McConnell AFB FamCamp I
There are 10 pull through spaces in FamCamp I, full hookups, picnic table and fire pit at each pad. No problem with 30 amp hookup for the week we were here. There is a run/walking path, fishing ponds, lots of space and pavilions in this tucked away oasis near the Outdoor Rec Office. Occasionally a refueler comes or goes from the runway but I was surprised by how noise level was low. I enjoyed watching the big birds do touch and go. The facilities are easy to access. The Dining Facility is great and open to all. We loved it here during our week visiting family on Wichita. Lovely setting and peaceful, well maintained site.
I am enjoying my time at the McConnell AFB FamCamp. The cooler weather makes this part of base a beautiful and peaceful paradise. The people at Outdoor Recreation help to keep the area clean and inviting, with nice activities to pass time during a stay. I prefer taking long walks and enjoy the quietness that nature provides, so I cannot comment on other activities that I know McConnell Outdoor Recreation offers to it's guests or base personnel.
We were in Fam Camp 2 which has electric and water but you have to use a central dump site and you have to travel about a mile to Fam Camp 1 to shower, use the restroom and laundry. Fam Camp 1 has full hook ups. The sites are easy to back into and level. Shade trees are behind Fam Camp 2 sites with picnic tables and charcoal grills. Stop at Outdoor Rec (up road 1/2 mile) when checking in. PX, Commissary and gas statiin/BX is approx 1 mile up road before campground. Gym is in bldg with ITT and other support offices near PX. Tornado bunkers are positioned near fam camps. Fam camps are located on the old golf course on the south east area of base. Site 19 does not have water hook ups and can share closer sites.
We stayed in FamCamp 1 and have no complaints. The sites are nice and full hookups. We came during the off season so it was quiet with only a couple of other campers there. There are pay laundry facilities and restrooms. We didn’t use the restrooms so I can’t speak to those but the laundry was sufficient. What I did find really odd was the amount of traffic through the camp area when there were only a couple of trailers. So many cars just drive though, many stop for a few minutes, sometimes multiple times throughout the camp, some park near the laundry for a while but don’t seem to get out. It’s very strange. Not a big deal just odd. We would definitely stay here again.
Facilities are clean and I feel safe. Two storm shelters in place. I love the padded running trail and the newly added cross country grass trails. I don't run, but it does make a walk with my dog more interesting.
Bathrooms were horrible. Stained, old shower curtains, bugs...I've seen cleaner public bathrooms on the interstate. Made numerous attempts to contact host for payment, but no luck. People on the phone at Outdoor rec were nice though. Some cleaning and lawn edging would make this FamCamp look as nice as the rest of the base.
This place is utilitarian, well-maintained, and does not disappoint for all the basic amenities and intelligent layout. A pity it has so few sites. Every pad site is almost pool table level, plenty of space between each unit, and the bike riding is excellent on the paved paths. If you're planning to stay for a weekend, make your reservations as far in advance as you can plan.
Not a lot of spots for the space available and the space between campers is not a big footprint considering the amount of unused green space nearby. If you have AT&T forget good cellular service. No WIFI available and the cost is pretty high considering these factors. I’ve stayed on plenty of bases and even near large cities and didn’t have the amount of base traffic throughout the day. If you have kids or small dogs I would look elsewhere only because of the traffic. They do have a nice playground and a decent laundry room but I would spend a little more money if you are able to for the usual comforts you expect.
Nice small FAMCAMP situated next to a pond and a former golf course. Lovely walking/exercise path now on the course.
One of our favorite FamCamps to stay at!!! Super nice at FamCamp #1, where there are two catch and release ponds out your front door. Also, there's a wonderful walking trail. Laundry is free!!!! Bathrooms are extremely clean and air conditioned. Around the recreational area are pollinator gardens! There's a nice playground for the children. There's even a recycling dumpster! I can't say enough good things about this FamCamp! *Please note you will need your pet's vaccination records each time you check in at The Capitol Inn!
Great place to camp! Quiet and clean. Laundry room and bathrooms are air-conditioned. Very well maintained with concrete slabs and full hookups. Storm shelters available, just in case of threatening weather.
Weekend visit. Free laundry 😀! Hit the commissary, clean the motorhome, restock and go again. Very quiet peaceful place. Check out the dining facility they have a nice salad bar and make your own sandwich bar too in addition to amazing meals at amazing prices. …
We just used this campground for an overnight stay, nice sites and clean restrooms and laundromat. Sits next to golf course.
Grate place to camp. Must be military. The camp host has been there many year. Very very nice
Quiet, level parking spots, great price for full hookups. Could stand for a few trees getting planted, and some attention paid to the plumbing in the bathrooms.
Very very beautiful. It is always clean. Nice playground area for children. Exemplary walking path. We enjoy it every time we visit.
Stayed at the Famcamp at McConnell Air Force Base Wichita, Kansas. Easy in and out. Pull thru sites. 50 amp full hook ups. Will go back if in the area.
Stayed at the overflow area. Sites are small and close together, with electric and water only. Only need one night as i passed through town, McConnell famcamp did just fine.
Great area for a quick camping trip. Nice level ground, plenty of big trees for shade, tables and fire pits to use.
Nice place for a simple stay. Small fishing pond and a wonderful walking trail right out your door. Priced Right at $18!
Wonderful Scenery with Great Amenities.
Really nice Famcamp in #1. Excellent office staff, especially the Outdoor Rec cat.
Fishing ponds steps from our RV. Cement pads, good spacing between sites
Excellent on base recreation area. Seems duplicative as Wichita has excellent municipal parks.
Beutifull setting very pretty nice place to camp for the night
Poor Sprint cell phone reception. No wifi. Concrete site, fire pit and fishing lake.
And great ponds to fish in too. Bass pond and catfish pond. Several different species of fish.
Fam camp ⛺️ 1 fishing location! Snakes are in the area!!!
Mighty fun
Nice full hook up camp. Close to commissary and NEX.
Everyone friendly, place very clean
Great place to stay!
Great accommodations.
Great showers!!
Affordable. Utilities worked fine. Spacious concrete pads. Wi-Fi was superb (unlike the majority of RV parks). T-Mobile 5G was blazing fast (300Mbps+). Nearby walking paths. Close to the dining hall and other resources.
