We absolutely LOVE Smart Honda! They were quick, friendly, easy to work with. I told them what I wanted and they got it done! After deciding which vehicle I was taking home, they were on top of it. They had it cleaned, filled, mats in and ready to go before I signed that last piece of paperwork. The staff are knowledgeable about all there products and offer you exactly the warranties and extended coverage that is perfect for you and your lifestyle. My experience at Smart Honda Des Moines was, by far, the best new car buying experience I've ever had. The car I wanted wasn't available. Put down a deposit, the car was ordered and delivered in less than 8 weeks. The pick up and financial paperwork process took less than an hour, including the time it took to assess my trade in. If I had questions during the wait for delivery, my emails were answered quickly. Every person I worked with was friendly and accommodating. Thank you to Todd Decker and everyone at Smart Honda.

Josh S in service is by far one of the nicest people I have ever met. I brought my car in today to get looked at because it was having issues, I didn’t even buy my car from this dealership I bought it in Wisconsin from a completely different Honda dealership. When they figured out the issues I went in to pickup my car and I was very angry at the dealership I bought it from and I was not being the nicest to Josh. His customer service was beyond amazing he broke everything down step by step for me and was so kinda about everything the whole time and extremely professional, even tho I was very angry. Both with the same person. I received a truly Great customer service from Mr. Matt Norman. He was very responsive and respectful, Specially at the time that was very inconvenient and stressful for me, waiting for the arrival of ordered car and at the time that the length of the Waiting got much longer that Honda expected.
I couldn’t choose the car I really wanted because of the lack of inventory. Also this car that I pre-ordered was supposed to be earliest to arrive and that was the only reason I chose it. But I end up getting the car much later and at that time there were no other chance for me to change anything.
Thanks for having such a wonderful staff that care a lot and try their hardest to make my experience more pleasant.

A few weeks ago I was having a noise behind my dash. Took my Honda Accord to Smart Honda and figured out it was a blend door actuator that was going bad. Mike Weldon was my service advisor, he was absolutely WONDERFUL! He took the time on the phone to answer all of my many questions and explained everything quoted on my estimate in detail. I’ve been told by a couple about their experience with Smart Honda service prior to having one here, and I have to say I’ve had nothing but good things to say. Granted I had warranty work done here, I also had a couple other items that could possibly needed done. They took photos of the items and sent them to me, and Steve from the beginning called me first thing in the morning. I like the car, I hadn't slept very good, I think I might have been low on iron from anemia, and the pollen has been so bad that my stigmatism was bothering me ... but I needed a car and I wanted a good one. So far I'm intimidated by my own car lol I like it a lot! I want my car and myself to have a great future! I think Hayden is a hard worker! I have driven it around and getting the hang of all the features and how they work. I believe Honda is held to higher standards because they make good cars, better than others.

Unfortunately, we took the car in for an oil change and gave the car a free car wash(indicated not to).
This is by far the worst car wash I have ever seen. The car actually looks worse after the wash and is covered in scratches. Any corner that they could miss, they did. Also ended up pulling up one of the plastic trims by the rear tire and left some insane staining on the rear tire side wall.
Photos of the car aren't right after but look at how all the corners and divots basically weren't cleaned.

I don't know how someone can screw a car wash up so bad but it definitely has me in doubts on the credibility of their technicians.

They are eager to help and answer any questions, and they dont put an excessive amount of pressure on you to buy. With that said, it's a new car dealer, so there is going to be some pressure to buy right now, but they are also attentive to their customers' needs. The lack of a high pressure sales environment is the reason we will be getting both of our new cars here! There just aren't enough words to accurately describe how wonderful our experience was, so if you're a honda fan, or you just want a good reliable car, do yourself a favor and stop in to see Brad, or any member of their amazing sales force! On our way across the country in our 2022 Odyssey, we ended up with a puncture in the sidewall of our tire. Luckily we were near Smart Honda! They verified that they had our tire in stock. (Other places we called could only order one for us- not what you want to hear while in the middle of a trip! ) The service department was kind, helpful, and fast. I had some troubles getting my Extended Warranty cancelled, took 10 weeks of constant phone calls to the warranty company and the dealership.

There was the one time I seemed to have waited far longer than expected for service related to an air bag recall. When I inquired, we realized my car hadn't even been entered into the system. WOW! I have to say, going into a dealership is daunting. Not only that but as a consumer you already have the expectation that they are going to nickel and dime you for everything.
At Smart Honda I never felt that way. Lou was amazing and attentive. Listened to all I wanted and needed in a car. Even went out and found the car I wanted, in the color I wanted, and brought it to the Des Moines location. He sat with me and went over everything that the car had to offer and showed me how to use the technology.
He took the time to make sure I was happy with everything. Stopping a few times mid conversation to ask if this is what I wanted. I have never had that interaction with a salesman at a car dealership.

On a Friday, late in the afternoon, my 2020 Honda Passport suddenly had 5 warning messages. I called the dealership and they told me to bring it in so they could evaluate it with their computer to at least determine if it was safe to drive. I was happy they answered the phone so late in the day on a Friday, and they were willing to squeeze me in before they closed. Then it just kept getting better from there! While I was waiting for help, several employees greeted me to make sure I was being helped. The service staff and the mechanics evaluated the situation, explained to me it was 2 new recalls, one had already been fixed by wifi while I was there, and the other one needed to be fixed by a mechanic technician. I was able to wait or leave the car overnight, and they had someone who could fix it before they closed, so I waited. They estimated 45 minutes, and it only took 15 minutes! Everyone was so nice, and they communicated well among each other. Best experience there ever!

We recently made our first purchase of a used vehicle from Smart Honda. Doug, the gentlemen who helped us during our initial shopping and test drive was such a funny and energetic salesman, but he was not pushy at all. He was extremely helpful with getting us as close as possible to the price we wanted to spend and aiding in our negotiations with management on the sale. We also worked with Clay during the closing on the sale the next day and he was also very polite and helpful. About a week after getting the vehicle we had to take it back in as we noticed there was a brake issue happening. Clay was wonderful with getting things handled with the mechanics and getting new rotors put on for us at NO CHARGE. This is what you call great customer service and how all dealerships should treat their customers. I can say with certainty we will be back when we are looking for our next vehicle!

I did my shopping on line and found a 2013 GMC Terrain at an acceptable price and mileage. Drove onto the lot and Mike was on the spot within a minute. He waited for questions as he probably didn't have much knowledge as it was pretty fresh to the lot and not a Honda so I didn't mind. We took a test drive and he quietly sat in back as my wife and I took the spin. The real service came into play when, after a price was reached, Cheryl in the financing department took over. She is very experienced, friendly and really seemed to care. We had a glitch, not with my credit but with the interest rate at my credit union that I was quoted before I set foot on the lot. She handled it with my best interests in mind and wrapped up the deal. I came in the next day with my title and while I was with Cheryl discussing the interest rate glitch, Mike had the body shop touch-up a boo-boo they promised to fix and filled it up with gas. I am very pleased with my experience and would recommend Smart Honda.

This is probably the best service dept I have ever dealt with. They addressed whatever problems I had quickly and professionally. He sent two guys out to put on my spare and drove it back to the dealership while I was still in the dentist chair. They replaced the tire and in about an hour I was on my way. He is very knowledgeable about the Honda products and takes his time to explain everything to you. The only reason I didn't give Smart Honda 5 stars was because of the Theft Prevention option. I was a little surprised to find I was charged extra for that. I bought my Honda Civic on a Saturday and on Sunday noticed my lane watch wasn't working properly. We've trusted the Honda dealer in Clive for many years to service our new and used Honda vehicles. The service advisers have remained through several dealer name changes and are always friendly and helpful.
The new system they have implemented for recommending service through an online system is extremely annoying and will be receiving negative comments to the management upon our next visit.
We requested a pre-vacation inspection and oil change, the system recommended a transmission flush, a brake fluid flush, all filters replaced, as well as a couple of new tires (and the technician that called and the online system couldn't agree on which pair it was). This was a suggested $1k+ service of which over half was completely unnecessary. Very disappointed in the system, but the car detailing we requested was very well done even though it took them keeping the car for two days to perform the services we actually requested.

While waiting for our car, we checked out all the new Honda’s in the show room. That is where we met Steve Fulton, a Honda salesman. Steve was very easy to talk to and chuckled at my humor even though he had probably heard the same thing 100 times before.

No pressure service with no hassles on test driving vehicles. I leased a vehicle from here. Oddly, I was refused a price breakdown when I asked for it. I can understand giving an overall price for simplicity, but why not show me the details when I request it?
The paperwork and credit check took about 40-minutes, which I believe is about typical. The signing and vehicle prep was straightforward and smooth. Drove away a happy customer.
A couple of gripes:
I was given the push for purchasing more services at the financial signing. When I asked if leased vehicles are required to be maintained/oil-changed by the dealership, I was told "yes" but I later found was false. I can understand the pressure to up-sell, but I did not appreciate the false info.
Also, I researched other dealerships in the area and asked the sales rep here if Smart Honda could match or beat their price on the vehicle I wanted. I was given a gruff response about my request being "ridiculous." He then called me back a few minutes later to offer me a better deal, which I took.
They gave me a complimentary first oil change. Cool drive-off perk!

Our first experience with this dealer occurred in 1993, when it was still Holmes Honda. We blew a tire and damaged a wheel on the Des Moines Freeway. They had us back on the road with a new tire and wheel in less than two hours. After we returned home to Iowa, we purchased a 2009 Accord. Less than a year later Holmes sold to Lithia, continuing the pattern of dealer consolidation. Usually this results in high prices and indifferent treatment of customers. Fortunately, Smart Honda is an exception. For one thing, we were able to relate to the same salesman when we returned to purchase a 2013 Accord. John Hand is skilled, relaxed, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. We wanted to buy a model in high demand, and we would consider only one color combination. John determined that just the car would be built about three weeks later, and we reserved it. Though this was longer than we liked, it was all right because I am retired. Since this was a cash deal, it was easy to track costs. Smart discounted the car and the accessories we wanted. When John called us, all accessories had been installed and the car was ready to go. The finance manager did not press us to buy the usual add-ons, and the negotiated price did not change. John set up some of the electronics for us and we were out the door in about an hour and a half. We rated service "very good" because on the first car they occasionally tried to "sell us up" to things not called for on the service schedule. Just make sure that when the Maintenance Minder calls for service you check the booklet that comes with the car and allow them to do only what Honda recommends. Contrary to some other reviews on this site, we found the service charges to be about average for new car dealers. Our 2009 was the least expensive car to run that we have ever had, and we expect the same from the vastly-improved 2013. Drive safely, and watch for cement blocks on the Freeway..

My experience with Smart Honda on my most recent service call was mixed. Our 2013/14 CRV did not start in the morning due to a battery issue. When I called in to find information about taking the car in, I received pricing information and was told the warranty expired in May. When we jump started the car, I found the battery installed had a 100 month warranty sticker which made me hopeful the battery would be covered under warranty.
When I arrived at Smart Honda, I was told the battery wasn’t original and it was a replacement battery. Replacement batteries ignore their warranty and follow the warranty of the original purchase. The battery was bad and needed replaced. The experience of having the battery replaced and having the car washed was excellent. Service was quick, efficient, and I was out of Smart Honda quickly and back on the road. The explanation left me unhappy with the warranty process. The original battery was replaced within the first year of owning the vehicle due to some electrical issues. I have concerns about if the new battery we purchased will fail within the next couple of years. The upside is that with the new battery and 100 month warranty – I’ll be able to get it replaced for free – and at that time I’ll question if the replacement will be 100 months or will be the remainder of the original warranty.
My feedback for Smart Honda is that as a customer, it would be nice for replacement parts to have updated labels to show the correct warranty for the part and prevent confusion. Explaining my situation when I was in the shop, I felt cornered and was even questioned about being the original owner of the vehicle. I understand facts are facts, but it would have been nice for the people I worked with to answer my questions with a little more compassion in the explanation.
This experience hasn’t changed my desire to continue sending vehicles for service at Smart Honda – just makes me want to look closer at what services have been done to prevent my future confusion.

We were very pleased with the sales rep when we visited on a "just looking" basis. We didn't get a high-pressure vibe from him. We thought we definitely wanted a Toyota Highlander and looked at other dealerships, but didn't find anything we liked that was in our price range. We decided to look at Smart Honda for a used Highlander. They didn't have Highlanders. My wife suggested looking at some mini-vans. We weren't sold on getting a Highlander so we decided to take a look at a Honda Odyssey that had been used by the dealership as a loaner vehicle. It was a 2016 with low mileage. We did a test drive and were pleased with the comfort and handling of the vehicle. We were so impressed with the no pressure feeling at Smart Honda that we called the other dealership and canceled the Highlander they were going to transfer from Kansas City for us to look at.
After a couple days we called Smart Honda to request a meeting to discuss the price and financing on the Odyssey. At that time the sales rep told us of another Odyssey that was exactly like the one we had tested driven. It had also been a loaner vehicle. When we arrived at the dealership, he suggested a test drive of the 2nd Odyssey. We like it even better than the 1st one we drove. We decided that was the one we wanted.
It took about 3 hours that day to test drive, agree on trade-in and get the paperwork done. While I was expecting a long process, I wasn't expecting that long. However, it was very busy at the dealership that day; there were a lot of people looking and buying vehicles. They were very accommodating and made us feel comfortable while we waited. They did have some up-sell options during the financing process, which we expected. We did purchase the extended warranty and environmental package, which we had talked about doing prior to purchasing.
Overall, we were VERY pleased with the overall process and would recommend Smart Honda to our friends and family.

We are so impressed with the service department. We had a high pitched noise coming from our blower (heater) in the cold. Of course the day we drove 1.5 hours to the shop to get it fixed, it was warm out and it wouldn't repeat the issue. They took the extra step of looking up other technicians remarks about it and found that our system was installed during a time when the machine was down at the factory and they were installed by hand. Others had found the bolts to be loose. They tore into it and found the same to be true for our system and were able to repair it on the same trip. (No repeat 1.5 hour trip needed). After spending a day with some pushy sales/finance people, it was a breath of fresh air to go to Smart Honda, and not feel harassed, pressured or rushed.
My wife & I went just to test drive a Civic before going to another dealer to look at a different make/model of car, but ended up staying at Smart Honda because of the relaxed atmosphere. The sales person was very friendly and helpful. At the end of the visit, the normally pushy finance person (trying to upsell), was a pleasure to deal with.

Just bought a 2013 CR-V with a trade-in of a 2010 F150. They gave me more for the truck than two other Honda dealers. This was the second auto from Smart Honda and we have been happy with the process each time. Have had only one dealing with the service department for the 2009 Accord, which was a warranty problem. The 2009 was bought in Iowa City. The service seemed good, but that was in 2009. I recommend that you drive the one you have chosen with all windows down, and each window down at a time. The wind pressure from having back windows down in the 2013 CR-V is terrible. I felt like my ears drums would burst. Consumer Reports said the noise was not good, but it's really unbearable. I refused to pay for the security etching on the windows and the mud guards and was not charged for them, but they still came with the CR-V. We were asked to buy the extended warranty but was not pushed to do so. Brian Davis was our salesman and did a great job. We bought a 2011 Crosstour from him too. I cannot say anything about the service department because we have had only one experience with it. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Great.... Even though they are upgrading their building, service was quick and very polite. Which is made better because (1) they are booked for weeks but they fit me in. (2) They told me 3 hours till they were done... I stayed to wait. I was about to go on a walk when I was stopped and told the car was done, 2 hours early. (3) I was kind of a d$ck. No I was not thinking this at the time, but I did exhibit di#kish behavior. Such as not taking my headphones out when I was driving into the shop. Safety Hazzard too BTW. Also I came in expecting a lower price and may have blamed them for it. Later I was told by my wife (who did the research on it) that not only was it fair. It was cheaper then she expected. (4) Small thing... Free carwash. It was filthy folks, outside I mean. But now it matched the inside.
So maybe my broken mirror isn't 7 years bad luck. Idk... Check them out.

I stopped in to fix my car heater as I was travelling from Texas to Wisconsin. They first said I needed an appointment and would need to leave the car. Then they had a mechanic come out to me where I was in line for service. The mechanic magically touched something under the hood and my heater was working again, and I got back on the road and continued my trip. I had done thorough homework on pricing before I initiated contact with multiple dealers through mails. Smart Honda accepted my target quote request and the entire process was pretty stress-free. Once we reached an agreement, I submitted all necessary documents and forms online. Most variables were discussed and ironed out before I stepped into the dealership.

I am very picky about my cars and go through them with a fine-tooth comb (much more than most I would imagine), and Smart Honda was very accommodating to my needs. I took my 2007 Honda Accord in for an oil change, airbag recall, and they replaced the air filter. All work was completed in a little over an hour, while I waited. David was very respectful, helpful and personable.

throughout the process, gave an accurate walk around while on the phone discussing the car's condition. He was very patient and answered all my questions (I was driving 10+ hours, so I had several questions before I was willing to make the drive). He even helped me return my rental car after the sale was final. If it were closer, i'd definitely be back. Who know, maybe they will have the exact car i want next time and I will make the drive again.

Honda recommends a wheel alignment. I wished there was an adjustment for caster, especially. This Honda as all Hondas they have a tendency to wander on the highway. More caster would give them more stability to stay straight and require less correction. Just a personal opinion that is shared with those who know, like Honda specialist. None at your facility.

All I needed was an oil change and I got far more in terms of professional and friendly service. Ms. Jaime Carter was outstanding! The oil change was done in about an hour and Ms. Carter noticed that my car stereo was out of service so she went above and beyond by making the effort to reprogram the code. Ms. Carter also voluntarily gave me a military discount, which was greatly appreciated. Great experience!

I was skeptical about purchasing a Honda Odyssey since I was driving a wonderful Subaru Outback, but I really wanted a third row seat for hauling kids to sports and activities. David Sysombath helped match a competitor's oil & filter change discount price. And he notified me of when the vehicle's service was completed earlier than estimated, which saves me time. My only feedback/question is since my wife's Honda Civic had a multipoint inspection, wouldn't they know to refill the air in the tires?
Because 10 mins after I left, I got a notice that the Civic had low tire pressure. Anyway, I like Smart Honda's service department, so I'll give their sales department a 3rd try when I need a Passport Touring.

I have been a customer since 2013 and am typically always happy with their service. They are prompt, courteous, and always accommodating! The reason for the 4 starts this time is that when they returned my car, the inside around the door/floor area was muddy. This was after it looked like they washed the car.
