When it comes to soul food, it’s so hard to find a spot where you really enjoy your entire meal. This place hit all the right spots. Oxtails were great, wings seasoned and fried perfectly, yams were sooo good ( I’m super picky with my yams too.) and the whiting was perfect. No complaints about anything. Portions we’re worth the price. Definitely will be a regular here. I can’t wait to try other items on their menu.

Quick, friendly service. Beautiful decor. Best of all the food is die for. I've had a few different menu items and there isn't a dish I don't like. My go to is the honey BBQ wings dinner. It's so so good, I returned a week later to get it again! I highly recommend this restaurant to away who loves delicious soulfood. You can really taste the love and passion.

My cousins and I celebrated our Birthday Dinner at Madre and Sons (she insist it was her 4th dinner from them) and everything was delicious. That blueberry cornbread and blueberry lemonade to top it off!!!! Thank you for bringing real Southern Food back to Newark along with a nice atmosphere. We’ll be back real soon.

So I was referred this place by a brother I shared my love for great food with. Well I decided to give this place a try and Man I was very pleased with my purchase, I ordered the Catfish and Mac and Cheese with Collard Greens . ,the food was well seasoned not salty at all very well prepared Mac and Cheese was on point, You can't have a soul food spot with some lame Mac N Cheese. I pray that this business does great in the success of the food industry.they have me as a supporter for sure 💯 ❤

Food is 10/10 ! I had the sweet chilli shrimp and it was amazing. The mac and cheese was cheesy. The collard greens were slightly too salty for me and i wish it had meat but nonetheless, it was still good ! I dont know if that was cake or corn bread but I ate it up !! The food come out in a timely manner. The workers checked on me and made sure I was okay and that I wasn’t waiting too long. Clean environment ! I will definitely be returning. & get the blue lemonade!!

I LOVE the food here...the portions are definitely worth the price...however, several times I've gone during my (limited) lunch break around or after opening time, and they've been closed. On one occasion I went next door to the conjoined business and I asked if next door was open, and the lady behind the counter said no. I asked if she knew what time they'd be open and she said "idk"...so I ultimately got lunch elsewhere. I've wanted to patronize and support this business nunerous times but I too often end up having to go somewhere else because they're not open at the time they have listed. But as I said, the food and service is great (typically) and if I could I would come more. *Edit in response to the business replying* The problem wasn't that I can't make your hours....the problem is that I came during the times you were listed as being open and you weren't...this has happened at least 2-3 times.

Turkey Wings / Honey Garlic wings … Mac and cheese and collard greens !! So good and everyone was so kind ! Food was definitely made with so much love . And I think it was the owner / chef … who offered me an extra Mac and cheese , it was end of the night and she just made a fresh platter . So grateful for such delicious food and hospitality. From Rochester NY traveling within the area so we decided to stop by. It was really delicious I got the Mac and cheese, Yams with BBQ meatballs. And everything tasted really good the lemonade was also great. Disclaimer they sell out fast we went around 330 and they let us know immediately there was a 40 min wait for Mac and cheese we waited because that's what we really wanted. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Be patient please I do recommend.

The food was amazing ! Stopped in and got fried shrimp with mac and cheese and string beans. And my friend got the oxtail and collard greens and the taste floored me on everything!! Crispy shrimp flavorful oxtail and the mac was to die for. I loved it all ! Definitely give the place a try if you’re in the area!

it has been a long time since i had soulfood this tasty. i purchased a to go order with smothered turkey wings, rice, mixed greens, mac & cheese and candied yams. oh and i forgot to add it was accompanied with a slice of blueberry sweet bread. all of the food was flavorful, seasoned well and delicious. i was there for a short 10 minutes awaiting my order and during that time everyone was so nice and showed amazing hospitality. i was even offered a drink on the house while i waited! i cant wait to visit again - i will be recommending to all of my family and friends. this is the kind of establishment that i love to patronize - keep up the good work guys!

Listen!! As a woman from the south, this restaurant definitely delivers southern flare. I have never in my life had cabbage like theirs! It was delicious! I also tried the macaroni, yams, and potato salad…and if you’re from the south, you will feel at home. Go for the oxtails and wings. You will not regret it.

I’ve lived in Newark all my life and saw this restaurant on TikTok. It was just as good as it looked. The owner was really nice and the food was fresh and fast and the closest thing to a home cooked meal I’ve had in a long time. I just say my food was very. Smothered Turkey wings, rice and gravy with Collards. I'm so use to collards with turkey meat in them. But these collards were good. I'm in love with the sweet blueberry corn bread Uma have to ask for an extra one next time. My daughter liked her meal, but she thought she was gretting regular cornbread as they Menu online says cornbread. I then said yeah maybe they should remove that part cause I see where My daughter thought regular cornbread is included when you look at the menus online versus when you enter the restaurant it says it the bottom if their handwritten easel sweet blueberry cornbread included in meal. Again they blueberry cornbread as a plus.

I always get Mac & Cheese and Candied Yams with Fried Chicken or Turkey wings and a Uptown. The food is delicious EVERY SINGLE TIME. There’s always a line outside with 10-20 ppl at least 30 mins before they open so get there early so you don’t end up in the back of the line. The wait isdefinitely worth it tho. There’s also a bakery next door with delicious cookies, cupcakes, banana pudding, etc.

Just happened to stumble across this gem while looking for a place to eat in the Downtown Newark area. Well let me tell y’all the food was soo GOOD! Cute little place plenty of parking and most importantly the staff was very welcoming! We ordered wings Mango Habanero and Lemon Pepper they were fresh fried to perfection and the flavors were ON POINT! The whiting and catfish sandwiches again fresh seasoned and TASY. Now for the main course we both ordered the oxtail dinner with Mac & Cheese Cabbage & Yams one word DELICIOUS! We had Uptowns as our drink if choice which also good. We had the opportunity to meet the Chef & Owner we couldn't stop raving about the food. Do yourself a favor and go visit Madre & Son you wont be disappointed!! See y’all soon

So mad I didn't take a picture but the food looked so good didn't want to waste time lol. First time going there and everything was great. I had the smothered turkey wings, macaroni and cheese and greens. Platters come with cornbread which is also amazing and not dry. They weren't open when I 1st got there but they are super responsive on IG and advised me when they will open. The dining area is also great and comfortable. Definitely recommend and will return to try more dishes!!

We were on hold for 40 minutes and decided to drive up to see if it was busy. There was one person in line.... THANKFULLY once I placed an in person order the food was made fast and it was SO GOOD! The food is AMAZING!!!!!! I went to the brunch that they have on Saturday’s from 1-7… I order the fish, eggs, and grits. I have been yearning for some good soul food. I promise you will not be disappointed from the food aspect. Somethings I would tweak. The flyer says reservation not required but recommended. So I played it safe and made a reservation. But when I got there the young lady couldn’t find the reservation… that made me a little uneasy but I stuck with it. I was seated and was brought out a pitcher of Mimosa ( which the flyer said bottomless) but the table next to me was told that it was 1 pitcher per table..I called the young lady over and explain to her what the flyer said and she explain there was a 2 hour window for dining (she clearly got annoyed with the question) but she bought out another pitcher .. I guess the one pitcher should have lasted for the 2 hour window. While sitting there I watched as the people came in and was asked if they had a reservation, those who didn’t have a reservation were turned away. I couldn’t understand why because it seemed like they had the space. The waiter was attentive making sure we were good. When it came time to pay we were asked to pay the tip in cash.. needless to say we didn’t have cash nor did the table next to us.. so we had to Zelle or cash app the tip… the waitress explained that if we left a tip on the check it would go to the kitchen and not the waitress .. never heard of this before but hey.. it is what it is. I am giving 5 star because the food was Excellent! I don’t want to take away from that.. I didn’t even think to take a pic.. ugh… oh and parking is horrible… there is no parking.
