Reviews of Woodrow's Sandwich Shop
James Buterbaugh
Had to give this place a shot. They use a cherry mayo that just works so well with the whole cheesesteak. The meat was good. The truffle cheese was excellent. It seems you can only order online through the many QR codes they have up in the shop. Inside is a little small but looks nice with the decor that they have up. I didn’t wait too long for my food but also didn’t get it a few seconds after I ordered. Which is good so I know that it’s fresh. I would definitely rank this one amongst the top 5 cheesesteak places in Philly if that’s what you’re looking for

This was a different cheesesteak experience than I was used to. There is a truffle flavor to the beef which definitely makes it taste unique and more "expensive" which this place is. It's a bit more expensive than the competition but is very good. Rivals John's roast pork for me.
The Cajun fries were also quite good.

The Philly Cheesesteaks were fabulous. And huge. We ordered two for the 3 of us (because you can’t order a half sandwich) and it was more than enough. They make their own cheese sauce, so apparently (hopefully!) it’s not just Velveeta! The steak is chopped not shaved. The French fries were amazing. They have a very nice selection of soft drinks both common and off beat.
The restaurant is small but they had seating for us (3) no problem.
Mark
We tried for Geno's but it was so packed and no parking. We ended up coming here and parked right in front of the door.
When dining in, You're greeted with a QR code at the table and order right from your phone. So I guess it's kinda harder for older people to order.
The cheese steak was AMAZING. The cheese is what makes the entire sandwich, I just wish there was more cheese.
I was afraid the fries would be soggy because of how thick they are but they were cooked PERFECTLY. Not a soggy one in the bunch. They would be amazing with the cheese on them too.
I am so glad we were able to eat here.
They have WAY more than just cheese steaks, next time I would try the Cubano.

We were looking for someplace to eat on the way to the airport. I had the meatball sandwich which was really good. My husband had the cheese steak which had truffle wiz on it. He hates truffles but on the advice of the gentleman at the shop he had us sample it. It was really good. My husband ended up enjoying the sandwich with the truffle wiz. The fries were very good. You can order ahead for pick up. If you dine in you scan the QR code on the table, order and pay all through your phone. Then they deliver right to your table. The food was good, and the people were nice. I would recommend this place.
HAN'S GARAGE
I'm comparing this place to Little Sicily Pizza 2. Meat portion, in my opinion, fantastic. Bread was soft and not too overwhelming. Cheese, on the other hand, I'm not a huge fan of it. I think they tried to make something different and possibly stand out? Honest opinion, I think it's make it or break it for others out there. Service was okay, not bad but not great, the environment isn't too great either, I would not want to sit down and eat in this place. Not a place, I would be eager to go back again.
Dan Allison
Pretty busy but you can order online (pretty much have to). Smaller inside but a lot of very interesting (good) takes on the classic cheese steak. Fries are on point (also good). You can probably skip the huge line down the street and have a great cheese steak. Thanks Woodrow (whoever you are).

Staff are very sweet and helpful, small space (no tables were available when we walked in but within 15 minutes 2 cleared) but food came quickly and tasted good. Bit more expensive than I think it's worth, but it was a positive experience. The Egg Hash is a great sandwich for people who like breakfast at any time of day, and the chicken steak was really flavorful. French fries were fabulous, they're really powering this review haha. Bathroom is old but clean.

Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The classic cheesesteak with the truffle wiz (even ordered more of it) was insaneeeeeee. So much meat, amazing bun, onions etc. It was jaw dropping. 100% a must visit. Also had the Cajun fries which were sublime.
About $11 for the sandwich, others all looked great too. Service was quick and no frills, order via the QR code on the table and no chatting really! Would be nicer with some interaction but not an issue when the food is this good.

Woodrow’s has fresh everything. French fries were pipping hot and crispy. The mixed green salad was very tasty and refreshing on a hot day. Now I ordered “the Honey” fried chicken sandwich and the “Whiz Wit (Cheesesteak,Woody Style)” and the hoagie was super soft and the rib-eye and homemade truffle wiz was really good. I will return again to enjoy the fresh homemade food! To order scan the QR code and pay via square.

Woodrow’s cheesesteak is top tier. The very aroma of the sandwich is amazing and the taste matches. Very simple but very worth it. The Cajun fries were a bit too seasoned for my taste but everyone else enjoyed them with the dipping sauces.
Paolo Sarmenghi
The cheese steak the fries and the honey sandwich were good. We had waited just a little bit and eating inside wasn’t the best experience every. However I suggest you to try yourself.
Marvin Gibson
We were visiting Philadelphia from out of state and we decided to go on a Philly Cheesesteak quest. I am sure everyone has a place that is their passionate favorite, but we agreed the Woodrow's Philly Cheesesteak with truffle oil was our favorite. Woodrow's has a very efficient ordering system where you order and pay online from your table and your food and drink is delivered to your table.
Maryn Teed
So good! My favorite Italian hoagie I’ve ever had and honestly might be the best cheesesteak in the city! French fries were so legit, not greasy either! And fun soda I’ve never had, but will get again!
Quateria Mckenzie
I went to two restaurants in Philly to try a cheesesteak and this was my favorite of the two. I wouldn’t say it was my absolute favorite of all the cheesesteaks that I’ve ever eaten but it was the most unique. It was different. Luckily, I was looking for a combination of different and good. The truffle cheese and cherry Mayo is probably what made this stand out from any cheesesteak that I’ve ever eaten while being good to my tastebuds. The fries were okay but I don’t personally think it’s worth the price. I’ll definitely eat here again if I ever came back to Philadelphia.
Kary Rojas
Amazing service! I ordered online and asked if I could have the sauce on the side since I was going to travel with it so my mom could try it. I got my order with both meat and sauce on the side and the bread wrapped nicely. My mom loved the quality and taste. Thank you guys! :)
Lundi McIntyre
One of the best cheesesteaks I’ve ever had. Their fries aren’t bad either. Limited seating, but folks seemed to come and go pretty quickly so there wasn’t a long wait to sit down, even for a group of 5.
Amanda
Ordered the cubano and the basil caper chicken sandwich. There was significant wait time and the indoors space is pretty crowded. The cubano was delicious—the bread was toasty and crisp, plus I liked the dijonnaise. On the other hand, the basil caper chicken sandwich was just okay. The chicken was cooked to be very moist but it inadvertently made the whole sandwich a bit soggy and hard to eat.

Was strolling along South Street when I decided to pop into this shop for a sandwich. Walked in and was greeted by the owner, who asked if I was dining in or taking out. I indicated that I would be dining in and he directed me to sit at any table and order through the QR code.
They had a great selection of sandwiches. I was tempted by the brisket but went with the shrimp po'boy. After placing my order I stopped at the restroom and my sandwich was ready when I got back. It was a great sandwich. Flavorful bread, plenty of shrimp and well filled with pickles and tomatoes.
As I was finishing my meal, I noticed a plaque on the wall with Guy Fieri artwork and 3/20 on it. I asked the owner and he said that Guy visited on 3/11, four days before everything shut down. Mr. Fieri went to Flavortown aboard the cheese steak and brisket express. The shop will be celebrating their 6th anniversary on January 12th!
Monique
I loved the cheesesteak and their in-house cheese sauce is the bomb! I was very disappointed with the homemade fries and would skip those next time and just have a bag of chips.
Vincent G
This place was sooo good. The bread had a nice crust and the truffle cheese wizz was so unique on a cheese steak. Usually when people add truffle it over powers everything else, but here they did a good job with balancing the flavors. The truffle is more in the background.
Julian Andrews
I’m typically an American or Provolone cheesesteak eater but wanted to give Woodrow’s a try because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews and reassurance that this isn’t like other whiz shops. I ordered delivery and it arrived within a few minutes outside of the 10-minute delivery window estimate.
When the delivery driver arrived rather than any type of greeting after I said “hello”, she just kept repeating “no tip?” After I tried to explain that I added a tip via the website when I checked out she dismissingly said “next time”. I really don’t know the logistics of the business but that shouldn’t be my issue.
Anyway, the cheesesteak itself was not bad. The whiz was definitely different from other whiz as promised. I’m not sure if the cherry pepper mayo was included on my sandwich because I didn’t taste any added heat. That was probably the biggest letdown since I do typically get hot peppers on my steaks. Overall, if you like cheesesteaks with whiz, I’m sure it is worth a try.
Harry Lime
I heard a lot of good things about this place, so I gave it a try. First things first, THAT ROLL. Arguably the best cheesesteak roll I’ve had. Meat was finely chopped, well seasoned, onions were perfect. My only issue with this cheesesteak was the whiz. It tastes to fancy for me. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind it, but the cheesesteak to me is a whiz wit, blue collar sandwich. I appreciate the effort and I’m sure anyone who doesn’t prefer whiz wit the way I do will love this cheesesteak. With all that being said, I love the variety and will def be back for more. Thank you.

Best Cheesesteak Sandwich I’ve ever had by a mile. I’m a believer now and hope to coke back to Philly and definitely get another classic here!
Yasmin Kane
My family and I travelled from New Jersey to Philadelphia, purely for the reason to try Woodrow’s Sandwich Shop as we had heard that it was amazing. All I can say is that it is definitely worth the journey. The cheesesteak is incredible! The portion sizes are big, the truffle whiz sauce is amazing and the amount of meat they put in is great. I also had the Cajun fries and a pot of the truffle whiz sauce and it was just perfection. And I also ordered the Italian ( which I ate later) and despite eating it sometime after , it was still 10/10. The Italian was so fresh tasting and all the different cured meats and ingredients just meant it was so flavoursome. I’m going back to London soon and I’m going to be dreaming about this place forever.
Jessica Bricker
A solid cheesesteak for lunch while on south street. Inside they have QR CODES on the table and that’s how we placed our order. I’m not sure if they have cash payment available.
They’re cheesesteaks we’re just amazing. I was wary at first because it read it had cheese sauce and I I can’t stand cheese whiz. But this place makes their own and it taste a million times better then I imagined.
Soner Acar
I spent a week in Philly and tried a ton of Philly cheese steak.
I only picked places 4.5 or higher and this was one of them. They absolutely deserved this rating.
Atmosphere is quaint with only a few tables and a very personal vibe.
Service was excellent. The waitress was very nice, you could tell the staff was having a good time and overall pleased.
The food... Got the standard Philly and out of all the ones I tried, this one was truly the best. It's hard to make a bad philly. It's even harder to make a good one. This place is a must.
Sara Marks
Woodrows is the best cheesesteak in town wit wiz. They make their wiz homemade and you can tell the difference. Their sandwiches are never dry and always delicious. I haven’t tried their other items because I can’t pass up the cheesesteak and truffle cheese wiz!
Stewart Brown
Just spent my last few days here in Philly and had about 5 different cheese steaks from different establishments (Yes, I can feel my arteries being clogged). By far this was the best one.
If you are looking for a "traditional" Philly cheese steak, don't come here. They make their own cheese whiz with truffle oil which makes it have it's own unique taste that might upset some of the locals who praise Philly cheese steaks who don't want to alter the original formula.
I was a little disappointed when I found out other "best" cheese steak places didn't meet my expectations at all, and Woodrow's blew me out of the water!
James Paine
Bit more expensive than I expected (sandwich + drink and tip+tax came to about $20) but it was really good. The cherry pepper is super subtle and the truffle flavor really pulls through.
James Rado
Found Woodrow’s through Google while visiting Philly, and it’s the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had! The steak and onions were seasoned and cooked perfectly, and their cheese whiz was on point! Their fries were also delicious, rustic cut and hot and crispy. Extra points for dipping the fries in the whiz, perfection!
Amir Fayek
One of the best truffle items I’ve ever gotten. The truffle wiz is perfect. Even without that this is one of the best cheese steaks in town
Eric Jubeck
We had 5+ cheesesteak stops in Philly, easily my favorite one with the truffle and wonderful cheese wiz
Fener Bahce
I've eaten at all of the cheesesteak spots and simply put this one is miles ahead of them all as "the best." Ive visited philly many times and will say this is the only spot that you should drive here to try. The other so called famous spots all cook mounds of dry steak they drown in cheese whiz. This spot cooks to order, meat is tender, bun is fantastic and the cheese is mixed in so every bite is consistently delicious. I've never been impressed with philly's cheesesteak until now, this place made it happen.
jordan wenner
The atmosphere is awesome very laid back and relaxing, the food was amazing cant wait to go back and try more of what they have to offer.
Kirstin Kann
We stopped today after taking our son to CHOP today and OH MY GOSH. This was one of the best sandwiches I have had. My husband was in heaven and he’s eaten a lot of cheesesteaks in his life. Make the drive to this place you won’t be disappointed.
Tamara Moody
My first cheesesteak but it was delicious! Loved the homemade cheese whiz sauce. We ordered ahead and it was ready just in time! We also got the regular fries which were expensive but worth it. Definitely recommend.
Alex Holladay
Perfection. Even for delivery. Which was crazy fast.
Great sauces with great hand cut fries. Cajun we’re insane.
The Philly was unreal. Simple and perfect. My wife is GF and loved hers. First Philly she’s enjoyed in a while.
The pear salad should be on your hit list, so balanced. Kale Caesar was just okay.
Can’t wait to come back.
Kirsten Downing
Heads up, if it's your first time ordering, you have to scan to QR code to see menu.
The cheesesteak was really good. I highly recommend trying it! The fries were good, but a little crispy for my taste.
Adam C
The cheesesteak here blew away the provolone ones I had at Pat’s and Ishkabibble’s. The freshly made truffle cheese sauce makes it special but I feel like the steak and bread were better too.
It is a little hot dining in in summer but still totally, totally worth it.
S Kauf
I absolutely adore Woodrow’s. Some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in life. I always take out of town friends here for cheesesteaks. Woodrow’s is my absolute favorite cheesesteak in Philly, no one even comes close (truffle whiz is everything, but also shouts out to soft bread and tender juicy steak).
However, I decided to branch out and try The Italian today. 10/10 would recommend - it’s a delicious Italian sub. The sharp flavors mend so well together. The sandwich makers at Woodrow’s clearly know exactly what they’re doing, piecing together profound flavor combinations. I trust them. You can’t go wrong with any menu item. Seriously.
That said, it would be so difficult for me to order The amazing Italian again simply because the cheesesteak is that. damn. good.
Natalia
The perfect meat:bread:cheese ratio. Truffled cheese wiz that’s home-made (not out of a can). 10/10 experience, would come back. It’s not too big nor too indulgent. Cajun fries were delicious.
Francine Boines
Stopped by a week ago & it was worth the trip from Maryland. We ordered the Whiz Wit Cheesesteaks, the Cubano and cajun fries. This establishment understands the assignment! The meat is tender, as is the bread & the cherry pepper sauce is tantalizing if you like subtle heat. Excellent sandwiches. The staff is kind, courteous & professional and the place had nonstop traffic to the point where they ran out of Cheesesteaks at about 12:30 in the afternoon. The owner had to place a sign on the window. I was thankful I had already ordered my 5 sandwiches.
We shall return.
Allen Hou
Was able to order online, had to wait on the sidewalk (not letting anyone inside the premises) for about 15 minutes and my food was ready. Cheese steak with the truffle whiz is really next level. Subtle truffle to it. Meat stands out, juicy and pretty finely chopped. Bread is fresh and has a nice fluff and snap to it. The roast pork was a little too salty, and the aged provolone, very garlicky aioli, and spice of the raab really made this sandwich explode with flavor. A little overwhelming but still tasty and unique.
Ryan Wynne
Best cheesesteak I’ve ever had. Got the original Woody cheesesteak, the truffle cheese wiz is incredible, paired nicely with their cherry pepper Mayo. Lot of meat, crunchy bread. Sandwich is unbeatable.
JaclynLucia DeLuca
Hands down one of the best sandwich shops in philly... I normally go to johns roast pork, but they are closed on Sundays. So we tried this place and I'm so happy we did, its becoming my favorite.
We got cheesesteaks and coffee BBQ brisket sandwichs and both were top tier 👌::chefs kiss:: 🤌
Barbara Singer
A friend and I drove to Philly to visit an art gallery. We wanted to get a Philly Cheese Steak Sub for lunch. We went to Woodrow's and saw everyone eating them and knew it was going to be good. It sure was. I highly recommend Woodrow's.
A Armstrong
I came here while visiting Philly this past weekend, this is hands-down the best cheese steak I've ever eaten, with homemade truffle whiz & hand cut French fries. I am currently back at home in Baltimore thinking of driving up to Philadelphia this weekend to have another, it was absolutely that good!!!!!!!!!!!
stephanie bunn
Amazing! No photos, because I was so consumed by my sandwiches. Split a cheesesteak and Italian hoagie. Both were wildly good. Dropped off a cheesesteak to my dad: “Couldn’t wait for kickoff. That steak is slamming. Love the onions with the truffle whiz. Eating like I’ve been starving for a month.”
Kodi R
The po boy had So much flavor I had to zoom in to show what I mean. Really really good good
Amy Brush
We had the Cuban (very tender), cheesestea (you could tell they use fresh steak not frozen- and great cheese whiz sauce), Italian (not the usual Italian i am used to but very good,). Meatball (classic meatball)and falafel (sauce was perfect, crisp falafel) All were great and would recommend. Fries were homemade and tasty. We got to go and walked to a nearby park to eat.
Daniel Pino

Food
*Woodrow’s Wiz Wit Cheesesteak (shaved ribeye, truffle wiz, cherry pepper Mayo, caramelized onions) - above average; meat was nicely seasoned; wasn’t a fan of the wiz; bread was OK
EliWild1
Best philly in Philly! Seriously the Philly cheese steakes with their housemade fries were so comforting after a cold walk to the store. Likewise my uncle and cousin came and got some too plus the cane sugar rootbeers are delicious
Keith Adams
Busy Saturday on South Street in Philly. Woodrow's was packed but the order/pickup time in the store was reasonable. Steak with wiz sandwich was very filling and tasty.
NH Measures
This was the best cheese steak hoogie I've ever had!!!
E Shirls
4.5 very fast and delicious. I'm not a big Cheesestake guy, but it really was great. would absolutely go back and recommend to anyone.
Gordon Shaffer
We were introduced to the next BEST cheese steak in Philly today. The bread was freshly made w a shmeer of cherry-pepper mayo surrounding a hefty amount of shaved ribeye embedded w caramelized onions and topped w an unique housemade Truffle Wiz made of American, provelone and truffle oil. Oh, this was so good! Even when the wiz was sparse the meat held your taste buds in check. So, be sure to get a side of wiz. You might want to dip some of their delicious homemade fries in it as well. Take out is the only game in town during Covid.
Sofia
Honestly the roast pork sandwich is beyond amazing.
What didn’t live up to the hype is the cheesesteak.
50 minute wait for food was very long as well.
S. B.
I enjoyed huge Philly cheese steak sandwiches!!
Matthew Stichter
Always wanted to try their wiz sauce and today was the day. I ordered just a plain cheese steak no onions or mayo. I unfortunately did not like their wiz sauce but I did enjoy their meat and bread. They are also a few dollars more expensive than most of the big name places.
Misael Abreu
Road tripped to Philly for the day and tried a few popular spots - by far, this was the most delicious cheesesteak I had. It’s a truffle cheese if I’m not mistaken, and a perfect balance with the steak and chopped onions. Service was also super fast. Highly recommend!
Deepak Prabhakar
06/30/18 Very solid lunch at Woodrow’s today. The three of us got the wiz wit, coffee brisket and honey chicken sandwiches (all on long rolls at request) cut into thirds along with a side of Cajun fries.
My only tiny complaint is the amount of Cajun season on the fries, I would have preferred more. However, the sandwiches were tasty and well architected. The wiz wit had the edge over the other two but we were split on the brisket/chicken for a close second place.
Christie Keith
This sandwich shop is small but mighty! Tucked in between some mainstays on south street this gem. Great Sandwiches made Great. The cheesesteak here should be on every philadelphias to do list.
Neisha Johnson
This is literally the best Philly I've ever had. I visited a few years ago and had one from a different shop, somewhere in the downtown area. I don't even remember the name because it wasn't memorable. It tasted like any old sub I could get from a corner carryout in DC. I didn't understand the hype.
This time around, my boyfriend had watched a YouTube foodie show where a guy sampled 16 cheeseteaks in 12 hours. Woodrow's was in his top 3. We decided to visit a few different Philly places too. Not 16 though.
We went to Woodrow's first. When we visited, the cashier asked if we wanted their special cheese as a dip for the fries. We weren't sure, so he gave us a sample. Heaven! He said they let him give a small sample because no one had ever said no after tasting. I can understand why! We split the sub and fries, which was just the right amount of food. But we liked the cheese so much we considered ordering one to go.
We went walking and ended up at Jim's Steaks. The line was out the door so we assumed it must be great. It was underwhelming. To me, the flavor was almost sweet because there were so many onions, but my boyfriend liked it. Not as much as Woodrow's though.
After that we decided to give up on our comparison test. After you've had Woodrow's higher quality, it's hard to go anywhere else.
Erdem Kent
Solid Philly Cheese Steak and fat fries!
Vincent Watson
Solid choice for a great cheesesteak in Philadelphia.
Incredible taste, great friendly service, very clean place.
Parking lacking, so Uber or walk here.
Joseph Song
The cheesesteak is the best one in philly. Hands down. The ribeye meat, the translucent onions, the cherry pepper mayo, the truffle cheese mix... All of it. Perfection. Add a little ketchup or hot sauce ot cut through? Even better.
The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo was great too. All in all, an amazing sandwich shop.
Kelli Huser
We ordered Philly cheese steaks, and they were delicious, as advertised. The cheese sauce is the star of the show, and the meat is chopped very fine. I do wish they would offer just cups of water instead of $3 glass bottles of water, but also understand why they only offer this for the sake of simplicity. The QR ordering was slick, but the experience was impersonal (which might be a perk for some). It was also very warm inside, which was understandable given the heat wave, but also unpleasant for eating. We ended up taking our order to go.
Karen Adams
Order and pay right from your table!! All the menus items are delicious! The service is fast and friendly! I highly recommend this perfect location!
Joel Tomlinson
The food was great. There was very little interaction between staff and customer. You order through the QR code on the table and the person brings you your food. That's the only interaction. Prices were not too bad. The ginger soda was very strong. All in all, the food was delicious. I would get take out from this place.
Cara Norris
Great cheese steak with house made "wiz" , perfect bread crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. It's the best one we've had this week!!
Pat Carney
I just finished a Steak Frite Sandwich
And boy oh boy was it AMAZING!!
I have honestly never eaten anything this AWESOME. The chef didn't simply make me a sandwich, he built me a thing of beauty!! The more I ate it, the sadder I got. Thinking that it was going to be gone soon.
Can't wait to try some of the other creations on the menu.
Wade Cupkie
Best wiz I’ve had yet! Bread, meat cuts, onions all done up perfectly and fast! Easy-ordering terminal was in fact easy and the folks behind the counter were stoked I was there. It’ll be the best decision you make all day, just stop in. 🤘🏻 …
Dennis Garrett
A fresh take on cheesesteaks with very high quality ingredients including top line ribeye and a superb sub roll. A truffle Whiz made inhouse. Order online for pickup or delivery. No inside dining at the moment. A must visit in Philadelphia.
James Gentile
Good sandwich shop on south street. Sandwiches run around $10 a piece. Fries and sides, and drinks like soda or ice tea.
Joe Dare
Saw this place on drive in, dine in and dives… WOW! Their own cheese sauce on their cheesesteak was amazing. Every bite was amazing. Nice and friendly staff. Would go back again
Jaime Gabel
The only cheesesteak I had while in Philly, but I was happy with going here. Food was great (portions are quite big!), the cheese used is real stuff and not from a jar. The spicy mayo has a nice little kick to it. Fries are hand cut and very good.
Yuri Kopin
I’m from Detroit. I ate 5 different cheesesteaks during my visit for the Grateful Dead show 7/10. This literally blew my mind 10/10. I want one now as I write this. Only gripe, should have a server or someone directing the ordering and eating process.
Eric G
Had the Woodrow’s Whiz Wit: 5/5 sandwich. I am liking it better than the famous ones near the street basketball court.
The Woodrow’s Pork is also very good.
Charles McCain
This Philly cheese steaks were really good. What would make them amazing is green bell pepper. Service and atmosphere was pretty decent.
Mike
My favorite sandwhich shop in the city. The snobby cheesesteak is excellent and doesn't leave you with the same regrets as other options in the city. I also tried their cuban option which is solid.
Anthony P
Mahi-mahi sandwich on that soft bun was fantastic. Nice lil kick to it, wish there was more of the sweetness from the mango purée. If you take away, get the sauce in the side or eat within wrapper. I’ll definitely be back to try more!
Only gripe is the $2 for a 75 cent bag of chips, bananalands!
Christine Mamuad
I don't know if my expectations were too high, but I was excited to go on a Philly cheesesteak tour on my first visit to the city. I did a ton of research and landed on Woodrow's as one of the top picks, with their truffle whiz cheesesteak in many people's favorites lists. All I can say about it is it was just... OK. Flavors were just OK. Bread was good. Truffle whiz was fine. Beef was on the blander side. All told, none of it was anything to write home about. Still on this tour, determined to find a delicious, legit Philly cheesesteak.
ChiPhi603
Very good but different from the usual. Quality steak with seasoned cheesy sauce. Very tasty but a bit different than onions and peppers in the bun.
Amanda Chiu
Everything tastes so good here! They were very conscious of how everything was made, which I really appreciated since I have a lot of allergies. Really liked that the staff had the patience to answer our questions. I had a very flavorful Cobb salad without the stuff I'm allergic to.
WilsonxDoom
To be honest I think Woodrow's has the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia. You can't find anything better in my own opinion. they make their cheese wiz homemade with American, Muenster, and provolone cheese plus they add trifle oil to the cheese! On top of that their steak is to die for! It's worth every bite!.
Nikia Toomey
Fantastic Philly cheesesteak. Not a fan of wiz generally but this was great. This will be my go to cheesesteak joint
Andrew Athias
This is the best cheese steak in Philly simply because of the black truffle they add to the cheese.
Grant Slezak
excellent, best cheesesteak in philly and its not even close really
Brittany
I really appreciate it when sandwich shops have lots of options for vegetarians because so many places tend to ignore dietary restrictions. Woodrow's menu is really thoughtful, flavorful and offers (enough) veggie and fish options to satisfy my taste. I got the eggplant, tomato and mozzarella and it was awesome! My boyfriend got a cheesesteak with truffle whizz and said the truffle oil added a uniqueness (in a good way!) and unlike other steak places in town. We will definitely be coming here again to explore other things on the menu.
Hyunsun C
If you're interested to try out something different than geno or pat's cheese steak then you can try this place. Cheese has different flavors and overall the sandwich was kind of oily...
Chris Boring
Cheesesteak was amazing, but Cubano was a bit dry. Better than Pat's and Geno's for the Cheese steak.
K Y
Sandwich is on the smaller side. Truffle cheese is a nice subtle touch but the overall taste is kinda bland.
Michael Victoria
Have tried alot of cheesesteaks in philly and this is definitely one of the better....stopped in early on a Saturday and tries their "breakfast philly".
It's a wiz wit plus an onion and chive omelet with a tangy sauce...wasnt sure about it either...but it turned out amazing...would recommend to anyone. And they are right on south st.
Monique Beatty
So good!! Got the Woodrow’s Whiz Wit. Great sandwich. The truffle whiz is fantastic on their fries, too.
Sophie Crochet
Delicious and original sandwiches ! I had the eggplant and my significant other had the cheesesteak — both of us were totally satisfied. The cheesesteak has truffle whiz and the bread is just the right crunchy & soft on the inside. Pretty great cheesesteak.
Muath Kawther
Best cheesesteak sandwich in Philadelphia so far 🤤🤤👌🏻
Drew B
This place was off the chain! We were coming back from jersey and decide to stop here. Best decision we made that day. The sandwiches were hot, delicious, and fresh. I will definitely make a trip down here again for some dope food!
Megan P
Wow. Best cheesesteak I've had in years. The meat is fresh and seasoned well. The bread-to-meat ratio is perfect. And the homemade wiz makes it all come together beautifully.
Douglas DeRienze
Had a Philly Cheese steak which had a freshly made cheese sauce. My daughter had a meatball sub and they cooked up the meatballs fresh. Satisfying food of good quality with great prep for a sandwich shop.
John Mandolini
My favorite Philly cheesesteak! If you only have three or four ingredients everything better be good and Woodrow's nails every single thing ! The truffle wiz is UNREAL. The meat has so much flavor and the bread is amazing. You will not be disappointed
Brent Mamba
Whew this philly cheesesteak was the most flavorful I've had yet. The madr from scratch whiz was earthy or smokey to the taste. The onions were perfectly chopped and mixed with the meat. It may be a smaller portion that the average establishment here but it still leaves you full. Definitely recommend.
Jaleel Mcfadden
Great job, best sandwich and fries I e had in a long time. I think the rolls were Sarcones. I got the shrimp Po boy. The shrimp weren't fried so all the shrimp flavor came through. Crisp lettuce and the spread was incredible. Great service too!
Heather Diamond
Amazing!! Stopped to get a Philly in Philly..it did not disappoint!
Cait Mae
My boyfriend and I are in Philly for the day and wanted to find him the perfect cheese steak. The first place we went to was awful, and I convinced him to just throw it out and find a better place. Woodrow's makes their own cheese and it was soooo good! I was going to go somewhere else to eat (I'm vegetarian) but they also had veggie options. I got their falafel and beet sandwich and cajun fries. The avocado mayo on it was amaaazing.
This place is really keeping up with the new age. Highly recommend!!
Erika Schaefer
Best twist on a cheese steak I've ever had. The homemade truffle wiz and cherry pepper mayo adds a whole new world of flavor. 😍 Will stop by anytime I'm in town. Wish they were open later. …
Jesse Passman
Excellent cheesesteak. The whiz + truffle combination is unexpected but incredible.
Scott Farmer
I went there because it was my first time ever in Philadelphia and they said that Woodrow's had the best Philly Cheese steak sandwich in the city. The sandwich was good, but I don't know about best in the city.
Chad Camp
Absolutely phenomenal sandwich. So much so that it negates the annoying and cold ordering process. Steak to cheese ratio is on point. The addition of the truffle (which going by the price is likely truffle oil extract aka not real truffles) really does add an umami kick that makes you not care it’s a fake truffle oil chemistry project.
Please give it a try and add the cherry peppers.
Sherri Fulmer
The best cheesesteak of my life. The bread had a little crisp, cherry pepper mayo was amazing, the homemade wiz tied everything together. Topped it with some onions and it was slammin!
Barış Can Bahtiyarogulları
Steak is good. If you can sit outdoor its cool otherwise take out is better. Inside needs to ventilate.
I gave 4 star because Straws were dusty :)
Megan Sellinger
Awesome take on Philly cheesesteak. I'm not usually a fan of cheesesteak but watched a video featuring a bunch of different sandwich shops and Woodrow's was on it as an upscale version of the classic so we went to try it out. DANG. It was so good! It was huge though, we split it.
Jason Hatter
This is the place to go for a cheesesteak, period. But all the sandwiches were great. The meatball is full of fresh basil.
Gabriel Estrada
Don't know much about cheese steaks. But this changed my life. Perfect hoagie, great steak. And the truffle wiz blew our minds.
ashley hobbs
First time in Philly this taste very yummy just right and tasty.
Kyle McClure
First cheesesteak I had in Philly .. and it did not disappoint.. very good
Yvonne Harris
The food was good especially the whiz cheesesteak was amazing and I don’t eat them at all but the portion size for the price could be better
JR Tyner
I'm amazed by this Truffle Cheese Wiz! I ordered the Woodrow's Cheesesteak Wit and fries with a side of wiz to dip the fries in! I highly recommend trying this unique Wiz!
N Carter
The shrimp po boy is delicious and it wasn't long after ordering before I got my food during the lunch rush!!
****Don't forget to get the truffle cheese !!!!
Howard Malitz
The cheesesteak was delicious. Served very quickly. Would return next time we are in Philadelphia
Logan E
Best cheese steak I've ever had. Very good and I recommend you come here!
Gregory Brown
I enjoyed the Philly cheese steak from this place. It was nice. The bread was great. The fries were good.
Krystle Krystle
Went here after trying another "famous spot" while vacationing in Philly for Christmas. To be honest I wasn't looking forward to trying it because the first place didn't impress me at all! But Woodrow's have the best cheesesteak in Philly! Yes I said it! My friend and I dined in and the cheesesteak was flavorful, the truffle whiz was oh so good! We also ordered the Cajun fries which paired perfectly with the cheesesteak. When I visit Philly again I'll be stopping here first!
Josh Robison
Best cheese steak we had while visiting Philly! We avoided the main tourist places and asked local Lyft drivers where we should go. They led us to one place we really liked but surprisingly Woodrow's was not one of them! We happened to be on our way to another destination and dropped in. The misses and I both loved our food, the truffle whiz they make in house is very, very good!
Brody Clemmer
Woodrow’s has won every single Cheesesteak off that I’ve ever hosted with friends from out of town. It’s our go-to. The truffle is amazing. The 4 is for a really awful GF roll. Not saying it’s easy to find, but they could definitely find a better GF roll.
Rachel Haynie
Hands down best Cheesesteak in Philly! The meat was seasoned perfectly and the bread was just the right thickness. Perfection
Greg Kaczmarczyk
Really good cheese steak. The cherry pepper mayo is great
Ken Miyakawa
Is not a big place but is comfortable as long is not to many people I try the cheese steak truffle which is a must try here in Philadelphia and it was delicious I definitely recommend it! While I was there realized many locals just ordered to go the fried potatoes was good too with the cheese sauce.
Shuang Zheng
We ordered brisket, Cuban and grilled cheese, all were amazingly flavorful, tender and well balanced! Best hot sandwiches we have tried! Thank you
Kyle Acker
Best cheesesteak ever! Easy to walk past and miss but definitely more than worth it once we got in there. Top to bottom great sandwiches and was thoroughly impressed. Will be back.
Joaquin Breedlove
I’m not a big reviewer, I’m more here to just read others opinions. But after having the cheesesteak tonight I had to post something.
This is the best cheesesteak I have had in a LONG TIME. The cheese sauce that they use compliments the steak perfectly and the roll is delicious.
Woodrow’s is firmly in my top 3 now.
Tanisha Rosa
First Philly Cheesesteak in Philly! Amazing, tried a few other places but the taste and juiciness of this sandwich could not be beat.
Also it’s quite large…
that’s what she said
Ben Wilcox
Since I had my first Woodrow's Italian sandwich nearly a week ago, not a day has passed where I have not thought about this sandwich. Upon first bite I knew it was special, but by the end of my meal I was certain this was in the top 5 sandwiches I have ever eaten.
R.C. S.
I'm going to start with the good.
The steak was delicious. No grizzle or toughness to it. Flavorful and cooked perfectly.
The bread was also delicious. Tasted very fresh and perfectly soft yet sturdy. Held up on my 30 min walk back to my hotel.
Now for what I personally didn't like:
The truffle cheese wiz. I was so excited to try home-made truffle cheese wiz. However I did not enjoy it.
I've had truffle before but it was a much more subtle component to the dish. I took a few bites and immediately regretted getting the wiz. I would have absolutely loved this sandwich if it weren't for the wiz. I ended up tossing the rest of the sandwich as I just didn't enjoy it.
A lot of people seem to like these sandwiches as-is, but unless you typically enjoy very in-your-face truffle aromas and flavors, I would reccomend asking for the truffle wiz on the side instead of on the sandwich. You can always pour it on if you like it!
Jackson Pohl
Very expensive for what I got, a little cramped but the food was very good.
William N
Was driving back to Boston from Lancaster and felt like making a detour to get a Cheese Steak. Attempted to go to another location that was temporarily closed so decided to give Woodrow’s a try, having read and heard about it. Parking on street at the time was very easy! I did a take out menu, all QR code and online ordering no cash. Went with the Woodrow whiz wit, Cajun fries, and mango lemonade. The sandwhich was amazing, usually I am not a whiz fan but theirs was much better than the traditional from a can and had the nice truffle twist! Fries were larger but had a nice crisp that is usually not associated with the style, Cajun has a lot of flavor and tingled a bit longer than I anticipated! Amazing food! My only reason for the 4 star is I feel their ordering is a little annoying for example I ordered my food then realized I wanted a drink so instead of being able to ask for add on I had to submit a whole order for 1 drink. Also wish I could have customized their sandwhiches with my own add ons. Overall I felt the ordering and pick up lacked the interpersonal touch of a small business sub shop I love. Other than that food was amazing, actually exceeded expectations and was easy in and out and convenient location! I will be stopping in again on my next trip through philly!
Vish Bhagwandas
After spending a weekend trying Cheesesteaks, hands down, this is the best Philly Cheesesteak, or at least my favorite! You won't be disappointed
Kevin Julia
My favorite Cheesesteak spot in all of Philly. Cheesesteak with onions and their homemade wiz. You cannot go wrong. I will return and return and return.
Will Prosper
Come with an empty belly, enjoy one of many perfect sandwiches, then immediately find a comfy place to nap.
Dave B
Tasty Philly Cheesesteak.
If you are in Philly, good place to do lunch
Jonathan Rodriguez
Sooo goood. First time trying a cheesesteak and I absolutely loved it!
Miguel Trejo
One of the best cheesesteak! Cheese with truffle is amazing!
CJ Prudhom
Home made Truffle cheese whiz. What more can I say. Amazing Cheesesteak, amped up a notch or two!
Linda Hrushanyk
I had a very cheesy cheesesteak and my daughter had the turkey sandwich. Both were very good.
ryan Spayde
Look at all the rankings you want to but this was easily the most unique cheesesteak I have ever had. Great flavor and a great take on a classic sandwich.
Naomi Lopes
Love their cheesesteak here with truffle - definitely the best we’ve tasted in Philly!
Jan Klincewicz
Efficient offering, friendly and efficient staff.. There is indoor seating for perhaps two dozen. Food was interesting and well prepared with quality, fresh ingredients. I found the truffle flavor overwhelming in their homemade Whiz for the cheeseteak... I should have kept it simple. Fries are to die for.. hand cut Idaho russets fluffy inside and crusty brown outside. Similar to the fries of my youth in Montreal. They are criminally omitting poutine from the menu. I'm sure it would be the best in the U. S. I'll go back and try the pork next..
Catherine S
Dooooo it. Whiz Wit $12 with their homemade truffle whiz. Amazing. Made fresh to order, very generous amount of steak and deliciousness in your mouth.
patricia h
Maybe I just don’t appreciate Philly cheesesteaks. Fries were good
Ish Godbole
I don't like giving 5 stars because I feel like nothing's perfect but I can't fathom giving this place anything lower. A fantastic, cozy atmosphere, a great COVID sensitive ordering setup, and an amazing, just awesome cheesesteak that so unique but sooooo good. Fantastic place, go here over Pat's or Geno's any day. This is great. Keep up the phenomenal work.
Ericka Swanger
If you’re looking for something different, this is the place. We knew going in that it was going to be different than a typical cheesesteak, but we underestimated it still. If you’re wanting to fill a cheesesteak craving, I would choose a different place. However, if you want to try something unique, this is your place. With that being said, the sandwich was still good, just not what you’d think of when you think of a typical cheesesteak. Aside from that, the Cajun fries had a good little kick, and the mandarin Maine root soda was very good.
David Y.
Great food friendly place
Jordan H
Not sure how the other sandwiches are but I was really not a fan of the cheesesteak. I'm giving them 3 stars cause the bread was good. The problem is with their homemade wiz. It has such a strong flavor and they put a lot of it on. So it is the only thing that you taste. If you think really hard and get a bite with minimal wiz, the steak tastes like it could be good. I could only eat like a third of it cause it just grossed me out and then I got some tacos after since I was still hungry lol.
Austin Boley
One of the best cheesesteaks in Philly. Homemade wiz is extremely good and the smell is incredible. Steak is seasoned well and plenty of cheese. The real winner is the roll. It’s super crunchy on the outside, but super soft on the inside. Must try spot on South Street
Emily N
My favorite cheesesteak in Philly! The truffle cheese is delicious and it's convenient on south street
David Sears
This is our first visit to Woodrow's since prior to this Covid-19 pandemic, & then it was myself & my family's go-to cheesesteak restaurant in Philadelphia, however today's visit was not very good, & was unfortunately pretty disappointing! I would recommend a trip 'round the corner to Geno's steak, which are consistently awesome cheesesteaks!!!
Tyler Dalton
We stumbled on this place when our original cheesesteak destination was closed down. But Woodrow's certainly did not disappoint. We ordered online for pickup and the process was quick and seamless. We got a cheesesteak wit whiz + fries. I did not plan on getting whiz but since they make it fresh daily in house, figured we would give it a try. Overall it was an excellent pick and a great find. Very satisfied with the flavor, portions and service. would recommend Woodrows.
Tim King
Got a turkey sub and it was really fresh with actual good quality deli turkey breast, not the wet thin stuff you get at fast food places. Very satisfying and easy, food was ready for pickup within minutes.
Kaitlin Mooney
You haven’t had a cheesesteak until you’ve had a Whiz Whit from Woodrow’s. Hands down the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had! Food was delicious and great quality. Employees were friendly and attentive.
Rudy Valadez
Cheese steaks are awesome, the "Tomato Mozz" was a hit! Very flavorful! Selection of sodas is great as well.
Dani Rubinstein
So good! Juicy and flavorful. Maybe because we were hungry but all 4 of us loved the cheesesteaks despite some skepticism and definitely gonna come back. With onions, cheese and their pepper mayo
David Weintraub
If they took away the insane level of truffle it would be better. It's overwhelming. My guess is the product is good otherwise, but I'd probably never go back for another just based on that specific cheese flavor. It's similar to Spot Burger on Girard, but Spot Burger is far better.
Arianna Conover
This place is comfy. The house pork sandwich is delicious and so juicy it'd be a sin not to put the hand cut fries underneath to soak it up. The food came up fast. The specials board made me want to spend my entire day eating sandwiches. Plus you've got the care factor of the owner working his own register and being more than willing to talk to you about how this place is his baby.
Definitely my new favorite sandwich joint.
Mac Diddy
Simply one of the best cheesesteaks out there, if you’re visiting philly then please ignore Pat’s and Geno’s, go to Woodrow’s instead.
Potatolle POTATO
Excellent sandwiches! I had the delicious brisket sandwich with BBQ sauce, crispy matchstick potatoes and caramelized onions. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork w broccoli rabe.
Billy Mourmouris
One of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had in Philly. Homemade wiz! Nuff said
Fawn Lisette
Sandwiches are amazing! I love the Truffle Cheese on the Cheesesteaks. The sandwiches are huge!! (You could probably split one between 2 people easily! Everything I have tried here is top notch. I haven't tried everything yet but I haven't heard any complaints either.
Sean McGowan
Their truffle whiz whit is most likely the actual best cheesesteak in Philly.
Eric K Breiner
Have stopped here probably 3 or 4 times over the years before writing my review, and honestly it's been great every time. Tons of flavor in their sandwiches and a great meatball parm. The breads are always soft, too. Nice little seating area too, but wish there was more room. When I bring people here we usually end up just getting it to-go, because the seats are usually filled during and around peak hours. Great shredded pork sandwich too!
Dominic Hays (YouTuber)
I rarely even give reviews, but this was amazing. Probably the best cheese steak I've ever had. The wiz is insane, the bread is good quality and the meat is tender and well seasoned. Also, the fries are good too.
Brian Williams
Legit Cheesesteak! Truffle whiz is so good!
Russ Debuys
We went to Woodrow's sandwich shop yesterday with our dear friend Jim. It was the BEST sandwich shop we have ever gone to!! My husband and Jim had the meatball sandwiches which they said were excellent!! I had the grilled cheese which was amazing!! The bread alone was so good and the cheeses were were so good as well. We can't wait to go back again. Also their fries were out of this world and they have a dip which is amazing!! We would highly recommend
that if your in Philly on South and 6th St.that you give yourself a treat and go to Woodrow's Sandwich Shop. You will not be disappointed!
Jack Smith
Hands down best sandwiches on south street. I've had the Italian pork sandwich with long hot aoli, aged provolone and broccoli rabe. I've had the meatball parm, all 3 salads, the fries today. I'm looking forward to trying the coffee brisket and Cajun Mahi Mahi. Really these guys are fast, professional and kind. Go support them in these hard times they are worth it.
Erik Tribelhorn
Awesome place! Easy ordering via touch screen. Gluten free options
Katie Hagan
Homemade cheese whiz infused with truffles for their cheesesteak = deliciousness!!! It was so good it now holds a spot in top three cheesesteak's in Philly. The Cajun fries were delicious too.
Nero T
A low key sandwich shop offering an amazing spin on the Philly cheesecake.
Christopher VanDerwerker
An absolutely KILLER cheesesteak!! The truffle whiz is phenomenal, and the cherry pepper mayo is just fantastic!
I will 100% come back to Philly simply for this cheesesteak, no doubt about it
Sherri Devine
Best Philly Cheesesteak, hands down!
Fries were the bomb too!
Geno Villafano
Super accommodating staff, quick service even when busy and a decadently delicious modern twist on classic sandwiches. Opinion: perfect bread to meat to cheese ratio, with a really nicely buttered and seasoned bread with incredibly flavorful meat that doesn't depend on the cheese to taste fantastic.
Scott Patterson
A place that makes its own cheese wiz! Once I heard that I had to make it down to south street and give it a try. Reality is often disappointing, but not when it comes this place. This ranks at the top of my personal cheese steak list give how well seasoned the meat is combined with that incredible home made cheese sauce that tastes authentic and not like the usual radioactive goop. I am afraid I'll never try anything else cause the cheese steak is so perfect.
Sarah Whitman
This place was delicious. The French fries were the best I've had in my life, my brother loved his hot pork and broccoli rabe sandwich, and my mixed greens salad was fabulous. Ordering was simple and service was great. Highly recommend!
That Guy
Ummmm, shaved ribeye, truffle whiz, cherry pepper mayo, caramelized onions....??1!! Impossible to be bad imo.
Vince Denictolis
I've owned a subshop in Boston for 20 plus years and the bread can make or break a sandwich unfortunately the bread broke this sandwich one and done for me
Crystal Boykin
First time in Philly. Saw Woodrows on you tube and decided to try the cheesesteak with the housemade wiz and extra onions. It was delicious along with the fries. In comparison to another place I tried, Woodrows was the tastiest for sure.
Erik L
One of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. Could be a little larger though considering the price, or maybe they could throw a bag of chips in there at least.
Ian Morris
Fantastic! Highly recommend. Owner is friendly.
Tabitha Bowers
They had the best philly cheese steak hands down. I tried 3 places in 1 stop. They had a great environment. Effective and useful online ordering. Staff was polite and friendly. Loved the feel of the place. Loved the food. Would willingly drive from maryland to Philly to get another.
Eric Connelly
Amazing. Juicy steak, chewy bread. A combination of normal fries and crispy ends.
Jackie Biehl
We were directed to Woodrow's by a local and we cannot thank them enough. Great cheesesteak and falafel sandwich for the veggie hubs. Wonderful flavors, efficient staff, easy, tablet ordering and fair prices. 5 stars all around. Cheesesteak "traditionalists" need to swallow their pride and admit that their lightly truffled whiz and cherry pepper mayo are improvements on the original. I'd pick this sandwich over Pat's or Nemo's 100% of the time, glad they haven't blown up yet because it really wasn't busy - Best kept secret in Philadelphia!
Marty Myers
Small shop. Friendly service. Amazing food. They take cash and credit. Picture is the amazing Cubano
Ebssa Muktar
We had Philly cheese steak, service was great the food was great overall good experience.
Denise Damora
I have Woodrow’s cater our lunches for special events at work. The food is really delicious. All our staff rave about the sandwiches and salads. We are foodies so tough to please our firm. Our staff looks forward to events when we have Woodrow’s cater them. High quality creative menu. The very best sandwich place in Philadelphia!
Tyler Cannon
I do declare it is the #1 cheesesteak in philly.
Jeremy Andrade
Excellent shop! I’m very pretentious about my cheesesteaks and Italian pulled pork and although the cheesesteak isn’t exactly the classic recipe since their HOMEMADE wiz has truffle in it. It definitely is an exceptional deviation that I will be returning to whenever in the area. The Italian pulled pork was also very good, surpassed my expectations. Although the sandwiches are a little pricey in comparison to others in the city (~12), they make up for it in flavor. P.s. the touch screen ordering for credit cards is very convenient like wawa
The UPS Store on S 4th Street
I've been to Woodrow's two times now, and bought lunch for my team here at The UPS Store too, so I have a pretty good idea about what they can do.
Each time, everything has been delicious.
First I got the Pork. It was the best Pork Sandwich I have ever had.
Today was the Mahi. Fantastic.
Don't forget the fries, and use the vinegar.
Sandwich shop ain't the right description.
His food is great, and the tunes always rock.
A solid addition to the neighborhood.
Go enjoy!
Noel Brinkley
Everything I had hoped for! Their cheesesteak is slightly different and that's what I wanted. The roll was perfect. A little crisp on the outside. The truffle whiz.....OMG! I was here 3 days ago and had the Cubano sandwich which was also amazing. Now I have 3 steak places downtown I can put in rotation and Woodrow's is one of them.
marcus a
Italian sub was on point, cheese steak had their own twist to it but it was great also. Location is close enough to the touristy spots, but far enough for a comfortable outing. Recommend trying.
James Hurst
It was good, I didn't think anything special. Kinda pricey and "trendy" I thought. Out of all the cheesesteaks in Phila, it wasn't in my top but my friend really liked it. For the price, there are many other places that do a better cheesesteak.
Ebenezer Edwards
Tried 3 different cheesesteaks shops while in Philly and this one was best. The fries were also incredible, quality food all around. Unlike other places they don't use the typical wiz cheese instead they use american (as far as I can tell that was the only cheese used). Helpful and friendly staff, will definitely be returning next time I'm in Philly.
Booda McKenzo
Their Wiz Wit cheesesteak is on another level & the coffee bbq brisket sammich is beyond amazing. If you're tired of generic pizza parlor sandwiches, their food is worth an extra effort to obtain. I drive from the far Northeast and it's worth every mile traveled
Lamar Thomas
This spot is delicious ..im basically an hour away.i have been to a few cheesesteak spots and this 1 is by far the better ones .. Only 2 other spots i can say is along their level of quality cheesesteaks ..but Woodrows is 1 og the best ..no doubt. Cheesesteak has its own twist ..the truffle cheese was jus amazing i highly recommend this place
A. Rosa
I walked 13 minutes in the summer Philly heat to try Woodrow's Philly cheesesteak and it was worth every second. It was hard to pick one spot to try the city's most famous sandwich and I put my money on this place. I didn't know what to expect but what Woodrow's lacks in space and seating they make up for in flavor.
The Woodrow's Wiz Wit is phenomenal and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants a flavorful and delicious cheesesteak. The rest of their menu sounded amazing and I wish I had a place like this in my home neighborhood to have the opportunity to try everything from their menu.
I love the quick and effortless tablet that you can order on and the employees were courteous and welcoming the moment we walked in. I haven't tried all the usual cheesesteak suspects but I can and would recommend trying out Woodrow's to anyone in the area!
Anthony Scardillo
We had Whiz Wit and Coffee BBQ brisket. Cheesesteak was excellent. Lots of taste. The carmelized onions in the brisket really stood out. Good service reasonable price.
Lindsay Kline
BEST cheesesteak! Whiz wit with homemade cheese sauce and lots of it. That sandwich is AMAZING! They also have fries and other sandwiches that are pretty good. They accept credit cards and have some indoor seating.
Christopher Tyska
I had friends from out of town ask me to bring them out for a cheesesteak (of course). I had already brought them to places like Pat's, Geno's and Jim's in the past. But I tell you, Woodrow's was a winner! Their cheese sauce is awesome! The entire sandwich is awesome
Matthew Allman
Excellent sandwich shop. They always have special sandwiches they offer for a limited time. The current sausage peppers and onion sandwich is awesome
During the summers they offer a crab roll sandwich
All time of the year they offer a stacked cheesesteak with truffle cheese wiz which is absolutely amazing.
Shaun Baze
Best cheesesteak I've had in Philly!
Des McMahon
Easily one of the best secrets in Philly. Only place I’ve seen who’s doing more than just slapping wiz and steak on a roll. They don’t get enough credit!
Sean Malone
Woodrow's was under the radar for a while, but deserves the attention it gets now. The cheesesteak with the house-made truffle wiz is in the spotlight. Unfortunately, it's inconsistant. It has been the best cheesesteak and then the most mediocre in back-to-back visits. The coffee brisket is legendary (get it instead). The sandwiches are all well worth the slightly higher than average price.
Maddison
THE most amazing cheesesteak I’ve ever had. They have their own homemade wiz sauce made daily which is delicious. And it’s just perfectly seasoned. Customer service is also great!
Bruce Clisby
Sandwich was good, not the cleanest looking place I have ever visited though (mid-day, no crowd, only people in there).
Chris Storey
Cozy little restaurant offering a range of sandwiches. Tried the cheesesteak and the cubano. The cheesesteak was amazing with well spiced meat. The cubano was a little dry with scarce pickles. I will definitely try it again, but would avoid the cubano since there appear to be better options on the menu.
Dave Weisz
I've eaten at just about every sandwich shop in the city and so far this one is my favorite. I got the short rib sandwich and it was amazing. The coffee was an unexpected treat with a bold taste and ice cubes made of coffee to cool it down.
Constance Magnuson
Best Cheesesteak in Philly. Homemade truffle cheese whiz! Need I say more? This is my go-to when we have friends in town or our top suggestion for tourists when they ask where to get a solid cheesesteak
Kevin R
Pretty good sandwiches and fries. I enjoyed it
Chuck Homler (NeedsMoreRitalin)
great food, friendly service. This place is a real treat. The only problem is it's a little bit expensive so it really is a sometimes extravagance rather than an everyday spot for me.
The cheesesteak is great, but I love the brisket sandwich.
LOU
I don’t usually give out reviews but this place deserve the whole 5 stars and some. Best Philly cheesesteak I have had so far from the bread, meat, cheese, onions and bell peppers, everything was spot on. Great job guys 👌🏾 I was actually visiting from NY. …
Rhea Dopmeijer
Philly Cheers Steak is great to start your afternoon with visiting the city
Brandon McArdle
We ordered via caviar. Caviar screwed up terribly and sent someone SO late that I called the restaurant to get an idea for what happened. Even though it wasn’t their fault at all, the man I spoke to offered to remake the entire order so that it wasn’t cold and soggy from sitting waiting for Caviar and send their own person to deliver it personally. I just thought it was worth sharing how wonderful the quality of service here is. Not only is the food SO good, every time, but they really value the experience of their customers.
Maria S
Born and raised Philly girl... top 3 cheesesteaks I’ve ever had. These guys are friendly, clean and food is To die for. Can’t wait to go back! So excited I found this jawn
Raashida Fleetwood
Ive ordered from this place twice. I enjoyed the turkey sandwich with bacon jam and the tomato soup. But the shrimp po boy and handcut fries were so good. Im going to be thinking about that remoulade for a while.
Damian B
Delicious and high quality cheesesteak!
Mason Carter
The best cheesesteaks in Philly by a mile. Every sandwich is its own work of art, but their cheesesteak with truffle wiz is something that I'm proud to direct any visitor to. I would also recommend that you go for their roast pork and coffee brisket sandwiches!
Jeff (Jeff)
Woodrow's is a great addition to the Philly cheesesteak offering. I would however, classify the sandwich with Chipotle mayo and truffle oil as an artisanal sandwich and not a traditional Philly Cheesesteak. In any case, it's definitely worth a try as it's delicious!!
VintageWorksProductions
The Woodrow's wiz wit is absolutely absurd. I want to say favorite cheesesteak in the city or at least top 3 for sure. The cajun fries and a side of truffle wiz is a must as well.
Mike Pras
Inconsistent with their business operating hours. But I'll let ya in on a secret. The best cheesesteak in the city hands down. And I've had many different types of cheesesteak. They made my #1 list.
Bernie Collins
YES please! my #1 cheesesteak spot i loved the fact that they make their own wiz! the combination with the chipotle mayo makes this steak stand out. i will definitely be recommending this place for cheesesteaks
Kevin Wood
When cooked right these are the best cheesesteaks in Philly. The whiz is amazing and goes perfect with the fries.
Katherine Schmidt
Truffle cheese wiz was amazing. High quality cheesesteak and we loved the Cajun fries too.
Carl Holmes
The best cheesesteak I ever had.
Bob S
Good little sandwich shop. I recommend the cobb salad. But the ordering process is dumb. You place your order on a touch screen and after every single item it asks if you'd like to leave a tip. And there's no table service, so what exactly is the tip for?...
The Grinch
Amazing! Best phily I’ve ever had!
mark davis
Sub was great bread and meat. Fries great! Cheese was really gd didn't think I would like but there's isn't out of a can .. Definitely going back.
Janell J.
Whiz Wit Sandwich is legit. I did overhear some of the workers lamenting how their newfound popularity has taken a toll on the shop, but it doesn't seem to have affected the food. Good spot, sorta out of the way, but worth the walk.
Daniel Montenegro
I went to three Philly Cheesesteak restaurants that were highly recommended to me during my time in Philadelphia. Of the three, I would rank Woodrow's as the best Cheesesteaks that I had. I ordered the Woodrow's Wiz Wit which was delicious with their truffle wiz.
Viktor Bek
if you are into exploring local sandwich habits it is an eye opener, menue is as long as possibilities, it took me a while to lusten onto what locals are ordering and making up ny mind, it takes a bit to get ot cooked but that is why it will come on your plate hot of the gridle, not just reheated. after a day on the beach, nice place to stop and grab a bite.
Shon Shirley
First cheesesteak in philly and it was amazing!!
Kali Killmer
Clean, easy to order, fast, and a damn good sandwich. Recommend the brisket one
Linda B
Unbelievably DELISH!! A gourmet version worth every penny!!!
Aletheia
Great (big) sandwiches, good fries, friendly service. The grilled chicken is awesome 👌 I wish I didn't have to create a login to order online... But ordering in the store is very easy …
Justin Barbati
Great food. I will go there again.
Paul Musho
Pretty good cheesesteak. I rate it Par
Kyra Cooper
Out of the 3 places I tried while in Philadelphia, this was the best one! Other places I tried were Jim's & Pat's for reference.
Kyle Rodier
One of the best and very unique cheesesteak. Fries are good too. Be wary of the weird hours they sometimes have
River Hupp
I almost completely missed this place--passed by, and K invited me in with a glance that said "yeah, you wanna eat right here." His eyes did not lie. On special was the Shrimp Po'boy.
If that is on the d'jour menu, you need to order it immediately.
My partner had a cranberry turkey sandwich, which was fuggin' delicious.
Don't let this place be a secret--well, maybe a tiny secret. Tasty: food with TLC.
Mark Simpkins
Excellent food. They have many specialty sandwiches to choose from. Fries are very good as well. I often get them with vinegar to remind me of boardwalk fries.
Matthew Light
Best Philly Cheesesteak around! Great place and friendly staff

I got the cheesesteak. I loved woodrow's special touches to philadelphia favorite sandwich!! Woodrow's DOES make their own Wiz! You can sit on South ST, inside or out back in the court yard.

My honey chicken sandwich tasted like it was fried in nasty old oil. Had to throw it out… but the fries were good

K M
They're pretty quick and very nice workers. Food is delicious. I enjoyed my cheesesteak and fries with whiz on the side.
M E
Delicious Philly cheese and friendly staff.
David Blechman
This is easily top 3 steaks in the city. I know Woodrow is a super nerdy name. Ugh, I know a guy named Woodrow and he's the worst. Ginger. Ew. But even the mental image of a slimy ginger couldn't ruin this steak.
Erin Sheehan
The most amazing Philly cheesesteak! The staff was super friendly and the place was cute. Would definitely come back if I am ever in the city again!
Not Sure
Really friendly staff. The Philly Cheesesteaks were ... sadly unmemorable.
Fortunately, the cheese sammiches were awesome.
Also, really expensive for what is basically Dominic's.
Dylan Wormuth

Woodrow’s is everything you want in your neighborhood sandwich shop. Owner Kevin Kramer opened up shop only a month ago, but he is already serving up some serious quality sandwiches that are as “mind-blowing” as they claim.
Kyle Bailey
Awesome Whiz Wit sandwich. Small place but great vibes and music playing. Fries were fresh cut and excellent.
William Tate
Got the Woodrow's cheesesteak and hand cut fries. Everything had a slightly overwhelming truffle oil flavor, but good other than that.
