Reviews of The Lab - Pilot & Quality Testing Facility
Jason O'Flaherty
The service was friendly. The building is light and fun. There's good sound control. They have bright colors and a fun gimmick along with some in house board games.
They are a pilot house which means they experiment with the beers. That means they're not all good. We only had about 35% that we really enjoyed.
Pouring your own beers is fun because you can have as much or little of whatever you want. It's a charged by oz. They also rotate beers quickly.
Overall an enjoyable experience, if not the greatest beers
A J
Rounding out our pub pass and this was one of the few left. I’m bummed we didn’t try it sooner as it was a great brewery!
I love the concept behind pouring your own (although we didn’t do that!) you get a card, insert it and grab your glass and choose your beer. I think it’s an amazing idea to try all different beers.
We got the blue raspberry blonde which was one of the best we have tried! We even brought home a Crowler, it was that good. We are planning to come back this summer to enjoy their patio.

The Lab was an okay brewery. The beer selection was fairly small and their seltzers we're only above average. They have decent parking but no food

My first visit to the Lab. The place was very clean and bright. Beer selection was limited compared to other breweries but did have a few seltzers to fill out their menu. The Octoberfest 0102 was very drinkable on a beautiful fall afternoon. The Russian Imperial Stout was not that good. We also tried the Good Dogg Orange Mango Hard Seltzer which smelled fruity and tasted fine. We will definitely revisit the Lab.

What an incredible discovery!
The Lab was a way cooler brewery than we expected. The fact that the drinks are always changing and the staff was so friendly and awesome makes this a place we definitely want to return to.

Wonderful open tap room with a bar/bartender and also self-serve beer wall where you pour yourself and pay for the beer by the ounce, with a card they give you when you enter. They are brewing the beer here and experimenting, taking feedback. They also have a full-on lab with chemists and microbiologist doing testing services for other breweries.
I liked being able to sample beers and being able to vary the amount I poured. The staff is wonderful. They have lots of good non-alcoholic drinks also.
All kinds of different seating inside and they have a nice outdoor space. Unfortunately it was cold and dreary, so patio empty when I visited. You can order food from Red River food truck with their card system.
Great place to meet folks, just a few blocks walk from Green Line Westgate Station, big parking lot likely open on nights and weekends (next to offices), also close to 94/280.

Fun space! Plenty of space inside and on the patio. Free popcorn too! Dogs are welcome out on the patio and are very loved 😊 though the beer selection is smaller (around 12), I enjoyed everything I tried. I love being able to self serve and try new things! The staff was very helpful and friendly. We will be back for sure! …

Great night time patio spot. They make a good watermelon seltzer, and I like all the beer options. There's not a lot of beers on tap, but the ones that they have are good. Since this is a pilot facility, I'm guessing they will be testing their new beers on the taps, so I'll be back to see any new ones. I think a couple more Seltzer's would be cool since the watermelon was good.

I planned a small networking gathering at The Lab because I really wanted to go there and had never been. I emailed The Lab the weekend before we were planning to meet up just to let them know I was coming with a group of 10-12 people. They were just finishing up a networking event of their own when our event started and everyone at The Lab was SO ACCOMMODATING and nice and happy to have us there. The event space is AWESOME and the beer-tenders were fun to talk to. It was a good assortment of beer and other options and the pour-your-own system is a cool deal. As a local beer lover and someone who has been to most of the Twin Cities breweries, I highly recommend this place for any hangout, gathering, networking event, etc.

This place is always just perfect. The staff are friendly and welcoming. You can pour your own beers by the ounce/mug or staff will pull the drafts for you. I love the frequency of new drinks here and always some great variance and even non-alcoholic options. Nice outdoor seating option during season, plenty of food vendors deliver, regular food trucks (prior to pandemic), tons of parking on-site. I can't really find chinks in the armor here. Probably they should increase/up their email mailings though to better keep spreading the news and events.

Creative self-serve brewery with some great options on tap. They have an unconventional approach where you keep a running tab on a card and pay per ounce. Helpful staff are around to assist if needed, but otherwise you play the role of both bartender and patron. Try out the Chocolate Blonde and the Alcoholic Lime & Mint Kombucha.

Cool newer brewery in the area!
Their building is roomy with a good-sized patio area, and loads if free parking!
Varied list of beers that are good; Not quite as robust in flavor intensity as I prefer, but still very drinkable craft beer.
Staff are nice and explain their process with patience for the uninitiated (it's a pour-your-own establishment where you pay via card at the row of taps).
Food trucks are usually there, too. Fun place to bring a group to! While not my first choice for craft beer in that immediate area, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to hop over there if my main couple spots are too busy.
Rae Burke
Great beverages (lots of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, including kombucha, ciders, and seltzers for our gluten free friends), easy parking, cool tap wall. Only complaint is it can definitely get a little noisy indoors.
Rhythmically Speaking
We were fortunate enough to hold a live dance show under what the dance community has come to call 'The Shed' - the covered parking garage at The Lab - and we are SO glad we did! They were awesome to work with, and their beer and seltzer is hard to beat! The patio and indoor seating area are both lovely, and there is always plenty of parking. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for a unique and high quality taproom experience, this is the place! The Lab hosts a creative approach to brewing/tasting that is unlike anything else in the Twin Cities metro. The entire staff has a passion for beer/brewing and they ensure you are provided with an engaging tasting experience! Location is great... easy access for various transit lines (perfect stop before/after a game Downtown or at Allianz) and ample parking if you choose to drive. Venue has great seating and excellent outdoor space for live entertainment throughout the year. Highly recommend you take the time to check out The Lab!!

Really liked the live band!!! The drinks were decent. The space was cool to hang out with a medium group.
Joshua bristlin
Great beer, really enjoyed the new England ipa and the apple cinnamon cider as well
Vanessa Zarrilli
Awesome brewery in St. Paul/Minneapolis area! The beer was really great and the food was tasty. There were a ton of beer options that you got to pour yourself. I did a taster so I could try a bunch of different kinds. My favorite was the apricot. We went for Father's Day and it was really family friendly. It was really clean and there were tons of games to to play with friends. I definitely recommend this place!
Emily Sunderman
My husband and I have been to 180+ breweries and The Lab has a new, creative vibe! We were hesitant to visit, as a lot of the taprooms in the MSP area have started to blend together. However, The Lab has great experimental beers and a really fun pour your own wall! The staff was accommodating and explained how to use the wall right away. There is free parking and enough space to sit comfortably with large groups. The Lab has everything it takes to be a super successful brewery in the twin cities. Definitely worth a visit with friends.
Mandy Griffin
Fun new brewery with a twist. They brew their own beer, but also test recipes from other local breweries on their systems, then let you blind taste test them. It's a fun idea. The taproom itself is big and casual, nice place to meet friends or get work done. We had a good night just slowly pouring our own beer and trying as much or little as we wanted.
Zack Z
Great brewery to visit in St. Paul / Minneapolis area to bring the family, hang out and try new beers. The patio is huge and there's tons of free parking. We came for a Father's Day special and had a really fun time. It's a modern, relaxing atmosphere with a pour your own beer system that was really cool. You pay by the oz, so you're never stuck with a pi t you don't like. Lots of other options to choose from other than beers as well (hard seltzers, cider, kombucha, etc)
Highly recommended! We'll be back!
Skin Quilt Productions
The brewery and the service was really good. The bartender was very courteous and made sure we were comfortable. However, there was not anything on tap that I liked. They have a pour your own set up as well as a bar you can order from.
Nate Jones
The concept of this place is super cool, for starters. It’s not often there are places around the cities really being able to experiment a lot with pilot/experimental beers, so this place is a breath of fresh air for those of us who really love trying brand new stuff all the time without setting a lot of expectations. The fact that the space is cool and the employees were super nice is, of course, a huge bonus. I’m very much looking forward to coming back!
Alissa Haws
A few things set this place apart
1. You can choose between pour your own or traditional bartenders/pints 🍻
2. Best non-alcoholic selection in the Twin Cities brewery scene. I LOVE this since sometimes I want to go out but not drink
3. Chill vibe, I went here to study and there was tons of great seating indoor and outdoors, music wasn't too quiet, wasn't too soft
Aleksander Glauvitz
Great place to hangout! The concept is amazing -- paving an opportunity for entrepreneur drink makers to get their drinks out in front of consumers is such a great idea! And the food truck is amazing too. Bring a group of friends with you and poor yourselves some delicious beer, or hangout at the bar and enjoy a nice conversation with the bar staff.
Shawn Johanson
Had a great time last night at The Lab. This is a new Taproom right off of 94 and 280. The have a self serve tap wall, so you never have to wait for another drink. They had a big variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Free popcorn and a food truck that is there all the time. The staff was really friendly and the owner was even there and came up to our table and asked our opinion about the place. I will definitely be coming back.
Rob Liebhart
Had a great time using the self-pour tap wall! Prices were reasonable, and the process was super simple. Nice, clean bathrooms and quality bike racks round out the amenities.
Rick Petersen
The Lab was awesome! Serve yourself taps or sit at the bar. I loved being able to serve myself and try a sample. There was something for everyone who likes beer. I'm excited to go back! I didn't try the food truck, but everyone eating seemed to enjoy it.
Jay
Fantastic space, with a wide diversity of drink offerings. I like beer, but my wife prefers ciders, sours, seltzers, kombuchas, etc. so she was pleased to visit a a taproom that offers many different options for those who don't prefer beer. The other thing that's great about this place is the streamlined process: there is a self-service pour option and you can settle up by dropping your personal beverage card (which is linked to a payment method) in the drop box near the door. Don't get me wrong, the staff were friendly and great, but it's nice to be able to just do your own thing.
It's a cool concept but I wonder if it will be successful due to the location. It's kind of in an isolated spot with not much else over there. That said, we will likely be back because we live nearby.
Amber Jansen
LOVE The Lab! Being able to pour your own flights to taste test new brews is so cool! Also love that they have more than just craft beer they have an alcoholic kombucha, hard seltzers, and a ton of non alcoholic drinks too. Such a neat concept!
Honey Set
LOVE The Lab! Self pour. No need to close out. Great space. Kid friendly. Dog friendly. Delicious food trucks. Sick patio. Great for game night or to take in some local music. Brews are rotated frequently. Always guaranteed to find something you'll love. Wonderful staff. Immaculate facility. Open Fridays 3 - 6 for crowler pickup, or they'll deliver on Saturday. Online orders available. No need to park blocks away. No need to wait for a table. Easily our favorite TC brewery.
Ren Pigsley
Love this brewery! The staff is friendly, the building is modern and clean. The team is very knowledgeable about the different brews and the company. When I was there and Hannah one of the staff memenrrsbwas helping me pick which kind I wanted and she was so helpful. Can't wait to go back!
Tyler Andrew
Great staff, gentleman that explained and assisted was very polite and informative. The apricot red ale is delicious the switchel is an interesting almost pumpkin pie spice drink. Great parking and outdoor area. Food truck food is delicious we had the nacho .
Vida Dam
Great place with great beer options. It's a pour yourself so you can try many things. It doesn't officially open until 5/1/2019 but you can have events there until then. Location is also very close to other breweries for you to hit up a few places in the area as well.
Dan Waxenberg
Enjoyed the self-serve style and trivia nights; glad they've found a way to stay in operation during this stay-at-home order - just picked up a few crowlers after ordering online. Very quick and easy contactless pickup from the taproom.
jorgea MENA
Great place were you can serve yourself beer, very great staff, the only thing is that their beer needs a lot of work, beer has great potential but its not quite there yet, beer is very carbonated. This is my wife and I 130th brewery we had visited.
Sue Falldin
The Lab is one of those breweries where you use a card, pour your own and then pay at the end. They had music and games. We played cards. Everyone was really nice there and we had a lot of fun.
Noah Halbach
Love the concept of this place. It was refreshing to be able to get as little or as much of a beer as I wanted via the pour your own system. I was able to try most of what's available and found some favorites. Please bring kombucha back to the menu.
Kristyn Secaur
This is a unique concept and fun atmosphere. I have been to several events in the space and the staff have been nothing but accommodating. The variety of drinks can fit any taste. I will be back soon.
Charles Cooke Jr.
Enjoyed sipping on their Imperial Stout! Aged in Oak Bourbon barrels, 17% alcohol, definitely a treat!
Michael Shaw
Awesome concept to support brewers exploration and experimentation. I was excited to find brewers experimenting with hard seltzer and kombuchas; it's not just beer!
steshan9118
Awesome brewery. I love the concept of paying as you pour. Make your own blends if you choose to. Atmosphere was awesome, great blend of music and lighting.
Melissa Miller
Friendly staff, open brew hall. Beer selection limited to 12, with a seltzer. Can pour your own and pay by the ounce or pay a bartender for full pints.
Chris Mikkelson
This is a great place to try new and interesting beers you can't get anywhere else -- yet. Be a part of R&D and enjoy!

You get to pour your own taps. Try as little as you want or go big! You essentially pay for the amount you pour. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Apollo Macgregor
Staff not very friendly. "Pretzels" were overpriced and grocery store quality. Otherwise decent place.
Deejay Saren
