I didn't realize I was walking into a legend. Fantastic Italian based sandwich shop and bodega. I wouldn't need a grocery store if I lived by this place. Top quality Maine Italian and anything you want to drink. I got a cider. Highly recommend.

Easy stop to grab hot or cold ready to go or order onsite items. Nice selection of local craft beers, wines or champagne as well as non alcoholic beverages to grab with your meal. Fresh salads and sandwiches in the cooler as well as items to take home and heat later. Call ahead or order in pastas, hot subs, pizzas to go as well. Limited parking, however not hard to get in and out. Nice spot with friendly staff and deserts to take with you.

Walked 7 min from the train station because we were early! Had a cold spicy Italian and a hot steak and cheese - they were so good!!!! Staff were so kind, service was great! Small, quaint - get a drink and food for the road plus a sandwich all in the same place! Highly recommend!!!

A convenience store doesn't always scream "culinary deliciousness", especially where we are from in Cleveland, OH. However, Anania's was a game-changer! I got a fish sandwich, was was delicious even if it was from a seaside restaurant. My wife got a HUGE and delicious piece of lasagna. Those whoopie pies are something else! Wow!

My boyfriend and I went in for coffee at about 1:25 p.m. And, of course there was no longer any out, being afternoon and all. But, the man at the front counter (owner?), was very kind and offered us what he had for coffee left in a big, metal coffee pot behind him. He gave it to us for half price. It was good coffee, too!! Nice store and great customer service!

Old school double ham and cheese!! So thick! That's the way they made 'em in the 80s! Hard to find anyone who makes sandwiches with more than 2 slices of ham. This place is great!

They do a great job, the place is clean, plenty of staff to assist convenience store items with an Italian twist and breakfast lunch and dinner Meg's the sandwiches pizza subs and Italian dinners the lotto full beverage and friendly atmosphere you could sit down and eat your sandwich. I wouldn't say it's dine in. I work I could surely rest any the bar type seating available. Follow the specials.

These folks were swamped during my visit with a lot of out of state guests on a weekend but my order was made quickly and correctly and the service was great. I had a train to catch and they made sure to get me out the door with my order with plenty of time to spare. Definitely my neighborhood go-to!

Grabbed lunch while in Portland for Doctor appointment, chicken Caesar wrap was absolutely fabulous, hubby’s cheesesteak was good (he’s from PA, so never gonna be as good as home), and peanut butter Whoopie pie was awesome. Hope to go back next week, have another doctor appointment

Employees at the Congress St location always seem to be in a rush to get customers out of the store. Not typically very friendly, usually seem annoyed when placing an order at the counter. Although veggies for Italians are fresh they are very skimpy - even on a double (only 3 olives cut in half on a large). Employees seems in so much of a rush that order is typically wrong (order large double Italian, no green pepper, salt, pepper, & mayo) but never provided how requested - either oil instead of mayo (most common) or green pepper. Location is the only reason I have been back multiple times due to convenience.

Excellent food no matter what you order! They are friendly and very considerate as to what you like and don't like. They're getting five stars cuz they went above and beyond they were short-staffed they only had two people and the line was wrapped around out the door they managed to get everybody in and out as fast as possible I stayed there and enjoyed my sandwich and I seen these wonderful little knick-knacks they had on the wall but somebody had made out of sea glass and it was beautiful as nice little piece of art that was there and the staff immediately friendly and apologizing for the inconvenience of the line being big but they are moving as fast as they can to get everybody in and wonderful ananias never had an issue when I'm gone here in the past and I'm hoping that continuous

My husband and I love it there. It is very quick service. We have picked up sandwiches to take on the train or have stopped in after apt. In town. There is a little lunch counter area to eat which we love. Though very simple it has a good view of the street and Tony's. The people give very good customer service and show interest and warmth. My husband loves the turkey club and I try different things and enjoy them. We consider Anania's "our spot."

This is a favorite stop when we travel to Portland, as it is an easy walk from the Amtrak station (exit station, cross to taxi holding circle, walk down Sewall St. to Congress St.). Fresh Italians are the best! Courteous, fast service. There is a small counter inside which seats maybe 5, usually available as most of their business is takeout. If the counter is full, there are a couple of picnic tables outside towards the back. Perfect spot to grab sandwiches and snacks for the train ride home.

Voted best Italian sandwiches in Portland for the last 11 years in a row. Nuff Sed! If you're "from away" you should understand that an Italian is similar to (yet quite distinct from) a cold submarine sandwich or hoagie. Typically consists of a long, freshly baked bread roll that looks like a foot long Frankfurter roll, crammed full of ham, cheese, pickles, tomatos, black olives, green pepper, and onions topped with olive oil and salt/pepper.

Everything here is good and they also have gluten free choices but I especially love their chicken salad which is phenomenal, I usually get it with lettuce onions tomatoes and Greek olives but aby combo would be delicious.

After not eating out for years due to celiac as well as (anaphylactic) tomato allergy, I had the best sub today! Not a big bread person but the G-Free sub roll was excellent, just the right amount of bread with a delish taste!! It was bigger than I expected as well, gluten free tends to be smaller. I appreciate so much how my tomato allergy was spoken about to the person making my sandwich and care was taken while making it! It's hard to trust people making your food when you have serious allergies but I will for sure be trusting the people at Anania's again. Thanks for the delish food, I look forward to trying my whoopie pie and blueberry muffin!!
