Reviews of Cypress Creek Nature Preserve (Tampa)
Michael York
Update 6/5/22: Wear old shoes if it has rained, trails pretty wet and can't avoid some of the bigger puddles. I thought it was fun. Did the red trail today which was fine, but the yellow trail and blue spur are prettier and a better walk if your time is limited. I noticed some directional arrows today which were helpful.
Hiked the yellow trail and blue spur trail on a Saturday afternoon, 3/19/22. Trails were marked and well maintained and not crowded at all. I could see spots that would be wet during the rainy season but were dry at this time. Lots of attractive areas and varied scenery. Pine flatland, oak hammock and even palm forest. Loved it. Just knocked off a star because there are several side "trails" which are not trails but instead access points for maintenance but are not marked so can be confusing. Also, there should be a sign after the boardwalk when walking back to the exit indicating which direction the exit is.

Nice park, a little bit of muddy trails but still fully walkable.

I hiked the entire outer boundary of all three trails last Saturday (10/15/22). I was surprised that I saw absolutely no one else on the trails that day. There were some wet areas on all three trails but none that I could not get around. I was surprised that there was not more wildlife but I did see some deer. The trails were very well marked which was a lifesaver as there were many other unmarked trails at the intersections. It was a very pleasant walk and I'd love to go back again. Perhaps in the winter when more wildlife can be expected? BTW there is no locked gate with a password required to get to the trail. But the red trail entrance is not on Lizard Tail Road but rather off New Tampa Blvd. a little further to the south.

Fun trail! We walked the two loop trails as part of the 2021 Hiking Spree. Note that the trailhead is 1300 ft from the designated parking lot. Biomes include palmetto scrub and cypress dome. We heard multiple species of bird, but only saw a cardinal and a yellow fellow of some sort. If you enjoy reindeer moss, various lichen and fungus, great news - you can find these in abundance. Abundant evidence of wild pigs that have torn up sections of the trail and its boundaries. Road noise present but not overwhelming.

This is a nice hiking trail. The parking is not near start of trail but trails are nice. I saw pretty flowers, butterflies and birds and bunnies along the trails. It was wet I spots after Eta but you can get around puddles. They also have map and good trail signs so you won't get lost

Really beautiful location great for a family walk. I went here recently for a photoshoot. My clients picked this location and I was a bit nervous since it’s been a rainy week. It was very muddy. I was able to find the perfect spot not to far from the entrance and I made it work! Just bring bug spray because I’ve never been more bit up in my life! Head to toe covered and I even wore long pants. Check out the photos soon on my Instagram- @highnoteshorizionphotography

This was a very cool trail! The only weird thing is the entrance. You park in the lot and then have to walk up the road a ways, and the actual trail entrance isn't marked well. It's down a small embankment just off the sidewalk. Kinda weird. If we hadn't asked someone walking the other way, I don't think we would've found it.
Make sure you know which trail you're doing (red or yellow) and maybe download the map. It's easy to get lost back there.

Open sunrise to sunset. Nice parking area and the tail head is a short walk on the sidewalk towards the school. You can’t miss it. I really the well marked and colored trail. Before you go look on the Hillsborough County website for the trail map to get your bearings on the different loops and color markers. The trail was dry. The tall grasses and wild flowers were very picturesque

Park your car. And walk to the south on the right hand side the opening will be upon you. It's up the street, and keep and eye out on the right/ There is an unofficial opening, but sometimes it's flooded out; keep going and you'll see the official opening to the trails. Many miles of beautiful trails. There is no camping, restrooms, use of bikes or fires. Not at this location.
Ric Rini
Visited this park with the 2020 Hillsborough county Hiking Spree. This particular park has a separate parking area and then a walk of about 100 yards before you actually enter the park. It's an easy stroll among Cypress trees and medium sized oaks. The shade canopy cover is about 40% to 50% of the hikeing trails.
Make sure you bring water and bug repellent. There are no restrooms or bench seating areas in this park.
Jonas Hiking Reviews
The trails were wide and clean. 2 miles in there is quite a lot of stagnant water and thus mosquitos. There wasn’t much to see. I think this was just land they didn’t know what to do with so they turned the dirt road into a trail.

Very beautiful sight. Going here after work is very relaxing and unwinding. Great walk to have while it’s nice and chilly and breezy.
Michael Hoffman
Flat but very well marked and maintained 2 loop trails

I went camping here and absolutely fell in love. First time camping and I enjoyed every second of it. Great place to connect with Mother Earth.
Marlon Edwards
This is a lovely little park that is good for a casual, low impact hike.
A lot of the trail has little or no shade so take that into consideration when you visit.
There is a big open area of palmetto bushes and areas with pine and cyprus trees.
I took some points off because the designated parking lot is very small, capacity about 10 vehicles and then there is about a 5 minute walk along the street to get to the trail. It was not that intuitive the first time at the park.
Kenneth Gibson
Interesting place for a lunchtime stroll. Entrance is easy to miss-just a small walkthrough by a metal polegate on the East side of Livingston across from Silver Forrest Lane. Very small parking area guarantees against crowds. Only one real trail with a few side branches. Oak scrub and some palmetto, intermixed with pine, sweet gum, and maple. Several open, sunny clearings. At the back is an area with small water puddles-probably underwater in the rainy season. I walked about 1/2 mile back and it seemed to go on quite a ways past that. Several types of ferns, mosses, and flowering plants. Saw one blooming air plant (a Tithonia). Nice place to bring a folding chair and a picnic lunch. Today (Feb 20) was 80 degrees, but mosquito presence was minimal. For a woodland park in the midst of crowded suburbia, it was quite nice
AC Molly
The red trail entrance near the parking area is about 1/4 mile on the right towards the high school. It is near the speed curve sign.
Christopher Gardner
Nice quite primitive camp ground with hiking and biking trails through out the park.
Jason Harris
This is a hidden gem in the Tampa Palms area for hiking and running. This is a good alternative to Flatwoods.
Be prepared to get muddy as the back end of the trails are rough and aren't clearly marked. You can easily get 4-5 miles out of this trail. Parking is sparse and is 1/4 mile from the entrance. The trails are very light traffic and can go without seeing anyone on them.
Go check this out if you haven't been.
Seth Novasio
It was a nice walk. Didn't see much wildlife but very easy walk
Bishwajit Nepali
Good for hiking
Thomas
Pretty neat, went a day after some heavy rain so a lot of the path was underwater but that just made it more of an adventure. Took about 3 hours to do the whole thing.
Vernon White
Good trail. Parking is just off the road. A few parts of the trail have backyards but the trail is separated by a fence. Pretty peaceful.
Barbara Craig
Hours are posted as 8 am - 5 pm so I made sure I returned to my car by 5 pm. However, when I left there were several cars still in the parking lot after 5 pm. So I would like to know when the gate is locked. There is no place to park outside the gate so I don't recommend heading out there in the afternoon. Nice trails but didn't see any birds or wildlife.
Ed
Took some time to find access to the preserve biking trails off the paved sidewalk. The white no access signs look exactly like the access signs. Once on the trails had a great ride. color coded posts help you find your way back. Also biked the New Tampa road bridge over interstate 75 which had some nice views.

This is for the Cypress Creek Preserve Park in Hillsborough County, not for the SFWMD park with the same name in Pasco County.
This county park is very much wilderness and is designated a nature preserve. There are 3 marked trails and a number of other unmarked trails. Trails are rough and frequently turned over by wild pigs. Park is not very busy and mnany of the trails are suitable for mountain bikes. Ferile pigs and deer can be frequently seen, primarily on the unmarked trails where this is less human interaction.
Of course, bring water in the hot summer months. Download maps on your phone in case you are out of cell tower range.
Eve Thorpe
Lots of trails, but mostly unmarked. First time in my life i got all turned around with blind trails and had to use my GPS! Lots of room to walk & explore, and the weather was gorgeous, which made it all worthwhile.
Jade
Beautiful epiphyete covered old tall oak trees..Very quite and beatiful trails..It is not well maintained at all.
Stanley Sultanpuss
Quite a nice area lots of wildlife so wild hogs and many other kinds of birds not a great place for mountain biking but good for hiking some low-lying buddy spots so be prepared for that overall a nice experience especially for this area hope they don't build too many more homes around there though
Linda Behrens
Wonderful place to see real Florida..Go early it gets hot quickly, the birds are the cherry on the top of this delicious bowl that is hard to get out of your head..! Like many who see it once, returning over and over is in your brain forever..!!!
Brandon Steele
The preserve does not have any parking but the flora and fauna are gorgeous. Only a couple minutes after entering, I noticed a large rattlesnake near a palmetto bush. Mosquitoes were not too bad but definitely noticed them when at a standstill. Would recommend for those looking for more serious trail walking compared to leisurely walking/recreation.
larry rosario
I don't who is in charge of this preserve but whoever's is getting paid to clean up around the preserve is not doing it often. Lots of cans, bottles ,and paper all over the outer rim of the preserve.
Patrick Gorrell
Definitely not as walking friendly as Violet Curry down the road because it isn't as well maintained. But if you're looking to work a little harder during your walk then this is a good place.
David DuGay
Trail was fairly wet, which is not surprising given the rain we've been having. Mostly for break toe roads, with one nice boardwalk /bridge.
David DuBois
No bugs, dry trails and enjoyable
Bob McElroy
Newly blazed and improved trail markings. Be aware the colors for the trails have changed per SOP's for Hillsborough County.
Sovereign5409
The preserve is okay. Not the best, not the worst.
TH.556
Very quiet...It's a hole in the wall though...You'll miss it if you arint paying attention to the road...Just a walk through the fence is the entrance...
Lauren Baggio
We absolutely love this park, so do our dogs.
Sandra Humphrey
Love it here friends and family deep enough in places to swim but mostly just wading sandy beaches nice little trail down bathrooms and drinking water nice little place
STAN CETNOR
Great spot to hike and enjoy wildlife, however better to access from Freedom high and there is poor access from the parking lot for the park.
Yunus Ates
This was an amazing nature preserve until I saw that they messed up the trail. it seems they shaved up the hiking route.
keith sanders
Nice quiet place to walk
Tammy Dixon
It's nice but there isn't much scenery. The oaths are marked well though.
Krystalynn Doria

MID Nov 2020 water on trails. You can navigate around but be prepared.
Brock Sullivan
A great venue for a party. They hosted a 50th anniversary party for my inlaws, and it was well received party.
Anthony Spehr
Great area to go with your dog. Easy to get lost so pay attention
Michael Hoffman
It's just a couple of loops that are marked bunch of unmarked trails
