Reviews of Ba Xuyên

Delicious food, fast service and friendly staff. This is my third time since finding them last week. Can’t recommend them enough and great value for money.
I’ve had the number one, the tuna bahn mi, the escargot and fried noodles. The ice lemon pickle drink and Vietnamese coffee are great too. The lemon drink is sour and salty though so just beware it’s not for everyone. Everything has been so delicious.
lem nguyen
Very reasonable priced banh mi and Vietnamese coffee. I believe it is Vietnamese-Chinese owned. The uncle who works there that I talked to was very nice and friendly. He could have been the owner.
We got number 1 and number 8. Both were good. I have better Vietnamese coffee elsewhere but it is not easy to find great Vietnamese in NYC and it’s pretty good here.
We love to support local businesses and will come back here for Banh mi and coffee again.

I’ve eaten a fair number of banh mi sandwiches across Vietnam, and at most of the decent shops in NYC…and I can confidently say that Ba Xuyen wins for the best and most authentic banh mi sandwich in all of NYC. It is very much worth the trip to Sunset Park, and is a must have if you’re in the neighborhood. The baguettes that they use for the sandwiches are just heavenly fresh and crispy - so good that they retain their freshness for the next 1-2 days (so I’ll buy a few sandwiches to eat as my lunch the next day). The price can’t be beat — most sandwiches run from $6-7 each, and they are generous with portions and use fresh ingredients. I highly recommend #1 for the classic combination banh mi sandwich, and my wife loves #9 for the grilled chicken banh mi. The shop is very unassuming and the ladies preparing sandwiches behind the window are brisk but friendly, and they speak English. Tip them well and keep supporting this local gem. Businesses like these are what make NYC the greatest city to live in.

Been getting sandwiches and rolls for 12 years now. The quality is top notch. The service is wonderful. It is great to be recognized even when you no longer live a block away. The steamed rolls are fresh and the peanut sauce is second to none. When they are sold out. That's it. Make sure to get there early next time. The baguettes are all wonderful. I love the turkey and pulled pork ones. Also a nice cup of light coffee beats any chain coffee shop. Try the smoothies.i recommend the avocado one. Also the Vietnamese cookies are excellent and you won't be able to only have one.

Best banh mi in New York City - without a doubt. Very local feel with a charm to it
Nero L
$7 for an Authentic Bahn mi is good! Hard to find original ones like these in Queens. Too many fake barbeque ones or modern versions in NYC. This place makes the Bahn Mi simple and easy!!
Lucas Fenton
Some of the best Bahn Mi I’ve ever had. Lovely staff. Very neighborhood spot. Great coffee and shakes as well. I go once a week and it’s usually the highlight of my week lol. You don’t wanna miss out on this place!

Got a grilled pork and a grilled chicken sandwich. I took a few bites when it was fresh then saved it for later. The bread was amazing even after reheating. I've only been once years ago and it's still great. Also their hot milk tea's sweetness was well balanced, made with a Tetley tea bag. Will be my go to going forward. Staff can speak Cantonese. Cash only.

Had been coming to this place for many years. Their prices are unbeatable! Their #1 sandwich is what I get every time and their ice coffee. They always toast the bread to perfection, crispy the outside, soft the inside. The coffee I always get it with less sweet and more milk, they will make it perfect!
Jim Langdon
I've been eating these for around 20 years since they first opened. Myself and everyone I know who has tried it will tell you this shop makes the best Vietnamese sandwiches in Brooklyn. The bread is thin, soft and just crispy enough. A few reviews say otherwise; I'm unsure how to explain it other than they visited on a rare bad day? The owner is almost always there but occasionally she takes a day off.
To clarify to a reviewer, the owner is Vietnamese. She does know how to speak some Cantonese as many older Vietnamese immigrants do due to their proximity and trade with Guangdong.
Christopher Maynard
Had the number 8 sandwich today..grilled pork spicy. It was outstanding. Perfect amount of sweet and hot spices. Trust me go there!
Ale 1535
Awesome Ba. Just awesome. The tea and coconut drinks are delicious. Get some!

Had the first banh mi listed on menu. Pleasant staff and food was served super quick. Huge toasty warm baguette stuffed with cilantro, pickled carrot and daikon, ham, pork and pate for only $7. Generous portion size and tasty. The seafood noodle soup was kind of bland.
Wei Reng Mai
Been coming here for years now. This place makes a killer banh mi sandwich and ice coffee. My two combo orders when I visit. Also, their grilled pork & shredded pork with rice is good as well.
Shaa Khan
Got the chicken sandwich, it was with dark meat chicken and veg.not bad for 7.50 ,and don't forget Cash Only!!
John L
Excellent place for some Vietnamese sandwiches and rice bowls.

After hearing the review on youtube and others on google I decided to drive from Flushing to try. I have to say it did not disappoint, the viet sandwich and rice ball are amazing and price is great. Worth the drive! Less traffic on Sunday morning, their shop opens at 7am ans 7 days a week!
Katie
Have been stopping here occasionally for lunch when I wfh and it’s amazing every time. The bread is crispy on the outside, the veggies are crisp with a balance of vinegar
Those behind the counter are always so nice and make sandwiches quickly
They also have a good assortment of snacks around the shop to grab from
Sam Rodgers
Great Bahn Mi! Portion size is great and for only $7, it's a killer deal. The roast pork was delicious and the pickled vegetables had a great crunch too them. The iced coffee was very strong and sweet. Would highly recommend.
Little Runt
Simple sandwich but good and tasty. Not the usual ice coffee, it's Vietnamese style. I'll take one. Or, Avocado shake PLEASE!
Kelly H
Came here half an hour before closing to grab some banh mi. I ordered their number one with spicy while my sister got their number eight. The two ladies working here were very nice and they made the sandwiches and my thai milk tea very quickly 🙂.
The bread for the sandwiches were nice and crispy and warm/hot. The number one comes with different cuts of vietnamese hams, some grilled pork, cucumber, parsley, and pickled carrots&turnip. The number eight was the same but without the ham cuts. The "spicy" in my sandwich, or the jalapeno pepper slices, were somewhat spicy. (Guess it depends on ur luck in terms of getting spicy pepper versus non spicy ones lol)
Other than that they have around 6 tables for seating and other types of snacks available for sale too, like durian mung bean cake... etc. Very casual place to grab a quick meal.
Overall, it was a good experience 0w0. I probably will visit this place again 👍.
Robert Macro
Young hipsters happily wait in line to take orders to go for this well hidden gem in sunset park. Service with a smile . Immaculate kitchen. Ban mi at it's best. Avocado milkshake also a crowd pleaser. Look forward to my next visit.

Ignore Michael Pham’s 1-star review. His family owns a sub-par banh mi shop which is a competitor and he’s leaving poor review to help drive traffic to his family’s dying restaurant
By far one of the best banh mi’s in NYC. Worth the trip to Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
This place has the best bread. I recommended #1 or 4 but you can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches
Markus Kusano
Tasty bahn mi. I got the ham and pate one. All the ingredients worked well together and I gobbeled it into my gullet. The avocado shake really brings out the refreshing parts of an avocado and is delicious.
Gloria Trinh
Got the #1 from their sandwich menu & brought it home to eat. The bread was toasted nicely, just enough crunch for that nice bite, but soft enough so that your gums aren't ripped to shreds. Good balance of ingredients and not overly stuffed. I also grabbed a packet of nem chua (raw meat square looking things) and those things packed a kick. The spice intensifies if you are downing piece after piece in one sitting like I did, but these bite-sized squares are addictive.
Peter Tung
The Viet Sandwiches are fresh and good amount of meats. Its good value food located in the further end of 8th Ave Chinatown near 42St Brooklyn.
Gustav R
SANDWICH: Crunchy tasty bread, good ingredients, but not too flavorful, they are not bad either, this is a place i would come once in a while. the sandwich is as big as a foot long from Subways. Be careful and ask if its spicy if u cant take spiciness, Roast Pork had some slices of Jalapeño 🤧🤒😨 almost return it, but when i noticed it was just slices and i could remove, i was fine.
SERVICE: not too friendly, if u care about it, no, "hello!" Or "thank you" place is fairly clea and somewhat neat.
I would recommend this place...maybe.
They have my favorite soda!
Pearl Keng
Picked up Vietnamese coffee and sandwiches for 4 hour drive home. This place is open in the morning!! Sandwiches were fresh, nearly a foot long and delicious. The coffee was incomparable. This is an authentic, reasonably priced dive that should be on everyone's radar for great vietnamese food to go! It will be a standing visit for us from now on!!
S Chan
I used to come here as a kid. Lo and behold they are still open and their sandwiches are still just as good, and now better due to nostalgia.
The bread is crunchy and the filling is fresh! I don’t remember the cilantro, but it just madr it better!
Emmie Molina
I enjoy their food. It is very yummy for your tummy . The price has gone up but like everywhere. And the amount of food is just right for one person.
Leon Chan
One of my personal go to places when I want great sandwiches and other Vietnamese cuisine. This place use to be on 61st street back in the early 2000s. It used to be on the same block where Popeyes is now. I grew up eating their sanwiches. One day in 2006 they closed down their shop and a different banh mi place opened up and it just wasn't the same at all. The other Viet sanwich spots in Brooklyn (61st and 7th/ 57th and 8th) are all trash when you compare it to this place. The sandwiches are packed to the gills and only for $5 and they also have some of the best coffee. I finally found this place after about 8 years and I haven't gone anywhere else. Do yourself a favor, when you crave Viet sanwiches come here and get the #1 and get a ice coffee and see what this place can offer for under $8.
Edit- It's been over a year since my review and there have been new banh mi places popping up over Brooklyn, however they all still fall short when compared to ba xuyen. Ba xuyen is still the benchmark for all banh mi places and still will be the go to spot for your viet sandwich cravings.
ron ben henry
There may have been times in your life when you thought the Banh Mi sandwich you ate was delicious, and you TRULY thought you had something special...but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about until you have eaten one from this restaurant. I feel bad for you.
Dankie
Nothing has changed about this Banh Mi place. It used to be around 6.50 for a sandwich, it's just 7.50 right now! Very worth the price, try a vietnamese sandwich there.
Evan Kato
A neighborhood icon, worth the journey from any of the boroughs. There really isn't another place you can get an authentic bánh mì for $6. Don't forget to grab spring rolls and a milk tea and sit in Sunset Park.
John
The place is a hole in the wall but the sandwiches and everything else we had was delicious. It’s a great lunch spot. I highly recommend it.
Emily Qin Zheng
I like the durian shake..smaller version would be nice. The banh mi was good but the bread was kinda hard. I’m not a cilantro fan tho so heads up banh mis have cilantro😅
Stephanie Maharaj
Best part of the sandwich was the veggies. It was crisp, fresh, and flavorful. The bread was the second shining star. The meat was the least favorite part.
Lynn Cheung
Best Vietnamese sandwich and avocado shake 😍😍😍 the lAdies working the front are always sweet! …
Bryan Nguyen
Cash only joint with awesome banh mi and off menu items. I will have to try the coffee next time! Definitely coming back again to purchase banh mi and other goodies.
Yvonne meets Food
The best banh mi in NYC! Been going here for 13 years and still nothing comes close. It’s the closest baguette to what I’ve had in Vietnam: crisp on the outside but light and airy on inside. The number 1 banh mi is the most like what you can get on the street in Vietnam with all the fixings: it’s really the most balanced sandwich in the world with a little sweet, salty, spicy, acid from
The pickled daikon and carrots, and super fresh. Their selection of shakes are great, too: I love the fresh fruit and creaminess of their jackfruit, durian, avocado, and papaya shakes. In addition, their Vietnamese snacks and small bites are authentic and delicious!!
Eli E. Manning
Delicious sandwiches at this Sunset Park institution! At $5 it's an incredible deal for the quality and fresh bread. Highly recommend stopping by even if it's out of the way - it's worth it and your taste buds will thank you
Nisa
Best Banh mi and avocado shake in NYC. They put the most fillings in their banh mi compared to any other place I've ever been to. They also hollow out the baguette to make room for more goodness.
They also have a small breakfast menu with bagels and cream cheese.
If you're not in the mood for banh mi, they also have lunch boxes with a grilled chicken leg that's absolutely huge or with shredded pork (can be a bit dry.) They also serve pho, but I've never tried it.
Their avocado shake is also amazing and everyone I've ever recommended it to have become hooked on it.
Trung Tieu
Delicious and authentic banh mi and awesome egg rolls!
JayW32
This is one of the best vietnamese bun. The thai tea and coffee is highly recommended. The cold dishes on the side and the shrimp rolls are also a hit.
Johnny L
The sandwiches are good. It just missing something. I still prefer Banh Mi Saigon sandwiches in Chinatown.
Zuleika Holt
Authentic, yummy food for extremely reasonable prices. Only reason not 5 stars is a bit skimpy on meat. But enough veggies to make up for it.
P Hu
Got the Vietnamese cold cut ,thick slice of Vietnamese salami, pork roll and head cheese .I’m not really into a sandwich packed with meat, it was perfect for me, nice balance of pickles , pate and mayo.
They do add a spicy sauce, I guess it’s they “secret “
Bread was crispy outside and soft inside but not as fluffy as a usually banh mi.
Probably the cheapest house special banh mi at $6
Cash only
Tom Beaver
Definitely the best Bahn mi I've had in New York, which is really saying something. The sandwiches are pretty cheap and filling. I've had both the #1 and the shredded chicken, both of which were great. Highly recommend!
Beauty House
pretty good food. not the best but definitely still yummy. it’s a small local spot but definitely stop by!
Li Marcus
A casual Vietnamese noodle place I've been visiting for countless of times
L H
I’ve been coming here for years. Staff is always friendly, and store front is pretty much no frills. Sandwiches are very affordable - $6 for a delicious sandwich is still a thing! My favorite is the #6. It’s seasoned shredded chicken with pickled veggies, Mayo based spread topped with cilantro. Always hits the spot. I also recommend their cold Vietnamese coffee. Egg rolls and dessert dishes are also available. They also have prepackaged rice and noodles dishes on the side. They can get pretty busy during lunch time so I suggest calling ahead and placing your order. They are cash only so just make sure you bring enough $ lol
Additionally, you can ask for extra meat or extra veggies but know that there is a surcharge of about $1 more.
David Li
The sandwich #1 is very recommended. I’ve been eating it for few years. The only problem of this store is most of the time if you have anything you don’t want on your sandwich. You tell them but they forgets. Almost all the time.
Ben Nguyen
Love their banh mi. All of them are good. Avocado smoothie is delicious too
Jeffrey Ling
Best banh mis in NYC. Great iced coffee and smoothies too.
Mlisse
The best bhan mi I’ve ever eaten! Very flavorful with generous portion. The Vietnamese iced coffee was also excellent
Daniel Kadyrov
Wow. This was a great bahn mi sandwich. I got the #1 which is mixed pork (roast, bacon, etc). Super delicious. Also got a Vietnamese style coffee.
So tasty and ate it with an amazing view in sunset park.
Chun Chan
Great sandwiches, they also have rice and some other dishes. I recommend the sandwiches the most and the spring roll. The rices are just okay as the pork or chicken is kind of dry.
Cynthia H.
I absolutely love this little restaurant! The grilled chicken banh mi sandwich with spicy sauce is a amazing. The toasted butter bread is the perfect taste and texture which complements the tasty chicken and veggies. Also if you want some strong brewed Vietnamese coffee, this is the go to place. It’s always a treat coming here!
Kevin Tran
A really well established local eatery in the heart of sunset park. The prices on the banh mi (vietnamese sandwiches) are hard to beat and often if not always a better bang for your buck. I would recommend the vietnamese coffee to any coffee lover, for $3.25 it'll put a pep in your step for that mid day pick-me-up.
Ahrilia I. Skye
Their Banh Mi sandwitches are great. I've been ordering lunch from them every week for 15 years. I've never been dissatisfied. 😁 …
Tam Le
Good food. All VIETNAMESE and AMERICAN as well
Ilya Shnayder
My absolute favorite hole in the wall for Banh Mi sandwiches in Brooklyn. The owners are so nice, they always have a smile on their face, it's a real treat to come here. You can ask for extra meat on any sandwich for just an extra dollar, totally worth it. Their Vietnamese coffee is great too.
Brendan Healey
I really wanted to love this place. Everything would indicate I would. It fell short. Ordered the classic #1. Bread is really solid, but the sandwich was not filled. It was mostly bread. Papaya Shake is decent. Banh Mi Saigon and others rank higher for me.
Alan Lee
This place offers value and good sandwiches to this community. Highly recommended.
Leon “Edwins” Heart
The customer service is great. The cost is super low. The flavor was lacking. The food was ok but not delicious. Perfect spot if you just want food but want to avoid flavor.
Nicky Chan
Iconic place in the neighborhood. Worth traveling for. Definitely the best. #1, 3, 6, 8 and avocado shake are really good
BKLYN NYC
We have been coming to this place for years the food is so consistent and delicious. By far the best Bahn mi We have had and have tried them all over the United States at least. Really nice people family run business always clean fresh and delicious. They deserve your business
S W
The Bahn Mi are so fresh and delicious here!
Yuki J
Tried sandwich #1, so good! Bread was perfectly fresh and crusty and lots of pate. Service was super fast too, and they have lots of random yummy snacks like jackfruit chips.
Kevin Eng
Overall great Bahn Mi sandwiches for the price of $6, but I just wish it had more filling/meat. Vietnamese shops in Manhattans Chinatown charge a dollar or two more but their bahn mi's are filled more.
Jacqueline Horani
This place has the best Vietnamese sandwiches I have ever had in New York. The noodle soup is okay but I wouldn't recommend it. Get the number 8 sandwich (grilled pork) and some hot tea with milk and sugar and you'll be plenty satisfied!
Lieu Bou
I like this place because it doesn't take long to get a vietnamese sandwich to go. I use to wait so long to get a sandwich in a vietnamese restaurants because of all the people who dine in and takeout cuss they ordered noodles and some other stuff. Here they just specialize in sandwich. It's like a vietnamese Subways fast food, but better. I travel across Brooklyn to this place. Awesome place.
Stephanie Ha
I like the vietnamese sandwiches here. It taste a lot better than the ones from restaurants
Yelena Shur
The meatball sub was magnificent, and the avocado smoothie was one of the best things I've ever tasted. I first went to this restaurant about 5 months ago, and have been craving the avocado smoothie ever since.
The one negative thing I have to say- I specifically asked to have my sandwich without cilantro, yet received it with cilantro. Otherwise perfect!
Allen Soohoo
I've been going here for over a decade. Still the best viet sandwich place in NYC. I tell lots of friends about this place and no one disagrees
M
Good Vietnamese sandwiches, that’s what you get here.
Kha Hoang
The best Vietnamese Sandwich in NY, why because it's made by real Vietnamese not by any other ethnic groups. Not only sandwiches, but they also have delicious daily dishes, there's one that has rice vermicelli, pork, beef, pickled veggies and fish sauce, awesome! They have spring rolls that are tasty, have the desert of black eye peas with rice pudding and coconut milk, incredible. A tiny little place, but that's where the best foods are usually located. Will go back and try other dishes, had the Vietnamese ice coffee as well, you will be awake for 24 hours! You can sit in to eat, they have about 5 little tables.
Drew Beresford
This place is awesome. The banh mi are always served on fresh baguette, a light, doughy, humid bread beneath a crispy crust. These are what keep bringing me back. The Vietnamese coffee is good too. Also amazingly cheap, which is nobody's complaint. They sell Vietnamese snacks and desserts ready-made for takeaway, which I didn't try but that seemed popular because several other customers bought some. The atmosphere offers not much to speak of, and the bathroom (in the dark basement on the far side of the building from the stairs) required an arduous and transformative journey to reach. Still, even if it's a little out of your way, it's worth going to.
Donald Ye
Best Vietnam style Breads, crunchy, fresh, tasting better than breads from other dairy stores. I always buy some home whenever I visit Brooklyn. Customers are not just Asian but also other ethnicities.
Mary Yu
I am obsessed with viet sandwiches and have tried many highly rated places. This spot is my ultimate favorite. I usually judge the sandwiches by their #1 original but it’s mediocre. Get the #8! Grilled pork/pate/peanuts. Yum. Oh and their shrimp summer roll is unique in that it has shrimp and pork
Phoebe Chung
best bahn mi in brooklyn. daily specials also are amazing. no words, just grab a sandwich and a milk tea and stroll the park. you won't be disappointed. enjoy :)
David W
Bahn Mi's and Rice dishes are so good that I would visiting almost everyday if it was more convenient for me to get to. They're bahn mi's are good, but the Chicken & Rice is what really draws me to this place. I also discovered the Avocado Smoothie there. I'm amazed their prices remain so low for so long and hope that continues. Even if their prices goes up, they are still up there with the best Bahn Mi's and chicken rice.
Jen
Amazing food, fast service. They make the sandwiches in front of you too!! Their bread is my favorite item.
hiker ponc
Their spring rolls and BBQ pork sandwiches are good. I love the jackfruit shake. The summer rolls are okay. Fast and friendly service. The green pepper in the rice and cold noodles dishes are jalapeno, not bell pepper.
Nan Carde
I've tried the avocado, lychee, and strawberry milkshakes. The first two were great, worth ordering again and again. The strawberry milkshake didn't taste much better than what I could make at home. Many people praise the sandwiches here and I ordered the bbq pork sandwich. After two bites I knew it wasn't a winner - it tasted like aged bologna. This is small place, there are handful of tables, and the staff is cheerful and speedy.
Jerry Dinsmore
I'm currently sitting in Ba Xuyen writing this long overdue update, after inhaling yet another phenomenal banh mi. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I've been back at least once or twice a week since I first discovered it two months ago. Each banh mi has been consistently incredible. PERFECTLY toasty bread and each overfilling with protein, whichever you decide. I've tried the classic pork, grilled pork, grilled chicken and meatball -- incredible, x4. Oh, the iced coffee is great too.
Excellent and quick service. The ladies are super pleasant.
Did I mention that I love this place? I love this place (I love this place(I love this place.)) No place compares. Also, I love this place.
And now, the sweaty uphill trek back to work!
Erin Hadley Ginocchio
The Banh Mi is legendary, but everything is delicious. A No.1 with an avocado shake is heaven. Order anything and everything. The prices are amazing and the food will not disappoint. FYI: no delivery, and they close at 6pm or so.
Joyce Meng
The most amazing Vietnamese sandwiches in the city! We will walk 1+ hour to come here for the most delightful meal. Crunchy bread, perfectly seasoned vegetables, tasty savory meats...perhaps our favorite place in the entire city!
Michael Nguyen
This place serves up very tasty traditional Vietnamese food and fruit shakes at very reasonable prices. I had the pork chop, shredded pork skin, pickled carrots, salad and rice with fish sauce (which is not on the menu and I found out was available after asking if there was any rice dishes available). It was delicious! The strawberry shake was also very tasty.
Ory Baum
Best Vietnamese sandwiches I found in NY. Competes with some of the best bahn mi I’ve had in Vietnam. Friendly staff, quick service... milk tea, Vietnamese coffee, and avocado shakes are all great as well.
John Coates
Awesome bhan mi at great prices! The folks running this joint are also gems.
Morris Logsdon
I've been coming here for years! While the prices have been raised, I will continue giving Ba Xuyen my business. It's honestly one of the very few authentic Vietnamese spots that I enjoy. The women & owner are extremely welcoming, and speak English, Vietnamese, and Chinese. I'm not sure why someone mentioned that this is a Chinese owned business.
I generally only get the no. 1 banh mi and a variety of their drinks- I can't really speak on anything else. It's also greatly appreciated that they have a selection of Vietnamese snacks that you can't find anywhere else around the area. Not the cleanest or fanciest place to dine in, but definitely a place to visit.
Ronald Chan
This is my weekly-weekend to go spot. I grab a sandwich from them all the time. They're all good and ask for spicy if you like spicy.
I like the grilled chicken sandwich(spicy). Their spring rolls and roasted peanuts are also good. If you like strong coffee they make du mont coffee w/ condense milk and it is really really good.
Great price, great food, great service. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Jake Pham
I've been going here for years. I always try the new banh mi shops opening up in Park Slope. But I always seem to come back to Ba Xuyen.
This shop is mostly to go so have that in mind. The sandwiches are also cheapest at $5 but equal or more to the value of the gentrified sandwich shops.
The classic and the grilled pork are good. The grilled pork is made with lemongrass so if your not a fan, don't go for that.
Lastly, if you're ever going to have a banh mi party, if you buy 10, you'll get one free.
Y & C
Best banh mi in new york city by far - been going there for 10 yrs even though it is a long subway ride. It is worth it!
Gloria Kim
I had this place bookmarked for the longest time and thank god my bf finally took me here!!
I've heard so many good things about their Banh Mi sandwiches and I've tried Joju in Queens but Joju does not come close to Ba Xuyen.
Their Banh Mi sandwiches are amazing. The bread is so crunchy yet soft, and they did not skimp on the cilantro or the pickled veggies in them OR the meat!
The sandwiches are affordable. For a whole sandwich, it is only $5!!!
I honestly cannot say anything else about this place but how great and delicious this place is. I cannot wait to come back and try some more!!
Kaspars Misins
Super good banh mi and Vietnamese coffee 👌👌👌 …
Dion
Awesome Viet sandwiches. My favorite spot. Very good iced coffee!!
Robert Fitje
The bread is a light but crispy cloud that is the perfect vessel for the meat and veggies it chuffors into your mouth. I can put 3 of these bad boys down if I really wanted to. Left of the counter is a little glass case containing spring rolls, grab a few of those as well. Also not on the menu is an insane bowl of noodle soup.
Jeffrey D
Great place that specializes in banh mi sandwiches. Always good for a quick bite and delicious coffee. They also offer other foods such as spring rolls, summer rolls, noodle dishes etc.
Jen Sze
One of the best and most affordable bahn mi in NYC. The avocado shake is also a must have! The place is small, but neat with friendly staff.
George Zhang
Best bahn mi in sunset. They let you call ahead which is great if you need something quick to go. If a guy picks up though, call back and try to get one of the female workers. He never puts my order through so when I get there, they have no idea I ordered ahead.
Frank Filogamo
This is my favorite place to get Viet sandwiches in NY. They have a simple menu but everything on it that I've tried has been great. Unlike most NY eateries, their prices are low and you get a good amount of food for the process you pay.
Kevin Wu
This is probably the best banh mi in ny. The bread is perfect - like a French baguette except not hard and perfectly toasted and warm. Their banh mi (#1) has a more traditional flavor than Baoguette's, and everything tastes fresh and executed perfectly. Their grilled pork (#8) was also amazing - some secret sauce or veggie or flavoring in there, SO good. Not sure which I liked more. The shredded pork (#3) was pretty bad (all vermicelli inside and weirdness, no meat hardly) - we more or less threw it away (not a big deal at 4.50 a sandwich - I know I know (baller). I wouldn't come here regularly bc it's sort of far, unless u couple it with an exploration of the nearby Brooklyn Chinatown. This place is old school and traditional not fancy. Tip: they close early for dinner (think 6:30).
Johnny G
Best bahn-mi sandwiches in NY! This hole in the wall Vietnamese sandwich joint represents how true authentic bahn-mi should be made. Not so friendly neighborhood. Takeout is recommended.
Ron Lai
I've had their banh mi sandwiches many times, and have to give you my honest assessment. It is the best traditional banh mi in NYC. If anything you simply have to try it if you're in this neck of the woods. Take some cha gio (spring rolls) with you too. They're 50 cents a piece. As far as seating, there's quite a few for your lunchtime needs, but if you're pressed for time, you can always take it to go like many do. They have vietnamese coffee too, using Cafe du Monde grounds for making the drip coffee concoction along with condensed milk. You have to try that at least once because you will be hooked.
Cory Bond
The sandwiches here are delicious and cheap! I think the crunchy bread and generous portions are the best. Really worth going to if your in the neighborhood.
Garden State Shake
I love this place. My favorite is Sandwich number 1. I highly recommend also ordering the Avocado shake (real avocado used) with the sandwich. Service lady is very nice.
Mariya Mindyuk
Great viet sandwiches and the price is nice too. The menu also includes lots of other selections. There are plenty of tables to stay and the atmosphere is pleasant. Definitely a recommended spot for anyone who likes vietnamese sandwiches.
Waley Zhang
Great place to have lunch. Good price (usually around 4-6$), good food, and amazing service. Everything on the menu is amazing, but my personal favorite is the BBQ sandwich.
Betty Ramos
Very good treatment of customers and eager to please
Athena Chang
I traveled from Manhattan to 8th Ave for this famous sandwich place. It is clean, simple and sends off aromatic fragrance of Vietnamese cuisine. I am here to seek their Banh Mi and my mission was complete with satisfaction.
The banh mi is $4.5 each, which is about as much as that in the city. We got the number 1, which is the pate with ham and pickles sandwich. The baguette is toasted to just crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The spicy sauce is creamy and hot. The combined sensation of spiciness, warmth and juiciness and freshness all at once.
The bread is definitely better than Banh Mi Saigon because they still grill your sandwiches when you order instead of mass producing them and keep them on the stand-by.
I just wish it is right by my house! I could eat this all day long with that aromatic Vietnamese coffee!
Shane T. Barclay
My favorite sandwich in NY. The #1 classic Banh Mi is the best but also BBQ pork is really good. Really anything on that bread is good.
Alex P
The avocado shakes here are ridiculously good!!
Jeffrey Weber
My favorite go-to spot for the freshest bahn mi sandwiches and strong iced coffee. My favorite is #8... Spicy? Absolutely. ( It's not so spicy.)
Galen Caughron
Great Viet sandwiches at great prices, I haven't had much else. Otherwise, it is not a particularly clean or appetizing place, usually just grab my sandwich and go.
Ammy Man
Great place and great prices with some of the best vietnamese bread I've ever had. Try their smoothies (especially the papaya one) , its my favorite!
Andrew Lee
Not the most authentic but delicious nonetheless. They're a bit heavy handed with the pate but toasted bread, pickled veggies, and meats are hard to beat.
Deana Conner
I cannot say enough great things about the food here. I just got back from Vietnam and was really missing the food. Especially Banh Mi. This probably was the best I've had. I had the #8 which I did not want to stop eating.. I wished I wasn't so full because I could have just kept ordering.. Lol service was very friendly as well. Highly recommended!!!
Andy Van Dinh
Friendly people. Great prices and really good food. The banh mi bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and was the best banh mi bread I've had in New York. I'm def going back again and again and again
Ricky Mau
For genuine and delicious Vietnamese Banh Mi (sandwich). There is just no other that can be as delicious as this place. They even got recognized by village voice for being the best. There are a couple of other Vietnamese sandwich shops within the area, one is on 8th and further down. Run by non Vietnamese and can't make a decent sandwich if their life's depends on it, just pure embarrassing. The other is on 7th Ave and 61st. Even though they are Vietnamese, their sandwiches are inferior when comparing with this place. As the matter of fact, I've been there and all their Vietnamese food including their coffee are inferior when compare with this joint. Ba Xuyen first started at a hole in the wall on 7th/61st, they were always busy because they were just that good. But they got their rent raised by the landlord, who notice their business was doing great. So they moved when lease was up to 44 and 8th. Take my advise, if you want a delicious Vietnamese sandwich. You can't do wrong coming here. Speaking as a half Chinese half Vietnamese, been eating Vietnamese food all my life. Enjoy and don't forget to try their Vietnamese coffee and Vietnamese eggroll.
Irene
Food is always to the point. Love their Viet sandwich, bread is toasty and they are generous with their ingredient. Price is reasonable
Kit Kat
Their Vietnamese coffee will put hair on your chest! But sooo delicious! The hot soy on tap is an added bonus.
George Lafon
I came here because I heard there was some shop in this area that made great viet bread. After eating it, I figured it wasn't that great. Pretty average. I've had nicer ones. But they seem to have other food too so I wouldn't say it's a bad place.
Anna Noi
I relocated. I miss this place! They make the best sardine banh mi!! They are very nice. Will definitely swing by when I visit NYC.
Dave Meketansky
Very good (authentic) bahn mi but another major plus is that they often have extra dishes that they'll make in limited quantity. I was SO EXCITED to find cao lau -- definitely one of my all-time favorite dishes that's sadly rare to find outside of vietnam.
Jacky
Prices raised $0.50. #1 is now $5.50.
Excellent place for $5 bahn mi. Much better than the ones made at Viet restaurants. Buy 10 get 1 free. Cash only. No bathrooms.
Ker Thao
Love, love, love this place. Super good food at super affordable prices.
Ricky Long
Recommended by a friend. Amazing sandwiches for a great price. Haven't tried the noodles yet. Will update my review once I do.

Tin Nguyen
OMG...The sandwich is by far the best i have eaten...the bread is crunchy but not too hard...the meat is not cold meat and the sauce is full of flavor...make sure you finish with a bubble drink...
Ash Young
$6 for a roast pork bahn mi, very yummy. wish there were more fillings.
Sofia Rose
Roast pork sandwiches: omg so good. Taro shakes: amazing. Desserts with glutinous rice flour: delicious.
Eric Chan
Their Vietnamese sandwiches and shakes are the best combo, and their milk tea has a deep herbal flavor, which is uniquely different from the other bubble tea shops around Eighth Avenue.
Gunther Johanson

One of the best banh mi's I've had in New York to date, and the avocado shake is amazingly good.
The Corcoran Group
Unoficially, they’re the “Kings” of Banh Mi – better than everything in Chinatown. You can’t go wrong with any choice – try the Banh Mi with meatballs.
P. LaPiedra
The best Vietnamese sandwich I had ever try. The #1 is my favorite, and the ice coffe OMG speechless..
Eric Malone
I would say that this place is just okay. Not the best Banh Mi I have ever had, but not the worst. I actually really like the bread that they use.

The coffee... You haven't had real coffee on the east coast until you've had actual viet coffee. And afaik only ba xuyen makes it as good. On the west coast, there's Lee's but that's west coast. Been going to this place since the old location as a kid. Can't beat the taste.

Always my go-to spot for bahn mi. I still believe this is the best bahn mi place in NYC. The ladies are always super nice and quick. 2023 pricing ~ $8.50
monicaa
$6 for 3 nice sized shrimp and pork summer rolls. I had a large order and asked if they could also make pork only, and veggie only summer rolls and they were very helpful. A little disappointed that the veggie ones only had scallions and lettuce with the rice noodles, was hoping there would be carrots or cucumber too
Karen Leu
Very good banh mi!
George
No frill, no thrill neighborhood eat for authentic Vietnamese food. Tables available for self help eat in.
Hector Chang
cash only; some tables inside; you can order in english, mandarin, or cantonese and im assuming probably also vietnamese.
i got the bahn mi #8, and the ice lemon tea (#4 on the drinks menu) and it was $11. both tasted really refreshing, and i waited about ten minutes total on the line and for the food. definitely recommend!!
Christina Zeng
No idea how this place has a score of 4.6. The food quality is poor and the protein portions are small, compared to any other Asian neighborhoods, the product is nothing impressive at all. We also found a bug within the grill pork sandwich, it was refunded.
