Reviews of Director Park
A place of rest for me after a stroll or jog during lunch. I often sit here before heading back to work, and if the weather is nice, I like to take cool pictures.
Cool place to sit and watch the fountain and people. Large space for activities, concerts, street performances etc. Even early in the morning there was only one person sleeping on a bench so that's I'm sure an improvement.
Great park in the downtown area, in the summer the kids love the little pool they have there. Also has free WiFi, wow Bee's Knee's. Just bring back the security in the front room there keeps the riffraff out.
I like that area of Downtown, I play my Jazz,
"Smooth Jazz " on the Blue tube ...
This is a great place to rest, let kids play in the fresh-water, chlorinated fountain, be shaded, and eat lunch. The deli next to the park has clean bathroom, exceptional food, and wonderful service. There’s plenty of seating at park, with benches and some tables. I’d recommend dropping by here if you are downtown but not worth the drive, if you aren’t already in the area. Shopping nearby at Nordstrom’s, Target, & TJ Max is a plus. (The only reason it’s not 5 stars is no public bathrooms, there are some homeless people (friendly) loitering around, not fenced-in for safety, and no coffee inside the park.)
It's not a bad park but Don't expect it to be anything but pretty dismal this time of year and is mostly a dry spot for the homeless this time of the year
Great place to sit and eat or just relax and people watch. Located right next to tons of places to shop or restaurants to grab a bite to eat. The fountain makes it a good place to bring kids in the summer. The Blue/Red Max line and the Portland streetcar both have stops a block away so getting there via public transportation is super easy.
Really enjoy coming here in the summer with the family. We can splash in the fountain, listen to some tunes, grab a snack from the kiosk, then stroll over to the library for story time for the kiddos. The oversized chess board is fun to let the kids play with. Definitely need to keep a close eye on your belongings here. Sometimes kids do get rowdy with the water splashing, which is to be expected.
Nice little city block square with an elephants delicatessen up top and under street parking. There's also a giant chess board and a wading pool for kiddos. Perfect place to relax and eat.
Best place to have your lunch during a sunny day in the wet Portland. Awesome water fountain and seating around it. Crowded with people working around the place during the lunch hours.
Good food @elephants in the park. Peaceful atmosphere. Some street performers were singing and playing drums and guitar. I really got the relaxed Portland vibes👌😃 …
Always a beautifully well kept place. Great outdoor seating, plenty of tables and a water feature. The live music is often quite talented as well.
Well, maintained and patrolled park. Great spot to relax in the city. Play some giant chess or giant connect 4.
Visited on one of the 116 degree days just before noon. The shade helped a lot with cooling down and the fountain was on full. There were some kids enjoying the water and it was very nice. Great park!
A great sit-n-chill spot during the day, also the lit up glass overhead at night is quite enjoyable 👌 …
I love coming here. You can bring something to eat and sit down. Buy food from nearby. People watch. Kids can get wet during the summer.
I'm rating this park based on how I remember it being so full of life. A lot of events use to happen here. And when its summer this place would just glow, the fountain is without a doubt the biggest features and the businesses surrounding it are just adding to the experience. I look forward to a time when this park can be fully experienced again.
This park has giant chess boards that have chess pieces out during the warmer months of the year. There is also a fountain for kids as well. And places to sit if you order food nearby. There is also a covered area that lights up at night as well. This isn't going on as much during the pandemic, but it's a neat park.
Didn't even know this park existed. Sat here watched people while I ate my food. I was happy to see it was clean and not infested with homeless and the their garbage.it was a nice surprise to see this little oasis in the downtown area not defiled.
Very cool architecture and a fun water fountain for kids but 9 times out of ten it's littered with trash and is inhabited by several homeless people.
A very nice place downtown to sit and enjoy the sun on a nice summers day. Maybe even sit and have lunch. It's very clean and a great place for people watching, if you like to do that 😁. …
This park is a beautiful space. I usually go with friends to relax on our lunch break. It can get pretty full sometimes, but if you can find the time to visit when it's not so busy, the nearby fountains help drown out some of the city noise.
Nice little park in the middle of portland. Not much wildlife, but a nice fountain and good places to sit. It has been relatively quiet every time I have been here and has never seemed like a dirty place to me. If you need a spot to rest or eat your food I would recommend this spot. It is worth at least checking out if you are nearby.
Nice serene place to sit back relax. The fountian dedicated to Teachers is a nice spot where kids gather to play, splash, & soak up some sun. The area is clean & well maintained. Pet friendly environment with plenty eateries nearby & the Pioneer Square & Mall are in very close walking distance.
The park is beautiful, even if it is not what people traditionally think of as a park. It isn't grassy and sheltered by huge lovely trees like so many other parks in Portland, including the neighboring park blocks downtown. But it is a large area devoted to recreation. There is a board game library and the wonderful Teacher's Fountain. There is a giant chess set as well. It is a nice place to hang out with your friends or kids at almost any time. The lights reflecting off the water of the fountain can also be quite romantic.
Not the typical park with grass and trees. This park has a fountain kids can play in, a giant chess board, a dance floor and band pavilion, and places to sit like chairs and benches. Great for events. I was there for tango in the park. Fun!
One of my favorite city parks. A great place to relax, wade in the shallow waters, watch a performance or gathering on the stage.
At night there are lights on the roof/overhang that change and reflect on the water. It's a quick walk to the Max, Pioneer Square, Regal Fox Tower theater(for movies), Elephants Deli, Nordstroms...
A pleasant stop in the center of downtown. The decision many years ago to build this space has paid nice dividends for locals and visitors alike. Sit for a minute and enjoy the fountain or cut through on your way about town. Its visual impact on the immediate area is significant.
Its conveniently located for public use. Covered area with seating. A fountain to cool off In during summer. A great rest area while shopping. There is a public library up the street with restroom.
Has been and continues to be one of my favorite people watching parks in Portland.
It's a gorgeous well-kept place with plenty of tables to eat your lunch from the food carts, a stunning glass overhang that lights up beautifully after dusk, and you can usually find some type of performance here on any given day during the summer which is exciting.
Absolutely love this oasis in the city.
Nothing happening here except people sleeping on the benches.
I love that they have meals for homeless here, a huge chessboard and a decently maintained fountain. It's more the ppl going...picture white, middle class ppl who are irritated you brought your kids &/or friends around on a hot day. Usually this type also leaves trash around, so be sure to point out the easily accessible garbage and recycling containers to these folks.
Fantastic urban space for all ages. The little shallow pool and fountains are lots of fun and there's a giant chess set, plus lots of cafes surrounding it. Far nicer than the Pioneer Square close by.
This is a very interesting little park. No grass for pets or play, but it does have sculptures, ample seating, a cafe, and a giant covered sitting area with a glass roof.
It is a very interesting take on a city park that does not leave much wanting.
Often worth the walk here from food carts. Sunny, open plaza for the solar-powered. Large fountain that often contributes to the ambience. Often sufficient seating to find a few spots. Random performances and events may cut down on the availability, though.
Great place to eat lunch and people watch. Good amount of tables and if not plenty of stair or places to sit along the water fountain. Has garbage cans and a water spout to drink out of.
This place is great. Free WiFi. Plus I keep seeing random shows I walk by. The last time was little kids doing ariel acrobatics. Very keen. Lots of room too. Not much "park" in terms of grass or trees or whatever.. that would be great to have, but I guess you take what you can get.
Such a great little public space!
Lots of seating and random things to entertain kids, like the fountains, trees, stairs, giant chess board.
Great place to stop and eat lunch or take a break.
This is one of my favorite parks on the West side. There are a lot of good food options in the surrounding area.
There is a large covered section which is nice when it's raining and there are a lot of tables around the fountain when it's nice out.
I like this place when I am trying to get my stuff together downtown. They serve free meals. Have WiFi. And put on free shows. I saw one with gymnastic kids twirling from ropes. It made my day.
A nice little Park located in beautiful Central Portland, or. During the summer, it has a quaint little water feature that children can play in. And year around it has free WiFi.
Its a decent little spot in downtown to stop and get wifi, meet up with people and during the summer time its cool to watch the fountains.
Violinist presents free concerts here with excellent natural acoustics upon nearly every fair weather weekday midday~ and is pure joy to listen to, makes eating lunch there wonderful and the whole day better.
Free WiFi and life sized chess board, Sweet!
This is one of my favorite new parks in Portland. The fountain's perfect for soaking your feet on a warm day and it's much less crowded than Jameson Park. Also, they've often got fun events/concerts/performances going on during summer weekends.
One of the nicest plazas in Portland, European in style, it's located on top of a huge underground parking structure- you would never know. Elephants Deli is a nice addition here, lots of place to sit and watch people playing in the fountain.
Great spot to cool off and have lunch by/in the fountain. It gets hot here with the the sun reflection off the neighboring building.
Great architecturally but not too functional of a spot. The chairs and tables are way too small for people to sit and do meaningful work. It's in a great spot in the city
Special dances held there every year. It's a wonderful experience each time!!
I hope the City of Portland sres the value of maintaining our city parks as they bring community together!!
Plentiful tables and chairs, an excellent water play feature (summer only), clean restroom, oversized outdoor chess board, and adjacent restaurant make this a lovely public plaza in the best European tradition.
One if the nicest urban parks I have ever been too. The huge chess game is great fun. The moveable tables and chairs make for a comfy seat and at night the lights are beautiful.
I like to eat lunch in this park. It's perfect when the weather is nice because of the fountain and ample seating with tables. But, the covered area is nice even when the weather is not nice.
My family had a great day here. It was a nice day so it was very lively. Music playing and people dancing. Our kids played in the water and had a blast.
The park is cute but too small, also near a MAX, so definitely not safe for running children. Also, there is a giant chess set, but it cost money to play. Ridiculous
I love this new-ish park. Portland needs many more of these public patio/public living room spaces. It's a great place to people watch, a perfect place to sit and have a coffee while you wait for a movie across the street, and it's a good mix of all types of Portlanders.
In the warm weather there is a great water feature the kids love to play in. It has lots of tables, benches to sit and places around to get food. There is also a large chess board on the ground.
I enjoy the surrounding. It is a place of sanctuary when you want to unwind before or after work & get a bite to eat at the food carts that is located on SW 4th Ave. / Washington st. It's not too far! Plus, there is WiFi. A+ for me! Beautiful Portland. Oxox
Nice spot to reflect and gather up your thoughts. Plan your next move and forge on ahead and conquer the day. Okay seriously it's an open space in the middle of downtown, but it ain't the worst I've seen, lol.
Loved the delicious gluten free soup and other offerings. Convenient find after a walk across Tillicum Crossing on our way to ride the aerial tram to OHSU.
BEAUTIFUL park full of many unique trails. Lots of parking, and I rarely see other people even though this park is in the middle of Portland. There's so much to explore!
A white courtyard with a fountain kids can play in, a large awning and trees for shade, a giant chess set, plenty of takes, and an overall elegant atmosphere. Within walking distance of food carts.
Very nice place to visit! Clean and relaxing, one park attendant name Spencer goes out of his way to make sure your visit is a great experience, I recommend a stop at director park grab a bite to eat play a game of chess and get ready for another awesome place to visit!!
This park is almost hidden in the middle of downtown Portland, we just met up for a tour couple days ago and got dropped off here at the it s park! It's small but it's really cool being located right in the middle if Downtown Portland!!😀👍 …
A beautiful, peaceful place to relax for a bit. Not ovely crowded at all. Nice and open, plenty of places to sit and not too many weirdos!
Oh! The park has WiFi.
Clean, a good stop to hang out and or rest your feet while visiting. Visitor center has excellent volunteers w great info to share about the area.
Great covered area, amazing fountain that is fun for any age to play in, giant chess, and a nice café. Easy access by car or bike.
It's a place to go and watch Portland do its thing. I'll get some pics up soon. Cheers, everyone!
A great park to sip on some coffee or read a paper. It is central located around many shops in town and the canopy lights up at night and it can be very pretty on a dark night.
Directors "Park" or more accurately Directors Concrete Slab is a popular downtown spot for folks who enjoy playing giant chess, an overflow for a popular Starbucks (Once you finish getting high in the bathroom, naturally), kids wanting to play in the fountain or adults just wanting an excuse to take their clothes off in public view. This and countless other opportunities for fun await in the shadow of Portland's tallest building (Don't get excited, simply Google "Portland Oregon Skyline" and you will understand).
Just saw the Tonya Harding movie
Theater very clean and modern. The movie is very enjoyable and entertaining. The only thing about going to downtown Portland is being in traffic on the way home.
Lovely little downtown urban plaza. And, directly adjacent to Elephant's Deli. AND, a public fountain is located right in the park...enjoy!
Small park in central downtown Portland. 1 block square totally concrete, but has a water sprinkling system for kids to run thru and a giant chessboard with all the chessmen that people can play. Located across the street from Nordstrom
fun place to hang out. the tram/bus system has several stops here as part of the city walking tour. there's a coffee shop and some food trucks there
A great place to have lunch. Grab lunch from one of the food carts on SW Alder between 9th and 10th and stroll over to this park where you can find entertainment at times (music).
Beautiful music made together when the heroic efforts of push-pull are involved.
Veggie food free from the internaltional collect.,but too much materialism for my taste.
3 foot tall chess pieces and 2 x 2 bricks to chess upon. Way cool. The glass coverage here could use a serious cleaning.
Very popular with tourists read along Riverfront heavy foot traffic area lots of shopping and restaurants and hotels nearby safe area in the daytime I wouldn't go there after 3 a.m. or so.
If you get a few free hours to kill, this is the place to be. Grab a Starbucks, and just take a seat while you watch life in Portland bustle along on a weekday. Worth it!!
Great place to sit down and eat lunch.
has Wi-Fi and I like how there's a fountain that you can sit to. however, there are no outlets to charge your phone or laptop
Fox Regal is great. Clean, nice seats and have great indie movies that other theatres have stopped showing. Saw Lady Bird tonight. Great!
One of my favorite parts in Portland. It's nice to see the kids playing in the formation in the summer. And the entertainment is always good when it happens.
Grabbed some food from the food carts and walked here to sit down and eat. Lots of people having there lunch but it's easy to find a little spot for yourself.
Very nice spot to get some sun while lunching. Water feature and jumbo chess board included. Check it out.
I like directors park because there were people dancing on the dance floor they had set up there and they were playing ballroom music with a mature yet professional-looking dancers.
Beautiful park in the middle of downtown. I've played giant chess and watched a free aerial show here. They seem to have shows and events often.
Nice little stone park with water feature for kids. Some places to sit and nearby restaurants make it a good lunch spot.
A smaller more secluded park out of the way. Lovely in the summer with the fountain going and kids playing but in the winter it's kind of dreary
Play chess on giant board with giant pieces. Sit under the spacious awning or take selfies next to the humongous cement ball in the decently sized fountain.
I love this park in downtown. There is plenty of seating, and a small water area. Perfect for all ages.
Good parking, close to lots of business and public transportation, and in the hart of downtown Portland.
Very clean and family friendly. Lots of games and a wading fountain. Always park hosts and security on site.
Our 1 year old had a great time running around in the fountain while street performers played great music.
More seating would be nice. Too many tall buildings now surround the park making it less pleasant than it was.
A great place to meet up. Life sized chess board (with pieces to play) and colorful folks makes for great portland people watching!
Well. There is like quite literally NO grass, and minimal natural to say the least... But it's alright. Very corporate. Very adult. Very sterile. A rejection. Of nature.
Really great space overall. Lots of seating and a place to bring your lunch.
We went to the movies in this park. It was really lovely to see all kinds of people, parents and children, out listening to live music and then watching a classic film.
Love the water fountain. A good place for kids to have fun. Food places close by.
Nice feeling area surrounded by shops and restaurants. Summertime the fountain cools adult feet and children's need for getting soaked
Smokey day delicious wine!
Nice place to sit (when the weather is nice) and have a takeout lunch or dinner (lot of nice food trucks & restaurants nearby)
Great place to people watch during lunch hours. There is a good mix of everyone there. Grab food from one of the local eateries and hang.
Fun place for kids, we liked the fountain. Good access to all famous downtown places.
I love this park! The big chess is always a hit, I love the fountain and the public restroom is always so clean.
Great way to hide a parking garage I guess. Probably a nice spot to bring kids to play in the fountain.
Great place to eat your food cart food. Also if it's a hot day take a dip in the fountain.
Loved it! Was visiting a family of mine. Beautiful place to stroll by and it was sunny too.
Great events here like annual tango dancing, movies, silent disco parties, and of course, tasty treats from elephants deli!
In the heart of Portland's downtown. A great place to meet. The kids can play at the fountain. Great restaurants around.
Sort of the last hurrah of the old South Park Blocks extension before it jams into the new Park West tower. Pleasant space with much to offer.
Good place to eat your lunch, enjoy the sun, and look at the fountain. Kid friendly.
Great spot for chilling and eating food truck goodies. There's a fountain for the kiddies too.
Good hangout park with a portion covered which is nice. Some 'urban campers' so at times can be interesting.
Excellent people watching. The Human Zoo...
Just a great place to sit and have lunch from the no longer existing food carts!
Nice park. Good place to go for lunch during the day if it's not pouring.
Very urban upscale but small activity area. Surrounded by heavy traffic, city noise and exhaust fumes.
Awesome fountain for kids to run and play. Lots of seating for parents.
Nice park maybe great scenery for my daughter and son in laws maturnity pictures
Cool little park nestled between two tall building with a fountain and a giant chess board. No grass obviously.
I was surprised how awesomely rowdy this place was on a Thursday night of all nights. I guess people were riding their bikes?
The venues are getting better. It is adding more things the senior citizens can attened and that is a big plus.
Okay place to hang out and eat downtown. Kind of like a cement jungle, in stark contrast to the Park blocks.
Had my dinner from elephant deli, live blues music, best spot on hot summer day.
Great place to watch, meet and enjoy people. Food, transportation and entertainment close by.
Great place to hangout if you don't mind the homeless people hanging around
Nice spot, but they started putting chairs away at 6:30pm. With such long days in the summer, it bugged a lot of people.
Great place to people watch, enjoy the downtown scene & catch a free outdoor concert.
I think they may have turned it into a skate park.
Lots of fun for kids and several options for food and shopping nearby.
Love this park, the water is nice. Perfect place to eat pizza and sun bathe
It's kind of a dirty place... but I mean, it is a city. There was a riot going o when we were there. Interesting, but disturbing.
Great spot to read a book or eat lunch with friends in the city while enjoying a tastey beverage.
Kids love the fountains :) Also Elephants Deli (Elephants in the Park) is delicious 😋 …
Always good for light work or lunch, has an area that'd covered to enjoy the park in the rain
Nice place to people watch. Close to everything downtown. Free WiFi also.
Nice place to stay. Check it out
I've actually never been to Director Park my phone just thinks I have everytime I go by there on max 😔 looks cool though …
Great trendy place. Took a tango class so much fun. Great place to relax in the city.
Enjoy your food. Secure bike parking in the garage too.
Great place to be in during the summer. Nice fountain and view
Awesome urban public space - love the sitting areas, children's fountain, and giant chess set!
Clean with good security. Quite. Nice location situated 1 block from Pioneer Courthouse Square
This place always has cool things going on! The lights & feel of this place is nothing short of amazing!
Nice urban park that's usually not crowded and pretty quite and safe
Great park for walking with the dogs and just enjoy the view.. Lovely place!
A bright sunny place to sit. However there's no longer beverage services at the moment
Perfect place to bring the food you just got at the food carts nearby
Nice little place. Good for lunch breaks for the surrounding buildings.
Great water fountain for kids in summer. Good food around.
I went to eat at 6pm when they feed homeless. Good food, nice people
Great place to read during lunch hour or enjoy the sounds of the xity after work or on a weekend.
Lovely public square with water features, a cafe, shaded seating, and shopping nearby.
Not sure if I would call this a park, since it's all paved. But it is a nice place to visit.
This place is awesome free WiFi pow right get there to satiate your right in the middle of the he city type wifi
Good place to people watch, grab a snack, or splash in the fountain.
It is a nice urban square w food, fountains and frolicking.
Very nice park area with fountai and giant size chessboard...
When in down town, this is a great park to enjoy some food from the near by food carts.
Good spot to watch people and eat nice burgers. Sometimes there are big chess figures
Good place to take your food truck fate - tables, benches and sun
This is a great space to sit back, relax, eat lunch, or hang out with others.
Beloved by our neighborhood - it might be concrete and not grass but it is our communities "Drawing Room"
Love the life size chess game and the music today by Fools in Paradise was beautiful African music for the spirit and soul!! #liveloveportland
We went to the happy hour in the bar and the service and the food were excellent.
Its great ..and at 6 pm mon thru fri free dinner at 6 pm
Fun art and central location with places to relax. A nice escape in downtown.
It bothers me that the water in the fountain is labelled as non-potable but with all the transients around, its probably not the safest place anyways.
Absolutely the best place to hang out, watch people and have lunch.
Good place to go and ponder as well as picnic there are tables
Walking though and there is a symphony playing. What fun. Always filled with activities
Clean and kept that way. Free meal at 6:00 and its wonderful!
Perfect place to take your kids to play in the fountain
Just discovered this spot in the middle of the busy Portland downtown. What a wonderful respite from the crazy city hustle and bustle
