side effects. These did not get to the source of the problem and created a cycle of "rebound migraines" from overuse. I was then referred to a neurologist who could really only offer botox. Did it help? Yes, some, but just like the medications it was only a temporary fix of the symptoms and did not get to the source of the problem. As soon as it wore off the problem was still there so I had to keep spending more money putting these things in my body. Medicine has a place but I don't believe in just continuing to put these things in my body without seeking out fixing the source to be a healthier person. I tried eliminating common triggers such as caffeine, wine, cheese, etc. It got to the point I could no longer exercise without triggering a migraine so I even had to give that up. In short, I was living in chronic pain with no real answers and wanted to be proactive to get healthy so I could run my life again! Within my first visit to see Dr.Stockstad I had more answers than the past 2 years. My family doctor and Neurologist could explain to me what happens when I am getting a migraine but not what was triggering it. Dr.Stockstad took my situation seriously, sent me to get an x-ray the same day, saw me back later the same week to go over them and explain exactly what was going on. He really takes the time to educate his patients! I now knew what the problem was and had a plan in action to correct it. It was such a relief, finally! I've been seeing him for about 6 months now and I can say that my migraines are only once or twice a month now. I am certain that over time they will completely go away. If you are the slightest curious about how chiropractic care can improve your health and your life I would absolutely suggest going to see Dr.Stockstad. He will take the time to do a full consultation with you and explain everything. I appreciated that he was realistic with me and upfront about how long the process could take and what it would require on my part. He has taught me stretches to do on my own at home between appointments. He is sincerely a nice person and I believe he will be honest with you. I have been suffering with plantar fasciitis for the last six months and had just about resigned myself to a life with foot pain. I had been treated by a regular MD, who injected cortisone into my heel as a temporary measure to relieve the severe pain, as well as a podiatrist who prescribed orthotics and a change in the shoes I wear. Although both of these offered temporary relief, neither was able to diagnose the root cause of the problem and offer a long term solution. I visited Dr. Matthew Stockstad, my wife's chiropractor, at her insistence. Dr Stockstad has been very helpful for both my wife and I in relieving neck and back pain, but I did not think that a chiropractor was the right doctor to treat plantar fasciitis. Boy, was I wrong. Dr Stockstad did a comprehensive exam of my posture, including evaluating weight distribution on my feet, as well as my ankle, toes, and knees. The exam addressed both feet, not only the one which was causing me problems. After treating my problem through adjusting my ankle and toes, Dr Stockstad explained the orthotics that I should use and the reasons they would be beneficial in alleviating my condition. The orthotics I ultimately purchased from Dr Stockstad, as well as the treatment of the condition, produced immediate relief. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr Stockstad to treat not only back/neck and other skeletal problems, but problems with feet as well.
