Reviews of Little Manatee River State Park
Absolutely beautiful! From the amazing customer service, staff, cleanliness of the whole park including bathrooms campsites, picnic areas, parks and trails. Thanks to all of you because it was a vacation well needed and you made it perfect not only for me but my whole family great job teamwork definitely felt! Just a friendly reminder I did learn that you cannot hang a hammock in the tree because that's hindering the preservation of the trees but you are more than welcome to bring hammock poles or make your own! We will be back!
We spent a long weekend camping at the park. This was our first visit. The park is very nice, has water and electric hookups, and very new, and clean facilities. This afternoon we took a 5 mi walk through the trails up to the river. This is a very scenic park with lots of nature and tons of trails. It was a short trip for us, and I'm sure we'll be back.
Great place to hit the trails! Be aware that there is a MAIN ENTRANCE and a "North of the river" trail entry. I suggest to go to the main entrance first, even if you are planning to hit the trails north of the river. It makes it easier to pay and obtain a map. BOTH are worth a visit either or way. Personally I will have to return to cover the remainder of the park. Was only able to complete about 8 miles on the trails. Definitely recommend visiting this Florida state park, whether you want to drive, kayak or hit the trails. If you are planning on the latter, I suggest hiking shoes vice sneakers, plenty H2O and bug spray!!! Use the facilities while in the main part of the park, I did not see any "north of the river". ENJOY.
A beautiful place that is peaceful and serine. Well taken care of. Plenty of scenic trails. Some trails are more rustic then others on purpose. A must for those that are more adventurous. Kayaking, canoeing, and equestrian access. Great views and photography opportunities. Very dog friendly. The rangers at the gate give my dog a treat almost every time. The people that take care and maintain the park are wonderful.
This park had the nicest canoe/kayak docking launch that we have ever seen at a park. The Oxbow trail was a easy and short hiking trail along the river. Had several pavilions and picnic areas as well as a nice sandy beach area to dock your canoe/kayak. Had a great time and we will definitely go back!
Entrance fee: $5 entrance fee
Basic Needs: plenty of bathrooms, I only saw two water fountains and they do not serve food here
Well Maintained: Yes
How busy: Not at all, very little people seen on trails
Quietness: Very little/no car noises can be heard, some loud kayakers but thats about it.
Unique: Horseback Riding, rentable bikes and kayaks
Trail/Park size: Trails were pretty narrow, with semi distinct signs telling you where you are. Very confusing leaving a trail and ending up on the road however. The park was very big
Seating: Plenty of pavilions and benchs
Allowed: They allow fishing, dogs, and biking. They dont allow horseback riding or motorcross on the trails however.
Bugs: A lot of bugs were at this park, very much recommend bug spray
Amenities: Kayak launch and Playgrounds are present
Overall opinion: Very fun, kind of lackluster trails but some cool views, would still very much recommend.
Beautiful place to go hiking! There are multiple trials that you can do. Wonderful place to spot wildlife as you can see in my pictures! There are plenty of picnic tables to sit and eat when you want a break from the hiking. There are also multiple places to go to the restroom and get some water drink. You can get a map at the entrance so you don't get lost whole hiking. The entrance is 2 dollar for every person and 5 dollar for a car full of people (max. 8 people).
Peaceful park with an old Florida feeling. Just the right size to spend a few hours walking, bird watching, kayaking or just sitting. Plenty of picnic areas, some a fewinutes walk from parking.
Nice park, Chris is a great host. We were evacuated due to hurricane 🌀 Ian. Only stayed 2 of our 11 day scheduled time. Bathrooms 🚽 are super clean and shower 🚿 was nice. So many lizards 🦎 and frogs 🐸 squirrels 🐿, tortoise 🐢 and deer 🦌 …
Great little park with hiking trails, canoeing & kayaking. Small campground with 30 sites but well maintained and quiet.
Wonderful little campground with power and water for rv or tent camping. Trails are in decent shape considering the hurricane damage. Updated facilities with lots of hot water for showers.
Camped 3 nights. Site 15 was nice & private, only see back of neighbor. There's a nice metal kayak launch at the trailhead instead of walking in sand a long way to the marked canoe launch. I don't know why they don't have signs directing visitors to that launch? You can drive up, unload kayaks, & park at trailhead parking lot.
Great park. Only saw a small portion of it. Bathrooms were clean. It was not busy for a Saturday. Will come back.
Love to camp at this park! We prefer a slower paced, smaller, more natural setting when we camp. Little Manatee has all that. There are ample woods between sites. The playground and canoe launches, while within walking distance, are distant enough to not disturb the camping area. The bathrooms are clean and always seem to be available for showers. We love to take the walking trails and find native plants in bloom or with fruit in different seasons. Come once a month for a whole year, pay attention to the little stuff and see something different every time. Sun City and Riverview are nearby for good restaurants and shopping. We will keep coming back!
Beautiful park to walk the dog. The trails are sandy in some areas, but it’s not too deep.
Great place to go to get away from all the hustle and bustle of city life. Nice camp sites, facilities are very clean, lots of trails to walk. Already booked again!!!!!
Nice paths that wind around the creek(river). Love this place
A great quiet nature getaway for camping, canoeing and walking/ bike riding walks.
Visited this park after Fort Desoto at end of June. The campground is small, with 30 spots (there are additional equestrian camping spots, some of which were nicer than the normal ones). The park is okay, it is basically sandhill pines with some oak trees. The river is accessible from the picnic area, but it is a very small area to put kayaks in, with basically no view. There is a primative camping area for scouts, and a amphitheater that looks disused and run down (the movie screen has graffiti all over it). There are NO stores nearby, meaning closer than 5 miles, so make sure you bring everything you need. There were deer and rabbits and gopher turtles that you could see each day, and I walked most of the trails. (there is a trail that circles outside of the campground you can use to walk your dog). We stayed on spot 5, an ADA spot, which we reserved due to no other sites available. The bathroom was spotless, and showers nice and clean. The elderly volunteer taking care of them did an exceptional job, and cleaned them from what I saw at least 3 times a day. Kudo's to him and I hope this park appreciates him. There are two major things that happened that will cause me not to return. The first, on the second to last night, the power went out in the park. I assumed the rangers would have reported it, but when I called them about 45 mins into it the ranger I talked to didn't seem to know. Also, when a different ranger called me back, he said "please let others in the campground know it will be 3 hours before power is on". I'm not sure why, if it was such a long time down, that they couldn't have texted each person and let them know. That was minor compared to second issue. While checking out, I went to dump my grey/black tanks and the dump station had filled up and overflowed into the pad that you hook your black tank hose to. When I tried to dump at the other spot, it overflowed back into the containment and I had to stop. Thats when I noticed over 3 inches of biohazard waste overflowed into the other spot in a pool 4 feet by 4 feet. I flagged the host down and he called the rangers. When I checked out I asked when they were going to respond, and the gate person said "They are doing something else and it will be a couple of hours". In the age of Covid, and Florida being very critical that you don't dump even grey water on their campgrounds, to allow gallons and gallons of human waste spilled right next to the equestrian campsites in plain view is ridiculous. Not returning.
Enjoyed it so much!! kayaking there was awesome! The park rangers even helped up as to which way to go so we could have an easy ride. We had such a great time we’ve been back several times just to kayak peacefully without many people disturbing the quiet nature.
Beautiful, a little wet this time of year, but enjoyed the hike.
Stayed here in the campground. They have a spot where you can easily drop in your kayak/canoe. We paddled and saw a turtle, no alligators (it may have been too cold?). We also went on numerous hikes; they have tons of flat trails. The campground was nuce and quiet.
The most relaxing, fun day I've ever had kayaking. What a hidden treasure! We spent about four hours on the river (including a stop to have lunch at one of the pavilions about halfway). It's a great place for the kayakers of any skill level (I'm not a beginner, but my girlfriend is, and she LOVED IT!). We got to see manatees up close because they swam right up to our group and hung out with us til we moved on. They are such beautiful creatures!
You'll never have a better time than a lazy day in your canoe or kayak drifting down the Little Manatee River.
Beautiful hiking trails along the river. Boardwalks could use some repair and you may get a little muddy, but it's worth it on this scenic trail. I prefer the trail outside the main park. It's a stacked loop with the inner loop being 3 miles and the outer is 6 miles.
Met some friends for an afternoon visit, hike, fire, and s'mores...they were passing through from the Keys. Nice trails along a small waterway.
We saw a family of deer when we first entered the park. Very nice and calm place to relax and enjoy the wildlife with friends.
We came to hike the 6.5 mile loop Friday and it was so nice that we came back to hike it again the next day! The trail has enough diversity in terrain and vegetation to keep it interesting for my 8-year-old twins and older teens.
Several areas required us to scrabble over and under downed trees but the park maintenance crew was present Friday with chainsaws, clearing what was obviously a lot of damage from the hurricane. Also, we did opt to do the whole trail, people wanting to avoid the trees could just take the cross trail.
A few places were muddy and required some balancing to stay on logs/planks but we managed it the first day and brought our trekking poles for the second day. We're a noisy group, lol, so the wildlife heard us coming, but my son briefly shared the trail with an armadillo when he went ahead of us.
My only real criticism of the park would be that the gravel entrance clearance at the trailhead right off of the highway is dangerous for small cars. A truck or higher clearance vehicle will be fine but I was concerned in our Honda Civic. I think the section that joins the highway should be paved for such a sharp turn on and off a 60mph highway.
Otherwise, the trail was lovely and the park staff we encountered were very friendly! We would visit again!
Private park. Needs care and some improvements. the trails need a lot of maintenance and broken boards fixed. looks like they need help forming a volunteer group to help care for the park.
The campground in bathrooms are very nice.
It's a long walk to the kayak launch which makes it inconvenient.
There's no real swimming area for the river besides jumping in at the kayak launch.
This park has so much potential!
It was a fun trip down the river with Canoe Outpost and definitely worth the fee for the one-way trip and free shuttle back with our own kayaks.
Just opened up a bit ago due to COVID. Visited some family in the campgrounds and its really nice! The bathrooms are fantastic. The campgrounds looked kept up and clean. The playground in the park is still closed and the trails are overgrown but some still usable. There is a man who does horseback riding with reservation...2.5 hrs=$70, but he was already all booked up. I saw deer and other small furry animals. A scorpion did crawl into my families screen tent the first night but hasn't been seen since. I loved how isolated the whole park felt, the people were all really nice and there seems like a lot of hidden treasures to see if you get out and look. Definitely can't wait to go back!
The park is wonderful. Showers and bathrooms are really clean and they also have washers and dryers. Trails can be muddy at times but with the right shoes, they are fine.
I enjoy hiking here year 'round. It's constantly changing with the seasons, water levels. The trail north of the river is very nice.
Insect repellent recommended much of the year.
This was a very nice local camping spot. Even during Covid restrictions it was nice to visit. The hiking trails were well laid and shady. We saw a deer and her fawn as well as snakes and turtles. The river for kayaking looked beautiful although we did not try it this trip. There were shelters that would work well for a picnic and would hold a large party. We had a very nice trip with our three young children ages six and twins that are four. The campsite itself is well laid out and gave us plenty of room to play without being on top of each other or near the fire. Although it had rained the sites were dry and un-flooded.
Amazing park with an awesome intermediate level swamp trail . Make sure you bring good hiking shoes and if it has rained recently it definitely will be muddy unfortunately due to hurricane Ian the entire North part of the trail is closed due to hundreds of downed trees but they have not been able to clean up as of yet
Had a great time here, the camp site was very clean and had bushes all around to give some level of privacy!! Bathrooms / showers were clean and well stocked!
Nice park to go hiking. Walked the park itself for little under 3 miles. The paths were wide and sandy, but nice. Passed through the camp grounds, and liked how nice the spots were. After walking the park. We drive north to the other trail outside of the park. It was also nice. It was a little hot, and the trees offered some shade. The paths were a but muddy from a previous rain storm. Only walked a little over 3 miles on this trail. Must have missed the first loop that was 3 miles, so we just turned around. Definitely a place to walk if you like walking in the outdoors!
They have a nice Play ground for the kids and a walk way on a wooden bridge and concession stand and the beautiful springs to swim in got to see the first Manatee that was at the River site that was awesome 👍. …
Parked at the north entrance off 301 at the North Trailhead. It was $5 the park her car. There was no restrooms available at the trailhead. As you start to hike you will come upon a 6.2 mile Loop that is linked to the Florida Trail. It is a yellow blazes. It is totally worth the hike of the entire 6.2 miles. There are Hills, valleys, Bridges, rivers and streams. There was much more to the park than what I seen in one trip. There are a few campsites, 2 primitive off the 6-mile loop and another in the park itself. this was one of the best hikes I have done in the area. Well worth it. And will be back.
A plus, private camping areas versus wide open spots next to other campers. Great river for beginning to intermediate kayaking.
The great thing about kayaking this river is that you don't normally run into spots completely blocked with debris. With that said, it is an excellent river to kayak for beginners.
You can go up river several miles or go down river several miles. However, if there was a recent rainfall, especially a heavy one, I would not recommend kayaking for beginners - the river can move really quick. It is fun however you need to be very cautious.
Super fun and diverse jungle hike! $5 per car, $2 per person/ bicycle donation - deposit box is right at the gate and you need to put the ticket on your rear view mirror or keep on your person if you are on foot or bicycle. Great exercise and photo opps guaranteed!
Very great place. All green and the restrooms are well maintained and clean. Highly recommend for camping.
Small quiet campground. Bathrooms were under construction and the temporary bathroom was out of order on and off but we have a full bathroom in our RV so that didn't affect us. Lots of trails and the river was great for canoeing. Best part is there are no noseeums!
This gem took me by surprise. Easy parking then straight in the woods. Love all the bridges. Hiking the trails, bordered by green swamp on both sides, was exciting. No gators or water moccasins snuck up on me. Really well marked with yellow blazes.
Very clean, quiet, and well maintained. Cleanest campground bathroom/showers I've ever seen. Many options for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and canoe/kayaking.
Went on a trail ride with my horse. Park is well taken care off, beautiful scenery, well preserved trails seen some nice wildlife.
We just arrived here Friday which was yesterday but it's a beautiful Park so much amenities would definitely recommend this place for campers and RVs
Great small park with great hiking trails
Beautiful trail for hiking , needs some up keep and maybe some seating or restrooms on the trail but over all very nice trail to explore.
This is a really great place to take your family.. lots of trails and things to do. They have two different docks to unload your canoe or riverboat on. The price is reasonable. the reason I gave it 4 stars is cause the pavilion we went to did not have working fans. It was hot that day and the fans would have been nice. Atlest it was screened in so no big issues. I recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors!!
Large park with lots of trails along the Little Manatee River. High likelihood of spotting wild Manatees grazing on shoreline shrubs.
You've got a choice between shell trails or a more natural and adventurous path that's slightly overgrown, bringing you closer to nature than many parks. The entrance is over a bridge near one of the covered picnic areas.
Not much to do when compared with other State Parks south of the area. Spent a couple of hours there and took a few photos.
Nice park, just heads up, primitive camping is not inside the park gate...It is outside the park gate, down the street. The trailhead to primitive site is located right off the road where anyone could walk back there. Beautiful trails.
It is a great local park for walking and/or hiking. Very clean and plenty of parking space.
Smaller campground than most but always see alot of wildlife at this state park, this was the biggest gopher tortoise we have seen while camping at state parks, it hung out and ate grass for over an hour at campsite, love this park and will return!
Great spot. We have been to about a dozen state parks and this one is top 3. Relaxing is the best word for this. 15 minutes from walmart, great cell reception, beautiful scenery recommend kayaking and fishing. Lots of horse trails also bring golf cart if you have one. Big spots nothing tight and relatively small park for amount of campers. Some single tracks and light mountain biking. Also great for road biking or gravel biking. Great spot!
Motorcycle camping trip. 2 night primitive, 3 mile hike in. Beautiful scenery, well marked easy to follow trails, abundance of wildlife.
Nice quiet campground. We enjoy the nature trails. The staff are pleasant. We camp here several times a year.
We only canoed past the state park. The river was really nice and calm. It was a good trip. Nervous at times when we saw alligators. We did not see any manatees.
I haven't been here in many years I was actually quite surprised cute little nice park they even have a little playground a little swimming area bathrooms trails everywhere very peaceful
Love the state park. Nice walking trails, campground, covered pavilions, restrooms and river very accessible .
Best campground I’ve been to ever !
Beautiful scenery and plenty of trails. Makes for beautiful pictures and so peaceful. I would definitely recommend to anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.
Rated as an easy trail.. But that doesn't mean wide and flat... There are tree roots to watch for.. sandy areas and spots where you have to step up or around things. Also, there are some areas where you could step off the trail to check out the sights. This is a really nice trail with several eco systems along the route. We went to the left and at about 1.6 miles there is a switchback trail that will effectively cut the walk in half (just in case the 6.5 miles is more than you want to do)
At first you don't see the river much.. It's more of a rumor, but eventually things open up. We didn't see much wildlife this time (birds and an armadillo) but the route was scenic and enjoyable. We did the hike at the end of January and didn't notice much in the way of bugs.
Nice little park with several easy trails .We went horseback riding here so this review is just about the equestrian aspect of the park. The parking was easy and convenient for a truck pulling a horse trailer, there is water and tie downs for the horses, and hoses to rinse off after the ride. The trails are not very well marked but the park is small so getting lost is not a problem. We were continuously ending up on service roads and firebreaks because of the lack of markers. Some of the trails are nice and shady but some have no coverage at all- so make sure to drink , bring sunscreen or wear a sunshirt . Overall it is a great park and I would like to come back to ride here again.
Make sure to call ahead parts of the trail are sometimes closed off secondary to flooding. Trails are sand which I prefer and more than 75% of the hike off of highway 301 is shaded by tree canopy. Trails are clearly marked and numbered. Great spot to experience nature and take a stroll.
Great park for camping and other activities. For hiking, there's a fairly short trail south of the river. North of the river, is the best trail to hike. It's over 6 miles, and not for the faint of heart. Luckily it's completely through the woods, over streams and tropical vegetation, as well as pine-type forest. One of the best long hikes I've been on in Tampa.
Another beautiful state park. The river is really clear and beautiful. There’s a lake-Dude Lake. Really nice campground and trails. Playground for little ones and lots of picnic tables and grills.
A nice park with plenty of trails to hike or ride horses, including ,15 miles of horseback riding trails, and great for geocaching.
Enjoyed a bon fire with Smores, live music, toured a haunted trail & house, had a bite to eat & drink and took a trolley ride around the park camping grounds. Over all had a great time.
When it doesn’t rain this is an awesome place to walk- if you are in the main path it is super sunny so prepare for that. Will definitely come back!
A nice area close to Wimauma and Sun City for a hike. Wear good shoes as there are a lot of tree roots you can trip over and slick spots. Also there are maps available as you enter the trail.
Was our first time here and it was gorgeous 😍 💕
Saw a small gator. Several turtles, a blur heron, and a manatee!! Absolutely beautiful …
Decent trails. No complaints. Showers were temporary or portable. Looks like the original shower was getting remodeled possibly.
Great hiking on north yellow trail but was completely flooded from marker 7 to 6. Most of trail is good hiking on a somewhat obstacle-free path but there are several rotted boardwalks that could be hazardous to some and lots of fallen trees. Again, beautiful area but wish we could have done the whole north trail loop.
The only real part of this park we have used is the hiking trail. The 6.2 mile loop is one of the best spots around to go hiking. Lots of wildlife to see.
This is a good park. Trails are clear. Plenty of facilities.
Beautiful and serene. The map does not list all the trails is my only down side.
One of my favorite places to hike in Florida so far. Different climates. Bring bug spray! Tons of miles of trails.
Still lots of trees down from the hurricane. Made hiking a challenge. Nice place though.
Great little park. Nice campground and bath house.
I will agree with other commenters that there should be better trail markings. There are tons of trail splits and it's impossible to know whether or not you are staying on your desired route. That's probably the most frustrating thing. Other than that it was very quiet when I came with hardly any other people. The trails are partially shaded which makes it enjoyable. I saw a turtle which was a fun surprise. It cost me $4 to enter alone via car. Leashed dogs are allowed to walk on the trails.
Amazing place and great camp sites
Nice and easy hikes with offshoots to do. Lots of opportunities to see the river and wild life. Great spot for birding. Will be back.
Great park to explore, walk, and get lost in nature. I suggest you plan at least half a day to walk and explore the many trails through the jungle.
Quiet clean was relaxing, oh and saw a dear on our way out of the park
Little manatee River State Park is an awesome place to stay at there's hiking trails horseback riding plenty of wildlife I've been there three times and I like it would recommend nice place for family gathering clean bathrooms laundry machines very reasonable price thank you I will be back
Beautiful place but the park service employee at the entrance was an angry Bird. If you want to Kayak, as you enter the park, take your first right and there are only 4 steps to the water. The designated place to put into the creek is 1000 feet to carry your Kayak. It is clear they want you to rent instead of using your own Kayak. Florida has over $1 Billion budget to promote the state. But the dont fire the idiots who wont give up their jobs. I had the same experience at Myakka river, and the Prarie Preserve near Gainesville. Mean old bags is what they were.
We love this park. It has plenty of shade from the trees to keep cool. It's the best in the Fall.
It's ok. Small camping lots and some trails aren't maintained. Lots of trees down.
Very primitive and beautiful. Small parking area, boat launch, picnic table.
11/22. I haven't been lately, but the Park Rangers do a fantastic job keeping the park free of trash. The picnic area is clean, the restrooms clean. The playground is in good repair and safe. I have not seen a dog, but won't say they aren't allowed. I'm there at
odd hours when there aren't many people.
I will ask at the Ranger Station.
Still recovering from Hurricane Ian damage, but a great little Park with a staff that is doing an excellent job of upkeep.
We camped here before, like 4 years ago and we really liked it. So we are going back in January 2023
It's not to far from the skyway bridge where we like to go fishing
Awesome trails! Just watch your head on some tree branches.
Nice hike I started my map in parking area and followed yellow marker for 6.6 mile and when I was done it said 7. 75 miles
Camping was nice. Restrooms were very clean and updated. Camp sites were very well kept and the ground was soft for tent camping. However, only 4 stars because the hiking was boring and there was nothing to do outside the camping site. All in all, will be returning next camping season.
Had a great time kayaking down the Little Manatee River. Saw lots of turtles, birds, and even one 5 foot alligator!
Awesome trails! Didn't see much wildlife but could tell it is an active location. Excited to go back and try some of the other trails. Bring big spray and lots of water!
A fun place to hike or picnic. There is also good canoeing on there Little Manatee River. I'm not an equestrian but it also is a nice place for horse riding.
LMRSP is a beautiful place to bike ride, canoe, or go horse back riding! We love it there! There is also so much wonderful wild life 😍 …
Excellent, Peaceful canoe ride for the family. While we did not see much wildlife, the calm waters were a great sight.
Small state park. Pretty quiet except for the racetrack close by. Went camping over the labor day weekend and relaxed.
Mostly quiet and fairly maintained park
Love to ride my horse here. Beautiful park full of different scenic views and miles of trails. Obstacles set up to practice on too.
Loved it! Saw lots of tortoises. Nice little quite playground. The pavilion is screened in.
Nice look out at the bay
Nice for a family gathering
Nicer then it use to be
I give a four star
Great place to see nature and relax. Went kayaking for 7 hrs. Great team of ppl who work there.
I had a lot of fun here I have been here in the past to do canoeing and other activities. But the funnest thing I have done so far was to go horseback riding with my wife and children.
Beautiful, clean river and state park. Also great 6.5 mile hike on the North shore of the park!
Primitive campsite is nice. Not as isolated as I would like but was nice. No water available near campsite so pack accordingly.
I was an Equestrian camper ..Don't understand when their are open sites ...Why would the Park let regular campers ie Tent/ Trailer campers in the area? Sorta a hazard with kids running around kicking a ball when we're tacking up horses
Danger danger. Just saying
Other than that Awesome place
Great hiking spot, a little muddy but can’t complain. Not a lot of people around when we went on a Sunday with the pup.
As a weekend camper, I love parks like this... simple, quiet, well run, plenty of trees for shade and separation. Washrooms were clean and well maintained... ( could have used a little more water pressure in the shower, but...)
Site was an easy back-in... utility stand was well positioned.
One cautionary note... if, like me, you prefer to roam around barefoot, watch out for the sand fleas... :-)
Beautiful trails that cover several different types of Florida habitats, from dry pines to wetlands.
Staying here now. It is clean and beautiful 😊. Each camp site is private and we'll kept up. The roads are good and shopping is closer to the campground. They have a lot to do and the campground host is friendly, the staff and volunteers are professional and willing to help you out or show you where you can go for anything from 🐎 horse area to kayak area. Playground is still closed, but many trails to explore. Bugs are not bad at this time of year. Well done state parks.
Great loop hiking. Deer, bobcat and woodpeckers. 3.5 to 6.5 double loop hike. Easy hiking.
We were there for the hiking. Did a nice trail, just shy of a 4 mile loop. It was primarily flat with various terrain underfoot-- sand, dirt, mud, leaves, tree roots, and some wooden planks.
A great Park that disappoints the disabled.
The hiking options here are really nice. But we came here to kayak. My wife can't hike more than 100 yards. Kayaking did not happen. What is called the launch area here is a beautiful, beachy bend in the river. To get there, you have to walk a loose sand path for about a quarter mile. Then you have to make it down a steep shoreline. Neither things that someone with a walking disability can master. I wouldn't call this a wasted weekend, but it was rather disappointing to see what is not done for the disabled. On a side note, it was surprisingly empty while we were here.
I am sure it is 5 star if you are in good shape. The kayak/canoe launch was quite a hike from the parking lot. I understand the park will lend you carts to get your kayak to the launch. I only found out by asking someone who was using a cart. I did not see signs anywhere that imparted this information. The actual launch area was really lovely. It was a large sand area with a nice slope for launching.
It's a beautiful park but please add water spickets near the shelters on the trail for heart patients like myself. I should have brought water and I went into a stroke on the trail and my daughter couldn't find water to wake me up with. I went out like a light. Thanks
North enterance. I really like this park but I should rate it lower... it needs maintenance... come on Hillsborough county invest in our resources! It's often overgrown (sometimes literally pushing through shoulder high grass) especially the six mile loop, and the wood walkways are downright dangerously falling apart. When it rains a lot many parts of the trails are impassable without soaked feet.
Side note, a really nice addition if it every gets funding would be a walkway bridge over the river to the south part of the park.
An awesome park to visit. Stayed two days, walked the trails and hated to leave!
So peaceful!! What a great day.
This is my families favorite hiking park. The views are beautiful.
Was a great place to camp we love it we definitely will be back
Natural old Florida setting with a beautiful little river flowing through. Lots of birds, manatees, turtles, and raccoons to observe. Quiet and peaceful.
When camping with two of my buddies here had some great neighbors next door to our site everyone was extremely friendly the kayak rental in the Canoe Outpost nearby was great the kayaking trip was a bit rugged but definitely worth it. Great place to go camping and spend the weekend with some friends and family will definitely do this again can't wait till I'm back at little Manatee River State Park
Beautiful and quiet. Great for hiking. We went in early June, so it was hot and the water level was low in the river. Very quick to get here from St. Petersburg. May be the closest state park to Pinellas County. I'd come back.
Neat trails but be ready for some muddy sections
