Reviews of Van Cortlandt Park
Growing up in NYC, didn’t realize there were so many miles of beautiful trails available right in my backyard. Spent the afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park and the trails are stunning, clean, and well maintained. Segments were isolated but saw lots of bikers. I use AllTrails religiously and even when we veer off, trail markers are there to guide me though the woodsy sections. Some trails are close to the highway but why focus on that? There are so many inside trails that take you away from the hum of the roadway that it’s not a bother- at least not to me.
Had a great autumn walk there! Not busy and very relaxing environment. Nice rock formations in the park also. Easy to reach with Undeground line 1 as it is next to the end point in the Bronx.
Blocks from my house this place has become my little sanctuary. No matter what season you come in the surrounding are beautiful. I enjoy the trails and ponds. Take a walk and you’ll be surprised what you see.
Massive beautiful park with plenty of trails great for mixed pedestrian/bike usage. Clean bathrooms located throughout as well.
Outstanding trails, modest lake with resident swan couple and 4 cygnets, many water and song birds, Parade Grounds for a nice daily walk plus historic VC Mansion. Love this place.
Endless hiking trails, sports, summer concerts and movies. All practically in our back yard. Couldn't live without VCP.
A park to get away from the city. It is worth it for hiking, cycling or walking with family and friends. I recommend it.
Wonderful ground for multiple sports, around 8-10 pitches for cricket and multiple areas to play football. We the huge dedicated parking. We played two back to back cricket games this morning. Nice and clean ground. Nice combination of wonderful ground and splendid view.
The park is steeped with history and is perfect for fall foliage hike if you don't have wheels. You can find one of nations top cross country course to help guide you through the many trails the park has to offer. There is dog park, tennis courts, soccer fields, picnic area and many other place and things to explore. Get out and enjoy it!
Huge park! Clean fields. You can see horses, deers, rabbits. Perfect for family picnic (don't do bbq). It has a small dog park. Hope they update training equipment there!
This place is very special to me. Very peaceful place
Beautiful very family friendly it was movie night Showing the Birds. Next Thursday they will be showing The Movie the Meg time 8:30 PM Behind Van Courtland pool the big lawn For more info check out the green flag for time and showing make sure to wear long Pants or tights mosquitoes will kill you there You can bring a beach chair or a blanket either one just to be comfortable.
Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx offers many activities for people of all ages. It's the second largest park in NYC at 1146 acres. It has playing fields, swimming pools, hiking and cycling roads, areas to relax, the city golf course horse riding stable and a beautiful lake which is a roosting area for swans, geese, ducks, and many seasonal migrating birds. It stretches from the northwest Bronx, to the northeast Bronx and ends at the border of Yonkers. The new biking trail stretches into Yonker's Tibbets Brook Park which is quite beautiful and has many activities. Van Cortlandt has excellent hiking trails through forests, swampland, and hilly areas. If you keep your eyes peeled you'll see many wild animals. Park is kept in excellent condition and there are always park rangers present.
Van Cortlandt Park is one big nature trail...so big and spacious with every amenity imaginable...I would bring my dogs there for the doggie park and to walk through the many walking trails...you can get lost there...great bike trails and a runners delight. It's free like all NYC parks. Many schools have field trips there...there are tennis courts, pools, handball courts, jogging tracks, row boating and more.
Beautiful park, lots of space and activities.
Nice big open spaces, trees, pretty relaxing and easily accessible.
Very much enjoyed myself here scootering through the trails precariously on wet leaves. Albeit dangerous I had a lot of fun riding my electric scooter here. I would have never expected to find a patch of wilderness so vast inside New York City. Great place to spend an afternoon with a book.
Lovely open space for kite flying. Large lake , golf club and Ranger station with the history of the park . There is also a African slave burial ground but I feel it needs more attention. From the p
This park literally saved my sanity during the pandemic. It is a great space. The parade grounds is large enough to walk around. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends, not on Central Park levels. I randomly discovered the hiking trails which are worth it. Parking is free and available. I have always felt safe at this park as a woman, even on the trails. The Putnam trail is open and I recommend it and if you are feeling adventurous, walk it all the way to Westchester County. Enjoy!
This park is absolutely gorgeous. Like I mean it has the most beautiful field and greenery in such a vast space. Except when you look across any road, it ain't the prettiest sight I've seen.
We've had several Picnics there
Plenty of spaces to choose from.
Pretty park for a walk, however I will say there are parts close to the highway that are very loud. Would recommend maybe going earlier in the year either fall or spring, we went in the winter and it was quite dead due to all the trees having lost their leaves.
A large park in the North Bronx that was once the Van Cortlandt estate. The old family vault is still there on Vault Hill, although the location has been damaged by vandals and the passage of time, and the original tombs are no longer there. The hill presents a great view of the skyscrapers of downtown Manhattan.
Beautiful park, full of winding & intersecting hiking trails. Paved and unpaved sections, rocks to climb, and horse trails. Worth getting lost for a few hours.
This is the most challenging mountain I have ever seen. The view here is invincible. It is a gathering place for rock climbers. I feel that they are really brave. They are facing 90-degree cliffs.
It's a very nice place to spend your free time and also you can find good parking sometimes. Just when is cold 🥶 is hard to be outside but if you don't have no problem with that you still can go for a walk or anything else you want to do …
Plenty to do from the Kids Park, Skate Park, Fields, Swimming Pool and the Star of the Show, the Trails!
I love going on Nature Walks throughout the Park with my camera!
Beautiful park with lots of trails. Perfect for cross-country running. I see many cyclists and bird watchers too.
Looks amazing to spend the day out with the kids.
But it us a very basic park with nothing especial other than the nature.
Like to hiking in the park! It’s huge and beautiful in any season. Winter 2020-2021 just perfect with a lot of snow! (Need to buy ski I guess)))
This is a great park in the city. You can do all sorts of different hikes and trails for all abilities. The trails are well maintained and range from high traffic to secluded! Some of the trails have ponds close by. Bring bug spray! Especially July through September
Beautiful place to run and ride your bike on the putnum trails which goes into Yonkers and further up into New York State. I have talked to several runners please be careful at night because thier have been several incidents with joggers getting attacked (I hate to say this)by young people in groups. Safe during the day at dusk please have a partner .
Love this park there is something for everyone to do. You can even take a mountain hike up the trail.
Ran my first-ever 5K cross country run in this park on 11/6/2019. It is a beautiful park with amazing trails. Quite the workout!
The pics are flanked on both sides of the bridge by bamboo. It's very zen! And then it opens up to a gorgeous park.
Disconnecting yourself from the high pace of the city in a different environment is absolutely possible by visiting this park. Enjoy of the nature plenty of playful squirrels, or getting into a tennis tournament in one of the available fields on this park.
A NY gem, beautiful trails for all seasons. Feels a million miles from NYC. Best trails are north of 252nd street.
Great park in the Bronx. Completely unexpected city oasis. Think "Central Park of the Bronx". Marsh land and a bird conservatory, picnic and BBQ area, Van Cortlandt house museum, fields for sports, public golf course.
It's eerily cool to see the fog rise from the fields of Van Cortland Park at 6:30am when it'sdark out or when it's light out, this natural phenomena makes for a great effect or scenery for a horror film or even a Halloween themed photo shoot but you'd have to be an early riser if you want to see it and be in the thick of it.
A very beautiful park to frequent. The trails are amazing. I highly recommend enjoying every acher.
A real gem of NYC, VCP is a distant cousin of Central Park in that you get the wonderful benefits of nature without all of the tourists that plague the other more popular parks and make their enjoyment more difficult. While a bit of a trek for those without a vehicle, the park is a wonderful experience to remind yourself that there’s more to the city than concrete.
Van Cortlandt Park sewms like the end of New York, as you take the number 1 Subway to the last stop. The park is vast, much bigger than Central Park. It is a beautiful park and a popular place for sports. There is also a Van Cortlandt historie museum. If you have some time in New York and love Parks, it is worth getting out of Manhattan and see something different.
Great time! Took some of my students for our nature photography project. They loved it!
Lovingly cared-for 400 year old home feels so comfortable, you wish you could stay to dinner! Lovely little pocket garden in front.
I love it here. This is one of the best parks I've ever visited. Or, lived so close to. It's the second largest park in the Bronx behind Pelham Bay Park.
I love all the trails & things to discover. Lots of trails to hike. Some are steep & provide a good workout.
There's an old Railroad line running right through the middle of the park. It's called the Old Putnam trail. It goes all the way to Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers which is Westchester County. There's an abandoned platform & 2 bridges in the park. It was a branch of the New York Central Railroad. Founded by Cornelius Vanderbilt.
What an AMAZING park! I never thought this park would be so clean and well taken care off. Everyone in the park is calm, peaceful and respectful for one another. There are restrooms if needed and a few extra paid public parking spots across the street on the main road. The 242nd Street subway stop is literally in front of the entrance of the park.
I LOVE Van Cortlandt Park all year round. Beautiful lakes, great trails, historical landmarks, public golf course and pool. Horse stables. Enough space for all track and field and intramural sports events....and TWO secret historical grave sites...enjoy.
I love the morning pool session. However, due to the life guard shortage the kiddie pool is closed, so parents bring their kids over to adult pool. Love the pool Manager she is no joke! Family friendly environment.
11.10.17 - If you want a quick 30-45 getaway from NYC, you can do it in Van Cortlandt Park's trails. There are cricket matches over the summer, cross-country meets, soccer, and rugby matches throughout the year. It's larger than Central Park. It's a wonderful place to spend time.
Such a beautiful park. I had a wonderful time walking around it.
A really big park. There are tons and tons of things to do there. Playing fields and playgrounds are scattered about the park's edges, in the center is a nice forested area. The park is home to the country's first public golf course, the oldest house in the Bronx, and the borough's largest freshwater lake. There is also a bike path named the Putnam trail which stretches a great span of the state.
Great park has baseball field , dog park basketball court a track to jog and a trail that you can take all the way to and past tibbets park. One of my favorite parks I really recommend it
Very spacious and nature based given that it is right in the city (bx). It is great for runs, walks, games, soccer, frisbee, tag etc. It's much bigger than what is pictured. There are back woods, event spaces and a golf course. They also have a fenced park for dgs. On a nice sunny day, it's a great place to go out for a walk or be active in general.
A hidden gem in the Bronx, even cool walking trails beyond the baseball field, near W 262nd. It’s well kept by parks and rec each week, it can get messy on the weekends. Ppl sit in the seating areas, have picnics, set up tents, celebrate birthdays and special occasions, photos shoots; locals gather with their fury friends and even non threatening homeless ppl sometimes like to nap there. Great place to walk your dog or catch a weekend local baseball game. It’s family friendly and will fulfill your needs for fresh air and nature, whilst in the city.
I Love this park but gave it a four because when it gets dark they don't have lights in the park. The tennis courts, pool, skate park, playground, and hiking trails are great places to have fun.
I constantly find new trails to explore in this beautiful park! I'm amazed daily that this is in my backyard. There are challenging inclines on some if the trails but that is to be expected. I usually like to do my hiking in Beacon or Storm King but this has been a beautiful substitute during this lockdown. The trails are sufficiently distance to allow for the feeling of isolation. I have found trails that have taken me as far north as Westchester county. I also enjoy sitting by the lake and watching the cygnets grow up!
Great park for the Manhattan Invitational, easy to get to and parking is very close.
The park is fantastic, specially for running. I didn’t explore everything but I’m sure there is more to explore.
Probably one of my favorite parks they really do a good job at maintaining this park and keeping it clean. However, the DOG PARK area! My reason for removing two stars off. No one cares about the dog park the grass is tall and disgusting idk what happened this place used to be trimmed and well taken care of. Now if you pass by it’s abandoned and very sad cause many bring their dogs here. I have found glass and many stuff that shouldn’t be in a dog park. A lady even called 311 and nothing has been done very sad that Van courtland park does not care about our fur babies!
Good bird and wildlife sightings here. You'll forget you're in an urban area before very long. The lake is my favorite spot though.
Nice grill area and pool. Nice space to run and throw a ball. It's a massive massive park. Great hidden gem.
I love to visit the park for a variety of sports and games. Pool is very nice. Picnics are great for family activity and gathering place. Large spaces and parking available. In addition to riding my bike in the park along the paths, I also go from Van Cortlandt park bike path to Empire Trail South up to Elmsford a wonderful 13 mile ride with the opportunity to ride further north!
It's a nice new park to take your kids if they under 8yr old.. clean and open if you bring your own chair you can sit back and watch them run.
Beautiful scenery complete the excellent layout of the park and all of its features. There are benches to sit at to watch people go by, or relax and eat breakfast while watching the sunrise over the tree line. There is lots of open space on the lawn to sprawl out and do your exercise without being in the way of any games that are happening on the field. There are baseball fields and playgrounds and it is all easily accessible by walking, using mass transit or biking along the adjoining bike path. Parking can be difficult if there is a crowd. Walking paths are nice and wide for conversing with a friend and spans the perimeter but is not too close to the street, which is nice. You will see the usual city wildlife in the trees and on the grass and just adds to the experience. Wonderful place to be!
We were on a road trip from CT to MD and needed a place to stop in NY to have lunch. We brought food with us, so were hoping to find a semi-shady park along our route to picnic with our 2 year old. Not only did we find this amazing park with some shade, but it turns out the park also has a HUGE playground (with some shade) with a giant toddler sized playground, large big kids playground, AND a splash pad! It was perfect! Wish we had something like this at home!
The park is more peaceful than other NYC city parks, offering a wide range of fun like cricket, nature walks, some secluded spaces
It's pretty vast area to run or walk. There are four or more soccer goal posts available as well. But like Abby place in Bronx it's hard to find parking spots
We enjoyed catch-and-release fishing at the lake all afternoon and had a bite to eat at the golf clubhouse. The food was tasty, and the staff was welcoming.
Too many good things to say. You can hike, bike and or just get lost and feel like you have left civilization behind. Bring the dog and have a get away. See Deer, chipmunks, skunks, and a few furry creatures I am not so sure about. BBQ ok and there is a pool! Just a great place year round.
Great spot for a walk! Also has a riding stable, but be sure to book in advance!
Love this park, great for hiking, running and excellent bike trail leading to Yonkers
The parks of all parks. . Was today 1st to host NCAA trail runs .. parks has everything
I have been coming to this park for many years now. Its a nice place, very open. I would come to the lake and go fishing a lot. 1 thing I would warn people about this place is there are a lot of homless people and dope heads. While fishing and walking around, I have had many run ins with them and some of them are not very polite. One time my friends and I where at the tennis courts and this odd old man came to us and told us he would "beat the blood out of us" if we didnt stop following him and watching him sleep. All in all its a good place. Just try not to go alone and at night.
Also thoes are some of the fish I caught. Most of them are pumpkin seed sunfish.
9 hole course. Perfect for beginners.

Huge park, very scenic in the fall. It is relatively flat so it is easier to navigate compared to other parks in the city. Easily accessible by subway, with the station right next to one of the park gates. Visit the historic Van Cortlandt House Museum inside the park if you have time.
Great for recreational fishing with friends. Lots of space to explore. Communal grills if you want to bring food and picnic.
They have renovated this park very nicely. I love walking throughout the park. The lake is beautiful with the swans , Ducks and Geese.
Great baseball fields soccer fields and cricket fields. The racetrack is great the handball courts are great to play at. Now they even have a skateboarding Park for the Young.
It's a wonderful place to breathe clean air. I like walking up into the mountains of Vancouver Park it's very relaxing. We'll be going back again.
You can walk, run, ride bicycle ....even horse 🐎 🐴 riding...nature as its best 👌 …
Nice public golf course in the Bronx. The course is not very long but makes up for it with tight fairways and lots of elevation changes. The greens are in pretty good condition and are medium speed. The course has a unique layout that makes it difficult to walk so a cart is definitely recommended.
The main entrance to the park has been renovated an split up better to support park goers who chose to cook out on a grill
Outdated turf and the soccer fields aren’t well kept but it’s a nice place to be otherwise
I played paddleball and racquetball there for many years, now my son is running track there!
There’s not enough places to Shade under the trees from the sunshine.!
-Bring your parasol if you like that place.
-Barbecue grails available
-the only toilet I find is related to swimming pool
- the bus to/from that Park is free(0$) (gratuity) for summer season .
First time I've been. Great place for outdoor activities. Also provides calisthenic equipment around the circumference of the park, which is awesome!
Awesome park, but we got lost and had to run across the highway. Great trails.
Most Favorite place with natural beauty. I believe it’s more beautiful then Central Park .
Wonderful Park! Very well clean, spacious and family friendly. Great hiking trail, huge open space to play sports and big enough forest to get away from the city rush!
Love coming to van cortland Park... and also got a pool spot and I believe its free ... skate park too ... best part is on Sunday... just to watch some soccer/futbol games
If you had to, there is enough edible plants and small wildlife to actually live in this park as if you were in the wilderness. The public areas are kept well but it's the trails and wilderness areas that are the true beauty of this NYC gem
Third largest park in New York
Plenty of hiking trail. Ideal for runners.
Huge and spacious park. Very beautiful for walking on trails and relaxing.
Have been wanting to go, finally got the opportunity. Our team had a group run. The temperature was hot but the trails were cool enough. Would like to explore more of the park. Big field for soccer.
great park, so much open space, trails, took a wrong turn and ended up riding through the golf course,
Good for walks and relaxation.
It's one of the most beautiful parks in the Bronx. Love taking walks and bike rides here.
love this area from walks to just laying down in a spot with family and love one's
Just an absolutely gorgeous with multiple ball fields, hiking and running trails and lost more
Beautiful outdoor playground area. Has big space for bbq, good parking area too.
Gorgeous park...I walked the John Kiernan Trail and seemed like I was upstate someplace. I lived in the Catskills for 6 years, so it's a valid comparison.
Totally forgot I was still in NYC. I plan to go back and explore this park more to get my nature fix. There's A LOT more to see.
Great park for family and individuals very clean and the grass always nice during the season!!
It's a beautiful park all year round. Now all the flowers are blooming, and trees are growing new greens. It's more lively and refreshing. It's a very nice place for a walk, or doing exercise, playing balls or enjoying the park.
I love this park I have really enjoyed it, it is a very nice place to read a book to do sports or maybe to spend a beautiful and relaxed picnic afternoon, I love that it is always very clean and looks beautiful for any season of the year.
Van Cortlandt park and swimming pool has always been my go to place since my childhood days so today I returned to hit the swimming pool and it was amazing the facility was very clean and safe the pool area was well staffed and there were police officers there for everyone's safety
I felt safe and had a great time
Beautiful park, great playing fields for baseball, football, soccer, cricket etc. public pool
Great hiking trails for all levels. See wild turkeys, hawks, deer and more. Lots of athletic fields, pool and just a great place to have a picnic.
Just wanna update a little bit here. Well at one point I praised the park's department now I am disappointed in the way they have made made the John Muir trail difficult for people with disabilities or elderly.
Nice trails fresh air nice people it wonderful great enjoy nature 🤗🐇🦆🐢🦋🌲🌳🙏🏾also saw Van Courtland resting-place ⚰⚱☠ …
I love this park. I spent a lot of time over the summer at the Van Cortlandt Park Pool. The staff does an amazing job. This place is immaculate. The staff is friendly and I appreciate the time and effort they take to keep it as clean as they do.
Loved the parc last time I visited it, it is vast with lot of attractions and a lake in the middle.
Great way to daycation without having to travel too far you can truly get lost in the beauty of this parks ponds wildlife and trails there are also playgrounds bbq areas sport fields and wait for it a pool there are also so many other activities perfect for everyone any age even the babies and newborns because you can find shade without a hassle hope this was helpful i truly enjoyed myself dont forget to bring water if you get to deep in the park or trails theres no where to buy any so stay hydrated and have fun
The Morning Majesty! It's a great place for a little run between 6:45am to 8 when the kids start their rowdy practices.
Always love visiting this park with kids, and also good place to BBQ. The Broadway Ave side by pool is Best
Always clean around, love to take my son there to play, is local and it has a large green area with path perfect for bikes
Really enjoyed some urban hiking though the Northwest woods. I grew up south of Boston, and it felt like some areas of the Blue Hills. It was much needed fresh air during this time when we're cooped up indoors. I also enjoyed some historic relics, like the Kingsbridge Burial Ground and granite pillars used as winter-condition tests for what would be the stone used to build Grand Central Station.
Overall still the same after all these years. Noticeable improvement was the fences, benches and new kids play sets in various locations. Because Van Courtlandt covers such a vast area you see the improvements as you drive down Van Courtlandt area to Gun Hill Road.
Really nice place for exercise, have a BBQ or just relax.
Went there for a bird exhibition the place is huge, people chilling here are super nice and overall a peaceful experience
I love walking in this park. The track is so spacious and you also see all sorts of people. Some are walking, running, ridingbtheir bike, walking their dog.. Life is good.
This is a beautiful park with excellent trails!
Beautiful park nice hills for running feels like you’re not even in The Bronx while I’m here.
Love the park in my area. VCP East. Construction is finally done. Tennis courts, baseball, swimming pools, etc. Just wish they had more areas to barbecue and more basketball courts.
Beautiful outdoor view, perfect for a run, picnic and even stroll throughout the park. I love it!
This is the most beautiful Park filled with hiking trails through the mountain hills.
If you had the time you could probably walk through this place for many days.
I've been there many times I always enjoyed it.
Lots of walking space and activities to do running walking exercises etc bike riding reading
This is my favorite park. My dog's love it here too!!
I'm glad they did some renovations and upgrades last year. It is always very clean now I feel safe coming here as there's usually security roaming around, and I love the track for walking. The horse stables are super cool as well !!
I will be visiting much more often !
Large, beautiful park with lots to do, including open fields, trails, tennis courts, a lake, a museum, etc. Also the home of most of the cross country competitions in the city and the infamous Cemetery Hill.
Van cortlandt Park is a wonderful place to visit, enjoy and relax. There is much to see, a lake, the Van cortlandt mansion, the horse stables and so on. Most enjoyable walk around the track, especially during the evening and a fall.
Beautiful park. What a great place to enjoy the outdoors in the Bronx.
Enjoy Nature. This park is beautiful!
This is a great place to go running and walk your dog. Plus there is a big rock you can climb in the woods where you can see the whole park.
Beautiful park! So scenic and peaceful. Perfect for running, jogging, biking. Also hosts tons of other sports and have courts for them.
We had a great time in the picnic area.
One of the best parks in the city. Golf, soccer, baseball, tennis, and even criquet fields. Nice bbq area and pond. Gets crowded during the weekends
Pretty park and good for hiking but not good for biking,
It has a subway and a park and the neighborhood ain't too shabby. Yet these drivers need to get licenses! These DMV virtual road tests just don't cut it.
Plenty to do in this park including geocaching. They have a dog park a playground for young children a golf course some large fields and horseback riding.
We volunteered this weekend and got to plant trees! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful!
Great track! Wonderful hiking trail- Tortoise & Hare 🐢 …
Good spot to park and begin a bike ride.
Beautiful park . excellent condition for all activities.😘😘🙌🙌🙋🙋 …
Move over Central Park the Van Cortlandt lawn is Great :0)
It’s a nice park to just sit out and be outside, fresh air and away from the city noise, just a lil bit lol
One of my favorite parks in NYC
Tennis courts, Running tracks, Cross country, Golf course, Cricket and much more....
I have been coming to this diner for over 30 years. They consistently update it. The food is very solid. The chef salad and Caesar salad. Are you enormous. The roasted chicken will last you a minimum of 2 days. And everything's cooked to perfection. There's a reason why this place has been open so long is because the food is very good and the service is also very good
The best outdoor park in the bronx/yonkers border.
Love this park! Walk, fish and enjoy!
A really nice place to hike around in. Well maintained. On a sunny day , can't be beat. Easy train access as well.
Great huge park, with a big field, back hills great for running, picnic, or family day!
The one and only nicest park in the Bronx. Has playgrounds, recreation facility, running field, and even a museum nearby. A family and pet friendly place.
My home park . Love it, needs less people driving their stupid motor powered rec vehicles . Rangers can't be there to stop them all the time . Cops, well let's just say since they don't bother to patrol the park or even get to know it's extremely large land are pretty useless
Great open spaces with plenty of soccer and football Fields
a very nice place to walk, run, ride a bike, the truth is that it is the best thing to relax and get fit by exercising 🏋️♀️ …
People kept there distance and it was a spacious and pleasant park for a beautiful day of BBQ and picnic with the family ❤️👌 …
A beautiful place to have some peace or have some workout they have something’s for some workouts like abs shoulder and do some pull-ups they also have a track to run is like a 4 miles to run is a clean place after all.
On Sundays they always have some sports goin on ether a Mexican liege for soccer or they also have a group of people running. Is also a good place to ride your bicycle bicycle or just take a walk to the park.
Is a beautiful place to do a picnic with family to friends after all is a beautiful place to try.
Always feeling free when I am there - there are soccer field with bleachers, running truck , skateboard park .
Beautiful park, a good place for a walk in nature
Excellent park, on par with the best parks in the city. Lots of wild forrest. Lots of playing fields. There is a swamp and lots of biking lanes
It's an amazing park and it's huge. Been her 18 years and still haven't seen the whole park. It's peaceful has a golf course I just found fishing plenty of beautiful ducks and I even saw a beautiful swan. It now has a Waterpark and has huge fields for soccer and a standard track to run on. It has a handball court, sprinklers, bar b que areas and a pool. What more do you want
It's a very nicely located park with most things that kids use to keep themselves entertained. I was hanging out with a friend and her kids and the broad view to where the play items are, is amazing
Large open field. A lot to do, baseball fields, track, swings etc. Very nice to take pictures.
Love to be able to walk along pathway for as short or long as I wish. Benches along the way enjoy seeing all the different birds houses lol. It's peaceful
This is a beautiful park with a great deal to explore!
Beautiful open fields, tennis courts and close to Broadway for a cup of warm coffee before a walk...
Big, awesome. Many handball courts, much larger than expected. Pretty dark at night tho
As I pass the "Grass" I get Nostalgic..Passing by with my Class ... I swore I was dumb far !! ... "I could stay here all Day" .. till mosquitoes start bothering.. I'm out.. Fast Forward 6/22 Was visiting yesterday Still in Love with this park everytime I enter.. Inhale... exhale... Be greatful TMRW is not promised...
Always great. Not my first time being there. Very huge park with lots of fun things to do.
Luv this park very beautiful and greenery looks great around this time of year
Nice park, came here for my kids athletic meet, parking is free but very difficult to get.
Pretty Serene, loved my nature walk here
It was a beautiful day this particular day and I was invited out to the park for a birthday celebration
One of the best parks in the Bronx for all types of activities but especially for trail and track running. Lovely pool and vast place for summer time picnics.
Best park to go to! sometimes it gets a little too crowded but I enjoy being there! i've been going there for years!
I haven’t been there a lot, but it’s a Really good park for running, cycling, games, and lots of other physical activities
We did canoeing on the lake which was lots of fun
They paved the bike path wich is good, unfortunately they removed the grills, and on the side where the golf cabin is you can't have a picnic anymore because is there a lot of duck droppings everywhere, but in general you can enjoy the greens areas and long walks.
Great park where you can go do various things like skate, play football, soccer, baseball, track, gold and even swimming (summer time). I remember one winter they had ice skating but I don’t think it would be happening again. The park is great for cardio; they have different trails for different type of runners. They also have a hiking trail/bike that can go very very far if interested!
Always spacious for walking and exercising in open areas or on paths in the woods.
I am reviewing the Woodlawn area of the park. It's been under construction longer than the time stated, which is the norm for NYC construction... The children's park's jungle gym sorely needs an update. I've seen a lot of jungle gyms around NYC public park, and this one is the worst.
The sidewalk there are cracked and overall terrible, but I don't see a lot of garbage around! There also seems to be a lot of cars that looks abandoned parked there.
Update June 2022 - not a lot of abandoned cars anymore. 3 softball fields are opened. There is a neat water fountain that also lets you fill bottles with ease. The kids jungle gym area is still under construction.
Lots of space and fields, ducks and geese to feed, watch in the ponds or fertilize the grass. Great place to run and play, could use a little maintenance though.
Beautiful place to go for a walk, jog, or just have a seat and enjoy the view.
Large neighborhood park with tremendous lawns and athletic facilities. Much evidence of construction going on with big architectural improvements shown on display - eventually it seems there will be wider walking paths with benches along them in the shade, which is fantastic because it's exactly what's needed to balance out the running accomodations.
The memorial oak grove is a wonderful place to lay out a picnic and sit beneath a beautiful canopy of branches and leaves to do some birdwatching.
My backyard. Beautiful trails, nature, peace and quiet.
Huge park to take a nice stroll in. Some wild life near the lake like ducks, swans and even saw a turtle once. Cardinals and woodpeckers fly about sometimes as well. Little skatepark and a few walls for handball. Pretty big field for running on a track if you'd like and some goals for soccer as well.
Spacious, clean with lots of grass, trees and vegetation. Dozens of trails to explore.
Great for picnics & cookout. Restrooms open until 6pm. Good social distancing, mask & gloves seen on almost everyone. Park has mounted or on foot, police & rangers. Dept of parks sanitation was on point. Had a great time!
It's amazing great to take photos
Amazing park with so much grass and trees, its beautiful. You can pick a spot and just relax or you can hike up through the trails and enjoy the sights of nature through the equestrian trail. Bring water though! The park doesn't seem to have clear water but other than that it's a great place to enjoy and bring your family and/or friends.
Open fields, outdoor classes and activities for children, room to walk and bike, outdoor workout stations you can use as you jog around the entire path/track, friendly/diverse community gatherings, everyone plays their own music, cricket games, football practice, baseball diamonds.. everything and more. This place is fun for the whole family.
Huge park. Perfect for cross-country running.
Community events, lots of space, good playground for the kiddios, great options for outdoor exercises. Pull up bars, dip bars, push up bars, two good running tracks. Tennis courts, hand ball courts, etc. Great park for the neighborhood overall 👌 …
One of the few places that is in the Bronx that is vast enough that you can find your own spot. Trails for hiking, biking, running or just being tranquil. I truly believe it's an underrated gem of a park.
I've always loved this park as it where I used to run the cross country paths during junior high, high school, college, and in the past few years when I returned to NYS. Yesterday I arrived at the park with my sister's dog for a quick walk and jog an hour before the NYC curfew went into effect, although it seems it was not enforced in the Bronx. The park was well-maintained and the few people there were actually on their way out of the park. I wore my face mask while there even though the dog and I were pretty much alone.
There is now a skate park at the southern end of the park where once stood an empty lot section of the park. The two tennis courts that were located near the stadium have been replace by an enclosed bench seating area with manicured lawn. Parking on the street side of the park is usually full however if you wait long enough a spot will open up. Great place to run, jog, horseback ride, play sports, go swimming, lounge, and picnic. There is also a small dog park at the northern end of the great lawn.
Always a great Jog. Always clean and vibrant.
Forgot how nice it was have a stroll in this park.
Wonderful, relaxing, yet avoid on good weather weekend days, crowded on occasion in some parts of the park, people are friendly, meet in close groups but many do not wear masks and may be walking around the park on busy occasions mask less. Otherwise lovely for exercising, enjoying green space, bike riding and fresh air.
Lovely looking park. Parking is a nightmarish punishment for a thing you didn't know you did and can't comprehend why it's happening.
Awesome place for an afternoon of mountain biking.
Fun day at a Track tryout. My son made the team!
Fun place to enjoy a little workout, hiking or biking.
Walking and hiking trails can by found throughout the park. On special days in the summer you can hear some pretty good sounds and may even catch a fireworks 🎆 show. …
Is the perfect place to go when you want to run and distract your mind. A beautiful park for competition.❤
A beautiful park on the North West end of the Bronx. Jogging, bicycling, Handball, Skating, Golf, a playground for children, horseback riding...but for some reason they will not fix the basketball court. For several years now. I wonder why.
Literally the greatest park in NYC - amazing running trails
I love this place as do other runners. Trails in the hilly woods are legendary for cross-country meets; there's a track oval too. And then there's those who play cricket on the paradegrounds. Plus a historic house museum, pool, tennis, horse stables, ball fields, nature center, playground with sprinklers, golf course. What more could you ask for? (Well, actually , everyone would love an ice rink.)
This place is a great park, it has history and many activities to do like sports, fishing, BBQ and more but it's also has a golf course and you need to pay for that I think because when I towards one I was stop by some guy who told me I don't belong here. Also if you fish there you need a license and follow the rules, its a catch and release.
Nice park
I NOTICED SOME GREAT PICNIC AREAS
Great walking trails and large open feilds for the kids to play
Amazing park. Brought charcoal for grilling. Had an awesome time for a birthday gathering. Parking was horrible since it's under construction and rangers give tickets for parking in the park on side of the road.
Big open park where u can have picnics or cookouts. There's also a park incase you want your kids to play around. There's a bathroom there but there's only one stall and a urinal but the bathroom door is always open. There's usually a line of people outside the open door waiting there. So there's not a lot of privacy. But otherwise the park is great.
If you happen to be in the Northwest Bronx and love everything from swimming, to basketball and baseball, as well as Golf, than Van Cortlandt is the park for you. There's even sightings of rare bird life . The topography is vast and can be enjoyed by hiker's and biker's. Runner's and sunner's
In top 5 parks in NYC. I'd say second after central park. Van cortlandt park is full of history. They recently added a recreational skate park and are still renovating much of the park including preservation and vegetation around the miles of trails. Golf course and many fields.
Amazing place but it's better in the morning very early
They have horses in Van Cortlandt. Great place to take your kids to experience horse back riding.
It's getting redesigned, adding a lot of good places to hang out and relax in a can nice park. They are also building a new skatepark, making the park really versatile. The park has so many things, and that's why it's a park that it's very high on the list for me.
I absolutely love Van Cortland Park!! My childhood park. The trails are lovely. I used to purposely get lost with my dogs on the trails! I personally think it's better than Central Park. Just saying... (I like Central Park as well).
I was looking for a place to go hiking in the city and decided to check out Van Cortlandt because I heard there was a bunch of hiking path mostly on the west side of the park. Why there's 2 golf courses here is beyond me, they should use one for more park space, but whatever. We walked around roughly 8 miles. It was pretty easy to navigate once we found a map (they have them for free near the visitors center) There's only one high point where you can see the city off in the distance, but other then that it's just a nice refreshing walk in the woods. I really want to go back in the fall, it will be so beautiful walking though all the foliage.
Love coming here. Always nice to bring my dogs. If im honest the only problem I've had here is that my dogs always bring a tick home. Like what is that about. I take them to other parks and it doesn't happen. Im still coming back, but i ALWAYS make sure to give my dogs baths IMMEDIATELY after coming home from this park. Always find At Least 1 tick . 🤢
Excellent place for jogging, meditation, sports, spend time with family and friends, they a pool and even an ice skating rink on winter time.
Very convenient, located on Broadway and W 242nd st, in the border of the Bronx and Yonkers, near subway station, (last stop of #1 train), Manhattan College and Words of Life Church (Palabras De Vida). A lot of food available in the area, parking lots, gas Stations, Motel, Doctor Offices, grocery store, etc.
Great playground for children. Just have cash on hand. There are ice cream trucks, hot dog carts and water guns. You would not believe how much they live the water guns. Bring a change of clothes. Sprinklers fountains and lots of fun. Kids will never want to leave.
Rarely overwhelmed with crowds. With good weather, it's easy to pitch a cabana in the middle of the parade grounds and feel like you have the place to yourself. Lots of trails...on the bike path you can go for tens of miles up toward westchester. Always feel safe here.
Awsome park with plenty of open space. There's a public pool, tennis courts, a track and field and there is also a golf course. Some areas of the park do become over crowded during the warm summer days. But over all a wonderful resource.
Beautiful place, a perfect blend of country and city, trails and running track. However, irresponsible dog owners can turn a lovely walk into a bad experience. Some people think they can turn their dogs loose on the trails and athletic fields. Signs are very clear that all dogs need to be leashed. Thankfully, the parks police travel on horse and they give out summons. For the most part, it's a very nice place to enjoy nature walks and go trail running.
Big park with different things depending on which area you go to. I frequent the area by W 242nd st and run the wooded trails. There's also a concrete track for those who prefer running in circles. Usually cricket games going on Saturday mornings. Generally kept clean, and the people I come across tend to be polite and friendly.
Cemetery hill is real tough. Fun course tho
#mulchfest 2019. Van Cortlandt Park-golf course parking lot.
0 waste by 2030 #0x30
Thank you very #mulch
The best public course in the area! Many of the holes are harder than they appear. And the staff is great too!
This is a really great place to take your kids. They have several cricket fields, a golf course, and several activities can take place at the same time. There are a few mossy areas but it is an outdoor park so that is expected. Bathroom facilities are clean but not very many and may be a bit far depending on where you are. Great for a picnic though.
The remodel around the basketball area is taking way too long. More police presence is needed around the park, some people do not know how to behave at the park... There are too many birthday parties at the park and the music is playing extremely loud. Sad because it is a beautiful park! 😔 …
Wonderful park with very diverse attractions. I'm a huge fan of the trail running. Nothing technical (if you're experienced) but if you know your way, you can easily string together 10+ miles of running in the woods.
Pretty good park. Tons of open space and great spots for picnics and events. Me and my cousin got locked in at night and we had to hop a fence with our bikes to get out, causing me to rip my pants and expose my bare butt. Parents got pissed. 10/10
A park for the common folk, but still alot to do. The pool was nice. People were everywhere having kids partys and baby showers. Nice place on a good day. Weather wise
You can have a great walk and enjoy the nature at the same time.
Place is pretty big, some parts feel pretty deserted. Most of it is part of a golf course though and private. The length makes a good jog and there are hills and boulders you can climb. The park is mostly woodland with a big field in the South.
I know that these are trying times and Van Cortlandt Park is a sure fire way to find some peace. It is sprawling and is reportedly larger than Central Park. The track seems endless a d the stone bleachers are a God Send. Parking is adequate if you arrive early in the day and the #1 train ends where the park begins. A beautiful and free getaway in New York City. Oh... and you GOLFERS...They have a huge course. Get there and leave me a parking spot.
Beautifull place where you could go with family and friends for a picnic, bbq, or even just a stroll in the park. The fresh air is amazing and i felt so good walking threw Van Cortlandt Park!! If your by the area you should definitely drop by.
Very nice cool place to sit and relax
Really enjoyed the vastness of this park! Although park is huge it also offers U a sense of oneness w nature and w oneself.Visit for a day of fun w friends and or family.or go solo to meet nice people who may become future friends.U can enjoy an occasional softball game or soccer game so trust me they r alot of things to do in Van Cortlandt Park!!Go and visit!!!!and most of all ENJOY!!!
The park has large chunks that are wild and woodsy, and the rangers told me especially in bad weather, the deer come out because they know humans tend to stay away. While I didn't see any during my visit, I did take some of their nature trails which are more vigorous than I was expecting for a park in the boroughs! There are some reasonably steep inclines and big rocks to climb.
I have always liked it there, a nice place to go & get that great exercise. I see A Lot of people without the mask on which is pretty disrespectful to other's & I also believe NYC Parks Enforcement should be going through a lot more often then they do. Weed smokers, some drinkers that leave bottles around, & dogs not on the leash.
Large, beautiful park with many facilities. It’s easy to access by subway and bus. I’d give it 5 stars, but I’m a cyclist, and every time I ride the paths through the park—even for events like The Tour de Bronx when thousands are enjoying the same route—there is one section that is always so muddy one has to dismount and do one’s best to navigate—and this has been true for at least the three years I’ve been riding through there. It’s a safety hazard for cyclists and pedestrians and must be well-known to park maintenance. It’s worth fixing, guys!
The trip was amazing. I was here for a cross country meet and the courses are amazing and have a great srounding. It's open for sports and has enough shade for kids and families to relax. Water is available almost anywhere and I'd gladly go again.
Great family place. This is the place to be with tour family. Not too many people go and thats what make this place unique.
Clean, people of all ages running/walking the track. Park Rangers usually visible. My puppy enjoyed his walk after he handled his business in the doggie park. I went to JFK in the 70's so it's great to still visit this park.
It's a great place to go to if you want to get away from the noise of the city, lots of trails to hike on and hidden gems to discover. However, you do have to be careful of the predatory men who have recently been lurking around the park and following people into the hiking trails. Try to go with a friend or just be aware of your surroundings
Everything you want in a park, including the golf course with a clubhouse and snacks. Great walking and biking
The best park to go out with the little ones and enjoy the scenery. Plenty of trails and little nooks to see. The horse stables are dope as well!
Great family park, plenty of space and outdoor activities!! We enjoyed it.
One of the more underrated parks in NYC, Van Courtland is expansive and beautiful. Its walking trails help you forget the most densely populated borough that surrounds you. Several fenced in ballfields are found here along with a lake, pond, stables, and a museum. Van Courtland is more like Pelham Bay than Central Park, but it's easier to get to. Take time to explore its four corners, and feel like you're already in Westchester County or Upstate!
Very spacious and clean. Ideal place for jogging, a dog walk and any athletic activities.
Very beautiful & well kept! I love taking nature walks through here either solo or with my dog.
I've been wanting to fly a kite for quite some time. So I decided after a quick meal me, and my Lady took a short walk within the park into a large field. I was able to get the kite flying, and of course it bought back memories of my teenage years. Considering the times we are in, it was much needed. GO!
Beautiful open park that offers a wide variety of things to do.
It's clean and has room for everything. There is a pool and a big park for children to play
This is such a beautiful park. Took my dog on a 2 hour hike. Lots of paths and side paths!
Not only is it pretty, the area has real historical significance as George Washington's house/lodging is also on the park grounds.
came out for the philharmonic concert that is thrown ever year. Always a good time. Today the weather was cool and breezy. The fire works after we're really nice. The park itself is pretty clean. The trails to walk and hike and bike are getting better and better every year. Very beautiful space.
Wonderful park. It's really big, has a field for playing soccer, football, baseball, whatever you want. Has hiking trails, a pool, and so much more. The (1) train along with a bunch of MTA and Bee Line buses via Broadway make it easy to reach.
Wonderful park! fit for rest or exercise, can tennis or basketball, also has an playground for kids. many buses stop here and shops and restaurants nearby. If you are running in the morning, remember to wear appropriate clothes, otherwise you will catch a cold.
Good for running, biking, walking! Big trail in terms of being in the Bronx! People also play baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and cricket. There's also a tennis court and small dog park. Then there's trails that lead to out parts of the area where they have their jogging events. People also tend to just hang out and picnic there. Overall pretty chill place to be.
Nice park. Lots of open space. View of Manhattan.
Parking is tough. Went for a cross country race. Full disclosure I didn't see most of the park only the area where the race started and finished and it was unkempt and not clean.
Nice park, well maintained athletic fields. You could walk around the woodland trails for hours. Just wish the city would put in a mountain biking trails. That would awesome, maybe a pump track, you know, for the kids.
Such a beautiful park. There are so many little hiking trails, places to BBQ, picnic and enjoy the good weather. It truly is a gem!
You want to walk flatlands? Come here. You want hilly terrain and forest-feels? Come here. You want to sit back and watch the birds? Come here. You want a place for your family to rest and chill picnic-style? Again, come here.
Rail trails running through the park are great for biking.
Spacious, good trails for walking, skating, biking and running. Paved roads also. Gorgeous park
Huge park with ares for different activities - golf, baseball, hiking, running, horse stable, Croton Aqueduct, forest, hills, famous Lloyd carrot cake and many more others. Easy accessible from 1 train.
This park is great. It has several baseball or softball fields as well as swimming pools for adults and children. There's plenty of space for sun bathing and BBQS for everyone. They also have a 🏇 stable and a golf course, running track and other sports related facilities. Parking is available and plenty of public transportations such as trains and buses will get you there 24/7.
Lots to do, whether you are hiking, horseback riding, golfing, fishing... A fun spot easily accessible by subway with a more relaxed vibe than Central Park.
It's a beautiful place to run, play cricket (for those of you that do), have a picnic, nature watch, and just about all the park activities you can think of. The back hills are especially nice on hot summer days, providing shade and cool breezes.
There are many trails you can follow deep in side the northern part of the park. The South County Trail is frequented by many, taking you as far north as Elmsford.
Top location in the Bronx for picnic l as crowded than Pelham bay if you are in northern east Bronx is a good choice for picnic or exercise
I love parks and recreational facilities/areas. I love nature. There is a beautiful walking trail thereabouts. Once the trees and flowers have bloomed, it will be an even more beautiful sight
Great place for sport activities, chilling and walking! It is my fav park in NY by far, though few people can say so.
Fresh air and atmosphere always inspires me for good reading and training, depending on the mood I have 😎
And, of course, it's a great location for pictures and meetings with friends.
I love the pool here they did a lot of new painting … giant connect 4 for the kids …. Bathrooms are super clean as well as the locker rooms …. Doing a good job over there !!!
1 of the top parks in all of NYC! And 1 of the 3 largest parks in all of NYC, after Pelham Bay Park in the east side of the north Bronx (#1) and Greenbelt Park in Staten Island (#2). Beautiful trails for running and biking. Great ball fields, a pool, tennis courts, a track, a great dog run, a giant public golf course, horse riding grounds and stables, a lake, a stream, and the list goes on.... All used constantly by the community. A real gem in the city.
Club outside!! The place to be every Friday Saturday & Sunday night!
Different way to spend time! Instead of being crowded inside bars and clubs. We hang out OUTSIDE food good music and dope vibes!
Visited for Tribeca film festival movie screening. The park was easy to get to. The event was organized and entertaining. Even though it started to rain most of the movie goers were still excited about the film shown.
Beautiful scenery, very nice location, kept up reasonably well. Everything you would expect in a park, you can picnic, go along the walking paths, enjoy watching the fowl on the pond, jog, sit on the bench, get on the swings, ...
I use the tracks whenever I can to train middles distance. There's plenty of running paths where you can put in 10 miles easily. Great local place for runners. During the summer it can get crowded but I've always found room open up and charge!
Some of the last few visages of the wild Bronx before Mass agricultural extermination, and killing of most things wild. Big enough of a park you could intentionally stay to yourself. Easy to get to via MTA. Would visit again! The BBQ culture here is there too...
Beautiful park that spans five huge feilds. Always a great park for all sports. Friendly parks and recreation employees. An awesome friendly stable for horseback riding. beautiful well keept horses. It offers a little bit if that country getaway in middle of the city with miles of riding trails. Fairly well maintained track for jogging. Public swimming pool. However extremely crowded as any city park pool would be. Pool is a good place for mid aged teens. Plenty of space to have family gathering and barbaqus. Nice veterans memorial. Very well maintained public restrooms!👍👍All around a wonderful public park.
Its the perfect weather to walk the trails or picnic in the park....great for outdoor fun ⚽️⚾️📸📻🚵♂️ …
A gem in the Bronx. Play at sunset. It's gorgeous. Also love how the course is split into parts - almost feels like the way the City is divided. My favorite part is the path that borders the parkway and brings you to the wonderful driving holes at the turn. Great great course.
Van Cortlandt Park is a beautiful city park in the Bronx. So much to do here, tennis courts, jogging paths, bike paths, cross country running, swimming pool, BBQ grills provided, hand ball and paddle ball courts or just visit the lake for fishing. I'm fortunate to live within 10 minutes of walking distance.
Van Cortlandt Park is 1149 acres of old growth forest dating back to the end of the last ice age 17,000 years ago. It also played a key role in American settlers and native Americans joining together to defeat the British during the Revolutionary War. The only construction allowed here is for tennis courts, softball fields, football fields and playgrounds. There is also a lake and museum at the south end. The park is both beautiful and historic.
Decent selection, great staff. I thought they had food, but no. Nice little stop.
The most amazing park grounds ,very clean bathrooms and great manicure grounds, there's BBQ Grills and tables everywhere and u must come early to get a good spot,as this park tents to get pretty crowded but with families and very little noise depending on who you are next too,but all an all is perfect to get away from the home.
Very nice park big and have everything you want even a public pool
This hidden park is a gem and has quit a few things to do. You can go for a relaxing jog while you watch people play cricket, soccer, baseball, handball, basketball, and golf. We must not forget the swimming which is open during the summer and the laid back barbecue area. If you are into photography you will have the opportunity to take great pictures of the wild life and nature. You do not drive? Not a problem because this park is also located near public transportation.
Excellent park in the hart pf Bronx. It has 5 cricket pitches and 4 football feilds sourounded by trees. Its a great place to visit in the summer. The hiking trail is nice and easy to follow. The park has a welcome center and bathrooms. The bathrooms are usually clean.
This is a great place to hike, trail run, walk your dog, and I even see horse shoe tracks so you can apparently do that too. There are are so many trails and miles of them, you could visit different parts if this park for a long time before needing to visit a different section.
Sprawling urban park with running and hiking trails and a lake. Can get crowded on weekends but always manageable. Excellent running around the parade grounds or x-country to the Yonkers border and beyond.
Beautiful park in the Bronx! Huge! Can do a lot... Running on tracks (1.4 mile track) or trails, hiking trails, horseback riding, fields and courts for sports (cricket, soccer, baseball, and tennis are the ones I've seen). Picnics and BBQs definitely occur as well!
As someone who probably spent have his teenager life here, I would have to say this is by far one of the most amazing parks to train at. The trails in the park are phenomenal and suitable for for beginners and pros alike. The park has many paths nearby the bridge, and alongside the bridge, there is another trail that leads north to Yonkers, which is called Putnam trail. If you're looking for a long straight run, I would recommend that trail for you. It has beautiful sights and even an awesome lake somewhere on the other side.
As a non runner, this park also has a closed circuit trail that should be well suited for those who just want to walk and enjoy the bright sun. Along that circuit are little stations for working out, you'll see some sit-up benches, and dip bars. At the northern quadrant of that circuit is also a canine fenced park in case you want to let your pet roam around.
I was at the pool but I was sad to see them doing construction in the summer. Why the summer? When people want to picnic?
Also the kids pool should have a little cute slide. And why can't people bring fun pool things? Why so many strict rules I don't get it...
I enjoyed seating and doing my meditation or just go for a horse ride. It's a peaceful and relaxing surroundings in the park.
Love exploring new things about the park. Dog friendly and others respect your space. It's great in the winter morning gets the blood flowing. Or you can freeze :-@(not,so move your a**)looking forward to the spring see you out there.
Limited free parking but paid parking garage close by. Great place for family fun from playgrounds, dog parks, pools, tennis courts, running/walking/biking trails. Variety of athletic fields, picnic areas, learning facilities etc..
Stable horses trainers riders.
Larger horses upper portion of park picnic area rest room summer
Have small band classical music
LOT of trails to walk or run jog.
If it BE you feel safe in doing so. With all these unusual incidents occure.
Beautiful park with trails for hiking, fields for playing sports and running, Public swimming pool, hand ball courts, and a golf course. It is one of the suggested spots for watching meteor showers at night, or in summer nights fire flies. If you are lucky you might see deers, fox, and red tailed Hawks here.
Nice nature trails and lakes to walk around.

It’s beautiful it’s still needs more I know the county’s amazing and doing great things there. The park itself has been around and undoubtedly been one of the best in Westchester. I love it cos I can come out here exercise and have fun. Food is close by buses and trains right around the corner. It’s music to my ears.
Excellent place for children entertainment
Nice pleasant place to get into shape . I never seen a track as big like Van Cortlandt park . Thought my run would never end . Going back tomorrow.
Love this park for the biking trails. The Putnam bike trail is great. Leading all the way up to Yonkers. There is a beautiful Lake by the side of the trail and plenty of places to take pics or just relax and enjoy the scenery. There are also many other things to do in this park. A word of caution...this park is huge so I don't recommend it for ladies to wander alone after it gets dark or too early in the morning. You never know what lurks deep inside. But take someone with you and enjoy!
It was fun until me and some of my pals started to explore even slightly off the path, we went through this broken hole in a fence and we found cool spot to relax. Until I turned to look around and saw some crazy teen sitting there under a broken tree in all black...he looked like he was planning to kill us, making bear noises to scare us off........not a pleasant moment at all 😐😶.
Van Cortlandt Park is located in BRONX, N.Y.
It is one of the best places in the BRONX where you can go and really enjoy yourself with friends and family . It is very clean and it has beautiful green picnic areas. It also has a beautiful little lake, where you can see some wildlife. It also has toilet facilities. You can get there by subway. It's very nice. When you are inside the park it is so beautiful that you forget that you are in the BRONX. I highly recommend a visit.
We had my dogs birthday there everyone is friendly at this park.
So much to do here. Take a long walk, watch the college soccer and track games, play tennis, enjoy the museum and play golf. Hard to find parking on Broadway unless you do like me and park in the back near the swimming pool. There is ample free parking.
Great open space to play with your dog(s)
Nice park.. Clean and nice trails
One of the best parks and second largest park in nyc. Great walking trails, Running track, places to bike, golf, horse back riding, bbq& pinics, swimming, cute little museum & nature center, tennis court & hand ball court, great place play soccer, baseball & basketball and currently under construction to build skateboard & bicycle park. Excellent place sit down on benches and take in a good book.
Surprisingly it was not packed there was parking along Broadway the only thing is the bathroom is 7 miles away and you really actually have to drive there it is absolutely awful unless you go to the gas station other than that it was a great great day
Nice place to work out! Huge track! Nice trails, and work out stations!
Huge park. Lots of sports and activities you can do there. Accessible by the 1 train. There's metered parking around the park. Parking might be limited if there are big events such as the weekly Saturday morning high school cross country races.
You can get so lost in this park. I would give it 5 stars but unfortunately a lot of the trails are filled with trash. Overall the park is large and there are sections of the park that can be very lively but also very quiet.
Great place to go for a bike ride. The ex Putnam Division of the New York Central Railroad provides some unique scenery of views of the park. Just wish the path wasn't so bumpy!
Lots of variety. Fun for the whole family. GOLF, BBQ, Horseback riding, playgrounds, tennis, cross country running, a speed track, plenty of parking. It really is an amazing place.
This is by far the best public park in the Bronx. It has amenities such as baseball fields, soccer fields, barbecue area, toddler playground, pet playground, hiking trails, running track, golf, handball, and many more. Also the bird species migration is phenomenal for bird lovers. I would definitely recommend this park to anyone for any occasion.
Very nice park, to run, walk, bike, i dod not run the whole park, but at least 4 miles.big open field, to play soccer, baseball or anything that the kids xan run around.
Beautiful gem of a park in the Bronx. Great for jogging, walks, trail walks, biking, ect.
Great golf course that is challenging but fun to play.
Large beautiful park in the Bronx.
The Empire Trail is great.....part of me is saying don't share so it stays pristine....but then again all NYC deserves the right to enjoy the park
Plenty of space to walk around. There is a good jogging path and back in the hills. Used to go there more often. Picture is of me stuck in the usual morning traffic. Parking can be tight near Van Courtland Park. 1st Public Golf Course in the USA. Tee it up!!
Ball fields, tennis courts, running track, nature walks, golf course, horse stables, playgrounds! Great open spaces. And the lake and the birds! And trees! ❤
The size of the place is amazing . The park runs from the Yonkers city line well into the Bronx . I've been going since the late 70's and there was a bike trail in the park . I don't know if it's still there but we had a great time riding that trail from Yonkers into the BX .
Nicely renovated! Very big space for kids to run around. The space is enclosed so it takes the worry about kids running out. Its geared towards 2 to 5 yr olds.
Great park ! They have tennis courts, a track, a playground for kids, basketball courts, walking trails, and many other things . A lot of buses also stop here and it's near some stores and restaurants including a Burger King . Also, people seem very friendly on this side of town . Ice cream trucks also come around during the spring and summer . Definitely worth checking out if you're on this side of the borough .
Beautiful Park. Hiking trails that lead into Yonkers. When you are on the trails, the sounds of city disappear. So peaceful. There are bike trails, and a cross country trail. Download the map and look for signs and trail markings. I will visit many times more.
Great way north out of the traffic. Just be careful not to swallow any bugs😁 …
Running trail
I went here to to try a new path for running. Twice around is 2.97 miles (I entered the park across from Lloyd's Carrot Cake.) I recommend this area if you want to get some outdoor exercise.
It can get pretty crowded there, but nothing like having a park not far from where you live. We use almost all aspects of it. Love it!
This is my favorite park in NYC for trail hiking. There are many paths and trails, some more challenging and others quite easy. I've seen deer and other animals on the nature trail. Every time I've gone, the trails have never been crowded - sometimes I'll go long stretches of time without running into another person.
I love this park, there's something for everyone.
Beautiful park in the west Bronx. Very spacious. Almost like Central Park with all is the different things you can do. Theres trails for biking and running, plenty of benches. Great for morning walks! Easy access via public transportation.
Love this park. Plenty of space for exercise and social distancing. Love the picnic areas. Clean. I try to visit everyday to exercise and to release stress. Safe.
Beautiful park, although it’s so big I can only speak for the north side. Great place to get away from the city.
A park that will always make me feel good at heart. A phenomenal landmark in the bronx. A vast park with a wholesome ecosystem that makes you feel engulfed by all the nature. A great place for a run, stroll, sports, socializing, relaxation, and happiness.
I was pleasantly surprised about how nice this park was. My cousin held his bbq here and it was my first time going. I was a bit apprehensive because it was in the bronx and the last post I went to up here was not nice at all but it turned out to be pretty nice. there were sprinklers in the kiddie park, it was a huge park ( I had a hard time funding him lol) very clean and nice atmosphere. it seems like everyone has parties up here. I saw quite few kids parties being held here and other bbqs as well. it happened to be held on the hottest day of the year so far but there was a slight breeze from the trees ( which were pretty humungous). overall I would go again
This place gives me a peace of mind. I love to meditate here
Awesome park all year round. You have Paddleball, Racquetball, handball, football, soccer, (basketball courts plus Skateboarding ramps area Under construction), picnicking, swimming, golf, historical sites, jogging, bike riding and training to ride a bike. North end has horse back riding..
New York Philharmonic summer concert in the parks
Great trail for walking, running, and biking. The beginning of the South County Trail.
This is a one of the best places in the Bronx. Van Cortland Park has good hiking trails, a nice running path, excellent soccer fields, and baseball diamonds, all in all a great place to bring the family and spend a day relaxing..l
I love Vannie. It is down the hill from my high school, and the view from Vault Hill is incredible over the Parade Grounds to The Bronx and Manhattan. The dog run is nice and the equestrian centre is ideal for learning riding in the City. There is a golf course, nature and hiking trails, concerts and shows in the summer, the cross country running tracks are the best in the City and the museum at the Van Cortlandt Mansion is nice. I would like to see the Parks Department take better care of the cemetery on Vault Hill. It is overgrown and sacrilegious. The Van Cortlandts buried there deserve better. Outside of that go up to Treaty Rock from the Cemetery and see the natural council seat of the Native Americans that were first here. You can feel their presence still. That is peace. And that's what a park should do for you.
The track team I was on used to practice here. We would run down from JFK high school to this cross country track. At that time there was no girls track team so I had to run on the boys team. Cross Country running was my hardest challenge. But running through the trees, into the woods, I would feel like I wasn't in the city anymore. A great feeling for a city girl. Coming back to this park brought up great memories. I am proud that my New Yorkers have kept this park in great shape!
Absolutely gorgeous this time of year and freshly paved! It was a joy to ride through.
Lovely park in the Bronx. Easily accessible from the #1 at 240th. Open air swimming pool, Children's play area, playing fields and courts. Nature area and walks. Popular for picnics. Enjoy!
It was probably one of those walks that get you thinking about nature, the environment and what needs to be done to keep spots like Van Cortland Park alive. What else is there when the world continues lose most of its fauna and flora? Let's then keep walking into this unique spot anytime we can to make the huge investment made here worthwhile.
"Where NYC goes to hike!" Beautiful park with trails into the woods, as well as a wide open field. The neighborhood is quiet (the 1 train ends nearby), and I feel safe here. Don't miss the Van Cortlandt House Museum, the oldest museum of its kind in NYC!
Wonderful track and more so the south county trail for running or cycling.
Plenty of trails and places to go! Best to stay on the trails unless you know nature and how to avoid poison ivy and ticks. Nature is nature!
Fantastic and huge park. But there are so many hills. Prepare for a challenge if you decide to do any races here. A great place to run, but certainly difficult!
Love to go for walks in the Northwest Woods or around the Parade Ground, or just pull up a chair by the lake. I wish more people in Manhattan realized how great the park is... but then again, maybe not, because then it'd be more crowded! ;)
Perfect place to chill Grill be at peace literally
Nice park to walk, run observe the nature relaxing. Even some come here or sunbathing 😊. South side of the park has play ground, and some steel structures for doing stretching and some other exercises. …
Bring your camera for some nice shots and take a small historic look at what used to be part of a train system that once ran through here which was once the north-south county trail of westchester. There is also a great track and field if you want to grab some exercise on any given day as well.
A wonderful park, perfectly designed, maintained and attended. Very quiet and beautiful, a great refuge, a little heaven.
Excellent park always fun to go for a walk in. The place is also pretty good for fishing. Most of the times it is pretty clean and is a beautiful park.
The traffic here is not bad at all, and I come here to skateboard and practice my tricks. Very smooth pavement, and the spark is not very active after hours. Very active Wild life here.
Our experience fared better than we expected. The siding installed on the garage turned out wonderfully. The installation was done professionally by men whose work ethic was exceptional. Everyone we dealt with seemed to take their responsibility seriously yet always dealt with us warmly. I most likely will share my experiences with others looking for a reputable company that delivers on their promises. Will do business again in the future.
I enjoyed the park a lot but was hoping for more of an escape. It's surrounded by a golf course and highway, making it hard to really get away. Otherwise beautiful and well maintained.
Parts of the park are neglected. They partially cut the grass unless someone has reserved a field. Concrete walls and benches are decaying and railings are rusting and rotting. The lark has a lot of potential if the city maintained it. Would probably make more revenue ... I give it a 3 because it has potential to be greater if they maintained it properly.
This park is spread out across many busy highways. There are many playgrounds with splash pads for children, a legit swimming pool complex to meet many levels of swimmers, and more to offer. However, it is difficult to get from one side of the park to another.
Great place to run or walk early in morning
Bronx at its best. Walk the Putnam trail or run the track in the Parade grounds or long walks up to the North woods and see old growth trees. So much of this park is left it the natural. You can walk on
secluded trails and enjoy nature of NY from hundreds of years ago.
We love going for walk here. So many cool things to show our daughter. She love to find new things on ours walk like leaves, rocks different birds and lil critters.
Good place for long walks
I love Van Cortlandt Park during all seasons. The park is endless and you can bike ride thru trails into yonkers. .you can swim during the summer in the pool...jog on the track and stop if you like to work out on the equipment ...there's a dog park...and horse rides. The enjoyment is endless and up to you. Even though I feel safe i would like to see more Park Rangers or police. It's a big park.
The Staff were Wonderful & Welcoming❗The Guided Tour was Very Informative & Interesting! I will definitely Return in the Spring❗I suggest that they also Focus on the Poor Slaves who gave So Much of their Lives & Freedom to make life Comfortable for the Van Cortlant Family❗ 🐏🇺🇸📷📱🏫🗽🌎🌍🌏🌕⭐🌠☀ …
I love this park sights. I jog here and enjoy it every time I go. It has lots of trails and everytime I learn something new about it. Come and see Vancortland I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do!
Always nice with many unique parts to it.
Van Courtland park and stadium is my second House! It's a paradise,so relaxing park . we have restaurants, pizzerias, bars, deli and much more . I been coming here for the pass 50 years, actually I grew up here.the best park ever.
Yet another glorious park of the Bronx. Van Cortlandt Park is as beautiful in its landscaped areas as it is, in its more unkempt and wilder parts. There are plenty of recreational facilities and golf lawns for the sport enthusiasts. For everyone else, there are miles and miles of immersive and serene woodland trails, bicycle paths, views of the lake, and plenty of bird watching opportunities as there are varied species of beautiful birds that call the park home. Don't miss the Bridle Path when there during a spring or autumn day!
An awesome enormous park. If you want to see what NYC looked like before they paved over the place, this is a place to go. Miles of paths, and other facilities. Come up on Sunday and watch the Cricket matches on the lawns.
So many places to explore in this park. Nice trails, golfing, meditation, etc. Great place to clear your mind, feel the vibes and contemplate.
Great park! Amazing memories from my xc times. such a historic place. The backhills are actually extremely wild. Saw a deer there. Grown male deer, with antlers and everything.
Beautiful green lawn and some trails. Also part of the park stays on a area totally good for flying drones, although better check it online for an updated information.
Going to walk around in the got a lot of paths and you have good Wi-Fi service cell phone service yeah they have a haunted place or a house that you could go to if you want to see it I need to pay some cash of course not too much great to play games sports workout run hike or just chill out
Very clean and fun for bicycle rides
Very attractive and well maintained park
Whaooo
This park really brings the community together. There is always something happening on the field. It also has some great walking trails and scenic views.
Beautiful, historical, wide open, laid back and there's areas for the kids, dog and adults to visit
This is hilarious that there is such a thing as ratings for a park but hey listen we are living in a world that’s just unbelievable these days. I love this park is huge and clean. The bars near it are even better.
This nice park nice around that's with what I'm work
Pool was clean and they have good people working there, major turn around since I was last there back in 2003. Kiddie pool was under construction but should be back up and running now
Love finding walking trails in NYC!
Incredible park with tons to see, you can practice all sorts of sports or just chill, spacious and all around great
Beautiful park. Has parking on site which is nice. Park is huge so if you plan on exploring make sure to allot enough time to do so.
It's a beautiful park, full of nature, you can walk or ride a bike, do a picnic and enjoy the place.
I always went hiking here. Much quieter the Prospect Park with less people. Good trails, crazy bikers. They have bathrooms at the start of the trail.
