The ladies at the front were friendly and there was a steady flow of customer orders being placed and being picked up. The wait was about 20 minutes and the food looked scrumptious. Despite being super thin, the whiting fish meal was good. The mac and cheese was not too creamy and was not bland. The green bean's were delicious too. The chicken breast sandwich and fries looked commercial ready, but wasn't as great. Unfortunately, the thicker end of the chicken breast was not fully cooked and didn't come with what was listed on the menu description. It came with a piece of lettuce and tomato, which wasn't even listed. The coating on the fries gave them a weird, flavorless sweet potato vibe. Seems like the menu was outdated because a few items I asked about weren't available.

Whoa! This spot is incredible. Some of the most DELICIOUS breakfast food I've had in a LOOOONG TIME! Ingredients are fresh and food is made to order. Great service and the owner Vonda, is great! My friends got the catfish and grits and I did cheese eggs, home fries and cheese grits. Will definitely return. Go, you won't be disappointed, I promise!

I ordered on Uber eats. Catfish and grits. The food was neatly packed and good quantity. The home potatoes were so flavorful. Tasted like mushroom unions and peppers. I loved them. The grits with white cheddar cheese was very good too. Overall great meal.

We searched for a black owned breakfast restaurant and I'm so glad we found this gem! We had the shrimp and grits which were amazing (sorry - no pic). The consistency was on point and the jumbo shrimp were sized and seasoned to perfection. The fish (whiting) and grits with eggs and homefries were also perfect. The fish was well seasoned and delicious, the homefries 😋 were delicious, the eggs were cooked perfectly.👌🏽 Even the blueberry as well as strawberry lemonade were delicious (if you like sweet drinks). Vonda's owes us nothing. It was well worth the 40 minute drive from our hotel. We had hoped to return while in town today but unfortunately they are not open on Tuesdays. 😔 We will definitely return when in NJ.

We came from L.I. and it was well worth the trip. We had several dishes and sides, everything was delicious. The service was welcoming, friendly and professional. Nice place on a quiet block. You must get the shrimp and grits.

***4 1/2 stars*** Several years ago, I came here with a friend and had a perfect experience. It didn't get any better - the food was out of this world and at one point Vonda herself came out to chat with us for a few minutes. It just checked off all the boxes, and I recommended this place to tons of people. Shortly after this meal, I actually had Vonda's cater my Oscar party. I couldn't have loved this place more. This was my first visit in a while, and while the food was still amazing, some of the magic is gone, which is a shame. Vonda's is not in the best neighborhood, but I've been in worse. We found street parking very close by, probably a hundred yards or so from the entrance. As with my last visit, my chum and I were the only white visitors, but I definitely didn't feel like we were being eyeballed or anything - we were treated just like anyone else (and I go out of my way to mention this because I know some people WOULD be nervous coming into an area like this; it is what it is. Also, I stick out like a sore thumb in all-white neighborhoods too). We stopped by around noonish this past Sunday. There were a few tables to choose from, but you could also tell Vonda's was slammed with to-go orders based on the frenetic activity behind the counter. Throughout our meal, there was definitely heavy foot traffic in and out, and I'd guess our food was delayed by 10 minutes or so because of that. Not a huge deal, especially since this is made-to-order goodness and you should expect a slightly longer wait time as a result. I opted for the fried catfish entree ($12.50), which came with two sides - I went with the mac and cheese and the candied yams. Vonda's has the best mac and cheese I've ever had. It's not up for debate. I LOVE it, and like basically any warm-blooded American, I've had my share. It's just scrumptious on all levels. The candied yams are amazing. I definitely haven't had nearly as much of that particular dish for comparison purposes, but I feel like it's a good way to get dessert without actually getting dessert, if that makes sense. Perfect candied taste and texture. The fried catfish was also amongst the best I've ever had. I think it was supposed to come with some type of sauce but it was so juicy I didn't bother to follow up with the waitress. My chum ordered the chicken and waffles ($13.50), as well as the kitchen mac bowl ($11.50). She liked the food but wasn't as over the moon about it as much as I was. That's probably at least partially on me since I talked this place up massively ahead of time, but what actually prompted this visit was a March meal that we had at Sweet T's in Montclair. They serve very similar food, and during that meal I told her that I thought Vonda's was better. (For the record, I really liked Sweet T's but I had concerns about their service and an oppressive reservation policy.) She still thinks Sweet T's is better, but she can write her own review if she feels that passionately about it. The price point here is excellent (WAY lower than Sweet T's), and the food is noticeably yummier. So why can't I commit to the full five stars here? It came down to the staff. Everyone we interacted with seemed super stressed and overwhelmed (though I wouldn't say anyone was unpleasant to us). Our young pup waitress was very nice but also seemed to be in charge of manning the phone, which rang constantly. There were a few little things that slipped through the cracks. For instance, she forgot to take our menus off the table after we gave our orders, which prompted one of the other employees to ask us if we had been helped yet, and my catfish entree was supposed to come with corn bread and didn't. Huge problem? Absolutely not, but some of those tiny issues can add up over the course of the meal. This is still a recommendation for sure, but my enthusiasm has diminished a bit. I think the problems can be rectified fairly easily, especially since they've mastered the food.

Delicious! The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because the oxtail was pricy and they soaked the rice with the oxtail sauce. I hate mushy rice. The potato salad was also too sweet. The whiting was to die for and the serving of corn bread was much more generous than many other places. Overall the food was delicious and I would definitely return

While visiting NJ, my son & I took a drive to Newark to support a Black Owned Restaurant. I must say my brunch was delicious and my son enjoyed his chicken sandwich. Our server was very friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. There was a table with two older women enjoying their lunch, which consisted of a traditional soul food entree & another table where a young lady sat and did work on her laptop. There was a flow of customers placing and picking up orders, some new, like myself and some regulars. We were all greeted with a smile and the warmth of the happiness and satisfaction anyone should receive when we visit an establishment. It definitely matters. I throughly enjoyed my meal and time here.

Excellent food, me and a friend came before Rolling Loud and we loved it. The catfish and grits were amazing. French toast was perfect. Corn bread melts in your mouth. I definitely recommend this place

We had breakfast this Sunday morning . I had the fried whiting with Parmesan grits, potatoes and whole wheat toast. The food was hot and delicious. Great experience the waitress was very nice as well. Vonda came over to chat with us it was nice to meet her so friendly.

These turkey wings and gravy were so good that I ordered TWICE in three days!! The gravvyyyyy...wooooow!!! Lick your fingers good!!! My only complaint is that the second time I ordered, they gave me a drumstick instead of flats. Anyone who truly grew up in soul food knows that we only like the flats. Other than that, the wings were cooked perfectly....the gravy was OUT OF THIS WORLD....the mac and cheese wasn't the best that I've ever had....but it was still very good. The collard greens and potato salad were flavorful. Solid three stars. Would be five were it not for the drumstick. I recommend this establishment.

Bestfriend treated me for my birthday and wow 😍what a treat. My first impression is the owner cares and takes pride in her work. The place is beautifully decorated with local art and modern design. I appreciate her style because often our restaurants can be overly cluttered with decor. It was clean and we got a seat quick. I ate the dessert so fast I missed a photo. Yellow cake choc icing was that good classic cake. The fried chicken and shrimp was amazingly seasoned and the sides were delicious! No leftover food poorly reheated. It was all fresh. The parking is not great but worth the fight. The homemade teas and drinks are the bomb🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿My friend had a vegetarian wrap to my surprise her veterinarian and vegan options were pretty plentiful.

Hands down the BEST soul food around. Everything is made to order and the taste is AMAZING. Stopped here on New Years Eve for a birthday brunch for my wife. I had the catfish. Wwwwhhhooooooowwweeee!! Fried hard but the flaky tender meat was very tasty. My sons had the crab cakes and my wife had the whiting. The sides………… the yams will make you smack yo momma! I had the Mac and cheese. To die for!! We LOVE stopping by Vondas. Do yourself a favor and stop by!

We used this restaurant for our office Christmas party and they gave us a decent deal. The food was good but the beef ribs and baked macaroni and cheese were a bit salty. I also didn’t really like the cheese that was used for the baked macaroni and cheese. If not for that, I would’ve gave this place 5 stars. However, the woman I dealt with by the name of Keisha who handled the order was extremely helpful and friendly.

This was DELICIOUS. I got the Brioche French Toast, with bananas, turkey bacon, and walnuts topped with warm syrup. I have never eaten walnuts with French toast before, until now , and now I CANNOT go back. Since eating this, I too have decided to cook this at home for breakfast. I will definitely ordering again on Doordash, and will been going to the location in person.

We found this place on Yelp, and wow we were so glad we did. This is a neighborhood spot, the kind of place where people know each other's names and ask how your day is going. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and it was perfect. The shrimp, the grits, the tomatoes on top were all great. There were also some salted shrimp tails in there for some extra flavor. My husband ordered the grilled cheese, and it really hit the spot for him. The Texas toast was the cherry on top :) If you're flying in or out of EWR, this place is just a 10-minute drive away, and you won't regret it!

Great family restaurant vibe w/homemade recipes. Got blueberry pancakes and pork bacon with sweet tea. Tea tasted a bit like cough syrup(?) and the bacon was deep-fried, making it a bit too crunchy (I was worried I’d chip a tooth). Blueberry pancakes were okay. Wish the blueberries were better incorporated into the batter. Haven’t tried the non-Breakfast menu, so I’m hoping that was better.

Their food is really good. They have their bad days sometimes during rush hour so if you ever didn't like their food just come back another day during a better time. One thing I didn't like though is that during one of their rush hours I received chicken that wasn't fresh. I hope this doesn't happen again.

Today me,my husband and our BFF's,husband and wife stopped in to eat. A wonderful experience all around. The food was top notch,absolutely delicious. 2 of us ordered the fried whiting,grits,eggs and home fries, 1 the shrimp and grits and 1 salmon cakes with grits,eggs and home fries,. OK Vonda...I'm from the south and up north good soul food is hard to find. It's a sham to say the least....but my greens and Mac and cheese so fa the best I've had...I leave out one star cause the shrimp and grits was missing that Cajun flavor no heat coming from a person thats from Texas....the cornbread is undercooked and caky (the toast is awesome) butother than. I'm about to keep tasting this wonderful menu and see what this lady is talking bout...stay tuned!!!

Probably eat here too much but I’m ok with that. All the breakfast food is good with hearty portions and we usually eat the catfish extra crispy for dinner. My only caveat is definitely make ensure you check your bag before you leave. They’ve forgotten my black eyed peas 3/4 times. Ask specifically for any condiments you need before you go.

Can I give them 10 stars, last week I ate here 3 times. Twice through Uber Eats and also in person. I have had their fried whiting, meatloaf, potato salad, yams, mac n cheese, fries, fried catfish, chopped bbq chicken, cornbread, fried Tilapia and uptown. Everything I had was good. But the string beans I had last time were salty and my aunt had their collard greens and said they’re salty. If you’re not salt sensitive then you’ll be fine. But I will try their breakfast next. Thank you Vonda’s Kitchen for you polite service, fresh food, all around my favorite restaurant.

Found a little hidden gem. I never knew this place was here, I was getting my car repaired in the area, and the person who picked me up searched for a place to eat and Vonda's came up. So glad we stopped in. We had the Grilled Salmon & Spinach Omelette. It was Incredibly Delicious! I will definetly be going back to try something else.👍🙂

Small place for the quality of the meal. Dine-in but you don't get tableside service. I ordered food to go. The flavor of the food was very good though. I had food for party of 4. I got pancakes while the others had fried or steamed fish. Everyone was pleased with their meal. No one ever gives enough syrup, so I recommend griddle cakes only if dining in. Food was prepared relatively quickly for a walk-in, to-go order. Food is on par with any other upscale soul food restaurant. Space and seating could be better though.

Generally tasty and great food. The lightly fried whiting was heavily fried. Waitresses were prompt, courteous and generally delightful. The downside is the sticky floor which left a tar Like residue on our shoes. Not a good look or feel. Otherwise I would have been inclined to give a 4 star rating.

Great food! This is place for down home food that will remind of Mama's cooking. All that and friendly atmosphere of home with food served to you. It's clean, spacious, yet, cozy. Located across ftom the school with street-side parking. People gather frequently after church on Sunday. Take-out service is available. Call-ahead.

Leaving out of Jersey tonight headed back to Phoenix and decided to stop in at Vonda’s Kitchen. Granted there were 5 of us in total, the service there was exceptional! The menu has everything to offer from chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits. Definitely missing a spot like this back home. I would personally like to that the young lady that served our table (Miss Bern). She really made our time there a good one. My friend ordered the whole menu (not really) and she laughed with us and said she was gonna sit back there and I watch him eat it all lol. That was a good little laugh that we all shared. Incredible place and I’d recommend to anyone in the area or visiting.

I gave 3 stars cause the food was delicious! But the attitude & manner of this owner is atrocious! She called me about my order, accusing me of setting up my order wrong & yelling at me for not chosen which type of bacon (beef) I wanted . However, their Uber Eats selection platform doesn't give the customer a choice. Tried to slow her row by getting back on topic, so advised I want beef bacon, she yelled, "No, I already made your sandwich, so not.. Totally unprofessional. Vonda could try asking instead of accusing the customer of your should have choose on site. gain advised to choice given.. the vaught!. Though the food was good, I will never spend my money here again.

I normally don’t write reviews because I love to tell my friends and suggest places in person. I never write bad reviews because I understand the power of a bad review and how they are 6 times more suggestive than a positive review. You can easily ruin someone’s business by not keeping your mouth shut because of your bias. At the end of the day who cares about the service for a carry out order, get your food and go home and eat. I am writing this review because Aunt Vonda’s is incredible all the way around! Excellent, we ordered three meals and we ate in silence with only grunts and moans heard over smacking! The fried chicken is absolutely incredible. Reminds me of when I was little boy asleep in church and I would wake up and wipe the Jheri curl juice out of my eyes because I would smell Mother Wilke’s fried chicken coming from the basement! The potato salad is excellent with the perfect consistency and the greens were the delicious with the perfect texture. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding. My wife had the shrimp and grits and it is loaded with shrimp and the grits were next level! I review a lot of places verbally because we eat everything from chitterlings to escargot, so I know food. This place right here is the Prime 225 of Soulfood. They will be around for a long time. Just weather the storm and stay focused on the food. Even with the service being excellent I could really care less if it wasn’t for a take out order because I am there to buy the fried chicken and not buy a five minute relationship with a cashier.

The food is very good and the place very nicely decorated. it has so much potential but needs to step up in certain areas; be more organized and consider the small details such as cleanliness. Vonda, the white walls and floors are filthy. On my last visit my feet kept sticking to the floor. I had to change my seat just to find the same conditions. please clean your floors. it doesn’t make for a good impression, especially in a place where you are eating. this visit to VONDA's was my first. I was with a group of cool people. we had not made reservations but.our group of 12 were accommodated on the spot. much appreciated. service was satisfactory and would have been great had not they mixed up the orders and the wait was too long nor was the persons waiting for food forewarned about the wait. the food I had was savory. I had fried catfish, potatoe salad, greens and green beans. loved the fish and green beans. the rest was edible. I would go back there for a second visit for the oxtails whenever I'm in Jersey. I doubt that I would make a special visit from queens however. it is a small quaint and family friendly restaurant. the kids would love the homemade lemonade. i did. it appears to be across from a school or some community center. ease of parking is questionable. I think I lucked up.

The food here tastes great but that is all you will be paying for. The service could use lots of improvement. First, I was not greeted at the door. In fact, as I was in line, the person behind me was assisted before I was. Next, I awkwardly stood in front of counter for nearly 30 minutes to find my food cold and unprepared at the front. Lastly, it took another 15 minutes before my order was rung up. I was given a complimentary meal but it was someone's forgotten order. Quality food with consistent, prompt and friendly service would warrant 5 stars. This establishment is pretty far from.

First off the food is always good and service is constant. Second the owner checks on the customers periodically and is diligent about it. Had this several times food was always good, BUT on Sept 10, I was trying to call to place my order and the phone just rang, rang and rang. I ended up just going by which I was kinda across town and wanted my food to be ready when I arrived. When I got there it was flies all over, dirty plates where someone had dined left on the table, floors were so sticky and had trash around. It looked like they haven’t cleaned for awhile. Not to mention when I got there it was a man standing in the doorway which he greeted me and I asked if the phones were working and he said they have been having problems with it for awhile. I said ok and proceeded to walk in and seen the mess. I was so disappointed, I never have a problem with supporting my people but I will never sit in there and eat with trash around, sticky floors and those disgusting flies. Also, it wasn’t busy so I didn’t understand why two workers were constantly sitting in the dining area looking at tv and not cleaning up. I stood and waited for my food which I stood too long and had to put some force into stepping away because the floors were so sticky. Lastly, I heard the phones ringing while waiting and they were putting pick up orders out. So I’m not sure why my calls weren’t answered and that wasn’t the first time with the phone situation

Upon arriving on a Sunday afternoon to Vondas Kitchen about 12.30pm, after our Sunday Worship, we had to stand outside for 15 minutes. However the food was worth the wait. Even though there were plenty of tables unoccupied, as we initially observed & we wondered why we weren't invited in to be seated immediately, we realized that the physical distancing was being observed for safety precautions. We had the Smothered Turkey Wings and Catfish dinners, with great side orders and cornbread. Wonderful! They are also open Tues- Sunday for breakfast as well. Soooo happy that it has reopened after being closed for remodeling. Additionally, the staff was very accommodating and professionally polite!Vonda's Kitchen has our vote!!

Soul food Heaven! Came here on Sunday for mid morning brunch and was not disappointed. It's cute spot, that gets busy at times. Very attentive service, and everyone is super friendly. The food was nice and fresh. Chicken and waffles were spot on! Nice crispy buttermilk waffles, and fried to perfection chicken.

Vonda's Kitchen has catered a retirement party for my company of 43 employees in Jan 20 and our holiday luncheon in December. Their food and service were spot on both times. Went by yesterday with a craving for fried chicken and not only did we satisfy that craving but, we also had some outstanding Short Ribs and Fried Tilapia. Really enjoyed eating here on a first date. I ordered the chicken and waffles: the chicken wings were fried to perfection - they weren't heavy with oil and I didn't feel tired or sluggish after eating them. The waffle could've been slightly bigger and a bit crunchier on the outside but that's just my preference with waffles: I like a nice Belgium waffle with this particular dish. I also ordered a catfish box and ginger root lemonade to-go. I was a little surprised by the amount of catfish I received - I was expecting a catfish sandwich and fries however I only received chunks of fried catfish, maybe amounting to 1 - 1 1/2 filets of catfish and a salad. Luckily I grabbed my date's cornbread and put it in the container. The cornbread was good and the lemonade was delicious. There are not very many places in the NY tri-state area that actually live up to their "southern atmosphere" label. This place actually feels like a southern restaurant. Great food and friendly staff that greeted me upon entering. My waiter was very patient. Definitely a restaurant that can accommodate groups as well as a place for first-dates.

I just finished eating at Vonda's and the food was amazing however there was a misunderstanding about my order which is why I can e them 3 stars. I asked for the shrimp and grits with the gravy and sausage on the side. It sounds simple but for there staff is wasn't. 4 people walked over to us and confirmed the order and still got it wrong. My group became little frustrated because we couldn't understand why our order was so complicated but after they finally brought out my food the way I requested it was great. I just wished the staff handled my request a little better because I could see the frustration on their faces which I found a little unsettling.

My experience was awesome but I noticed it got very busy 30 minutes after being there and they needed more help much more help I saw a couple walked out after sitting for 15 minutes without anyone coming to their table and I also saw two other couples sitting there for over 15 minutes. Just had the Fish and Grits breakfast platter and it was banging!!! They were out of whiting (only because it is so popular on Sundays, so to be fresh out on Tuesday morning is understandable). I had high hopes as I read some of the reviews. The location was easy and so was parking. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated, we were greeted right away. Maybe it was an off day, but service was lackluster and it was not crowded. We had breakfast, there was a mix up with the order so we had to wait for a do over. The food came out finally it was good. My Mom and I were going to be in Newark for the day (visiting from NY) .... I pretty much go with the flow but my mom is super picky . Two days before the trip I did a little research and based on reviews and the pictures I settled on Vonda's Kitchen. It was a great choice . We were immediately greeted when we walked in . Our waitress was knowledgeable about all the menu items . Any one that know anything about southern food knows that you don't mess with just anyone's meatloaf ....... I took my chances and it was so good !!! The gravy was on point , the Mac and cheese was cheesy and the cabbage reminded me of my grandma, lol. The Uptown (Arnold Palmer ) was refreshing . There was a light crowd so my waitress was a little busy . Usually when you go to restaurants they other wait staff is not too willing to go out of their way if you are not their table . There was a waiter named Terence that went above an beyond ( I even tipped him and he wasn't my waiter , lol) overall I had a great experience. A cute little eatery in Newark , surrounded by new developments .... a great addition to the future up and coming Newark . P.s. the bathrooms were clean!!!

They have great customer service, if you have any issues with your food they are there to correct it and make it better. The staff is great and respectful everyone cares. Vonda's has been a pleasant place to frequent for breakfast over the last year and a half, until my last visit, April 5, 2019. It was just all kinds of wrong. The service was suddenly horrible, the food was not as tasty and even undercooked. When I complained about my eggs being inedible they didn't take the charge off my receipt. I will try them one more time, maybe the morning staff quit or something.

I usually eat lunch or dinner, but tried for breakfast. The biscuits and omelette were in a pool or butter or grease. I like butter but just not necessary. Also...why or why all that I'd offered with fresh biscuits is cheap high fructose grape jelly is beyond me. Even the tiny places in the Soyth have fresh jam and not a single biscuit is in a pool of butter. The fried catfish, chopped chicken are a couple of my go to orders. Also, I agree service is slow. A lot of staff but no one is moving quick. It has been open for awhile now....wonder if maybe they are slipping a bit? I'll still be in for lunch but there are better options for breakfast.

I enjoyed my food, which was the shrimp and grits, but the service was terrible. It took the server 15 minutes to initially come over and he forgot part of the order. We didn't mention it to the server. We ate what we had, paid our bill and left. This is my first time having Vonda's. I'm from Essex County but I'm a new Newark resident. I'm giving them 5 stars because the food is delicious and 4 stars wouldn't really be doing it justice because it is in fact, closer to 5 than 4. I ordered on Uber eats so I didn't see my food before it came. I got Smothered Turkey Wings (comes with rice), candied yams and mac and cheese and a ginger ice tea. Everything was great. The ONLY complaint I have is the cheesecake I ordered was TINY! it was $4.50 and was a little SLIVER. like 3-4 bites. I was just expecting more for $4.50. What I will say is they gave me A LOT of food. I mean A LOT. probably enough for 2-3 hungry people. Maybe on purpose? IDK. I will definitely order from them again, but probably won't get dessert unless I'm in the area picking it up and can see it before I buy it.

I often order lunch from Vonda's Kitchen and have been pleased with my food choices. Of course, in the case of most food establishments, I prefer some food choices over others. But, I always find the food to be well-seasoned, tasty and great portions. When I come in to pick up my food the place always looks neat and clean. What I most like is that they use healthy alternatives when preparing soul/southern food dishes. My co-workers are now hooked on the food as well!

Vonda's doesn't have a parking lot but there is ample street parking. It's across from a school and down the street from JFK pool. The place is casual dress you are greeted when you walk in by the staff. We proceeded to take seat as we were told to sit wherever we like. The minute we sat our server came right saying we serve breakfast all day handed us our menu an ask for our drink order. The look of the place is nice and casual reminded me of an old style cafe with a modern look. Two TVS playing College Football good music playing in the background. You feel like you are home so you are extremely comfortable. I ordered Blackened Catfish, Mac n Cheese with Garlic Green Beans. Chicken, Mac n Cheese with biscuits is what my wife ordered I got café wife strawberry lemonade. While waiting for our food two thick slices of cornbread were delivered to our table. The cornbread nice and hot served with whipped butter knife and fork. The lemonade looked so good I had to order one myself it was sweet but not that sugary sweet where it taste like syrup. Slices of fresh or strawberries and lemons in a mason jar how cool is that. The dishes came to our table everything looked spectacular. I almost didn't say my prayers cause I wanted to dig in. I haven't eaten catfish in over 20+ years. The catfish was Blacken perfect it was moist and delicious if didn't know you were eating catfish you would pleasantly surprised. The macaroni super cheesy the garlic green bean crisp and has onions. The chicken fried perfect nice crispy and juicy. My wife who doesn't like catfish tasted it and say yes I would order that. Why did I wait this long to go to Vonda's. If a home cooked meal is what you are looking for then Vonda's Kitchen can't be beat. Red Velvet cake and macaroni to go the bill was also easy on the pockets for such an outstanding meal.

Vonda's has really good food and the staff there is very nice. My only issue here is the actual service. It is extremely slow and can be so much better. It seems that there is too much overlap of duties between the hostess, waitress, bus boys and cashier. No reason fot a waitress to be washing dishes and a hostess wiping off tables and a busboy being asked to give menus to all ready sat patrons. If they can streamline their processes it would be a much better experience for their patrons.

Just ate at Vonda's Kitchen for breakfast and I highly highly recommend eating here. Amazing food and amazing service. I got the 4 Beef Hash Sliders, a side of grits and a coffee. I could only finish two of the sliders and half of the grits and for $10 you can't beat it! I can't wait to come back here to try their lunch! Anyone who works in the Newark area or is visiting Newark I highly suggest that you stop here! Thank you Vonda and the beautiful server I had!

I've eaten here a few times after a friend recommended the place. My experiences with Vonda's have all been positive. I found the staff to be polite and attentive. Oh and the food is EXCELLENT! I will definitely be eating here again.

Not what I expected. First visit vegetable and macaroni and cheese had no taste. Both were bland. Nothing worth the money I paid. 2nd visit about the same. Had the jumbo fish sandwich and was surprised at how small the whiting fish were. Not jumbo at all. Did the yams on the did. Good, but to sweet for my taste. Ordered the sweet potatoe pie. Wow I was surprised when it was not home made. It was a bean pie. It tasted good. I may give it one more try at 1am attempt at the oxtails. The place is clean and staff very pleasant. That alone will recommend and give it a try yourself.

No meals were being served on site today. But the takeout was excellent. The counterperson, a very polite and apologetic person, explained that there had recently been a fire in the apartment house above the restaurant. Because of that they chose not to seat customers until the dining room was thoroughly scrubbed. I had the egg and beef bacon panini and a side of turkey sausage. It was well seasoned and nicely cooked. The portion was generous and it didn't suffer significantly from the half hour trip in a Styrofoam to-go container. Ordered Vonda’s Special and the healthy omelette. Both were delicious. Recommend the special if you’re feeling indulgent. Would've been 5 stars except that, recently, the service is slow and on one occasion substituted my order without asking me. I ordered brisket sliders and was served slop consisting if potatoes and bacon smothered in ketchup. I've been at the restaurant at least a dozen times and food is mostly good but it isn't fast food so be prepared to wait. Go there before you get really hungry. If not, you'll get "hangry" waiting for your meal.

We told the server our concerns since it was already after 3:00pm and he promised to get us out by 4:30pm so we could dine in. Random Google find, looking for comfort food. Bad first impression with the smell was a little overwhelming at first (fried fish). We stayed, we were the only white people in the restaurant. Excellent experience the staff was very friendly and all the food was Amazing! I had to sneak food from everyone's plate, I had the mac and cheese buffalo bowl, unique but a great combination, I would order that buffalo chicken over chili's and applebees boneless wings anyday. Wife had a Ceasar salad, that was one of the best she has ever had. Our third wheel had the catfish that I had to keep stealing bits of. I was very upset my stomach could not finish all the food on the tabel. Highly recommended this place would be a weekly visit from me if I was local.
