Reviews of Gilgal Sculpture Garden
Great little garden to take a nice stroll. It is located in between a couple of houses, and it is not out in the open like a big open park setting would be. However, it is very well compressed into a nice peaceful stroll. There are benches throughout to sit on, and lots of different rock sculptures and scriptures on rocks you could take the time to read. You could even find a bench to sit on and just enjoy the flower garden. No cost to get in, donations accepted, and it is handicap ♿️ accessible.
This little garden is so special and unique. I'm not from this area so I'm not sure of the back story here. But the vibe is very peaceful and almost reverent. We went there on such a gorgeous day that the entire garden seemed to sparkle. I love everything about this place. If you like unusual and off the beaten path folk art you might find these gardens as wonderfully intriguing and mysterious as I do.
If you are looking for an interesting park to visit while in Salt Lake City Gilgal is it! I had been here before and there were homeless people sleeping and a mess in there. This time around the landscape looks amazing! It looks like they really have been taking care of this park. We enjoyed walking around and reading all about the interesting sculptures, seeing butterflies, and all the beautiful flowers!
Very nice, small garden with several rock sculptures and flowering plants. I took two stars because it was a mile long walk from the hotel at a 100 degrees temperature and we did it because it looked like it was going to be, um, more. If you are nearby and can go there to breath in and out on a regular basis, I am sure it can be a refreshing stop. But it is not worth going out of you way if you only have a limited amount of time in Salt Lake City.
Wonderful, lovely experience! This sculpture garden really is a hidden gem and a must see when visiting SLC.
There was plenty of free parking available near the entrance and the entrance is clearly labeled, although tucked between homes.
There are free pamphlets at the start of the garden, be sure to grab one of these so you can get some more insight into each sculpture.
It was so peaceful here and such a unique experience! Definitely recommend checking it out and as a bonus, it's free to visit and dog friendly! Just make sure to keep those pups on a leash and the area free from waste.
This was interesting, if small. It is very arty, but also slightly creepy. There are bible verses engraved in the artworks and paving stones all around, so it is heavily Christian themed. I would have liked it to be a bit bigger, but as small as it is, it is a good way to spend an hour in SLC.
It was cool! I thought it would be larger. Definitely not the best place for dogs but we were lucky, there were not a lot of people when we went so our dog wasn't as crazy. Our daughter liked exploring a little and smelling the flowers. Just had to make sure she didn't climb on the rocks that were art. It is definitely a cool place to see which I had never known about. It is very peaceful and quiet.
Wow... What a hidden gem... This place was really cool. Was trying to find something free to do with my boys and we went and checked this place out. It was worth the drive. Beautiful little place. Well cared for gardens. Lots of unique flowers and plants and even more unique sculptures 😊. I loved the creativity and unique style of the artist. His creativity combined with his pain for the inspiration he finds in scriptures and poetry... I loved it. We spent about 20 minutes here and it was enough for my boys... But would have loved to have spent some more time and read everything engraved in all the stones.
Amazingly pretty and clean! Super nice landscaping and gardening surrounding the suberb masonry art! Was totally alone at 10am. It was so peaceful and beautiful!
This place was quite peculiar but, honestly, very peaceful and beautiful. The flowers and the gardens are breathtaking and very fragrant.. The community does maintain the place very well. We ended up meeting a little Kitty that was roaming in there and after some contacts we figured it was rescued and reunited to its family. That was great news!
The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a fun and unique expression of the religious faith of Thomas Child, Jr. (1888-1963). Child went to great lengths to find and transport boulders from across the state to torch cut them into sculptures in his spare time. While it is unique, I would recommend visiting only if you are in the area. This is not a destination attraction. But if you are nearby, be sure to also check out the gothic style LDS 10th Ward Chapel.

》A hidden garden of stones engraved with scriptures, a Joseph Smith Sphinx, all carved by one man. Thomas Battersby Child, Jr. in the mid-twentieth century created 12 sculptures, and over 70 stones engraved with Mormon scriptures, poems, and literary texts.《

The park is not fully taken care of. There is a broken chair and one weird area. I won't reccomend to go there when it is dark
One of the nicest sculpture parks in all of Salt Lake the other ones that we visited did not have as many Brighham Spynx sculptures as Gigal garden does. Planning on coming back for some sunbathing when it’s summertime.
It's a nice park, tricky to find it in a neighborhood. It is wheelchair accessible, it has a paved path through the park. Some trails of the pavement won't be wheelchair accessible. Be sure to get a brochure at the front to explain some of the exhibits.
Beautiful, small and very unique garden. Plenty of benches to sit, enjoy and reflect. Great combination of art and religion
God,,,,, what a place. Iconic, well-designed, bizarre, peaceful. A great place to take out-of-towners. A must-visit place for folk-art connesuorues (idk how to spell, fight me). Shoutout Dr. Gilgal for this special place!
What a cool little place. I took my granddaughter just out of curiosity. Such talented artists. Very small, but worth a walk through.
Great, the sculptural arrangements over 70 stones engraved with sculptures and poems.
Small garden with some neat statues. The flowers though were amazing!! Thank you to the women who was gardening that spoke with me about certain flowers. I’m guessing she was a volunteer. I was very happy when she cut me off some seed pods from some annuals I really liked. Walking through took 15-20 minutes. Would go back the next time I’m in SLC.
Cute little sculpture garden! Nice place to sit and read.
I've heard about this place for a while, and just realized that it's a 5 minute walk from my work. I checked it out on lunch yesterday. Since we're in the middle of a 100 degree heat wave I didn't stay as long as I would like, but I really enjoyed it. I wish I was able to read all of the engravings. It's really cool that this unique little park is open and free to the public. The flowers in June were so beautiful.
Easy to get to and a good amount of on street parking in the area. The entrance is a little tucked back though. Almost walked up a neighboring driveway until we saw the smaller signs for the garden. Main sign was being refurbished and not in place when we were there.
Gilgal Gardens is a hidden gem right in Salt Lake City, Utah where there's always something blooming virtually year round. From the beautiful flowering trees, tulips and daffodils in the spring, to roses of all varieties and colors, along with a variety of other beautiful flowering plants all summer and into the fall, there's always something to see. There's even a family of quail who call the garden home. Add to the beauty of the flowers the unique and sometimes strange sculptures scattered throughout the garden and this is a must see place of interest when visiting the city.
Beautiful hidden gem! I was excited to explore with my family and my friends family.
Definitely worth picking up the brochure at the beginning of the path and reading some of the back story about this cool park and it's incredible creator.
This is an interesting place to visit. I first heard about it from a coworker. “A sphinx with Joseph Smith’s head? Come on…” I stand corrected. Quite literally just that. Interesting scripture references & totally free, not crowded & just really interesting to consider someone took the time to put this all together. My kind of weird place & worth a visit.
Great little free distraction in the city. If you need to kill a little time while waiting this is a great place to visit. Lots of flowers and interesting sculptures and rocks. We visited while waiting for my father to be discharged from the hospital. It was a bright spot in a not so terrific day.
The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a unique/eclectic/mildly unsettling collection of stone sculptures, engravings, and plant life, all curated by a single man with what one may refer to as a vision. The garden is relatively small but dense, and visits can take anywhere from 1/2 to several hours, depending on how in-depth you wish to experience the gardens attractions. The sculptures and carvings are all vaguely religious in line with the Mormon faith, but interspersed with the personal reflections of the parks founder, making for a very interesting glimpse into the mentality of Western settlement, perhaps even manifest destiny itself. All in all, the gardens are worth stopping by for the experience, even if just for a quick half hour visit.
This is a Utah hidden gem! If you haven’t go and explored this park then you need to get on it! This place is full of art and sculptures. A ton of history about Utah and Mormons. It is very interesting to get a view of all this art and history that you might not be aware of. If you are just visiting Salt Lake City you should defiantly come check out this park. They have a lot of stuff in here that will help you get a feel for why Utah is the way it is. If you live here and you haven’t check this park out then get on it.
Great place! A hidden treasure!
I've wanted to visit this place for a while, and I am glad I finally made it. I thought all of the sculptures were really interesting, and I found all of the scriptures and quotes interesting as well. I definitely plan on going back when I have more time to explore.
Fun, quick visit. Seems like it's in a residential backyard. It seems like it was someone's pride and joy and they put in a lot of hard work sculpting those rocks. Lots of religious significance to most of it. We were through in like 15 mins. Nice place to have in the neighborhood for who ever lives around there. It's fun to see since it's free
Beautiful sculpture garden in the day or night, snow or sun! Worth the visit. Only take a few minutes and is free!
Beautiful flowers. Grounds are kept clean. Lots of scriptures on the rocks. Very peaceful setting.
It very very small garden with a few interesting sculptures . Stop by only if you are in that neighborhood.
Stange and wonderful. Not easy to access in a wheelchair. Mostly out in the sun. Just wild stuff. It's difficult to describe. Lots of scriptural reference. Not great art, but interesting anyway. Not large, but you can finish seeing everything in 10 minutes, or 2 hours. Not great parking, as it's on the street. Plus, the park is in a residential area. Worth the time, but young kids would probably get bored. Food and drink is nearby. I would like to go back.
Beautiful place. It would be a wonderful place to sit and contemplate if it wasn’t 95 degrees.
This park is so unique and different from anything I have ever seen. It is very small and kind of hidden.
Hidden gem in the middle of the busy Salt Lake City. The place also have a wall with pictures from the moment this park was created. A very quiet place that take all the stress away from this loud City
So cool!! Weird to be in downtown SLC, but it was so quiet other than birds chirping happily! We even saw a squirrel! The sculptures were incredible! Definitely a must see!
If you want to see the unusual side of SLC, this is the best place to go!
The sculpture garden is not very big, you can see everything in less than 15 minutes if you just walk around. There are little things to look at and read if you want to spend more time there.
The parking is on the street. If it's a nice day, I'll park at Trolley Square and walk the block and a half to the garden.
Great little place for a quick visit. When putting the address in Lyft, it took us to the back of the garden, so be aware of that. It's not a very big place and it's interesting to see construction surrounding it. Good for a quick stop, maybe about 30min max. Especially on a hot day
Nice quiet area with great statues and greenery , enjoyed the roses walking in and the art inside, the late hours open helped me as well , thank you!
Very interesting place and well worth the visit. Can be tricky to find because it is in the middle of a residential area. Relaxing and free.
Went during the early summer. Lovely Flowers and interesting sculptures. It's about 15/30 minute walk thru. Off the beaten path & worth the stop
This place is a fascinating matchup between a man's faith and his talent for sculpting. He has expressed his faith through his sculpture and his sculptures are interesting, sometimes disturbing, and very well done.
I really thought this was going to be a bit more than what there was shown but, what one sees on Google maps is what you get, so not too much to see. No bathroom and it is tucked in between two buildings, kinda looks like a public garden type of spot
Very nice clean park. The rock sculptures were interesting. Loved the sayings engraved in stone.
Such a cool place! I recommend checking this place out whenever you can! It's fun for a spot to adventure to! 10/10 would recommend!
Such a beautiful well kept park. Lots of hidden things to see and read. There's also a portable toilet in the back corner just in case.
I loved the place, although the area is quite tricky to find since it's in between two houses. But I took plenty of pictures and had a wonderful time walking around and enjoying the free art.
Really, really interesting, free place to visit. Won't take you long; it's kind of small. We do wish there were descriptions or history or background or something; we had no idea what anything was depicting or what anything meant. Like the Sphinx--we wouldn't have known it had the face of Joseph Smith had we not read it beforehand. Overall, though, pretty cool spot to visit.
Nice little spot to walk, kind of weird if you don’t know much about mormon culture... like myself
I searched for a surprise experience for my girlfriend and I to visit in the Salt Lake area. This was very eclectic and different to the point that we spent a couple hours just walking and visiting the gardens, sculptures in a very quiet, peaceful place in downtown area of Salt Lake. We were delighted with something different and cool. I suggest taking an hour or so to visit and see the strange and delightful sculptures that are now preserved by the Gilgal Preservation Society for all of us to enjoy. Thanks friends for your preservation efforts.
Beautiful. Interesting. I love hidden pockets of culture sprinkled throughout the city.
Cute garden with shade and a nice breeze. Enjoyed looking at the quotes. Clean porta potty in the garden!
Pretty cool garden! Definitely interesting stuff and cool how hidden/tucked away it is.
I used to be looked at awkwardly as a kid, when I prayed at lunch time "Dear Jehovah God, thank you for this food, my family, and my friends.." Then I became an atheist because of hardships. I was brought to KRSNA consciousness and became a true believer before realizing all God's names are his. Including Jehovah. Krishna, Vishnu, Jesus, Kalki, Jehovah. I came to this garden not knowing it would be full of beautiful scriptures. I was rushed to leave, but I'll be back. Just like Him.
Super interesting place, the sculptures are awesome, vibes are very cool and weird.
Chill little spot to take your kids. Very calm and peaceful. The sculptures were cool and I like that the stones on the ground had inspirational quotes.
Super awesome little garden tucked away in Salt Lake. The sculptures are something else, and if you don't have ties to Mormonism, it's definitely worth stopping by. There's even some parking right in front of the entrance to the garden.
This place is fascinating, and I love that there is now a brochure to guide visitors through the oddness that is Gilgal. Kudos to the volunteer group responsible!
Neat little sculpture garden. Interesting stonework and plenty of quotes to read of rocks. Definitely worth stopping by!
This place was kinda neat, very small, and very hard to find by Google Maps. But glad I went.
A cool place to visit with some interesting sculptures. Consider it a detour rather than a main event.
What a fun little place!! I can't wait to go back when everything is in bloom.
Small but nice exhibit. Can be seen fairly quickly. Worth the visit if you are nearby. Some views on religion and other subjects are expressed. Freedom of expression should be celebrated in our beautiful country, so go ahead and enjoy it.
Very small garden with some odd but interesting art. Check it out for an intriguing look into an individual's beliefs that I would call LDS adjacent. Only takes about 10-20 minutes to see everything, and there is a pamphlet available with details/explanations.
Great place to be but the location is too small in area.
Beautiful little park, interesting sculptures and gorgeous trees, flowers and bird houses.
Fun, odd, little out-of-the way park in downtown SLC. Take a peek and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The garden is beautiful, I am a little sad that it wasn't bigger but as it's located in the middle of private properties it also makes sense.
Beautiful place to spend some time in and relax, maybe have a picnic.
Most obscure and awesome little place in Salt Lake City that I've found. There is a new little family of quail running around that are absolutely adorable.
Interesting an odd. A folk art sculpture garden made by a devout Mormon as an act of faith.
Very artistic and welcoming.
Must see, the visit requires less than one hour if you are in Salt Lake City
Didnt know this place existed, fun and creative place to visit for outdoor sculptures.
However disturbing you think Joseph sphinx is in picture I promise you its worse in person. Do not miss.
Fascinating place tucked away quite discreetly. Reading the story behind each sculpture a must!
This is an awesome piece of Utah history! This park was originally the back yard of Thomas Child's home, a masonry contractor. He started building the sculptures in 1947, when he was 57 years old. All of the sculptures are related to the beliefs and teachings of the LDS church, which Child belonged to.
The garden becomes more interesting if you take the time to learn the background behind the park itself. The sculptures are very unique and interesting and I wish I could know what Thomas Child was thinking as he made each culpture.
Everytime I have been there, the park has been especially windy so I would recommend bringing a jacket.
Interesting place. Enjoyed my trip
A very interesting little sculpture garden tucked into the middle of a neighborhood. There are brochures at the entrance to explain what you are looking at and lovely gardens to enjoy. Only takes a few minutes to wander over the whole thing but it's a lovely place to linger. Highlight is of course the Joseph Smith sphinx.
Beautiful Garden with intetesting sculptures.
Quirky little sculpture garden created as a passion project of a mormon bishop who used to own the land. Only takes a few minutes to walk around and see the whole thing. It is an interesting piece of Salt Lake history that is worth checking out. The pamphlet provided gives a good summary of the site and has information that makes the visit more informative.
Beautiful gardens... If your LDS. I love the artwork and the flowers and garden here, and as the great grandchild of Maurice E. Brooke's (the sculpter, he assisted on working on the gardens and did the lovely sphinx) I went there to see a piece of my family heritage on display. As not an LDS person I can only enjoy it on it's level of technicality and artistry, I can reccomend this for a quick passthrough but only if your curious, if you enjoy the religious aspect this may the place for you.
Interesting little garden tucked away in downtown SLC.
Very cool, unique, small like statue park
Love this little garden. So unique to Salt Lake City. There is nothing else like it anywhere.
What an interesting place. I love finding places like this hidden in cities!!
This is a Small but very cozy and pleasant place! There is very good energy there. At the entrance you can pick up brochures that tell about the park! There are many interesting and unusual exhibits. There is a mini photo gallery under the roof. Lots of beautiful flowers! There are benches for convenience and even a toilet! This is a great concern for the visitors and the park! The narrow inconspicuous entrance is like a courtyard, but Googlemaps will help you find the entrance!)
Pretty neat! It’s a little small, but a good place to spend about 20 minutes or so.
Quirky, strange, and very Utah. 100% absolutely worth visiting, even if just for the Joseph Smith Sphynx alone.
I took two friends from SL who had never been to Gil-Gal, a little gem of a park in central city near Trolley Square, and they were blown away. I've known of this place all my life, and was fortunate to meet Mr. Childs when I was a young lad. I'm really happy that the grounds have been maintained and landscaped. If you like art and sculpture you will love this peaceful, spiritual space.
I'm going here for years. Even before it was open to the public. I mean... where else are you going to see a Joseph Smith Sphinx? Also a film location for Plan Ten from Outer Space. A film that is apocryphal Mormon scripture!
Such a great place with such rich artwork and history. Very tucked away, makes you feel as if you're walking into a secret.
One of the coolest little areas, secretly tucked away but the art really speaks for itself.
Its so wonderful. I was disappointed because of there is no information about sculptures. There are some sculptures ,you have to find answers/inspiration about that. If you are interested in sculptures you must visit this garden and Utah too.
Very interesting and so much talent. Don't miss seeing this in SLC. Be sure to grab a brochure so you can fully understand Mr. Child's vision. Highly recommend.
This is a pretty weird but cool little sculpture garden. I would definitely recommend going if you live around the SLC area
Very strange as a concept, but a nice testament to the work and beliefs of a wealthy white man. Well maintained and a lovely little green space. Definitely grab a brochure!
It is like taking acid and looking at sculptures, just that you are not high and the sculptures are insane and rife with meaning
It's a small garden but you can find interesting peaces.
This place was pretty cool. A lot to read. Parking not so good, but as to be expected for the location.
Best sculptures in Utah, thus if definitely a cultural adventure
Small sculpture garden with a mormon theme. Looks like it could look beautiful in the fall
Nice, quiet garden, interesting sculptures. There was a nice pamphlet available to explain the sculptures.
Too many scriptures for me to read. Interesting sculptures though.
Beautiful sculptures!!! Nice Lil stop on our way back to our Airbnb for the nite!!!
This is an interesting place near Trolley square. I wouldn't make a special trip but if you are going to Trolley Square stop by.
Interesting stone sculptures! Almost all of it is Mormon-themed, so not as interesting for me, but it makes sense. There's some beautiful flowers (Having gone in early/mid-June) that you can walk through. It's a little small, but impressive considering it's just in a backyard in the suburbs.
What a great strange little place in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. Highly recommended if you have time to explore all the carving and saying. While heavily influenced by Mormonism, even those outside the church will find this a bizarre spectacle.
I was expecting it to be super weird, but honestly, it's an artist's portrayal of their testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It was very thought provoking; I really enjoyed it.
Free to do. Lots of different sculptures that are church related and have parts of scriptures engraved on rocks.
Gilgal is a very interesting little garden. If you haven't been here I highly recommend you check it out. So much to see and learn. It is also a nice quite place to sit and read a book without a lot of people around.
Very interesting Mormon exhibit in the middle of people’s gardens. The brochure explained the sculptures well. Worth a quick stop if you’re in the area!
The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a short 1/2 block walk from Trolley Square, making it worth the visit if you're already in the area. The best way to describe the sculptures is "quirky" but they are interesting, well done, and amusing. The landscaping and flower arrangements were great, and it made for an awesome place to spend a sunset. I took two business partners here after dinner nearby, and both seemed happy enough about the garden that we all felt like it was worth the short visit.
A nice oasis near downtown. Lovingly care for by some great and dedicated volunteers that were happy to explain things to us. We did our visit in less than an hour, which seemed about right. The sculptures are a little eclectic, but interesting. It's a little hard to figure out the correct entrance. Take the one on the left, or you will end up in someone's yard.
Small interesting park.
Eh - this was just part of a day exploring SLC. I just looked up art museums and this one popped up. After spending my morning at the Botanical Gardens, I figured why not. Well...this is quite different than that. Definitely has a Christian vibe to it. Definitely a Mormon touch to that. Which is to be expected. But I didn't get much out of the garden otherwise. It could use some freshened up landscaping that's for sure. The sculptures were nice to look at - but I'm just not looking for God in art (even though there is a huge connection there).
Worth checking out, it's a small and unique sculpture Garden.
A really interesting and unique place! It’s awesome to see something so creative and eccentric. It’s not a very big place, but there’s plenty of interest to see. It’s great that it’s open to the public, I’ve never seen it too crowded.
Wish information about the sculptures could be provided.
A nice refuge in the city from the unending heat as others have said. The garden is well maintained without a shadow of a doubt and it is very safe and at times quiet and serene. I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone nor is it a must stop for visitors to SLC but if you’re nearby I still believe you should peak your head in.
My new zen spot. Why am I only discovering this place now? Gorgeous, peaceful, and very unique
Bizarre and quirky. Very unique for sure.
Such a neat learning experience. We loved how evedy sculpture had a deeper meaning. There are pampers at the entrance of this cute hidden gem of a place describing the meaning to the sculptures around. I will definitely be coming back and referring to show all the people I know.
A nice little place to stop and enjoy a stroll.
Reminds me of my own wacky great-grandpa who made sculptures out of leftover brick mortar. My fiancé loved the flowers.
Some cool sculptures and it's free
Pretty small but cool artsy space. Can’t beat no cost for entry!
My favorite piece of art was the homeless man sleeping next to the Smith’s shopping cart.
Very interesting place, I've brought all my friends here, it's just so unique and interesting. It's a sculpture garden so it's a lot of art and flowers, really beautiful.
It's free, all outdoors so it's safe to go to, and there's benches to sit at and one area with benches and a table. I like to have picnics there sometimes.
Interesting sculptures, all created by one person. It's a good place to spend 30 minutes slowly taking in the structures, but it is not an extensive garden. There was no entry fee, but I believe there is a spot for donations.
On a positive note, there's no debatibg that this park was created with hard work and it's upkeep is impeccable. It's an impressive small garden. I was disappointed to see African Egyptian replica insulted with a religious colonialist face chiseled into it and felt like I was being beaten over the head with religious idolatry. That being said it was just OK to walk through, felt that the hype that was given by the multiple recommendations fell flat.
Quirky. Fine for a quick photo stop. Not crowded. Hole in the wall pocket park. A testament to one man's passion. Did his artwork speak to me? No. Are they amazing works of art? Not really. The amazing part is he had this vision and just devoted his life to creating this thing and it's still there. Easy parking too.
Beautiful and mysterious. Serenity in the middle of the city. Unique history you won't find outside of salt lake city.
Interesting sculptures. Nice atmosphere for a contemplative walk.
I’ve stopped by here a couple times. This is one of those little gems of a place. If you blink, you’ll drive right by! The sculptures are unique and abstract. There are many carved stones with scripture and bible verse. There are benches and places to sit. Your visit time may vary but you can take most of it in under an hour. Street parking is limited but there are typically only 2-4 others there at a time. I recommend taking it in while on a visit to Trolley Square since it’s very close, park at Trolley and walk over.
Not much to see here but interesting for about 15 minutes. If you read the pamphlet and do their self guided tour that is
This weird and unique place is such a strangely perfect place to sit and ponder.
Very unique sculptures in a garden setting. It is not easy to see the entrance from the street it is between two houses.
Free. Peaceful. Good place to eat your lunch.
I first heard of this place sometime during the 1960's. There were lots of stories about it circulating among Salt Lake's Hippi community. At that time it was not open to the public, as it is today. Some of the stories ranged from wild & crazy to absolute fantastic, and in retrospection, held little if any truth or fact.
Strange as life is, years later as a member of The Sons of Utah Pioneers I had the opportunity to help save the garden from demolition.
Today it remains not only a Salt Lake City/Utah treasure, but a national treasure as well! The sculptures found in this garden are unique in every way, from conception to design and they way they were formed!
For more information: please visit the place!
Nice sculptures which show the love of his church. The grounds needs some tender loving care. We made a donation online to help (as there is no entry fee).
Beautiful place for flowers and salt lake history. Amazing sculptures!
It’s a cute, small park, perfect for taking pictures. It has really interesting statues. I was here for about 20 minutes taking pictures.
Beautiful, peaceful garden with many Mormon texts engraved in stone.
Beautiful sculptures a must see when visiting SLC
Interesting place in a residential area of town. Stone carvings of Bible and Book of Mormon scriptures. Very pretty with numerous flowers there, also. Sphinx sculpture with Joseph Smith's head on it.
The only downside to this place is you can tell the homeless have started camping here which takes away from the beauty. Wish they'd at least clean up after themselves. In every other way though this place is amazing i walked in not knowing what to expect when i accidentally found the park. The sculptures are amazing and i love how they depict the prophecies inscripted below them from the scriptures.
Weird and interesting. Artistic interpretation of the Mormon Church.
Don't bring your nonmember friends... but this place is pinnacle of salt lake weirdness combined with high priest group leader quirkiness.
We were traveling through and decided to take a stop here. It is smaller than I thought, but would be great for a picnic or a quick stop to walk through like we did. The GPS led us on the other side where there was no entrance and we had to drive around the block a couple times to spot the sign and find parking. It's definitely an interesting place to walk through, it's pretty and I got some nice pictures. I would recommend making this quick stop.
At least most of the sculptures have religious context but even as someone who dislikes Mormonism and all that, the art is still beautiful and can be appreciated nonetheless. It is a little difficult to find even with GPS. There isn't a parking lot so park on the street and then walk to it.
Interesting and free. Cute little garden.
This place is so fun to go to on a Sunday afternoon! Its the journal of a former bishop, in the form of rock sculpture! My kids favorite part is the section where they get to stack rocks and create!
My Grandmother 1st trip & we both were in Awe! So Beautiful!!
Weird quant walkthrough is totally worth 15 minutes
Cute little park with flower beds around it and awesome sculptures with a history behind them.
It's beautiful, quite and tiny garden. It looks good even in the winter, I'd really want to see it when it's in full bloom. And don't think that you will be done with it in 5 mins, there is a lot to see, and there are a lot of text on stones scattered around garden.
I wish I could've enjoyed the whole thing but I feared getting too close to an area with several homeless men while I was there alone. Definitely go as a group.
This is an abstract place in the city and you'd think it could only be appreciated by true artists but I always see families walking through here, definitely a cool place to have a small picnic or to inspire young minds. It is suprisingly very tranquil for it's location in downtown. A great place to think or find inspiration.
Beautiful and peaceful, the garden is cared for by volunteers, but beloved by all who are privileged to find it. It is barely noticeable from the street, looking more like a alleyway or gated house, the rose lined sidewalk is the only thing standing out from the quaint houses and lush yards that occupy the neighborhood. It's worth it to find such an oasis on a hot day in a busy city, because the traffic jams, deadlines and chaos will fade the deeper into the garden you venture. While admittedly, the less fortunate have discovered this gem, they are amazingly respectful and content to enjoy the garden just like you.
While this is a small park and easy to look over, it's worth taking a stroll through on a nice day. With several larger than life sized pieces of art, this is a cool stop on your way across town. Several areas do tend to be smelly and ridden with fecal matter, but besides that it's well worth the visit!
I have been here before, but it is now a little fenced in public park. It is stunning with its beautiful flower gardens with the sculptures and stone pathways. It is surprising how many people who have lived in SLC all their lives and have never even heard of this place. A cute little hidden gem right in downtown Salt Lake.
It will take less than an hour, even if you take pictures and read all of the inscriptions.
The story behind this garden is intriguing. The sculptures are awesome. Each area attempts to tell a story... It's up to the visiting individual to discern what that story is. It won't take you very long to walk through this garden and you'll want to come back...
A must see. And see again and again.
I was inspired while visiting this Gilgal. My father, Dallas made a different Gilgal back in the 70s. It is located in Kodachrome Basin, Utah..
Anway, I sketched out this Venus of Willendorf Moroni for use by the church as either a new cover for The Book of Mormon, or a gold leafed statue atop the steeple on the next temple.
Pretty sure they'll use it soon. 🤔 lol
And do visit this Gilgal.
There is a lyrical sort of transcendence here, which will make you smile in its freedom.
Such a cool and hidden gem around downtown Salt Lake City. The sculptures are amazing and park is very well cared for. Only issue is that two gentleman were sitting in the park drinking beer. I believe they were drunk based on movements. Just be careful.
The best part of this place is that it is free. They do well keeping the place looking nice. It is close to a strip mall where you can park your car for free. There are all sorts of hidden inspirational quotes. There was a few homeless people there smoking.
Super weird place. Interesting history
One place in Salt Lake City, visited by few out of town tourists, but well worth discovering!
Among the most beautiful, unique, offbeat attractions that Salt Lake City has to offer. Anyone who wants to date their curiosity about LDS history should balance their visit to Temple Square with a visit to this weird and wonderful park. The sculpture garden has an excellent walking tour to explain its ins and outs. Whether you spend 15 minutes or 2 hours here, you will leave in satisfied wonderment.
Worth the price. At least there was a honey bucket there.
It was a very interesting place. However, it gets a 4 star for me. It is very interesting because you can tell how passionate he was about this. However, I didn't understand the meaning of it because I'm not mormon. Someone who is will probably understand more. It has around 12 sculptures.
Really cool place to not only play a little walking dead or ingress on my phone but awesome to just explore and see some really cool things and art. I gotta take my kids here at some points as well. Love the face that it's a dated off park and it's really well taken care of no trash and stuff either.
Not sure what others in the reviews mean by “stunning” or “beautiful.” It’s definitely an interesting place worth checking out (as long as you don’t mind feeling like you’re being inducted into a Mormon cult of dark magic). Come here if you want to see some bizarre objects, not if you want a cute date or cool picnic spot or “fun” per se experience.
Phenomenal experience. Really boosted my testimony seeing this place double as a homeless shelter
I invite everyone to visit this gem in Utah. Take your kids too and explore this beautiful place.
Such an interesting and unique place right in the heart of down town. You would never know it's there unless you're told about it. It's small so its perfect for those that can't do a lot of walking but still want to get out and enjoy some culture and art.
You are in for an ecclectic treat when you visit Gilgal. I've known about this place for over 40 years. It's definitely gone through some renovation since the first time I went. Being right in the middle of the city, it's an oddity in and of itself, the tranquility and quiet there. Plan to take some time to read through the offered plaques and structures ... You'll walk away thinking you've either been on a religious trek or returned from some crazy persons tribute.
It's a cool place, if only it had descriptions of each statue, to get a better understanding of what the whole place is about. I like all the Scriptures, I could not figure out what some of the sculptures or statues, no description. Overall, really cool place
Haha I’m dying. Surprised people take this place seriously. I enjoyed it and would recommend. However I would warn them it’s weird and almost creepy. The guy I went with and I thought Joseph Smith as a Sphinx was particularly silly. It is quiet and pretty there as well. You have to go through an open gate between two houses, so it’s hard to see from the road. Very small place, so it will be a quick stop.
Lovely little place, tucked away on a side street.
Worth a visit, if you are at a loose end.
This is a fun little gem smack dab in the middle of busy downtown SLC. It offers a peaceful place for quiet contemplation in the middle of chaos. The sculptures are interesting and unlike anything anywhere else. There are fun pathways to walk on and everything about it was free. Free entry and a free guide to explain the significance of the sculptures.
Really unique and interesting place! Maps took us to the wrong side of the garden. But once we found the actual entrance it was a really cool experience. So many cool statues and a cool pamphlet to tell you all about it and guide you through!
Peaceful and beautiful park! I loved it! Dogs everywhere, running free with their human! Our dog didn't want to leave. We walked the whole entire place, got a workout out in! Parking sucks but it's not a dealbreaker.
It's a trip. So take the trip.
Lovely. The sculptor was very spiritual and most (if not all) of the engraved quotes are religious and in my opinion, beautifully chosen. I would love to go back, there's a sense of peace about this small sculpture garden.
A very unique place in Salt lake City very close to trolley square in the way well worth a visit plus it's free
Small quirky sculpture garden in midtown Salt Lake City. A fun quick visit.
Loved this free sculpture garden! Super unique sculptures! Make sure you grab a pamphlet before you walk through the garden. Pamphlet walks you through the story behind each sculpture
This is a very unique park to Salt Lake! The park features several paths and has a lot of history and symbols of the Bible and LDS church. It’s deep behind some houses and apartments so you feel so distant from all that city stuff.
Gilgal Garden is one of those weird local gems that keeps things interesting. It's a series of statues created by a somewhat eccentric man and then gifted to the city. It also has plenty of shade, beautiful flowers, and is a great place for a picnic.
Cool place! Lots to look at and think about. Very thought provoking art. Quiet and relaxing, went when all the flowers and trees were in springtime Bloom and it was really neat. Definitely worth checking out!
Nice sculptures. Good work
Certainly one of the most fascinating places in Salt Lake City! While some of the work may seem very odd to viewers, maybe especially to LDS viewers, it can also be seen as a beautiful expression of one man's faith. The more time I spent pondering the works, the more of the sculptor's faith I understood.
Give yourself time to read the scriptures that surround the works! You'll love it!
While I would not consider it a MUST SEE, it is free and in the middle of the city. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It’s a unique experience for sure. If you are in the area and have a few min to wander, I think it’s worth your time and stroll into the gates and give a look around.
Was only able to make a quick stop here. But enjoyed every minute of it. Would like to come back and read more of the inscriptions. Well worth a visit
I visited the garden last week for the first time. I grew up in SL and had heard about how strange the whole thing is, so I was prepared for its weirdness. It was morning and the dew was still on the grass and flowers and the gardens were beautiful (thanks to those who keep it up). The sculptures are out of the ordinary, but not necessarily in a negative way. There was no way I could have read all the words on all the stones, but I viewed them as a testimony of the sculpture. There were scriptures, words to the hymns and personal thoughts which I found uplifting. What an idelible and lasting way for him to express the beliefs of his heart. All in all, it was a very worthwhile experience!
Gilgal is a tiny place full of art. 70+ sculptures in one place. Lots of nature too. It is a must if you are around downtown.
This is a little gem that even Salt Lake natives aren't always familiar with. It's lovely in early spring and fall.
It's cool, lots of interesting rock formations, but there are homeless people obviously living on the premises. It's a small plot of land, worth 30-45 minutes of your time.
Quirky place! We were surprised to see, what appeared to be, transient individuals camped out here. Kinda strange considering the garden is supposed to be locked up at night. The individuals we had contact with were polite and talkative and the flowers were gorgeous
Fun free cultural experience.
If you want to check out a legitimately weird but fascinating little art park, Gilgal is a great choice. The sculptures are well crafted, if bizarre, interpretations of somewhat obscure scriptures and prophecies. I really like the dismembered pieces of a stone giant from Nebuchadnezzar's dream, and one of the most memorable pieces is a sphinx with the face of Joseph Smith. A real Salt Lake gem, for tourists and residents alike.
Nice little park surrounded by the city.
Really awesome hidden treasure!
I've lived in amd around SLC for 30 years and never been here. The masonry is very neat and the etching is amazing! It is very quiet and peaceful. Such a surprise in the middle od downtown. You have to enter from 5th south.
fun little park interesting sculptures
This place is freaky baby; a place I've never been until recently, after spending decades living in the valley. It's not well known and probably for good reason. It is very interesting in a weird way because from the casual observer, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but it is a shrine to Mormon scripture and culture to an extent. There are several statues, but the main ones are a very tall warrior with a normal rock for a head, the sphinx with what looks like Joseph Smith's head/face instead and Gilgal's statue as a centerpiece in the garden with brick pants. There are many types of rocks and carvings of rocks here. Some huge pieces of rose quartz, the biggest I've ever seen. 4 eagle statues along the side wall, intentionally broken statue of the giant from king Nebuchadnezzar's dream which was made of 4 metals, heads and other body parts in seemingly random places and scripture quotes literally everywhere, engraved in stones on the ground and elsewhere. It's very strange and eclectic visually and might have extra meaning for those with a lot of time and who are interested in reading them all. There is also a big covered work area in the back and envelopes in the front if you wish to make a tax-deductible contribution to the garden.
It was AWESOME. Check of one more on my bucket list
A bit hard to find for a tourist, and a bit of a letdown when we did. No real story about how or why it was created, and the sculptures, while creatively appealing, are not well interpreted. The day had perfect weather, and we got a bit of walking in, so not all was lost...
This place is a real hidden gem, I never would have known about it without someone "in the know" to take me there. The sculptors are just stunning, it's a great blessing that it was made into a public park. Hard to believe it was the work of one man.
Had a great time doing an online scavenger hunt of the many items on display. Amazing to see in what looks like a quiet residential area.
Definitely a unique place to visit! I wish there was more information about the pieces abs the garden. Also, super tiny, so if you're traveling just to see it, combine it with another activity.
I miss the days of sneaking over the back fence from the Chuck-a-Crapper parking lot w/ some beer for a make-out session in the Cave of Elijah, everything overgrown and in shadow...but the place still has soul even today. Without a doubt the most interesting publicly accessible spot of originality in SLC.
Interesting place to visit if you are in Salt Lake City. I'm not a fan of the theology, but the sculptures were creative and we had a nice time eating our picnic lunch in the gardens.
A fascinating little gem hidden in the heart of the city. A great place to go and think in the quiet as well as see many completed and u completed sculptures. The verse of scripture carved into stone are everywhere—it’s quite a sight!
Awesome place - you need to see it! There are times it is closed, but when the gates are open you can just walk in like a regular park. No admission fee, but donations are accepted for the group that keeps it maintained. Unique sculptures.
Neat little free sculpture garden, it goes by pretty quick but it’s definitely a unique addition to the downtown area. We visited Trolley Square afterwards without having to move our car. Not sure we’ll be back anytime soon but I’d definitely say it’s worth 30 minutes to check out what this guy created.
Such a fascinating gem here in the heart of Salt Lake. My wife isn't LDS but my mother is, and they both really enjoyed these exhibits. The grounds are kept up beautifully and every piece is incredibly unique.
Was great if you are looking to kill 20 minutes.
Cool little sculpture garden in salt lake, would reccomend if you're just walking around the neighborhood. Has a lot of religious symbolism. Wouldnt drive out of my way more than 5-10 minutes to see it though.
Interesting, quirky place to visit in Salt Lake to experience some eccentric Mormon folk art. It's a garden containing a variety of Mormon-themed sculptures and structures, the most distinctive being a rough-hewn Sphinx with Joseph Smith's head on a lion's body. The park was originally the artist's back yard, so it is small and you can see everything in a few minutes. It's fairly well maintained, but unfortunately you can see the effects of time and vandalism on the pieces.
It's just as quirky and interesting as I would've hoped! I felt like I was in a National Treasure movie for Mormons staring at these bizarre sculptures and trying to interpret the symbolism.
Among the sculptures are a Joseph Smith Sphinx, a giant stone warrior, and a very ugly little man. There are also scriptures carved on stones everywhere. And there's a stone listing all of the places in scriptures where altars/memorials were built. It's a fusion experience: seeing 19th century semi-modern motifs collide 4000 year old imagery and stories.
The park is also beautiful, and well-maintained. It is full of flowers, blossoming trees, birds, and bumblebees. Not much seating though.
This 'hidden' park is maybe worth a visit, but I can't say that I am dying to come back. There are sculptures highlighting aspects of Mormon culture that I am not privy to.
Unless you need to see Sphinx sculptures, you can safely avoid this park on your visit to SLC.
This place is super weird. An amateur sculptor expressing his belief of Bible and book of Mormon stories through bad sculptures. It's VERY entertaining. However; if you want to see the real Mormon history sites, visit temple square.
Google sculpture garden is an unquic place with some nice and sometimes interesting sculptures. Its in the heart of the south salt lake/salt lake area near trolley Square and if you didnt know it was there you could easily miss it. Once you get there you walk the whole thing in 5 minutes, longer if you stopped at everylittle thing and read every sign.
It is nice the layout and everything but if just know it's fairly small
Definitely a strange place. The statues are cool, however there are no explanations of what the statues are of or who made them, which is annoying. A very interesting place to visit if you are looking for places to visit.
Not much here. And the surroundings are not exactly serene
Unique historical info lies here. A look into the past. Late 1800 early 1900s Utah.. an interesting way to spend and hour or two admiring the many sculptures and scripters carved I to stone. Truly a work of art made by one man. A stone Mason as he would like to be referred.
Bizarre manifestation of LDS culture, but charming in its single-minded dedication to celebrating it in a unique way that took 20 years dedicated skilled labor to complete...
The pictures make it look much bigger than it really is. It's actually super small. Maybe if I was LDS it would have had more significance to me. Overall it was just ok. Nothing too special.
This is a cool little art environment. Even non mormons like myself can appreciate the symbols and strange representations of Christian scripture in this art environment. It's a nice, well kept garden and a cool piece of local history.
It was nice that this was free and fairly unique. There weren't any people in this park when we quickly stopped by. It's quite small and a bit underwhelming, though.
Wish it was bigger, yet it's still a very nice place.
Have loved this place for years! It has always been my "secret garden". I enjoy taking friends and family that have not even realized it existed.
Such a fun and unique place to stop off you have a few minutes in Salt Lake. A little hard to find as it is between two residential homes but just look for the black fence with the opening between them.
I found this to be very tranquil. I did enjoy the sculpture. There was a wonderful aroma from the flowers.
Very nice place to relax
It's a very small park, with some cool art. We took kids with us and they got bored quickly. Definitely a good place to wind down!
Weird and cool sculpture garden. It's a city park technically. It's small but full of life and personality. Fun place to visit and hang out.
Epic, legendary, unique, quintessentially Salt Lake City, Utah, hidden gem of weird wonder. A. Eccentrics labor of love and lasting legacy . The Joseph smith Sphinx is a must for your Instagram pic feed. I was almost reluctant to review as I think I’m the 667th review.
Nice garden with some benches but more unique than functional. Interesting place to visit if you have time to kill. Artist may appreciate it more than the average Joe.
This place is uniquely cool! I like how it's hidden and very peaceful. Plus stacking rocks is always fun
A creepy and surreal hidden gem that you'll never see driving by. You can tour it in about 15 minutes or less and it's well worth it.
This was a weird place to viait but in a fun way. It only took about ten minutes to see all the sculptures but because it's free it was perfect. We have told all of our families about how fun and weird this place is.
Cool. Place to go on tours
Fun place with some weird rock art. Very fun day activity.
It's quite an interesting art installation.
Nice Little Rock sculpture garden :)
Unusual stop which shows a bit of local mormon culture via the vision of an artist! 20 years ago kids would have to sneak in the middle of the night under the fence to see the surprise carved stone treasures in an overgrown garden, but now they've made an official park out of the area with regular morning hours and it is open to the public for free.
Strange but cool place. Pretty well hidden but worth it.
A very odd, eclectic, and fascinating park that's kinda hard to find. Once you do find it, you won't be disappointed.
The sculptures and time dedicated to make them, is astounding.
This place is so cool. I love what they have done to make it a park. 40 years ago, as a kid, I used to sneak through grandma's back gate and curiously inspect he handi-work of this master crafstman. My sibs and cousins and I spent hours here. I love the connection with the past AND the eternities here.
If you want a unique place to see in Salt Lake, this is it. Lots of quirky statues with interesting histories. Fun for little kids to climb around on too.
Strange little sculpture garden off the beaten path. Decent to stretch your legs but not somewhere to spend a lot of time. Kinda creepy vibes.
It's small, well kept lawns and flowers, sculptures are interesting, world's largest bird house too. Some homeless folks sleeping on the lawns was a little off-putting.
I always enjoy visiting the gilgale gardens it's very eccentric and beautifully kept. The volunteers and friends of Gilgale gardens are doing a wonderful job maintaining this little Park.
Beautiful stone art and beautiful flowers
Cool place! Please adopt the little kitten that seems to be living there! #cat #kitten
Enchanting collection of sculptures in a hidden part of SLC. Plenty of shade to sit in to enjoy the ambiance. The volunteers take really great care of this little gem.
Nice peaceful place
So cool amazing garden
For a small park it’s has a lot to show and express.
A very small garden, not much to see. If you are passing by it, you can stop for 5mins.
Im not religious, but this is a pretty cool park. This place is a little hidden gem in the middle of SLC. Lots of trees so there's plenty of shade to have a picnic in.
This was a very interesting park to visit. Very essentric! It was very cold and windy the day I went. I have lived here, in the valley all my life and had no idea this existed. I have told a few people about this place.
Just another SLC gem that I'd never heard of until a local friend showed me. Ita a great place to take a book and read, or walk around with a coffee in hand reading all the scripture!
This quaint and unique park is a must see in SLC. The art pieces range from a Joseph Smith sphinx to a headless soldier statue. Free and fun. Also, it's just down the road from a delicious artesian fountain.
Cool little resting place
It was a wonderfully bizarre place and I highly recommend seeing this garden!
Lots of stone work of various Oddities and shapes representing various things from the Mormon church to Engravings on stones of scripture. A very interesting perspective. Be sure to check out the 360 pictures I posted.
Interesting place with sculptures in a neighborhood. Unless you pick up the literature one has no idea what anything is about. There’s no signage.
What a great little Park hidden in downtown very cool sculptures not very big but very pleasant and quiet nice place to sit and relax definitely recommend to go to wish it was a little bigger though
No review can do this place justice, you really have to see it for yourself! Visit multiple times if you can, there's always something new to experience.
We brought the kids to the Gilgal Garden. It's really interesting and at times strange, but a great whimsical place with a ton of character. A fun place to visit if you're in town.
Awesome place to visit. Nice and peaceful. Very well maintained and lots of beautiful flowers. Great work by an extraordinary artist. Free to the public.
We liked it. It has a very LDS theme. Unique.
Confusing to get to (it's on the north side of the street - Google Map will lead you to the back gate).
Interesting sculpture garden in the city. Salt Lake City Master gardeners volunteer project. Winter visit nothing in bloom yet. Relaxing place to come sit and enjoy the moment
Beautiful stone art work
Very inspiring! I would love to add too it without touching the original one
Maybe a small piece of connected land
Creepy and weird sculptures mixed with beautiful landscaping. Tons of Mormon quotes engraved into stepping stones, a sphinx with Joseph Smith's head, and plenty of other Mormon related things await visitors.
Such cool sculptures. Love this place!
Nice small hidden park. Not crowded at all. Sculptures are weird, to say the least.
This little local park is a great stop if your looking for some SLC sites. There is plenty of parking near by and you can get a few interesting photos. #localguide
On the list of 100 places to visit in Salt Lake City. Enter from 500 South. Interesting memorial to a family. Its worth a walk through.
Cool, weird place..if you can get in. We went there on a Saturday around noon and the gates were locked. Bummed me out because I live out of state and really wanted to show my friend how cool this place is.
It was a hidden gem can’t wait to take some and visit it to see what they th k and feel about it!
I found peace walking around, even though there was construction going around the park. I invite anyone to visit. There are summer and winter hours posted. I will go back during the spring and summer to capture different faces of the park.
A wonderfully quirky and fun. Easy to access and not crowded. You can see it all in about an hour and do lots of details in an hour and a half.
Gilgal is a good place to just chill and walk around. It has really cool art and scriptures carved into rocks. A little oasis in the middle of the city.
How I've lived here my whole life and never knew if this place is crazy. So very cool and worth a visit.
Fun little park. I have been to SLC countless times and never knew about it. Load the website on your phone to use as a guide while you're there. I didn't and had a hard time wrapping my mind around what I was seeing.
I love this place! It is truly very artistic strange and interesting all in one I highly recommend going here it is fantastic and the story behind it is so interesting check it out
Great place to hear the birds sing, one of salt lakes little hidden gems
A great place to spend a half an hour. Unique art, very mysterious. You can find out the meaning behind the sculptures on the website which is very useful.
Weird little hidden park with some esoteric religious sculptures. I'll never understand the true meaning of the place, but that just adds to the appeal.
Weird but cool. Wiki the park to learn it's history. Wish it had some description about what each piece of Art meant to the artist.
Such a weird place. Clearly the artist was passionate about his beliefs, and I admire that.
Not as big as I thought but beautiful
A very unique Garden. Can take time if you read through all of the sculpture descriptions. Can take just a few minutes if you are only interested in looking at the art
Informative sculpture garden including a Joseph Smith Sphinx. Tucked Away in a quiet neighborhood on the east side, well worth a visit. free admission
This is an odd park of strange sculptures. It is worth going if you are close by. The main feature is Gilgals self portrait wearing brick pants. And the second major feature is Joseph Smith as a Sphinx
Great park hidden in a neighborhood. Really enjoyed reading the history and scriptural basis behind it. Great detail in the sculptures
Love this place. A peaceful stop in the busy city. A bizarre, beautiful, thought provoking artistic exploration of a man's faith.
Not as interesting as I expected. Park maintenance should be better.
Free admission and two hours free parking on the street.
Not many people know about this place- it is worth a visit. Take time to read all about the restoration of the park and the man who created it
Strange remains of salt lake history. Good landscaping, good place for a picnic, a stroll, or for Pokemon go. Nice little park in the city.
I like taking friends who are visiting SLC here to help them explore what brand of weird but interesting is in the populace here. Garden itself is well maintained and a lovely visit.
In case you needed any more proof towards the insanity of the Mormon religion and its followers. This place is a monument to everything the religion borrowed from free masonry and the zealot-like commitment demanded of its members.
Free to enter. Interesting little ode to Mormon, prominent leaders and masonry symbols everywhere. Funky little park and worth a visit when in the neighborhood.
Strange sculptures
Very cool thing to see.. and it's free!! I'd give it 5 stars, but having to walk around the homeless sleeping guy really creeped me out.
Lovely small park in the middle of buildings. A quiet park with beautiful flowers and small walk paths.
I love this place and it’s Bible themed sculptures. 😃 …
You know I'm not going to give this place 5 stars because It isnt something to do back flips over but every Salt Lake resident needs to come visit atleast once. It will for sure make you go "whaaa?"
One of the most fun things in this city - check it out!
Pretty rocks and sculptures and flowers, easy 5 min walk around whole park...
When I need to ground myself, I find my way there. The sense of reverence and respect blanket the hard work left behind~ but the feeling of peace is truly magical.
Fun little park with sculptures carved by an LDS Bishop in the 50"s. LDS themed statues and stones. Kids liked it.
Worth seeing if you are nearby
So serene, great place to visit!
Interesting sculptures. Extremely tiny park that can easily be missed as it is located between 2 residential houses.
Some neat sculptures here but a very quick stop.
Mystical place where at one time masonry met Mormon mystisism. Totally worth a trip for a look at sculpture, history and inspiration.
Absolutely love this hidden little park, the statues and information on everything is great. The big bird house was my favorite
A small hidden garden with various sculptures and scripture carvings. The gardens are colorful.
5-10min stroll just to look at some outdoor art
I couldn't see the entrance so I took some photos to help the next
Beautiful little garden nestled behind several houses in downtown SLC with some interesting sculptures. Great for a nice stroll!
Very inspiring - amazing pieces of work. Recommend using the interactive map when viewing the sculptures.
Nice place – almost hidden in a residential neighborhood – for a quick little stroll to see some Mormon themed statuary. Nicely done pieces.
Neat little hidden gem
Really unique I'm just not religious so I'm not sure I understand all of it but it's super neat!
This is quite an eclectic collection of sculptures, but I found it fascinating and strangely weird at the same time. Definitely a must see!!
If you're near downtown this is a crazy, interesting little detour hidden in the middle of everything. Fun, funky little park.
Would totally recommend stopping here. Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. If ever in salt lake city plan a stop I could of stayed there all day
A fun short stop that's free.
Very unique and interesting. I have been several times. I enjoy seeing artists interpretation of things.
Not as many statues as I would have liked, what art they do have is VERY religious, still it was a fun place to go
Awesome sculptures
Difficult to find but a nice little place to spend 15-20 minutes. It's right at the center of a neighborhood.
Very interesting place to visit. Definitely, a nice little stroll.
Very interesting! Strange attraction just sitting in a backyard.
Nice little park. Love all the scriptures written everywhere and the art is interesting. I mainly went to see the Joseph Smith sphinx
Gilgal Gardens is, without a doubt, the Sistine Chapel of Mormon quirkiness. Whether you consider Joseph Smith an ingenious knave or prophet of the Restoration, Gilgal should not be missed!
Always a really pleasant place to sit and enjoy a bit of nature right in the middle of Salt Lake
One of my favorite gardens. So peaceful. Faith promoting.
SO trippy and fun. A hidden gem
This is a really cool out of the way place that is great to visit. Really interesting awesome art structures.
Weird and wonderful, it's worth a visit if you happen to be nearby.
I love history and landmarks, this place is definitely a hidden gem in SLC, parking is available on street 2 hours max and free.
What a strange and unique Utah experience. I grew up here and didn't know about this until adulthood. What a cool find
Small and intriguing little topiary garden. Definitely worth the short amount of time it takes to admire all of the oddities like the Joseph Smith sphinx.
Pretty cool for a free place to wander around. The statues are weird but that's what makes it neat
Cool little find in downtown Salt Lake. It was smaller than I was led to believe, but it's a neat and odd little place to find yourself for 15-30 minutes.
Unique Rock body parts everywhere. Very unique and unlike any other place I've ever seen!
I never knew seeing Joseph Smith's face on sphinx would improve my life's quality. 5 stars.
It was hard to find but was fun to see. We were hyped and it def didnt live up to it but was worth it
Interesting collection of eclectic sculpture and engraving. Definitely worth a visit when you’re in the neighborhood.
Weird but free.. Don't go out of your way. The artist died a long time ago and I believe it is only his artwork so it's a little old.
This is a hidden treasure. It's a great place to explore on a warm day or even a cold one. Highly recommend searching it out!
When I'm here it feels like I'm in an altered reality. This is a truly eclectic place. I can't really describe it. You have to see it for yourself.
Very interesting place. Was there by myself to just look around and enjoy.
Great place to go to get away from everything. It's like a museum but outside and costs nothing.
It's free so I can't complain that it was a very short visit. 30 minutes tops. Ample parking on the street.
Not a bad place. Good sculpture and interesting history, but it is small, and maybe not so extraordinary still.
Beautiful and inspiring sculpture garden that begs you to ponder.
Whoa, what a treasure. I learned everything I know about Mormonism here. People are always talking about Joseph Smith, but the real prophet is clearly Gilgal.
The art is interesting, and sometimes creepy, definitely some inspiration hiding in this little piece of urban display.
Very random/weird park that is in the middle of a residential area near Trolley Square. I wouldn't say this is a must-see but if you're in the neighborhood, might as well check it out. Spent about 10 minutes here which was plenty of time to see everything.
Raw blasphemy! Absolutely delightful. If you like very old, very big boulders, beautiful and unique rock faces, you need to go.
Are you looking for a place to play ..... Well this is the place to game .... Great staff and great fun...!
Thought this would be bigger, there are only a few sculptures and it’s all religious; which I have nothing against, the name just implies that the main attraction is the art
It was great there but it was a little confused out there. Good to get your kids there.
Interesting, different spiritual themed rock sculptures. Off the beaten path garden . Worth a look.
Small place but beatiful...every statue has a history and story to tell.
It was cool looking and pretty but very small. I enjoyed it though. :)
Very interesting and unique place to visit! Beautiful flowers and cool sculptures!
Super interesting, but kind of weird places to go. It's worth a visit.
Eccentric yet artsy. Mormon art the likes of which you won't find eksewhere. A quiet little nook.
