Reviews of Po' Boys & Pickles
Super fantastic sandwiches. Worth going out of your way for.
The Good:
Wide variety of sandwiches which are quite tasty. Love the staff, prompt and friendly.
The Meh:
The have sit down and take out, but you won't stay for the atmosphere or anything. Kind of average / small parking lot. Prices are above average.
The Bad:
None.
Food was great! Service was fast and fantastic too! Best wings we’ve had in a while. I was super happy with the blackened fish salad!
Enjoying a New Orleans Louisiana taste here in Portland. The Peacemaker is a must have and the fried onions rings are huge portion of onion! That's what I like!!!
Quick service, great employees, clean store and the food...worth the drive from Bangor. Ordered the peacemaker and the fried seafood was on point! Everything tastes fresh and delicious!
Great pickles, even greater po'boys. Incredible selection and friendly staff! Very clean establishment as well.
The smells alone in this place make me wanna go back. Nice portions, consistent product and above all else, very tasty. Voodoo wings for the brave, and any po' boy will do. Fried oysters should be a food group and they do them right here. If every order came with Rolaids, it'd very much be 5 stars.
I got the atomic patty melt and holy cow it was tasty! The mix of sweet bacon jam and spicy jalapeños was perfection. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was really nice especially for an ordering at the counter place.
Great little place for a quick bite. I come up to Portland for work a few times a year, and it won't be the last time I come here for lunch.
Had the pulled pork sandwich, which was on delicious crusty poboy bread with slaw and BBQ sauce. Only got plain fries but next time will try one of the other options like Cajun.
Been here afew times and it's always a must have when I visit Portland. So many selections to choose from and they are all delicious. New to me this time was all the extra outdoor seating which was great on a beautiful day. They even have a "fried pickle poboy" which was a big hit. Staff even brought the food out to the table for us. Love this place!
Delicious sandwiches and the roasted vegetable salad was amazing .The Roy Nagin was so tasty . Fried pickles delightful . Delicious fresh and can’t wait to check it out again. We have driven by for years and so glad we finally stopped by for take out . amazing spot .
Great place for a sandwich & sides. I ordered the angry pig sandwich & onion rings with dips & it tasted great. Wide variety of sandwiches to choose from as well as sides. Highly recommend you stop by for a great experience.
This was my first time at Po' Boys & Pickles and I am glad that there isn't one near me, because I would be there every day! I had the "Angry Pig" and I cannot even put in words how delicious it was! I have never had anything like it! The pulled pork melted in my mouth! Add Jamaican Jerk Sauce, Pickled Jalapenos, Jack and Cheddar Cheese, & Roasted Garlic Mayo on Jalapeño Cornbread and you will need a moment to savor it!! I told my husband that Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives should definitely visit there!
Very tasty, quick and friendly service, great music!!
Ordered the fried oyster po’ boy, was not disappointed. Seems easy to make but fried seafood is tricky - having it hot, not overcooked, etc by time customer is eating it. Due to covid we had minimal interaction with the staff but they were plenty friendly. I’ve already recommended this place a couple of times since my first visit a month ago. Great quick lunch option if you’re in Portland!
Food is consistently fantastic. The speed/service rate can vary, but they're always friendly.
The Thai Tea shake didn't seem adequately mixed, the first half tasted like a vanilla milkshake. The blackened fish sandwich was tender but not spicy, and the debris sandwich was tender but pretty flavorless. The fried pickles were good and came with a tangy dipping sauce. Overall disappointing.
Been coming here occasionally for years, always got the Reuben which is the best one I've had in Maine, but tonight I tried the cheeseburger po'boy and it was fantastic. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the Portland area. Thank you so much for being awesome!
This place is great. Traveled here from out of town looking for some local food joints and this did not disappoint. Had the angry pig and loved it. Food was so good I had to go back for a second sandwich and got the Muffuletta Po'boy. Everything was great and the guys behind the counter were very friendly and helpful with recommendations even though it was almost closing time.
Would recommend and definitely would revisit.
Stopped in tonight (8/27/21) about 6pm. I just got into town on a plane from Oregon 2 days ago. The girl running the counter was sweet. She welcomed me to Portland, and was quite bubbly and chatty. In a good way. It didn't seem fake or put on. I got The Cheeseburger Poboy. It was a fine sammich. I will be back to try many more. The Pickles were great, will get extra next time. I saw they had Homemade Doughnut Holes, ill be trying those too. Oh,and Wings. 😏
First time here and it was awesome. I asked for something that was a special a few weeks back and the said they could still make it for me. It was great everything we got was great. Definitely a must try
Very good po boys. Got the cheeseburger one and fried pickles
Pretty great Louisiana inspired sandwiches from way up north. Compliments especially on the fried pickles and the shrimp and oyster items. Debris gravy could use some more oomph. Nice bread.
First time ever ordering from Po Boys because I'm never in this area. But I've got to say, the food is pretty damn good! I ordered the BLT and even though it's a super simple sandwich it was delicious! Definitely will be ordering with you guys again when I'm down in the area again!
Absolutely delicious sandwiches! I had the Atomic Pig which I enjoyed quite a bit. I do wish they had more options for adding heat, even with the extra jalapenos and the Louisiana sauce at the table, I had tastebuds yet to burn by the time I'd finished the sandwich. Absolutely delicious though! Highly recommend the fried pickles, too.
The atomic patty melt is insanity!! It’s crazy how good the food here is. And whatever you do get a Macaroon before you leave be cause those things are incredible! Seriously can’t recommend this place enough!
Fast, fresh, fried to perfection. The seasonings seem toned down from where the used to be. Crystal hot sauce helps, but it seems like there's a little something seasoning wise missing from both the oyster and muffaleta.
By far one of the best sandwiches in all of Portland. The angry pig is phenomenal, Cajon fries delicious and the milk shakes godly.
I'm always on the hunt for a good chicken wing, and these folks might have the best in Portland. Crispy and delicious, with good heat.
Angry pig was excellent! I'll probably ask for extra jalapenos next visit.
Been there twice in 8 years. Amazing both times. Best coconut macaroons I have ever had!
Consistently one of the best sandwich places in Portland. Great staff, and great food. Go on the weekend so you can have the fried chicken on a biscuit, with gravy. Silly good.
As a New Orleans expat, we love stopping in for a po'boy whenever we pass through Portland. These guys get it right (although the debris sandwich needs a little extra gravy).
So maybe this place dropped off a little? First time here. Friendly counter staff , Oysters are great , small portion size . Shrimp were ok , smallish. Good bread and sweet potato fries. Trash on patio , bathroom wash pretty & bad no changing table .
I enjoyed a Fried Chicken cutlet sandwich with chillie cheese fries. Everything was extremely tasty and the service is great. The pickles are crunchy and fresh a nice good dill garlic pickle.
Authentic! Down to the shredded lettuce! Leienheimer Bread makes it just like home. (Native New Orleanian)
The voodoo wongs are AMAZING !!!!!
If you like spicy wings, get those. Service was AMAZING and atmosphere was AMAZING !!!!!!
Also, get the pork loaded potatoe skins !!!
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT CONCEPT !!!
I have wanted to try this place for a long time and keep mentioning it.
So. Darn. Good. I love food and here I can get some good food. Reasonable pricing "seals the deal" as the saying goes.
4 stars.
The Peacemaker is delicious. It's friend oysters & shrimp. Gotta try it!
Don’t drive by this place without checking it out. Staff is super friendly and cool. My roast beef was cooked perfectly! Fair prices and BIG MENU. There’s something for everyone here. Thanks Po’ Boys!
Staff was wonderful and nice!
The po'boys, and voodoo wings that we ordered lacked flavor unfortunately and the bread fell apart because of how wet they were.
The chili cheese fries were great though!
We visited for the first time today, Saturday at 1:30. We were the only customers, but not for long. The young man at the counter was friendly, patient, and explained the menu. There was one cook who kept up with the orders in a reasonable amount of time. My falafel was tasty but a bit over-fried, very dark but not quite burnt. The salad under it was large and fresh with an interesting assortment of vegetables, some of them pickled. My husband was very happy with his gumbo, fried fish and biscuit. The sticky toffee pudding was decadent. The seating area and bathroom were clean. The tables all have tall bar-style chairs which may be difficult for some people to use. Picnic tables outside. Will definitely visit again, probably will order ahead for pick up after work.
We order Po' Boys a lot at my workplace (Green Clean Maine) for employee meetings. We really don't get sick of the food - it's so good! The shrimp salad, atomic patty melt, and cauliflower bites are our favorites. I find myself craving their food alllll the time 🤤 …
For my meal I ordered an "Angry Pig", and let me tell you, that hog was angry!
Great pickles, although I have yet to receive a Po' Boy, due to my shellfish allergy.
Great meals, great deals!
Visited for the first time the other day and got 2 vegetarian sandwiches (fried cauliflower and falafel) and they were so good! Having had traditional po'boys in new orleans, this place did not disappoint, especially since they had vegetarian options! Will definitely go back! Came in during lunch on a Saturday, and had great customer service and not a very long wait, definitely worth it.
Seriously wish there were more stars to give them! 5 isn't enough! The po boys are great but if you're looking for a tasty sandwich, the atomic patty melt was wicked creamy! The bacon jam and jalapenos make it a favorite! They deliver through 2dinein which is great too, in case you need options.
Got the Angry Pig sandwich and it was fantastic, a little messy but worth it. And the milkshakes were excellent as well.
Food was alright, but expensive for what it was and order got messed up. $16+ once tax and tip and such are included is pretty steep for a sandwich so to then not get bacon on it when it is supposed to come with it kind of sucks… It’s all well and good to offer to remake it or make some bacon for me to pick up, but that isn’t really feasible after driving to get food on a 30 minute lunch break. Just wish it had been made right the first time… $16 might not break the bank, but it’s a bit much for a bacon sandwich missing the bacon.
Sandwiches are average. Same as the ones you can get at literally any pizza and sub shop across America. Kind of disappointed
These are New Orleans Po Boys which is weird to order in Portland ME but it’s the best! Fried pickles are excellent. Oyster Po Boys 5 star.
Absolutely awesome crawfish boil every year. Make sure you get there early!
My food was so good; I totally forgot to take a picture of it. But, Believe me it was amazing. Service was fast and friendly. This is some of their artwork within restaurant...💙 …
Sandwich was ok. The pulled pork was a bit dry.
Great menu and even better experience. Staff recommended the Angry Pig sandwich and fried onions to me and I was not disappointed. If you’re in the area, stopping by here is a must. Extremely friendly staff. Thanks Po’ Boys!
I stopped in after work with a friend that wanted to get a sandwich. The person running the register was very enthusiastic and helpful. I've also been here years ago they made me a grilled cheese sandwich that was out of this world. The really nice thing was that they gave it to me fo' free
I thought this place had the goods even before I moved around the corner. Now it makes for great houseguest & takeout chow-downs. 9X out of 10, I crave a shrimp po’boy and they’re solid: crisp/juicy shrimp, no grease, great crusty roll (no remoulade, though 🤔). The Big Chief, Dirty Bird & Atomic Patty Melt are faves around here. The patty melt was my 1st burger in many yrs., and it’s memorable…jalapeños, sourdough, cheddar; ginormous. They also make a mean milkshake—Mexican Hot Chocolate and Thai Tea are the flavor queens of what I’ve tried so far.
First time eating here and I have to say, that was one of the best Rubens I've ever had. Ordered two with fries and was out in and out in under 10 minutes. Definitely cannot wait to go back.
Excellent sandwiches and seafood. Go there. Nice people too - whipped us up some cocktail sauce on the spot.
I tried the Cauli po boy for the Food Fights. It was surprisingly good, kind of gave you the sensation of eating crispy shrimp. I say surprisingly because I would not have expected a cauliflower sandwich to be good, but it was one of two sandwiches for the contest. I definitely need to come back to try some of the other subs.
The closest thing to a New Orleans po boy I have had outside Louisiana. The bread used comes from New Orleans, which is key. The fried shrimp and oyster po boy had a generous amount of both and the sauce was just right. The Cajun fries were a treat. The place is unassuming but the staff are friendly and welcoming. I will be back the next time I'm in Portland.
Still remains one of my favorite sandwich shops in Portland. There's nothing more satisfying than a Dirty Bird on a warm summer day or an Atomic Patty Melt to fight off the chill. If you're looking for a can't miss sandwich, make sure to check this place out!
I absolutely love Po Boys! We order here frequently for work and the food is always delicious! Today I ordered a fried shrimp salad and it was incredible! There were some delicious pickled veggies in it that were amazing 👏 EAT HERE! …
Biscuit sandwiches served on Saturdays and Sundays. I got the sausage egg and cheese biscuit and it was great. Would definitely come back to try the sandwiches. Service was very welcoming and they take pride in what they do.
Pickled veggies in the salad made it really nice. Good shakes. Beer at reasonable prices. Two veggie sandwiches. Nice place!
Yummy fried shrimp basket. Rest of the menu looks great as well
Being from Houston Tx, we call NOLA our second home. Let me tell you the po' boys and gumbo here is just as good as a Po' boy in NOLA! Thanks for bringing a little bit of home to Maine!
Stopped here on the way to the airport at the end of a family vacation. We were in a hurry and had to wait awhile (they were busy at 3:00pm). Manager came out front and apologized for delay - kitchen was backed up, lots of orders. We almost left.
So glad we didn't! Our party of 6 had as many different sandwiches and all were outstanding. Excellent flavors. The Atomic Patty Melt is easily the most tasty patty melt I've ever had and might be in my top 3 favorite sandwiches. Highly recommended. If you are in the mood for something sweet, the coconut macaroons are quite special.
Despite the wait, the sandwiches were so good, it made the experience a pleasure. We will definitely seek this place out next time we are in Portland, ME.
Southern style food im in love with the cheeseburger sub and the fried pickles!
Husband and I stopped here and loved it! We did an online order and our food was ready in 25mins. Husband had the Debris Po and I had a Fried Shrimp Po and both were delicious.
We will definitely come back next time we are in Portland
Love me sum macaroons!
Pure fire everything is good, just make sure to try 1 macaroon
I’m originally from the Texas/Louisiana border, so I feel pretty qualified to say that the food here is as Cajun as it gets. Amazing poboys and great gumbo.
This is definitely a Portland treasure. The French Fries are awesome. My favorite sandwich is their sausage creole. I have never been disappointed by their food or service. Portion sizes are fairly large but they do offer small and large options. I will absolutely be going again!
in my top 5 of all time, it's hard not to love PBP. the po boys are excellent, of course. The wings go crazy. Best fried cauliflower in town, with an absolutely perfect texture. Also the salted caramel vanilla milkshake is a truly world-class shake. I could go on but just go see for yourself.
Great prices for tasty sandwiches. The turtle pie milkshake is a must. Staff is always very friendly. They have regular specials that are creative and unique, and the weekend biscuits and honey are a guilty pleasure.
Great food and the employees all were very nice! Look forward to eating there everytime we're in the area! It's become our new spot!
Excellent! Loved the fried oysters, fried pickles, and Cajun fries. Great service too!
We will be back anytime we are in town :)
This restaurant was phenomenal! I got fried pickles and a grilled cheese with bacon... Absolutely to die for. The fried pickles are sliced nice and long too, not like normal "chip" cut pickles. You have got to go here if you're in the area.
I am a straight truck driver from CT who happened to make some deliveries in Portland. I was looking for some truck friendly areas where I could bring back some seafood. I found this place through Google. I drove there and saw that there was limited parking but was able to park on the street on the restaurant side. I called and I explained to them that I was excited to try their food but I was in a big truck with limited places to park. He told me that he would get my order going while I drove around the neighborhood to better situate my truck on the road.
The gentleman was swift, kind and accommodating. He wished me luck on my travels and thanked me for choosing his restaurant. This is why I love Maine, because of the great hospitality of the people who live here and the boys at Po'Boys are no different. Also now that I know there are vegan/vegetarian options for your Po'Boys like cauliflower, I look forward to stopping by and trying those.
Don't miss out on their Lemon Cornmeal Cookies!
I eat here with my family quite frequently. The food is great, I especially recommend the bbq pulled pork sandwich and/or chili cheese fries! The only complaint I have about this place is that the takeout containers and every pickle container (they give you a small container with pickles in every order) is made of plastic! Sometimes the silver ware is metal which is good, but plastic cups aren’t my favorite. I know it would cost more money, but I would enjoy this place a lot more if there was less plastic waste. Thank you!
This is an awesome place. The food is excellent, the service is outstanding, and the prices are great.
They have a pretty sizable menu and all good. I recommend coming back again and again trying something new untill you find your favourite.
Great service! Beginning of a rush with a new kid on the register but one of the veterans kept everything running smoothly and even brogubt our food out to us. I had the angry pig which was delicious and my girlfriend had the dirty bird and said the bread was delicious. Great portions for the sides and the shakes are delicious.
Great taste. Good presentation.
Absolutely phenomenal sandwiches. Don't sleep on their wings either. Haven't tried the patty melts but they are next on my list.
Man this was a pretty solid sandwich. I wish I could have tried them all. Service at the counter was quick and courteous. The atmosphere was funky and unpretentious. Location is fine. I'd go again and get a different sandwich! The shrimp Po boy was fine, but I have a feeling others are better.
They charge more of you can't have the bread because, "we have to use plastic". Also, apparently they don't make their own jalapeño cornbread, which was out because of a "shortage". Sorry guys wanted to love it, but I won't be back.
There isn't a way to express how much I adore their food... Highly recommend : Roasted veg salad (add falafel), fried pickles, fried shrimp sandwich/basket, grilled cheese, and cajun fries (the list could continue but these are my favs).. It's all so good!! Thank you Po' Boys & Pickles for being an all around great food place.
An awesome little sandwich shop I've been grabbing food from for years. The fries are crispy, the shakes are thick, and whatever bread the sandwich is made on is like Mana from heaven. A little more transparency around where they source meat would be great, but not super expected since that isn't really a part of their mission. One of the best sandwich joints in Portland for sure.
Friendly staff and quick, delicious eats. Probably the best sandwich I've had around Portland in a hot minute.
Amazing authentic shrimp po' boy with Cajun fries. New favorite spot in town.
Excellent sandwiches. My favorite is the Peacemaker because fried shrimp just need fried oysters. Also great local brews available. Don't expect to bring a big group here to sit down and eat, seating is pretty much limited to a maximum of 4.
I don’t get to Portland often but the last couple of times I stopped in and enjoyed the food. So many options I want to try but haven’t had the chance yet. The food is good and the staff are friendly. I look forward to my next trip to Po’ boys & Pickles
Been going to Po boys for the better part of a year now. Always very friendly people that remember your face. If you want a sandwich that’s going to blow you away this is the place to be. Highly suggest the fried pickles, cheese burger, and their cookies are a must have. I’ve seen people order a cookie then come back an hour later and order 12 more lol. My 2 notes for eating here would be that there sandwiches are massive. If your not a big eater probably order a half. Seating can also be limited at busy hours but the outside seating is always a fun option in good weather. Definitely a place to check out for lunch.
Food is great but they are always so busy it usually takes 45min to an hour after ordering to pickup so i dont suggest stopping in on lunch break. The fried cauliflower is amazing.
I've eaten lunch here often as I work in the area. The food is great and they are fast enough to get me back to work within my lunch hour. I love everything I have tried, dirty bird sandwich, pulled pork and my favorite: the Cajun fish basket. Great desserts, shakes and fries too!
This place is the real deal. I lived most of my life in New Orleans area and now live on the east coast. This place is the only place I have found that made me feel like I was home. Shrimp po boy was awesome. I will go back another time before I head back to New York. Nate was the guy helping us out and he could not have been nicer he answered all of the questions and helped us.
Convenience fee to order online for pick up of a $1.50 lol wow.. not very convenient. Guess they would rather us call for free and create more of a hassle for employees. ( In response to your response.. that's rediculous in 2022 you have to pay a third party to collect money for an order? Who is maintaining your site? It is so easy to collect money that fact you cant do this in house is mind blowing.. I know local mom and pop shops that can take online orders with out chargin a convenience fee. If you need recommendations on how to run your site with out having to pay a 3rd party company to take a credit card convenience fee would be glad to point you in a direction.. I know people locally that it's litterly caused them to order else where and I know you don't want to lose business..)
Awesome sandwich, incredible service, and the best macaroon, (possibly the best cookie) I’ve ever put in my mouth. Thank you!! ❤️
Best buffalo wings in Portland. Perfect sauce to wing ratio. Crispy, tender, tasty. Check them out! @thatwingguy on Instagram for pictures and other great wing spots.
Great food and place to meet with others. Despite the good food, it is a little pricey. Someone in our group got a grilled cheese for 5$ w/ no fries or anything! I got a burger for 10$ w/ no fries or anything else. Despite the relatively steep price, the food was still good.
Really, really good sandwiches. Not a great vegetarian meal destination, but the staff are great and they'll do their best for you. Muffletta is the word. Great spicy fries, free drink refills, and these amazing, decadent, gooey macaroons that you will have to take home because your sandwich was huge and the fries were amazing and the drinks were unlimited. Prices are what you'd expect for a really good sandwich. Plan to spend $10ish for a sandwich & $20 for the whole shebang. And don't forget to tip the helpful, enthusiastic, upbeat staff who make it happen.
This is a GREAT - GREAT - sandwich restaurant in the northwestern part of suburban Portland, ME. Absolutely delicious sandwiches, cooked to order.
Small parking lot, so you might want to street park your car and walk. You'll need the exercise walking back as the portions are generous.
A small taste of home for a fella a long way from it. Staff puts the effort in to be authentic and respectful. Will certainly go back.
This is an amazing local place that was a lot better than we expected from the outside. They even have a decent selection of beer on tap, and all the food was good.
A small warning: the sides are a little bigger than one may expect, so might want to go easy on them. The fried pickles were some of the best though.
I ordered thru 2DineIn.
Onion rings and the tartar sauce....... gone. Done. Tasty. Fried Oyster sandwich is definitely the way to go. Their spicy mayo kicks it up a notch.
Was a decent one person meal for take out!
Love, love, love Po' Boys and Pickles, nicknamed Pickle Ricks by my fiance. Their sandwich selection is huge, and delicious. However, they have hands down the best fried pickles. If you're in the area be sure to give them a try!
The food is so flavorful! Seriously, it's sooo good! The patty melt and the angry pig are both top notch and def get the cajun fries
Love this place whenever I visit Maine I make sure to stop. Amazing food and genuine flavor. Have been coming here for years. Really upset they don’t have boudin balls anymore!
Been a great date night spot! They make greate fried pickles and some out of this world macarons! And don't even get me started with the fries (tldr I like them alot) 10/10 would recommend
Po' Boys has never let me down, not even at their busiest.
Everything I've ever tried on their menu is delicious, from their appetizers down to their revolving specials and even baked goods and milkshakes.
My favorite sandwich is the "Debris" po boy, which is loaded with slow-cooked pot roast, gravy, and horseradish mayo. And they have the best coconut macaroons on the planet.
Seriously, go here for any meal - breakfast, lunch, or dinner. (Sundays they do killer biscuits and gravy)
We ordered our sandwiches at 3:30 or so for a 5:40 pick-up. We did so because their phone tends to be endlessly busy. Apparently our Reubens were constructed at the ordering time and the fries were served up then as well. In any case, the sandwiches were room temperature and the fries were limp and cold. Putting the fries in a 475 oven (not pleasant on an 80 degree day) and zapping the Reubens in the microwave for 1 minute resulted in excellent sandwiches and decent fries. The question is can I count on food fresh from the grill and/or oven next time?
After years of hearing how amazing this place was, I finally tried it. The owner went out of his way to make sure we had a good experience. The food was more than amazing (really incredible), and the portions generous. Can't wait for more.
Very tasty comfort food. Quick, friendly service. Price is a little high for a lunch place, but it's worth it if you are hankering for a taste of the Big Easy.
Remember to try the shakes; the turtle one is my favorite!
I’ve ate here a few times now. Always good, but today I ordered the Krumpus!! Absolutely amazing!! Great job, great place!!
Closest thing to NOLA food ive had out here in New England. I got the golden shrimp po boy. It didn't disappoint. I would have liked some creol spice in the shrimp batter but it was fine. I also tried the doughnut balls (cant rememever the name) with dark chocolate dip, it was really good. I saw the surf and turf sandwich (not NOLA obvs) but the roast beef was top quality. I would recommend going here
Lunch time visit with Grandson from down South He has never had a bad meal at Po Boys. Service was friendly and fast. Food was perfect. No problems ever with Po Boys and we visit over 5 times a year.
I don’t usually leave reviews but this place has consistently been in my top 3 places to eat in Portland. From the peacemaker to the dirty bird everything is fantastic. Don’t forget to grab some pickled vegetables either they’re 🔥. …
Amazing sandwiches, great staff and always a quick turn around. If I could give them 6 stars I would!
My husband & I just tried this place for the 1st time, BEST sandwich we’ve tried anywhere in Southern Maine!! We WILL be back😊 Thanksgiving Po Boy & Fried Chicken Cutlet, wicked! …
I have ordered from this place many times via 2DineIn over the last few weeks. Their blackened fish poboy has kept my spirit from crashing and burning with all this insanity.
Thank you for having delicious foods, thank you for being there through this pandemic, and thank you to all your employees.
The local favorite! Fantastic fresh sandwiches, local atmosphere, reasonable prices. Can't beat $2 drafts on Sun-Wed.
My favorite sandwich by far is the Pulled Pork sandwich.
Must also try fried pickles (the best ones I've had).
Yeah I worked here for six years, and it's just damn good. Get a milkshake. Eat a cookie tip the cup.
The place was packed and it took far too long to get our food, but man when it got there... SO good! My Caribbean jerk wings were cooked to a crunchy perfection and tasted amazing. The blackened fish po-boy and Cajon fries took my husband on a culinary journey to the bayou - c'est tres bon!
This place has been great for about ten years. Every time we come to Maine we stop here. The seafood sandwiches are the best.
Unique food considering we're in Maine! Their fried food baskets are also amazing and the beer is cheap and delicious. Awesome lunch spot though it's on busy Forest Ave.
Delicious and fairly priced sandwiches! Staff is friendly and the wait for food is not bad. They've got milkshakes and other fare besides sandwiches. Would recommend.
The food here is just amazing. The Ruben was packed with yummy corned beef, and the chili fries where sooooo good. Relaxed atmosphere with awesome table service. Def a "must go again".
Quick and tasty alternative to cooking at home when you're running late and/or want a treat! Decent prices for made to order sandwiches and platters. And the homemade bread is amazing!
Time of Visit: Lunch on the 21st
Order: Blackened fish sandwich, and cajun fried
Pros: Blackened fish was incredible
Cons: Bread was just average, parking could get out of hand when very busy
Thoughts: The blackened fish sandwich here is out of this world! We went here on the way to the airport with my parents and got 3 large blackened fish sandwiches. First of all when they say large, what they really mean is 2 medium sandwiches on one tray, so if you get a large, you had better be hungry. Once you get over the shock of how much you just got and bite in…holy crap this is some of the best fish I've ever eaten, and by far the best blackened fish sandwich I've ever eaten. You get a ton of fish on this thing; it isn't your normal fish sandwich where you get a little fish with your bread. This is a pile of fish between toppings sandwich and it is SO GOOD! The cajun fries were also incredible but honestly if you get a large fish sandwich you really don't need anything else. I do wish that their bread was just a bit higher quality and it might move from the best blackened fish sandwich to the best sandwich of all. Definitely check this place out if you're ever in Portland.
Consistent, hearty, and all around good options for everyone.
Stopped here today and had some of the best wings! We got the Cajun honey flavor and loved it!
It's safe to say that I have tried every sandwich on the menu so far. This is a great lunch stop during a particularly stressful work day - you get a great quality sandwich for a incredibly reasonable price.
Ate a quick order of spicy fries here one time while waiting for someone. They were just opening and quick with my order. The food was hot and not too bland.
Finally got a chance to try this place out. It's AMAZING! It initially seemed a little pricey for a sandwich, but once I realized how big the sandwiches were and the quality of them, completely worth every cent! Can't wait to come back
the gumbo's pretty good. not bad for Maine. the po' boy wasn't bad either. its no new Orleans but the food's pretty good for Maine. last place I'd expect new Orleans food to be made pretty well. definitely the spot if you like Cajun cookin.
Wonderful sandwiches. Little pricey but large portions. They were HUGE when they first opened but there was about a year where they were skimpy. Glad to see they figured it out.
Great food and atmosphere! Too bad your 600 miles from home, would eat here a lot❤️ Think about branching out.... Come to WNY😁 …
So delicious! My husband and I both grew up in New Orleans, we get the Shrimp PoBoy. It's like being at our favorite PoBoy shop in New Orleans. The bread is the best. Wish we lived near this place.
Pretty good Cajun, not NO, but this is Maine. Would like to see some Gumbo, Shrimp boil, etc, but good.
Amazing. The Voodoo wings are legit
Get the angry pig, the Thai iced tea shake and a macaroon. You'll thank me!
A Cajun Destination in portland. Geat food at decent prices. I give it a 4 because it can be busy, often, and parking usually minimal. If you can overlook those, they have the best fries in Portland (that aren't duck fried or bacon dusted).
There were 5 customers there. Took over an hour to get my sandwhich. I would rather stick my fingers in a pencil sharpener than do that again.
The chicken was pretty tight but it was hard to eat with my fingers bleeding everywhere.
Great food!! Highly recommend the oyster or the shrimp PoBoy. Staff is too notch and you get your food very quickly. Excellent quick lunch spot.
Absolutely LOVE this place! Can never go wrong with the fried oyster po'boy so delicious and always consistent! Great local place.
Great sandwiches, authentic food, friendly staff. Hard to beat on outer Forest Ave.
Easily the best sandwich shop in Portland. Disappointed your Federal st. Location was a covid victim. Will have to head down to forest ave soon!
Great food but the service, while friendly can be slow from my experience. One of the few places you can get a legit po' boy way up heyah. Can't beat it on a hot summer day and it's nice to see that they're so supportive of flood relief, bonus points for charity. :)
I'd heard good things about this place, but my sandwich (the Dirty Bird) was decidedly average. Girl at the counter was friendly, but I had to wait several minutes after my order was up while she gabbed with coworkers.
I can never make up my mind muffellata or oyster and shrimp, both are so good. A little pricy but you get what you pay for. Boudin balls and shakes also great.
Every time I come here, I am never disappointed! Great food, hot and filling. Awesome variety and nice portions. For real, this place has a nice balance...
Awesome! amazing!
Po'Boys and Pickles quickly became one of my favorite places to eat in Portland. Their sandwiches are awesome, and their fried pickles are some of the best I've ever had
New Orleans style comfort food. Fried osters, shrimp, bbq beef, pork, chicken. A different sandwich every visit. Add Louisiana hot sauce to taste. Barstool seating, sports onscreen, always a good music playlist. Order at the counter and wait at a table with your favorite beverage.
Love love love the pickles. They are an excellent combination of sour and garlic. Every time I go I always make sure to order extra!
Incredible. The foods so good and the price is great especially for Portland. I really cannot reccomend this place enough! Get the Reuben and gravy fries.
Food is great! Come here every so often just for their coconut macaroons too. Wish there was a bit more seating though.
Wow! When you come to a place named Po' Boys & Pickles, you should get the fried pickles and a Po'Boy-and both of those here are awesome.
We took the recommendation of 3 different groups of locals about going here for lunch after Bissell Bros and we could not have been more happy. Awesome Cajun food in ME. Get the Creole sausage po'boy-incredible.
Delicious! Three cheers for that Cajun cooking . The Angrily Pig and Dirty Birds were crowd pleasers
Take it from someone who lived in New Orleans - going to Pickles made me feel like I was back on Claiborne Ave in NOLA (see Frostop). Great blackened fish poboy complete with Crystal sauce - classic Lagniappe!
Quality is inconsistent but rarely bad. They are a bit slow as well. With "pickles" in the name I'd expect that even their side sandwich pickles would be homemade.
Awseome twist on a pulled pork sandwich...add Jalapeño! It was delicious. Best fried pickles in Portland. Consistently yummy.
I'm a Louisianian, a true New Orleans native, & I approve of this place. The po'boys are on real New Orleans french bread & that's what makes a po'boy differ from a sub or a sandwich. Great job ya'll.
They have the BEST WINGS in town, and they're not even a wings place!! Creole sausage and the jambalaya have never let me down. Great lunch destination!
Good sandwiches on authentic bread. The owner is always coming up with fun new flavors for their signiture sandwiches, cookies, wing sauces, and drinks
Good food. It isn't going to make me feel like I've found Louisiana authentic food in Maine, but it is good. Simple, tasty, affordable food.
We had a wonderful experience the food and the service is amazing! The servers and cooks care are passionate about the products and it shows in how knowledgeable they are.
They have a pulled pork sandwich with pickled jalepenos, pulled pork and spicy mayo called the "angry pig" jamaican jerk sauce...it is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had!! You have to try this creation....
Tons of great flavors. Tasty spicy dishes if you want to kick it up a notch.
Leave room for the macaroons. Seriously, these things are from heaven.
Very nice sandwiches. My favorite is the Ray Nagin which has turkey sliced with coleslaw on a buttery rye toast with some kind of taste very good
We have yet to get a bad sandwich here, and the salads are out of this world. Funny enough, the grilled cheese is our go-to since it is cheap, nostalgic, and so gooey!
Amazing food and the best peanut butter cookies I've had in a long time. You could literally pick anything off the menu and it's going to be delicious.
Great sandwiches and wings! Fantastic milkshake flavors too.
Awesome sandwiches and deep fried pickles, with some great vegetarian options
It was my first time in Maine and I googled the place. It was the best choice I made the food was amazing. I can't stop thinking about those macroons.
Love the creole sausage and also the macaroons ! Everything is great including the service.
Food is pretty good for the price. The fried pickles are bomb. Beer selection is good for a small place. Affordable lunch.
The praline bacon egg and cheese biscuit is hands down the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had.
Pulled pork sandwich is one of the best in Portland. The other southern themed dishes are also very tasty
Great food and amazing staff! Makes me feel like I'm back in Louisiana! Highly recommend the Angry Pig!
Stop & get a sandwich, you’ll be glad you did. The Reuben, Chicken cutlet & Thai tea shake are all 👍👍
It lived up to the hype, great place!
Probably the best thing we ate the whole weekend. Tables were a little sticky and only one bathroom, but the sandwich was great!
Best po boy in New England. The fried pickles are great too, but the fried onions are a hidden gem
So insanely good. The proportions were good, the prices good, and the flavors of the food out of this world. Definitely worth a visit (or more)!
Really great sandwiches, would recommend
Great comfort food. Get the fried pickles on the side.
Great locally owned place! Fun atmosphere and amazing food!
The food has good flavor. It's a friendly environment with some tasty food. Great for a quick meal.
Great food at reasonable prices and freindly staff... Definitely our favorite sandwich shop
Never had a po boy, had their shrimp and oyster version. It was delicious. Very good experience, staff are great.
Like a church's chicken went to New Orleans. Pickles are just regular pickles. Ironically their milkshakes were good.
What a great sandwiches selection.
Love that place
Glad we stopped in for a bite because everything was awesome! I recommend this place it was great!
What a great sandwich! Go out of your way to visit Po' Boys & Pickles.
Great food. On the pricy side but worth it for quality. Can get packed quickly but usually not a long wait.
The food was good and Josh was great....we are glad we finally tied you out after 4 years of talking about it.
Best sandwich shop in town. I have tried about 75% of their menu at this point and haven't found anything I don't like!
The roasted chicken and the blackened fish sandwiches were absolutely delicious. They also have a killer chocolate milkshake.
Easy to see why this is a local favorite! Set apart from the touristy area and the appearance is nothing fancy, but the food and atmospphere is great. Highly recommended!
Atomic patty melt is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had and their milkshakes are always a bonus
Outstanding, authentic N'awlins food. Po Boys and fried pickles just like you'd find in the Quarter! And yes, we're from N'awlins, so know!
Great food. I love the rolls. Location is a bit noisy, but plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor.
Tried this place for the first time. Its supposrd to based off their Louisiana spice. Maybe in need of a little more keep to that southern flavor. Native of Alabama speaking.
From Georgia but have stopped in here a few times while in town for business and have enjoyed everything I've tried! The oyster po'boy was the best!!!!
Really great sandwiches, friendly people. Bread is particularly great, and oh man the macaroons. Get on it!
The coconut macaroons and pickles are my favorite but really you can't go wrong with any of the food here.
Their business is picking up and they're doing a yeoman's job in keeping up! One of Portland's Best Little Sandwich shops.
Tad pricey, but it's expensive to eat food hand made by employees payed a living wage. You'll leave full!
Try the shakes. I like the Key Lime.
Their Blackened Fish sandwich is one of, if not THE best sandwich in Portland!
Very good selection of sandwiches. Wait is a little longer than one would expect, but the quality is worth a couple extra minutes.
They have a nice shop here and have surprisingly good chicken wings.
Great food, great service, beer selection good for a little sandwich shop. Highly recommend for a casual date.
The food was excellent, but the cleanliness could have been better.
A little slice of NOLA culture right here in Portland, Maine. Everything is well crafted and as close to authentic as you can hope for being so far away from the source.
One of our favorite places in Portland, love the Peacemaker and the coconut macaroons are so good
You must try the food here. Quality is excellent, but be warned- the portion sizes are quite small for the price.
The Uptown is one of the best falafel sandwiches you'll ever have. One of the vegetarian highlights in Portland.
Had the blackened fish, Cajun fries and macaroons. All very tasty!
very friendly staff and delicious food. i’d recommend the angry pig and the macaroons
Good sandwiches, fried pickles were good but not the best I've ever had. A spot I'd go back to to try other sandwiches
Really good food you can't find anywhere else in Portland. You might want to call ahead. Sometimes they get busy.
Maybe not your most economical lunch, but the quality is good and the menu is pretty unique.
Great tasting, reasonably priced sandwiches. Go check it out if you’re in Portland or passing through Portland.
Decent sandwich and shake didn't make up for moderately high price and long wait (to be fair, it was pretty busy for lunch).
One of the classic establishments that has given Portland its reputation as a destination for food.
Great food!! Recommend the chief! Amazing roast beef sandwich. Good wings too
Fantastic! Went there on a whim and ordered the ray nagin! Awesome taste and the fries and the cold beer were just as exceptional!
Their oyster po'boy was just about as good as MOST of the oyster po' boys served in New Orleans that I have tried, and not a bad price for oysters, IMO
If you want a really great sandwich this is the place to go and their sweet potato fries and their homemade honey mustard to die for
Delicious! We had the shrimp and oyster po boys and gumbo. All were top nosh.
This place! If I lived in Portland I would eat here every day!
Uhm i gota cheeseburger on texas garlic toast? Didnt know it existed but wow that burger was fire 🔥. I could eat these every night of the week. …
Great beer specials Monday & Tuesday's on beer. Nice place for a quick bite, and a cold brew.
Constantly great food. Excellent quality and great staff. Will be back.
Sandwiches were excellent, fries were fair, service was outstanding!
Lived in New Orleans for 10 years. The po-boys are perfection. The french bread alone is worth the visit!
Great food everytime
Went there for dinner as I sometimes do on my way home after work, and the food and staff never disappoint! And I must say there were some cuties working also;-p
I work in the neighborhood and eat there often. My favorite is the blackend fish Sando w fried pickles.
Excellent food and a great atmosphere! By far one of the best lunch spots in Portland.
I liked the shrimp basket
One of the few great places out on Forest ave. Their Uptown sandwich is always a win along with sweet potato fries
Pretty good food. Small space for seating but in nice weather it's great to sit outside.
Great service, quick, friendly and food is fresh and hot.
Great sandwiches and NOLA food. Not a fancy setting but super delicious.
Awesome large sandwiches, solid shakes and the best macaroons! Worth a visit or 2!
Always great food! Best place to get new Orleans style food without the travel to new orleans!
First visit and it was wonderful! Will definitely go back. Unpretentious, but good food and service.
Delicious food, very friendly staff and quick service. Best Gumbo in town.
The place is small and unassuming but the sandwiches and the milkshakes were very good!
Great customer service! Delicious food!!!!! Love love love deffinitely a 5 star to me
Great food. Love their biscuit sandwiches, shakes and deserts. Will be back.
Authentic New Orleans cuisine! So good!
Decent place for quick food the bbq was a little dry other then that good food for a small shop pretty impressed
Good fish sandwich. I'm going back to try some of the other items on the menu.
Great place. Different. Awesome and well prepared food. Food mixtures are surprisingly good.
Beautiful afternoon for a socially distant lunch using picnic tables (outside) provided by Po'Boys & Pickles.
Phenomenal! The people. The red beans'n rice. The pickles. The sweet, brewed tea! I love this place.
Food is good but it takes them too long to make you a sandwich.
The macaroons are an absolute win!
Really good sandwiches. The bottled root beer is also a hidden gem.
Excellent food, great service, love this place. Only thing is there is no AC on right now.
Nick was very helpful and the food was excellent. I will definitely be a repeat customer.
Sandwich is ok but you might want to pack a picnic for the wait in line. Bit expensive for what you get.
Great Food! Just a little bit of a wait during the work week at noon, worth it
I love this place so much. Thai tea milk shake and cheeseburger po-boy are my favorite.
Always great food and service, even when they're slammed. $2.50 drafts Monday and Tuesday.
Had to give this place a try prior to going to New Orleans. It definitely cures the craving.
Love me some sticky toffee pudding and the shrimp sandwich is good as well.
Friendly staff, great sandwiches and BEST MACAROONS EVER. Period.
Worth a visit for sure. If you are driving by stop and enjoy some great food, chicken cutlet is A+
Most everything is good here, occasionally the preparation can be a little hit and miss.
Great food!!! small dining area but take out is an option 😀 …
Delicous food, great prices. One of the best lunch spots in Portland!
Great food and a great location. The service can be a bit rude sometimes, just a fair warning.
Great place for sandwiches all kinds of different sandwiches they are at reasonable prices
The sandwiches are absolutely fire 🔥. I love their BLT with the egg. …
We love this small sandwich shop. Always good and fast service
Food is good. Service is excellent. Location is limited on seating.
The food is still phenomenal but since the sale things are a little slow
Great food and large portions; prices are a little steep.
Good food, a tad pricey for what you get, but it was filling and delicious.
One of my absolute fave places to eat. 100% everytime!
The sandwiches here are so good that my wife has a lot more free time.
Hands down the best sandwiches in town.
Milk shakes are great also.
Always a good value, and a good representative of Cajon food in Portland, ME
Really friendly and knowledgeable staff who actually enjoy and have tried all the offerings. Looking forward to stopping by again.
Love most of their sandwiches. Make sure to try a macaroon!
Great po boy sandwiches, and the chocolate milkshake was really good!
Outstanding reuben sandwich, but I suggest adding some Thousand Island dressing to it.
Good food, shakes are ok.
WOW! I wish I had gone here years ago. I might have known how good a muffaletta is.
Good for a relatively quick meal. Great sandwiches, wings, and milk shakes.
It may not be the first menu item that comes to mind, but the wings are fantastic!!! Seriously!!!
Great food! It can get a bit pricey if you get sides
First time ever eating there and it was great ..
Great sandwiches, unless your sharing go with a half
Great food, cool ambience, good prices. I love this place!
