Reviews of Mean Sandwich
Skylar Kaylen
Came for the sandwich and stayed for the atmosphere. The owner Dan helped take our order and walked us through some of the restaurants must-have-items. We went with the Damn Burger and a WTK Chicken Sandwich. All sandwiches come with their house special potato skins, super crispy and flavorful and pair well with any of their many dipping sauces. Wash it down with one of their bottled beverage's. A perfect all around meal. We almost forgot to take a pic of the food.
Save room for that bread pudding!

Finally came back to Mean Sandwich to try their Fish Sandwich. If you like salty, bright flavors this sandwich is absolutely for you. Such a unique offering and it was truly delicious-- I can't say I've had a sandwich quite like this one. Thanks to 'The Stranger' for recommending this excellent sandwich! We also ordered their special, which was a Mandarin Orange Chicken Po' Boy, also very good.

The location is great. There were a outdoor seatings with darts and ping-pong table, not heater tho. Inside was a bit small but cosy. The staff was great, friendly and professional. Food wise my friend had one of the classic and I had the falafel (only vegan option on the menu) the food was overall great, sadly not many vegan options. Would be a great improvement if the design the menu in a way that all the options can be replaced with some vegan burger or other plant based protein.

Got the fried chicken sandwich. Staff were very friendly and prices were typical for Ballard these days. There even was a shop dog who wandered over and said hi. The sandwich was tasty and came with some chunky cut potatoes. I still dream of sub $10 sandwiches

I'm a big fan of smash burgers, so I was really excited to try this place out. It's almost inconspicuous in it's location near a busy main road, but not at all hard to get to, but you might walk by if you're not paying attention.
I got the double DAM burger with added bacon and a side of their signature salt-n-peppa skins, which are like potato wedges that are then deep fried like jojo's, but better, because they bake them first, ensuring a nice soft center in addition to a crispy outside. You can even get them dressed up and fully loaded if you'd like.
The burger itself was so juicy and flavorful, charred outside and soft, hot, juicy center-- everything I hope for in a great smash burger. The service was great and the staff was super helpful in explaining the menu to me. I was told by others this is one of the best burgers in Seattle and I would agree. Everyone seems to be onto the thick fancy gourmet burgers, which isn't bad, but Mean Burger really brings it home with this traditional favorite. It was worth the trek. They also offer online ordering and pick up as well!
Josh Winters
Great hamburgers and potato skins! The owner is super friendly and gave some good suggestions for beers nearby too. The idea to serve the covered fries in a Chinese takeout box is genius.
Johanan Ottensooser
Delicious! A mustardy smash burger that you’ll think about for days.
A fantastic fried oyster po boy that’s perfectly crisp and not at all greasy.
AND THE POTO “skins and ins”!
Also, the service is lovely.
Go here.
Matty B
Really good sandwiches and “Salt-n-Pepa” crispy potato wedges.
I’d recommend the Mandarin Chicken Po’Boy if they still have it! Otherwise the Jersey Sub is pretty great
Marcus “Marcus.dude”
Amazing quality and taste. Their lettuce is very fresh. Meats are also great. They also have great gluten free and low carb options. Their back yard seating area is very cool.
Drake Davis
I was down the road working at the new food bank and decided to try this place for lunch. The guy that greeted me was extremely nice and informative. I think his name was Dave. Cool looking store on the outside, not to mention the really cool outdoor seating in the back. Real nice shade canopy’s with tables in a nice calming gravel area. They also had cornhole set up to play while you waited for your food. Really cool local sandwich shop that gives the best vibes while enjoying a great burger and their Buffalo house fries. Highly recommend.
Johnny Kehr
Actually had a really positive experience here. I went here for lunch with my wife, mom, sister and 2 dogs. The food we had was great. I had the corned beef sandwich (mean-which I think?) and it was amazing. The mint on it really elevated it to the next level. The potato chips/skins were also a huge highlight, especially the buffalo version, so I highly recommend upgrading to that.
The thing I loved about this though was the interactions I had with the staff, especially the owner (I'm assuming he was the owner). There were a few mistakes made on our order but he was super helpful in correcting them and seemed really passionate about helping his staff learn from those mistakes and get better.
Also the fact they are dog friendly is a great plus :) Go check it out!
Rikki Tan
Tried The Mean and the Oyster Poboy and both were incredible! Potatoes on the side were on point as well. Came for the food, stayed for the friendly staff and shop pup.
eiko fujikawa
Tasty and good volume sandwitches.
We ordered "mean sand" and "sardine sand" with potato wedges.
There are indoor and outdoor seatings. We usually order from the brewery next door. They bring your food the window at the brewery.
My sandwitch is sardine, fried lemon and jalapeno. Very tasty sandwitches and potato widges are very crispy.
Want to try other sandwitches for next time.

Hands down my favorite sandwich spot in Seattle. Been coming here for years and the quality only seems to go up and up and up. I’m a huge fan of the Jersey Sub and how well it pairs with the insanely tasty fries (and white sauce). The owner Dan is always friendly, excited and thoroughly kind to anyone coming through, which makes it that much easier to choose to dine in at this spot. They may be called Mean Sandwiches, but every menu item will do your stomach a hearty kindness. Be sure to come through if you’re looking for the best damn sandwich in Seattle.
Galen Ballew
Amazing classic sandwiches with an elevated twist--very well executed and delicious. Lots of cold drinks available, including beers.
The sauces and potato skins (better than french friends in my opinion) are the unsung heroes. Be sure to get extra white sauce and or remoulade.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Tons of outdoor seating, including stadium seating around a ping pong table!
Paul K
Got the mean sandwich! Wow! Didn't expect it but very very good! The gentleman not sure if it was the owner...very good. He was great to chat with!
Tanessa Kenny
My husband and I stopped in not knowing what to expect. We were immediately greeted by the owner, Dan, who gave us an overview of the menu. It’s always nice coming across someone who genuinely seems to be passionate about what they do. The “shop manager”, Tommy Lee, was an added joy! The food was great, but the potato skins are to die for! We’re already planning our next visit.
Kiana Jiron
First time here and my experience was awesome. My food wasn't ready for pickup when I arrived (it was a big game day, of course they were swamped) and when I went to buy a beer while I waited they just gave it to me on the house. Even aside from the free beer, the service was super friendly and genuine. The food is delicious and the restaurant is relaxed and super clean. Definitely going again first chance I get.
E BH
I love the fish sandwich. It’s a truly generous pile of sardines with the right balance of lemon. These sandwiches will surprise you with their brilliant flavor combos!
Kayla Countryman
Absolutely delicious sandwhiches that are HUGE. You could easily split them. Served with their version of fries, which are basically wedges and skins. So good! Highly recommend! Also, the staff is fantastic. Cool hangout spot with table tennis too 🙌
Jeremy Peronto
The Jersey is among my most ordered menu items of all time — it’s a cold cut sandwich that is refreshing and perfect for a hot day. Mean Sandwich is also secretly home to one of the city’s best burgers.
Owen Rogers
I had the falafel sandwich with salt and pepper skins. The sandwich had imaginative extras that made for a tasty main course. But the skins are the real star of the show with this combo. Service was very friendly, and food was ready quickly. Definitely suggest supporting this fine establishment!
Suzanna Hare
Really unique, beautiful and delicious food. I certainly would go back! Talked to the owner and their food is made from scratch and the Meanwich was delightful with a surprisingly nice hint of mint. Cool ambiance as well--fun things to look at (aside from the game on TV).
Abby Myers
Truly the best spot to grab a sandwich in Seattle, especially if you're looking for something special. They have the best Italian sub I've found in Seattle, and a lot of great options if you like fried chicken, burgers or even steak tartare. The interior is really well done, so it's a good spot to eat in as well as takeaway. Highly recommend!
Ian
The brisket sandwich could and should keep this place in business for years to come. The whole menu is excellent. One of the best delis I've encountered in all of Seattle; they're not afraid to use spices and go heavy into a flavor.
Niki Bunich
I had been curious about this place forever, but for some reason never tried it. Big mistake!! The best sandwiches around, the only way they could be better is if they were bigger, but they don't need to be. The potatoes are so delicious I could just eat them. This is a definite place you need to try!
Carlos Sinde
This place is GOOD. Definitely worth the wait on a Saturday. I’d recommend ordering ahead of time and waiting for the text message to let you know it’s ready.
I ordered the single patty with Lettuce & tomato. I paired it with the Buffalo Full order potatoes and washed it down with a Boylan root Beer, and left satisfied.
I brought a few fresh jalapeñoes to kick my burger, but that’s my thing, and nothing against the establishment.
Chelsea Z.
We've been here twice now and really enjoyed both times. The flavors are super complex, sour, spicy, salty and satisfying but also just very approachable - fried chicken po' boy, a burger, a corned beef sandwich. The dressed-up potatoes are worth trying but even just salted and peppered with the calabrian chili relish, they're a hit. We can't wait to come back to try everything on the menu! Treat yourself to the bread pudding if you have a sweet tooth you will NOT be disappointed.
A Griff
Yum! The owner took our order and was so friendly! He explained the menu, gave suggestions and remembered our names when he came to check on our lunch! Fun atmosphere and awesome sandwiches, 100% will be coming back in to try the other sandwiches on the menu! Also a plus that our pup could come sit outside with us!
Seymour Downey
Let me tell you. This place has soul. The staff are genuinely helpful and friendly with recommendations, they understand this isn’t a cheap bite. They understand that you’re a valued customer and deserve the best service. These guys cater to you and ask you how your meal was after. Yes this place is slightly spendy, but it’s 100% worth it. The D.A.M burger stands for “Dry Aged Meat”. I’m truly impressed with this place and will return for more tasty food. Please give them a try. I’m not some faker or some yuppy. This is honestly a really great run for your money. Please keep kicking butt Mean Sandwich!!!
Judy Long
We went there for the first time today and was super impressed by everything! My hubs got the Mean and I got the Hama Oyster. Both were absolutely perfect! The corned beef was super tender and the oysters tasted really fresh! We really like the potato skins. They were fried to perfection - I loooove a super crispy fry and every single one was perfectly crisp. I also really liked the mustard! The service was great - everyone was super nice and you just get the sense that they genuinely care about their customers. The whole transaction from beginning to end was super smooth. We ordered online, walked up to the front door, told them my name, waited a few minutes, and they brought out our food piping hot! I was EXTREMELY impressed by the covid-safety-measures they put in place. Their front door is locked and behind glass. You walk up to order and they have an electronic microphone/speaker thing like you'd see at a drive thru bank. So you're never talking to someone face to face without a barrier. If you order in person, they slide a big mailbox-like thing out of the door to give you the card reader (also kinda like a drive thru bank). They have really great covid-safe eating areas in the back. There's picnic tables all separated by tents. This was literally the FIRST time I felt safe enough (since 14 months ago when covid started) to actually eat out at a restaurant. I seriously don't get the comment someone wrote about how their process is "awkward." How is it fair to give them less stars because they've put in procedures to keep YOU safe?? It's to keep you and everyone else safe, so they can still operate their business during these trying times! Operating businesses = employees with jobs! And anyway, I don't feel like their system is awkward at all. It's very efficient and super effective at keeping everyone distanced while having the least amount of contact. Well done, Mean Sandwich! I wish every restaurant was as conscientious and respectful of the pandemic as you guys are!
Bret Bunich
At first I looked over the menu online and nothing jumped out at me. A few months later we went just to try it out. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE BEEN MISSING OUT ON THIS PLACE THE WHOLE TIME!!!! We had a great time and meal. Food was delicious, staff was great and really friendly and the atmosphere out in the back felt like we were on vacation. This place is going on the list of places we will regular. Don't miss out like I did, go eat Mean Sandwich NOW!!!
Stephen Engelking
I've only had one sandwich so far, the mean, but it's was not only good but a unique flavor profile. Excited to try the other sandwiches. Also a cool outdoor area out back to eat.
Friendly staff as well.
Mary Kleshefsky
Went hunting for an Italian hero this afternoon thanks to the NYT crossword, 14 down. This place boasts a strong, varied menu of hearty subs, including the Jersey, which entirely satisfied my requirements. Also snagged a bread pudding - SO buttery and cinnamony and soft and crunchy, just perfect. Plus super friendly and helpful staff. A gold star experience.
Madan Ankapura
Great brunch place / awesome sandwich
Chicken is tender :)
Anson Byun
DAMburger was amazing. Potato skins on the side complement the burger perfectly. Could taste the slight funk of dry aged bits somewhere in there - just fantastic. Bickerson's right next door offers great beers to boot.
brent jackson
The wait took longer than they said it would, but holy cow was it delicious.
I had the thick cut corned beef and the wedge salad. Couldn't have been happier with my choices. Will.def.go.back next time I'm in the area.
mike higgins
Best sandwich in the city! Dan and the rest of the crew make you feel welcome and it's always a happy atmosphere. 15/10 Top notch eats!
Jay M
Not your normal, boring sandwich and that’s a good thing 🥪 …
Megan Carroll
Was looking for a quick bite, but got an experience! Staff was super friendly, calling everyone by name!
Juan Becerra
Been in several times- always bomb. Particularly the Buon Appetito, DAM burger, The Fish, and potato skins. Plus they have a cute dog. What's there not to love?
Andrew Lee
I enjoyed my visit to Mean Sandwich. The staff was very friendly and I felt very welcome. I ended up ordering the Mean Sandwich and tried the burger and skins & ins. The Mean Sandwich was good and I really enjoyed the added mint that took it in a little bit of a different direction than a normal corned beef sandwich. The visual brightness of the sandwich was really appealing too. The burger tasted really good as well. The dry aging makes a difference when it comes to flavor. Finally, the skins & ins were a great way to eat potatoes. Overall, I had a nice meal and would like to return to try the steak tartare sandwich.
Christine Box
Amazing family run business. Owner stops by and checks on every table and is appreciative of all his customers. And that Smash Burger?! It’s a don’t miss!
Brandon Love
Great spot. Prices are a bit on the high side but the quality of the ingredients and flavors are top notch. Definitely recommend the bread pudding.
Joe Waddington
Always delicious. I moved out of Seattle and still make sure to come back wherever I can. Dont look past the Steak Tartare BLT, it's a real gem in the menu.
Kristina Titova
My friend recommended this place and their MEAN sandwich, i never was a big fan of mustard, but decided to give it a try and it was absolutely delicious! The staff was really helpful and friendly👍🏼 definitely coming back to try more sandwiches!
Adam Ziemba
Delicious and BIG sandwiches at affordable prices, with excellent service!
I ordered Buon Apetito, which came with a chicken cutlet, cheese and some veggies. It was such a delicious, tasty and filling choice! As my side, I choose Skins & Ins with salt and pepper. Skins and Ins were a little too greasy, but I was satisfied with my meal.
You can order to go or sit inside or in the patio.
The staff working here is excellent. Very polite, friendly and courteous!
Francisco C
Service was great, everyone here is just awesome they all make you feel so welcomed
I had a chicken sandwich it was amazing, it was just perfect. Potatoes so yummy. Definitely coming back for more.
Taylor Hale
Tasty food. But wow, expensive. My bad- I should have paid more attention to prices. My husband and I each ordered one sandwich and one beer each- over $65 with 20% tip. Ahhhhh!
Robert Palmer
We loved, LOVED the skins and ins. The oyster po’ boy was fantastic and the burger was delightful! Loved the fried lemons on the fish. Thanks Dan!
Joshua Giles
Cool counter service sandwich shop nextdoor to a brewery. Sandwiches are fairly pricy but are large with a goodly amount of filling. We got the mean sandwich and oyster poeboy, both of which were delicious.
Christina Everdyke
Great sandwiches. The skins and ins are definitely worth it. The bread pudding is made out of day old buns and is absolutely stellar. They also have window next door at Peddler brewing. What's better than a pint and a buffalo chicken sandwich?!?!
Dana Darr
We have been wanting to visit Mean Sandwich for a long time. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed friends... The picture is a view of their daily special (I forgot the name already, Jersey Burger maybe...?). My absolute favorite part was the bread pudding! I am the ultimate soggy textured fella when it comes to food. Everything was stupendous really. The service was much appreciated. Thank you for being patient, and helpful. Keep up the good work.
Eric Schmitt
This is THE spot for a sandwich in Seattle. Every time I've been the entire crew at Mean is fantastic, super friendly, fun to talk with, and helpful if you're not sure what to get.
On top of the awesome crew, they always have the best music going, and the whole vibe of the shop just rocks.
All that said, there's the food too! I'm working my way through the menu and have yet to find anything that isn't redefining what my expectations of a sandwich can be. The titular "Mean sandwich" with corned beef, cabbage, mustard, and a touch of mint is absolutely phenomenal. To go back to a word I used before, it redefined what a corned beef sandwich can be for me.
The D.A.M. burger is the best burger I've found in Seattle, and in the running with the best I've ever had anywhere. The dry aged beef in it is perfectly accented with the pickles and cheese.
Finally the "fries" are world class. It's like a crispy potato skin, that still has a nice tender baked potato texture as well.
Seriously, mean is the business and completely worth a visit
Max Benas
I love the Jersey Sub, and Mean Sandwich is literally a banana pepper away from 5 stars here. An Italian sub is just not complete without something to give it a little kick, and that something is notably not available here, at all, even by request. It’s a super easy thing to stock, and would probably turn me from a monthly customer into a weekly one. It really does make that much of a difference. Please guys…just add this one basic staple to your ingredients, I’m begging you!
David VanGeystel
My gf and I LOVE this place. The owner is authentic and works his @ss off. The chefs are great and the food is awesome. Very cool spot.
Joshua Ryder
I had the Mean Sandwich today (their corned beef sandwich), and, my goodness, that thing was killer. The beef wasn't shredded or chipped; it was thick slabs of delicious corned beef. The homemade yellow mustard was super good as well. The taters were delightfully crunchy, and the manager came out and asked how everything tasted. They had bottles of Topo Chico, so this seltzer fiend was content.
You don't come here for the ambiance (although my name on the bag WAS really cute). You come here for the food, and the food fuggin' delivers.
Well done, Mean Team!
Lauren C
Awesome little spot for a great sandwich. Nice enclosed back patio with a ping pong table, super friendly staff, the owner came around and checked on everyone. The sandwich I had was the special, on point. Bread was just the right mix of chew and crackle , good size, and the potato skins were crispy.
Josh Sambrook - Smith
I really liked this place. As he was leaving, the owner came over and introduced himself and his brothers (he didn’t have to!). He even recommended a sandwich joint near my home in London! Thanks!!! Super friendly and welcoming vibe. The sandwich, chicken and provolone, was delicious. Tasty fried chicken, mouth watering cheese, pickles and salsa. Really enjoyed it, will definitely return.
Ryan Grelck
The Fish is one of my favorite sandwiches ever. Great balance, excellent quality fish, love the celery root slaw. Good amount of acid to balance out the fat.
B. Weaver
This place was a tasty little surprise. The staff was friendly and gave us a rundown of sandwich options. They were out of two options so I ended up with the Buon Appetito (chicken cutlet sandwich), which was spicy but good. The potato side (Skins and Ins - loaded) was heaven. Highly recommend!
Brenda Thomas Smith
This place is awesome!! Was my first time here with my client in a wheelchair today and everyone was wonderful!! And so helpful, food was delicious, i will definitely be back and try other sandwiches,if you want a absolutely delicious sandwich this is your spot!!!! Thank you guys for the great customer service
Marty Herrera
If a place puts sandwich in their name then they better have great sandwiches. Mean Sandwich comes correct. I had the Jersey Sub and can confirm, as someone from the Philly region, that it was legit (although I'd call it a hoagie... details!). My wife had the burger and it was simple and amazing. I'm going to have to make it a priority to come back and try every other sandwich on the menu.
Wendy Tan
Great Hama Hans po’boy sandwich. Many good selections. Highly recommended.
John Paul Penaloza
Really good sandwiches, especially their specialty Chicken Parm that they don’t have too often, but is the best chicken parm I’ve had 🥲
Roger Knopf
Outstanding sandwiches and staff. Parking is the trick.... I particularly like their jersey sub. I'm not from jersey so make no claims about authenticity, but I like it and it fits the description of subs reported from those who have been to jersey.
Angela V
The Fish sandwhich was amazing. So fresh and so yummy(2017)
(Oct 2018) Had the meatloaf sandwich. It was truly awesome. Perfect balance of flavors. Housemade pickles, horseradish mayo, tomatoes and wonderful meatloaf. Mean Sandwich knows how to layer flavors.
Brian Chang
Good variety of traditional, American sandwiches. If you're at Peddler, let them know and they'll deliver it to a window on the side.
Follow my Instagram @nikon.foodie for my detailed review!

10/10. Potatoes were incredible. Chicken po boy was perfect. Burger was excellent. Loved the service, very nice and laidback. Will definitely return to try the others!
Ben Painter
Some of the best sandwiches in Seattle, and one of the best burgers as well. The potato skins are also a rad twist on everyone’s favorite side dish, with the buffalo style being a personal favorite.
This place feels like one of those little spots only locals tell you about in the best way. If you’re in the neighborhood, you’re in for a treat.
Hannah Brand
I got the 'Mean Sandwich' and o.m.g. I had no idea corned beef could be so 😍😍.
They have a great beer selection and multiple veggie options. Not a lot on the chips front but the sandwiches are so hearty you don't even need them. …
Bernie Macias
Had the corn beef sandwich, it was a thick wedge of beef. The slaw used was great. I recommend upgrading to loaded or buffalo skins.
Bill P
Their steak tartare sandwich is heaven on earth!Cool, zesty and perfectly fresh on the custom bun. Comes with yummy potato crisps as well.
M S
The name says it all! The falafel patty and potato skins were bombski!
Terumi Pong
Incredibly delicious sandwiches-and they are quite big too! There are also vegetarian sandwiches and the potato sides are a nice alternative to traditional French fries. I want to come back for the bread pudding. Finding parking close by can be a little difficult.
Matt Perrone
Mean Sandwich is always worth the trip. If you're around Market St and having a few drinks, or even around the corner at one of the many pubs/breweries in the area, you'd better go fill up your stomach with a delicious sandwich. They have many to choose from, and the amount on the sandwich is quite a bit. Try the Italian or the pastrami, they're amazing.
Dawn Hammer
Stopped in for a bite. Great vibe. Very welcoming. Perfect, quick lunch spot in Ballard.
Megan J. Merritt
1.I like the logo it’s super attractive to my senses! It speaks to me no pun intended. 2. I like the vibe of the joint and it looks like there’s fun stuff happening out back 3. The Sambo so delicious it was the perfect Italian sandwich…I’m a sauce hound so next time I’ll get it a little juicer but honestly that’s a personal preference. I want to see this joint busy as hell because it’s delicious…go there! As a bonus good jams!
Bobby Boulter
Lives up to it's name. Buffalo fries are a must. Still thinking about them. Owner is super cool & friendly. Patio with lawn games in the back.
Cristina SL
What a great place! If you’re in Ballard it’s a must, and if you’re not, it’s worth the trip! We came here a year ago from Texas and knew we needed to come back while we were in town. The owner and staff are all fantastic and so friendly. Every sandwich we tried is amazing and the skins are too good to share, so get extra!
Ryan Church
I must say, I was very hesitant to try this place. It seemed expensive and "just a sandwich". Boy was I wrong. I tried the Jersey sub, which is such a packed sub with content and flavor. Plus it comes with potato skins, so for $15 I got more than enough food. I'm excited to go back and try more.
Also I went recently...meaning during COVID. They have a great setup akin to a Dr Seuss book with a microphone to speak to you and a neat hidden door to pass you your food. They probably didn't mean it to come across as a Rube Goldberg machine to get your food, but I LOVED it. Very safe and creative. Keep up the good work guys!
Michelle Smith
The potato skins are amazing! I had the beef tartar BLT on a lettuce wrap and it was super good, lots of yummy black pepper! Will definitely return.
Luke Bauer
Best sandwiches I've ever had ....by far. The steak tartare is amazing!!
Blaze Chalupa-Batman
Visited on a whim, hands down the best burger I've had in Washington since moving here. Well seasoned, and perfectly cooked patties accompanied with well chosen ingredients for the D.A.M. burger. As for the fully loaded baked potato bits, they were seasoned very well, cooked perfectly to make them a little crispy and fluffy on the inside. The chives, bacon, and sour cream were evenly distributed throughout the potatoes.
My friend who got the mean salad enjoyed the wedge salad which was generously coated with the dressing and fried bacon bits. His fried chicken sandwich was crispy, and very well dressed. Our
Our favorite part was that none of our buns were soggy or instantly turned to mush while eating them.
Anthony Leonetti
Bottom line: Come try this fantastic restaurant!
First off the food: I ordered the mean sandwich, which came with skins and I also got an order of the bread pudding. Everything was great, the corned beef was a highlight and the other flavors went together well in the sandwich, although I would get the corned beef on its own next time. The bread pudding was the best I've had, the spices were fantastic and the sweetness and consistency were on point. I would come here only for this dessert side, it's that good.
Second, the service: Incredibly friendly and helpful wait staff, I felt very welcome and was able to get everything I needed. My food was ready very quickly, I waited less than 10 minutes from ordering to eating.
Max Marsico
Was running errands on my break and stumbled upon this place. Guys working are awesome, food is tasty, wish I had time to sit in the back and enjoy their outdoor seating. Will be back!
Daniel Lavery
I have had about half the menu here and the sandwiches all have been well-designed with good ingredients. The Hama Hama Oyster Po’Boy absolutely slaps—it’s probably the best thing I’ve had there. The burger is good in concept but sometimes they are too heavy with the mustard. The sardine sandwich can be legit great but you have to be in the right mood for it.
The potato skins are decent but can tend a little well-done for my taste.
Overall strong local shop.
Daniel Turbeville, IV
Great sandwiches, sparse location. The selection is small, but what they do is superb. I imagine it will only improve with time.
Matthew Redlich
Haven't felt compelled to leave a review in a while, but this place is so good. I'm looking forward to trying everything they've got, can't imagine anything wouldn't be done well.
Sloan Shore
Wow! The meat is excellent. The mixed peppers & onions are pretty darn spicy so make sure to get them on the side if you have a sensitivity. The workers there are very nice and have good vibes. They have a beautiful outdoor eating area in back with individual tents which is very much appreciated. They have really nice chill reggae music playing in the back as well. We will definitely be back! Thanks guys!
Brandon Waterman
Delicious and nice.
I've driven by this place countless times over the past few years and never stopped in until today.
The people inside was warm and friendly and the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. Both interesting/unique as well as unequivocally tasty.
Will be back.
Red Sheppard
Liked it not a bad place for lunch. Try it see what you like. Cool dog is around the place to pet.
Justin Sise
This place has some great food. The burger was delicious and the skins are a delicious substitute for plain old french fries. Really great service, the owner and staff are super friendly. Can't wait to go back!
Henrietta Suen
We’ve now been to mean sandwich twice and will definitely be coming back for more! All of their sandwiches are always bursting with flavor and very well balanced, never leaving you feeling like you have overindulged. A special shout-out to their oyster po’boy which has deliciously crispy Hama hama oysters paired with their lemon peppered mayo and fresh lettuce, all on a soft French roll! Their crispy potato skins are also one of our faves!
Finally, one cannot leave a review without mentioning the amazing hospitality of their staff especially their resident cute dog Tommy Lee bones!
Will Erstad
Unique and incredible sandwiches that you won’t regret trying, if not just for the delicious potato skins
jessica hernandez
Mean sandwiches are delicious, inventive, and solid “yum” every time!! Mint on corned beef? Genius!! Homemade pickles? Yes please! Fried chicken po’boy with Calabrian chilies? Sign me up!!! Potato skins are pure heaven! Thanks mean sandwich!
Andrew Richards
Easily one of my favorite spots in the entire city. God I love this spot. Coming from someone born and raised in Jersey, the “Jersey” is the best Italian style sandwich I’ve had in my life.
JT Gwozdz
Great food from a carefully curated menu. Spacious shaded picnic area seating in the back with kind and attentive staff and a friendly yard dog. Great find.
Samantha Wesselink
Great food, great people, great beer and just all around great place! Definitely a hidden gem and worth the stop!!
Meg
Best chicken cutlet I’ve ever had. Was so tempted to just eat it alone outside of the sandwich. Great beer selection. Can’t wait to return and try another sandwich.
Joshua Fosdick
I say this with love, as I truly enjoy these guys sandwiches, but please skip the steak tartare. Unless you like black pepper. Steak? couldn't taste it. Rye, Sure it was good, but couldn't taste it. I forced myself to eat half the sandwich and had to stop as I had a stomach ache. I had three other people try the remaining half and none could stomach more then the first bite before becoming overwhelmed by the black pepper. 2 Stars because I legitimately have enjoyed others and hope this is a one off. Please guys. Revisit this one recipe.
Edit after Reply: 5 stars for a great reply. Maybe I've got weird taste buds. Honestly I didn't "see" any black pepper. Just was the overwhelming taste I got. Which was another reason for my confusion as there was no mention of it in the description. I read that you use use the yuzu and was looking forward to it, but having never had it, maybe I just misinterpreted it as black pepper. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was my problem and not yours. Thanks for the thoughtful reply and the thoughtful sandwiches.
Micah Hoover
Best sandwich I've had in Seattle, and fighting for the best italian sub outside of Jersey
Erick Frederick
Popped in for lunch and a beer. Great spot and food was really good. I'll be back for sure!
Cassandra Galante
The Jersey Sub is one of the best Italian subs I’ve ever had. I am not only born and raised in New Jersey, but I also worked at an old-school NJ deli for 4 years, so I feel I have some solid credentials when I tell you this sub is fantastic. Thank you for making such a delicious sandwich and giving me a little taste of home even when I’m thousands of miles away!
Eric Steen
Had the jersey and the salt n pepper skins and ins. Food was amazing! I have been looking for an east coast style hoagie for a minute and stopped in on a recommendation. I wasn’t disappointed, and will be back. Apparently I need to try the burger next!
My only holdback from giving five stars are the roll, which is personal preference, I don’t like a crunchy roll on a hoagie. It tasted great, and high quality, just not what I’m used to. Second is the price, this place is not cheap! The cost for a hoagie and some fries was more than I would have expected.
Thanks for the great sandwich, I’ll be back!
Kim Peterson
First of all, every sandwich here is uniquely delicious. I've tried the Mean, the Buon Appetito, the steak tartare one, and the meatball sub. Each one tastes like the person who made it cares about each ingredient and how they go together. So worth it; so delicious.
Second, I appreciate their dedication to no-contact pickup during these weird times. Their system shows me that they care about their employees' safety (and their customers) and that makes me love this place even more.
Third, the loaded potato skins are delicious.
Anthony Monaco
Awesome staff! Great outdoor area for COVID! The skins were surprisingly delicious. "The Mean" sandwich obviously was carefully crafted of great ingredients, however the huge portion of corned beef seemed like it was about 50% fat. Like in huge mouth-sizes chunks. Some people might really be in to that. I found it inedible. I liked absolutely everything else about this place. I will go back and try more options.
Joe Coats
Their potato skins are amazing!!! Such a great change up from the usual potato options. Loaded was great, but the plains ones were crunchy and delicious too.
The fish sandwich was unique and fresh. I also had their burger, it was dam tasty.
So good!! I also love how much effort they put into making it a safe to-go experience during COVID.
Déborah González Neaves
These folks sure make a good sandwich! I had The Mean with loaded Salt-n-Pepa Skins. The corned beef was delicious, it melts in your mouth. The order and pickup were super fast.
Austin Borcherding
Had the jersey and a smash burger. Ingredients were clearly high quality, but the sub was super dry and the burger was burned. Neither issue was to the point of inedibility by any means, but for the price it was disappointing. Maybe just an off day, who knows. Potatoes were good. Cool little local shop, I’d give em a try if you’re in the neighborhood.
James Clapp
Holy moly! We just stopped in for the first time
and wow! This place is amazing. The oyster po boy was a perfect sandwich and the D.A.M. burger we'll have us coming back again and again. The folks who served us were kind and helpful. Don't miss out on this gem! You won't regret it.
Chatch Sirisuth
Amazing sandwich place with great outdoor space. Get “The Mean” sandwich.
Alex Gracey
In Seattle for only a few days and had to go twice. Tries the fish, the mean, steak tartar, and oyster - all equally delicious and distinct. The owner was also there and couldn't have been nicer.
Chelsea Riddle
Fair warning, this isn't a "normal" sandwich shop. The options are a little odd, but the mojo sandwich I had was pretty good. Very acidic except for the savory meat. If you get the fry-things (ins and outs or something to that effect) make sure you get them loaded or they're a little too tough to be enjoyable even though they taste great. The porch pup made the wait enjoyable and the staff is friendly. The best part is they call you when your order is ready, so you can avoid waiting entirely.
Min M
Try the steak tartar sandwich!!!! It’s SO GOOD! Every bite was packed with flavor.
Francisco Noriega
Delicious sandwich, corned beef was extraordinary! It is expensive though, a cider + the sandwich (which is normal size, not huge) were was $25
James Willard
The ordering process seems a little odd, but understandable thanks to covid. We got our drinks after we ordered, and found a covered seating area behind the restaurant. I got the dry aged beef burger, which was unfortunately not worth the wait. They had an interesting take on steak fries, which were large chunks of crispy potatoes, no complaints there. All in all I think my experience would have been better if not for the measures restaurants have to take just to stay open, I'll come back after all the restrictions are lifted.
HonesT Abe
Looking for an east coast
Sandwich - swung by to grab a bite. The person who took my order was kind and patient. The potato side was food but I wouldn’t get the toppings for a to go. Sandwich was tasty but not the east coast Italian sandwich I am used to from North End of Boston.
Liam Baxter
Really tasty, filling sandwiches. Clearly lots of thought and care put behind each sando. Owner was very nice, and seems to care about his customers greatly. Would definitely return next time I'm in the area!
Tyler J. Sison
This place is great. Those potatoes are some of the best I've ever had and the sandwiches are top notch. Along with that, amazing people work this place, makes it an all in all amazing experience. Will be back for sure!!
Mike Nimmo
Fantastic burger. The DAMburger is an awesome mix of smashed dry aged beef, cheese, onion, pickles, mustard, and mayo.
The skins and Ins are a new twist on fries. They're basically everything that other place's fries are trying to be.
Finished with the bread pudding, warmed. It was awesome and my wife and I fought over who got to finish.
Nichole Cooke
This sandwich place is absolutely divine!!! It is so difficult to find a restaurants that serves a delicious oyster po’ boy and they far exceeded my expectations. Just the perfect sandwich. I will be making a special trip to Ballard just to eat here. Thank you again!!!
Ben Sturgess
Excellent oyster po boy and chips. Great service. Highly recommend!
Greg Moser
I've tried the smash burger and the felafel sandwich and they're both SO GOOD. The fries are also well prepared - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the right amount of seasoning. Friendly and conscientious staff too! Can't wait to try the patio once the wildfire smoke goes away!
Theodore Hellmann
I was deeply impressed. This place deserves its reputation as one of the best sandwich places in America. We heard about Mean Sandwich from BA and we’re not disappointed.
Beyond the food - the staff and chef are super friendly! Three different people came to chat about how our lunch was and I stopped by the kitchen to ask about how they managed to get their “skins and ins” to be so crispy after lunch.
Brian Logue
Love the oyster po-boy. Prices a little high but the food is wonderful. If you're having a beer next door at Bickersons Brewhouse, order a sandwich and they'll deliver it.
Zack Garbowitz
Best italian sub I’ve had in Seattle! High quality meats/cheese, crunchy but soft bread, really great. Fries and burgers are great too
Daniel Maguire
Holy heck. Had The Fish sandwich. Anchovies, fried lemon, slaw. So good. The owner, Dan, is super awesome and welcoming. Will absolutely be back.
R Broussard
When I tell you this place is underrated and more people need to know about it!!!! Their sandwiches SLAP! My boyfriend and I went on a humbug for lunch and asked if they make BLTs they said no but they made me one anyways. Best BLT I had in a long time... Then today my boyfriend went and got the D a M burger and loaded skins and it out him to sleep.
Y'all better get up on game with Mean Sandwich!
Doug Stolz
Let’s just say it was a long time coming for us to drop in for a Mean Sandwich. We usually eat vegetarian and the menu is pretty meaty, but we can totally vouch for subbing in the falafel patty on the Midnight and the Fish. No other word to describe the experience, it was EPIC! We definitely will be stopping back in anytime we’re over that side of town and the craving for MEAN sandwich strikes again. Fried potatoes are on point as well.
Chris Letterle
The sandwich was really good but their "fries" are phenomenal. Like a cross between home fries and thick cut fries. So so so good
N Latz
I stopped here tonight, and I am sure glad I did. The Mean Sandwich was utterly phenomenal, and the customer service and the owner were so friendly.
Im not gonna say that you should eat here just because its local, or that the ingredients are locally sourced. You should eat here because its the best sandwich shop around.
Evan Abrass
Great friendly staff and out of this world sandwiches! My favorite is the Mean Sandwich, so many great flavors that are perfectly balanced. Don't forget the salt and pepper potatoes wedges! They have a crunchy crispy skin with a perfectly cooked center
Brooke
Definitely quality ingredients and creative choices but a bit pricey. The bread is tasty but hard and not very easy to handle as a sandwich. The service was very friendly and helpful. Overall we spent $40 for two sandwiches and two draft beers with tip. Certainly not worth $20pp. Nice size patio area for outdoor eating.
Jesse Hart
A little on the heavier side, but overall pretty damned good. And I want to go back and play ping pong in the back outside when it's not 90 degrees.
Joey Lavorato
What a gem this place is! Came a long way to watch the Bluejays game and popped in here for some food! Great owner and staff. Food was next level!
Natalee Lopez
The ordering service was great. Food came out timely and the service was friendly. We ordered the Bahanan Sandwhich (the special) and it was delicious. The kids said the grilled cheese was the best ever — ask for sub American Cheese (normally comes with provolone and Swiss).
Jason Grauer
Every sandwich is well thought out and delicious. The outdoor seating is a bonus.
Jeff
Fried chicken sandwich was okay, but a lot of mayo and chicken not that juicy. The fried potatoes were good, but some very burnt pieces. They seemed to be backed up in orders as my order for pick up was a bit late.
Zac Schasteen
This place had absolutely amazing food. The folks who work there could not have been any nicer. The entire experience was wonderful.
Hannah Vantrease
Their online ordering system was super simple to navigate. Once there, they have a fun and easy contactless system for pickup. And of course, the food is wonderful! Some of the best sandwiches in Seattle (veggie options and swaps, too!) and the skins n ins are AMAZING!
jason pham
Really awesome sandwich place, the sandwich are very good and are pretty unique. I had the signature mean sandwiches, and there was so many flavors to it but it worked well together, and the slices of corn beef you get is huge. The skin and in are also great, alot of flavor to texture to it. The place also serves alcohol. It a little hard to spot and getting parking in the area is a little difficult.
Daniel C
Upon a recommendation from friends I went to Mean Sandwich two days in a row. I had the beef sandwich (corned beef) and the next day I had the fish sandwich. Both were very tasty. I met the owner briefly on the first visit. Very nice staff, selection of sandwiches and sides along with beer and soft drinks in the cooler.
Scott See
The Skins and Ins are the best thing ever to happen to a potato. I'm not exaggerating. I've had some of the best french fries in the world, and these blow them away. They're not exactly a french fry, maybe more like a jojo, but they are so good they're in a class of their own. Oh, and the Mean Sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. And I'm a New Yorker, so I take sandwiches very seriously. And I've had some extraordinary sandwiches. the Mean Sandwich is really incredible. I don't even like mint, but somehow it really works.
Pooja Junnarkar
I don’t mind spicy and well seasoned food but something about these sandwiches did not go well with my taste buds. It was some kind of pepper which I never encountered before even in all of Asian/Indian food. I tried the Buon chicken sandwich.
Richard Pierce
It's hard to beat a chili dog right? These guys knock it out the park with tasty chili and super friendly staff. Another huge plus is a good beer selection. Mike's had 3 IPAs! Unfortunately I could only drink 2. You can order their chili with our without beans, and it's got a bit of heat but nothing too crazy. Also, my buddy had one of their burgers and he was very satisfied. Portions are all either huge or massive. We could not even come close to finishing off the tasty fries. This place has the feeling of a tasteful dive bar, the best kind. Go there and enjoy!
Cassandra Hernandez
Best hamburger in Seattle! Love the atmosphere and the staff
Kye Mead
Service was on point, they are super friendly and that always makes a huge difference. Food yum! Glad i finally decided to stop the car instead of always driving past making a mental note to one day stop. Because i will definitely be coming back.!
Chris Joyce
Delicious and creative sandwiches, every one I've tried has been good. Skins & ins are a super original cross between fries and chips.
Their site doesn't always play nice on mobile, but don't let that deter you - it's worth it, even if the webpage is slow to load on your phone.
Chris Topher
First time in, and wanted to love this place, but it ended up being just ok. We had the namesake Mean sandwich which was pretty good, but the meat was a bit tough and dry. It is kind of like a Reuben, but has a somewhat unique flavor with mustard instead of dressing. Also had an order of the potato skins which were quite tasty, they are more fried potato wedges than skins.
The main letdown was service, both people we dealt with at the front counter seemed distracted and less than enthused to be helping us. Then the food took a good 15-20 minutes to come out. Rightly or wrongly, for me Honey Hole is the gold standard which all other Seattle sandwich shops will be held up to, and this visit just fell short. Willing to give it another try though.
Stephen DeShazo
First time at this Ballard sandwich spot and I can see why it's so popular. We got the "Midnight" falafel burger and the po boy. Both sandwiches were amazing and the pickled beets on the falafel were a tangy treat. The really pleasant surprise were the fries, "salt and pepa skins". They were delicious little crispy potato nuggets about an inch square, with skin on each piece, and I've never had anything else like it. The stacked 50lb bags of potato by the counter speak to the freshness factor. This place is original, good food, they put in the work on making stuff fresh and I loved it. Yum
Lei Edstrom
Discovered mean sandwich on two best of Ballard/Seattle lists. Friendly service. Unique hole in the wall feel. Recommended that I start out by trying the "mean sandwich" and loved it. A yummy combination of a slab of tender corned beef, slaw, mint, mustard on a warm bun. The chicken sandwich was great, too! So nice to try something new.
Jeremiah Bonsmith
Their namesake sandwich is gorgeous. The ingredient list is weird, but it really, really works. Love it!
Brian Childs
Best sandwich I've had in Seattle. I ordered the namesake "Mean Sandwich" and it was incredible. And they served it with Cloudburst beer! Great combo. Loved meeting the owners and it sounds like they have a lot of events. Definitely a place to try out!
Dan Vogel
A great shop with a straightforward menu of straight talking options. Consistent, comfortable and apparently dog friendly.
Eric Muller
Really interesting selection of sandwiches here. I had some sort of buffalo chicken sandwich. The ingredients were all fresh, and the chicken nice and juicy. The portion was filling too. I’d say some of their sandwiches are a bit too funky for me, but if that’s your thing then go here
Martha Miller
We stopped here with our 2 kids and were totally impressed with this unassuming sandwich shop. The menu is short, but they've put a lot of thought into what items made the cut. My husband had the Jean Claude van Ham, which he said was excellent. I had the only vegetarian option, but it was amazingly creative. The kids' menu was even shorter with only grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese, but that's what my kids order no matter where we are, so I didn't mind that there weren't more offerings. There's 1 side dish and 1 dessert. We tried the potato side dish, and one $3 serving was enough for the 4 of us to share. We were so full that we didn't get to try the bread pudding dessert.
What surprised me even more in this tiny restaurant was that they had a whole crate of stuff for kids to play with - Playdoh, coloring books - and in the back patio area they even have a small play house. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will absolutely go back.
Scott Snelgrove
My girlfriend and I arrived at Mean Sandwich after a multi-hour car ride that left her somewhat dehydrated and grumpy. The owner's recommended ginger beer turned her afternoon around! The falafel sandwich was delicious as well. I'm odd and do not typically enjoy pickles. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the tang they along with the pickled beets added. Will definitely return.
Garrett Wilson
I absolutely can not say enough about how awesome Mean Sandwich is. Not only was my "Mean Sandwich " and "Loaded" potato thingies the highlight of an otherwise craptastic day, the shining example of a human being who helped me, get this, actually helped me. When there was a snafu with my payment card of choice, instead of glaring at me, arms crossed menacingly, huffing and puffing as I stood there in a quasi panic, fumbling my way through technology, he graciously told me that rather than put me through all that he was buying my lunch for me. Seeing as how this was my first visit, I take this as a good sign. Thanks again, you have a new life long customer...and maybe, if this isn't a bit too creepy, may I suggest we now be good friends a whole lot.
Kelsey George
Wish I could give more stars. Food was fast, delicious, and served by personable staff. Fries are clearly house cut fried potatoes and just hit different. 10/10 would recommend.
Nicole Fortier
Best burger! The best simple high quality ingredients that are a taste explosion! We went twice in early December, went on a three trip to south East Asia. We all decided we needed a mean burger before headed back to work and college. See you later today 1/5/20 ;). Cheers!
Ashley Slater
There is a dog named Tommy Lee Bones who is adorable and should be reason enough to visit! There's Cornhole in the back with outside seating, plenty of covered options. Delicious falafel burger and the white sauce is simplistically tasty.
Eric Candell
Gourmet sandwiches. The burger is great, but if you want a more adventurous route, I recommend the tartare sandwich or the Mean Sandwich (corned beef, slaw, and mint!). The potato skins are also great. I like the simple salt and pepper ones the most.
Dena Tanenbaum
Stopped by on our way from the train to the San Juan ferry. Wow - great sandwiches. We had the Hama Hama Po’boy which was so delicious, and The Fish sandwich which was really fresh and unique and perhaps even more delicious. Definitely check it out.
Resa MsDimples
I'm super impressed! They went out their way to make me a BLT and it exceeded my expectations. Oh and their pickles! 😍 I love a good pickle. They seemed as if they make them theirself.
Chris Derecola
I've never actually eaten in Mean Sandwich, but their namesake offering is a good majority of the reason we ever go to Peddler Brewing next door. The ability to order at Mean and have them deliver to a window at Peddler's beer garden is pretty awesome. It doesn't hurt that the sammich itself is pretty freaking delicious. Corned beef seems to be hard to find in Seattle and none of the other offerings are as good as this. The combination of ingredients is on point.
Ian Hogan
Second time though here. The sandwiches are incredible. Definitely has a weekday lunch rush I wasn't expecting. Great patio for sunny days like today. Got the buon appetito which was a great chicken sandwich. Would go again anytime, one criticism is service is a little slow. But worth the wait.
Nathan Dickey
Awesome sandwiches, great service!
Annette C
Meh. Tried chicken sandwich, burger, buffalo skins, and regular skins. Highlight was the buffalo skins (even as someone who doesn’t normally like buffalo flavor). Burger was pretty good. Didn’t know we’d get charged for water
Ghost
I personally don't really like sandwiches.. But when I was told about the mean sandwich I had to try it. I wish I stayed to enjoy it, but I had to take it to go, but by the time I got home and took a deep bite into that beauty- I didn't know how I was feeling.. Joy? Excitement? Lust? Idk. But what I do know is I'll be back for another 😁👌🏼 also first and only place I will EVER get my potatoe skins. Hands down the greatest 😍🙌🏼
Josh Whitbeck
Update: After writing such a low rated review the owner got in touch with me and made amends. He explained the reason behind the changes in the sandwich (covid related). He was also very curious about the rude customer service and I explained what happened and he was legitimately shocked and has a plan to correct it. All in all, amends were made and I GREATLY appreciate the owner's respectful attitude and professionalism and would recommend this place solely on that fact.
Covid-19 has ruined this place, had a great experience here in December 2019. Today i recommended me and my wife go here since we were in the area and the person at the front was extremely rude. They changed their corned beef sandwich from a big hearty sandwich that tasted amazing and was filling, to an overly simplified version that will leave you completely unsatisfied. I unfortunely would have much rather have gone to a Jimmy John's then go to this place again. Taste was mediocre at best and very overpriced.
Charlie Fowler
Just got my first sandwich here. Phenomenal. I got the Mean Sandwich but I will be making my way down the menu for sure. A must try for sandwich lovers. Oh and the loaded potato skins are absolute fire.
Jorge Olivares
Had the buon apetito with the fries, was not impressed at all, maybe is my palate not appreciating it ? Maybe it got cold while I drove home ? The fries were half burnt and the other half were ok but not delicious. Will come back to try the signature mean sandwich before giving up on this place
Tyler Robinson
There for a mission chinese pop up. Nice outdoor space. Would like to try more sandwiches based on the bit of one i had.
Eli Atticus Jager
I was very excited about this place when it first opened. But in the end, the sandwiches take a long time and I haven't found any of them to be completely to my liking, despite numerous visits.
They all have something just a little bit off going on.
They're delicious, just somehow more experimental than I'd like in a comfort food spot.
Mary K. Rosenthal
Went for the Oyster Po’ boy and it did not disappoint. Quick, friendly service, clean and bright little eating area with tables and window seats perfect for my solo lunch grab.
Michelle Langley
Great sandwiches and the skins & ins were deliciously crispy!
S. H.
Bought the most amazing loaded potato skins ever! Even my 10 yr old ate (most)some and he is THE most picky eater ever.. I have to stop in for a sandwich soon. Small and cozy eatery with a few outdoors tables. Small drawback is that it took longer than anticipated but as they had some customers and only two people working, it's understandable.
Adam LaFountain (TheBIGcafeteria)
Some of the best sandwiches in Seattle; probably all of Washington. Throw in Oregon and all of Canada for that matter. Easy to order online and a slick no contact pickup system. Burgers double as sandwiches and they’re great as well. Don’t sleep on the wedge salad. Follow on IG for occasional specialties like their hunt-for-the-red-october-level meatball sub.
Alexander Wuolle
They are very kind, courteous, and welcoming. Very helpful and also have delicious food!
Rafael Lopez
Nothing alarming or wrong with the quality, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would given all the praise. It’s been a while since I went but I remember there was just way too much of one ingredient which completely overpowered the taste (I think it was the red cabbage)
Jessica Hubacher
My buddy took a picture of his sandwich and all of a sudden I had to have it too so I went straight there. I ran into him actually! He left and I ordered.
I had a great sandwich!
I opted to not have mint on it but it was suggested that "it kind of makes the sandwich" so I asked if it was easy to take off. "Yes." So, I got it, took one bite and removed every little piece of mint. I don't like being wasteful but I wanted to try it! It was a lot of mint and I hate mint but I'm an adult so I tried it first. Some mint was stuck in some places and that was actually okay.
I would go back in a a second. They sure do make a mean sandwich and I love sandwiches. I just hate mint. Sorry! See you tomorrow.
Isam Alegre
There is a yearly tradition in my school that last-year students (this means 14 in Spanish education at the time) would perform a play of ‘Els Pastorets’ (The Little Shepherds) for Christmas. Every year, I would watch this in awe, waiting eagerly to be able to participate and take the role of Rovelló, one of the two shepherds that are beguiled and captured by Satan, only to be saved at the last moment by the arch-angel Gabriel.
The reason why I was so enamored with this character is because he has a scene in which he eats a ham sandwich on stage—this would be a classic Catalan sandwich of ‘jamón serrano’ inside a toasted baguette seasoned by rubbing garlic and tomato, then adding a bit of salt and a generous drizzle of olive oil. While he eats the sandwich, he goes on and on about how tender the ham and how well toasted the bread is.
After waiting for seven years, I finally was elegible to participate in the play, got the part, and learnt my lines. I asked my Mom to make the best ‘bocadillo de jamón’ for me to eat onstage, and she prepared the perfect sandwich: high quality ham, freshly baked bread, all seasoned exactly to my liking.
Finally I got to eat it in front of a crowd of parents and students while totally method-acting my praise for that absolutely magnificent staple of Catalan cuisine.
That was the best sandwich I’ve eaten in my whole life.
The Hama Hama Oyster Po’boy they serve at this place is the second best.
Nick Van Maren
I've had a good sandwich here once that was worthy of 5 stars, but I just ate the Mean Sandwich and it sucked. They were too concerned with making the sandwich look cool and colorful. It had waaaaaay too much mustard and not enough meat. Don't get the Mean Sandwich unless you like bad sandwiches!
INLE MEDIA CO.
called in my order. the guy was so nice answered all my dietary questions. the order was ready and he delivered, totally contactless through the basket in the door 👌🏽 ordered the mean sando w/loaded & s+p skins and ends, also a bodhizafa. enjoyed it in the ☀️ at the outdoor patio in back. perfect way to dine safe. the corned beef with mint and homemade mustard was perfect!
Matthew Stott
Mean Sandwich rocks! They have a great pandemic friendly ordering setup and the food is incredible! I got the Buon Appetito sandwich and fries - probably the best fries I've ever had tbh.
mike mcghee
Real good, all fresh. Note that the potato skins are closer to wedges/chips, but the cooking process on them was great: extra crispy outside with char, steaming, fluffy inside. Will be back.
Timothy Royce
Staff is friendly, calm, and patient. Management is super personable. Hearty portions, fair price, and a unique twist on some classic flavors make this place a must stop regardless of what you’re craving. Well done!
Jonathan Puplett
Amazing sandwich. Would recommend 100%
Brandon Baker
You know when you caught between I"want this to be my place so no one can know" and "this place is amazing and the people deserve this flavor"? I'm going with you (the reader) deserve this sandwich. I've got a crisp Whit to drink, a mean sandwich in front of me and some jojos that make watching the rainfall feel like home.
Poetry asside this sandwich is killer. And you should make it a stop if you live here or a just passing through.
Erin Smith
I try to avoid Ballard, but I had a gift card and had other obligations in the neighborhood so I figured I would give this place a a shot. The Buon Appetito immediately caught my eye. It was a late night at Pacific Inn so my body responded positively to the golden fried chicken and crisp, cold lettuce. This was simply a well executed chicken sandwich that was elevated by the addition of pickled pepper relish. I don't recall the type of bread that was used, but it did hold up to the heft of the filling without overpowering it. I love me a Mammoth sandwich, but I would venture back to Ballard in a heartbeat to get this.
Roy Taylor
Best sandwiches in Seattle! Update: still best sandwiches in Seattle! They execute a perfect smash burger, and the namesake Mean Sandwich is mind bogglingly good.
David Rickabaugh
Such great quality sandwiches and a friendly team.
Fissell Zachary
These sandwiches are some big mamma jammas!! The tower above most sandwiches available from other places. They are also delicious, using fresh flavors and ingredients. The shop is very clean and bright. Great spot!!
Melyssa Evans
Got the falafel sandwich and it was phenomenal. Care is given to each ingredient when designing these sandwiches; the owner explained how different components will hit my palate. I will return!
Katie Shawver
Great sandwiches, very friendly staff, and if you're lucky Tommy Lee Bones will hang out at your table.
Daniella Carpenter
So happy that I discovered this place. Best sandwich that I've found in Seattle! Try the skins and ins! So delightful. Big portions. Staff is amazing. The courtyard in the back is fun for summer. Yummmmm!
Ian Follett
I ordered the sardine sandwich and wasn't a big fan. My biggest gripe is the bread is dense and dry. And they're not cheap, either. Service is friendly and attentive, though.
i “hitsu” i
Mean Sandwich makes me grateful I live in Seattle.
It's messy, its juicy and crispy, it's beautifully crunchy.
Dont be surprised if they are slammed, the food is all so ridiculously stupid good.
CEK Poarch
Eh... Sandwiches are okay. Cool location though. I've had better by far
Keegan Schultz
Got the jersey sub. This thing was everything I wanted and more. I'm pretty sure they also throw in some seasoned potatoes. What a deal. Definitely will be back! If your in or new Ballard come thru and try some Mean Sandwiches!
Ivy Akers
Unreal sandwiches and fried potatoes, great local tap list, and an awesome chill patio in back - what more could you want? I want to eat here every single day. The only way it would get better is if they'd stay open later!!
AJ Reardon
They have a novel method of no-contact pickup where you ring a bell and they slide your order out through a drawer in the door! Our sandwiches were generous and delicious, too.
Hephaestus Thunder
Massive sandwiches with some unique combos. It's not fast food by any means, and well worth giving a try! Hopefully in the future they will consider different or extended hours of operation, closing at 4pm is a missed opportunity for the beer crowd at Peddlers along with people coming home.
Robert Murphy
Got the mean sandwich. I definitely enjoyed it but the combination of flavors was a little strange. A little too much mint and cabbage for my liking. I would definitely go back to try one of the other sandwiches.
Andrew Prentice
This is a serious recommend. I had the mean sandwich, 12 bucks, I took home leftover sandwich. You can split a sandwich with a potato skins side between two people. Next time I am in Ballard I will definitely be going back.
JoanneBoe
Food was delicious! The loaded skins and sandwiches were so yummy!
Harpreet Singh
The owner is super friendly! I highly recommend the Oyster Po’boy but you can’t go wrong with any menu item.
Joah M
OMG, I just decided to try this place while out running errands. I had the midnight sandwich and half skins. It was all so good, also got a side of the calabrian chili mayo. I'll definitely be back!
Jack Palevich
Very nice owner/operator, tasty beef tartar sandwich. Backyard dining area could do with some greenery, but maybe that’s impractical in that area? The beanbag horseshoe games were fun to play.
Kayla Blevins
I loved this place - vibe + food, the buon appitito was my FAVORITE but they recently changed it completely. I'm very sad and this is my plea to change it back.
Many thanks,
Kayla
Blake
My friends really liked the chicken sandwich (Buon Appetito). Great spot for food if you're at Peddlers for beers. Support small/local businesses!
Adam Gentz
Awesome food and great service! Stopped in right before closing and everyone was super friendly and helpful. Delicious food, and the (I assume) owner stopped by our table on the way out to make sure everything was good. Will be back for sure.
Brian K
Go here. You won't regret it!
Yvette Nameth
Slow to make sandwiches but they're so good. Order ahead so you don't have to wait
Andrew Parkes
The Midnight Oasis is the best Sandwich ever!
Jonathan Suchland
Great sandwiches, but wish they offered gluten free bread option instead of just a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap is way to messy to enjoy the sandwich.
Paige W
AMAZING. The "MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS" is the best sandwich I have ever had. Super friendly staff, fun and funky decorations, and amazing atmosphere. I can't recommend this place enough.
Joshua Dirks
My sandwich was delicious and actually eatable! The fries special was also a great sub for ships with a sammie. As a fan of sandwiches, I recommend this place.
Doug Nichols
Super slow and the sandwich doesn’t consistently measure up. I waited 40 minutes for one sandwich on my most recent visit.
Not sure why, but no one is wearing a mask🤷♂️
Baylee Mires
Really tasty sandwiches, just a bit pricey for just a sub... Really nice spot to eat outside in the back and there cool pub next door that they deliver food to. When I go back I'd certainly grab a beer and a sandwich!
Brian Nisonger
Good sandwiches. Fries are ok
matteo visentin
I thoroughly enjoyed my falafel sandwich and the side of potatoes. I also tasted the corned beef sandwich and it was good too. The sandwiches are priced high but they are good.
Launi Harrell
artisan sandwiches. all food was to die for.
Sarah W.
I'd consider this place one of those "hipster" sandwich places. What we had was really really good, but the other options in the menu sounded way to weird for me. If that's your thing though, definitely check it out.
Shea Yeutsy
Tried today for the first time and the 3 of us ordered different sandwiches, all were amazing. Will DEFINITELY be back.
T Lee French
Best local spot in the Ballard neighborhood. The staff is super friendly they always have something new to try from beer to bread pudding yes bread pudding 😋😋😋. …
Eli Combs
Just had the thick sliced corn beef tasting perfect perfect pickles and the potatoes skin muah.
Kevin Roemer
A true Seattle sandwich institution. Get the loaded Salt & Peppa Skins. You won’t be disappointed in this place. Awesome staff.
Lina Aleidi
Love their mean sandwich it’s one of a kind. I’ve never tasted anything similar. Just put in mind that it takes about 25 minutes to prepare.
Diana
The corned beef sandwich (not quite a Ruben) was delishish! One suggestion to the chef: corned beef should be cut against the grain. Half was, half wasn't. But I'll be back!
Adam Saunders
Great sandwiches and kind service
William Ransohoff
Super tasty sandwiches, although the sign and name are accurate; they're huge! Takes a little while, but again, the portions are big enough that you'll be there a little while no matter what.
Rob Yocum
Sandwiches were unique and quite tasty but overpriced. Skip the potato skins. Nice atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating.
Reverse The Sands
Love this place! They make the best sandwiches around and have a great selection of beers on tap. I would highly recommend it.
Katherine Sutherland
The sandwiches are delicious, the space is funky, and the staff is warm and welcoming. We went out of our way to find this place, and it was well worth the effort.

This is a great sandwich shop, I highly recommend the steak tartare! They have a great crew and the menu is interesting without being out there.
dave crothall
Best sandwich in Seattle. Go with a friend and share the Mean Sandwich and the Buon Appetito. Play some corn hole while you wait. Love this place.
Charles Nitze
The potato skins are dangerous. Stellar sandwiches. Delightful bread and rolls. Must go back soon....
Gib Lopez
This place is bomb! Super tasty, reasonably priced food with a lot of the ingredients made and prepared in house.
Definitely will be back again soon.

My go-to lunch spot. The sandwich is huge. Serves 2. There's a nice backyard if you want to enjoy the sun. Jersey-represent.
Cody Thompson
Quality buns for the sandwiches, nice variants on classics, and good beers for cheap! I shouldn't have grabbed a punch card because now I'm doomed.
Loren Kronen
Super delicious sandwiches! The Buffalo fries were more like breakfast potato style and I loved them.
Bernie Liang
I like it. I ate too much but I liked it. Particularly the potato skins! They're a must get. Also appreciated the Jersey sub.
Annalise Meyers
Fun place, great food, friendly staff! The sandwiches are huge, and one was enough to share, with a side of potatoes
Jo Pa
Fantastic sandwich and the 'taters are so legit. Size of sandwich is very big and could be shared or, portion size just reduced.
