I found this place while working out of town and is like a diamond in the rough. I paid only six or seven dollars and I got a good sized pulled pork sandwich and small fries or it was regular I can't remember but it was so much that it filled the entire tray. I mean it was overly stuffed. In Atlanta for the price and the quality of food I would say I hit the jackpot but beware, they are only open Wednesday through the weekend and are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. It was a sad day when we showed up and they were closed. Don't be fooled by its "hole in the wall" look as food of this quality should have a national chain. Very very delicious :-).

Food was incredible! I’ve driven by many times and finally checked it out and was not let down at all. It’s black owned and run with pride, they actually care about their customers. I got the 1/4 lbs bbq brisket sandwich and finally feel I’ve found my bbq spot in the A along with Heirloom. Don’t pass it up, line was small and food was made quick if you’re looking for a solid lunch!

Stopped by during a work trip to the area. So glad I did. My only regret was not finishing it all (ordered way too much). Everything was great, but the fried shrimp is a must try!

Food pretty good. Mac weirdly had a taste of horseradish. Idk either. Eating my key lime Strawberry cake slice now and can't taste either flavor. Slice is stale. Window attendant was also very defensive. First (& prob last) time visiting and asked whether amount of brisket was what I paid for. He had at least 3 unnecessary comebacks. Okay food. Long wait. Rude & non efficient service. Greens were delicious.

Visiting from Nebraska, Googled BBQ and the Shack came up. It looked authentic and delicious. We were not disappointed. Ribs, salmon, pulled pork sandwich were amazing, not to mention the excellent peach cobbler. The staff and service were friendly and helpful. Would recommend if you are looking for good food with great service! We will definitely eat here again. Maybe sooner rather than later!

Some of the best pork BBQ I've had. Be prepared for a old fashioned BBQ pit stall. Delicious fall-off-the-bone smoky pork ribs. Portions are generous for what you pay for. Pit master is super friendly. I highly recommend for the food.

Totally worth the mile walk here! Everyone is polite and courteous. Have them put together a sampler platter, open the cooler and sit down to enjoy. It's always best to eat bbq while the smoker is cooking.

My friend told me about this place so I had to give it a try. Oh my God, the brisket is to die for. So tender it melts into your mouth. The yams were cooked to perfection; the portions were enough to feed two easily. The customer service was impeccable. It was so good that I wanted to return the next day. I will be going back. P.S. Don't forget the cobbler mouth watering. 😋

Went for lunch with family from out of town, the food was great and the hospitality was even better. Grilled salmon was extra flaky and flavorful. The ribs were falling off the bone plus the peach cobbler was to die for.

Worth a two-year quest! This guy serves and has been serving the best bbq smoked ribs in Atlanta, period! We first discovered him when he had a food truck around the West End area on weekends only. However, he changed his usual location at some point and we spent a couple of years driving around south Atlanta looking for him unsuccessfully. Thank God, I ran into him coincidentally a couple of weeks ago and found out he had upgraded to a full brick and mortar spot. I tried his ribs last weekend and immediately remembered why we spent those 2 years looking for him around town ! Simple and perfectly so well seasoned that the BBQ sauce is almost unnecessary. You can actually taste the smoke flavor unlike so many BBQ joints who boil the meat first (thus remove flavor) and later drown everything in an ocean of salt and BBQ sauce. For those who believe that less is more and that good food is like a naturally beautiful woman who doesn't need excess makeup to shine, then The Shack BBQ is your spot !

Great BBQ and great service!!! We ordered ribs chicken and whiting with all the sides. Beat sides were the mac, broccoli, fries and baked beans. Peach cobbler was good too!!! I’ll definitely be back!!!!

First time and I was pleasantly surprised. Had the leg quarter. I don't know what's up with that tiny side of beans but fries were great, bbq sauce was great, chicken was great. Overall great first experience. Will definitely try again.

On top of the food mastery going on at The Shack, the staff is so friendly and efficient. Finding this place has been a dream. I’ve been watching, Face the Chef’s process of building what is now The Shack for over 25 years now..I can remember when all he had was an old pickup truck pulling a grill on the back. He was actually one of the first ones doing that back then. Through trail and error, location after location, that day finally arrived. That one spot, that Heart of Atlanta Location. Hey Ma , we here now!! Mouth watering Brisket, Butter dripped Lobster tails made to order. Mac and cheese…….. oh yea that Mack and cheese. And yes they are VEGAN FRIENDLY. Visited for the 1st time and was pleased with the chicken. To me, if bbq’d meat REQUIRES sauce that means it’s lacking flavor..The men on this grill KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING; the chicken was superb. I ate it with and without the sauce (mostly without) because it was so delectable... The sides however were a no go for me, hence the 4stars rather than 5; I couldn’t give it 3.5 STARS which is my preference. As someone mentioned in a previous post, they had a “recycled” taste to it.. I had yams & mac n cheese and both tasted days old. Other than that, I’ll be back for the meat but not the sides.. BTW, if you are a person that frequent Jay’s, The Shack’s meat is more flavorful, you don’t have to wait hours, and the prices are reasonable.. Enjoy.

Great service and amazing food. I love supporting any black businesses and I will definitely be back. You can't go wrong with any options. They were also playing some old school music like the isley brothers which gave me a real bbq cookout vibe. DID I mention the prices are so reasonable. We got a little bit of everything and the candy paint sauce is a must. I definitely found my weekend go to spot.

THIS. IS. IT. Best chicken I've ever had. Best jerk chicken I've ever had--hands down. By far the best in Atlanta too (I think I've tried them all). The new Jamaican guy is their secret weapon! Try his black beans and jerk burrito as well. Incredible! If I wasn't on a diet I'd try the whole new jerk menu. Its THAT good!

Discovered this "SHACK" about a week ago. Today, I'm calling in (beats waiting in line which is growing daily) my 3rd order. I have now had the whole chicken, pork ribs along with incredible mac 'n cheese and creamy coleslaw. Going to try the beef today. I still think it should be illegal for this place to be closed on Tuesdays! A hidden gem...

I've never really liked bbq (to the embarrassment of my mom, whose favorite food group is pulled pork, and entire South Carolina family). Chicken is boring and tasteless. I think properly cooked and seasoned meat doesn't need a sauce to hide it, so the sugary sweetness of glorified ketchup never appealed to me. Enter The Shack. The best bbq in ATL. When my parents first visited years ago, I took them to Daddy D's and I was *embarrassed.* Community is OK, but it's far away and pricey. Fox Bros? Please. I have no idea why they are so popular. Wypipo and their raisins. Having eaten at The Shack, I will never go back. I didn't want to post this review, because I don't want my secret spot getting out, but they deserve it. The sweet potatoes: glorious. Savory and sweet, I thought about them every day, after our first trip. Perfectly mashed, somehow. The baked beans: another pointless side usually, but a deliciously seasoned option at The Shack - on the sweet side, and vegetarian. Garlic potatoes were fine, not garlicky enough for me. The collards (no pork) and coleslaw are OK, the broccoli and cheese is excellent. Real cheese and broccoli (not like, a ladle of cheese sauce from Sysco), cooked just to perfect al dente. The brisket is so tender, not stringy and dry. The chicken...they get the most perfectly smoky flavor in the meat, and then top it with a vinegary red sauce that I also thought about, every day, after the first visit. They make it fresh every day - same as all the sides. I have no idea how they concocted a bbq sauce I find so amazing, but they did! I am not kidding when I say I thought about it every day and went back the next week. And the next week. And the next week...and tonight. He accidentally gave the mustard sauce, which I don't like as much as the red (usually I want mustard), but was still tangy and delicious. To top it off: if you're lucky you can snag a homemade dessert before they're all got, fresh from mom's kitchen. Pecan pie, strawberry cake, pound cake, red velvet cake. Tonight we had the pie, a crispy crust filled with filling and topped with whole pecans. Again, somehow perfectly sweet and just right. I hope they don't get screwed over by the bs Metropolitan sale and the ensuing gentrification of our neighborhood (our community is NOT your commodity!). I was hesitant to leave a review, I don't want my secret spot getting out! But they deserve every star, The Shack is Atlanta's BEST.

I’m a country girl who loves her grilled chicken without bbq sauce. If you can master flavor there’s isn’t a need for sauce, this place right here is the best spot in ATL for BBQ. They got it just right. The chicken was hot, moist and flavorful.. It’s hard finding real bbq, everybody wants to slap sugar sauce on the meat to cover up the lack of flavor. Not over here!! This is my new BBQ SPOT! Aesthetically it needs a woman touch but it’s real bbq’n going down over here!!
