The one and only halal Southern soul food & Caribbean spot in Brooklyn. Soul Spot’s serving size and its fall off the bone tender deliciousness has everyone coming back for more. From the moment you walk in the aroma hits you right away. From the oxtail, jerk chicken and bbq beef ribs everything was super succulent and very tender. Their candied yams had the perfect amount of sweetness. So many sides to choose from. Had to get their baked mac and cheese, sweet corn and mashed potatoes. The plating was A1. Can’t forget their corn bread with a side of their homemade ice teas! I’m telling y’all you can taste the love in each bite!

Star of the show is the lamb, it's fall off the bone tender, seasoned very well. Jerk chicken has a nice flavor without getting overwhelmingly spicy. Sides are all delicious. Only downside, mac and cheese is a bit too cheesy for my liking

My husband and I absolutely loved Soul Spot! The candied yams were amazing, the baked chicken fell off the bone, and the mashed potatoes might have just been the best I've ever had! Such a quaint little spot with delicious food. Highly recommend!

The food is simply amazing. Great soul food in the middle of downtown Brooklyn. The selection is extensive. From fried chicken, stew chicken, meatloaf, fried catfish, shrimp and so many other dishes. The string beans were amazing. Collards, yams and Mac and cheese were some of the other sides. The corn bread was amazing. The dining area is quaint for the mostly carryout and delivery spot. Carryout and deliveries were rolling out the door while I was there. I will go back for sure.

We tried a little bit of alot of different foods. We love that we could come to New York and find Halal soul food ♡ The food was good. Was I crazy about it and can't wait to go back, not really. But the food was good. Definitely worth trying! The oxtail is good, it has a little spice kick to it, the bbq chicken was ok, my friend had the baked chicken and ribs and said it was good. I think she enjoyed the food more than me. Now the mac n cheese, greens and yams, was really good. That's worth coming back for, if you come that's a must. Also, let me know what your favorite dish is if you go here!

I ordered a baked Salmon dinner and Salmon croquette dinner. I was charged for both. They did not put any croquettes in the dish and charge me full price. I had to call them back after reaching home and informed them. They refunded the charge of the meal but of course but the tax was not included. If I would have known the service would be so poor I would not have tipped. But since we all have been having a terrible time these last two years that is fine. May have been an honest mistake. In regards to the food, the flavor is excellent. I still will be returning. We all deserve chances to improve.

The food was good and the staff was friendly. I prefer actual shrimps compared to what they sell though. They do have good flavors and offer a wide variety of food. I would recommend them to everyone looking to grab a bite to eat while Downtown Brooklyn. Some days, however, they may not have what you want. Stew chicken isn’t always available which is a shame but go check them out.

This type of flavor does NOT belong in this neighborhood!! Good lord. I grew up eating all kinds of Caribbean food and this places smokes my mama. I even took her here and she loved it. They just redid the interior, but good to know the food has not changed! You can taste the love in every single bite. The chef is out of this world. Wish I could give more than 5 stars ⭐️

Everything was delish. Staff was friendly and attentive. They made sure we were vaccinated,as we were dining in. Also prices were great. We ordered a bunch of food and paid less than $50!!! We live in the Bronx but we will drive out to Queens for this fabulous little restaurant. If I had to complain about anything it would be the red velvet cake which was ok but not great. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience.

I’ve had quite a food soul food spots here in New York City, and this has been the best one so far! Every bit of the plate you could taste the love and care that went into the food, and that’s the most important ingredient in soul food, love! This food is also halal and contains no pork which makes it accessible to the Islamic community. I’m a chef from Kentucky so I know soul food when I see it, and this place embodies that taste! The yams tasted like candy bathed in butter, yet I could tell there wasn’t an unhealthy amount of sugar added to them, AMAZING! The curry goat was succulent and tender yet well flavors. The Mac and cheese, y’all the MAC AND CHEESE, was to die for. Best Mac and cheese I’ve had up here and closest to what I enjoy from home. The only dish I wasn’t too fond of was the peach cobbler, and really only because I make mine with more peaches and less crust.

They really don’t miss, I order like once every two weeks now. Mac is good, oxtail, jerk chicken, stew chicken, bbq chicken, fried chicken, greens, sweet potatoes, & desserts. I wasn’t a fan of the cabbage because it had mixed veggies and I’m allergic to peas but that’s just me. (I do think they should list ingredients- I’ve never had peas in my cabbage). And the drinks are sweet. Very much real soul food vibes.

I ordered via uber and was pleasantly surprised by the portions and flavor of the food. I got the BBQ chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The 3 pieces of chicken were a little on the dry side but the flavor was really good. The sides were absolutely delicious, literally some of the best sweet potatoes I've ever had and the Mac and cheese was way better than most other take out spots. The corn bread it came with was so moist and flavorful it didn't even need any butter or honey or anything. The slice of cheesecake i got wasn't anything too special, hopefully they will have the banana pudding next time so I can try it instead. I'll definitely be adding this place to my go to spots.

The Soul Spot had been around for years and the food is still really good. I ordered turkey wings with greens, candied yams, as well as mac and cheese. I'm not a fan of the mac and cheese at all, it wasn't very flavorful but the other menu items were delicious. In my experience eating at soul food restaurants, the food is often over seasoned. I appreciated that the greens, turkey wings and candied yams were flavorful but not overbearing. So I would definitely recommend trying the food here. If you are looking for a meal jam packed with flavors and seasoning, you should reconsider eating here. If you want good soul food without the excess oil, then give this place a try. Also, sometimes they give Yelp check-in specials.

I was searching for some good soul food in Brooklyn and I visited The Soul Spot (July 5th). The moment I stepped in I couldn't help but notice how clean the restaurant was even the back kitchen area was spotless(yes im nosey) lol. Anyways the 2 young ladies were so sweet and helpful! When I say that everything in the restaurant looked delicious I didn't know where to start and what to get 🤤. I ordered the fried chicken meal with Mac and Cheese and yams, then I seen the curry chicken and I had to order that too with the rice and peas and the Kool aid😂. They are not shy with their portions! As soon as I got to the car I busted open the containers and started throwing down!!😂 EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS FROM THE CORNBREAD, THE CURRY CHICKEN, THE YAMS, THE KOOL-AID, AND THE PERFECT CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN . (Mac and Cheese is very different its not nasty but you should ask to try it before ordering it) The food was so good I went right back in and ordered more fruit punch, cornbread and 3 more sides of yams. My aunt had the oxtail, the okra!!🤤🤩 and salmon and she was instantly in love! This is hands down some of the best food I've had in the city! I will definitely be back and will spread the word that this restaurant is a must go-to!! I can't wait to go back to try more and thank you to the young ladies who worked that afternoon you both made the experience memorable!

I've walked by this restaurant for the past decade and never stepped in because it's so inconspicuous. I honestly didn't know what kind of food they served. When another friend advised they have amazing halal soul food, I was sold. When I tell you this is the best halal comfort food I've had in NYC! The jerk chicken is delicious. I dream of the candied yams, creamy Mac n cheese, and the okra. The oxtail is great too! Most importantly, the girls are always SO friendly and helpful. I've ordered here on mealpal sometimes too and they always welcome me with a smile. The Soul Spot has now become a place I eat from twice a week. Highly recommend!

Delicious and satisfying. Had the oxtail with rice and mashed potatoes, came with a piece of cornbread which was like eating cake. They have 2 tables with 2 chairs each available for outside dining. The oxtail just melts in my mouth with dripping oil and curry- be careful when opening the plastic lid as it splat out. The rice was a good base, had some beans in there. The mashed potatoes were creamy. Tasted fresh and was a good temperature. Will be coming back to try more!

The food was delicious. Service was quick because they have the food already prepared buffet style. No long wait for them to cook it. The space is small but I was able to sit and eat because it was not crowded for lunch. You can place your order online before you arrive so it will be ready once you get here. They also deliver. I see a lot of other reviews say they only take cash but I paid with my debit card and had no issues. I ordered the lunch special of oxtail with two sides: mac n cheese and cabbage. the oxtail was tender and flavorful. So were the sides. The meal is $13.99 plus tax. So roughly $15. The staff was friendly and kind.

Vegetarian plate with big portions of 4 sides for 12.95 - amazing deal and delicious food. So rare to have so many vegetarian options to choose from and there's lots of actual vegetables, too. Three stars for the excellent staff; very helpful! This use to be my favorite soul food spot, and I decided to go back after almost a decade. The food wasn’t how I remembered; it was just ok! The baked chicken seemed old, tough, and overcooked. The catfish, greens, cornbread, rice, and peas were good. The coconut cake wasn’t good. It seemed very stale; it reminded me of old bread. Unfortunately, I will not return; I will keep my memories and carry on.

Heard so many good things about this place for years and finally decided to stop in on my way home. Ordered 3 plates; each has two pieces of chicken and comes with two sides. I picked jerk chicken and bbq chicken, along sides of mac & cheese, corn, okra, and rice with peas. Everything was hot, fresh, and very delicious. Meat was fall off the bone. Jerk chicken had a nice kick to it. My family enjoyed the bbq chicken. Kids gobbled up the mac & cheese. Will definitely come back in the future.

Perfect combination of Caribbean and soul food. Everything was very well done. The meat was tender spices were on point. The okra was my favorite. Lord have mercy! The staff was super sweet. I wish they had a little more space for sit down dining because it's so good you don't want to wait. Also it would and allow for them to have more than one server cashier to cut the line down. But I came during the lunch rush program. It might not always be that busy. Amazing, delicious and authentic. Make sure you get your cornbread!

Food was very mediocre despite the name. The staff was really nice, just not as tasty as I would have liked. For instance, who uses black eyed peas for their rice and peas 🤦🏽‍♀️ My friends were not happy with the turkey wings she ordered nor the boxed mashed potatoes served. The Mac and cheese wasn't the typical way black folks make it and the list goes on. Definitely no pictures. Although the salmon looked to be a great choice. That was enjoyed.

Whomever said the baked chicken was falling off the bone lied and never had proper soul food. The collard greens was the only thing I enjoyed. Mac and cheese was subpar. And the chicken seemed like it was boiled then baked? Where is the flavor in the chicken? Because it was lacking heavily.Mothers Seafood and More spot is better and seasoned.

The food, turkey wings and catfish were tasty, well prepared and plentiful. The grubhub service was horrible. I explained in the notes that I was in a wheelchair and if the driver would not come up he should call and give me time to come down. The driver refused to bring bag to building door and called me every minute in the ⁵ minutes it took me to take elevator down. Had they not already taken out the tip I would not have given one. It is not smart business to disrespect a wheelchair bound senior!

A cute hidden spot in Brooklyn. The food was amazing. The handmade strawberry lemonade is my favorite as well. I would just add ice to the drink so that it taste even better. But that's my personal preference. My son enjoyed the chicken. It definitely reminds me of southern soul food. It is a must try if you're in the area.

I got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese and let me tell youuuuuu. BEST MEATLOAF IVE EVER HAD. I ate it and just stopped thinking for a couple mins. And my mans upfront wad bumping the music. 8.5/10 for me

Just left here a lil disappointed. Read the reviews good and bad wanted to try myself. I agree with previous comment Mac and cheese runny and taste like it's powdered cheese. My main problem was what they called catfish. I waited the 8 minutes they asked for it to fry. However they didn't let the fish drain. Instead they placed a piece of wax paper over Mac and cheese and string beans and put fish on top. The oil created a puddle and made fish greasy and soggy. (Should have been separated to keep crispy.) Fish and string beans were seasoned well but messed up by the oil. Going into my bag to get a napkin I found hair in the bag and on the handle. Not sure where this came from server had on head cover and Im bald but ew. Overall not good experience.

The food was delicious, but I am deducting a star because none of the women who were handling the food wore gloves, and they were also handling cash and debit cards. I think one person should work the register and the others handle the food while wearing gloves. One young lady was scratching her head and then immediately made a plate for someone. It grossed me out, but like I said, the food was good.

Chef YaYa is doing the dam thing. Chef YaYa prepared food for my fight party that everyone enjoyed the food and still talks about the food. The homemade ginger beer is so tasty my guest was leaving the party with bottles of ginger beer to take home. Now Chef YaYa is preparing my pre Christmas get together and this time I'm hiding a gallon of ginger beer as well as his meatballs. My wife was telling me how delicious the food was. Drove 30 minutes to try out the food all while thinking it's probably hyped. I ordered jerk chicken with mash potatoes and mac and cheese. First off, the staff are always very kind and friendly!!! And now on to the food!!! The food is well seasoned and delicious. I've had the meatloaf, fried chicken, whiting and oxtail dinner before. I have to also say the portions are plentiful. I live in bklyn and while I don't get to the restaurant often, I make a stop on my way back from errands in the city. It's well worth it!!! Just made a trip on my way home today. Delicious food.

I bought $140 worth of food (8 meals) and 2 of the meals smelled like they were spoiled (Turkey wings, rice and corn). I am very far from the store and have to pay a toll to go back. They offered me a $5.00 credit for $30+ worth of spoiled food... Very bad customer service. I am rethinking about future patronage. I have pictures of the 2 meals in the trash if you think I am not factual. Update: The owner if the business has made good of the spoiled food and replaced everything plus added to it. My faith has been restored. The food is awesome!!!

This place is shockingly good! My family ordered takeout (smothered turkey wings, oxtails, fried chicken) and the main courses were delicious! Sides were just as great -- we tried the mashed potatoes (just the way grandma would have made them), peas and rice, mac & cheese (didn't look like much but tasted amazing), yams (so good!) and collard greens (best in town, not kidding). The portions were generous and the young lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy being there. We finished the meal with a slice of coconut cake to split. I thought it was going to be dry like so many before it, but nope -- moist and delicious. No question we will be back! Highly recommend.

I had a hard day of work today, and despite being a "good girl" on my diet the past few weeks, I was looking for something to satisfy my need for comfort. I've always passed Soul Spot, and never tried it, so I looked at the menu online and they had it all: I ordered fried whiting and fried shrimp, mac n cheese, rice and peas, a side of greens, and it came with a nice piece of corn bread to top off my meal. I'm a pescatarian and I do not eat beef, chicken, or pork. I called ahead to ask about food preparation and I was very pleased to hear that their collard greens and string beans (traditionally cooked with bits of ham) are made WITHOUT pork. Soul Spot is halal! Everything was so good.... so good, in fact, that I had to call back and personally THANK THEM for such a wonderful meal. I think there is a little something for everyone here - delicious food made with care, amazing portions for the price you pay, and nice flavor that vibes with the downtown Brooklyn scene. From the outside it looks kind of small, but don't let appearances deceive you. This is a place to be reckoned with! Thank you Soul Spot, and I look forward to dining with you again soon!

I really like Soul Spot. Nothing fancy: steam try soul food, some island things. But the food is good, the portions are large, and the prices are reasonable. It's a favorite stop for me when I need to pick up something for dinner on the way home from work. Try the fried chicken, then chicken-and-dumplings, and the meatloaf. Also the sweet potatoes and the collard greens.

I had the jerk chicken and oxtails, with the sides being rice and mashed potatoes. The chicken was well seasoned, and the combination of oxtail gravy with rice made the food well worth it. You may have to use your hands to enjoy the food properly, and given that the place does not have a restroom, you may need to plan on how you are going to clean your hands before going. The food here is also zabiha halal if you are into it.

Wonderful food! I honestly cannot tell you how amazing each bite was. It felt like it was truly made with care and love, as cliché as that may sound. A bit tight on space so I'd suggest going when they're not so busy(please refer to their hours to see which time is least packed for them) Aside from that, service was fairly quick. The food here is really good. Honestly, I get picky with Soul Food spots because it's the food I was raised on and quite a few restaurants haven't lived up to their hype. But, The Soul Spot is great quality when it comes to their meals. Oh, important: every time I come here, folks are consistently friendly! That means a lot for my experience as a customer. Their menu is a little more expensive than I would say is average for other Soul Food spots I've been to. Now I've established the food quality to be worthy of a higher demanding price, but usually, higher pricing also speaks to the quality of the restaurant experience right? The Soul Spot is really small. I appreciate that there is tabling in there, but unless you're reallyyy hungry & don't have somewhere else to immediately eat your food, it's always better to take your food to go. I've been there a few times over the span of about two years, and they still haven't tried to optimized tabling in the space. They really could use a little bit of redecorating help in there to build the space's aesthetic. This is why I've given it 4/5 stars.

I came here with my groupon and bought two dinner meals, one for me and one for my mom. We both had the jerk chicken and I ordered the yams and collard greens which were good. My mom had the okra with stewed tomatoes and potato salad which she loved. We both agreed the jerk chicken was just okay and the food portions were decent. Staff were okay and could've been a little more friendlier and at least smiled. I definitely wouldn't sit down for dinner here because it looks more like a take out joint or someplace where you want to grab a quick bite. I would return if Im in the neighborhood.

This place will will truly satisfy your soul food cravings! Came here for Iftar after praying in the nearby mosque and couldn't be happier we did so! So I tried the Jerk Chicken, which was moist and super delicious with the right amount of kick to it, meat falling off the bones mmmmmm!!! The mac and cheese which is definitely one of my favorites now and the rice and peas super delicious as well. I think I maybe a little obsessed with this place because its so good!!! I’ve eaten at Soul Spot a few times, both via GrubHub delivery and in-person ordering, and the food is outright delicious. I grew up in Georgia and in the last two and a half years of living in the Northeast, finding close to authentic Southern food is difficult. Soul Spot’s catfish, chicken & dumplings, collard greens and mac ‘n’ cheese are the real deal. The only issue I’ve ever had was a messed up order, but they honored it when I walked down to the store and explained. I would recommend this to all of Brooklyn to give a shot.

After living in the south for most of my life, I occasionally get cravings for southern food. Sure, fried chicken is now the "in" thing here in NYC, but what about collard greens turkey wings? Thankfully we have The Soul Spot. Normally I try to keep my lunches under ten bucks, but for $11-13, The Soul Spot will give you a plate piled high with your choice of meat served with two sides and a piece of cornbread. For the same amount of money at a place like Hill Country Chicken, you'd barely get half of the amount of food. I'm not knocking HCC, but the food-to-dollar ratio doesn't compare to TSS. Today my coworker ordered a side of mashed potatoes. The server used jerk chicken juices for the gravy and it was delicious. I've never tasted such flavorful mashed potatoes before. I will admit that I wasn't exactly wowed by their turkey, but all of their chicken (jerk, fried, etc) is on point.

My personal favorites are the jerk, bbq, or fried chicken, combined with the stewed okra and obviously the mac and cheese + cornbread. After a workout and a stop at soul spot your body will enter a spiritual/physical nirvana/comatose. Happy to have this restaurant close by.
