Reviews of Oxbow Regional Park
Peaceful. Whenever I go there is a lack of people and an abundance of nature. The restrooms are well maintained and parking is easy.
✨ very accessible for my special needs child. With an easy natural slope, walking to the beach was easy for him. Lots of open space for him to be him, without even disturbing the birds. Life jackets stations are a plus.✨
It was a nice park, plenty of picnic areas, restrooms were clean, the shower stalls roomy and free. They also had water jugs for drinking outside of the restrooms. The rangers were very welcoming and helpful. We camped over but there was day use areas. The river was a short walk away perfect for floating and paddle boarding.
The best river beach I've been to in the Portland area. Very busy on the weekends, but enough parking that we were able to find a space, and more than enough beach and nice shade. Beautiful water, good for a swim! I'll be back as often as I can.
Plenty of room to roam around and explore the woods and river. We went for a brief visit, and got a surprise sleet storm, so didn't get to explore as much as we wanted, but will definitely be coming back soon with the fly rods and to do some hiking.
So much to see! Both along the way and when you get to the main area. Great for day use and overnight camping! Beautiful area for walking along the river, fishing and swimming!
Great park! Easy access and lots of parking. You can hike or hang out on the water. Last time I went they even had a water dispenser right before we went down to the river. Stay hydrated!!
The boat launch area is a great place for both kids & adults . Minimal shade. Close parking , free life jackets , restrooms are clean . Highly recommend!
Love this peaceful and very clean park. The fact that there is no cell service is actually a plus. Getaway from busy life and enjoy nature as well as swimming and hiking. Has playground and the deer are not shy to say hello. Bathrooms are clean and the rangers super friendly.
The park was beautiful surrounded by big trees all around. Very helpful staff and well maintained throughout. Was surprised to see deers roaming within the park. We camped for two days and we enjoyed every bit of our stay. Showers and flushing toilets are available for campers. The river is easily accessible for simple water activities.
Pro tip: for a decent mobile network with lte/5g, you need to drive outside the park for 5 miles.
Gorgeous regional park nestled against the Sandy River with day use, camping, and playgrounds.
Super nice Park, with beautiful old growth, mosses and lichens. I’m really lichen it!
This is a huge awesome park. Close in to Portland just outside Troutdale. Hike, kayak, paddleboard, bike, picnic what have you. You can kayak from Oxbow to Lewis and Clark rec area easily (mind the rapids).
Nice four-season hiking close to town. The bigger loops have a little elevation gain but nothing really steep. The trails get very close to the park roads, so the off-season is a good time to walk here if you want to minimize noise and crowds.
There is a $5 entry fee. Great open area that is clean. Good for picnics BBQ and swimming. Along the river you will find sandy area to lay down. Plenty of shade but might want to bring umbrella. Water level is pretty shallow at first but can drop off suddenly. The water temp was on the cold side but still swimmable. Could be hard to get a parking spot. This visit was taken on Tuesday June 1st 2021
One of the most beautiful scenic campground/state park I've ever been to, lots of trails, day spots with grills and benches , multiple play areas for the kids all along a nice stretch of accessible river front. Support your state parks, oxbow is wonderful and my kids come here all the time.
Awesome place when not bombarded by other people. If you're looking for quiet place this ain't it. Folks will park on your bumper and encroach upon your personal space. If you are a people person, come here! You'll love it! $5 pass and no animals.
Happy Creek day use area and the boat launch both put you right on the river for easy access and pleasant sitting. Good fishing, and you can wade right in. The Ancient Forest is a glorious hike. It's a perfect day use park.
Beautiful beach. Great for dogs and kids alike.
This place looks fantastic. We couldn't do much the first visit because of the heavy rains and the Sandy river was running very fast. Looking forward to some winter Steelhead fishing and hopefully getting on a couple of the trails there for picture opportunities.
The air was clean, crisp and pine scented- my kind of area. The park looks very well managed and maintained. Will update this post and put some pictures up soon.
Update: We finally got to spend some time here. Set our camper up, was able to get water for the campefrom one of the hose bids available for public use.
Purchased fire wood from host and it was under our picnic table when we got to our site. The crew (Metro) keep this facility and camp grounds amazing maintained, the entire staff are friendly and informative of the area and the river. Though it was a little earlier for the winter run still a beautiful area. Eagles are present, deer in the area as well as other wildlife.
This is definitely a highly recommended stop on my list from now on. We are planning another trip already for our son's sixteenth birthday.
This is a great park to visit and camp at - it's far enough away from Portland to allow for peace and beautiful stars at night, yet close enough to be a quick trip back to civilization. I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Portland. I found this to be the closest campground to Portland that wasn't specifically for RV's. I stayed on a Thurs & Fri night in September and it wasn't crowded at all - most sites were empty. The bathrooms here are really clean and warm, they have showers with hot water, and best of all - security at night! The park gate closes at 8pm and a security guard is on duty for the night. This level of security offers a real peace of mind. There is no service available here, allowing for true un-plugging. They also have life jackets hanging near entries to water which I found to be a nice amenity. The park itself is nice enough but my 5-star rating is really for the camping - I would certainly recommend this campground for anyone looking to camp close to Portland.
Park has variety of recreational opportunities including open and covered picnic areas, campgrounds, play structures, trails for hiking, bicycling or horseback riding, beaches for fishing, and a boat launch. Restrooms with pit or flush toilets are available in various locations. Those we looked in were clean and well maintained. Parking appeared to be mostly gravel. Fee is $5 per car. There is a self pay machine at the entrance station. It is supposed to take cash or credit card. It crumbled and returned the two bills I tried to insert several times. A credit card took about 6 attempts with "unable to read". The person before me took 3 attempts with a credit card. A receipt is issued to put on your dash board. Free brochures for day use and camping are available at the entrance station. Trails are dirt or gravel. Trails are unmarked. There are maps posted at some of the trailheads. No signs at trail intersections indicating name of trail, destination or distance. Some trails are not on the map. Single letter trail marker signs are in several locations that can help find your location in conjunction with the map. Some trails are not open to horses or bicycles. Pets are not allowed. Cell service is spotty. A few emergency phones are provided. There were a lot of water spigots around, some in odd places. Some worked, some did not. Campgrounds and picnic areas had bbq's and a table. The trail on the south side of the road passes through forests covered in moss. The trail north of the road has great views of the Sandy River.
Amazing place to hike near and far, do some fishing, have lunch, or just hang out and enjoy nature. Parking is plentiful with the roads, markers, and trails kept up nicely and with care. This is a great spot to come with the kids for the afternoon that isn't too far of a drive out of town. Parking is $5/car and $7/bus, with card or exact cash taken at the machine. Visit Metro's website for free parking days throughout the year or to get a $40 yearly parking pass, which is what we are planning on after just one afternoon spent here with the kids.
Park gate is locked every evening at 8pm. This is inconvenint for those that like exploring the area. While they have rangers on duty until 11pm, they don't "guarantee" you'll be able to enter after the gate is locked.
Also, the road to the campground is very long. There's over 2.5mi between the gate and the first camp sites.
A true hidden gem! Not too far away from "town" makes it an easy get away
The staff were all friendly and helpful. The only negative for us was the maintenance man using a leaf blower Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. We went for peace and quiet. Wasn't enough to keep us away but a bit disappointing.
Great place for a day trip for the whole family. It has multiple playgrounds and play structures, nature trails, and access to the Sandy River. They have a 'no pets' policy to protect the multitude of plant and animal wildlife in the area. No alcohol is also the rule and they do patrol for this. Campgrounds are well maintained but be aware some sites are smaller than others and only have room for one or two tents. If you are a light sleeper be sure to bring earplugs as airplanes fly over frequently due to proximity to the Portland International Airport. For large groups there are reservable sheltered day use areas and also group camp areas. If conditions are good you may see salmon in the water, even the occasional sturgeon. Water is cold, deep and swift in areas so be careful. Cell signal is spotty thoughout the park, but why would you need that when you have nature all around? Enjoy!
Serene, lush green and chilly in April for camping. But, a beautiful spot, well worth an overnight stay or day trip. Plenty of picnic spots and hiking trails. Next to the river, birds all around, definitely worth taking your binoculars!
Used to love this place. Sadly the river has washed away alot of trails over the years. They do try to rebuild new trails just to have them wash away too. They built a welcoming center. It's a joke. Mostly office space. Not really anything to see.
Beautiful! Great place for an easy walk with beautiful views. Ancient Forest hike was our favorite section.
I ride my horse here. Sandy river access, beautiful views, huge trees, rain forest appeal. Deer are all over, bald eagles, & beavers. Horses are NOT allowed in the main park, camping areas, or some trails. You do not turn left & head into main park as you do for camping. The horse trail head is at end of rd straight from Division st. Limited parking in private neighborhood. Please pick up manure left on the residents street.
Hiked the Ancient Forest Loop today. There was plenty to see and listen to. Trails are not clearly marked and I ended up going the wrong way a few times before I got back on track.
Beautiful place, there is always a chance to encounter dear or any other nature
Amazing and the trails and river were so awesome. They even had life jackets for people for free. Enjoy the piks.
A great place for rocky beach and forest relaxation. Watch out for spider webs on the trail.
Great location for hiking and spending a day with the kids going on adventures in the woods
Second trip today year to Oxbow regional Park. Still so much to see. Site 71 is definently my new favorite spot. Love all the new hiking trails!!!
Really beautiful park! Great place to camp and hike. Very well maintained and clean campgrounds. The park staff are all very nice and welcoming. Overall a really positive experience.
Absolutely love this place- quiet, clean, 3 diff playground to go to, one good spot is safe shallow area for little kids to swim with water shoes. Lots of Deers 🦌, woodpeckers & squirrels. Lots of Trails. It's amazing experience Not too expensive. Great place for Family time, Adults get-away from kids weekend. Etc. Deff will come back near future!!
Nice park with river access and wooded trails. Good place to launch for a float, but you have to pay to park and must pick up your vehicle before the gates close.
This campground feels like a complete immersion in the wilderness, but it's a short drive from the city, you can almost get here by city bus. Great trails, fabulous river with good floating for hot days
Park was beautiful as always... used the Eagle day use facility.... this is a great spot if you have a smaller group with kids... bring you beach buckets and shovels for the awesome sand feature next to the reserved area..
A great place to take your children. It is quiet beautiful and adventurous. The river that runs through the park is great just to lay out and listen to the water do a little bit of fishing or little bit of swimming. You can go kayaking canoeing Oar rafting.
The first four or five camping sites are mainly for RV or camper not really for tent. Doesn't have much covering if any. They have over 70 Campsites. The forest has some small sequoias and a lot of other evergreens with deer Moss with A lot of ferns. It's a pretty whimsical Park .
One of my fave places. Love the Salmon Festival and sitting with my family on the beach. Stay clear of poison ivy/oak.
Primitive camping for tents and small RVs. Very beautiful place. Extremely nice rangers. No hookups. In June there was only one other group in the loop we were in.
We parked by the boat ramp and set up our spot on the sandy beach. It was a lovely day even if the water is still a little cold. Bathrooms with soap for washing hands and at the top of the hill. One (!?) picnic table in the shade but plenty of sunny open areas for fun. My phone had no service at Oxbow, my carrier is t-mobile.
Very amazing views! Great place to camp, have a picnic, or take pictures.
Great place for fishing and camping. Great for all types of age groups.
Clean, blue water. Ample swimming spots both up and downstream make this a destination for families, kayakers and anglers. The $5 dollar entrance fee is a small price when you consider the amenities. This is one of the best kept parks in Oregon. They have clean bathrooms, life jackets for all ages (free) and even encourage guests to use their trash bags to keep the area clean. And clean it is.
Quiet, peaceful. A few other people, but everyone being mellow and respectful. Very pleasant, will go back.
Gorgeous & deeply serene in mid October on a weekday. Nearly empty! The sound of the river was so calming.
Great place to walk rain or sunshine. Usually see a deer or two somewhere along the trail. There is a $5 charge. There are a lot of fun trails to explore and some great potential picnic/lunch spots. Restrooms are closed, but there are porta potties around. Staff is friendly and helpful. Sandy River is beautiful. Blessed to live in pac nw.
We had a great time at Oxbow with two littles. I do wish trails for beach access were marked on the maps they hand out when you pay for parking. Otherwise, it was beautiful and relaxing.
This park is huge, set alongside the Sandy River. Multiple hiking paths, as well as some biking paths can keep one busy all day! Of course, there's the river. I especially appreciate the park having multiple life jackets on hand for water safety.
Love to tent camp here !
Also caught my first fish at Happy Creek
$5 park fee... We went tubing... If you stay in park grounds the drift downstream is short walk long... Bring two cars if you can... There are free spots I think I prefer
It was a nice Fall day for a hike! The Fall colors were beautiful on all the trees!
A wonderful spot to get away! Close ro the city, but feels like you are far from it. Not a ton of people, and lots of spots to camp. Only $5 to get in and enjoy the river
Absolutely beautiful park. Has everything from fishing to floating to hiking and picnics. A very serene place with less foot traffic than you may imagine
Wonderful place to safely us the Sandy River. Has very basic necessities, and also has dry camping sites. NO CELL SERVICE WITHIN THE PARK OR ALONG THE RIVER so preplan where to meet friends etc.
Stopped to talk to ranger. Pleasant exchange and good directions. Beautiful sunny day. Green forest environment. Fresh air!
The park is always clean with multiple access points to the Sandy river. Has slowly gotten more populated with people over the past few years.
For anyone floating through Oxbow, watch out for a large log sticking out from the bank in a fast moving narrow section. Looks to have taken out a few SUP's and kayaks. GPS of hazard: 45.505190, -122.301621
Such a great place to relax!
Lots of places to hike, get to the river with a proper life jacket, a couple of playgrounds and then all the camping!
Just the greatest place on Earth.
Great park just outside the city to get close to nature and on the water. Good spot to put in to float down to lower parks on the sandy.
Beautiful and peaceful. This was the perfect place for a casual wedding. Pavilions are available for larger groups. I was there in July and fawns kept wandering by.
Amazing park ! Hiking , fishing, camping, playgrounds . Tons of wildlife to see! Great for the whole family .
Good place to go and fell like your way out of town but only an hour away from Hillsboro, good place to go with family or friends.
Had my son's field trip. It was a great way to get out of the city. Some pictures I took.
Great place for tubing/kayaking down to Dabney or all the way to Lewis Clark. Lots of trails, always see deer, lots of nice shoreline, camping, etc. Just go
Chill place to hike and go down to the river. Didn't see anyone else while we were out which contributed to the enjoyment of nature.
Beautiful day, fair amount of wildlife, not many campers.
Common merganser's, Columbia black-tail deer.
Incredible natural area with tons of hiking trails and hidden beach spots
Lots of parking, trails, riverfront, and wildlife.
We saw deer, snakes, otters, and coho.
This is the coolest park I've ever visited!!!
Went for a picnic. The boat landing is the best place to take in the calm beauty of the Sandy River. The camp sites weren't very secluded. Plenty of hiking trails. Nice playground.
The Best Campgroung in Oregon for sure!
I've been coming to the same place for 3 years in a row
Love the secret swimming spots!
Lots of places to access the river! Great place to start a river float! Not as great for just chilling on the river front! It does cost five dollars for parking!
We stayed here 8 nights over the past two weeks and I will say this place is a gem, clean quiet and beautiful natural setting with good hiking trails and of course the Sandy River. Things that we feel could be improved on: trim trees along roadway into camping area as it can be tight for a bigger motorhome, change your gate closure times or provide pass code to campers for later arrivals after 6:00pm. We found the gate closure policy to very limiting and quite honestly this is the first place out of all the campgrounds (state, federal, private) we’ve stayed at across the country that regulates access so stringently, hence the 3 stars.
So pretty, the wildlife is amazing!
A beautiful park with some excellent trails and quiet spots.
Very clean park. It's a nice and relaxing place to go on the weekend.
Absolutely love Oxbow whether to camp or as a day use its so beautiful and very well kept. So much wild life as well
We had a nice day on the river, did a bit of fishing, but mostly hanging out. There were lots of people there, but we still found some space where we could hang out without people around. It looked that under the right conditions this would be a good place for fishing. There was lots for kids to do there, and for them to stay entertained. Lots of kids had built some rock bridges using the flat river rocks, and my kids helped with this construction. lots of other people were on floats on the river, going down the mild rapids, floating into the deep water, then back again.
Really great outdoor spaces within 30min of Portland just S of Troutdale. Good hikes, and not busy.
Life vest free for use for kids.Great ideal, safety first for kids.
Beautiful park. Can't believe I haven't been before. I will definitely be back again several times this summer!
It was a cool place to explore
Beautiful and secluded park very close to Portland. Would make a nice weekend retreat from the city
Beautiful..serene..breathtaking views and really nice campsites.
Great hiking trails both along the river and in the old forest. Really enjoyed it
Great place to go and hang out just outside of metro. You can grill / picnic and afterwards jump in the Sandy river to cool off.
Love Oxbow, large park with so much to do and see. Highly recommend going!
Awesome views, and the staff is amazing and very helpful.
Its a beautiful place for the whole family to enjoy!
Beautiful! With a little beach you can setup on next to the water!
I won’t even take off a star for the fact they don’t allow dogs.
This is a wild and beautiful park you might think came out of a Miyazaki movie.
There is space for half of Portland to be here, one would think. Room to exist; room to gather; room for solitude.
Hiking; fishing; disc golf; no cell service.
Very good option if you want to get your day cooler, and hiding from heat
A bit of a drive to get there. But so beautiful once you do.
No phone service, no internet. It was awesome! I felt like I was in a cheesy b rated horror movie the whole time. I didn't go in the water.
Facilities are only partially open but it's hard to tell why they haven't opened completely. It looks like they're low on staff. The place is still lovely - family friendly, quiet, a lot of wildlife and access to the Sandy river. Camping includes parking - the parking pass is the receipt clipped to the site. Currently a burn ban. No problems with mosquitos! Parking is tight on the weekends in the park.
Lots of outdoor options, beautiful river views. Easy parking
Lots of paths. Places to park. Trails are muddy in Spring so be prepared. Great views of Sandy river. Beautiful trees. Lots of bids. Did not see deer this visit but saw tracks. 5 dollars for parking. Have fun
It’s an AWESOME park and the park rangers are really friendly.
Hard to believe how BIG this park is! Lots of great swim spots all throughout and the best part is that there are loaner life jackets hanging on posts at many of the parking areas. Looking forward to checking out the camping area soon!
Wonderful atmosphere, great scenic views. Many wonderful places for pictures.
Absolutely wonderful day. Went hiking on the trails and along the river. 5 star, will visit again.
Absolutely beautiful. Exactly the kind of escape my family needed from the busy day to day. The trails were easy enough that my 15 month old could walk with minimal need to be carried. Do not recommend bringing a stroller. Plenty of access areas to the river. Quiet and peaceful
Fantastic spot. Nice in a hot day. Get a spot by the boat launch.
Great park. Wish the playgrounds were open. If bars and restaurants and schools can be open then there's no reason but laziness to leave them closed. The CDC has stated clearly that it isn't spread from surfaces. Outdoor areas are safe with a little distance and masks. Open the damn playgrounds. Turn the water back on.
I love going to the lake part with my dad it was always so much fun one time when I was younger I got stuck on one of the rocks and my dad had to come get me. I really miss going with him but I love to place
I have been coming there with my family for over 50yrs now. Fishing, camping, swimming, hiking. They even have a play ground for my grandchildren. 3 generations now and we all love it. Beautiful place and well maintained.
Really nice park right next to the YMCA!
Bring your kids! Beaches, playgrounds, easy access to bathrooms. Giant pine trees! Spend a few days
A nice trail to hike for all, sandy river flowing on the side, abundant parking space. You can do fishing, swimming or kayaking too if you are into it or stay for camping. 5$ fee for parking so I'd say it's a good place to go for some fun and leisure time.
Fun family beach with no cell phone distractions. Clean and easily accessible. Great nature discovery park for the kids in addition to the playground. Wish there was a life guard on duty at the boat ramp, very scary to see people in the water not wearing life jackets with the drop off and swift currant, especially after having multiple drownings.
Loved it, kid friendly hikes and park. Saw lots of wildlife and lots plants blooming. Would go again.
Came here to let kids play on playground. Paid the 5$ and drove to the playgrounds to find they are closed and blocked off still. Drove back out and left my ticket I purchased minutes before for someone else to use.. All other park playgrounds in the area are open. We then went to dodge Park and eagle fern park. Their playgrounds are open and clean. Besides the bummer of no playground use, the park is pretty.
Very clean, quiet park. More family centered than for young, single adults. A little bit strict on their rules: no alcohol, no pets, quiet time strictly enforced at 10pm, and the park is patrolled every hour. They only accept card payments for firewood purchases; first time that I have ever run into that situation. Overall, though, a nice park with quick access to the river.
Great mostly flat state park. My kid loves the Sandy beach at the boat ramp.
Magical and serene, without dogs the wildlife is present, spotted fawns crossing the trail.
I loved oxbow. Beautiful scenery. We walked a trail. We camped there and really enjoyed it. Our campsite came with a grill and a fire pit. They have bathrooms some with bathrooms and some without. They also have life jackets available. Please be aware that the current at the same Sandy River is pretty strong and several people have drowned. Be cautious! Great place to visit! Going again next year
A great place to get a quick hike. Even watched a family of deer walk by us.
Lush ancient forest nestled in our metro area. Beautiful hike, and a nice place to stay on a hot day
5 stars for the five deer that gave us a “hey what’s up” nod. 5 stars for the five unique and interesting mushroom varieties we found. 5 stars for having a functioning payment kiosk. Yeah! Nature!
Beautiful rivers and trails to explore.
Lovely place! The boat ramp has a good area to swim and my littles had a nice and safe area to wade in the Sandy river. We just went for the day, and didn't camp so I can't speak to their camping. They are very strict about their "no dogs allowed" policy, so don't bring your pup! That was a plus for us because we didn't have to worry about little feet stepping in dog poop.
Great camping and very family friendly.
We love coming here for little hikes, picnics, calm afternoons by the river and the endless giant trees. We loves it so much we got a metro pass. No experience camping here but it’s a nice park and the small fee keeps it a safe place of people who really are happy to be there and follow the rules.
Dogless but sometimes really crowded, however great camping
Really peaceful and so serian area to be at peace and blessed!
Great place near Portland for either a day trip or camping. The river is slow moving in several spots and they've got plenty of life jackets, so it's a great spot to take the kids for swimming. The water access areas do get a bit crowded, so choose your spot carefully (especially now, during COVID-19). Lots of shaded hiking trails to take in the first, as well. I'd recommend bringing along mosquito repellent for those, at they're pretty shady with some wet areas.
Campground was really nice and had a lot of sites. The showers were a plus and everything was well kept and clean. They do close the gates around 8pm so make sure you take everything with you because the gates don't reopen until the morning. Quiet hours start at 10pm so not great if you plan on bringing a large group. Great access to the river and there is a camping fee and day fee you had to pay for around $25 for one day
There is so much to this place! Must go back. Also, I should've worn water shoes for the rocky bottom in the river. Beautiful afternoon in the water and on the shoreline! We found a pulloff, parked, and followed a jungle path to the water. I brought my tube and floated through mini rapids. Can't wait to return and enjoy the rest of the park.
Beautiful, very picturesque. New Welcome Center, friendly staff, well maintained park. Lots to do, 1,000 acres, the Sandy River runs through it. Great place to camp, hike, fish and so much more.
A great place to take your family to camp, especially for "beginners". Very clean restrooms and camp sites, lots of access to water, and free showers! Firewood is available on site for a nominal five dollars. The only downside was no cell phone service despite it's close proximity to Gresham, and some air traffic noise. I'd take my family here again, no question.
Be aware of the gate closure times if camping overnight. And on weekdays firewood is available upon special request only (park rangers are friendly and patrol often throughout the day, so this isn't a problem).
This city park offers easy trails for hiking, camping, picnic areas, and small beaches to enjoy the Sandy River. It's usually packed on summer weekends due to its proximity to Portland and Gresham, so if you go during hot days, you'll be joining dozens of families. There are some smaller pull-outs that don't have so much room for big parties of children so explore a little if you want some privacy! Oh and no dogs, I believe.
Lovely trails, good fishing, and a nice little beach at Happy Creek in the summer (it's currently under several feet of water after all the rain over the last few weeks). I enjoy quiet time spent here, and though I love animals, it's nice not to have to deal with doggy doo on the park grounds. I'm not native to the area, so I was overjoyed to find Oxbow last year. But it's a well-known spot and can get quite crowded when the weather's nice.
This was an amazing camping area. Right as my friends and I pulled into a campground, 3 deer came up to us out of nowhere. It was a really nice experience. The views here are amazing and being fairly close to the river means there is some really nice ambient noise. The river is beautiful and the surrounding area of the campgrounds was just as nice. I will definitely be coming back to explore the area more.
Great place, feels remote but convenient and accessible. Be prepared for the narrow winding up and down road along the river, and to the campground! There are showers and restrooms with running water, but the park map does not differentiate between these and the more common vault toilets. Salmon still run in this river, and fishing is limited in spawning grounds.
The park is awesome! It's so nice to find someplace so close to town. The camping area is clean and well kept. Plenty of room, parking. The deer here are insane..seen two Bald Eagles. The perfect getaway. Drive north all the way on Division Ave watch for signs.
Absolutely gorgeous park. Rules for camping are a little more strict than I'm used to though. I was supposed to have my wedding here in September, but the Eagle Creek wildfire forced the park to close the day before my wedding. The rangers were incredibly helpful in finding us an alternative location(Scouters Mountain Nature Park-which they also run), and making sure we had all the accommodations we needed with little stress. Oxbow Is beautifully maintained and close enough to the city for day trips to the river!!
Simple and close, trails and scavenger thrills for the kids. Great for picnic's and family get togethers. Summer programs for kids, camping, fishing. Different trails for folks, of limited mobility. Reservations would be a good idea, and very beautiful. Our kids loved the salamanders, and the wild life.
Awesome park, lots of trails to hike and discover new areas around the sandy river. Didn't like the fact that they don't allow dogs, but that's what's happened with all the portland metro owned parks. Other wise a great park, a decent beach, not overly crowded.
My grandsons wedding was there. We all had a great time
Such a great park, family, friends, lovers and groups can go there and have a lot of fun. Keep in mind you'll need to call in case you want to make a reservation and it should be at least 24 hours before your trip. The location on the river is amazing so you can swim , fishing and hunting!
Absolutely beautiful park!! Well kept, quiet. It looks like a great place to go camping. We went here as our take out spot after floating down from Dodge Park. I will definitely be coming back to Oxbow before the summer is over!!
Beautiful park, nice staff, close to town, but the rules for camping are too strict and limiting. Everyone who is staying must be there by dusk, or they lock the gate. Anyone not staying overnight (but maybe hung out that day and is having dinner at the campsite) must leave by dusk. Only two cars per campsite with no real work around; if a third is parked in an interior lot overnight, they'll get a $60 ticket. No pets and no alcohol.
Oxbow is a pretty rad park. I camped here before and had deer come up to me. Awesome park. I'd highly recommend it. Great place to bring the family. Trails to hike, river to fish and swim. Beautiful wildlife. Probably the best park on the Sandy River. There is a boat launch to launch the fishing boats. Not to far out of the city. Check it out!!!
Beautiful park, well maintained! My only complaint is the equestrian parking. It’s at the end of a pothole, hilly road with a turnaround at the end and the park wants you to park with your truck & trailer on a hill. Which then you end up unloading, tying, and tacking your horse up on the road with cars driving by and a water ditch on one side. If you have a reactive horse this is an unsafe situation. I cannot guarantee my horse(s) will be quiet 100% of the time, they are flight animals after all. There should be an exception for trailers to park on the roundabout where it’s flat. A car still has PLENTY of room to turn around if the driver knows how big/long their car is.
Fantastic State Park nestled in the bend of a river. The camping facilities are quite good - coin operated hot showers, and the Ranger Station offers a Junior Ranger program, which was the first time we had come across it (our daughter loved it). Deer wandered through our campsite one morning and I saw river otters playing in the river on a small hike. Quite a beautiful little spot.
I would say that on the price side, this place is okish. The drive isn't the best to there because there are many curvy roads. So if you have children that get easily car sick, you may want to try a different place. This park in general is very spread out. The smell from the toilets could be very strong depending where actually you sit in the park. During the summer months and when it's very hot, this place is popular for kayakers. However, I do want to mention that when it started to rain, they told us the park was closed at 5pm even though it states it closes at 9pm. So not sure why they said that to us.
Would I recommend this place? Yes
Would I go here again? Yes
Really nice forested park with a wonderful picnic area and access to the river beach. It was so nice to go with good friends and family! Bring swim suits and towels and sunscreen. The park has life preservers available. Bring food and drinks. Bring games and activities. Leave nothing behind. No cell phone reception.
Best place to hide on very hot days
Oxbow is a really nice, well-maintained park. The rules may seem a little strict (no dogs, no alcohol, quiet hours, gate closed at sundown) but it has a really peaceful atmosphere because of it. The forest is beautiful and deer and other wildlife will pass by your campsite throughout the day. Tent sites are spaced comfortably apart and have fire pits, charcoal grills, lantern hooks, picnic tables, and access to restrooms and free showers. The rangers are very friendly and will sell you cheap firewood. I camped here four days and didn't have a single complaint.
Great campsites, drinkable water is brown but probably won't make you sick (we drank it), river water is absolutely freezing but we overall had a great time. Would be even better when the wood fire ban is lifted. Absolutely no AT&T cell service, Verizon had one bar.
Affordable, Well Maintained, Kind & Caring Staff, Hot Showers, Clean Restrooms & Easy RV Parking/Tent Areas, Fire Pits, Swimming & Boat Access
Great park, currently $28 nightly at time of review. Staff is always kind, accommodating, nicely paved roads and well maintained gravel roads. Bigger than 35'-40' seems to be about max length.
Be advised: big hills coming down into the park itself. Careful corners, keep slow. Have good brakes. Pull over spot coming back up hill to rest your rig for temperature of needed.
Good, quiet, park.
*******UPDATE 6/26/2020******
I camped here two more times over the review posting and it's still just as great. They get a big green thumbs up from this Google Reviewer! Keep your prices low and quality high and you'll have a lot of people like you do, wanting to camp.
Always a fave. It's like traveling to a other world. Dripping moss, clear river, good rock hunting and foraging.
I love taking my kids here (I wish I could take my dog, but no dogs except service animals booooo).
The new nature play area is super neat. The trails are neat, well maintained and short enough for little legs to enjoy, but still very pleasant and scenic.
This is a Very Developed camp ground, so in a way, uber family friendly, or good for camping beginners or casual camping. They sell firewood on site (that's a pretty good deal). Have working showers and plentiful potties.
Dont forget to talk to a ranger so your little one can earn their junior ranger badge.
Love of stuff that have camping picnicking fun in the sun swimming life vest available at the Boat Ramp I like to put one on a hike up the river and just float back down. Can be crowded on really hot days in the summer on the weekends but usually the weekdays are pretty laid back. They have a campground picnicking area day-use party area a small playground with swing set ranger station and information wildlife and all around peaceful nature area
We visited Oxbow Park to fo some fishing, got there around 6:00pm. Found out yhey are closing at 7:00pm due to Covid-19. Spoke with a ranger, very nice and helpful. Drove us to the spot we were looking for and we fished for about half hour. Everyone we encountered were so friendly. We will be back for sure. Looked like some great swimming holes as well.
This is my absolute favorite place to camp because it isn't too far out of the city, they have great maintenance and assistance is always nearby if you need something.
Nice hidden gem of a park! The water is calm and lots of people were kayaking. Very peaceful. And cheap camping
I can only give a Day hiker’s review. It’s pleasant enough, sprawling with access to the river. The rangers were very friendly. Be aware NO Dogs and they peep into your car for them.
Perfect camping spot for families and groups and close to the Sandy River so you can walk. A naturalist from metro gave our group a fabulous nature tour along the river where we learned about all the local critters and discovered osprey, eagles, dear, owls and tracks of the deer mouse. Clean, hot showers too.
Really amazing park, highly recommend camping there or spending the day. Sites are large and beautifully wooded. Park is very peaceful with deer families wandering through regularly. The river winds around the campground and it's perfect for walking the trails.
I've been going to YMCA Camp Collins since I was 6 and this past was my final camper year. This place is absolutely incredible for anyone of any age the staff are wonderful people who make magic for hundreds and hundreds of kids every year. It's a safe place full of love where you can truly be the you you want to be
It was really cool there rode my bike around for a while there was garbage and needles in certain places but other than that it was a great experience it'd be really cool if they could get rid of a lot of the homeless there in the part what what are you going to do the mirror doesn't care so why so depart people
The pandemic hit and now you're on the cell phone checking twitter, reddit, stonk market, and other mobile games. Take a break. Come out to where there is little to no cell service. Short ride to grocery stores and the such if the need arises.
Nature. Get some.
It's even better with the fire ban. No smoke clear air.
Went to a wedding here. The drive in is VERY long and windy, I wasn't prepared. Other than that, the park itself is beautiful. The views of the river and greenery are breathtaking. Would consider returning.
Great Park picnic areas by the River camping so you can't barbecue because they've banned charcoal grills that you can use propane lots of parking beautiful Park very well catch up couldn't ask for better Park to go have a picnic and spend the day and go swimming
The place was amazing! They have running water,Awesome showers, Bathrooms, and many fun activities to enjoy with the family or yourself. If you are bringing along a big family and u want a ton of room,I suggest #23 and it’s close to the Bathroom and showers, plus the river.
Love swimming in the Sandy River swimming area on hot days, sand, kids like it too. Well looked after place considering how huge this park is. I think it costs $5 to get in, usually pay person at entry booth.
I had not camped here since 1994 or visited since 2004. The park has been improved a lot from what I remember. Still the same narrow winding road, but enough room to get our 32ft travel trailer down to a pull thru site for a weekend geta way. (No hookups, or dump station). There is a nice group site down by the river. That would be perfect for a group of tent campers willing to walk a little.
So close to Metro Portland, yet such a gorgeous natural space with stunning vistas and wildlife. I take my children here every year right before school starts, it's our "last hurrah" before summer ends and the daily routines of the school year begin. They love building "rock people" on the beach and hiking the seemingly endless trails through ancient, moss-covered forest. This park never fails to remind me of why our beautiful state is such a special place. And since my autistic son is positively terrified of dogs, no matter how small or how friendly, we're very comfortable here knowing that none will run up on him and take him by surprise. Sorry, dog owners.
Oxbow Park is a great place to walk around and relax if you are looking for something close to Portland. There is a $5 charge to drive in but in my opinion it is well worth it. You can either walk right along the Sandy River or take any other of the numerous trails in the park. It is also a good place to do some fishing. Lots of open space for casting if you are in the right areas. The only thing I do not like is parking can be kind of limited on busy days
Beautiful view not far from Portland. If for some reason you ride a bike there (plausible) it’s steep riding home though. The river is beautiful.
Beautiful and relaxing. Plenty of places to set up for the day.
Such a beautiful well taken care of place. Lots of easy to walk trails and breathtaking beauty, even in the winter! I can only imagine how awesome it is in the summer! Rangers are all so helpful and nice!
Oxbow is such an amazing place, so close into the city. There are great opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, and all kinds of other activities. I've been going to Oxbow since I was just a small child. It is truly a gem of the area, and a must see for anyone visiting from out of town. There are also ample opportunities to see wildlife. I myself have seen deer, woodpeckers, owls, bald eagles, osprey, chinook salmon, coho salmon, and steelhead.
What a beautiful place for a little stroll by the Sandy River!
Its nice, get there early if u don't want to wait in line for an hour. They run out of spots after about 12. Be prepared to carry your stuff as they can be strict about unloading in the "fire" lane near where u will be hanging out.
Good area except when it's crowded, which is the case in many parks. The people complaining about the no-dogs rule could easily learn why instead of claiming it's unfair. Dogs can run off and chase wildlife, and thuggish pit bulls (and their owners) are too common in any event.
Many "strict" rules in various parks are due to too many people and too many of them behaving selfishly. They see themselves as the only visitors somehow.
Beautiful area, great geology. Best part is not having dogs allowed. So refreshing to visit a public nature area and not have to smell dog feces scattered about the entire time.
A beautiful secret nestled in Gresham, Oregon. The water is crsytal clear and the scenery is breathtaking. My husband and I like to take our intertubes and float down the river. It's a real life fern gully, blue lagoon, all things magical. Therapy in the form of nature on a warm afternoon. 💙 …
Beautiful park filled with moss covered trees, super lush foliage and vegetation, and a nice little river flowing through it. The camp grounds are well placed, near the river so you can hear the water flowing at night from your tent/camper. Big disclaimer for all campers - the gate closes at sunset and the campsite is about 40 minutes from Portland so you will definitely not be able to go out at night in the city if you are staying here. Each spot comes with a table and a fire pit. There is one main bathroom with four shower rooms and four toilets with running water. While we were camping, two of the shower rooms were closed and one of the remaining two only had cold water and the pressure wasn't great. If you are out on the edge of the campsite then you most likely won't want to walk to the main bathroom at night so there are port-a-potty toilets closer by that you can use. The early closing time and the less than amazing bathroom situation are why this super beautiful park only get three stars from me.
You have a good time with family and friends. Love the nature!
Love the "no dogs allowed". Peaceful and safe, met me a few deer and a shy frog yesterday. There are a many hidden areas. Look for a trailside square rock, and then you will find a quiet place.
We are both Disabled my wife's Service animal was recently put to rest due to Cancer we had a pup that was in training with us (they did allow the in training service animal in the park) what I found strange is the complete ban of dogs in the park we were from the other side of the country and never saw a State park with a complete ban on pets! This is a beautiful park we had deer walk up to us! This could be a bad thing since they are too comfortable with people they walk up to you to be hand feed? The moral of the story is Pets are not ok but domesticated wildlife (pets) are ok??? The prioritys are mixed up deer can be dangerous especially to small children they should always fear humans! And those Reviewers that obviously hate dogs! Dogs (the lack of) are not the reason the wildlife come up to you! And dogs don't harm the "delicate ecosystem!' do you realize there are Coyotes and Wolves in the woods??? Dogs are very closely related to the Wolf!!! People are the biggest threat to nature! We gather enmass in places like this pretend it's not hurting anything and blame something else like Dogs!?!? I had lived on the West coast in PDX, Eugene, Medford, Klamath falls and have seen the tree hugger additude is still strong out there but it's just a excuse to blame something else for what we Humans are doing to the world it's a mass delusion! Get over yourself
We go to the spark every year and we love it whenever it's hotboutside the temperature is a little cooler at the park and it's never humid it's just the perfect Park. I've seen people do hiking and biking and the river it's just fantastic..
Beautiful Park with great access to the forest. A nice boat access for kayaks, canoes, and rafts. The river has light boat traffic but the beach can be popular.
Gorgeous park, friendly staff, clean bathrooms and hot showers with great pressure. I'll definitely be back in the future.
My Gf and I were looking for a place to stay so we checked out Ainsworth campground but it was full! We did some research and found oxbow only 30 minutes away. We called around 7:30pm to make sure they still had sites available. Jenna had answered and assured us there were sites available. When we arrived she went over the process with us with a welcoming smile :).
We stayed at campground 29 next to the restrooms and showers. The next morning we decided we would stay another night so we asked if site 29 was still available and it was so we requested it again. After we had finished exploring Portland we decided to head back to camp. When we arrived to site 29 someone had taken it over. Lol someone straight up took our campsite over. They didn't even pay or check in at the office. When I went to the office I explained to jenna about what had happened and she radioed in to a ranger to check out why those people are on site 29. As my gf and I were waiting we drove by site 29 and the people had left to go swimming or something but all their camp gear and tent were still setup. We saw the rangers there looking for them but they couldn't really do anything until the showed up back to camp. It was getting late and we were hungry so we just decided to get another campsite. Jenna apologized for everything and checked us in to a different site and even gave us our money back for the inconvenience. I'm truly happy with the customer service this facility has and the staff that works here are friendly and great! Jenna is awesome!
The only cons I have is gates glose at sunset so that means if you're not back by sunset you're locked out. Until 7am next morning. No alcohol allowed either.
Other than that great park and I'll definitely be back! So glad we found this place!
Beautiful campground and park. Friendly staff. My only issue is the park has a no pets sign and I watched a fellow camper sneak a full size dog in and the park let him stay even though in the rules and when get there they say no pets.
I got married at Oxbow Park so I am quite biased on my review, but I have recently gone back under alot less pressure of a Wedding, (and believe me the Park accommodation made us feel like it was "our" park), I got to see more of the fishing, camping, hiking and water adventures they offer! They have some of the greatest camping grounds and prices in Oregon!
Great family place to do so many activities. The staff are friendly and availability. We have been here many times for day use and camped once but we will be back. It is a great clean park!
Unfortunately because of the delicate ecosystem in this park, there are no dogs allowed. Remember that if you go, they will personally escort you out. But in regards to the park, it's quite lovely.
Earth is medicine, life thrives on soothing meditation or just breathing fresh air. Relax the tensions away. This is my therapy. Just bless to have this to enjoy.
One my family's favorite getaways. If you live in the metro area you must visit...go hiking, fishing, their is a boat launch and even camping. Just a nice nature escape and the best part is cell services don't really work here so it's a nice getaway from devices...!
the river is beautiful, except it took 5 mins for the pay station to take my card..
The place it's wonderful to get away. Watch the deer stroll by your camp. Listen to the blue Jays as they fly from tree the tree. They are so beautiful. And so many more reasons to camp there and unwind.
So many different spots to enjoy nature inside this one park there’s bound to be a hike, picnic spot, or relaxing river beach you like.
Really lovely park. Lots of ways to access the river so you can find areas that aren't very crowded easily. The salmon spawn is amazing to watch.
Great place for camping and hiking
Overall amazing .
Lush green shady way to get out of Portland. Feels like you're far away from city life. Several sandy beach areas along the Sandy River. Multiple group picnic areas. Even some kid's playground areas away from the water.
Oxbow is such a perfect backyard to Portland. There are trails and beaches and playgrounds and mushrooms and forests. It's beautiful and close. For one of those parking lot campgrounds... it's not terrible camping either. The spaces are big and even spread out a bit.
I haven’t been here in about 2 years but when I did go it was amazing me and my family seen deer and there is also a river you can swim in it’s amazing I recommend this place
A beautiful ancient forest. Great for running tails, fishing, photography, horseback riding. The campgrounds, picnic areas and playgrounds are currently closed: less people!
Really lovely place!
Beautiful, forested setting on the Sandy River. Very clean and peaceful campground. Friendly and helpful rangers!
Beautiful scenery, trails fishing and camping
There were deer everywhere and they were super friendly!!
The whole area is well maintained and I felt a strong family safe vibe.
Not the place to go if you're looking to party. ;-)
Beautiful scenery and hiking trails that are well maintained. The restrooms were in decent shape. Worth every penny, and more than the $5 charge to get in.
The information center will provide you with all the information you need ample parking available at each entry point of the trail
There is a $5 fee for parking
There are multiple locations to join the trail
There are specific locations for fishing for boating and for kids to play
The park staff is friendly
The trail is nicely marked however it can be really muddy at some sections
Oxbow is wonderful. There are a ton of hiking trails, great places for a picnic or playing catch. Awesome place for kids, there are rivers, forests, grassy areas and it is huge so you can definitely find seclusive spots.
Close to home but no dogs allowed. It's a nice park but don't go their anymore due to my Labrador.
Campground is well maintained! Flush toilet restrooms, and showers, get muddy, as you have to walk through dirt/mud to get to them. However, camp staff clean, and restock, daily, as well as driving thru often, to keep things in check. They also drive through, daily, selling firewood, so you never have to run out! Bring bug repellant and your own water (their water is "safe," but I am overcautious). They do have outhouse, as well, so choose your site accordingly.
Great place, big, nice views of Sandy River. No restrooms due to covid 19! Definitely will be back! No camping allowed and $5 to park your vehicle!
Wonderful place to go float the river or have a family get-together or get together of any sort. I would definitely recommend taking River shoes as your feet would probably get cut on some of the rocks if you're not careful
Got to Oxbow for a bike ride with my family. Its a cool park, pretty wild for being so close to Portland metro area. Too bad we couldn't take our dog... thanks to irresponsible dog owners who let em run off leash. Great park, lots to explore.
Lots of off leash areas for dogs to run around, including by the river. Always lots of other dogs so I bring mine here to play and swim. Lots of trails and open space for running around.
This is a beautiful little camp ground with group sites, running water and vault toilets. It's easy access to the river as well.
Gorgeous trails and wildlife.
Love this place...my kids love this place. Huge place. Always go there almost every weekend every summer. Feels like a road trip out of town even though it's right next door to the city. Lov
Oxbow is a beat area.
Old growth forest. Great swim holes. Very well maintained. Just don't miss the fact that pets are not allowed.
Love this place been coming here for 40 years and I have never seen the water this low and there. Is absolutely no fires because of the danger
Clean and quiet. Covid did a number on it and the fear of fire led to a campfire ban that was a little disappointing for a camping trip, but overall a good experience.
Nice park, a variety of amenities, beautiful area. I'll be going back again soon.
This park is great. Large picnic areas, make for better gatherings. It was a nice day for a small float on the river, too.
Located not far from downtown Portland, Oxbow is a temperate rain forest wonderland. Oxbow has great beach access to the Sandy River, and even hosts annual events. Though extremely beautiful year-round, it is remarkably stunning in autumn. Look out for the dozens of deer here. Parents of little ones should be cautious though, for the Sandy is notorious for sweeping people away.
It was fun... camp ground is good; shade and privacy... shower rooms are clear in general and being clean multiple times daily and secure... lot of place to see and show at the evening for kids to enjoy...
This place is incredible! Lots of space for family activities. There's a playground and plenty of beach for the little swimmers. I can't believe I've never heard of this place before!
We have fallen in love with this place. Beautiful sites and they have lanterns I've never seen those before. no animals but they let us take our Boston terrier cuz he is a therapy dog for my husbands PTSD.
All around wonderful grounds. Keep in mind wildlife. The deer will walk right into ur camp to sneak food. And the river is REALLY DANGEROUS. A boy had drowned the day before we got there. So LIFEJACKETS LIFEJACKETS LIFEJACKETS. PLEASE
I have been to this place four times so far. it is really good, deers walk by my camp site, and I can hear Sandy river stream! I highly recommend it if you like to camp!
Great boat launch if you have 4 wheel drive...
Great paved road throughout most of the park. Great for day fishing, large group picnics, and overnight camping. Park was clean and we'll maintained with trails and ampitheater
Fun day swimming and floating
Another popular place in the area.
It is really sad when people give a 1 star rating for this beautiful park and campground because their dog was not allowed. If dogs were allowed to enter this park you would not get to experience the variety of critters that inhabit this area.
Way too long of a line to get into the park. Took almost an hour.
Beautiful, serene, clean. A great place to unplug and take walks along the river or in the forest. Black tail deer abound and are not afraid of people.
Beautiful lake, you can float the river when it's warmer mid-summer. They don't allow dogs
Fantastic place to take your family on outings, you just have to leave the four legged family members behind, only had part of the park!
Beautiful, uncrowded park to walk, play, picnic and swim. REALLY appreciated the loaner life jackets!
Beautiful, well maintained, with facilities. Watched a deer while we ate our lunch. They even have life jackets to borrow at the boat ramp!
If you like hiking camping & the out doors oxbow is close to Portland but once you're there it's like being way out in the mountains it's a awesome place to get away
Beautiful park, worth the $5 entry fee, but be warned, it gets very busy on a hot weekend. I had a 45 minute wait in a line of cars recently.
Absolutely gorgeous! Had trouble fishing. Wanted to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. A must visit!
Super well maintained. Though it may seem like overkill, it keeps the knucklehead action to a minimum. Great for kiddo exploration, and the river offers something for everyone
Love this park! Very well kept the forest is beautiful. Also a great place to swim or float in the river.
This is a massive park. Bad cell phone reception so plan ahead. It can be hard to find people in this park if you are meeting up with a group. But if you have time to explore or know where you are going, this is a very beautiful park.
Beautiful setting. Hiking trails are well marked. Slippery spots right now but should be nice in the summer
It's beautiful here. But the park is more sanitized than I usually like in my outdoors destinations. Nature is visible, but kept at arms length here.
Peaceful.. perfectly cool on a hot day.. Therapy when you can't afford actual treatment.. Lots of private spts for fun.. Water is always clear.. We're lucky to have it!
Beautiful, fun and relaxing!
Best kept secret. Deep in a canyon oh, good for a hot day. Clean and well-kept. River is not too scary for little ones.
Oxbow is always great but today there was a lot of people headed to the river to beat the heat. 7/27/2020 Because of the pandemic there is no one at the booth, so took extra long, 40 min., as everyone had to get out of the car and use machine.
Beautiful views of the Sandy River and it's maintained well so you gotta give it 5 stars for that. Just a heads up, tho, it's $5 to park and cell reception is non existent through most of the park
Great place to fish, camp, explore. Manicured grounds and plenty of room for 5k people to be spread out and everyone still have those own space. Love it
So nice and friendly good food and love all the Christmas ornaments
Beautiful park off the Sandy River for camping, hiking and some kayaking. Don't feed the wildlife. They've already become used to humans feeding them unfortunately.
The park is beautiful. I've been to a few different stops at the park and each is uniquely it's own.
It's definitely a bit of a drive to get to the park but worth it.
Clean and beautiful with all sorts of amenities. Playgrounds, campgrounds, river, fields, picnic area, boat launch. And just a $5 fee for day use.
Restrooms available too.
mt hood natural forrest is unforgetable and quiet and more places to go and see and look for than You would have 10 life times to do it in. Recomended Higher
The staff is nowhere near as good as staffs in the past. Doesn't have that welcome feeling it used to have. Feels more like it is run as a business and for profit only.
This is the only place I go camping at my first time was with a best friend of mine and his daughter and her cousin (that kids were crazy but that wasn't the parks fault) beautiful views and a real cool place too go and chill for a day or two bring your gear and food and have a great time
It was a nice and relaxing place with friendly staff and a nice river to cool off in when it's a hot day. The camp sites are close together so camping with other people would be easy.
Can't get enough of this little park.. .it does cost $5...but is just so worth it!!!...Very busy in the summer!....nice place to launch small water craft to float down the river....lots of space.. bathrooms....and LOTS OF PARKING.....just make sure you DON'T PARK ALONG THE HWY ....YOU WILL GET A TICKET!!!!!
We love to go camping here. Beautiful place, we love watching the deer make their way around the campsites. So peaceful!
Great place to enjoy the Sandy River, there is also camping in the park as well pay per day typically tent camping or small r.v. fire wood is usually available at the park station for purchase.
Very close to Portland but you can definitely feel like you are out of town. Great place for a weekend camping trip or just some time at the river on a hot day.
Calm and calmer. So quiet with the water running in the background its as pleasant as can be. Bring a coat the tall trees block out all the sun .
I saw Jeff Goldblum there yesterday filming a movie. Oboe is beautiful to drive thru. it's large and has allot of different areas to picnic.
I Love this place!!!!
We love camping here. Great location, camping spots are comfortable and nature is welcoming.
It's not to far from civilization and far enough from the city to where you can feel free and somewhat one with nature, drive all the way to the camping area, 22 dollars more but with your own spot and quiet, best way
Beautiful park with plenty of space for a lot of people to enjoy. Cost is small to enter and there are plenty of well kept facilities throughout the park.
Absolutely Beautiful place. Hike and swim lay in the sun. Play in the sand with the kids. Lots of little nooks the kids can play in.
Our campsite was very nice! Lots of great play areas for kids and close to the river for fishing.
Oxbow park is the 8th wonder of Oregon, 5 bucks to get in, well worth it, don't have to deal w homeless, no alcohol allowed, no dogs either, beautiful to thee fullest!
Beautiful little jaunt from town
Group overnight bathrooms are a little rustic ie non flush and bring your own to but good place for tent camping.
Huge park with many amenities. Also black bear sightings, so bring your axe.
What a great place to camp! You can spend a week and it feels like you need more time to stay...you can swim walk camp ride bikes enjoy nature
Fun great fishing nice people big area and pretty cheap to park even if just for the day... Gates close at 8.50pm.... Unless your camping...
The day for the most part was filled with drizzle and periods of rain. The river fast and best of all everyone stayed in the raft. The speed bumps are a pain.
I love the river access for swimming, scenic hiking trails, and before covid, the beautiful trees all around the camping areas.
Oxbow is a NorCal river beach, minus the empty Monster cans and Rainbow flip-flops. The sand is as wide as the river and perfectly flat, meaning prime sprawl area for your floating gear or if you plan to spend the day on the beach, where dogs are outlawed but kids run free. While "Sandy River" is an abbreviation of Lewis and Clark's ominous name, "Quicksand River," the winding waterway is docile here, where you can wade halfway across before getting your armpits wet.
Clean establishment, a lot of rules up front but all understandable and create a great environment that you'd want to come back to
It was amazing, so much to see, clean and cheap.
It was a wonderful place. The hiking was good and it was nice to have a free zoo right next door.
Best place close-in the see wildlife. Bald Eagles, dear, Osprey, etc. Wish they allowed dogs, but understand why they don't.
This part of oxbow is beautiful, but the sun doesn't stay on the side you park long. No animals, pay to park.
Great campground, clean and quiet. Beware, the gate closed at dusk, they won't let you in if you arrive after dark.
Wonderful place to visit. Although, salty metro employees apparently feel they can police anyone for anything if they determine someone is out of line in any way.
Fun, just stay safe in the water and it's an amazing place to spend the day
Well maintained. Had a good time at the river got lucky finding a spot. It's super busy but the water was nice.
