Reviews of Quarry Run Dog Park
I'm no expert on the format, but Quarry Run Dog Park is simply the BEST dog park experience my dogs and I have ever had.
It's incredible to have such a large and fenced-in space available; that it feels like having an off-leash hike in a state park was just pure joy for both me and my pups. Then I learned it's a repurposed landfill, and I must say that I am both impressed with the creativity for urban reuse and with a city capable of making those long term choices.
Good on you, Mainers, for this lovely spot and inspiration for future urban design.
Lots of space for your pups to run and fully fenced in if you stick to the park itself. It's usually plenty busy for your pups to play with others. If you go to the right, there is a bit of incline on a mountain type terrain. If you want to avoid that type of hiking, head straight to stick to the path and as you follow that trail to the left there will be a clearing that dogs love to play in. A small shelter is available with benches for a break. If you have a more timid pup, turn left at the gate follow the trail over a tiny bridge. Just beyond that you will come to a more private fenced in area where your pup can have some off leash training.
The park is one big figure 8 trail, all trails will lead you back. There are dog bowls throughout, just bring your own water. I believe poop bags are available, but we pack some so I can't be 100% sure. Trash can is available for waste.
People are nice so say Hi!
Large, fenced-in, wooded and hilly/rocky park. A new dog family coming and going every few minutes on a Saturday morning. As far as I can tell, folks pick up after themselves.
My friendly, high-energy pup found the spaces to run and friends to meet plentiful.
A covered picnic table is a nice feature, unless folks with less friendly, more protective pups decide to camp there. And continue to stay after this behavior is exhibited.
Great place for pups to run and play while fenced in. Not a super high fence if you have a jumper. No water on site, so pack accordingly. Remember that other dogs can be toy aggressive, so please leave toys in the car. It makes for a safer environment for all ❣️
Amazing place! Really big dog park with trails and plenty of space. This is one of the most unique parks I've been to and will definitely be back. The fenced in area gives plenty of room to run and interactions between dogs and their owners was very positive. This is not your typical park with flat ground. It is hilly with plenty of trees and vegetation to give a dynamic feel depending on the area you choose to roam. A word of caution: my dog cleared the low fence in one jump so keep an eye out if there are incoming or outgoing dogs.
Great dog park, very large and fenced in all the way around. Has a smaller fenced in area inside for training, etc. Has a mix of woods and an open play area on top of one of the hills. My dog loves it! Parking is sometimes a challenge on busy days. Watch out for potholes on the road, which is dirt. Easy to miss; look for the "park hours" sign. Has a trash can there. Wear boots! Most people wear masks. The entrance is double gated to make sure no one escapes. All kinds of dogs come; puppies, great danes, chihuahuas, huskies, and every breed in between. My dog always has a good time!
I can't give this place enough stars. It's a huge park sporting a main dog park with loads of space to run around. There's also a separate safe fenced in spot for puppies to play. Further up is a trail that circles back around. It has multiple trails branching off it if you want a bit of adventure.
Great dog park, there is a big clear area where dogs can meet and play, there is also a fenced in wooded area for dogs who get overwhelmed in large play groups and would rather run around the trees with a few dogs. A separate "small dog" area out of visual range is fantastic too and reduces the chance of developing restraint aggression. There are convenient walking trails outside of the park if your dog needs a "cool off" between socialising.
Love this park! Dogs here, yet with so much acreage you can have a nice quiet walk on a beautiful day. I love that it's completely fenced in..worth it to travel for that alone for a rambunctious almost 2 year old mountain cur and it brings out the puppy in my 6 year old who ADORES being out. Bring a lunch and pack the car you won't be disappointed!
Portland is really lucky to have some great dog parks. We really liked the layout of this one in that it’s a small trail system but safely fenced off. The shelter with seats and water bowls is a great touch too.
I could explain why I love this place but it's about how much my baby girl pitbull likes it.... She has been to many dog parks from pleasant point to CARIBOU down tha bangor over to Thomaston all the way back in LEWISTON, and the only one she is never ready to leave is Quarry Run!! She just loves the layout of the place. So we get there about 4 times a month, this because I am all over the state.. First I take her for the walk around the solar panels, and she lays in a couple of the puddles as she gets heated fast. She is a bit overweight , this do to having had many litters early on... Now that she is with me she can forgget about HAVING TO BE CASH DOG... MY LITTLE MEATBALL HA HA
A perfect urban dog park. Meander, then hang out at the gathering place (there's a shelter!). Expect to pick burrs out of your buddy's fur. We need to get rid of those plants, ow. Anyway, folks are nice (not snobs) and dogs are dogs.
Such a cool dog park. The nice open format in the woods and completely enclosed. There is another enclosed section of the park that could be used for training or other activities where the large open format may not be ideal. People are pretty friendly and courteous here, but it is a bit of a free for all and gets busy in the afternoon with dozens of dogs off leash, be careful if your dog might be overwhelmed by this situation.
We love coming here. There is lots of rooms to exercise and fenced in.
Great off-leash park! Our girls had so much fun running around and exploring. We didn't notice any left behind poo, and there were bowls of water in a few different locations. All dogs and owners were very friendly.
It was a good spot to walk in the shade with the pups on a hot day. Nice parking situation, decent trails…it’s just a small loop and it’s meant for a short walk.
Tons of space for you and your furkids to go exploring! It was super icy, but we made the best of it!!!
My dog says 4 paws up! Huge enclosed area with actual terrain (trees, rocks hills), paths, and foot bridge. Inside the fenced in area there is another smaller fenced in area the size of a regular city dog park. Outside the enclosed area there are trails that are great for off leash (as long as your dog has some level of recall) and a break from the other dogs.
We took our dog here during a trip to Portland. She's a rescue dog who lives in a big city, so she's never seen anything like this before. Absolutely the best dog park I've ever seen. Plenty of space for dogs to play together, chase each other, and most importantly get out of each other's way if necessary.
All the owners we met there were friendly and responsible, keeping an eye on their dogs and picking up after them. Our dog doesn't like city dog parks because the dog politics get too tense in a small space, but here she was on cloud nine! We will be back!
We always stop here on our trips to Maine So much fun for our pups and nothing else like it where we are!
Absolutely 100% fenced in! Never had a problem with dog fights here, and my dog loves being able to climb the rocks and jump over logs like she's in the wild! Tends to get very muddy or slushy, though.
Only dog park I've been to in Portland, but it's a great place for four legged pal meetups and exercise. Nice walk for the humans, too
Great place but there was 1 owner of a dog that wasn't the best. Her dog got mine pretty good twice at that. I would've thought they'd put him on a leash after the first time, guess not. Limped for an hour or 2 after but is fine now. Mostly great people and even though my dog got hurt she had lots of fun after! Great trails and lots of water bowls!
Every community is better when it has lovely dog parks like this. Over a couple acres, there are some sprawling and woodsy trails, as well as a couple of open spaces, with shelter and plenty of shading. The only thing missing is running water, so be sure to bring some water on a hot day.
What an amazing place! A huge, beautiful, off leash area with lots of trails through woods and clearings. Very well maintained and now a must for us when we are near Portland.
1st time going there was a great experience for not only my dog but me as well. I put off going there because my dog was a little puppy and I was afraid of losing him. I asked myself 1000 questions to prepare myself and worked hard to train the puppy to come when called. We get there and as we kept walking my anxiety dissipated quickly seeing all thr happy dogs and dog parents. We quickly acclimated to the environment and enjoyed every moment. Not only does it have amazing dogs and great humans, it also gives you the feeling of being in the country woods. Oasis in the city that you cant tell is in the city. Completely fenced in (which is what I was questioning) how can it have so many wooded areas AND be fenced in..well I assure you, it can. They also have trails you can walk but baby steps for puppy. We will work up to it.
absolutely amazing dog park ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
HUGE & completely fenced. clean. plenty of parking. friendly dogs & owners.
The pups and I always have a good experience at the dog parks.
Great little mountainy woodland dog run with safe fencing so dogs stay in.
Roscoe and I absolutely love this park. From the park inside the fence to the loop trail out back. Just be sure to pick up after your dog please.
Best dog park I’ve ever been to! There’s a large figure 8 loop that will take you through woods on one hill and a dog play area at the top of the other hill. Dogs can explore to their hearts’ content.
No running water, so bring your own jug.
Traveling, I've been to trails and dog parks in many states. This the first I've seen such a dog park concept, great idea. Location is great, my dogs couldn't get enough of treeing squirrels in-between the trail paths to groups of dogs running and playing.
Such fun for your dog! Lots to explore and there's usually a good crowd of pups to play with. Some people don't pick up after their dogs but you'll find that at any dog park. The park is well maintained, with paths mostly patted down from foot or paw traffic after snowstorms, which makes for easy walking. And there's always extra poop bags on hand!
Good spot to get your dogs off leash and running around
This is a great dog park. There is a short fence that surrounds a huge area for dogs run around with short trails that lead up a hill to an open play area. Highly recommend! It is like a mini hike and with your dog off leash.
A wonderful place to take your dogs for a fenced in off leash walk. People are very mindful of picking up after their dogs and the various trails take you through the woods.
We were on vacation and after 4 hours in the car we wanted to stop and let our pup run around for a bit. After a quick google search we ended up pulling off the highway and stopping here- WOW. The best dog park I've ever been to! Huge fenced in area with trails and a large play area. Highly recommend
I just went here for the first time today with my border collie mix and it was wonderful. I've been looking forward to going for a while and it did not disappoint in any way. All the dogs were so happy, great people there, great dogs, all around awesome.
Me and my dogs love quarry run dog park. They always know when we're getting close and start to get excited. Understandably so this place has awesome terrain and trails for exploring and chasing.
This place is huge. We rolled up to this place and didn't see any dogs, not knowing how expansive it was. There is a wooded trail up to the top (only takes a few minutes) clearing where the dogs play. There is a shelter at the top for dog owners to drop their stuff as well as a garbage for poop. Just make sure to bring water. This is a great place for trying to teach your dog to walk trails unleashed but still have the peace of mind of being fenced in.
This is a great place for dogs to run off leash and socialize with other dogs. Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and their dogs were well behaved. There's a path you can follow once you enter the gate from the parking area and on the back side near the road there's a smaller fenced in area of you'd like a little privacy away from all the other dogs. Be prepared for some low spots on the fenceline and lots and lots of mud on the property during the wet season.
Great set up..there is large fenced off areas where the dogs can roam free (supervised,)and play off leach. Lots of pathways to explore.🤩❤️ …
Great place to bring your dog for some socialization and off leash running. There aren't too many rules here but occasionally I'll run into someone bringing a puppy that's too young. Some dog parents are more aware than others but for the most part it's a nice bunch of people that show up.
I love this place! The dogs love it, they can run, explore and communicate with their pals.
However I’m trying to figure out what is with the construction and the large utility trucks going up and down the access roads.
They are fairly narrow roads for such large vehicles and if you happen to be in the path of one it is very difficult to pass.
That happened to me today and it was nerve racking with my dog considerably ahead of me, because he was off leash, and the driver may have been under a time constraint, following very close behind me. Has anyone had this experience?
This is an amazing place for our dog to get plenty of space to run and sniff while playing with others off leash. It is nice that we had the chance to walk on the trails as well!
Not your typical dog park. Quarry run dog park is a large area of wooded land with walking paths, a picnic area for your pup, a field area for playing fetch and plenty of woods and walking paths for a safe environment for you and your pooch.
Located just out of City limits this is not your typical dog park. The area is vast and spacious area safe for off an off leash experience (assuming your dog comes when called. The area is large enough for them to get lost!).
There are also a number of on leash walking trails surrounding the area through the old Portland landfill.
Great terrain to exercise doggies and their owners. All paths lead uphill, some easier than others. At the top is a roofed slab with tables and dishes and water in big jugs (thank you!!! Whoever started doing that, my heroes!!!) I have found that lately the owners and dogs have been very playful but mellow and respectful :) no more mosquitoes now that it's early fall, perfect time of year to come!
This is the best dog park I've ever gone to. It's basically in a forest with enough open space that you can let your dog do their own thing and not need to worry. It's so big compared to everywhere else I've ever been. I loved it and next time I'm up in Maine, I'll definitely go back.
My dog loved it. There was snow on the ground, which he loves (Chihuahua - who woulda think it). We stayed just inside the fence with about 8 other dogs. They all played and ran - no incidents. All the dogs were bigger than Stewie, but he loved it!!!
Great area for dogs! The loop around is always a favorite for my pup and I...we go through the trails and he splashes in the small streams! Love love love...but please, pick up after your dogs ❤️ 💩 There is no poop fairy …
So happy I discovered this place recently. I've been to a lot of dog parks but this one is definitely my favorite. It's really open and fenced in. My dogs really love to run in the woods rather than just in an open field park, so this is perfect.
Best dog park I’ve ever been to. Place is huge and has plenty of territory where the dogs go wild and the humans are at bay. Allows the dogs to get crazy without running off. Has the feel as though it weren’t fenced in. Jurassic Park 🐕 …
This is my favorite place to bring Ella off leash. It's out of Portland far enough to be considered a hidden gem and keep my mind at ease as far as cars go. There are several very friendly regulars who go early like Ella and I do, sometimes we even have play dates with the pups! Stop on by, you'll be impressed and pleasantly surprised, I hope!
Great OFF leash dog park. Friendly ppl and dogs
A good time for sure
Walk the trails or let your furry friend run and play in the large open area. Poop bags and water are plentiful usually
Portland’s premier, fully enclosed dog park. Friendly people and friendly dogs. Noon, on any given day, is the ideal time to visit as their will be plenty of pupsters.
If your dog is friendly, under voice control, and has good recall, try the trails behind the dog park. They're maintained by Portland Trails and are beautiful. You can easily do a three mile hike through the area, more if you choose too. A GPS mapping program is helpful to find your way around the woods.
A really fun dog park. It’s a huge space. Don’t go if you’re worried about your dog getting out of sight. Usually pretty busy which is great.
WOW 🤩 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ There were 3-4 paths that led to the top of the hill where all the action was. It was literally like being in a dog heaven. They all got along. There was plenty of room for them to run. This is our new favorite spot! …
A lot of space for dogs to run around and play. I also really enjoy the path around the park. Also fenced in but does not look so because of the trees and open platform. Very fun every time we've gone.
Lots of forested land fenced in so your pups can run around, play, and explore. We loved this dog park while we lived in Portland. Probably the best dog park we've ever been to
All three of my boys had a great time. Our puppy is down for the count. Highly recommend 👌 …
A wonderful wooded dog park where it's hard to tell you are even fenced in! There are couple of trails to explore and an open common space for dogs to meet up and play, with covered benches. There is also a smaller fenced in area for small dogs. Overall my Corgi loved it and I enjoyed it as well. Best dog park in Portland!
In response to Glenn Porter: The levels of dog waste left by owners is not overwhelming and was no more than Ive seen at any other dog parks and there was no discernible odor. it smelled like the woods to me.
First time visiting. It's a large park with plenty of hilly, wooded terrain for dogs to run an romp. Clearing at the top of the hill for throwing balls. It can be muddy. Definitely will bring the dog back.
It is a pretty good size with lots of running and sniffing of things. Plus my dog likes it too. It is like a theme park for dogs.
I have enjoyed the dog park in the past with other dogs I have had. This time it made me nervous because the dog I have now is a leaper. There is a section of the fence near the entrance which is very low. I worried that he could easily jump it if something caught his attention on the other side.
Huge space that is totally fenced in.. makes the dog feel free and the helicopter mom feel confident. I go early in the morning 7 ish and never see other dogs.. heard it can get busy though
This was my first time at such a HUGE dog park. The park itself is nice I just think having such a huge space made it difficult to watch my pup.
Super fun!!! Our puppy loved it very friendly dogs and people.. we'll be going back soon ❤️
Don't have a dog but visited with friends. Dogs had a great time! Huge property with woods and smaller enclosed places.
So different from the usual park. It's a wooded park with trails and yes, a central play area. Loved it
In closed fenced area so dogs can socialize and run free. The walking trail around the upper level is for off road bicycles, cross country skiing, walking, running. dogs can be on or off leash depending on your control with voice commands. That is approx 1.5 mile loop.
10 acre dog park, need I say more? Dogs can run through the woods or hang out in the central area with other dogs. Owners are shamed I to taking out their own trash. Great!
It can be very dirty, depends on the time of year. Some people will not keep an eye on their dogs either, aggressive dogs at that! I prefer to walk the big loop rather than hang out up top by the bench and covering, way too many dogs
This dog park is incredible. It's absolutely huge, people seem to have common sense about dog behavior, and was just an overall great day that tired out the pups!
Best dog park I've ever been to. I love that there are trails and wooded areas. All the dogs we've met have been friendly and well behaved.
A great place to let a dog off leash. Great group of regulars who take care of the place. Has walking trails and a large area that is fenced in to let you dog walk and play with others.
Nice big fenced park with paths and a big open area on top of the hill. Includes a smaller fenced area at the North East corner of the park for tiny dogs or introductions. Can be icy in inclement weather.
Such a fantastic experience with so much space fenced in. Met very nice people with great dogs and our two puppers couldn't have been happier.
Never have a problem with other dogs. The people that are there ate always kind and respectful. Plus this place is huge. Plenty of room for our loves top run about
Love this place! Perfect spot to let my dog run free! Never had any issues with other dogs or people, also upkeep is good, highly recommend
Fenced in woods where dogs get to run wild. There are a couple clearings where people/dog chill. I would caution people with aggressive dogs to be careful, it would be easy for you to low sight of them with dogs all around.
Nice large dog park more of a wooded area that's fence in than your typical plot of grass with a chain link fence. Friendly people and great dogs
Great dog park. Very large, fenced in, and ample trails and paths for off leash fun.
Wonderful dog park with trails going around to the top of the hill. The dogs loved it so much they didn't want to leave.
A nice and close to Portland place to jog or walk with your dog around a big hilly loop. Has a good size fenced in area to let them run around too.
Wow what an Amazing space!
Love wooded parks with multiple play areas and trails! Dogs had a great time!
Love this place but my dogs are not all that dog friendly so it was much easier to take them to the gated off small dog area when there was an entrance near it and we didn't have to walk through the park.
We have 2 dogs that just love going to this place. Lots of room to run and fully fenced in. There's always a large group of dogs.
Love it! Minus the mosquitoes... It's a great dog park! Many trails, very large, logs for dogs to do!
Pawsitively sure this is Cooper's favorite dog park. He always gets to meet a few fellow canines every visit! All fenced in too! Just remember to bring water!
Great place to let your dog run free! Spacious park with a few trail offshoots. Highly recommended!
Best dog park in the area. Tons of space and places for dogs to run, actual terrain as well.
Great fenced in dog park. Wear mucky boots and clothes, especially during mud season. During the winter it can be very slick on the trails.
Fun dog run with a walking trail and nice foresty chunks for dogs to explore and dig in. Seating area for humans. My dog had a blast.
I hope NYC had this kind of huge fenced dog park!
Easily one of my favorite places to run in the area. Everyone is super friendly and the trails just keep going as they are a part of an awesome section of the Portland trails.
Awesome place to take the dogs to burn off some energy and walk trails. Nice alternative to the standard dog park field.
Awesome place for the pups to run in an enclosed area.
Awesome dog park with little trails. Perfect place to let the dog run free
This dog park is awesome and HUGE! A lot of fun for the dogs especially since it's so intertwined with woods.
Large dog park with trails and open areas for dogs to play together
Coolest dog park I've ever seen in my life
7 acres of fenced in woods, trails and play areas. 22 more acres of fields and trails connecting to Portland Trail system. Friendly dogs and people.
Great dog park always plenty of dogs!
Great space. Fences aren't high enough to keep dogs, including my own, from jumping over if they see a critter to chase.
What an awesome place to take your dog! Clean, comfortable, easy access and a great place for your dog to mingle and be free.
A lovely bit of woods with trails, swamps and tons of space for dogs and people to walk in and enjoy nature. Bring your bug spray :-)
Large nice area, fully fenced - let's my dog with poor listening skills run free. (He's leashed everywhere else.)
Huge area. Always lots of dogs around. Fenced in. Most people clean up after themselves. Poop bags are at the entrance in case you forgot yours
My kids love that it's a combination dog park and hiking trails, so they can explore as well as play.
My dog loves it. Lots of room for them to run.
Great Place! Griffins favorite place!
What a cool dog park. My husky loved that it's in the woods and other dog owners were very nice to chat with
Wonderful place for dogs to safely run and play in a natural environment,
Fantastic, clean, open space for your fur children to socialize and play.
Nice place in the winter in the spring the snow melt makes it hard to have your dog play without coming home looking like they went swimming.
Great park for bigger dogs to run and play with trails for exploring.
Great place, great atmosphere, all types of terrain for dogs.
Good busy spot for dog play time.
Large enough and fenced in.
Best dog park in Portland.Great dogs, clean, people are cool as well. Always fun
If your dog is small be mindful they may be able to fit through some of the fencing.
Great place to exercise your dogs and to meet other dog lovers ❤
Always fun! Nice to have a dog park that is totally fenced in!
Big fenced in park with a small dog section, a teepee and lots of trails in/around it.
5 stars from a happy hound
Great dog park! Friendly people, accessible parking.
I bring Nena here on trips to Maine. Fully fenced off-leash woods is great to break up the drive
Great park! So much to explore. Dog and kids loved it!
It's a very friendly dog park. Been going for 5 yrs. Now. And is very clean!!!!
Great park. Lots of room for dogs to run.
Great place gor my dog to run around, some of the fencing seems to be coming down.
Our chocolate lab who's 7-months-old loved it
The Quarry Run is the best dog park around! We love going there!
Great facility, wonderful staff. Shampoo provided is less than optimum.
Our pup comes home exhausted after playing with all the dogs on it's fenced in trails.
Great park with friendly dogs and nice people.
Great open fenced in place awesome for dogs of all sizes.
Beautiful park to bring your dog for a day out.
Best dog park ever, especially the off-leash loop behind the fenced-in park.
Great place to let your furry friends run off leash.
Love walking the loop. Fenced park is great too. Can get crowded on the weekends
Great place for the dogs to run, just wish it wasn't so gravely.
Great place, trails, hills, fun
My puppy love the open space to run and meet other dogs.
Fun busy sunny exercise day...lotsa pup friends.
I love that the whole thing is fenced in, my dog can run without me worrying.
Great park with great dogs!!
Lots of places to walk around with your dog both inside and outside a fence
Open space & lots of shade. Bring a gallon of water to share, no running water inside, lots of bowls there.
This place is amazing! Tons of room to run around
If taking my dog there for years great spot to go.
Great for the dogs to run.

Great place to visit with your dog. Little muddy right now

Best dog park I’ve ever been to, hands down
Beautiful dog park! Fenced in woods with lots of areas for pups to run and explore. Was there in the middle of the week in the morning and there were other puppy friends for my dog to play with. Some areas that are shaded have stayed a bit icy. Pack in your own water.
