I bought a 2020 Subaru Outback limited 9,400 miles, single owner, no accidents, in mint condition, with upgrades, just yesterday from Riley. John helped with paperwork. So far so good! Riley knew his vehicles spot on. I just happened to swing in, I’d done some research in advance, and Riley was prepared to help me out right away. Good job! As for the car, well, I’ll have to drive it around some more before I can report on that!

I had a great experience at Carter Subaru! I built my 2023 Forester through their online portal and worked with Steven Mackie, who is very kind, efficient, and was willing to answer any questions. I highly recommend both him and this location. My car took about a month to come in, and they immediately cleaned and inspected it so I could pick it up two days later. After working with Steven to submit everything online, it only took about an hour and a half to complete all the paperwork the day of pickup. I’m very impressed and happy to have this location in the neighborhood.

Lynette Rice was great to work with over the past 6 months. She was able to show me every trim level and option I was I interested in. Even with dealerships receiving low inventories, she did her best to let me see and test multiple cars during my buying process.
The finance staff was also very straightforward and not pushy. I ended up with everything I wanted and no over sells.

Let me start with saying I myself am in the business of Customer Care/ Service. Knowing how important it is, I was beyond blown away with Steven Paredes he answered an online request for a used car and I was able to get my very first brand new car when I was not looking at that due to my price range. We had a few bumps in the road along the way but him and his team were there with out fail. I would recommend him and his team time and time again. I will forever be a Subaru driver not because the vehicle its self but because the experience and service that was provided to me.

My husband and I are literally driving away from the Carter Subaru dealership in our new car as I'm writing this; we had such a good experience I just had to write a review on the ride home! We just leased our new Forester, and we couldn't be happier. We'd previously had an awful experience leasing from Toyota while we were living in Long Island, New York, but the process at the Ballard Subaru dealership was a polar opposite experience.
Steven helped us with the leasing process, which was quick and painless. We were in and out in about 1.5 hours, and everyone we spoke to was friendly and genuine. There were no surprise fees, and we were given quite a few tips on how to save money during the process. We were never pressured to make upgrades to our package, and Steven walked us through how to utilize every feature in our new vehicle. I highly recommend using this dealership!

I was referred to Carter from a co-worker that grew up in Seattle. I was able to stop in the dealership after checking out their inventory online, and right after I walked in I was greeted by Carlos Valdez who asked if he could help me out. We talked about the buying process and what would be needed from me and it really took the stigma that car shopping is nerve racking away right away. (I waited a long time because I had these pre conceived ideas that it would be an uphill process). He was super accommodating and patient and let me think about my options as long as I wanted. It was a zero stress environment with no pressure for a sale or any price haggling as Carter has no dealer mark ups which they then pass those savings on to the customer. Two weeks later I had all my eggs in one basket and was sure I wanted to make a purchase. The car I wanted was still available and I was able to secure the vehicle of my dreams. Purchase day came and my appointment was at 1:00pm, Carlos went over all the details of the sale and then all the really cool Subaru vehicle features in depth to make sure I knew all the functions which I appreciated a lot, and by 4:00pm he was putting my temp tags on my new Crosstrek. This car gives me so many more lifestyle options it's awesome. I can't stress enough how helpful Carlos is, it was like buying a new car from an old friend.

In 2004 I bought a Subaru Forester from Carter Subaru, had it serviced at Carter Subaru Ballard the last 18 years in a row, was happy with their sales and service, and got 202,000 miles on my vehicle. So now that it was time to buy a new vehicle, again I researched Consumer Reports, they still rate Subaru Forester as the best compact SUV. So I returned to Carter Subaru Ballard, worked by email and in person with salesman Steven Mackie, he did an outstanding job, it did not feel like a car sales pitch at all. Steven is respectful, informative, responsive, and a nice man. I am a happy customer with a new 2022 Subaru Forester, which is a great vehicle. In summary, I highly recommend Carter Subaru Ballard and Steven Mackie.

Great experience with the service department for my oil change appointment! Scheduling was super easy when I called. Lots of reminder emails/texts so I didn't forget. Andrea Jeffery is the one to ask for!! My old car was totaled while parked on the street (ugh!) so I found myself unexpectedly and unwillingly launched into the wonderful world of car shopping.
However, Andrea made the whole experience painless. I casually inquired about a car online and within minutes got a call from Andrea who seemed so excited to help me that I made an appointment to come in same day. This was my first time buying a car on my own and as a young woman car dealerships can feel intimidating. With Andrea's help I felt like I was in good hands the whole time.

I bought a 2019 Forester at the beginning of the year and it has been great! It did have some issues a few months later but the people at Ballard Subaru stood by their product and made things right. The salesperson who sold me the car wasn't that knowledgeable about the car and seemed new (maybe?), but that's ok! I would refer a friend or come back when I want to buy a newer car.

However, recently I had the popular Subaru battery issue and they told me they would not change it since it passed the test. After another jump start frustration I went to another dealership and they solved the problem since their test indicated my battery did need a change. I sent Bill probably 20 emails throughout the process of our car buying decision and to my surprise, I ALWAYS received a quick, friendly response with the answers to my questions attached. He didn't poke, prod or push us to make a purchase in any way. We originally planned to buy used but after a month of test drives and research, we decided on a new 2021 Subaru Forester Sport and that's when we contacted Carter Subaru in Ballard. We live an hour and a half away so Bill worked with us to make the transaction as seamless as possible and I never thought I'd say this but buying a car from Carter Subaru was easy and even enjoyable! I brought my pup who made her fair share of friends, too, and was even welcomed with treats and a water bowl. Bill took the time to educate us and he was professional, honest and fair. The service I received here was good and the sales folks were friendly and not pushy. My issue is that they have done nothing to remove homeless tents right near their business. Sk for removal by the city and/ or put out flower boxes to avoid reentry. I was scared going to the lot as one for the persons was very high! It's up to individual citizens to also change the way the city handles this problem. I should not be uncomfortable making this large of a new purchase. Contribute to housing funds etc and clean up your business pls!

The story begins with us taking west coast travel trip… Starting off in Los Angeles ending in Seattle… Part of the trip was done on the train… While searching for rental cars we could not believe the pricing of what the cost of rentals were going for in Seattle… In Los Angeles they were half the price… As we are Subaru owners.. we wish we could just rent a Subaru after a little googling to find out if any of the rental cars companies what does Subarus we came across the Subaru rental site… After plugging in information we come to find out that the Ballard car dealership was only 3 miles from our hotel they were part of a rental Subaru program… After comparing the prices we realized how much cheaper it was to rent the car we already own.. So we put our name and information down and decide to go for another Subaru Forester... As we are happy with the one already owned in New York.. ( 2020 forester ) not even a year old we have over 10k on it .. we arrived at the dealership early in the morning sign the paperwork and off we went… And off we went we sure did go first stop the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon… Off to Mount Hood… Timberline Lodge… Drove back to Seattle… Next day drove to the Canadian border the peace arch park and all over North Western Washington… The best part he was in a car we already knew… We were comfortable in it… Even though it was not the touring package that we have already it’s a great car with great gas mileage great comfort and a car we can trust in any kind of conditions we throw at it!

I just picked up my 2022 Outback today. I worked with Tony and had the best experience I’ve ever had at a car dealership. Tony was transparent & honest with me about every detail and step in the process. I didn’t feel like he was trying to take advantage or upsell me anything. I expressed interest in an Outback that was in transit to the dealership & he kept me updated on the status of it. He was also incredibly prompt to reply to any questions or concerns I had. He showed me some cool features in my car and some tips for being a first time Subaru owner.
Tony never pressured me into buying anything I didn’t first express interest in purchasing.
I did choose to go through the loan paperwork process myself in person with my own credit union so I just brought the checks from my credit union to the dealership. The process was incredibly fast.
The only thing that I didn’t really vibe with was when I was speaking to the financial guy, I told him I understood the value of an extended warranty & planned on coming back in a couple weeks to purchase one- and he tried to tell me to just put it on my credit card. I was putting a $10k down payment on the car & wanted to wait a few weeks for when I had the finances to pay for the warranty without going further into unnecessary debt. I didn’t think it was tasteful for him to suggest that.
BUT after I explained to him I didn’t want to do that, he didn’t pressure me any further.
Overall though- a great experience & I would recommend anyone to this dealership & to work with Tony!

The process was completely on my timeline - I visited the dealership several times and never felt rushed or pressured. There was continually an open line of communication, and my car was ready to drive off the lot and take home when they said it would be. I've been coming here for the whole time I've owned my Forester (12 years I guess?). It continues to be fantastic. They fix issues and maintain things well, without over-recommending or over-charging. And their customer service is fantastic. They're polite despite my lack of knowledge about cars. I see the same level of patience and respect with other customers. They're great about slotting in service times when they have gaps too. It's nice to see familiar faces there too - typically Mini happens to be the one to help me, but others do too from time to time. This kind of service makes me comfortable with buying a Subaru for my next car, whenever that will need to be (knock on wood!) Thanks for continuing to be great!

This is a long review... Long story short is that after initially feeling dissatisfied with a preowned Forester I bought from Carter in December 2021, they went above and beyond to make sure I was happy, and were able to trade me into another vehicle in May 2022 that met and exceed my expectations. Nearly five months after my first purchase, I wasn't feeling happy with the car I'd bought and they made me an excellent trade in to make things right. Sales Manager Zach Clements took outstanding care of me and I would highly recommend him to anyone considering doing business with the Carter dealership in Ballard!!
So, the story... I bought a 2015 Forester from Carter back in December 2021. Due to the competitive used car market, I was able to purchase the car before it cleared inspection and hit the lot. So when I picked up the car about a week after paying my down payment and signing for my loan, I hadn't actually seen it yet, I had just seen photos on the Carter website. Unfortunately there were several things about the car my sales rep (not Zach) hadn't told me prior to picking up the car, and that weren't pictured in the advertisement photos. Specifically, the sales rep hadn't informed me that the previous owner had a dog; that there was fairly significant dog-related damage to the rear cargo area; and that the factory stereo had been replaced and so the steering wheel controls didn't work. In addition, the car was VERY dirty — seats/interior where caked in dirt, door jams were filthy, etc. — and I spent a lot of money having the car detailed after driving it off the lot. After driving the car ~1,900 miles over about five months, I was still feeling frustrated with my experience and wasn't happy with the car. So I called Carter to register my complaints...
This is where my experienced went from less than satisfactory to some of the best customer service I've received anywhere. Five months after my purchase, I was able to trade in the Forester and Carter gave me an excellent trade in deal so that I had very little costs in trading out of my Forester and into a preowned XV Crosstrek. I left the lot with a car that I was very happy and impressed with, and that met and exceeded my expectations for a preowned vehicle. Sales Manager Zach Clements listened to my concerns/frustrations and went above and beyond to make my experience right.
I can't say enough for how Carter completely made up for my negative experience buying the Forester in December 2021. They surpassed my expectations for customer service in making things right. I will be back to do business with them the next time I'm looking to buy a car!

I had a really good experience at this dealership. I was in the market for a 2022 BRZ in December and I called all over America to find one.
The overwhelming majority of dealerships were charging an insane amount of markup (anywhere from 3k-20k) but this was the only dealership that had no markup. They were very honest about how they do business.
They also happened to have the exact car I wanted and were extremely transparent about the buying process. Even all the way to delivery, I had absolutely nothing to complain about.
All of this is due to Craig who provided great customer service and was very communicative about every step as we went through it. As a result of that, this is one of the only businesses that I would recommend to my friends.

The difference between my experience buying a car with Carter Subaru which was great vs buying a car at other dealers in the past which were not as great came down to our sales person, Lynnette Rice.
Lynnette is very patient (it was 3 months from our initial visit until the time we bought the vehicle), she is very upfront about pricing (whereas other Seattle area Subaru dealers were annoyingly not as upfront about their pricing), and she works hard to make the actual buying experience as seamless as possible. In terms of the latter, specifically, she listened to my concerns about my previous car buying experiences and what I did not want repeated, and she worked to streamline the buying process by prepping people or even cutting out people in the purchase pipeline in order to cut time as well as unnecessary haggling/gimmicks.
I walked out of the dealer happy with a smile on my face, which I believe is pretty rare.
CON:
Importantly, if I were rating Carter Subaru based solely on my interactions with Lynnette, I would have rated my experience a 5 star. However, I am rating Carter Subaru Ballard a 4 star overall because the dealership is just too small with too few finance managers. We purchased the car on a Saturday, on my day off and the first day of my vacation, and the dealer was crowded with lots of vehicle and people traffic, which got in the way in many ways including firstly from finding parking in the dealership because the driveway was blocked with traffic (we had to circle around Ballard to find street parking) and lastly from finalizing our purchase quickly because we were in a long cue for finance. It took 3 hrs to buy our vehicle, and most of that time we were waiting to talk to the finance guy, which took only 10-15 min. Even though Lynnette had nicely prepped the finance guy about what we did and did not want, talking to the finance guy tired is never a good thing. I'm sure that the entire buying process could have been completed in 30 min.
TIP for buyer:
Although I had a great experience in terms of buying the car and very highly recommend Lynnette and Carter Subaru, until Carter hires more finance staff and makes a bigger dealership, I suggest avoiding the weekend crowd and wait times by just asking Lynnette about the least busy times to finalize a purchase.

I had a great experience buying a new Crosstrek from Carter Subaru. I had go online to the main Subaru site and selected the model and options I wanted. I was out of town during the whole time, but was able to work with our sales agent, Edin Jakupovic, to negotiate a fair price and get exactly the model and options we wanted. Edin was even able to get the exact model we wanted available to pick up on the day we returned to Seattle -- just when we needed the new car. We have had the car for 10 months now and love the Crosstrek, including taking it on a cross country road trip in April. All in all, a great experience.

I bought a used 2018 Impreza from Edin in the spring and have been so pleased with the level of attention and service. Edin took care of all the registration and loan paperwork so all I had to do was sign. I took the car in a bit later and he had the new license plate put on for me. He was super patient with me -- this is my first car -- and remembers me whenever I go back in. I've taken my car in for service once (there were rocks stuck in the wheels from a gravel road mishap) and they significantly discounted the service after the fact because it was a straightforward fix. They also gave me a loaner Impreza but I didn't even need it as the service was quick.
I didn't do a whole lot of price comparison so I might have paid a bit of a premium, but they make everything so easy that in my mind it's worth it. They provide consistently friendly and professional service and I feel I can trust them. They're also careful with Covid precautions, which I really appreciate. Thanks Edin and the rest of the team!

I was very happy with my buying experience from Carter Subaru of Ballard. The no-pressure sales staff was very easy to get along with. I worked closely with Sarah and Bill. We looked at a few different models and options and settled on the perfect car for me. They were very honest and up-front which I appreciated.
I had previously visited a handful of other dealerships in my search for a new or pre-owned Subaru CrossTrek. Those experiences were not as pleasant. I encountered sales staffs that seemed more focused on pressuring me into a quick sale than actually working with me to find the right car match. In one situation, I had trouble getting my keys back from a sales staff from another dealership after they quoted my trade-in car.
The staff at Carter Subaru didn’t employ any of those old fashioned sales tactics.
I was also pleased with the finance options and price of the car I purchased as well as the value I received on my trade in. After I purchased the car, Bill walked me through all the features and checked in on me a few days after I left the dealership.
Based off my experience, I would highly recommend Carter Subaru to others looking to buy a new car.

Took my Forester in for 12k service a couple of days ago, and received very poor service. Though I had an appointment, I was told it would be a couple of hours due to service volume and I waited patiently at the dealership. I checked in with the service rep more than an hour in and was told they were just starting work on my car. I checked in again at the two hour mark and was informed that they had lost the keys. This never came until I asked them. They offered me a loaner and told me they might have to order new keys if they couldn’t place it. Since this didn’t work logistically, I insisted on them looking for the keys and 45 plus minutes later, they gave me the keys back without having worked on the car. All in, I waited three hours at this dealership for no good reason. The manager and the service rep offered insincere apologies and told me I could bring it in another time to get it serviced for no charge. The lack of sincerity, transparency and honesty was just so off-putting that I will not be returning here again.

My wife and I recently visited Carter Subaru in Ballard. Our goal was to look at 2020 Forester’s. Carter sales consultant, Lynnette Rice, assisted us through the process. What struck us immediately about Lynnette was her pleasant and professional demeanor and that she clearly listened to what we were interested in.
Lynnette gave us the space to talk amongst ourselves and view cars, in private, and answered our questions when asked. There was never a hard sale. What we received was a no pressure, consultative sales experience.
During the test drive, Lynnette explained various features of the car, showed us some of the unique capabilities of the Forester and answered our many questions. Upon returning from the test drive we knew that we would be leaving with the car.

We bought a 2019 Forester from Steven Mackie at Carter Subaru a few weeks ago, and the process was pretty good overall! Steven is a great guy and took the time to explain the cars features and the various trims fully. We initially went in on a Saturday and were given a price for the car we wanted, but then I went home and emailed several other Subaru dealerships in the area to see what they might be charging for the same car. It was about $1k less than what Carter was offering, so I went back to Carter the next day and showed them their competitors prices. They agreed to match that, and both parties ended up being happy. Looking forward to continue working with Carter!

Even though service was closed on a Sunday, Ashley was very helpful in getting my car there and written up to be looked at first thing Monday morning. Bought a 2015 Forester 3 weeks ago with Carter Subaru Ballard. Very pleasant buying experience - easy price negotiation through email. When we arrive at the dealership, Bill took great care of us. The most important things are: (1) He honored the price we agreed upon through email with no hassle and absolutely no hidden fee; (2) The car is in extremely good condition - only 6 miles on it. The finance process is very easy and pleasant too: they agree to match the APR I quoted from a credit union.

Got a great price on a new Subaru Corsstrek! COVID precautions are pretty good (everyone had masks, desks are spaced well apart, you can test drive alone if you have proof of comp/collision insurance). The salespeople tend to want to talk with you closer than 6 feet but the finance people are excellent at staying distanced! And the pick up experience of the car was super fast, we were able to skip all the "here's the info about all the features" stuff since I already knew about all the tech!

I bought a 2015 Outback here and overall my car buying experience here was pretty dismal, almost to a point that I never wanted to return.
But I gave their service center a shot and they are absolutely top notch and redeemed Carter Subaru Ballard as a business. I can always count on the service team to be diligent, professional and most importantly, fix car problems. Even with the most mundane issues, the service advisors and technicians are perceptive to identifying the problems and finding a solution.
Service is a tad pricey, but definitely worth it to know that your Subaru is in good hands. Also they typically have coupons on their website and emails to bring the price down. Definitely would recommend service here for all the Subaru owners in town.

Adjusting previous review... I brought my car in for a regular service and an additional battery test as it had died the week prior. They changed the fluids, did the safety inspection, and battery test. The battery itself was dead and they swapped it out. What they didn't mention was that there is a recalibration period where the car will idle rough for a bit afterwards if you change the battery. I had not been told and had a longer drive planned that I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do without damaging my car. I tried calling 10-12 times at different times of day and only was able to get through to a person in sales who told me to call back to the service desk. Fair enough, but there's no way to leave a message. No call back. No way to get in touch about potentially urgent issues. I understand busy, but I can't rely on this if I have an issue. Even if it's just asking a question on the phone. This could be fixed by just having a way for them to call me back at the end of the day or next time they have a tech between services. If that's not an option, hire more people. It's clearly busy enough.
Scheduling a service a month out is fine, but for everything else, might as well go elsewhere.

This last time, we worked with Victor Nebre and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the car. Carter worked with us on our trade in and gave us a reasonable return. Just purchased a car through Carter Subaru Ballard and I can say it has been the best car purchasing experience I have been through. I had been looking across the entire west coast for a specific car with specific options for a few weeks and finally found it. I contacted a salesperson, Lynnette Rice, and spoke with her about the vehicle condition, price, etc. She was extremely helpful as well as knowledgeable about the vehicle. I stayed in contact with her over the next few days while looking at all of my options. Not once throughout this entire experience did she take on the typical "car salesman reputation" of being forceful or pushy about selling me the vehicle. Finally decided this was the car I wanted, arranged my travel to Seattle, and even received a ride from the airport to the dealership. The car was exactly as described in the photos, listing, and from the conversations she and I had regarding the vehicle. She met the few small requests I had before purchasing the vehicle and sent me on my way. I was fairly hesitant about purchasing a vehicle that was out of town, but after this experience, I wouldn't hesitate doing business with Carter Subaru again!

I recently moved to Seattle from San Diego and was the owner of a very fun and sporty mini cooper. Seattle proved to perhaps not be the best place to own and have a cooper sit outside (as it was a convertible). Carter Subaru in Ballard was the first place I went to for my search in a new and upgraded car. I also feel its important to add that this was my first time purchasing a new car on my own so I was a bit nervous and didn't want to feel pressured. I was able to peruse the lot for a bit and then was greeted by Bryan (the salesman). Bryan was increadibly easy to talk with and learn more about all the Subaru's on the lot. We were able to test drive a Crosstrek and Bryan showed me all the features a Subaru has to offer. Throughout the process Bryan was completely honest and not pushy. I felt comfortable with Bryan and trusted him with his recommendations. I noticed that there was no reason for Bryan to sell me the idea of a Subaru as the car sold itself while I was test driving it. To shorten this review I ended up purchasing a 2019 Crosstrek and have not yet regretted having a little car payment. If you are looking for a new car you def should consider Subaru in Ballard AND also ask for Bryan!! Thanks Bryan and Carter Subaru.

Buying our Subaru at Carter Subaru Ballard was surprisingly a smooth experience. We worked with sales person Andrea Jeffery, who was a straight-shooter and did not pressure us. We have recommended her to other friends and family. We did not experience the "bait and switch" tactics that some dealers do and why car salesman are sometimes thought of as sleazy (e.g. we had this type of bad experience with a family member going to family to Rairdon's Subaru of Auburn Subaru a few years ago).
We also took advantage of a the opportunity to meet with Vince Fejeran at this dealership after buying the car. He answers technical questions on the cars - he had in-depth technical knowledge and was able to answer questions the manual doesn't answer, including details on adaptive cruise control and how to get the radio to not turn on by default. He also offered to answer any other techncail questions in the future.
If you want to buy a Subaru, I highly recommend Carter Subaru Ballard and especially Andrea. Great customer experience there.

My husband bought a car here so I will put his thoughts into this review too so it is a bit more balanced. He is the one who thinks Carter Subaru's worth five stars.
He was impressed that the representative who picked up his call was very friendly, responsive, texted him pictures of the car, kept him updated, etc. (Julie?) He thought the person who was in charge of the test drive and the payment didn't pressure him and was more negotiable than he thought.
To paint the picture for you, neither he nor I fit the usual clientele of this dealership or neighborhood. He went for the car and I just went to morally support him in his car-buying adventure (and possibly drive the old car back home). In case you are not familiar with the area, there is usually a decent amount of traffic and tons of people crossing the street, trying to find street parking, etc. Because we wanted to jump at this car, we went asap which meant it was Sunday during farmers market hours. We parked the car at the dealership and it was quite a maneuver to be spaced and oriented courteously. The dealership was quite clean, had a strange "welcome desk" that was basically useless, had a nice restroom, and had an interesting layout. We could hear other people buying their cars which felt like too much info (I suppose there is some amount of this at other dealerships too). Test drive was fine. Payment paperwork took quite a while (a few people in front of us and not enough staff??) so as someone who hates small talk, it was a bit straining. Then we went upstairs to finalize everything and it was freakishly clean and quiet up there, pretty cool. Having grown up in Seattle, I know a lot of people swear by this dealership but I personally have never wanted to buy a car here and probably never will. I guess my husband is happy with the car, which I suppose is the most important thing. =)

I am loving my new car and I went in today for my optional post-purchase "tutorial" with Vince and had another excellent experience. Vince knows every.single.function on the car and answered all my questions so that I am optimizing my usage of the many features and have everything set on the car to how I use it, how I load my kid, unload groceries, etc. I not only feel great about the price/value of my purchase, I feel great about the buying experience.

I recently decided it was time to trade in my existing vehicle for a new one (new to me at least). After hours of online research I decided to check out the car I had been eyeing online that was at the Carter Subaru lot in Ballard. I admit I hadn't bought a new car in 12 years and was feeling a little intimidated. As soon as I walked into the lobby I was immediately introduced to sales representative Lynnette Rice and all my anxiety went right out the door.
From minute one the experience was wonderful. I came in not really knowing what I wanted but had my eye on a car that was on their used lot. She took me out in some newer cars but as soon as I got in the one I had been eyeing we knew it was a match! She didn't try to push me towards a newer more expensive car. She knew what kind of budget I was working with and made it happen. She was so nice, answered all my questions, spent extra time with me and didn't make me feel rushed (even when she had another appointment coming in), was so easy to talk to... long story short she was great and made me feel completely at ease while making such a large purchase.
The rest of the staff that I met through the process were all great as well and made this process a breeze. I would certainly suggest Lynnette (she's the best) and Carter Subaru to anyone looking to buy a car.

Was in the market for a new Outback since I was thinking about giving our son our 2006 Legacy Wagon. My wife and I really liked salesmen Mark Fry's low key style since we weren't quite sure we were going to give up our 2006 yet, especially since you can't get a Legacy Wagon any longer in the US. But we decided to go for the Outback and are now happy we did. The whole process was pretty easy once we decided to go for it. Mark and the rest of the Carter staff made it so. Glad we bought it from them. Might even consider taking it there for servicing even though I've got independent mechanics I like that don't require a trip through town to Ballard.

Well, to start this off I came in with the idea of trading up for a pre owned impreza. Brian who was my salesman pulled up the car and we started to discuss financing options. The bank came back offering a pretty high interest rate due to a negative equity I would have on my trade in. Brian suggested we start looking at options for a brand new vehicle. I explained that in my opinion that was out of the question and he responded with "let's just see what we can do". The next day I came back in. He had an idea of getting me into a 2020 impreza hatchback premium. With my doubts I said I did not think I could get financed within my budget. Well it turned out we were able to work in a financing option with a 1.9% interest rate. I was in disbelief, and without Brian and his team I dont believe that I ever would have been able to make this possible. Having only negative experiences with buying cars in the past, I'm likely to never use another dealership besides Carter again. Thank you guys for everything I could not be happier with my experience!

Carter Subaru in Ballard has a lot of very nice and good people working there. Having said that, as is true with negotiating with all car dealers, if you want to maximize your control of the true price that you are paying it is best to focus on either the price of the car you are buying or the amount of trade in allowance being allowed for your car. We recently bought a top of the line Ascent from Carter. The top end deal/price was great. However, for our spotless one owner Subaru Tribeca trade-in, the amount they offered was ludicrous. I said you are trying to make more on my trade-in car when you sell it than you are making on the $40K+ new car that we are buying. The proof of it is that they offered $3500 trade-in and we sold the Tribeca ourselves to the first of five people who wanted it in two days and at a price of $8600....More than a $5K swing.
Again nice folks, but, the trade-in talks were inexplicable as I was willing to let them make $2-3K which they would have selling it on their lot ~$9K at least.

I purchased a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek XV from Carter Subaru.
My customer experience started in May of 2012 well before the first vehicles were delivered for the 2013 model year. I sent an email inquiry about availability and received and immediate response from Tony Robertson. Tony and I corresponded mostly over email and talked on the phone a few times through the summer and into fall. He always responded to my emails in a very professional and timely manner. He included as much information as possible and answered all my questions. Even phone calls were followed up with email, and all emails were very detailed allowing me to keep a record of the entire process.
When the time finally arrived for me to reserve my car and go in for purchase, working with Tony in person was just as pleasant and straight forward as our email correspondence and phone conversations. On the day I purchased my vehicle, Tony helped me get a very fair dollar amount for my trade in. I was handed off to Tony Nguyen in Finance who also treated me well. I was not pressured or hard-sold on any of the insurance or warranty packages, and I was in and out of the F&I process very quickly.
I had a very good experience working with the Tonys at Carter Subaru in Ballard. I've had very poor customer experiences at dealerships before, and I can honestly recommend working with these two gentlemen at this dealership.

My prior vehicle sold and was picked up 2 days earlier than expected leaving me carless. Furthermore when I went back to the local dealer the car I wanted was gone! I looked at stock all over the Puget sound area and only Carter had stock of the dark grey non-sunroof model Impreza sport I wanted. Despite them having the only ones, we negotiated what I felt was a good deal over the phone/email. They got the financing approved and all ready to sign. I took a 2 hour greyhound ride to Seattle after work and caught a cab to Carter which they reimbursed me for since they couldn't pick me up. I'm really picky and don't like to see dust, sticky lines from the protective wrap the cars ship with, dirt or whatever in the footwells, as I am buying a NEW car. I arrived fairly late to find my car impeccably clean, prepped, and ready to go. I couldn't find my insurance card and the salesman bent over backwards to get ahold of my provider and get a copy faxed over so we could complete the sale. Numbers on the documents were as agreed upon no games or extra $$$ snuck in there anywhere when I went to sign the papers. I have 21K miles on the car now a year later and it's been flawless.

Eric Holmstrom went above and beyond what I could have hoped for. My car was looking at having a good bit of work done, and luckily my bumper to bumper warranty was still active. I can't begin to describe the nightmare that followed trying to make a claim. Eric and I both were making several calls each day trying to push this along so that I could get my car fixed. The amount of time Eric put in, was above and beyond what I could have ever expected. In the end, Eric called Subaru, to which they decided to cover the entire cost of the car because that's the type of company subaru is. Been to many shops for test drive and I can say Will Kopatich from Subaru Ballard was the most kind, helpful and respectful car salesperson I met in Seattle/Lynnwood/Bellevue area. He was a huge factor why we I ended up buying a Crosstrek (with all the options) from these guys and I'm more than happy I bought the car through Will.
We had to wait for about 3 hours in the queue as they only had 1 finance guy handling all the sales on Saturday. I'd encourage you to go during the weekdays if you're going to buy a car.
I haven't experienced the service centre yet so I'll come back to comment on it once I get my car serviced.

I'm writing this because about 1 week into owning the car my check engine light came on and a wrx buddy said drive it to work and see if the light goes off. Which I did and it went off. But it returned on and off again shortly after and my research online showed it being an o2 sensor. Long story short I made an appointment to get it looked at and they replaced my sensor and also fixed my alignment as a good gesture. They also paid for my Lyft back home from the shop after dropping the car off. Great service and great people. Would highly recommend.

What great service here. Nothing but smiles and helpfulness. If you are looking to check out some Subaru's, then head over here. They make sure you are full accommodated while waiting for paperwork to be finished, have ample seating and TV's to watch in the waiting area. They have a pretty good selection of cars, but can trade with another local dealer if they don't have one. I can't speak enough about the service though, great people and so informative. Make sure to test drive some cars because they will make sure it's a good fit before you even start talking about anything.

I walked into Carter Subaru in Ballard expecting the usual car sales treatment I have been getting. I had been shopping around to many different dealers around town in the hopes of replacing my beloved Mazda. I went to University Mazda, University VW, Walker Subaru Renton, Toyota of Seattle and Walker Mazda Renton. At each dealer I got the usual insult of an offer on my trade in, and the high pressure sleazy salesman trying to force me into purchasing a car i didn't want or like. Walker Subaru tried the "let's talk to my manager" tactic expecting me to be intimidated into buying a car. University VW even held the keys to my car and made me speak to the manager to get my keys back!
You won't get any of this treatment at Carter Subaru in Ballard. My experience from walking in the door was the exact opposite of other dealers. When I wanted to be left alone to play in the cars, I was left alone. When I had any questions, they were answered promptly and correctly (I do all my research beforehand, and half my questions are tests. wink wink).
My sales assosciate, Lynnette Rice, was new at the job, but you wouldn't know it. She was very knowledgeable about the car I was interested in and in no way pushy or agressive. She got me the exact car I wanted, with added options, for a greeat price. Her follow up after the purchase was also very good. If you're the laid back type, make sure to ask for her. She's not like the others.
Bottom line: I'd buy from them even if i wasn't to keen on the car. It's a good thing Subarus and VWs are great cars!

He listened to our needs, counseled us when we asked for it, and helped us find our way to the right decision. We led, and he guided, there was zero pressure. When it came time to replace my 23-year-old car, I balked at the thought of having to go to a dealership and suffer through the pushy, arrogant, ramblings of a car salesman...luckily, I got exactly the opposite with Brian.
I knew the exact kind of car that I wanted - and Carter happened to have a used one on their lot (a non-Subaru). I thought for sure I would get something like "this car is great, but Subaru makes a much better version of this..." but Brian was just there to answer any questions I had, and make the process easier for me. He was not pushy AT ALL, and was very personable - and not in a cheesy "I just want to sell you a car" kind of way.
I am very happy with my car, and I will definitely go to Brian when I need a new one...in another 20 years!

Unfortunately, while my spouse (they/them) was waiting for me outside (did not come inside due to covid), another employee loudly made fun of them and called other employees over to laugh. This went on until I walked out (5 minutes+). It was mortifying to me. My partner was standing on the sidewalk minding their own business and being bullied from inside. My middle schoolers do not even act that way. Disappointed, but will ultimately return because it's about the service for my car.

After 7 years and a long road trip from Austin to Seattle, I decided to trade in my Toyota Corolla. I had been investigating the Crosstrek for a few months and finally went in to Carter to test drive. After having a somewhat unpleasant experience at another dealership, I was relieved when I meet Cresta. She helped me with the entire process and was so patient and easy to work with! I test drove and left, expressing the desire to think about her offer. Crosstreks are hard to get ahold of because they are selling so fast and Cresta was super patient with the sale to be sure I got the car I wanted at the price we initially agreed upon. She fed me no classic car salesman lines and I felt like I was dealing with a real person the whole time, which took about a month to get the car I wanted. She was even available after hours via phone, text, and email. Talk to Cresta if you want a quality car buying experience, not to mention the best price in WA state right now.

I leased my Subaru from Chaplin's who was bought out by Michael's Subaru in Bellevue, you are probably wondering what this has to do with Carter of Ballard... just keep reading.
I went into Michael's Subaru to inquire about changing my lease and seeing if they would be willing to take my 2017 Subaru Outback and then I would sign a lease on a different vehicle, that was more in my price range.
They (Michael's Subaru) looked at my vehicle and did this huge song and dance about how they were going out on a huge limb to help me out. How they were going to have to "pull some strings" as I had a very unusual request. After being there for 2 hours, and them working numbers, they showed me what "they could do for me, given my circumstances" My gut said RUNNNN. I took the paper and asked if I could go home and think about it. They, OF COURSE, did the whole "we are going out on a limb for you, and if you don't take this deal it may not be here tomorrow."
I RAN.
I am SOOOO glad I did. I didn't even get out of their lot before I called Carter Subaru of Ballard. They were EXCITED to take my fully loaded 2017 Subaru Outback. After meeting with Carter, I got a MUCH better deal and they were sooooo straight forward. No creepy song and dance. I even got to LEAVE the dealership without a slimmy sales pitch.
I still have not traded my 2017 in for the new lease, but I plan to THIS MONTH.
I will keep you updated, but folks this was a night and day difference and I will ONLY GO BACK to Carter of Ballard.

We purchased a used Honda CRV. The AC didn’t work when we received it but it was advertized with AC. They took the vehicle and performed diagnostics (Only because there were several mechanics who could work on a Honda) and determined that the vehicle needed a new compressor as well as coils. The cost was about $1700.
They took care of everything with no cost to us and ensured that we had a driver or borrowed vehicle for the time they needed to work. At the end it was a bit of extra work but given that I would have accepted a blue book cost adjustment they were above and beyond what we could have hoped for. Great service

Service side of the business is FABULOUS. Sales side of the business...not so much. They want to push you into what they have, not what you need, especially since VW has stopped manufacturing the Passat wagon for sale in the U.S. and Canada.
Most recently, when our 2001/2 Passat wagon finally died a noble death, the salesman repeatedly insisted on trying to sell us a Passat sedan--not an option with two large dogs and three children, but he kept at it. I found a beautifully maintained, mechanically solid 2009 Passat wagon elsewhere, she now goes to Carter's (who, ironically, was the original seller) for service.
I do not think that I would purchase another VW from Carter's, just because of the pushiness of the sales staff and their wholesale disregard of the customer's actual needs vs. their actual inventory. Sometimes you have to be honest and say, We don't have what you need, let me help you find a dealer who does, guys.

Got a great deal when I paid cash but it ended up taking 2 weeks before I actually got to take it home, instead of 2 days-which was what I was promised. Ended up losing the sale of my previous vehicle more than once. I got my money back, but very disappointed with the lack of transprancy.
