I’ve bought a couple cars from Tom’s and I’ve always had good luck. They have always takin care of me and my family. Im actually looking to buy a truck or SUV from there right now. They don’t ever pressure me and they are always there to answer my questions. I don’t have a ton of money so I like Tom’s because I always get a car that’s not gonna break down in my price range and that’s cool to know I don’t have to worry about it. Griffin, a great car sales man, helped me pick my perfect car. I took my sweet time and came back once or twice a week for a month. And he was so patient with me. Very satisfied! My car was recently totaled and I was having the hardest time finding a car with my credit not being the best ! I tried several different places with the short amount of time I was given to find a car as I had to take my rental back. From the moment I pulled up on the lot of Toms I was immediately greeted with great customer service! Bryan helped me and understood my situation and let me test drive every car I was interested in lol he made the process super easy ! I test drove a few cars Saturday , found one I wanted we started the process , he called a few banks Monday morning and got me approved !!! I picked up my car Tuesday !! Nice people, quick financing and got a warranty on a used car which I did not expect. We had an issue with the car about a week after buying it and Dewey took car of it by working with the mechanic. Good communication after the sale as well. The car I bought is for a teenager and they had a good selection of clean used cars with good mileage.

I bought a mini van from them recently, and almost immediately it started having overheating issues. Turned out the head gasket had failed. Took it back to them and told them the situation. They took it to their shop and ended up replacing the engine - at no charge to me! It's rare to see a dealer make something like that right. I don't give 5 star reviews unless there is exceptional service, and they earned it. I'd give them 6 if it were possible.

Get your used cars at Tom’s and ask for Dewey! Having always been a ‘used car lot’ skeptic, I came to Tom’s following my son on his quest for a car. He selected an ’06 Mustang from their impressively large selection. Dewey, our salesman, inspected the car with us and answered our questions well. He also helped us navigate the purchase process and made it quite easy and understandable – even for our 18-year-old son. Of course, given the age of this vehicle, there were some items we wanted to address – here is where I got another great surprise. Tom’s maintains association with several local shops to provide many different automobile services. We shopped around and found that these shops charged down to half of the other quotes we got. All the work we had done was very professional, quick, and reasonable. No longer a skeptic (regarding Tom’s for sure), I will be looking to Tom’s for the next used vehicle my family needs and recommend you do the same!

We Delt with Dewey he was very helpful and patience with us looking and trying all kinds of vehicles for our Son's first vehicle. And when we finally found one he was very helpful and informative and accomidating. We should have taken alittle longer at looking the vehicle over before driving it home. We did find a few minor things wrong with it but that is to be expected on a used vehicle. We are having our mechanic look it over to make sure it is winter weather safe. And we will fix the minor things eventually. But we had a really good experience and would recommend to our friends and family.

Overall I had a good experience with my purchase from Tom's. Salesman Dewey listened to and addressed my questions well. Negotiating my price was easy. The only suggestion I have is for them to take better pictures for online marketing. The truck I bought had some small scratches and a ding which weren't visible in the online pictures, but I was buying a work truck so for me those weren't a big issue but to other customers who drive to DSM from a distance it might be. Overall a great experience with this dealer.

We were looking for an old but nice quality car for our son (he would make the payments with his own income). We found a nice one at Tom’s through an online search so we came to check it out. Dewey was the salesperson who came out to help us and he was great. We liked the car too. Our only complaint is that I noticed that the AC did not work on the car and felt like a dealer should know about and fix something like that — or at least alert a buyer about it. It was a chilly day and I was lucky I decided to test the AC or we would not have found out about it until later. I’ve previously only bought cars from dealers that make sure everything is working so this was a surprise. I really hope there’s nothing else they forgot to mention or check! The good news is that when I asked about it, Dewey said they would fix it right away. The other thing I asked about they didn’t seem to know an answer to: I asked if the tinting in the front windows was within the Iowa legal limit (they seemed a bit dark). You’d think a car dealership that’s been in business a long time and sells thousands of cars a year would know the answer to that question. Other than those two things, the car seems great so far and they were able to get us a really good rate for the financing. I highly recommend Dewey. He is patient, helpful, and pleasant to work with.

So they have at least 3 different lots, so don't find what you want at one try another. Didn't know this until first lot had nothing we really wanted. Heading home we seen another and stopped, nothing there. Then we passed a third and stopped. And found exactly what we were looking for. Apparently turn over is so fast what we got hadn't even been put in computer yet. So make sure you ask to have the other lots checked before giving up. Staff was GREAT and a big Thanks to Todd.

I’ve always dreaded going and buying a car. Especially when it’s for your daughter. Rolled in to Toms on a Saturday ,and for starters couldn’t believe the inventory on the lot. The selections were triple the last place we had looked. Within minutes had a salesman’s tossing us a set of keys for a test drive and shortly after that we were driving it home! I have mixed feelings. The initial service was great and I felt great getting a truck from them. However, I bought the truck Friday and before Monday the service engine soon light came on. The person at the budget lot gave me some run around so I called the main lot and they set him straight. Turns out I needed a hose replaced, which they did. Not even a week later the same light came on and I'm too exasperated to call and fight through the run around again. Great initial service, horrible follow up.

Note: Below is the original review I wrote before I was contacted by Tom. I'm leaving it up for transparency, but Tom's has worked hard to fix my registration issue, so keep that in mind. Our purchase at Tom's Auto Sales went well. The salesman was good to work with and we got a decent deal on the car. I believe his name was Brian, but I don't remember since it was a month ago. Why am I writing a review a month later, you ask? Because they have yet to send our paperwork to the county to get our registration completed. It's nice that they offer this service, but I could have submitted it and had the registration and title in hand 3 weeks ago if I had done it myself. After speaking with the tag office, I found out they still had not received the paperwork. They instructed me to call Tom's and track down the paperwork. The tag office said dealerships have 30 days to send the paperwork in, and we were just under the 30 day mark. I called Tom's and the first guy didn't know what to do so he transferred me to someone else, which was fine. The second guy told me I have 45 days to get the registration in hand. I told him I was informed they have 30 days to get the paperwork sent in. His response to this was that he didn't know about that. I assure you, I'm not allowed to just "not know" things like that at my job, so I'm not sure why a dealership that sells dozens of cars a month would be clueless about these regulations. I gave him my phone number and he said he would call me back. Which, of course, he never did.

I walked away with a beautiful 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. While I was doing my test drive the check engine light came on and Tom's did not hesitate to offer to check and fix on the light. A few days later I noticed other small nuances that seemed mildly concerning, when I dropped the car off Tom's took full accountability to ensure this car was trustworthy and reliable. I put a hold on a vehicle and went to lunch while waiting on credit approval. Half way through lunch I called Griffin and told him I changed my mind and wanted to go with a different vehicle from which I put a hold on. Griffin was great and switch the hold to my new choice and did the paperwork to get approval for a different vehicle, all while I was at lunch. I bought a car from Tom’s a week ago, Bryan was my sales person. I had some cars in mind so I called ahead and they had the cars pulled up for me. They let me test drive the cars at my own pace and weren’t pushy for me to make a decision. While I test drove the cars they appraised my trade-in and were ready with a number when it was time to make a decision. The only thing I would change is that they had an AutoCheck but couldn’t provide me with a Carfax, which I would have preferred to check the maintenance on the car. After buying the car I brought it to my local mechanic and he said the car was in great condition for a used car. Overall very happy with my purchase. Will update review if necessary. 2-ish year update: The car I bought has been amazing. I have not had a single issue with it despite extensive road trips and a move from Iowa to California. All I do is oil changes and maintenance according to Mazda’s maintenance schedule. I would certainly recommend Tom’s.

Very Genuine Dealership. They are not trying to push you into the first car you look at. I bought an SUV that after purchasing we found out had a leaky headlight and the cruise control was not functioning. I got nissan to look it over and I was facing $3000 in repairs and parts. Well what was once a golden review has had to come down a couple of notches. Bought my car. Didn't even last a week and the transmission went out. Thankfully they did stand behind the car and promptly repaired it. This is why they get three stars. But.. Then a day later I realize there is now a leak in one of the power steering hoses. A major leak. Something that wasn't there before the transmission issue. Now I will admit I never called them about the power steering problem. Honestly I was just too angry. Plus I felt I could get it fixed faster on my own. Two major issues in less than two weeks of ownership. Not exactly great in my book. But my third and final issue is that my salesman couldn't even take the time to call me and apologize or assure me things would be resolved or anything.

Overall experience was great. The sales staff was great in not making you feel pressured into buying a vehicle, but they do NOT go over the vehicle to make sure it it safe. They did fix my air conditioner since I was unable to confirm this was working during the time of purchase. The people they sent me to for the repair were not nearly as attentive as the ones at the shop. I have now owned my vehicle for 3 months and have approximately the same amount of money for repairs needed that I paid for the car. I bought a vehicle they said was just gone through, but it is obvious they do not repair any safety issues. As Is Warranty is for a reason, make sure you check over the vehicle yourself or have your mechanic do it for you. $200 look over is much cheaper than $6,000 in repairs. The free look over would have at least caught that it needed breaks right away. I should have, but didn't, and will now pay for this vehicle for the 2nd time in its repair costs. (Still love my vehicle, though!)

Tom's was the second place I went to this time around and I wish I'd have been buying from them all these years. Hands down the easiest car-buying experience we ever had. We researched the car we wanted on their user-friendly website, went in for a test drive a few days later. The car was in the shop because they were fixing little odds and ends to ensure a great product for their clients and they gave us a mechanic's report on the vehicle. They went out of their way to arrange the vehicle's availability at a time that fit our schedule to test drive and collected all the Carfax and vehicle reports while we were testing it. My husband is a mechanic so he picked over it with a fine-tooth comb. Purchasing was a breeze. The best part was they WEREN'T PUSHY- it's the thing we all dread about car shopping. I know most people only write reviews when things don't go their way, so I just wanted to show someone who had an opposite experience. I was in the market for a moderately priced, used car and was having some trouble finding one. After scouring craigslist and trying to find something at the major dealerships, I decided to stop by Tom's. I was a bit leery at first, because it's sometimes hard to trust a name you haven't seen plastered around (at least I hadn't), but I ended up being very pleased. They had many cars in my price range and let me take my time test driving the vehicles. I ended up taking a few days to actually decide on a vehicle and even went back to looking at the "major dealerships" one last time... old habits die hard, I suppose. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with my purchase. I'm from a small town, and the experience reminded me of dealing in one of my hometown auto marts. I don't feel like got a "steal" or that I got ripped off. I got a good vehicle at a fair price.

3 stars for saleman Griffin, he was great , very helpful and had no problem showing us every car we wanted to see...but the 1st 2nd and 3rd car we asked to see had a check engine light. The 4th car had no check engine light so i test drove to my mechanic and he showed me it needed $1000 in repairs. (I highly recommend taking your cars to Midas on Euclid before you buy a car, Manager Steve will take care of you) I went back and advised Griffin that he was asking $6,000, KBB was saying $4700 fair price and along with the repairs needed I offered $4000(technically Should of been 3700) for the car. Tom offered me full sticker price($6000) and he would fix the issues or he would take 400 off sticker price , making it $5,600... no deal so we thanked them and left.

Purchased a SUV. Dealers were courteous. Just some shoddy body work was done on it which I didn't see when I looked at it. Bumper panels were glued on, which fell off shortly. Trunk handle was clipped in there, when there was obviously a screw in there. Someone was too lazy to just screw it in and fix it. Transmission and oil were black and coolant reservoir had a broken connection. I always expect problems with used cars, but if you want to rate a dealer ship, you rate it by the oil that comes out of their cars.

I found my current baby here about a year and a half ago my very first and only day of my car search, test don't 2 others before spotting my dear Felecia Fusion and it was like love at first sight! I took her around a few blocks and in an instant the deal was sealed and I was sold, all in! A couple hours of background and credit checks, signing autographs, and going over the terms of the contract and other various financial information later and I was on the verge of taking her home with me to meet my parents! We've been almost inseparable ever since and seem to make a pretty damn good team! Anyways, the staff here was amazing to work with, my service was absolutely exceptional and they worked super hard and really fast making sure that we were taken care of and all the T"s crossed and I's dotted and I've been totally pleased and extremely happy with my choice ever since! Tom's offers a lot of used vehicles in all price ranges. We worked with Collan Murray, who was informative, helpful, and did a great job of answering our questions. We recently bought a camper for the first time & had narrowed our search down to an older Ford F-150 or Chevy Silverado. Collin helped us weigh the pros and cons of each truck we had previewed on their great website. Test drove a 2006 Silverado on Thurs night, had a mechanic we knew look it over on Friday, & purchased on Sat. Finance manager Marty did all the paperwork with our credit union. Both Marty & Collan were low key and wanted to work with us to get the right truck @ the right price. Great experience & highly recommend for anyone looking for a slightly older used vehicle!!!
