The customer service and presentation was lacking. The food was good. Firstly, it seems like they ignore their online ordering service. Order at 2:04pm, by 2:10pm my order still wasn't confirmed. When I went to verify that the order was received, the guy at the counter updated status of the order, and informed me that the cooks already received it. At 2:34pm, when the order still wasn't updated to complete, I went to the guy at the counter to inquire about my order. He immediately hands me my order and says it was just completed. I think that was a lie, since the food wasn't hot. Secondly, when one pays extra for cheese it would be appreciated if it didn't mainly end up on the wrapper and not on the sandwich. Paper lining the foil started to disintegrate. These po boys should be in a styrofoam container. Lastly, the food was tasty when chicken and fish were reheated.

I love that they have a variety of options. You can order baked goods, a steak sandwich with fries, a salad, or soul. They offer you options in their three restaurants that are located right next to one another. I have tried their beef cheesesteak, chicken cheesesteak, fried shrimp po boy, a grilled shrimp po boy, and a shrimp scampi po boy and not one of them disappointed. I enjoy the garlic flavor of the toasted roll. My sandwiches always have the right amount of cheese or applicable sauce and the portion size are quite filling (I usually only eat half of whatever I order and finish the other half later). My recent order consisted of a cheesesteak and a grilled chicken salad with ranch dressing. I ordered this for lunch and shared it with my cousin who was visiting. It was her first time trying their food and she said it was delicious.

I saw a review on JL Jupiter about Gilbens Po Boy sandwiches,at Gilbens Bakery and I really had to have one. I went and purchased the Salmon Po Boy. It was one of the biggest sandwiches I've ever seen, all the ingredients were fresh, the special sauce was Amazing. Called and ordered it in advance, it was ready when I got there. Everyone was friendly and very nice. I also purchased the Triple Chocolate Cake, which was "Unbelievable," they run a very clean establishment. There are really 3 stores connected that make up the business. The newer addition sells platters of real great looking soul food. That will be my next purchase. It was around dinner time, they had a store full of customers. Everyone there, said that the food was Excellent, Flavourful, and worth it. I will be returning when I want a good meal made with Love. It was like my Nana was back in the kitchen. Everything looked Sooooo Good. I will be going back, one of Philly's Best Kept secret. Delicious, Home Made, Well Worth the money. Please check them out, call in your Sandwich order, they are very, very busy. You can walk in for platters and baked goods.

Not a late night spot. Closed at 7pm on a Friday when I visited. Ordered pulled pork, mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes with a side of greens. The barbecue sauce, which is delicious, was added after the fact so you can get it without if you want. Portions can easily feed 2 people.

AMAZING!!!!! So good! You have to go here. We drove from NY just to experience the delicious Philly cheese steak and Salmon and Shrimp poboy. It was worth it!! Check them out! You will not be disappointed

A friend recommended me this place, so I decided to try it out. When you place your order, they take down your phone number. They will call you outside when your order is done. Known for their Po Boys, Hoagies, & Cheesesteak, I tried The Grilled Shrimp Scampi Po Boy. It was outstanding. It's better to eat it when the bread is grilled, and hot. They have an assortment of desserts from cupcakes, and slices of cakes to choose from as well. I tried the Caramel Cupcake, and I wasn't disappointed. Next door, the also have a soulfood spot. I like the combination of businesses.

We checked out for dinner tonight and my goodness why haven't we ordered takeout from here sooner!? 👏🏿 Queue this tasty grilled shrimp po' boy and the delightful salmon po' boy. Both deserving of an award for sure. Gilben's is Black-Owned ✊🏿 and has quite the dessert offerings and more on their menu 😋. Be sure to check out their Sunday Soul Food menu too - my gawd🙏🏿! Icing on the cake (pun-intended) was the exceptionally friendly service and dare I say handsome staff. I'd give a hundred stars if I could.

So tell me how I was on my way to pick up some wings and pizza to watch the eagles game [Go Birds] when the smell from their grill straight up invaded my whole nasal system ...the place was bright and clean and the servers were very attentive....even threw in a extra rib for ya boy.....tell me how I get to the crib and my family devoured more than half the platter and I still was full off the leftovers....Im impressed ...5 stars

Every time I'm in Philly I will stop in to support Gilben's bakery! The food was better than expected. I got the shrimp po' boy and it was filled with jumbo shrimp and seasoned to perfection. They really care about the food they serve. Oh and the Apple Cheesecake is on another level!

Their salads are DIVINE! I purchased a salad (made my way) with grilled salmon & it was scrumptious. It was fresh & was enough that I ate some for dinner & saved some for the next day! They have plenty of salad ingredients from which to choose & like I indicated everything is so fresh AND the chicken, salmon or whatever protein you choose comes straight off the grill. This is what separates their salads from a place like SaladWorks. In addition,, it is a black family owned business. Oh, and they also offer hummus as one of the possible ingredients you can add to your salad. Gilbens offers a ton of other menu options such as po' boy sandwiches, steaks, pasta bowls & platters but I haven't gotten to any of those yet because I just cannot pass up their salads every time I order. Delicious!!!

went to gilbens around noon on a weekday last week and was shown great hospitality by the dude taking our order we were ordering 3 sandwiches and he asked if any needed to be packed up to avoid getting soggy they packed one of the sandwiches separate from that amazing garlic bread roll the salmon and shrimp were in a separate container, as well as the fried onions and sauces, we were able to reheat and enjoy fresh later that evening the cheesesteak is truly one of the best ive ever had, loaded with steak, it is a little messy but in a good way the location was good and parking can be found directly outside the establishment, please stop by if in the area

Aside from having the best Philly cheese steak..better than Paganos (bold and true statement, fight me) the customer service is top tier. Blair and Jordan ensure that when you enter you feel welcomed, and when you leave, you feel like family. The cheesesteak itself is tender, seasoned well, of quality and is not overwhelming with meat. All of the flavors blend well together layered on top of a slightly toasted, garlic bread, such a unique and distinguishable twist, I may add. Highly recommend**** G

The wait was not long given the line outside. The portion as you can see was spot on. The 5-Cheese Mac&Cheese was really good. Now the red velvet cake did not measure up to Cakeman Raven in Brooklyn.

I love this sandwich shop. They sell baked goods such as cakes, brownies, and cupcakes but the sandwiches are so filling that I never buy a sweet treat. I’ll eat half my sandwich, get full, and eat the rest later. During my most recent visit I went with the fried shrimp po boy sandwich. I wanted the grilled shrimp po boy but something was wrong with the grill. They lost a star because I wanted grilled shrimp. No matter though because that sandwich was darn good. I added cheese, fried onions, and their special sauce. I look forward to my next visit.

Amazingly delicious sandwiches! My grilled shrimp po' boy was a dreamy mélange of seasoned shrimp, cheesy sauce, and garlic bread. The only bad thing is that they are so busy! So order early, order often, and be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

Awesome black owned establishment. Customer service is great; always greeted with hellos and smiles. Their po'boy and cheesesteak sandwiches are deliciously crafted on garlic buttered rolls. On Sundays is all about soul food. Baaaaaby, they definitely put the soul in their bbq half chicken and Mac and cheese. To top this all off their cakes are light yet fulfilling. Food is always delicious. The only thing I don't like about the place is that, by them having 3 stores next door it's very easy to go to the wrong one and wait a few minutes for the staff to get done with the other customers who were in front of u, just to end up being told ur in the wrong store and have to re-wait in the correct one.

I ordered the extra gooey cheese steak & it was the best I've eaten the roll was awesome I also ordered the shrimp and grits the grits looked soupy so I put love in to my liking I don't think I'll order that again. I told him we have to stop by Gilbens Bakery!! Their customer service was excellent. Also their cakes are so amazing!! Coming from Virginia, I will definitely be back!!

Decided to check this place out since we ride past here almost every day. Took about 15 minutes to order but that was okay because the Customer Service was definitely on point. We ordered the Fried Fish Po Boy, a Cheesesteak, and the Lemon Cake. We waited about 20 minutes to get our order, which wasn’t bad because they were extremely busy. But let me tell you, it was definitely worth it. The cheesesteak was cheesy and seasoned really well. The garlic bread gives an unexpected punch in a good way. The fish was really good but between the fish, the garlic bread and the sauce it became overwhelming salty. The Lemon Cake made up for that quickly. Sooooooo good🤗🤗Definitely give this place a try!!

Food was prepared deliciously, but I was charged $5 more than was listed on the menu -- and this was not the first time I had ordered the item from this place of business. Cashier was unable to offer an explanation as to why this was the case. I appreciate the response back from the owner, but they are addressing the wrong issue. I understand more food is an additional expense.... That's Not what I requested. The cashier or individual who took the order did so incorrectly. I requested 1/2 fried on one side of the poi boy & 1/2 grilled shrimp on the other half... Not EXTRA - Same amount of shrimp. Were she unsure or needed clarity about the outcome, she should've checked before placing the order.

2-Stars for the Bakery-I've tried different desserts, i.e. brownies, cupcakes, so-called pound cake, and nothing tastes good to me... More like they used Betty Crocker, Pillsbury... from a box, and all you have to do is add water...nothing seems to taste like they made it from scratch. 5-Stars for the Soul food. Now their soul food is AMAZING, but the wait time for the soul food is a bit ridiculous but worth the wait!!!

For the most part the experience was good, service was fast not a long wait at all. One of the shrimp Poboys was not hot and could have had more sauce but tasted great, also they screwed our order up but mistakes happen. All in all we were happy and will go back next time we are in the area.

I called in my order and the order taker Blair was very pleasant and professional, then I received a telephone call advising me that my order was ready from a very professional lady named Candace. When I arrived my order was indeed ready and packed so neatly, I was inquiring about a whole red velvet cake although they were sold out they had other options. I purchased a double chocolate cake. Everything was so good and fresh, portions were good and customer service was exceptional. I will definitely return to this lovely establishment next Sunday. I am going to tell all of my colleagues, family and friends. I would’ve taken a picture of my platters but they were eaten so quickly, the cake is almost gone too. :) Gilbens is definitely my new go to.

Saw this restaurant on tiktok months ago and was starving on the way home . Ordered the shrimp po boy & a fried fish platter greens and bake Mac. The shrimp po boy was great. The platter wasn’t my favorite. If I order again, I’ll only do the po boy. Loved they make their fish and fried salmon fresh to order .

Food is tasty and portions are satisfying. The pick up process is challenging when they're busy like on Soul Food Sunday. You order online or in the shop and then they're supposed to call when your order is ready. If you haven't gotten a call within 30 mins after ordering you should go into the shop and look for your platter on the "to go" shelves. Worth the wait.

Omg, I went last night to treat someone fir their birthday. When I took ribs, turkey meat loaf, string beans, potato salad, and tuna salad to them, they just kept saying mmmmmmm.... sooooo good. This was my first time at this Bakery. I went on soul food Sunday. Although they did run out of a lot of food that was on their soul food Sunday menu, but what I did have it was super delicious and I am very pleased. Excellent portion. I know where to get a good dinner from on a Sunday. I would just get there a lot earlier than I did, so I can have a more variety of what I want to eat.

I just really like this shop. Not only do they take pride in their creations, appealing to the eyes and the taste buds, but they take great pride in their customer service as well. I've gone in there at different times and always gotten great customer service which is just as important as the high quality of their food. Definitely try any of the po boys. The chicken salad is on point as well.

Gilbens was excellent. However it was extremely crowded so it took a long time for my order. I ordered a salmon and shrimp Po boy and chicken sliders. Their food is delicious and they give you a variety of pastries. Their Soul food Sunday platters will make your mouth water before it hits your palate. Overall Gilbens has great food and pastries. They will not disappoint. They could be somewhat pricey but it's worth the purchase.

I called and ordered ahead because I heard this place is always crowded. I ordered the buffalo fish poboy with cheese. They called back quick as hell and said it was done. I got my order and when I opened it I could smell the seasoning and the fish. The poboy was husky. I bit it and it was delicious. Seasoning just right fish was fried great. Gave my friend a piece she gonna say let get that. I said hell no. Buy your own. But I really would recommend this poboy. Imma try the other food as well soon. But this buffalo fish poboy was the truth.

I read about this place in the inquirer and my food was amazing. The Po Boy with shrimp was phenomenal. Even bites without shrimp were great because of the delicious garlic bread roll. I also got an upside-down pineapple cake which was equally amazing. I'm not even a sweets guy and I wasn't even hungry after my sandwich but I woofed that large pastry down in a little over a minute. 10/10

Started eating here right before the pandemic hit in Spring 2020. SO GOOD but didn't do much takeout because of the shutdown. Ordered again in Feb 2021, some sweet chili and scampi po'boys and with was still excellent. Ordered 6 shrimp & fish po'boys again for a party last night and everyone talked about how good they were. A bit of a wait if you don't order ahead of time, but absolutely worth the wait. You can always DoorDash it! Still GOOD delivered!

Support Black owned businesses. We must buy Black we must keep our money in our communities. I was impressed with the appearance, the costumer service was inviting and engaging. Social distancing was practiced the one thing that will cause me to return to an establishment is if you acknowledge me and you aren’t mad you came to work and your tried along with being pleasant. I will recommend you to others. The food was delicious pleasingly proportioned and presentation was outstanding and not generic. Highly recommended I will be back!

I finally had a chance to try their food after hearing good things about it. I was not disappointed with the fish sliders, they were delicious. Fish was flavorful, bun was soft and tasty. My mother said she thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp po'boy. Only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because they fall a little short on customer service. The young lady taking my order was very nice, friendly and polite. The shortfall comes with checking out once order is ready. If they make that transition smoother, than it definitely would be 5 stars.

Let me start by saying, I’ve been here a few times. I’ve had breakfast, the Po Boys, and Sunday Dinner. The food is good. Really good. Getting the Soulfood Sunday dinner has become a exercise in patience and futility and I can’t do it anymore. This past Sunday, August 9 just left a lot to be desired. First, I ordered online which they were only doing online or walk up orders. Ok. We ordered a few platters. I really wanted the stuffed salmon but it wasn’t available online so I opted for fried chicken and I’ve had it before, it’s usually buttermilk golden fried wings. So I get there, 15 mins after my pick up time (which was a hour from the time I ordered), food isn’t ready. No big deal, I’ve done this before so I wait another 20 mins and ask for a status, they tell me it’s not ready. Then I hear the lady saying their online system went down so they are just getting orders in. Oh God. So I ask again, she said they are working on it. My food is ready about another hour later, which is a total of two hours after I ordered, which I stood outside in the heat for a hour of that waiting for my food. Now I heard they had run out of fried chicken while I was waiting for my food but since no one said anything to me I thought it didn’t apply to people who had already ordered. I did glance at my food before leaving but when I got home I noticed my fried chicken wasn’t wings but a half chicken, it’s wasn’t crispy and was extremely dry. I was livid. Don’t change and not tell me, and the chicken wasn’t fried the same way probably because they improvised but don’t do that without notifying the customer. You don’t get to make the choice for me. My entire meal was ruined by the long wait and them substituting my main without asking. They have got to get the ordering system together, the wait times are ridiculous. There has to be a better way and I hope they figure it out and stay consistent so they can continue to prosper because as I said, the food is really good. I won’t be back for a while because my last experience left a lot to be desired

We saw Gilbens on GOOD DAY PHILLY we traveled from Camden N.J. the fried shrimp PoBoy was delicious the baked goods were on point . But the grilled shrimp PoBoy was a disaster so so salty it couldn't be eatin don't know if i will be going back again

I saw someone else's posting for this business and vowed to try it the next time I was in Philly. IT DID NOT DISAPPPOINT! The staff was very courteous and nicely explained that they were out of chicken (it was almost closing time). They were patient as we looked over the menu to choose something else. I was warned that the wait was long to get your food. I beg to differ. It wasn't long at all. We made a couple of extra stops on the way back to our hotel. The food was well packed in the container and it was still warm....and absolutely delicious. I definitely suggest the fried shrimp po'boy!

The food was delicious! Had the soul food. You can tell the cook cares about the flavor of the food. The food tastes like someone's grandma made it whereas with other soul food places, the food is good but you can tell it was made in a large quantity. The customer service was good as well. I made minor changes to my order TWO times and they didn't give me any issue. I like to support businesses with good customer service. The only reason why I didn't give five stars is because they over season but that's ok because some people like it like that. And the portions are small.

The staff is very friendly, I came for a po' boy, they informed me that they start making them around 11:30am. I left with breakfast food. Shrimp and grits and, Salmon and grits. The food was really good. I'll definitely be back. Just a heads up, if you're ordering a sandwich, it's advised that you order over the phone and expect a wait time of about an hour. Where do I begin? It’s all good. We had whiting po’ boy, with just lettuce and tomato. Because we were traveling (2 hours), the remoulade was put on the side. I waited to eat it 2 hours later. It was one of the best fish sandwiches I have ever had. On a Sunday we returned, it was late, but when we got there at 7:15, only soul food dinners were being served, but they only had sides left. I chose 4 sides and left with a chicken dinner, only because someone failed to pick up their order. I only had half of the side dishes. (Mac and cheese, garlic rice and gravy, garlic mashed potatoes and gravy and string beans). Rich, luxurious and just plain delicious. I tried a piece of the baked chicken...I wish I had more room in my stomach, but there is always tomorrow. This is family run business and they are the nicest people.

I had my first visit today. I ordered 3 shrimp po boys and took various baked goods home. The sandwiches were exceptional. However, the vanilla cake was a bit blaise and too sweet. Customer service was off the chain and they were rushing around but when I got my order they added 3 extra desserts to my order . I enjoy their food, I primary grab breakfast but I have eaten sandwiches from here as well. Tonight I tried the Fried Salmon Po Boy and I was not disappointed! My minor, and I do mean minor critique is that when the cook brought my food up for me to inspect, and close, the cashier, who was already ringing up another customer said she had it. My food sat uncovered for about 2 minutes until another worker closed and bagged it. Also, no napkins were placed in my bag. Aside from this their flag still flies high on my recommendation list.

I recently visited Gilben’s on Saturday October 24, 2020 and from the time I went in to order my food and then went back in to pick it up, my experience was exceptional. Gilben’s is a Black owned restaurant and the customer service was superb. The atmosphere within this establishment was filled with warmth and joy. Very pleasant and good music playing. I felt blessed just walking in. They told me my food would be ready in 20min and my food was ready in 15mins. I ordered 4 Fried Shrimp Po’ Boy and two sides of carrot cake and everything was delicious. The sandwiches come on a delectable garlic butter roll and was so fresh. The food and the customer service was so good I tried to go back the very next day and order the very same thing. I will definitely be going back and telling everyone I know to go visit Gilben’s. I will now be ordering my baked goods from here as well. With COVID going on, Gilben’s did a phenomenal job with social distancing and making sure everything was safe for everyone. I have ZERO complaints from the establishment. Great job to the cooks and staff. I am overly satisfied. Happy eating good people and be blessed.

Today I saw a picture of the actual members if Black Wall Street. It was awesome. You can get anything from desserts to sandwiches to a hot soul food platter. I ordered via doordash and order a extra gooey cheese steak and a fried Chicken po' boy. The cheese steak was a little light on the meat but it was very tasty very cheesy and very satisfying. For almost $10 I would have liked a little more meat in it, especially after seeing the cheesesteak they gave JL Jupiter for his video. I heard about Gilbens from reality radio. They were one of the three black own business given on Tuesdays to support. They are said to be known for their're Proboy sandwiches. GILBEN'S Food is DELICIOUSLY AMAZING TO THE PALET!!! In a city that's known internationally for its food, particularly some good Soul Food dives, Gilben's Bakery and Specialty Sandwich Shop has to be one of the best Black owned-takeout Restaurants in the city of Philadelphia. I first learned of Gilben's through WDAS's own Radio Commentator- Patty Jackson when she did a live-video review a few years ago and then thru some relatives, who come all the way from the other side of the city just for the Fish Sliders and the Po' Boy Sandwiches alone! My goodness are they GOOD! They give these nice little healthy portions of fish on a bun served with a side chips all for a nice price that makes it even more worthy to try. SOUL FOOD SUNDAYS...Is what it is ALL about for me in particular, because if you're like me and you're in the mood for some really good traditional with a slight nudge-soul food, then you better run and not walk on Sundays ordering! Starting with the Turkey Wings, that are succulent and tasty and are a customer's favorite. The Fried Fish platter which is good, the Smothered Pork Chops are to die for and of course, what I call the Gospel Bird-lol! Fried Chicken which is everybody's favorite as well as baked or Curry Chicken. All of that along with some really well put together Side Dishes such as the Collard Greens, Butter Garlic Broccoli, Potato Salad, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, some good ole' Fried Cabbage, Buttered Corn, Candied Yams and some close-your-eyes- 5 Cheese-Mac & Cheese. The Prices are excellent and the food is worthy! But don't stop there! There are so many delicious delights to try just from the Sweet side of the Bakery menu. At least add Friday evening and all day Saturday lol.The baked goods in my opinion are some of the best in the area. I prefer here over The Frosted Fox or Bredenbecks which are more expensive. Again he was very nice and polite even as busy as he was.. now the food that's just a world of goodness and worth the drive from lansdale.
