This was one of the best restaurant s in Chicago Incredible swordfish Karchupuri and good selection of wines. Dessert was also superb - Napoleon. Highly recommend (if you drink pair you meal with a Geirgian wine)

This place is so amazing and mind-blowingly delicious. Don’t be jarred by the prices — they seem higher than usual but that’s because the portions are family-size! Don’t over-order like we did (or do, and have fantastic leftovers after), and enjoy the huge breadth of flavors. Absolute favorite: the imeruli khachapuri (cheese pie) and garlic potatoes. Delicious!

First time trying Georgian food, was so delicious. Food has a lots of herbs to it. Quality of ingredients was excellent. Staff is attentive but doesn’t bother you. Very simple interior. Great for big groups. Portions are on the larger side.

Delicious Georgian food and amazing wine! We ordered the chakapuli (lamb stew), mushroom ojakhuri (mushroom stew), imeruli (stuffed cheese bread), and the cold appetizers mix. All were delicious! They also have a great selection of Georgian wines which were unbelievably flavorful. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing.

This was my first time trying Georgian food and it was really tasty. Came on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded at all. We ordered the imeruli khachapuri which was this HUGE buttery cheese bread. It was so good. The lamb ojakhuri was yummy as well.

If you don’t know what Georgian food is - there a lot to explore! They have vegetarian options and gluten free, lots of different kebabs and my favorite khinkali and khachapuri. Everything tastes delicious! Napoleon cake for dessert is a must (save some room for it)

I have long wanted to try Georgian cuisine and finally saw this restaurant by chance. I liked everything, but we did not know that there are no alcoholic beverages in the restaurant and you can bring them with you. After we asked the waiter a second time if she was sure there was no alcohol :)) she suggested we go to whole foods When we arrived at the entrance we were asked if we had booked, we did not reserve but at first glance it was not very crowded, so we were quickly seated, though at the very end of the hall. It was about 5 pm and maybe 4 tables were occupied, but when we were going to go almost all the tables were occupied.

The food was flavorful, rustic and filling. Fresh baked bread and hearty stews…. trust me get the lamb stew…. just do it, get the lamb stew. Entrees ranged from 20-30 bucks per plate and expect to order sides ala carte. There wasnt a dish we didnt enjoy and the venue was a cute and charming. Everyone was very kind, however to be fair it was faily empty and it took a while to get our check. Also there were only canned beverages, I would expect a restaurant like this to have a fountain. Also it’s currently BYOB until they get their liquor license.

Excellent Georgian food. The potatoes, meat, onions and spices are delicious. Plan to return and try different items. Highly fresh and nice atmosphere with busy, but friendly staff. If you enjoy Georgian/Eastern European/Western Asian cultural food you will enjoy this place.

Be aware of changes! We have been the loyal customers of Chicago Diplomat Cafe for couple of years. Food and service is always amazing! Server Nikita is awesome. However, during our last visit, we have noticed several changes that aren’t noted in the menu nor someone mentioned them. So, main dishes no longer come with the side of potatoes (you have to order them separately). And it’s a bit of pity that if you ask for sauces (which used to come with the dish), you will be charged for them additionally. Misunderstanding could be avoided if prior receiving the orders the management notified customers.

Amazing Georgian restaurant with a great selection of Georgian wines and cuisine. Their menu of baked meals- consisting of a variety of breads stuffed with a variety of cheeses, spinach, or meats- are amazing. The classic Kachapuri Ajaruli (boat shaped bread with an egg inside) is also great. The honey cake is also delicious! Just generally- lovely place to go for a nice meal with friendly service in a nice environment.

This wonderful establishment sparked an obsession I was not even ready for! Georgian food is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had the most personal experience with the owners and staff and it made me want to consume this food every day for the rest of my life. Awesome Georgian food. As a Turkish guy living in Chicago I really loved the dishes. Portions were big. Turkish coffee is a definitely a must in the end of the day. Service was fast, waitress worked tirelessly to feed our empty stomachs. Will come back!

Rare Gem of Authentic Georgian cuisine in Chicago! My dining companions have been living in the U.S. for almost a year and were missing such dishes as khatchapuri. We discovered the Diplomat Cafe and were not disappointed. We visited in a Saturday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The presentation of the dishes we ordered was perfect and tasted amazing. Very friendly and courteous staff. Interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable. Unfortunately, I do not live nearby and would not be able to visit often. Only complaint I can make is that the menu pricing is a bit steep. Perhaps a lunch menu with lower prices would help attract customers during the day.

This is now my favorite place to eat in Chicago. Incredible decor and music. The staff here are extremely courteous and friendly. Bring a bottle of wine and they will open it for you and provide glasses. Order a khachapuri to start and you will be thrilled. The mixture of butter, cheese and egg is complimented perfectly with the dough. I had lamb and my wife had chicken in garlic cream sauce. Either way you can’t go wrong here.

The only Georgian (former Soviet Republic, rather than the Peachtree state) restaurant in Chicago, features some unusual but tasty dishes not offered anywhere else, a small sampling of what we tried: Chkmeruli, Georgian baked chicken w garlic cream sauce; Nigvziani Badrijani, eggplant stuffed with garlic walnut paste; Pkhali, chopped & minced eggplant, spinach, beets and leeks; Khinkali, Georgian style dumplings w mushrooms; and Tarragon flavored Georgian Lemonade. Lastly, it's BYOB.

Genuinely the best potatoes I have ever had. Portions are very large, so be prepared to either split the dishes or gorge yourself. We had the Ojakhuri with lamb and Salmon kebab and it was some of the best food. Seasoning was perfect. Also, the restaurant smelled very nice too.

I’ve been here 2 times and both times have been absolutely fantastic! There’s not many restaurants in Chicago that serve Georgian food and this is the only fully Georgian restaurant in the Chicago area. The portions are great, the service is awesome, and the food is incredible. This is such a hidden gem in Lakeview, and definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago in my opinion. Looking forward to my next visit back!

This place was wonderful, staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. We had multiple dishes but the ones that stood out to me were the Ajapsandali a vegetarian eggplant dish, Khinkali - which was a delicious heftier soup dumpling type dish, Ajaruli Khachapuri which is pictured below with the Georgian Lemonade Tarragon Flavor which was also excellent! All of the Georgian Lemonades we're fantastic. I will be coming back again! :)

My son lives in the neighborhood and has been wanting to try the Diplomat Cafe. Dinner was great. The cheese filled bread was excellent. The salad was enough for 4 and really tasty. We shared 2 lamb dishes a pork dish and the roasted chicken. We enjoyed all the dishes and their unique Georgian spices.

If you’ve never eaten Georgian food, you need to go here NOW. As someone who loves Georgian food but has difficulty finding Georgian restaurants in the US, I was ecstatic to find this place. The food was INCREDIBLE. We got the Ojakhuri with pork and the Khachapuri—the best I’ve had in a long time. The pork was tender and the potatoes and garlic/seasoning was heavenly. Also, their portions are generous and the service is great. In short, this is a great treasure in the Lakeview neighborhood and I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. 11/10!

Don't let it fool you, this place comes off a little expensive but it is ABSOLUTELY NOT for the quality. The khachapuri is INSANE, cheese in every single corner of the bread, salty and creamy. I had the traditional, and it's the best bread I've had in the city. Not best bread like this, best bread OVER ALL. My husband and I shared the roasted pork and potatoes, the portion fed both of us and he has a big appetite. Definitely generous with meat and it is TENDER. I strongly suggest going here. The only other place I've had Georgian food is in Kraków and this place was better.

I have family connections to Georgia so my family knows a good deal about Georgian cuisine and when I brought them here they were all beyond pleased, as was I. Delicious, authentic food, with great options for vegetarians and vegans. Haven't had such tasty compote since my grandma's. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

Having no prior experience with Georgian food beyond the baked goods, I cannot comment on the authenticity here. It seems like there is a mixed set of emotions on this subject, via other reviewers. In reading online, however, I've realized that Georgia has an incredibly diverse culinary tradition for a country its size, so perhaps this has something to do with the mixed reactions? What I can say is that this food was unlike anything else I've had. Similar in many ways, and often with familiar ingredients, but much more unique than I was expecting. The flavors were very bold, almost exhaustingly so, and the flavor combinations did not remind me of either Turkish or Russian cuisines, which I was expecting as major influences. We really appreciated the wealth of vegetarian options, and it seems the Georgian table is vegetable-forward overall. My only quibble was that the prices were indeed fairly steep, which prevented me from trying as many dishes as I'd like, but the portions were generous and I'd be surprised if much wasn't prepared in-house. Consider it the price of admission into a unique culinary world, and a tip of support for a very special local restaurant.

A unique decor inside this place gives you a feeling of stepping outside Chicago for a moment. The food is fantastic, the vibe is great, and this is really worth checking out. I had a great experience coming to this cafe, the employees where very kind and friendly. When we got there it was supposed to be close, but they kept it open for us to enjoy my friends birthday party. The food was amazing I’m sure we will be returning soon. Excellent food, wonderful service AND GREAT FOOD. We were going to take a picture of the food but we ate it too quickly. Traditional Georgian staples with a nice not too loud atmosphere. Try any of their stews and leave room for the honey cake at the end!

The dishes here were very authentic. The chakapuli (lamb stew) in particular was delicious. Service was fairly quick and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The only downside was that it was very loud. I couldn't even tell you if there was music playing or not because we couldn't hear it. Regardless, it was a wonderful meal and I'll definitely be back.

As Ukrainian, I love delicious Georgian food. I was very excited to find this cute Georgian restaurant in Lakeview. In my opinion Georgian food is one of the most tastiest in the history of the world’s famous cuisines. Every dish is so full of different flavors which will surprise and satisfy the most demanding pallets. I’ve ordered some meat khinkali filled with delicious broth. There is some trick to eat this dish without spilling the broth. I think the restaurant personnel can help to learn that little trick. Also, I get a chance to enjoy khachapuri with melted cheese and an egg . And it’s taste was very delightsome. Their pkhali were very rich in herbs and walnuts. The dish is eggplant and beets based. This place is BYOB and Georgian red wine is perfect choice for such a hearty food filled with Georgian sun and love. I think that some ethnic Georgian music would be great addition to underline the authenticity of this restaurant. The service was very attentive but I’ve came early afternoon and was an only customer over there to my big surprise. Don’t hesitate to give it a chance if you not familiar with Georgian good. The dinner can take a turn being a great gastronomic discovery and adventure.

I visited this new Lakeview restaurant two weeks ago and I loved it! The breakfast was awesome! I also went there for the opening the first day and got a chance to try out multiple items from the evening menu. Incredible Mediterranean cuisine at a great price. I'll be going back for sure.

Lovely Georgian restaurant!! I took my aunt and uncle for their first Georgian and Caucasian dining experience... They loved it! I helped them with suggestions but the menu is clear and the staff speak excellent English so they can help. Definitely get khinkali (hin-KAL-ee). If you love cheese, get khatchapuri and share it. Share the khinkali as well (you should have the staff explain how to eat them). It's really quite a nice dining experience! It's the closest Georgian restaurant to me in Minneapolis, other than going into Canada.

I tried few dishes - hachapuri, mtsvadi, ajafsandali, ajika, all are very good. Khinkali is not as tasty as in Georgia (being Georgian myself I tried better ones :)). Really nice staff! Overall, I had a great time and would definitely recommend the place to everyone.

Food is delicious,especially when there aren't any Georgian restaurants in the area, it makes Diplomat cafe even better. Georgian food has very rich variety of dishes, and most popular ones you can find here. I personally like Phali with spinach, Eggplant rolls, Satsivi ( a cold dish with chicken in creamy walnut sause) Disadvantages are : Chachapuri is extremely expensive. I understand it should be hard to get suluguni cheese to Chicago, but guys..19$ for Megruli & 18 for Ajaruli.. Is way to expensive IMHO. Tips : Would be good if you put several Georgian national costumes on your wall.
