Recommended as a local place to have soul food and we were not disappointed. You can eat as much as you want and we did not leave hungry. Tried a little bit over everything... chicken, catfish, ribs, potatoes, beans, collard greens, corn, biscuits, gravy, hush puppies, lasagna, etc. Good lemonade and sweet tea and unsweetened tea, depending on your preference. The fish was really good. So was the corn pudding. And do not miss the apples over the biscuits. Amazing. Finally, homemade banana pudding too.

As other reviewers have shared this is a Nashville quintessential spot! This is an all you can eat family style restaurant located in a quaint neighborhood. We went on a Saturday for lunch and only had to wait about 20 mins to get seated. The menu consisted of fried chicken, meatloaf and ribs, biscuits and the best cornbread, corn pudding, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet peas, fried apples, peach preserves, pickled beets, coleslaw, gravy and banana pudding...I'm sure I forgot something but there's lots of good Southern comfort selections 😊. Our waiter was really attentive and made everyone at the table feel welcomed. I would definitely go back! The sign says it all...Enter as strangers--leave as friends! Just a little warning: parking is on the street (very little) or in a paid lot...OR be prepared to walk a few blocks over to it, but the neighborhood is so nice so you shouldn't mind!

All you can eat buffet served family style where plates are passed around. Really recommend the fried chicken, corn pudding and corn bread! Would love to come for breakfast. It was a great atmosphere, but not the best decision during COVID times to have different parties sit at one table.

I had a fantastic time at Monell’s. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I was there first thing when they opened and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcomed me as if I had known them for years. You are seated with strangers, so it might not be for everyone. However, I lucked out and sat with some lovely folks for our meal. Back to the food - everything was yummy and the chicken they served was one of the best I’ve ever had. Would definitely come back again.

Love monells. I have been going for years and it hasn’t changed one bit. Such a unique dining experience that you wouldn’t expect. No menu, just passing around big servings to take/pass what you want. Sit at a big table with people you know (and don’t) and get to know everyone over the meal. Get there early, it’s popular! But definitely a spot to not miss when visiting

The food was above average and the communal dinner process was refreshing. We had fellowshipped with families from California and Ohio. The conversation was entertaining and the service was pretty good. The peach preserves, sweet tea, sawmill gravy, and mac and cheese were well above what you expect to receive out in the streets. It's a beautiful place to enjoy some southern cooking and meeting new people. Love the family table style. The fried chicken was moist but needed a little more flavouring. The sides were good, corn casserole, mashed potatoes, fried apples. Corn bread & biscuits were good. Coleslaw was delicious & loved the pickled cucumbers too.

Highly recommend this Family style breakfast . The food served is fresh and delicious and authentic southern food. Please go empty stomach if you want to enjoy this. Right from the fruit tea, corn pudding , biscuit, fried chicken , brisket , cheesecake , pork and many more items , everything is amazing . Enjoyed the experience of sitting on the table with strangers and sharing the items. The price is a little steep at 25 dollars for a Sunday meal but the experience is worth it.

This is BY FAR one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. I went here for breakfast with friends. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and was also sat almost immediately. It’s family style dining and service so our waitress explained what was on the menu and before she left the table, the first order or freshly baked cinnamon rolls and biscuits were being placed in front of us. I had a party of 4 and there was already another group of individuals sitting at the table. Not only did I get amazing food, I was able to e have with some other tourists and locals! If you’re debating on where to eat for breakfast, look no further. This will not disappoint. The meal was so good, I didn’t even take a photo of my plate! It wasn’t until I left the restaurant that I thought to snap a photo. If you’re here to enjoy the nightlife and your schedule is abnormal, worry not as this place also serves a midnight meal from 12 am -3 am (Saturday night to Sunday morning).

First time ever eating at a family style restaurant, at man this is somwhere I'll never forgot. It's also all you can eat! Everything was sooooo good, and there was so much they brought out. Couldn't believe how much I was eating at 11am! I will definitely be coming back here if I visit Nashville again.

This place was recommended by a coworker, and I'm so glad I went. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming. The family style dinner idea reminded me of Thanksgiving with my family making sure we pass everything to our left. I was seated with several others kind souls, and we were told to "pace ourselves because it's gonna be alot of food". All the food was great and so tasty. Staff was very polite. Overall I would so go back and definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Amazing breakfast experience! You sit down with total strangers and leave with friends. Great conversation through the table. Amazing & delicious food. Breakfast was fried chicken, scrambled eggs, bacon, glazed ham, sausage, corn puddin, potatoes, glazed apples, pancakes, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, coffee, sweet tea, unsweetened tea, orange juice and water. Refills are quick! Staff is super friendly and quick to meet your needs. Just an amazing breakfast experience. A must if you are coming to Nashville!

This place is definitely an experience. They have specific breakfast, lunch and dinner times. It's all you can eat but you sit family style with other guests. It's a great way to get to know people and have conversations with strangers. Phones are not allowed go be used at the table. The food was delicious, we had a traditional southern dinner that had plates from fried chicken, pulled pork to potatoes, greens, banana pudding, etc (wide selection). You pass the dishes one way to other guests and take what you want to eat that way (just as if you're a family!) The drinks were good, we had lemonade, water, unsweet and sweet tea. I go here everytime I'm in Nashville.

Monell's is a must visit just for the atmosphere and experience alone. Understand that "family style" means just that. You're sitting at a large 12 table top as a family with other families. Like I did, use that time to disconnect, speak, and share with others. Service was phenomenal, with food coming before you could request more. The amount of food is also unbeatable for the price. The night I went, the menu consisted of fried chicken, roast, stuffed spinach shells, turnip greens, green beans, mashed potatoes, corn pudding, beans, coleslaw, cucumber salad, biscuits, corn bread, peach preserves and chocolate lasagna for desert. Some items were better than the others, but decide for yourself. My favorites, hands down, were the chicken, coleslaw, biscuits, and peach preseves.

This spot is Nashville quintessential! They usually combine different groups to fit a long table, food is served in generous portions in family style. We had lunch here and they served 2 types of bread, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, meatloaf and an uncountable number of sides. Everything was delicious and very homecooked. I would highly recommend it.

A wonderful concept and an enjoyable experience. The food was absolutely delicious and abundant, the service was friendly and attentive, and the price was fair. We enjoyed getting to know a local couple who shared some of Monell’s history and they also told us that leftovers go to local food banks. Highly recommended experience and food.

What an experience! As tourists, we took a chance for southern food. What a surprise to be seated at a common table with local folks and sharing the food. May not be for everyone but what a flavorful way to start a trip. Food was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommend.

Awesome place, great experience. It’s family style and you sit with strangers if your party is too small. They bring out a bunch of different dishes and they get passed around the table until you get em all - all you can eat. Everything was really good, loved it.

The best southern meal I have ever had just occurred at Monell's @Monellstn. I landed in Nashville, TN and everybody I asked for food recommendations they all suggested this restaurant. I did not know the premise of Monell's before showing up, but the sign in the front said "Enter as strangers and leave as friends. " I did not know what it meant until I sat down with nine other people I have never meet and enjoyed a meal with them. Luckily we had an experienced patron at the table by the name of James, who has been going to the restaurant since since they opened 27 years ago. He was nice enough to break down all the amazing dishes that we had, from the Fried chicken, catfish, turnip greens, green beans, corn bread dressing, real mashed potatoes, biscuits and corn bread. All the food is served family style and it's all you can eat for less then $20 for lunch. Every thing was delicious and very tasty. I love how I never meet these people but we are all so happy to gather together to enjoy this spectacular meal. What a great, fun place! Family style is perfect to meet new people. Never ending food is always a good thing. And delicious! The Pot Roast was full of flavor. Stuffed Shells, Broccoli, Chicken done perfectly. We had a wonderful dinner and met a fun family. The staff was attentive without being a nuisance and kept our table well fed and warm. This will be a regular visit during our travels through Tennesse.

This place came up when I was searching for breakfast spots in Nashville. It did not disappoint. I didn't know what to expect but went with the flow. It was definitely different than anything I have ever experienced but it was nice. Service was great, food was DELICIOUS, and the people we were seated with were fun. Incredible experience to dine with a group of strangers, and have a lovely Thanksgiving meal. The wait was long but we got to have a hearty meal that we thoroughly enjoyed. The patrons of Monell's were lovely and super efficient as well. My friend was vegetarian and they were helpful to identify what dishes she could eat and even checked in after the meal

Stop by to dine in w/ family on Sunday 10/24/2021. I really enjoy this place. The food was awesome. The whole setup of the place is awesome. I recommend anyone to stop there. Very small place that is located in a neighborhood. Paid to park...it was a not long wait 20-25mins tops.

They serve YOU all you can eat according to today's menu and the dining is round table old school FAMILY STYLE so you can actually have a great conversation and get to meet great people from all over💯. I have to admit; I didn’t know Monell’s was a family style restaurant with communal seating when it was recommended by the hotel. I also didn’t know that we would enjoy it as much as we did. When we arrived it was a 45 minute wait for 2 people. All of the diners leaving had smiles on their faces so we stuck it out. They have a nice, relaxing outdoor waiting area with a small Koi pond. We were seated at a large table with 14 seats and once the food starts coming it all shows up in a hurry. You take what you want and pass to the left, just like our family dinner table. However the selection of delicious food is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. We’re talking biscuits, cornbread, white gravy, spare ribs, pot roast, Cajun catfish, and fried chicken…did I mention GREAT fried chicken. Sides like collard greens, green beans with potatoes and so many things I can’t remember them all. We met a local family with school age kids, a young school teacher with her dad who lived across the street and hadn’t been there since she moved in several years ago, a group of friends from Buffalo NY, Alabama and Georgia. We had a great time and a great meal in a one of a kind setting. I’m in for more family style dining!!

The shared meal experience was enjoyable, as we met some very interesting people and had lively conversations. The food was wonderful - especially the fried chicken, of course. If there was any negative to the experience, it was that we were added to a group who was way ahead of us in the meal. This gave us more of a 'catch up' feeling and not really knowing if we'd missed any of the food. It took us a little while to understand the atmosphere of the Mansion's dining method. We're glad we joined a fun group at the table, but the food service needed to be explained more to us, since we'd never been there before.

First time in Nashville! I read that there was a midnight breakfast on Saturday starting at midnight. Unfortunately, a group of my friends and I, along with some strangers who we also met at the front of the restaurant, found a closed restaurant Saturday at midnight. I submitted an edit of the hours because it seems that the midnight breakfast is actually on Sunday, according to some locals we passed. Standing outside on Friday night at 11:59pm and waiting for Saturday when it is 12:00am is actually Saturday midnight. If the restaurant is open Saturday night at 11:59pm to serve at midnight, that’s technically Sunday midnight. The locals said we needed to come back the next day (Sunday midnight). Sad my friends and I couldn’t try the food, but hopefully next time we come back to Nashville, we can!

Absolutely loved it. Family style seating at big tables. Unless you come with a big group, you'll share the table with others, so it's fun to meet others and find out where they are from. There is no ordering. They just start bringing out bowls and platters, and you help yourself and pass to the next person. Popular place, so expect a wait. Food is delicious, and all-you-can-eat. It will probably be your only meal of the day. With tax and tip, about $24-$25 per person.

Lovely southern brunch making new friends in comfortable setting. Traditional brunch with southern trimmings, such as fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and home made peach preserve. Invited to sit with like minded friends around large family table, sharing news and life stories in uber relaxed setting. Food kept coming and difficult to tear us apart at the end. What a find! Great value and better quality than downtown Nashville but I am now stuffed! It’s actually walkable to north of state capitol building. Took us 25 minutes and interesting through state park.

First night of our stay in Nashville on Thanksgiving week, we chose Monell's on reviews. Very nicely decorated outside. It is family style, which we did not expect, but it worked out great. Everyone at our table very pleasant. Every dish they brought to the table was phenomenal! Best fried chicken I've ever had. Great variety of meats and vegetables/ sides. When dish got low, they brought another out without question. Great service, incredible food, great price. Best meal we had all week! Do not miss this restaurant.

Always love eating here when we are visiting Nashville. The best part is the people you sit with at the table. Last night we met a couple from New Jersey and a mother and son from Kentucky and of course I'm a Tennessee girl. The conversation, the food, the atmosphere. If you visit Nashville you have to come here for breakfast!!! It is our favorite!!! The food is amazing and it's served family style and we love meeting new people. They have the best fried chicken and YES they serve it for breakfast too!!! They make everything on the menu for you and serve it together. The biscuits & gravy are my favorite. This experience was one for books. Love their style of meals and no cel phones. You eat at table with others Sunday dinner at grandmas style. Loved the family style of eating. I was laughing at the people who were waddling out of the restaurant, just to find myself in the same shoes….FULL. You definitely want to come here on an empty stomach. As for the soul food it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but still pretty good. Definitely something you should experience when coming to Nashville.

I give Monell's 10/10 for breakfast. It's a family style restaurant. You sit with others at a common table and you won't need your phone. We sat with folks from Nash, Miami, and Cincinnati if i heard correctly. Awesome fun leaning of their travels. The food was excellent and you can pick and choose from about 10 dishes - pancakes, cheesy grits, sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, country ham, peach preserves, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, sliced tomatoes and other yummy stuff!! I already want to go back!

So Good! The food is exactly what I assume that my grandmother would have made, had she been alive for me to meet her. So delicious. This was a unique eating experience. It's family oriented with a number of people sitting at one table and the food being provided and shared among those sitting at the table. Rules are always pass to the left and no cellphones at the table. (They must be on silent and you must leave the table to talk) . The food was really good. The fried chicken was amazing!!

Neat family style eatery in an old house. Went for the breakfast brunch and there wasn't a single disappointment. The fried chicken is amazing and plenty to go around. We had 11 people sitting our table and there was still food leftover. It's a can't miss and I'm glad it was recommended to us. Just remember to pass left!!

This place is a must! The breakfast was out of this world. Everything, from the gravy to the cinnamon rolls, fried apples and meat was delicious. Fantastic, tasty Breakfast. All you want to eat. We were the last two to sit at the table and barely sat down and the bowls of food started circling the table. Biscuits, sweet roles, corn pudding, eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, gravy, pancakes, fried apples and FRIED CHICKEN. Stuffed and happy we walked to the Parthenon and then to Broadway St. Talking with the peeps at the table was another great touch to the experience Family Dining while on vacation.

This restaurant is worth the price of admission. The restaurant has a very cozy welcoming atmosphere. The entire staff were treated us like we were part of the family. The food, well let's just say you better bring your appetite with you. They serve down home southern treats. Trust me you will not leave here hungry. This is one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have had. The family style dining is a great way to meat new people and get off your cell phone. Be prepared because they ask that you turn off you phone during dining. The food was delicious and plenty if it. Give Monelle's a try and you won't be disappointed.

Went to Monell’s for family birthday. All but one of the party had been here before-but probably 10 or more years ago. We arrived just before 5, the doors opened at 5, we were quickly seated. The food was excellent! Everyone was pleased, happy, although our new family member wished we’d stayed longer, to eat more. We’ll be back, it won’t take us 10 years. Monell’s at the Manor location.

It does make a good time for good conversation with travelers. Restaurant's objective is to have an old traditional meal with each dish passed around the table to the left.

For European visitors: Must visit. It is certainly an experience. You sit with strangers. Family style. Only issue is that the food is quite unique and probably not your type if you are used to dining in Europe. Fixed menu all you can eat and people there making the most out of it.

Great restaurant for traditional Southern food, best way to start the Saturday with friends after a night out in Broadway. Everything about this was awesome except the rate of exchange between sitting down and being rushed because someone is clearimg your table. I mentioned I felt rushed and the lady helping us invited me to take my coffee out to the garden area and finish at my leisure which I certainly enjoyed. I felt like the experience would have been better if I could have eaten slowly and enjoyed the cooking. Felt weird to rush through a meal when it took so long for the staff to prepare it. I will say, I don't think you'll find a better biscuit or cinnamon roll in Nashville. All the dishes were very delicious and I would like to come again for a dinner.

I want so badly to give this place 5 stars. It was an overall good experience. However, it was evident that the greens came from a can. I could taste the metal in them. Also, the mashed potatoes were a bit bland. Other than that, I enjoyed everything else. The fried chicken, biscuits and peach jam were delicious. I would return just for these.

A group of 15 went to lunch at Monell's at the Manor. We had the best time, and more than enough food for all of us. No problems with getting seated quickly and the staff was very attentive. If I didn't know better, I would have said my grandmother cooked that delicious Fried Chicken.

Love, love, love, this place. Incredible homestyle food served family style at large tables that accommodate 12 people. Smaller groups are joined together, but extremely comfortable. Fried buttermilk chicken, cheese grits, biscuits, ham, sweet spoon corn bread... Everything is so flavorful and delicious. Come hungry, all you can eat, leave and go for a long walk around Germantown.

I love family-style dining! We just didn't know exactly how they do it, lol. In all fairness they did tell us, but some places simply sit you with other people, while others add the responsibility of sharing all of the dishes, not just the same dishes on each end. Once we figured that out we were good. The food (and lots of it) was very tasty and full of flavor. Table, place settings, and bathrooms were all clean. Service was on point and we did not want for anything. Reasonably priced.

Their motto is "Come as strangers and leave as friends" meaning that they have big tables and if they are busy they will wear you wherever so your group maybe split up, but it is a great way to meet people coming together over food.

You do have to sit with one or two other families but it makes the experience unlike your average family breakfast/dinner. I didn't go to Monells for breakfast yet but I soon plan on it!

We had roast pork with apples, filet mignon, chicken with numerous sides, chocolate mousse for dessert. The atmosphere was filled with holiday carrols from a barbershop quartet. If you like a good breakfast, this is the place. They have two locations, one in Germantown, the other one near the Nashville Airport. I love the one in Germantown. It's a Victorian house with a charming garden outside that include a Koi pond, and a water fountain. The dining rooms have long communal tables withe colorful plates. The food is scrumptious including homemade peach preserve, stew apples, scramble eggs, ham, bacon, biscuits, grits, corn pudding...the best is their fried chicken. Lightly battered and very juicy inside. Everything was cooked to perfection. You can have as much as you like. At the end, you get a meal ticket to pay. I had interesting conversations with other people at the table. This place is a gem.

I went to Monell's for the first time in a couple of years for dinner on Friday night. I had a table all to myself since nobody else showed up at 5 PM exactly like I did. My server ended up creating a family style service for me. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness and presentation of the food items. I felt like an emperor at his feast. Everything was on point. However, I came specifically for the fried chicken, ribs and catfish since they are only served together on Fridays. After about 20 minutes, people started to come to Monell's. They do a great job of keeping individuals and families socially distanced. They also make sure the food comes out almost immediately. My server kept making sure I was okay. I really loved his friendly personality and concern for making sure my experience was outstanding.

Caveat: It's literally family/community-style dining. You are seated as a group (with other parties) who share one table. The menu is fixed and items come in order that are passed around the table. You may find yourself making conversation with strangers. Cellphones are not allowed during mealtime. Yes, you may get conscious of people watching you eat. If that is not your cup of tea or you feel sociopathic, then this place is not for you. However, the food is great!! Fried chicken is spot on but I was really impressed by the turkey which, for once, had flavor. The sides are not after-thoughts and you will find yourself taking second helpings. Dessert is yum! The staff will take care of you and don't be shy to ask for more! It's a different experience for sure. You could go with a large group to get your own table if you'd still prefer to keep the experience amongst knows. However, it's really not that awkward and you'll find parties talking amongst themselves (unless one overly-extroverted person shows up!). If you're in the area, it's worth it.

5 stars for the experience. I thought overall, the food was just okay.. maybe just 3 stars for food.. but you should come for the experience. It was cool to sit and talk to random strangers - some were locals and some were travelers like me and nice to hear where everyone was traveling from and about their experiences. The apricot jam was excellent and you can purchase to take home. It’s also BYOB so drop by the store and pick up some beer beforehand.

This one-of-a-kind restaurant was a perfect choice to be able to try a large variety of southern-style food. More dishes than I could keep track of were brought quickly brought out after we were seated and were passed around for everyone to share and enjoy. Anything that ran out was promptly replaced as needed. We were seated at one of the many large dining tables inside the restaurant, which is an old, renovated home that is carefully decorated. Be aware that there is a good chance that another party may be combined with yours to fill a table, most of which seemed to fit 12. The only negative aspects of the experience were that the dessert options brought out when we visited did not live up to the expectations set by the rest of the meal and the room we were seated in was quite loud even though there was only 1 other table, making it difficult to hear others at my table.

I love the building and the antiques inside. If you're into history, you'll like it as well. I wasn't sure what to expect walking in, it was crowded. Family style servings...your whole party needs to be present in order to sit. Everyone who sits to eat gets handed a meal ticket to pay at the register. The moment we sat down, food started coming out...a lot of food. You take what you want, add it to your plate then pass the food to the left. The food was just ok, for me...nothing in particular stood out.

The food is the absolute best and make sure you come hungry and pace yourself because you definitely want to try everything that comes to the table!!! I loved the meal on May 6, 2022. I've been cutting back on my consumption of red meat, fried food, salt & sugar, so I was relieved that they had well-seasoned items that I could eat. Great family style restaurant. We went for lunch and had the all you can eat, we had fried chicken, Mac and cheese, peas, bbq chicken, and more. The service was great and the company was even better. For about $17 each for the lunch it was a fair price for unlimited food. Would recommend to anyone looking for authentic Nashville food.

Wow! This is the closest thing you can get to home cooked southern food! They sit you down with random people and you pass around food like a home cooked family meal. Awesome food, make sure you call to find out what food is being served that night. It is all you can eat, so pack it in! Friday nights are, Catfish, Ribs, and Fried Chicken. No Reservation's, but worth the wait!

Food was not as good as I expected. Mac n cheese very runny. Pulled pork very dry. Fried chicken was the best. And only one item served for dessert. The bathrooms were flooding and filthy. Toilets overflowing with about 1/2” water all over the floor. No soap in dispenser. Several people complained and staff at front didn’t seem to care. The rooms still seem very congested during this time of Covid. And not saying it was from your restaurant. But 2 days later I tested positive for Covid. Only place I had been to in a 5 day period.

They had maybe 10-15 different foods brought out. Each one better than the last -a rare thing for me to say. I would highly recommend that they offer everyone hand sanitizer before we all passed everything around. Other than that I left incredibly happy with my visit.

Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was very busy with lots of people waiting outside but the line moved quickly and our party of six was seated in about 30 minutes. Unreal. This place blew my mind. Went in for midnight breakfast (at 2am) and treated like royalty. Food was amazing - chicken and cinnamon buns were favorites. You don’t order..they just bring out amazing food at your family style table. Pro move is to come late night and you won’t be disappointed. Great decorations too.

Absolutely love the concept of family style eating with a no phone at the table rule. Food is served immediately upon sitting -so the wait for a table is fair considering. This is hands down the best Nashville experience you can have..Although I had no idea how the system works there,and the staff did not give me any instructions, I am glad I took the chance..I had my breakfast with 11 other tourists and the food just started coming in ( and I thought, I did not order this)..For 16$ for breakfast, I had one of the most fulfilling breakfasts I have ever had in my life!!!!

Food was mostly great! I tried catfish for the first time and it was delicious. The only thing better would have been if we were sat with friendlier people. The other people at our table all knew each other and didn’t want to have anything to do with us. Lady next to me wouldn’t pass to her left so all the dishes ended up in front of her, LOL. At first I wasnt sure about getting seated with strangers but I loved it. You feel like you're in someone's house and the portions are super generous, served family style. I went for breakfast and everything was absolutely delicious - the biscuits, home made jam, fried chicken, bacon, potatoes.... we tried repeating the next day for lunch but the wait was too long. I would go back every time I am in Nashville!

It's like eating at a giant family table with 12ish other people you don't know. You'll pass around serving dishes filled with the best food ever, grab what you want, and pass to the next person. Some people are put off by that kind of intimacy and even view it as unsanitary. I loved the food and the experience. It may not be for everyone. Others in my party walked away. I'm glad I stayed.

Have you EVER seen a place with this many AMAZING reviews? It went on the list of must go places because of the great reviews. It lived up to all the expectations- I HIGHLY recommended going to Monell's when in Nashville! It's family style. This means you get to eat with other people, interact with other people, and share a meal with people you've never met before. I think more restaurants need to have "family style". They have rules posted outside (one of them is no cells phones) which I love because then people are actually interacting with one another, and listening. It's a pretty amazing concept. The food just keeps on flowing. Dish after dish after dish. Take what you want - no more then what you will eat, and pass it to your neighbor. Everything was delicious. They put out quality, hot, delicious food family style, something I have never seen before.

The secret to eating at Monell's on Thanksgiving day. Come with a blanket. Reality, it is 4 hour wait. Also, be patient. Everyone needs to be present upon seating. Also, if your party gets called and you do not say anything, you get skipped. In the end, we all got seated with strangers. The food was large family sized portions. Very Tennessean. Mixed china. I liked how they gave snacks and drinks while waiting. Left full. I got everything on the menu and a strawberry shortcake pudding. No photos of food because they said no phones at the table.

This took a little maneuvering to get to but it was well worth it. The dining experience was very different in that you dine with about 10 people at your table. They bring the food and each person passes to your left until each person is served. They serve up a lot of food and all of is is delicious. The food is good but there is sugar in a lot of the food and of course the drinks. The chicken is phenomenal. The fried chicken is juicy and crispy. The roasted chicken is juicy and flavorful. Super impressed with the beautiful building and flipping through the historical scrap books while we waited to be seated. At the table, you’ll sit with folks you don’t know and pass food around like you’re at grandmas house for Sunday supper with the family. We had the brunch and the food was amazing. The fried chicken is authentic and tasty as all get out. All of the food was delicious and we are planning on coming back for dinner. It’s definitely a place that you’ll want to go if you’re looking to make a memory with friends while your in town or if you’re local it’s a spot you’ll have to take your family too when they are visiting.

Went for the Christmas dinner and everything was great! The decorations, the carolers, the service, and food.. I am glad we booked early because I saw that the dinner was sold out. As it is during normal days, many entrees and sides are served family style and passed around the table. A few things that I did not expect were that I could not book online, there was no bar service, and we were seated with other people at the same table. I guess I should not have been that surprised with the seating, as it is shared seating during their normal times. It was BYOB, which is good to know for next time. Would have been great to cap of the great meal with a scotch!

My husband have had breakfast and lunch at the Germantown location. You just can't go wrong. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is amazing. The amount of food that they serve is plentiful. We can never eat as much as we would like to because there's so much. We enjoy sitting at a table and dining with others, we've met some very nice people. The staff are very attentive and the food starts being served soon after you're seated. This has become one of our favorite places to dine in Nashville!

This place was packed with a typical Turkey Day wait for restaurants that are open and serving a traditional holiday meal. She kept it organized with more than a smile on her face. Two hours AFTER their scheduled closing time, not only was she still smiling; but the warmth and cheer was flowing. Awesome place! I'll definitely be back to try their regular menu.

Stumbled in here at breakfast time without knowing what it was exactly. I'm pretty introverted so when I got seated at a big round table with 9 strangers I thought I'd not enjoy it..but it was great. The food was perfect and because you have to pass the dishes around the table, everyone is connected through food. This must be the southern hospitality you hear about as an Englishman.. loved it..already been back within a week. Staff were so welcoming and helpful. If you're in Germantown..or even Nashville, you have to try this place.. you'll leave with a bursting belly and smile on your face.

What an incredible experience with obviously homemade, delicious Southern Food. You'll join one large table with strangers and pass the fixins. Your table should already have drinks, a piece of dessert and a few light sides and biscuits, then the main course and sides come out later. Kids 12 and under get a discounted rate. The dinner rate for this night was $17.99 for each adult, and I'm not sure if that changes based on the course of the night. Go to Monell's!

The food was great. The service was diminished by not giving more food when we asked and a nasty attitude of a waitress. There was 20+ of us. A repeating experience for me a bad one for others. They have a rule no one can sit after the table starts serving. That wasn't true because they sat two white families at our tables after we started eating but when a friend arrived late they wanted to seat her somewhere else. The waitress was nasty about it and didn't serve any more food. Even though the argument had nothing to do with the rest of us who were already seated. Parking sucks and wait time can be long.. food is amazing nonetheless.

My second time at Monell’s for my 2nd visit to Nashville and they didn’t disappoint. On Friday they have bbq ribs which were solid but nothing beats their skillet fried chicken! Had 2 pieces and couldn’t fit anymore but thanks to a few napkins I wrapped a piece for later (indiscreetly of course). Sorry but I hate throwing food away and that last piece was destined for the garbage or my belly. So I took necessary action. Banana pudding was fabulous! Green beans are best side. Stuffed shells were good but I observed that no one really touches those - too messy to wrap in a napkin unfortunately so I had to let them go. Service was courteous and prompt as usual. Met some nice people at the table too. Every time I’m in Nashville, Monell’s is my #1 go to place for really good food and atmosphere

Tonight we dined with a couple from Louisville, KY. We had southern fried chicken, catfish, stuffed pasta lasagna shells and barbeque pork ribs with sides of turnip greens, seasoned green beans, white beans, corn pudding, Cole slaw, broccoli salad, mashed potatoes, corn bread muffins and squares,and biscuits..... that's not all folks. There was so much food and it's all you can eat. Drinks included lemonade, sweet and unsweetened tea 😊

If you go to Nashville, you have to go to this restaurant. It was an experience! We loved everything about it especially because we had no idea what the set up was like. The food was delicious. My family and I will definitely be back!

Good down home southern cooking and all the fixings, highly recommended. It's family style so you sit at a table passing the food around. The only downside is the waiter lacked basic customer service skills and actually yelled at the patrons at table for asking for more chicken, when he didn't bring enough to pass around the entire table. He seemed to ignore some tables compared to others. Don't get full off the cornbread and tea waiting for the real food to come out, it's trickery to the madness so get your money's worth.

Wow! How have I never been here? Soooo good! So much food! I would have taken pictures, but house rules are no cell phones at the table. All you can eat, family style. So worth the money. I tried every item at the table. Cornbread, biscuits, peach(?) jam, pickled beets, coleslaw, white beans, mashed potatoes, pot roast, fried chicken, collard greens, green beans, corn casserole, and banana pudding. Soooooo full!

We visited Nashville for the first time (from AK) and this was the one place I really wanted to try for a southern home style cooking. It was well worth the walk to Germantown via Capitol Hill. Dining here was a unique experience, meals are served family style and there is more than enough to go around. Quality food and authentically Southern style. Sitting with strangers can be uneasy at first, but breaking bread with good conversation makes you appreciate the Southern way of country dining. There is a good mix of everyone here from tourists to locals. If you're afraid of Covid, sit this one out and don't trash Monell's with an unfair review.

I've lived in Nashville for 25+ years and have never visited Monell's. My grandmother was visiting from PA and we wanted to take her someplace iconic in Nashville. Monell's did not disappoint! The family style is interesting, but the atmosphere leads itself to good conversation, if you allow it. All of the staff are super friendly and the food was delicious! We all left feeling like we won't be able to eat for a week! Will definitely be returning now that we know this place is so delicious and close by!

We ate here three out of 4 days on our trip. All three meals were good. The best was the Thanksgiving dinner. Our least favorite was the meatloaf BBQ rib day. The ribs were lacking and the meatloaf was average at best. Overall an excellent place to dine. If we ever get back to Nashville I am sure we will go there again, but avoid meatloaf day. What a great place! From the moment we walked in the door (side door of an old 2 story house which was great) until the moment we walked out, we felt like we were family.... family that was fed WELL! We were greeted and seated right away. The host told us all about the place and how everything worked... you sit amongst strangers which I found odd at first... but actually enjoyed. She told us where everything in the table was and what to expect. Then we got our breakfast...wow what a breakfast it was too! And everything was so good! From the fried chicken (which I hear comes with every meal and is excellent) to the eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, corn pudding, grits, fried apples, cinnamon rolls (with peach preserves over the top...yum!), biscuits and gravy.... every single thing I ate was phenomenal. The servers were very attentiveand friendly. The place was clean and had a great atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again at least once a week if I lived in the area. 10 out of 5 stars 🌟

I had been to Monell’s several years ago with a group of teachers on a trip to Nashville. We stopped there for lunch and I was absolutely amazed by the food, service and hospitality. Last week my husband and I were in Nashville again and we had lunch there. It was just as good as the last time. My husband had never been there. He was so impressed as I was the first time I was there. It is boarding house/family style Southern home style cooking. Their fried chicken is wonderful. Their pot roast is very good as were their stuffed shells. My husband was impressed with the variety of vegetables offered and the banana pudding for dessert. It is a wonderful way to spend an hour or two. Just make sure you wear your hi stretchy waist pants when you go! 😁

3 stars. My son is 20 months old. We just wanted a nice brunch but got scolded to put my son's cartoons away that we were using to keep him quiet so other people could enjoy their meal. The volume was zero. What little food we did eat was amazing but cut short due to no phone policy. The cashier was also very short to us and other people at our table. Would not travel here again but understand why people like it. If you have a small child I would not recommend this place.

A new experience to wait for the minimum amount of diners and all eat together family-style. Too pricey since no one can ask for any specific dish. The chess pie tasted like sugar - no other flavor and most at the table could only take one or two bites. Suggestions: Perhaps allowing the customers to request one or two dishes would be a good compromise, specifically dessert. Surely more than one choice could be made available - a different pie or ice cream or a traditional Southern dessert. Coffee or hot tea should have been included after the meal with the dessert. I don't plan to return, but the food was okay and at least we filled up our stomachs.

To begin with, the waiter was so friendly. I talked to him and he's of Mexican decent, born in California and his parents from Guerrero and I am being born in a state next to his parents. It was a pleasure getting served from him. He was so friendly and so nice to us. Please keep this server as he and his other co-workers make the service here at Monell's exceptional. If I could rate the food from 1-10, I would rate it 11. The iced tea was awesome. The coffee was great and not to mention the food! Great job Monell's, no wonder you were number one on Trip Advisor.

The experience sitting and eating next to random strangers and passing food around the table to everyone at our table was a bit strange. If my grandmother was still alive she would absolutely love it and I'd take her here in a second,, but I could see it being a bit overwhelming for some of the introverts in my life. That being said, the food was amazing. They have a breakfast menu for the day and just bring out fresh plates of all the food on the menu to your table, you take what you want and pass the rest around the table. They give you a little meal ticket when you're finished eating and it's a fixed price no matter what you get (even if you just sit and eat nothing at all.) We got to eat everything we wanted for breakfast, and because it was served family style it was more like a delicious weekend breakfast with the family than eating out at a restaurant. I would highly recommend eating here if you in Nashville. Sitting with strangers wasn't as bad as we thought it would be (though they do have breakfast to go options if this might be too much for you), and this was easily one of the best breakfasts I've ever had.

We went for their midnight breakfast and it was amazing! I love their no-phone policy and communal dining - it was such a great way to chat with strangers at our communal table. I would 100% recommend this place for anyone visiting Nashville. The food were all delicious, but my favorite would have to be the corn pudding.

Wonderful experience. Family style dining, good food, and got to meet new people. I didn't know/like that I couldn't choose from a menu, but there were multiples choices for entrees and sides. Most of the choices were yummy, and they serve as much as you can eat. Only one choice for dessert, and of course one of my children doesn't like that type of dessert. Cozy, homey decor. Anyone with covid anxiety, they may seat your party at a table with a different party depending on the group size. I would go again if I visit Nashville again in the future.
