Reviews of Greenbelt Park
Taryn Heckman
Perfect place for the whole family! We spent 4 nights here and the tent sites were amazing. The camp host was wonderful and very tentative. They were also quick to inform us of a tornado heading our way and gave us instructions on where to take shelter. Luckily we did not get caught in a tornado, but are very grateful for the way they were cautious and insure our family's safety!

Though we lived in the area for nearly 25 years (Montgomery County) this was our first time here. And a wonderful time of year for camping, too, with hardly anybody else here. We spent 5 nights in D loop in our 30 ft travel trailer, using our generator throughout the day and evening as necessary. Our site was just long enough for us, fairly level and open. We spent much of our time outside the park visiting family. And as close to very urban areas as it is, in the back of the campground it almost felt remote. Sunsets were beautiful.

I gotta say as my first time coming here there is so much space, it's within 15-20 minutes, and fun for all age groups! It was my first time at the park. I was participating in 'Eco-Games' a Sierra Club event! I'm a member, I went. It was very fun!
I was alarmed though at the park bathroom situation and lack of available staff concerning communicating about any concerns.
The bathroom needs soap on deck and ut didn't! Thank goodness I had hand sanitizer. The women's bathroom left sink didn't work. I used the one to the right side. Disappointed. Where is the funding for national parks like this going, if bathroom necessities are lacking? More funding for our state parks are needed!

I camped at this national park last night May 4th 2022. I am a tent camper and want certain things. I want a bathroom close. Before you book please know what you are booking. A great number of the camping sites have (for me) too much of a slant. I drove around took the number of different campsites and then booked
They charge 20.00 per night and have the discount rate of half price for the disabled card holders. The park is close to Washington DC.

Greenbelt Lake is beautiful and peaceful. Initially I struggled to find where it was located but a friendly neighbor put me on the path to the lake. She also said you can access the lake near Greenbelt police station. I walked around like 3 times and I think one time around the lake was 1.25 miles on my tracker. I went in the afternoon so alot of other people were there. I wouldn’t recommend going by yourself when it’s dark.

I took my girl dog on a walk here and she absolutely loved it. There is a lot of shade so you don’t have to worry about sun beaming down at you if your going on a hot sunny day. The only problem I received was their were no type of directions. You would keep walking and finally realize you are miles away from where you parked your car.
Tessa
Very pretty hiking trails and had the Junior Ranger Program which is a fun activity book for kids to do while there that they'll get a cool reward for completing.

With miles of unpaved trails meandering through a lush and verdant forest teaming with life, it is easy to forget you are inside the capital beltway. The freshly repaved roads throughout the park are a magnet for road bikes zipping up and down the small hills. Truly a wonderful outdoor oasis in the heart of the DMV.
Favio Urla
Plenty of parking alway a plus; and benches. No parking or entrance fee. Has a short trail and a long trail (1.4 miles). Pet friendly, but do please pickup after your friends 🐕💩 droppings. …
Kimberlee Walgamotte
Nice to find such a pretty spot on such a short notice. Traffic was very bad on the interstate, so I used the recreation.gov app and found a spot super quick. Woke up to the most beautiful fall day!
Mike Jones
Nice park in urban area. Hosted 40 years of Wednesday night bike racing, which is the only reason I go there!
Jim Cook
I love this park and have been coming here for 30 years. I’d give it five stars but government hiring freezes have resulted in the closing of all of the hiking trails! They no longer have the staff to maintain them. It’s too bad because I’ve many joy filled hours on those trails in past years.
I gave it 3 stars because it still has nice picnic areas with playgrounds for the kiddies. Plus, the campgrounds are nice. Admittedly, the volume of available campsites is drastically lower than it used to be because they don’t have the staff to maintain it all.
I will also say that the roads are nicely paved and suitable for comfortable bike riding. I believe they repaved the roads a year or two ago.
Sam Lim
No need to get accommodation in DC. Stay in camp site for dirt cheap! Drive to Campus Park station for subway into town. Spacious and tree lined sites. Loop B did not have any powered sites.
Brian Fry
Great park with clean trails. The signs could use a little work, but overall pretty clear. Good for just about any age or ability.
Erik Husby
Fabulous park! Biked from the north main entrance to the south entrance (accessible by bikes/peds only) yesterday to scope out the park, then returned to hike it today. I was able to walk the whole Perimeter Trail and the other shorter trails in an afternoon, and I loved it. The Perimeter Trail is really the park's best trail IMO -- you get such a variety of nature over the course of its 6-mile loop. I came across more varieties of mushrooms than I could take pictures of, had a close encounter with a family of white-tailed deer, and hiking along the creeks was just plain good fun in the woods. The road into the Laurel Picnic Area was closed, so fallen leaves covered the way as I walked in and had lunch on one of the picnic tables in the mossy middle of a deserted parking lot. Felt like a scene out of The Walking Dead. Had to shoo the spiders out of the sink in the bathroom, which was surprisingly in pretty good, working shape!
All in all, I'd give this park a 10/10. Sure, there's noise from the nearby that roads that you can't totally escape, but focus on the natural beauty around you and I'm sure you'll tune the traffic out in no time.

Depending on the purpose of your visit, this park may delight you or disappoint you. The park has very few trails with hardly any elevation, so it's a no no for serious hikers. Families can have picnics at the picnic areas if planning a day trip. You can also drive around the park stopping at creeks for quick pictures. To get the best experience, you should camp here. There are several white tailed deers in the park that you will spot if you plan to camp. It feels very private although you may here the sounds of the driving vehicles on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. I wouldn't go out of my way to be here again, but if it falls along your way, you can take a brief stop.

Fantastic place for camping or vanning. Lots of space, can be a bit tricky to find your assigned lot but it's a really quiet and peaceful place. There are men and women restrooms, each one heated with a spacious and private shower, which really came in handy. Each lot has a grill and firewood, and the grounds are monitored by park rangers and a campground host. There are trails for hiking, and the metro and shopping/food are close by as well. We paid $20 a night for 3 nights. I highly recommend.
jessica olden
Great hike/walk on the dogwood trail! The paths could use a bit more maintenance and a couple benches too! But it wasnt too hard of a walk/hike, the up and down hills were easy! Good for family outings!
Sajida Baig
I like walking with my family in this jungle five minutes away from my home.. its location make it so easy for us to experience comfortable walk in the wood. It has a big lush green ground and small play area for kids
Sean Troxell
The roads and parking lots are open again. We had a nice walk with the kiddos on a brisk sunny day.

Greenbelt Campground is an urban oasis just 12 miles from Washington, D.C. This beautiful, wooded park is known for its safety, affordability, peaceful surroundings and National Park Service hospitality.
This quiet campground has paved roads and parking spurs, which provide good access for cars and RVs alike. The site contains flush toilets, drinking water, showers and a dump station. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. For scout groups, please reserve the "Youth/Scout Only", which is open year-round.
Biswajit Ojha
It's dark and misterous. Beautiful!
Hannah T
Great campsite for our tent camping with kids. Had large lots and no gravel camping pad. We got a no electricity lot that Included water nearby and a shower/bathroom nearby and great trails for walking.
We did find a Lone Star Tick on one of our party while at the campgrounds. Hadn’t realized they were in the area.
Becky Weimer
Campground has no hookups but water is available and a dump station is present in the park. Slight road noise in November.
Thomas Faltens
I haven’t explored the trails in the park, but I assume it will look a lot like the photo throughout. The park includes campsites with fire pits, and there is s shower in each loop. It may not measure up to some of the larger parks in terms of natural beauty, but its location near the Capitol makes it a convenient and affordable way to explore the rest of this area.
Yanira Abarca
I love walking see the green and animals,on full is beautiful to see the difference color's
Becca Spicer
If you are looking to camp near the DC area you cannot beat this hidden gem of a park. It doesn't have a lot for amenities (electric or water hook-ups) but it's only 20 dollars a night to camp so that's understandable.
Kay Patterson
Warm, Friendly and Fun people.. Beautiful relaxing environment and lots of things to do. My Favorite Park so far.
Chantell Rich
The park itself was lovely and the staff were amazing, helpful and kind! My only complaint about this park would be the bath houses. There is no real privacy for the shower. There was only a shower curtain which was ripped and someone had taped it together which didn't do much privacy. As I was leaving the one of the toilet stalls, I was able to see the young lady who was taking a shower. Other parks that I've stayed at have either one toilet, sink and shower where you lock the door behind you so you're the only one inside or they have shower stalls that are actual small shower rooms inside of the restroom that have doors to lock. I found the bath house situation at this park to be unsafe as anyone could walk in on you. Needless to say, I did not shower here.
Rory Johnson
Nice inexpensive place to camp. I'm a tent camper. Found it to be quiet and convenient to the Greenbelt Metro station. No parking fees at the metro station on weekends and $2 weekend subway fares. There are some tips that I read from the Park about getting a site on the inner part of the loops, it being more level for tents.
M. Nicolaysen
We absolutely love staying at Greenbelt Park when we visit DC. It's very easy to access downtown from here. It's quiet, despite its easy access to the highway. The showers are clean (for camping) and the bathrooms have electricity. The area is very pretty!!
Katia Inevil
Firt visit the "the Dogtrails"
Despite of the bear trees... Nature has a way to still share its beauty.
Ps. Stay on the teail to easy to wonder and get lost. Haha.
Side not: coukd not find 🚻. …

Great public park to relax or hike in. There is a bathroom, a Kiddie playground and limited picnic area. Someone said there are nature tours. You will have to check it out. As far as camping, I not sure and there are different views on the subject. Good luck!
Filip Jasinski
Beautiful and addictive location. Trails in great shape, quiet and cosy atmosphere. Perfect place for a weekend family hike.
Miriam
Good atmosphere, not many people there but you can hear the traffic which diminishes your experience.
Jose Hernandez
Great place to share, picnic and play ground for kids and Family.
Jonathan Hasian
Greenbelt park is a large & gergous park in Maryland. The dogwood trail is my favourite one. Don't forget bring GPS/google maps with you while tracking if you don't want to get lost, GPS works well here.
Mary Gill
Nice public access camping area nestled in Greenbelt. Winding trails and campsite options. There is a fee per night. Rangers are sprinkled throughout for assistance. Get some fresh air and be tech free. Make a fire and create memories.
Richard Alexander
It's a beautiful oasis in the city. I came here for the first time this morning to go for a jog. Though I was here before the park opened, I was able to find an open parking area. The trails, at least the ones I was on, are poorly maintained. There are a number of large trees lying across the path along with areas of mud and water (understandable given recent rain). I did have the company of a number of deer which is a great way to start the day. One had a beautiful pattern of brown and white. A great short visit overall.
Yoj Rasaili
Very nice place and beautiful scenery. Best place for Morning/evening walk.
Vincent Sciarrone Jr (Vinnie)
Awesome camping location! First time camping in Maryland, and couldn't have picked a better spot! Sits atop a small mountain, with a blueberry nature trail and hiking trails. Located less the 30 minutes outside of DC. Giving it 5 ⭐'s out of 5, as I cannot wait to return again!
jing tian
Nothing special for sightseeing, but the dense trees are really great for trail run.
Marleyne Mauri
Location near DC, and Annapolis is great. Facilities are clean and well heated. But the grounds - we were in loop B mid March- were full of branches, not at all appealing. They paved the spots for parking but the surrounding to place a tent or chairs are not adequate for many sites. Tables are set all crooked,as if fallenfromthe skies.Ok for 1 or 2 nights .
Andrew “Buddy” McLaughlin
Greenbelt National Park is very special for what it is. Some aspects of the park of note: -There is slick new asphalt in a large loop that makes it really fun for doing road cycling.
-There are almost ten miles of trails that you can hike or run on and it's easy to park and go. The trails have pretty low levels of maintenance as far as runoff mediation goes but it's like a little trail oasis near DC.
-There are some nice camping spots and that's pretty cool.
The playgrounds are shabby, the views are nothing dramatic, you can hear intensely loud traffic in many places, and overall the park gets more use than maintenance but it offers some really special things just a short hop from urbanity.
Last note: if you park and walk into the woods with kids you can walk on fallen trees for hours. It's called 'loggin'.
Jimmy Hinsch
This is a great place to primitive camp. They have clean shower facilities. Close to metro for trip to D.C. Close to shopping.
Samuel Satterfield
I live nearby. It’s a great spot to go hiking. Not too challenging. A little hill-y but mostly flat and accessible. Great to see wildlife. I’ve seen deer, turtles, foxes, and all sorts of other critters.
The only note I have—Be on the lookout for dead trees. Lots of them throughout the park.
David Pierce
Great place for scout camping when visiting Washington DC. Separate campsite loop for youth groups. Only downside is the bathrooms are a little too small for the number of campsites
Rick Miller
Really large campground..sites are all in the completely surrounded by forest..and a great location for access to Washington DC..really nice and helpful camp hosts...
Mirko Abad
Great For relaxation, and sports.Very clean , nice and peaceful.
Seth Wolf
The park is closed to vehicle traffic right now, but after parking across University, we were able to walk in and still hike around. Compared to Rock Creek, the walk was quiet and there were very few people. The park was a great escape from the constant worry of being too close to other people.
Widjit
Fantastic place in the city to go for a hike.
Sarah Weller-Bentivegna
Easy to get to-right off the beltway, 295 and 193 with 2 playgrounds, walking trails through the woods, many picnic tables, open fields, and bathrooms.
Terry Goss (The Next Hundred Miles)
An oasis in the hustle and bustle of the DC suburbs. Close to absolutely everything, yet deep in a heavily treed area that makes you feel far away from the city. Sites are mostly smallish with some pull-throughs (really just pull outs used as sites). Decent bath houses with hot showers. We had OTA tv and 4 bars of Verizon with good data speeds. We would absolutely return.
Andrea Wu
Came on a weekday afternoon, not many cars in the parking lot, didn't see many people, went counter-clockwise on Perimeter Trail. Just walking through a lot of leaves, crossed a few bridges, not much scenery, pretty flat and not much incline.
Ray Wingo
Sunshiny day, great picnic area with 9.2 miles of wooded hiking trails... Lots of wildlife to sneak up on and then just enjoying the coolness if the woods in this area.... Worth the trip ...The main road and picnic area parking lots have been resurfaced. A date as smooth as silk...
Rita Sono Palmer
Trails aren't challenging for hiking, but great for walking dog and running. Especially during dog days of summer. Easily 10 degrees cooler inside park.
Roswell Mundwiler
I love this park. The perimeter is about 5.2 miles and great and peaceful hike/run.
They recently cleared all but one of the fell trees on the perimeter loop!
The trail is getting dangerous with the falling trees and limbs. Two close (and I mean reaaalllly close) calls with trees/limbs falling out of nowhere nearly killing me. Keep your head on a swivel after it rains!
Wade Duvall
Great little hike in near Goddard Space Flight Center! Don't expect stunning views but charming woodlands and creeks abound. Lots of wildlife activity as well depending on the conditions. Very easy and good for beginners, can probably get 8-10 miles without too much overlapping.
Becky Foreman
This park is near my home and my "go to" park when I want to get in a short or longer hike as there are several trail options and combinations. Trails are well maintained. Since this is a national park, entrance is free. There is also a nice campground here and would be excellent for those wanting to visit DC, have an RV or tent, and don't mind camping. Water and bath houses with hot showers available. It's even possible to walk to the Metro from the campground if you don't mind walking a mile or so on a forest path to get there.
Rena Correia
Drove thru the park to check out the camping spots. Very quiet with private sites. No services so you're boondocking here.... bring your own water!
Christopher Joyce
A National Treasure, 12 miles from the nation's Capital . We're practically the only one's here on the 22nd of November. 20 bucks a night, and you can run a generator from 6am until 10 pm. Deer stand there as you walk by. Just reopened 11/01/21 after 2 years closed. Brand new pits with a grill on them. Massive amounts of free firewood.
Joe P
Inexpensive for a night or two but nothing special for a camping trip. Good for a stop during travels buy sites where dirty and had broken glass on them and rest rooms not very clean. The nice thing is that it's close to D.C. so can leave camper and go check out the capital without having to worry about camper parking which is impossible in the city.
Marissa Msefya
Stayed for 2 night camping trip and for first timers we enjoyed ourselves. The restroom and shower facilities were in good shape and I appreciated the park staff checking on us periodically.
As stated previously by other reviewers-it is noisy due to planes, cars and nature however we would still return.
Darin Grewe
Totally worth it. We feel very safe and you can not beat the price for location close to a Metro to go to Washington DC. The best value!!!
Caecilia Key
I should have taken pictures! There's nothing like going to the park after work or on your lunch hour to relax with the trees.
Fitz
Great park, close to DC and subway line. Easy to find, campground is quiet
Ravi Bhatti
Great place for a walk or a jog. Also has a basketball court and a restroom. There are several places to have cookouts and plenty of room for the kids to run around. Very peaceful park/Lake. You can always see some people fishing. The path goes around the whole lake and I believe it's right around 1.30 miles give or take.
Caleb Soileau
I forgot to take a picture, but it's a great place to camp with family if visiting DC on a budget. There are some things to consider, the road noise is audible and if you are close to the restrooms you will see light through your tent. If you are car camping make sure to reserve a site on the internal camp spots to avoid high slopes.
Scott Schroth
This is a well kept park. Staff is always willing to help. There is a very nice fitness trail that has not yet been upkept from the winter months but has been well kept during summer months. Some parking areas have bathroom access. Campsites are non electric but do have a bath house to clean and get water.
Chris Powers
Once you turn into the entrance and drive a quarter mile in you start hearing birds instead of cars and smell trees instead of exhaust, then you immediately start to feel peaceful and calm. The campsites are wooded, the bathrooms have hot showers and all kept in cleanliness.
What a fantastic Urban Park! The Park Service did us a great big favor by putting this quiet park in the middle of such a busy area.
John Crotts
Beautiful! A long 6 mile peaceful walk. Lots of shade. No sun beating down.
Park is litter free.
Trails are sometimes rough and can be challenging.
Very helpful office staff and rangers. I should know, got lost and they came to my rescue. Even had a cold bottle of water for me.
Matthew Edwardsen
A true urban oasis. Campsite is ideal for first time campers. Very nice and easily accessed trails that are good for little people. Facilities are decent but could use an upgrade. Be mindful if you are on bikes as the roads have lots of potholes.
William Benedict
Nice tent camp sites. Booked on line. Easy check in. Plenty of dead fall wood for 2 nights of camping. Beautiful park. Bath houses need work. But the showers were warm!
Alexander Larsen
National Park Annual Pass gets you a campsite for 10 bucks. A steal especially for DC area, unbelievable when you consider the safety of being right next to police department plus hot showers... pretty awesome. Friendly rangers show up to check you in.. arrive with a reservation. No hook ups, there is a rv dump with water.
Alicia Shamblin
I loved how isolated and natural it is here. The paths are reasonable for a walk through the woods. There were fallen trees but the paths were cleared.
Hugh Stroupe
As far as camping, in a tent excellent. Public rest rooms spaced throughout the campgrounds along with water. Very few hookups for RVs. Also large RVs will have a hard time as the spaces are small these were laid out during the Depression so sites are generally small. Any rig much over 35 ft may find it difficult, our rig was 36 and it was tight. Some camp sites are just a pullover on the road.
b v
No swimming hole but the trails were awesome and my 9 year olds were able to keep up easily. The staff is awesome- Rangers and Camp Hosts. Loved our stay there and can't wait to go back
Matt Easley
Nice urban park with some fairly flat trails suitable for running. Really convenient location right next to the BW Parkway and the I-495 beltway. So if traffic is horrible and you need a place to stretch your legs, this is worth a short stop. (However highway noise is quite pronounced.). All roads in the park are closed until Spring of 2020, but all trails are open.
alexander owens
Nice clean plenty of room for the kids to run around small playground but huge field for kids to play in
Karina Nicole
Such a nice park. I love running the perimeter trail with my dog. However, a lot of other people tend to keep their dogs OFF the leash. So if your pup doesn't get along with other dogs, I'd be wary.
Harold Becht
Great location to camp with your RV close to D.C. We brought our 35' trailer and didn't have an issue. Stressful getting there on the city roads but once you are there, it is heaven. Beware, one shower for ladies/men per camping loop. The line gets long of you need to shower during popular times.
Duane Curby
Friendly staff, walking trails. No electricity but we were able to run our generator. Shower house could use a good cleaning. We were within a mile or two of a Metro Station. It was easy and economical to get to D.C.
Stacy Schmidt
Cheap camping close to Washington, D.C. A 30-minute walk or less to a metro station (5-10 minute drive). This campground does have a lot of ticks (very tiny ones that are easy to miss), so keep that in mind and consider bringing strong bug spray. The bathrooms were less clean than we would have liked (even when compared to other under-funded NPS campgrounds), but they were tolerable. They have free showers for campers, which is a huge plus. We stayed a week here in the middle of June, and it wasn't very busy at all, though we noticed there were more campers on Friday and Saturday nights (as you would expect). Overall, a good budget option if you want to visit Washington, D.C.

Free entrance. Free parking. Good for running, hiking, picnic, outing with kids/family, and camping. Longest trail is the perimeter trail (~5.3 mile loop) with other smaller trails around the park. There is a 1 mile road loop around the park that doesnt get much traffic (good for cycling/faster running). There is plenty of free parking by the picnic tables/playground. The trails are not wheelchair friendly unless you have a pretty sturdy device. Pets are allowed. Trails get low volume (from my experience) so not crowded at all. 99% of the trail is in the dense foliage of the forest, so its cool during hot sunny days. There are benches every ~mile to sit and rest if you want. The perimeter loop has rolling hills with about 100 ft of elevation gain per mile. The trail is mostly compacted dirt and leaves, but some portions have gravel, sand, and wood. For the picnic area, there are no reservations. You may claim up to 4 tables. There are bathrooms with running water and are actually not bad. There is an open feild by the picnic tables so dogs and kids can play and run around. The playground is a popular spot usually every evening. At the time im writing this review (10/12/19), most of the parks roads are closed for construction, so there is limited parking (20-30 cars) behind the front building on the left after pulling in to the park. I hope you found anything in my review useful to you!
Kate Hoelscher
This was a great place to camp in Maryland. Very cheap, but have to be okay without electricity. It is possible to walk to them to station, but after walking around DC all day,the walk back seems much longer!! Ride sharing services are readily available too, so that is an option. They might have trouble finding you in the park though.
Andy Serfass
Our dog doesn't do well around other dogs and this park is close to DC but quiet for being near the city. Lots of connected trails for a short walk/hike. And a stop at mission BBQ makes the day even better!!
Pallas Bane
Wonderful forest park hidden in the suburbs. The signage leaves something to be desired in places but this just encourages longer expeditions. Trails are well maintained hiking paths with some roots and rocks exposed so wear good shoes.
Andrea Schuweiler
Nice park! Really nice trails.
Carole Richard
Campground is quite good. I really like the fact that they keep a bunch of sites for walk-ins, the rest is bookable online. The staff is nice and regularly checks around. It felt safe. But be prepared to line up for the showers! There was only on shower in the loop, and it got cold! Better facilities would make this place a gem.
Kristina Anderson
Great place for a hike. Please read website. Lots of the park's roads are closed for renovations. You can park at park head quarters. Be careful of ticks and check yourself and dogs when you are finished.
Andrew Davidson
Visited off season, great value. Saw two deer! Warm and free showers, although bathrooms only mediocre overall...no soap and older. Noisy leaf clearing by a tractor/mega leaf blower one morning was unpleasant. The sites in the center of loop b are flatter for tenting, most of the ones around the edge drop off as the loop is at the top of a hill.
Kelsey Bryant Starr
I like this nearby park for hiking my dog (he loves to run in the creek). There's a lot of noise from nearby busy roads but parts of the trail feel away from things. Beware of summer ticks though! We usually only go here in the cold weather.
Trippy Pupz
Green indeed. Alone the name stands for itself . Greenbelt National Park is truly a sight and trail to behold as there are many to chose from and venture off into. So many beautiful gems and minerals reside right at your tip toes, the sun was shining when I arrived and there wasn’t any other hikers except two on that particular summer afternoon. Very easy trails and dog friendly. If you want to get away this park is the place to explore. Located 12 miles outside of DC you wouldn’t expect it to be quiet and serene but it is just that. Worth the drive as always to somewhere new and involving Mother Nature .
Brian McCants
Really enjoyed the ranger fireside talks.
Damon Bryant
Great trails that are not too busy even on the weekend. The woods are thick so bring some insect repellent or wear long sleeves and pants.
Jennifer Matheson
Beautiful spot near the city. For the right price too. Easy to book ahead or at the time.
Pat Kleespies
Decent campground with a lot of spaces. The fire ring at our site, while servicible, was in need of replacement as it was pretty deteriorated. Beyond that, the site was reasonably well maintained, water access was good, restrooms were in good condition.
David Joyeux
Less than one hour to archives station in the Center of Washington DC. 30 minutes walk to the College Park University and 30 minutes of subway. 20$ by night it's an amazing place. Tks to the camping host for all the informations they're providing to us.
We can use generator up to 10 pm.
There is a dump station and a potable water place.
We spent three really good nights.
We're able to see many mules deer during the walk in the forest.
The perfect place !!
Jade Dawson
Nice quiet park in the morning, but like with any park, be aware of ticks. I found 4 ticks on myself and 3 on my dog, plus a handful more on his blanket in the car. Be careful, tick repellent a must!

Amazing Experience one of the best hangout areas in the area. Has great food, actives, festivals are a must here. Green belt lake is great for walks and pets. Has a historical functional mono Plex movie theater for older black and white films. Also if your into Theater Arts, The green Belt Arts Theater is perfect for all ages.
Xavier Glorieux
Perfect place to camp near the city if you want to visit it
Bill Elliott
I was excited to find that there was a national park so close to my house. I wondered what made this plot of land so nice that it deserved national park status. I took the kids for a day of hiking on the perimeter trail that circumnavigates the park. After a few hours of hiking I still wonder why it got national Park status. Not really any beautiful views. There are more breathtaking places within a few minutes like the gorge on the Rachel Carson trail. The clincher for me though was that there are many little streams running through that lead to endless mosquitos everywhere you go.
Kerstin Harper
Great place for a quiet walk or jog on perimeter trail. This National Park has a year-round camp ranger station, ground, picnic areas, playground and an open grassy area for outdoor games.
Suzanne Joiner
Hidden gem great location. Close to DC and UMD with metro access. Pretty basic sites with electric only but the coat is reasonable and the bathrooms were great compared to other public parks. Free dumP and fresh water for campers was nice as well.
Marvin Gammon
Has some good trails to walk
Bob Flach
This campground is a hidden gem. Camping so near the nation's capital in a beautiful setting. Yes, we saw deer. Close by is the Metro to take one to the capital monuments. No hook-ups but dump station and water available.
Any House Cleaning Champions Gate, Fl 407-572-4118
Love it. I slept in rest area and come here to eat, enjoy picnic and take a shower. Great please
james scott sumter
Go to, nearby hike in the forest. I can get about 8 miles in hiking "Perimeter, Blueberry & Magnolia" trails; almost always see deer and many birds.
Johanna Guarino
Excellent part close to D.C. The only negative was the female stalls were in poor condition. None of the stalls had locks and some didn't even have a door. Overall, nice place for a quick overnight stay.
Marc-Anthony Branch
It's a pretty park, lots of camping spots, and large picnic areas.
Patrick Young
Campground was good. Clean facilities and decently sized lots. I would definitely recommend.
Laura Carollo
Check the website before heading over. The park is currently closed because of recent storm damage (July 2022)
Angela Ferelli Gruber
Just wooded enough so you can't hear all of the traffic around. Around 9 or 10 miles of trails which are well maintained for running or walking. Ample parking.
Lamont
A nice and quaint park. Nice place to go to get away from it all.
Noko Marie
Stayed Aug 3 through the 9th 2015 to visit DC and you cannot beat the price! Very close to transportation into DC but it is still a forty minute trip to actually get to the National Mall via the Metro. Also, as others have noted, walking to the nearest Metro stop and then walking all over DC and sites is pretty much out of the question. Shopping and restaurants very close by, though not exactly well supplied for what we needed [also watch Giant's meat and produce; as it wasn't very fresh and some produce actually rotted before we could use it] and yet this park is a woodland setting and teeming with deer. Mosquitoes a minor problem and we found one attached tick in a week. This included us venturing off of the trails into the woods. Wood for cooking fires needed to be gleaned from the surrounding woods as neither the ranger's station nor the local stores carry bundled wood. Try to stay in area D if you are tenting as the area is for large RVs and the clearings correspondingly larger. The bathrooms and showers are not great but not soul-numbingly horrible and the staff friendly. At no time did I or my daughters feel in any way unsafe as three lone women camping near the city. One encounter with a racoon who stole an entire package of cookies and apparently took it away to it's den as no trace was ever found. There is a constant but distant hum of traffic and the skies remain pink with sodium glare all night but, over all, do it; you won't be sorry.
Tim Schwuchow
Great trails with lots of encounters with wildlife
Frank Hatch
The most convenient campground to the Metropolitan DC area!!! Price is great! Think senior park pass! Easy access to the metro, seems way more remote than it is. Really enjoyed!!
edward leonard
The paths are ok, but this park is really underwhelming compared to some of the other area parks. Two of the roads were closed when I visited. And what's up the weirdo lurkers hanging out in their cars in parking lots in the middle of the day? There were 3 in just the lot I was in.
Lee Lemon
Great cheap camping near Washington DC. Short walk to bus that can get you to train into dc... No hookups, but park is very lightly visited so lots of quite room to enjoy nature.
Hennessi Vela
I went here with my little family and the dogs, they fell in love with it! The dogs drained their energy, ended up getting tired and rested once they got back home. They also have grill, park for kids and public bathroom for everyone.
Marilyn Martin
Very natural park. Camping spots small and cramped. When We visited few campers in our loop so cramping wasnt an issue for us. Lots of deer. We enjoyed. Couldn't believe it was so close to DC
Kathryn Farmer
Just came back from a two night scouting trip, camped in loop A. Facilities are fine, we had a large pack and did not feel over crowded. However, ticks we're a huge issue. Likely we just hit the prime season for them, but... We pulled 5 or 6 off my son, most very small (we think lone star ticks, nymphs), 2 off my husband and 1 off me. Yes, we used DEET bug spray. Made for a very creepy crawly experience.
Kai McCoy
Despite no electric hookups, the park is quiet with helpful and friendly rangers and volunteer rangers. Have been able to use Uber to/from the campsite. It's superb!
Chris Jablonski
I have lived in the DC metro area most of my life and somehow this beautiful gem escaped my attention. It is a great place to camp or to spend time hiking. They can even accommodate a 40 ft. RV.
Tom Yee
A great place to stop and have a picnic. The campgrounds were closed for maintenance when we were there. There is lots of wildlife wandering around. Nice hiking trails too.
JayJay Ghatt
We love this park to run and play in and enjoy the lake wild life. Pretty safe bc there are always people on the trails but not all times of the day so go with a partner
Uma Pipat
$16 a night for rv camp site. No electric or water hookups but there is a dump site. There are bathrooms with hot shower. Nice and quiet, lots of trees and fresh air. Very dark at night. We didn't wandered off path, so no tick got to us. Saw a few deers. It's the closest park to dc but we still have to drive about 10 mins to the metro station.
Tiffany Lewis
Love the park as a local hiking spot. Great variety of plants and lots of animals to run across. The trails are well maintained.
Michael Klein
Great park with lots of nice trails to go on. Just be careful during tick season this place gets pretty deep with them. Just bring your spray and you will be ok.
Rosy Robles
BEWARE TICKS! we found over 20 ticks on my dogs arm and found a couple on us Not sure if its just the summer months. Sucks because the trail is beautiful
Tamara Johnson
Stayed here 9 days to explore DC. Beautiful campground but poor upkeep. I am pleased to say that when I emailed a complaint about the dirty bathroom /showers it was quickly taken care of! So nice to escape the DC madness in the peaceful surroundings. Beware of the ticks, our dog was very kind in sharing his with us every day after his walks! They did not like his trifexis so they transferred to us! Ugh. The greenbelt Metro was intimidating for us 1st timers but the staff & locals were very helpful & we loved the convenience! After 1 trip we felt like pros!
Samantha Allen
Thank goodness for such a fair price to camp in such a sweet location- thanks! Everything was clean & perfect
Ben Barker
Excellent park, and free. The ticks can be bad when in season. Just a side effect of so many deer I guess. Totally manageable with precaution. Use common sense and check yourself and your pets.
Jessica Knapp
As they say, the ticks are an issue!
Pretty pretty area and a great location to be near DC.
Ms. Deborah was incredibly rude in the park office because I needed a cable shipped to me at the park. So far (2 weeks into a 3 month trip) that has not been an issue again (only needed one more shipped item since at a park in VA). But beyond it being an issue, she was blatantly rude to me, stating, "don't let it happen again." As if I planned to lose a necessary cable!
In any case, beyond the lack of staff, the rude staff and the ticks, I would say if you want to camp in a pretty place near DC, this place is ok.
Greg Kopish
A little run down and in need of a little TLC. The hiking trails are good, with the chance to see some wild life and tracking down some geocaches. A ten minute drive takes you to a Metro station to get to downtown Washington.
Jordan Patterson
Well maintained trails,. Surprisingly quiet despite its proximity to Major roads, friendly and helpful staff. No amazing views but if you're looking for a quiet walk in the woods this is the place
Michelle Diaz Ortega
I love this sanctuary within a city! We saw over 20 deer and a fox the other day! I feel like I've stepped into another world when I'm here! Camping is great here too!
Chelsey Snyder-Singh
I like this area a lot. Nice city park, long trails and short trails. There's a bit of highway noise at some spots, but not much. And there's easy parking.
Debbie Thiercof
Nice, basic campground in the forest. Very inexpensive, and only 12 miles north of DC. There were deer just a few yards from our campsite.
B D
Within 30 seconds of driving in we saw deer. Nice isolated pocket of calm surrounded by major streets on all sides. Barely hear traffic during rush hour.
ABros23
Very nice park with water hookups, and public showers. Heard gunshots one morning, still have not found out where it came from. Affordable and overall a good environment that is close to D.C.
Jason Nicholson
Good clean area and trails were maintained well.
Steve Markos (National Park Planner)
I am a writer and photographer for National Park Planner and I visited Greenbelt Park in September 2016. Greenbelt Park is an outdoor recreation area that offers camping, picnicking, and hiking just outside of Washington D. C. on the northeast side of the Beltway. This is the closest campground to Washington, and it is only 30 miles from downtown Baltimore. The park is served by the Greenbelt Metro Station (Green Line), a mere two miles away. If you are visiting Washington and enjoy camping or want to save money, one night at Greenbelt is a fraction of the cost of a downtown hotel.
Tent campers and RVs are welcome at the campground. I have stayed at Greenbelt three times, each time as a base for visiting Washington. In fact, just about everyone camping is a tourist visiting Washington. The campground is not a destination for locals, other than Scouts and youth groups, because there is no lake for fishing and swimming. It takes about ten minutes to get to the Greenbelt Metro Station and 45 minutes for the ride to downtown.
For more photos and complete information about visiting Greenbelt Park, visit National Park Planner (npplan).

+Interesting to be camping in the middle of the city. The visual surroundings are beautiful, no visible sign that you're in anyplace but a rustic, rural campground, lots of deer, birds of all kinds, especially if in rear loop. Tree frogs, katydids, and cicadas very loud at night.
--You hear city sounds along with bird calls. Lots of air traffic, helicopters especially, police sirens at nightthe surrounding residential areas are not the greatest in terms of crime. There is a continuous dull roar from the Beltway. Bring insect repellant with deet and check yourself for ticks. I've discovered one on my person in 10 years, but my sister can walk in the same places and find a dozen!
+Have been coming here for a week in summer for 10 years. Cheapest place to stay in DC! Never had any problem with security, ie., weird people, theft, etc, but do lock your things up if leaving for the day.
Great if you can rough it. If amenities are wanted, try the KOA. Restrooms have flushing toilets, two have warm showers, not particularly clean, but usable.
Roberta Wright
Especially want to commend Jeanne and her staff for the breakfast is Willy K's. Jeanne is very knowledgeable and personable. And she maintains excellent quality control over food and staff. She knows her stuff!!!
Collin S
Great open field for frisbee or just getting some fresh air. Good hiking trails in the woods. You feel really out in nature even though you're pretty close to a busting suburb
whathe chuck
I shouldn't brag because I don't want to ruin it. But a real hidden treasure I even ate blueberries on the blueberry trail. Growing wild. Friendly staff. Safe environment and clean shower house
Ryan Barba
If you want to visit DC but don't want to pay hotel prices, you can't beat Greenbelt. $20 a night. Hot showers. Minutes from the metro or a half hour drive downtown. Lots of wildlife.
Monica Osborn
Just fabulous that we could stay in such a wooded and lively campground so close to all the wonderful sites in D.C. Bathrooms with hot showers and electricity were also most welcome!
C Bell
Nice trail. Tons of ticks. Found 8 ticks on me after about 5-6 miles of hiking, and this was while using tick repellent.
Alex Nunez
A very nice and very clean place to enjoy with family
Mitchell Longus
This Park Is Prefect To Have Birthday Parties, Cookouts, Picnics, Club Meetings Or Other Gatherings With A Lot Of People And At Least There's Some Restrooms In Park Because Some Parks Don't Have Restrooms But This One Does.
Ciera James
Excellent spot for walking or jogging. The lake is huge and the residents are super friendly. Bring a grill for a family get together or whatever 😊 …
Christopher Martin
Great space, clean public bathrooms, lots of tree cover to prevent overheating.
David Stewart
A fantastic city park with plenty of shady spots and open fields for playing in. Not super exciting hiking trails, but it's a good place to wander in the woods for a few hours.
Denise Barlock
Was able to get our 43' RV into the park, but we originally went to the wrong entrance which was challenging to turn around. Campground needs to be much better marked.
Joshua Herald
Great campsite within minutes of the metro to downtown DC. No firewood. Visit "lone cedar farm" 10 mins away $20 for a shopping cart of dry seasoned oak.
Ed Keane
You go for a hike and you have no idea you are inside the Beltway. Just a beautiful, relaxing place to visit. During summer though, bring insect repellant.
Jimmie Ryan
Great hiking trails and a well maintained campground. There is a normal pass by from park police that gives you a added feeling of safety.
Brother_grinch (Jamey)
Its nice if you want to go into the city of dc the metro is like 12 min walk away and i saw deer every day i was there so its cool if you dont normaly see them
Lisa Stewart
That's a lot of open space a lot of green trees and fresh are my grandchildren loved it and we seen a lot of wildlife to looking at the beavers and raccoons and different types of birds
stephanie young
This park is great! We take our dog here all the time and walk their perimeter trail. It's a little over 5 miles.
Mike McDonald
Beautiful place self checking and service, could use maybe a bit more oversight but if you're okay with that it's for some really nice camp spots and it's a short drive for many
Hannah A
Great place for some outdoor adventures. Had a park, bathrooms and picnic tables for those looking for those accommodations. Must have a car to access it.
Len King
Modest w few recreational facilities. Basic Woodlands & couple of hiking /mountain bike trails. Best function is as an urban `lung`.
Don Williams
I can't believe I've been living in DC ALL these years past this park and never DISCOVERED ITS true beauty. A nice peaceful safe place to camp I WILL RETURN.
blurb_schmurb

Sean Bogan
The campground was well maintained and the camp host was friendly and very helpful.
Josiah Jaddock
The park was ok. The restrooms were dirty but the price was great. A bus tour pulled in beside us and they were a little rowdy but overall it was a great stay!
Kelly T
Nice to get out under the trees. This is one of my husband's favorite spot in the DMV.
Peter K
Its a wonderful place that's in the middle of a city! But be responsible, If you can't be responsible, Federal park police is there to remind you. Thank you to law enforcement.
Stacey Murphy
We loved camping here! It feels like the middle of nowhere right in the middle of everything. We were happy to see a park policeman there.
Marco Castillo
Is a nice place but there was glass from broken bottles in the picnic areas and we found ticks on our socks so be careful when taking the kids there other than that a nice place to have fun
Lauren Ragle
I absolutely loved camping here! The rangers were friendly and the bathrooms were well-maintained. I'm definitely going to visit again!

Great location, a forest within the city, Greenbelt train station is nearby to take you into DC, clean park, just wish it had electric hook-ups.

Joey Methé
Great trails, beautiful nature
Melody Church
Beautiful place to visit alot of camping grounds wild life and walking trails!!!!! Places to grill and have a picnic... we had a lot of fun
Liz Mackall
Beautiful park but ticks are a huge problem. We had a lovely campsite with reservations for several nights but we only stayed one night because the ticks were so bad. We took thorough precautions to avoid the ticks including spraying ourselves and our entire campsite, wearing shoes and socks whenever we left our rv and never once venturing into the surrounding area. Nevertheless both my husband and I found several ticks on ourselves within hours of arriving. These were tiny deer ticks which are very hard to spot until they bite. My husband unfortunately missed 2 of the ticks that landed on him. They got very inflamed and swollen and he ended up needing to go to urgent care to get antibiotics and a blood panel done for tick borne diseases. Such a shame. We have spent the last 2 years camped in federal forests and parks all over the country and this is the first time we have had any problems with ticks.
Tommy Beatty
The park is located convenient to DC as well as the Metro. Clean, well managed and will fit anyone's budget. Facilities were convenient except for the dumpstation.
Sarah
Take my dogs walking here. There is a nice five Mile loop or shorter trails. Usually pretty quiet, for now!
David Moore

The only reason not a 5star is the Restrooms. They are NEVER cleaned! Scary gross between the poopy toilets, no paper and scary bugs.
Kenneth Bentivegna
It's a small National Park with an ok playground, and several picnic areas, as well as three of the typical camping loops.
