Love this location, the staff here is always so friendly and the subs are consistent. Usually get the hook and ladder. Can't add your own sauces due to covid but can still get some in packets if you ask! Clean space, quick service.

I went to this location and I had ordered a large and the employee accidentally rang 2 mediums (I believe. Something along those lines) and she asked if I would just like 2 mediums. I replied the large was enough. Well little did I know at that time they she didn't know how to void the sale, I think. So she went over to her purse and grabbed the remaining cost to pay it off so her register wasn't off. I was kind of confused at the time. After I left and thought about it I could only come to 1 of 2 conclusions. Either She was so worried about losing her job that she would rather take money out of her own pocket than to simply "void" the sale. Or the company hadn't taught her how to void a sale, but still instilled in her that she could lose her job for an action as little as that. Either way it just went to show how good of an employee she is, and also how unfair of employers Firehouse subs is. I could be totally wrong but I can't see it any other way. I've been in twice since trying to find this lady to pay her back but I have yet to see her. Anyway, the staff (only her at the time) was awesome. And the food (she prepared) was excellent. However, I can't say as a franchise over all how I feel but I will get to the bottom of this. So my rating is solely on her as for now. I hope I find her soon. I'd like to hire her at my business honestly!!

I have ate at Firehouse 3 times now, and EVERY time I have been SO impressed!!!! I really have no desire to go to the "other" sub shops. I hope this stays consistent. Keep up the great work!!!

Err meh gerd theee best subs in the world hand's down that steamed meat melty cheese and the service second to none the workers there are the best in the biz so go on down and tell them Mike sent you it probably won't make a dif but eyes hungry eyesa wants a subby sub

I went to Firehouse to take advantage of a free birthday sub. I ended up ordering two; the New York Steamer (delicious!!) and the Steak & Cheese with mushrooms (yummy). The sandwiches were delicious, the service was wonderful and the three employees were fantastic. Each of the employees (it was slow when I was there, one person in front of me) were so outgoing, talking as though we were friends. For me, customer service is such a big part of a food experience and they definitely didn't disappoint. I will definitely be back and would recommend this location!

We like Firehouse and this one's probably the one we go to most frequently. Meats are sliced in house but I'm not sure if the bread is baked in house or not. I don't think we've ever really had a bad experience. They do a good job with the limitations of a national chain. I guess if you're in the area during the day, just go to Manhattan Deli or Palmers down the street but if they're closed this is a good place to go in a pinch.

Ordered carry out with Uber Eats and it didn’t allow us to swap out meats on the app so we called in to do that and they were super nice and accommodating. Appreciated that very much :)

Fast friendly service with a large variety of sauces. Actually the biggest variety I've ever seen. You can dine in do carry out and it's always made fresh and hot. As you order. Right there located on a nice street near downtown Des Moines.

I ordered the Engineer sub, which was supposed to have sauteed mushrooms, but I saw one of the employees take them straight out of a fresh jar of them and put it on mine. I'm not sure if that's standard procedure, but I hope it isn't. The sandwich was tasty, but for the price I paid I don't think it was really worth it. I do appreciate that some of the proceeds go to a great cause, though. I will for sure go to this specific restaurant again at a different time to get another idea of what it's really like and maybe update my review then. Overall, I think my one experience lends this place a solid three stars for overall experience, speed and quality of service, and taste and quality of the food I got.

The subs here are VERY good. A bit pricey but worth it every so often. They also sell their empty pickle buckets for $2. Friendly staff. Very family friendly. Lot parking and drive through available. Marcy’sDinerTantrumScale 5/5-no screaming kids. Try the cheddar brisket! I was much more impressed with Fire House than most sub shops! The selection of sandwiches was great and you had almost too many options on how to customize yours. It was a good sandwich served hot with good sides. This was a quick supper before a movie and we almost missed the movie!

Living in Iowa for most of my life. Honestly, have never been to a fire house subs location. I was really hungry after leaving a doctors appointment off of University in West Des Moines. So, I decided after driving by to turn around and give it a shot! I can’t tell you how happy I was to turn around and try fire house subs. I had the Italian sub with baked potato soup. It was out of this world! The service was pretty good as well. It took less than five minutes to make my food. I will definitely be back probably to the Ingersoll location this time since I’m closer 👍 Thanks!!!

Great subs! Plenty of different subs to choose from, clean establishment, and they ask if you want to round up your change to support first responders. Plus they have an amazing cherry lime drink. Sign me up.

I have loved Firehouse Subs since I first experienced them about ten years ago. The crew is fantastic, even greet me by name. The brisket and cheddar with datil pepper sauce is the BEST (admittedly it's the only sandwich I get there)

A couple weeks ago I ordered delivery through door dash. It was a snowy day and the driver never made it to Firehouse. I found out they cancelled my order after over an hour of waiting. Firehouse employees Sarah and Nick stayed late and waited for me to drive there and pick it up. They were incredibly understanding and thoughtful of the situation and they even gave me extra sandwiches for my trouble! I know firehouse subs are delicious but it’s this type of care that will have me coming back regularly.

The brisket sandwich is amazing. I ordered a large and barely could finish it. Probably way too many calories for me but so well worth it and it only cost $11 not bad at all. Walked away full and happy.

Currently my go to place for quick serve hot subs. They taste pretty good, there's good service, and they're usually pretty quick. They also have a pretty tasty cherry limeade (though I usually mix it with lemonade to cut the sweetness).

I give 3 stars because the lady who ran register was very professional and nice. Very respectful!! But that so called sandwich maker you have back there very rude and unprofessional. Asked a question and he gives back some snotty response. And I can 100% agree that it was a stupid question but at the end of the day when your in a business like that your to stay professional no matter how hard it may be. And if I would of just snapped right there, I would of been the crazy guy. But other then that, everything cool. Thank you

Place is very clean and friendly. You can sometimes wait a while for your food, but you can tell that there is quality in their products. It's not just thrown together. Food is very good! I'd have to say portion size is a tad small for the price..

Very tasty sandwich, but only one employee helping about 10 customers at 6:15 in the evening. Finally a 2nd employee came out of the back after the first yelled angrily at him about how far behind she was. 20 min wait for sandwich. This place is too small for two tv's blaring on different channels. There must be investors throwing these places up that know little and care less about operations. Update- tried again June, 2017. Still a good sandwich. I was the only customer at 6pm on Friday night, so short wait for order. I guess first impressions are lasting, people are staying away in droves.

My husband and I have been to this location 3 times. We are always greeted with friendly staff, the food is hot and fresh. And the environment is warm and comfortable. We haven’t been disappointed yet! We will definitely be returning!

Food is good, better than other firehouses I've been to out if state. The wait is not unreasonable, it's not fast-food as some people seem to think. It's a nice sit-down sandwich shop that tastes great. Food is expensive but it's worth it at times.

I had the best sandwich tonight! I recommend the club. Kids eat free on Sunday... not only a great value here, but they had adorable toys to keep our boys busy so we could enjoy our meal! In my conversation with Donya, I learned that they give back to the community which is very near to my heart. Highly recommend everyone to try this place! Our eldest has severe food allergies and they were quite accomodating.

So not being iowa inhave never experienced a firehouse subs before.As I came here with a open mind and was I blown away,the food was amazing and got to us fast,the service was amazing,being a former firefighter I was giving the servicemen discount... Ordered 2 large subs they rang up medium. I let that pass. Wanted 1 italian and 1 hero, got 2 heros. Asked for no tomato because I am allergic to them. Got home and bit right into a tomato. I will never come here again. Never have this problem at the Merle hay location
