Honestly, the service was so good i was confused. “I’m sorry, you said you can send the car I picked out from Danvers to Maine for a test drive? At no cost or obligation? And if I buy the car and change my mind I can return it?” Seriously? Yes, it seems to be true. They delivered on every promise as advertised! In fact, they got me my dream car in time for Christmas. So impressed with Evan, Jennifer and the rest of the team. I have never felt so confident with a car purchase!

I will never go anywhere else to buy a car. This was my first experience with CarMax and it truly could not have been better. I had a specific car transferred from New Hampshire, and living a distance from Portland, they worked with me to schedule a time for me to come in and test drive the vehicle. I ended up buying it, and the process was so easy! The person I worked with was so welcoming, nice, and overall made me feel comfortable. No pressure, no silly negotiating, it was awesome! Definitely recommend.

Well all I can say is I wish I could give them 10 stars. My Wife went in with an appointment on December 21st after work and they were slamming. It was going to be over an hour wait and she told them that she didn't realize it would be so long. They were very nice and told her she could go online to start the review of her 2016 Ford Fiesta SE with 88k miles on it. We did and actually got a price which was excellent and an appointment the next day. She had about a 35 or 40 minute wait and met with Billy, who she said was excellent. They gave her the same price as the online quote. Later that day she went to our Ford dealership to get their price and it was $1,200.00 LESS than what Carmax offered. So on the 23rd, on our way to pick up her new Ford Maverick, we went in and Devin the manager signed us in (he was very nice, funny and told us the expected wait time). We met with Bre and she was a pleasure to work with, we did the paperwork and they gave us a check. My opinion is this, they know what they're doing, they are very professional, nice people and gave us a very enjoyable experience. Do I wish it went quicker, of course BUT a $1,200.00 difference!!!!! Give them a shot for sure, if only for a competitive offer.

My first experience with CarMax in South Portland was earlier this month. I felt comfortable from the moment I set foot on their lot. I worked with Lauryn and she was AWESOME! No pressure. The cars on their lot are clean and all of the detailed information is readily available. My only disappointment is that the car that I purchased did not come with an owners manual. I hope that Lauryn will still be working there when I shop for my next vehicle.

I had a very good experience with Car Max. I had avoided car shopping because of experiences in the past of over-bearing salesmen. CarMax isn’t like that. You’re able to browse the lot and not be followed by salesmen. Everyone I dealt with there was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I found the car I wanted on line, went for a test drive and ended up buying it. I’m very satisfied with my experience with Car Max and I would definitely recommend them.

Non negotiable on price but so far I am satisfied with the vehicle and the 90 day warranty. The water pump failed the first week with 28k miles on the car. CARMAX covered all cost and communicated directly with the dealership who did the repairs.unfortunately the car will be in winter storage long before the 90 day/4000 mile warranty ends but so far so good!

He was also amazing to work with, answering every question that I asked. It took a while to get everything done, but it helped that Justin had well rounded customer service skills and the time we were there didn't feel like it took forever.

We had a car transferred from Mass three weeks ago. We received word that it was at the store within 3 days of transfer. Since then we have been told repeatedly through texts we initiate that ‘It’s not ready’. No reason given. We have purchased 3 cars at CarMax in different states and have always been pleased with the experience. Not so this time and we are not waiting any longer. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME! Update: CarMax finally came through and processed this car that we had transferred. We got to test drive and have our other car appraised last Thursday and purchased last night. There was a mix up by Carmax about our appointment last night but Elijah worked us in so that we could sell our Subaru and purchase the Accord. Thank you for going the extra mile to make sure this sale/purchase happened in a timely fashion.

The 5 stars is for your sales rep that handled my transaction to be shared with Alex Peters, one of your managers in So. Portland, Maine. This was my second Carmax purchase in 6 months and my criticism is the same...they do not know how to clean/prep cars for delivery...all I could see was a wash (no drying), a poorly cleaned interior, didn't touch the inside of the windshield or engine compartment.

Took 2 trips to sell my car. Day one we managed to get through most of the paperwork and everything then a technical issue rendered us stuck in the water. We were given compensation to go get lunch in hopes the issue would be resolved quickly, but unfortunately it was not. The next day we got a call that everything was back up and running and we scheduled an appointment that night. Trip two took about an hour and we left check in hand. I really appreciated the multiple update calls I received during the technical outage and never felt forgotten.

Fantastic experience with Geoffrey getting my car initially appraised. I had done an initial appraisal online, so went to the store for a confirmation. It was quick, ended up the same as the online appraisal, he explained the full process, and he scheduled a followup for us to bring the car back in and sell. Left feeling very happy with the experience thus far. Horrible experience with trying to reschedule appointment. Called and successfully rescheduled to later the same date. A day later I received a text indicating my appointment was still at the original time. I indicated I needed to change the appointment and they indicated they would call me (never did). Called the store soon after and we had no appointment at all, and had to schedule for the next day instead. Just really poor communication. The selling experience was very good, quick and very easy. The quote was much better than any other company gave, but the communication and scheduling was very poor so it knocks a full star off the review.

I had a wonderful experience working with Alex at Car max. I can honestly say that it was the best experience I’ve had when purchasing a car. No dickering over the price of my trade in ( offer was extremely fair). I liked that the price listed on the car was the price one paid with no negotiations necessary. Their prices are fair and it eliminated a lot of the headaches you encounter at a regular dealership. Alex was friendly and totally professional. I got a much better interest rate than expected and the financing process was a breeze. I was also impressed by how well my car was detailed- it was immaculate. Another great thing is that you can drive the car for 30 days and return ( for full value) if not satisfied and trade for another vehicle. Easy. Stress free. Quick. My experience with CarMax was above and beyond what I was expecting. I was greeted before I even set foot inside the building, and had a member of the CarMax team assessing my vehicle within 10 minutes. The whole process took around 30 minutes and I was on my way. I've sold a few cars to second hand retailers and have always been met with low offers, issues, and very long wait times - so I was expecting the same with CarMax - however, 30 minutes of my time was all it took. 100% recommended CarMax to anyone needing to sell a vehicle!

We bought the car without knowing a thing about Carmax, and it turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant experience. The car, a Scion xD, exceeded our expectations and our sales person, Jessica, knew her stuff. She did NOT try to hard sell us the extended warranty, very impressive. We had a 6 p.m. appointment. The process of selling our vehicle took about three hours. We were able to leave for 45 minutes to grab a quick bite to eat while they evaluated the car’s value and “took pictures “ of the vehicle. Kelly started the process and another sales agent completed the sale as Kelly was “in a meeting”. Overall it was a good experience and we will likely return in the next six months with another vehicle we would like to sell.

Communication with this company is horrible. You never know who you are talking to and they like to use texting as communication which things get kind of confusing. They also make appointments that you didn’t make.my sales guy Evan that I chose to deal with solely was great!the vehicle I purchased was ok,there are some issues that I will say carmax so far is making good on.all in all the communication is the worste I’ve ever dealt with purchasing a vehicle .I’m really leaning for two stars just for the communication, everything else was a 4. This review is also based on the reputation carmax wants to be perceived by as they advertise! Oh and one last thing they cleaned my truck and I lifted the back seat and it was like it had never been touched and again we’ll circle back to the perception carmax wants to be perceived by.

The overall experience was not bad, however it looked like we got stuck with a "Rookie" Sales person and the transaction took nearly 5 hours! I also believe that once the transaction is completed the sales person should go over and explain the main features of the purchased vehicle rather than just handing us the keys with "here is your keys - good luck"! You just may want to adjust your sales person training to include knowledge of the process, expediency and check out courtesy. .

We no longer needed our 2015 Toyota Camry as my wife no longer needed it and we both prefer my truck. I thought about selling it myself but with the advent of the pandemic I decided against being exposed to who knows how many strangers before it sold. I decided to see what my local Toyota dealer would pay for my car and what CarMax would pay for it. Smartest decision I made in years, CarMax's offer was $2500.00 better than the Toyota dealer. Their offer was close to what would have been my price for the car. My South Portland Maine CarMax team members Elijah and Caroline made the whole process of selling our Camry easy and stress free. I am very happy with the car I purchased. The purchase experience was OK. We had an appointment but had to wait 20 minutes when we arrived (we drove 2 hours to get there). I respect the no-haggle policy, but when I pointed out that our bank illustrated that the book value of the car was quite a bit lower than CarMax's price, the response was curt and honestly a bit rude. It would be a good idea to have some better responses prepared for those who question the sticker price. It was also tricky to get a hold of the local store - every time you call the "local" number, you're rerouted to their call center. It can be tricky to reach the same person twice. Again, the majority of the experience was fine, but I won't be rushing back.

Loved the idea of knowing the price...and being able to check it against Kelly Blue Book, before purchasing. I had a specific vehicle I was looking for and found it at a CarMax near Chicago. I gave it a test drive, loved it, and had it shipped to Maine. There was a crack in the Grill that I hadn't even noticed when I test drove it, but the local CarMax replaced it. My only criticism is that it would have been nice to have better communication around the repair. I could see that the car had arrived, but wasn't ready for purchase...so I eventually went to the local CarMax and finally found out why. But still, once the car was ready I was in and out within 2 hours. I sold my old car, and drove off my shiny new-to-me car. Overall great experience.

The overall experience with Car Max was great! No games, the price is the price. What I liked most of all is they will transfer a car from any of their other locations (all of them are out of state) for free. Once it's at their location, you either like it or not, they take the loss if you don't like it. Alanna was great to work with. She was receptive to us including our concern about how dirty the car looked on the inside. Once we decided to buy the car Alanna spent over an hour cleaning it just for us, that's service. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because there does seem to be a big push to buy their extended warranty. Alanna wasn't as bad about it as the guy who coordinated the delivery of the vehicle, he was very pushy about their warranty. Also when you call you get a national operator and it's hard to get a local person through them. Again overall experience of was great will buy from them again.

Had a great experience initially with the staff and easy buying process, however I have had issue after issue in these first 2 months of owning it. Luckily they’ve been somewhat minor, and Carmax has been good about getting them fixed, however we are still having on-going issues with our stereo even though they gave us a completely new one, supposedly. And fingers crossed our sunroof doesn’t leak again. Also, the battery just died conveniently after our limited warranty expired. I’m on the fence about recommending them to family and friends.

Awesome experience here. We shopped online and found the car we wanted in MD, then had it shipped to this location. We were more "buying" than "shopping," and I don't know that CarMax is the way you want to go if you prefer to drive four different cars and ask technical questions about them. We dragged our three kids under the age of four into this branch on a weeknight, and the staff got our purchase processed SO efficiently, with lots of patience for our big family. And speaking of waiting, the car I liked was in Boston and was transferred immediately to S. Portland. Then everything went silent. I had to wait 2 weeks to see the car. They sent me home with it for a test drive. It had a few things that needed fixing. They couldn't do it. It was a deal breaker for sure. Their solution was for me to take it to my local dealer and get it all fixed on their dime. And that did work perfectly. They still want to make sure I'm completely satisfied. I love my Mustang!

I was given the opportunity to look at all the vehicles on the lot while they reviewed my vehicle for a trade in value. As soon as the appraisal was done (I feel I received fair value for my trade in) I was able to test drive the vehicles I was interested in and I was provided information about previous owners and accident history, as well as any questions I had were answered. Easy transaction. Got a great car at a good price. Sales rep Evan Jahn was easy to work with. There was a bit of a glitch--the windshield had a little hole and a wide crack below the windshield wiper line which was not easy to spot and perhaps overlooked during the inspection process. Carmax sent a Safelite Glass crew to my wife's place of work to replace it at no cost to us. Very convenient. Incidentally, went on line to competitor Carvana twice over the past year or so. Wound up buying a pickup truck last September from a local used car dealer instead because Carvana listed a lot of vehicles that were "reserved" (not available) and really didn't have what we were looking for. It was as if large buyers were snapping up their vehicles in bunches, leaving little to nothing for small, individual buyers. It felt like when a big concert act comes to town and brokers buy up most of the good seats then turn around and sell them to concert goers at outrageous mark-ups. Definitely did NOT run into that kind of shenanigans with CarMax. What they listed was available. We will certainly consider CarMax again and will share our positive experience with those we know who are car shopping. It was fine in the end but we had a car transferred to Maine from North Carolina (and paid for that transfer) which got delayed by about 2 weeks. We were traveling out of the country when it came in. During this process we called and had several conversations with different people of course about the car and when we could come in to look at it and most likely buy it, which did not make it into our file despite being told that they would make a note. When we returned and called about the time we had set up previously to see the car there was no record of that appointment or that we wanted that car. They had not set aside the car for us but fortunately it was still on the lot. The employees at the Portland Maine store were very good to work with when we got there but the communication really needs to be much better.

Took 3 visits because Honda Financial site was down but finally got car sold. Everyone was very friendly except Michaela who I worked with on 2nd visit. She was beyond rude and got up and walked off without thanking me or saying goodbye. I was trying to come up with alternatives like calling the dealership to get the payoff...she said “we don’t do that” I tried to call Honda and give her the phone but she said “we need to call from our phone” but then wouldn’t try the call. She also asked me if I had tried going to Honda to see if they would buy the car from me. What??? All other staff I dealt with were superb and on third visit (which I had to take time off work for) the supervisor told the person helping me to call the dealer for the payoff. Wish Michaela had done that on my previous visit. Would have rated 5 stars if not for Michaela’s extremely rude behavior and negative, no can do attitude.

The sales staff were very nice, no pressure. However, after paying $23,000 for a used car I expected it to fully detailed. It was delivered to me with dog hair in the rear cup holders and window linings, spare tire compartment was full of mud and rocks, rusty brake dust covering the inner rims, and painted tape over one of the rear corner lights (from who knows what, they wouldn’t tell me, “normal touch up”). It then proceeded to have a heavy vibration over 50 miles per hour. It took many phone calls before they would actually speak to me on the phone (kept having to talk to a satellite location). Overall it was just sloppy and they seemed to take no pride in the condition of the car. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because Matt in the service center is amazing and when I dealt with him everything was taken care of.

I bought a 2015 Toyota RAV4 at the CarMax in Roswell GA on April 23rd. I had excellent service there and found my sales rep to be very knowledgeable and skilled during the whole appraisal/purchase process. I have just returned home to ME after my winter away and contacted the So. Portland dealer about drilling holes in my front bumper for the second license plate required here. They scheduled an appointment for that at no charge to me. While there for the license plate, it occurred to me that I hadn’t had a ME inspection; in GA only emissions testing is required. Again, since the inspection is something that would have been done had I purchased the car here, they took the car right back in and inspected it. Again there was no charge. I was extremely pleased with this service and feel they went above and beyond! I am recommending CarMax to everyone. I should add that I initially went to the GA CarMax on my son in law’s recommendation. He has purchased 6 vehicles there over the years and has only high praise for each transaction.

I felt the need to update my review from a 2 star to a 4 star based on new experiences with the CarMax in South Portland. About one month ago I purchased a 2011 Volvo C30 R which are relatively difficult vehicles to find. It was in the color I liked and had the mileage I was looking for so I applied to have it transferred from a CarMax near Atlanta Georgia. I completed the transfer process with Evan who was very helpful. Now before they have a vehicle transferred they have the associates at the location that you're transferring the vehicle from due another inspection. I had asked everything I could think of and asked Evan if he could recommend any questions that I should have asked but haven't yet. He recommended asking if anyone had ever smoked in it and I thought that was a great idea as I had forgotten and I am not a smoker myself and normally can't stand the smell. The volvo arrived at the South Portland location approximately 19 days later and they called me to do a test drive which I was excited for. For the rest of my interactions I mostly dealt with Alex who was also very nice and understanding and he brought me out to the volvo to take a look. Upon opening the door I could instantly smell a strong smoke odor which I confirmed with Alex that he could smell it too, but I was already there and I had already paid a massive transfer fee so I figured I might as well test drive it. About 2 minutes into the test drive there was this very loud clunking noise almost to the point where I wasn't sure the car was safe to drive. So in my mind I had paid over $500 to have a vehicle transferred from Georgia to Maine that smelled like smoke and was potentially broken in some way and I think I was understandably upset. However, this CarMax went ahead and waived my transfer fee and installed a new windshield as it turned out the epoxy had worn down on the windshield and that was the source of the clunking. I think this was a fair solution. I have had other issues with the car but nothing major and because I'm within my 30 day warranty they've taken care of me almost no questions asked which I appreciate. I think I was a little unfair to give this place 2 stars as they have consistently taken care of my issues which from what I can tell have been out of their control. I do think I should have been notified of the smoke smell before I was taken to the car as someone had to have noticed it from moving it into the parking lot. I also think that the windshield should have been caught before I test drove it, but it was taken care of and I'm not upset those are just things I would have expected. From what I can tell is that the Georgia CarMax deserves about 1 star but this CarMax deserves its 4/5 stars for basically fixing problems that the other location caused. I have been contacted by their management team so it was nice that they reached out.

The whole process was easy I sold my truck and had a car shipped from California then to Florida and then to Maine .My 30 Warranty is up.I bought the extended warranty through carmax so I am still covered.All an all I am a very happy customer.

Not as simple as it should have been. Ordered the car online, it arrived at the location, and I had an appointment to test drive/buy the car. Took time off of work and came in with wife and baby, only to find out they weren't ready for me (despite having the entire previous day with the car. They had ripped one of the tires in transport and they sent it off to get a new tire. Said they didn't even know I had an appointment (despite me having the confirmation email/texts from CarMax). They did offer to buy me lunch by way of apology (bonus points) but the local folks and the online sales agent both blamed each other for the screw up, not a great look for the business. In the end I got my car, 7pm instead of 11am. So eight hours of annoyance later I'm happy, but they charge a premium for an easy buying experience, in this case it was anything but.

Nothing but praise for the customer service we bought a 2014 ram big horn and a week went by when we found out it would not tow what we needed it to. Their policy is you can return it up to 5 days no questions asked. This was about 10 days and they still took it back for what we paid for it because they remembered telling us it would tow what we needed it to. We then found a 2015 GMC SERRIA 1500 v8 at another carmax in PA. They had it shipped to their office and waived the transfer fee.
