Reviews of Bradbury Mountain State Park
Casey
Bradbury Mountain offered a nice quick hike. The terrain and elevation gain wasn't bad. There were also a bunch of colorful mushrooms. My friend and I foubd mushrooms of every color. I would definitely do this again. It killed a few hours, including travel. It was wonderful seeing all the leashed dogs and people doing what they are asked to.
John Levtov
Nice campground. Most camp sites are not very big but still was room for 6 person tent, canopy over the table and a couple hammocks (tree tied) plus our car. All with a reasonable setback from the fire ring.
Good Hiking with a variety of trails on site but not much else to do close by.
Jon Swift
This is a short hike. About 1.5 miles from the parking lot to submit and back. There are a lot of interconnected trails. Everything is well marked and maintained. There is a fee to enter.
Magic Fairy
Busy place but worth the travel. We had our dog with us and like all the easy or more harder choices of trails. A beautiful view. Suggest to go during Fall season! Bring picnic and water. Backpacking is best.
motahareh tavakoli
A great place to hike, has trails with different level of difficulty. The scenery on top is amazing especially in Fall.
Kyle Cancilla
Beautiful park with hiking trails and a nice vista at the summit. Trails are well maintained. Has a fair sized playground for the kids with swings. Parking is limited however and can be scarce, especially on the weekends. Definitely worth a few hours of your time if you're travelling through the area and a great weekday escape for locals!
Thomas Larson
Nice campground. We stayed for 3 nights and were very happy with it. It has a nice community coffee station and a small pantry if you need something. Fire wood was for sale in the campground and was very dry.
The camp host was less helpful than some I've met but the ranger was super nice. I'd love to come back with my gravel bike.
Jessica Sood
Had a 3 day stopover last minute and Bradbury was great! Easy hiking trails, quiet and the park rangers are amazing. Ten minutes from Freeport shopping and the Desert of Maine. Super clean facilities, the sites were spacious and LOVED they had a section that had a coffee maker and microwave. It made traveling with a two year old accommodating. A must stop for a New England road trip!
Cindy Morris
Nice park. Good trails going up, challenging to come down
Izzy Zanin
We loved this park. They had an outdoor community kitchen area that was so hospitable. There was a book lending library, microwave, sink with soap and sponges, coffee maker with coffee and things needed. The bathroom, although pit toilets, we're so clean and didn't smell bad at all. I would highly recommend this campground.
Bev Stevens
Loved it!!! Will be making numerous trips! Well marked and clean trails. It is easy to access. There is a large play area for kids and plenty of picnic tables for families to eat or rest at. There is also plenty of open lawn area for picnic or hanging out with family and friends. $4.00 per adult and $1.00 per child under 12.
Paul Meicke
Pretty low key hike which is what we were looking for with our very young child. Nice views and well maintained.
David Hamilton
Nice clean park they charge per person in car. Got in free for being a veteran wife got in free senior citizen. Can't complain about that

May 8, 2022 ( Spring update. . . Added several photos)
Bradbury State Park is in the small community of Pownal, off Rt. 9 close to Freeport, Maine . . . The park offers a great spot for everyone to enjoy communing with Mother Nature.
There's a variety of options . . . such as swing sets, and jungle Jim sets for the kids. Picnic tables are available for packed lunches. There are 4 or 5 trails to climb the mountain, most are very easy climbing for all ages. There's a short quick and steep trail that puts you at the summit in 15 minutes, if you're in a hurry. The views are mostly south and to the east, the mountain is only about 900 feet. I like the easy climb, with a packed lunch to sit and reflect, especially during foilage time in the fall.
I've enjoyed this climb over 30 years with my parents, and my kids . . . Well worth your time. There is a park fee for entrance. I recommend buying the $100 (plus) yearly park pass to all state parks if "parks are your thing "!
I think this winter I might snow shoe up in January or February, for a change?
Monique Maxwell
Short and sweet. Easy hike with a great payoff. Many go to track and view birds
Sarah Grover
Always a beautiful place for a little hike, doesn't matter the season.
Hannah Olson
A wonderful park for an easy walk or a short climb, all year round. The trails are well marked and you can grab a trail map at the entrance. Nice picnic facilities and very dog friendly. There is a playground for kids. Everyone was observing good Covid protocols during my visit, with masks and distancing between groups.
Scott Wood
Spent 2 nights here to enjoy some mountain biking. Great little campground. We stayed at site 16, which is a walk in site with a small 3 sided shelter. I believe they have 3 such sites and if you can get one I highly suggest it. Most of the regular sites are pretty small and tight, but these are set back and very nice. Lose a star because there was trash in the fire ring and along the trail to the site. Would be more but the host there is extremely pleasant and I'm sure the heavy rain from the morning hindered the ability to properly prep the site after the previous party. There is a wash station for dishes near the entrance, and there is dish soap provided should you forget yours. I thought that was a nice touch. There was also a microwave, which may be splitting hairs but was kind of a detractor for me. I'm sure most others appreciate the availability. As for firewood for sale within the campground, the quantity for the price is well above average compared to what I've experienced elsewhere.
The other parts of the State Park we were able to experience were very nice as well. We rode up Bradbury Mountain and then rode around on the East side of the park. All trails were in good condition and well cleared. Park staff and volunteers seem to do a very good job here. There is an abundance of signage so no worry of taking a wrong trail, and a great overabundance of blazing so no worry of losing the trail.
Overall Bradbury Mountain State Park is very nice and well worth the trip. Whether you go to spend a few days at the campground or just go for a day, it is an excellent destination with pleasant trails and a wonderful view at the top. We will definitely be back!
Wolf Merrik
Such a gorgeous view on the summit and there is a large selection of trails for people of all ages, sizes, etc. Definitely a great place for virtually all seasons.
Rod S
Great hike for the fall leaves! We went with a 2 yr old and had to carry her the entire way up. The path was clear and well marked even though leaves covered that path. Recommend for a quick detour as it is not too far from the highway.
Samuel Watson
Great state park, parking is a $6 fee, but well worth it. Park is open year round for hiking or cross country skiing. Good views and bird watching from the summit. There are a variety of trails, some more difficult and steep and others that take a longer and easier route to the summit. Highly recommend!
Laurie Bohanan
This park is beautiful. Outhouse type toilets, but area is kept clean. Nice big modern showers. Also a little lean to with a sink, microwave, cold waters (on honor system to pay). Our campsite is neat and pretty level with picnic table and fire ring. Paths are very neat and easy to travel.
Erin Grey
This place is beautiful, and has many hiking loops, all between .3 and 2.4mi in length. The summit is a really short hike, but the views are amazing. We had it to ourselves. We came too early to see much foliage, but I can imagine in a week or 2 it will be exploding with color! $6 to park! Only complaint is that there aren't more trails!
Nicole T
Nice hiking here. Some spots were hard to walk through but that's only natural due to the muddy season. Beautiful view!
Angel MCM
Beautiful trails, well maintained, dog and kid friendly, a playground, camping spots, clean restrooms, and $4 pp entrance fee. The view from the top is spectacular! A variety of trails for all abilities. Go! You'll love it!
Vincent Aceto
Easy accessible trail system. The trails are well marked and the hike to the summit is great for all ages. The staff keeps the park very clean and all are very personable.
David Sherwood
We enjoyed our visit to this state park. We walked the Summit Trail and found a fantastic view. We also hiked the South Ridge Trail and a bit of the Bounday Trail. Adults are $6 but seniors are only $2. That being said, mostly we found obstructed views. Trails were overgrown with roots and there were lots of rocks. It had rained so everything was slick. We had to really watch your step basically all the way.
Henry Tarlow
Lots of trails, short hike to a beautiful summit, big parking lot, toilets, trails are very well-marked.
John Carpenter
Not a bad little hike. Pretty crowded. They have picnic tables and grill pits. I only came to hike and solo it was not very challenging ended up jogging the trails, but this would be a great place for small children or dogs
Richard Godet
Many Beautiful trails, well maintained. Seanic views. Easy walk to summit, or straight up.went last Sunday afternoon. Nice foliage,.Close to Freeport. .
Emily Moker
This is my favorite place to hike and not just because it's close to home! There is a wide range of trail choices and routes. Views from the top are gorgeous, and with the summit trail, you can get there in 10 minutes. Parking is never an issue. Great place for year-round adventures!
Matthew Johnson
Trails here are awesome. I haven't been on them all yet, but have been on several so far. They are well care for. Some can be used all seasons from what their information tells. The grounds are beautiful and there are many picnic tables (some with grills near). There is also a very large playset for the kids to run around and play on. Great place to go, whether you just need a stop to stretch your legs or a place to spend your day. They also have a campground if you want to stay for a while.......(that for another review Bradbury Mountain State Park Campground). Enjoy the woods!
Sheep Davis
Cool place. Lots of trails, a few scenic spots and plenty of maps along the way. I went here because I thought there was a fire tower at the summit. I guess not. I still enjoyed it. Great views at the scenic overlook. Can see all the way to Cousins Island in Yarmouth and the Eastern Prom in Portland.
Caylee Virgin
It was a great hike! .2 miles to the top of the mountain... stunning views! After the beautiful view, there are many trails to go through... bring your bug spray!! :)
Andrew Elegante
Nice park, close to the city. Not a challenging hike or particularly remarkable (other than the view of the ocean from the top) but great opportunity to get out into nature. Would be 5 stars if the entry price was less steep
Jason Kichline
Beautiful park with a gorgeous view at the peak. Trails are a little tough at times. Consult the map to plan the best route for your group.
Tom DeFrancisco
A variety of trails and plenty of parking make this an easy go-to day hike. The mountain is under 500ft tall, and the North trail provides such a gradual incline that it's not challenging to get to the top. Alternatively, the switchback trail, while more arduous, will get you to the peak in about a quarter of a mile, if you're looking for a quick but thorough exercise. You can see the ocean from up there!
Greg Johnson
Very good place to ride your mountain bike if you're skilled. Trails were crowded but it is a holiday in late summer in Maine. The views are incredible for being close to the coast in Maine.
Anastasia (Orie)
Very nice spot, good variety of different trails with different difficulties for everyone. Trails are marked and have little facts around. Beautiful view at the top and dog friendly. Not many bugs either
Diana Greenwald
We reached the summit on a beautiful, sunny, crisp fall day and enjoyed sitting up there with our dog for a while. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish the park was bigger with more trails for people to spread out even more.
Irtiza Akhtar
A really maintained nice hike, the view is only 0.2 miles away from the parking. They have smaller grills as well if anyone wants to do a bbq there before hiking
Marcus Boucher
Great smallish State Park with a variety of trails.
Chris Soule
Great little park! Plenty of parking, playground, restrooms. Nicely laid out and maintained trails. Plenty of them, even the most difficult my toddler can navigate with ease. Great view from the top! Excellent for kids, dogs allowed on leash.
Walter Wittel
We were just there one night (raining when we checked in) but we took a short hike on one of the trails the next morning and it was fantastic. We wished we were staying several days to allow exploring more of the trails.
Erika Skiff
Fun, easy hike. We took our 1 year old up with us and he loved the baby swing at the playground after! Plenty of different trails to choose from too. Great place to spend a few hours.
Michael Barone
Wonderful time on a crowded day. Rangers worked hard to accommodate everyone with a race going on. Park was exceptional clean to for the hundreds of cars there
Rachael Coleman
An easy hike with a spectacular view. We brought a picnic snack for after, and the kids had reserve energy for the playground while we supervised.
Tyler Finck
This place is great! The whole family (including a 4 month old and 69 year old) had a great time. The summit of the very short hike is beautiful.
Dustin Bonk
A great place for a nice hike! Not too difficult, good scenery.
MustafaSellsCars
Amazing place..One of Maine's five original state parks, Bradbury Mountain has miles of trails offering hikers a wide variety throughout the year, and is only park that offers opportunities for shared use on most trails which include mountain bikes, equestrians, and hikers. Most hikers prefer the trails on the west (parking lot) side of Route 9. These trails converge at the summit of Bradbury where one can see Casco Bay, the skyline of Portland, and breathe taking colors during fall foliage. #BrownGuys
Liz B.
Great little mountain. Perfect for the wee ones. My almost four year old made it up the southern trail no problem, didn't even ask to be carried. There's enough of a view and a nice bald face at the top to feel like you climbed a mountain, but the longest trail is only about a mile and a half.
Sylvia Zapata
A good climb for a bit of cardio work. Many happy people on the trails and even met some horses.
Kevin Cordes
One of the top rated mountain bike trails in ME. Note there is a small entry charge but it is totally worth it. Trails are in fabulous condition with small bridges to get across wet areas. You can easily do 10 miles with the east side of Hallowell Rd. being mostly flat and the west side being a bit hilly. Great fun for all riders!
Corina Wilson
Nice hike for kids, (all ages) on any day! (Even winter) did it on my way through to stretch my legs! Always live this place.
Karyn Knights
Well kept family friendly area. Nice quick hike. Good playground. Close to Freeport.
Nero T
Small state park offering a couple hiking routes to the summit with a view. Good spot for foliage hiking from Portland
Dan Cunliffe
Beautiful hike. Great views when you get to the top. Many easy trails for families of all ages.
anthony coldwell
Real cramped compared to some of the other state parks we camped at. 5 sites within 20 feet of ours . Great little welcome/wash area that was a welcome addition. Offered free books/games swap. Snacks by donation and food and water dishes for animals with some free in need food. Out houses were all drained at 9am on memorial day weekend leaving a putrid smell that could make someone gag and puke throughout the campground for an hour or more. Right next to a relatively busy road that you see and hear all day. Not as secluded as other state parks. Great trails that offer different skill levels, biking and climbing environments.
Keegan DuBrown
Short hike, ok views, very easy. Cool bird watch was going on at peak.
Brent Capener
Excellent trail systems well marked and great for multi use like mountain biking and winter use. Great for families with playgrounds and easy hikes as well.
Nehru Enerio
Quick short hike to the top. Kid friendly and worth going to if you need to burn one hour or two with the family. Be careful during winter months since there was still ice on the trails during April.
Shane
Beautiful park with lots of trails, varying difficulty level. The view room summit was amazing!
Dagmar
Stopped here to have a picnic lunch. The park is well maintained. I noticed there are tables near the handicap parking, reserved for handicapped patrons, which is a nice feature. There are a couple geocaches in the area, too :)
Ken Wrobel
Very well marked, easy hiking trails with great views from the summit.
Ayon Ibrahim
Excellent place for a hike with the added bonus of a super friendly cat on the premises!
Kevin K
Great hiking trails and scenic views. The trails are well marked and are very easy to navigate.
Dustin Jennings
Great place to camp. A little noisy from the occasional passing car but nothing to worry about. Nice showers too. Mountain biking is connected to the camp too, just got to find the trail.
Robert Smith
Short steep hike with great vista at the top. Well traveled. Fire tower at the top makes for a good lookout spot.
Sarah Lepoff
Well maintained trails and beautiful scenery.
Ivy Marie
A beautiful after work adventure... definitely coming back to camp and explore some more...
Diana Iquique
Very friendly trails
Megan Vaughn
We had a nice night of camping. Check in was a breeze. We had a few that played very loud music for several hours but they did turn it off at 9:59 a minute before quiet time started.
The restroom set up was adequate. You'll need ear plugs for sure with the squeaky restroom doors. 😉
Will Akin
A straightforward, very easy hike that rose gently upwards through thick trees, finally culminating in a splendid view (pictured below). This is also a really great place to bring pets to, though they are required to stay on leash.
Celeste Tamburello
Such a great way to enjoy the outdoors no matter your physical shape...(which i am out of) but still managed a hike with my kids to explore the great Maine outdoors!!!
Joseph Middleton
Bradbury Mountain State Park has a very nice set of hiking paths. These all converge towards the vista at the top of Bradbury Mountain. The views from the top are nice and provide distant viewing of the area. As a fairly experienced hiker, the trails were fairly easy but enjoyable. Without exploring any of the back trails this was about an hour hike. Definitely a nice stop outside of Freeport.
b d
Love this place. Typically go at least once a week.
Christopher King
Great day for a winter hike. We did the guided First Day Hike and had a lovely time. Park is very family friendly and accessible to all ability levels.
Robert Blow
I loved this place. I found out quickly that the trails are impassable by bicycle. I just pushed my bike to the summit. I cannot wait to come back! This place has to be sweet in the summer.
Ryan Ireland
We pulled in with no real expectations to this lovely state park. We were pleasantly surprised how quaint and welcoming it was. Our site was located near the trail heads to several trails. But mostly, we were impressed by the shower rooms. In our one month of staying at various state campgrounds, these are by far the cleanest and nicest showers in all of the Northeast. The toilets Are the usual pit toilet, although they are clean and convenient.
Nathan Greer
Beautiful place easy trails and well kept
Brett Binns
I camped (with a truck camper) and hiked The campground side of the park. The campground is very nice and the camp host has put extra effort into maintaining a couple of snack lean-tos equipped with snack, coffee, nucrowave etc, available by donation. A wonderful and unique touch. The trails supported hiking, mountain biking, and has a snowmobile trail passing through too. It's a very extensive trail network with tight and twisted single track for the mountain bikes and larger trails for mixed use. I put in many miles doing a large loop on my one morning there and took a number of photographs. The campground also offers close proximity to Freeport. I am sure we will stay there again, even if just to get rest and break long drives up into multiple days.
Caitlin Geishaker
Great place to take the kids, let them play and get some exercise! Would love to check out the camping sites someday, too!
Wanderlust Wolf
Hike to the summit is short but moderately steep! Lot of connected trails around for a great outdoor time
Mike Jeansddgvhjj
Good place to walk and hike. Dogs welcome and a good playground.
N. Shantia Wright-Gray
This park is small and very near a state road - which makes it somewhat noisy all day long. But it quiets down at night. Most of the campers seem nice and are quiet neighbors.
The gem in this little park is their hospitality. The outhouses and showers are VERY clean, it has a lovely clean kitchen shelter with a microwave, and for a donation - instant coffee and a cooler with drinks. The hosts are helpful and congenial. There are also many well maintained trails - including some up Bradbury Mt.
crystal bradstreet
Amazing experience great hiking for all levels. Puppy loved it.
Will R
Great place to visit! Lots of hiking trails, there's a playground, the have restrooms, picnic tables, camping on the other side.
Luke Flanagan
A casual escapade beneficial for civilians weary of their morose days. Those who wish to escape the sapping monotony of society wander these paths in hopes to unearth their archaic connection to Earthland. Muddy and moist.
Luke Doane
Awesome place with great views and hikes. I love to camp here its awesome.
Michael Krapovicky
Beautiful, wonderful spot for a quick hike or a lengthy sojourn in the woods!
SOULDAN WILSAN
Beautiful and unique experiences! It was so great to be in the top, not have to be scared not to make it to the end. One side was almost like for beginners hikers. I love the nurture there and I will definitely plan to have many more visits 🥰 …
Michael Williams
Walked on the northern loop trail 1 mile from the parking lot to the summit, easy walk up and we'll maintained. Beautiful view from the top especially with the fall leaf colors coming on. Took the summit trail down .2 miles, easy trail down but steep. They have miles of trails for hiking, skiing, mountain biking, snow shoeing, horseback riding and snowmobiling. Some trails are dedicated to certain sports, and some are multi use. Well maintained campground with bathroom and shower facilities also a spot to wash dishes, something for almost everyone.
Michael Knowles
Plenty of trails with connections to more than the map lots on! Can hike from a few minutes to hours
Dana Magel
Nice big park with loads of hiking and biking trails. Horse trails too.
Lawrence Pareene
Nice park with a lot of hiking trails. Pit toilets are kept up and the showers are nice and hot.
Christopher Taylor
Great place for a short Hike up a nice small mountain with great views at the top!!!!
Morgan Sparks (De4dlyKiss)
Beautiful view from the mountain top. It isn't a tough trek to get up to the summit.
Jennifer Jones
Very beautiful sight.park ranger at the gate made a derogatory comment about our dogs collar—prong. We rescued a puppy-farm puppy and have been working very hard to socialize her. She has made incredible improvement but still needs the prong collar to keep her from bothering other dogs. Park rangers are not aware of individual cases and dogs’ histories so it’s best for them to stay within their job description and act professionally
William Rohdenburg
Great park. Stayed in the group area and had a great time. Great location. Trails were nice and the Park staff was helpful.
Only 2 issues that we had were no TP in the outhouse and the firewood that was available was really pretty wet.
All that being said, I'll definitely go back.
Scott Rizzo
Clean trails. Beautiful forest views. This is by far my favorite park in Maine!
Rhonda Achenbach
We did the short hike up to the overlook. Amazing views!
larsalan
Camped here, it was pretty wild. Didn't get a chance to do many trails. But we did one on bikes that was pretty fun. Campground amenities are very nice, so nice in fact that some Mainers here taken up full time residence. Additionally there was a five hours long screaming match and civil dispute that took the police to respond and resolve at 2-3am. Park seems very nice but some of the behavior I witnessed in my short stay was a bit undesirable.
Robert Daffin
Nice place about a medium on the hike up with a Great view
Nickolas Bray
Great campground. Well sized sites. Clean pit toilets. The hidden gem are the showers. Hot, free and clean! Has an dishwashing area under a nice shelter. Also has decent firewood sale for $5 an armfull. 2 large group campsites on opposite side of road. Helpful friendly staff.
Wade Fraser
A beautiful state park with plenty of trails for all levels. Some easy and some are pretty hard, but nothing to advanced that's for sure. There are trails for both adults and young children. You do have to pay but it's relatively cheap, seeing how it's a state park and everything. There are out houses, picnic tables, and a outside playground for children to enjoy. Most of the trails are pretty short, 2 miles or less to the peak I would say, I don't remember the exact distance. Either way it's a great little state park to enjoy. It's located about 10 minutes from 295.
Steve Sullivan
Is a very small mountain, perfect for beginners to hike. It only takes about a half hour to reach the top. Across the street there is Bradbury Mountain campground. The caretaker is super nice and friendly. It made camping there a wonderful experience and a joy to be in Maine.
Jason Gutekunst
Winding trails, moderate inclines, intriguing views of natural rocky landscape and sweeping views from summit.
Benson Whitney
A Great park and campground. The staff was fabulous. All the Park Rangers did a great job along with the Host. Thanks again
Wendy Paladino
It was awesome, the hiking trails were marked and short and a few to choose from. Dogs welcomed, it was awesome 😊 …
Micah Brown
An easy hike with a breathtaking view. Totally worth the visit
Rebecca Prewitt
Was a very beautiful and clean place. Has plenty of picnic and family oriented spaces. Kid and pet friendly. Has many different trails that are different lengths and difficulties. Bike trails. Really enjoyed it. Highly recommend it if you are visiting the area.
jeremy D
This is a nice place we were over there with the Pre-K from Durham School had a great time playing with the kids excellent weather
Rodney Konkel
Great family state park, the climb is easy but the view is awesome and there are plenty of park benches and outdoor grills to picnic on. I set up my Coleman stove and made a power breakfast before the hike .
M P
Beautiful park and I’ve never found a tick on me there 👌 …
Dominic Rozzi
This is a beautiful, well maintained park. Easy hiking, that is fairly easy to submit. Great spot for a day picnic and hike. camping areas are available as well. Dogs are allowed but should be on a leash. Also a good spot for mountain biking, and cross country skiing in the snowy months.
Greg LeGore
Easy to reach and small but fun state park. Bradbury is best for families, trail runners, dirt bikers, people wanting a quick and easy walk / hike (elevation gain is ~200'). If the main lot is full, use the side lot by taking a left just after passing the park ranger shed. There are flatter trails across the road which provide less challenge but are still a good way to get out to nature in a relatively uncrowded local park.
Christopher Clayton
This is a great place for short hikes with the family. Our 6 year old had no problem doing the summit hike and the 3 year did with minimal assistance. The trail is steep and there were some bumps and bruises. There is a great playground at the bottom and clean picnic area with clean out house style bathrooms.
RICHARD SWIFT
Bradbury Mountain State Park is a very special place. It's so feels the need of a lot of people and their dogs in the greater Portland area. We had a great time even though the weather was cool an overcast. I am very thankful for this place.
I can tell a lot of maintenance has been done on the many trails!
Jon Robichaud
Awesome for the entire family. We went with a 3 yr old, 7 yr old and 2 people over 70. Something for everyone. Short hikes well marked and described or you can make a longer day of it. The girls go to vistas. Does cost to get in to park but it's well maintained. You know your money is going to a good cause.
Chris Shipley
Really nice campground. Level, shaded sites. Clean showers, dish sonk, and toilets. Pets allowed.
Geoffrey Foster
Great place for a short day hike. Not really a mountain, but a nice hill with easterly & southerly panoramic views on outcrop overlooks. Perimeter trails and interior trails of Woodlands. 2 sections of park / East & West sides of route 9 / space on west side for huge groups - camping and nature activities. X country skiing / Horses allowed, pets, and more.
Travis Whitlock
Breathtaking views are abundant atop Bradbury Mountain. Multiple trails provide a choice of difficulty levels to reach the summit. There is plenty of signage and it would be difficult to lose your way.
Chris Sheldon
Great trails to hike, and not to far from the city.
dodie hanchett
Worth the (mile) hike to the summit! Awesome views! We were there in October (fall foliage). Note: seniors get in free, nice surprise as we were over 70.
Jesse Fairbanks
Very nice easy hike. Clean trails. Great for a family!
Thom Lessard
We had our office outing and enjoyed it very much. The trails are extremely easy and well marked. Experienced hikers might scoff at the short trails yet for a small mountain the view is worth the quick stroll. Very friendly and helpful staff as well. The only constructive feedback is to move the port-I-jon away from the picnic tables. We were noticeably downwind.
Kayla Hilkert
Awesome state park for a quick hike and some outdoor time. The entrance fee is a little steep (I believe $6 a person) where most places you pay per car. Still, it's for a good cause and upkeep of a beautiful park. Great for beginners, families, and people to bring their dogs
Kendra Mitchell
Great place to hike alone/ friend's/ family. Summit was beautiful. Lots of bird watchers. Love the loop around walk, picnic tables, great playground, clean porter potty's.
Seth Page
Great place for a quick climb, or to hit up some great trails on the mountain bike.
Bogdan Plesa
Great place to hike, pet friendly.
Shawn Butler
Great little getaway! It doesn't matter if you are looking for a quick hike up the mountain or a longer one across the street. You will have fun and feel relaxed! Campsites are neat and clean and reasonably priced. Showers are available along with a wash station for dirty dishes.
Ethan Rouse
This place is the bee's knees! No matter the season they have great events happening. The mountain biking is great and continuously being maintained, the hikes are easy, family friendly and rewarding once you are at the bald Rock top overlooking the ocean. In the winter some of the trails are maintained the fat tire bikes, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. I would suggest this mountain to anyone looking for fun without the big travel.
Ryan Nelson
Great hiking spot. Both easy and slightly challenging trails up to a great viewing spot. There is a pretty extensive trail system here for hikes. There are a lot of mountain bikers as well, so if you're walking be sure to keep your eyes open. Some spots for grilling and a small playgound as well.
Dorothea Labriesites
Bradbury State Park is a great place to hike. There are tons of trails and parking. There is a playground for kids and a large picnic area. It's a large park with tons of trails for all age and activity levels. Only a few minutes away from shopping and restaurants of downtown Freeport.
Ken E
Great litte mountain. Climbed via the Northern Loop. Gentle rise to top. Great views at top. Descended via Summit trail and was back to the bottom of the mountain within minutes. Steep descent but lots of rock steps built to help with descent.
Kit Johnson
Nice hiking trails with a map and description of each trail. You can pick easier trails and harder ones. I took the Summit trail up to see a beautiful view. It was a steep but pretty easy climb. Then I did the switchback trail down that wasn't as steep but it was more winding.
Brandice Schumacher
Very nice campground. Super friendly rangers and staff. Beautiful well kept camp sites. The bugs were bad but it was summer time and very hot and humid. So bugs are to be expected. They have water at the entrance so you can fill up as it is dry camping.
Michael Garvey
A bite-sized state park close to Freeport, Bradbury is well maintained, family friendly, and provides a trail experience near the "urban" areas of Maine. Picnic areas with grills & picnic tables, a fun little playground, helpful warden officers, & good Mainers who take social distancing seriously. Enjoyable with my 4 year old son!
John Fishel
The view from the summit trail is always spectacular. You can see from Bath to Portland
Andrew M. Robitaille
A great experience for the beginner, intermediate and even novice hikers. Gently sloping enough on the North Trail for the kids and tykes to make it, and steep enough up some trails to give hikers a good sweat on a summer day. This park is a personal favorite for the ornithologists and bird watchers out there. There is a regular group that goes out all year.
Naulia Bennett
This is such a fun hike. I’ve been a handful of times with my boyfriend and every time was better than the last. I recommend bringing water and a snack/or lunch to eat up top!! The view is very pretty.
Eric Gunn
Enjoyed my first time biking at Bradbury. Good mix of trails. Some find it's a bit rooty, but it's fun if you like that sort of thing (I do). Interesting bridge rides, some narrow but had ride arounds. Good climb up the mountain proper. Not too long or steep, but it's some work. Mountain side has many more hikers, so important to be careful and courteous. Especially best to hold back on the descent.
High Street Radio
Great little hike to the top of the mountain not a big summit sort easy for anyone. awesome view of Portland anytime, Sunrise was beautiful. Right off the highway so convenient for anyone passing through. Good place to blaze up.
April Fine
We hike here often and have had some great times with our dogs, friends and family. Beautiful view from the top! Friendly staff at entrance offered us a map! Grounds are kept clean and bathrooms as well.
Benjamin Moxcey
Great easy to moderate hiking trails for the whole family! Very busy on the weekends, so arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon for a more quiet hike. Very beautiful views from the top especially during the fall foliage season!
Andy Winslow
Nice, mostly wooded park with several trails leading to the top of Bradbury. Decent little playground and picnic area with a gazebo. We live nearby and visit every month or two with the kids, it never gets old.
Dennis Gears
Great state park! Close by and convenient. Easy hike no matter which trail. Go during the week less crowded.
Allison Papp
Beautiful overlook at the summit and plenty of different paths to get there depending on the length of hike you want to do.
Jeremy Wright
Nice short hiking trails, longest probably 1.5 or 2 miles and several shorter options. Can see Casco Bay from top of the mountain. Playground and picnic areas. Great place to bring young kids. Dogs welcome on leash.
Thomas Saulnier
This is a truly amazing location. It's only 25 minutes from my house on Brighton in Portland, so it's convenient to folks here in the city. It has a very well marked trail system which offers ample opportunity to wander around feeling out in the middle of nowhere only to emerge from the woods right next to the highway.
Becky Demers
We go to Bradbury a lot because we live close by and the kids can do it. It is a very easy hike to the top. There are some longer trails that loop around if you want. It is good for snowshoeing in the winter. The bugs can be bad some times so pack bug spray.
Ryan Towle
Great place to take the kid for a nice small, easy hike. There is a nice playground, lunch spot as well as the staff and their fun ranger talks.
A.J. Nygren
Even on an overcast day the summit had an excellent view. Trails also very well marked/maintained
Preston Harimon
Awesome place for trail running. 10 mins from Freeport
Matthew Soule
Great little family hike, with a bonus playground at the bottom.
Cindy La
Beautiful hike and views, but make sure every inch of exposed skin has bug repellent. The entrance fee isn't too bad.
Poshin Amatya
Nice short hike. Would be better for fall colors or star gazing.
Brit M Kuhl
My husband and I camped here August 8-10, 2017. It's a very quiet camping area. Toilets are I guess similar to a porta potty, basically a giant septic tank and there is no electric in that facility. Not a big deal but something to be aware of. The showers are great, not buggy at all and very clean. Also a place to wash dishes is very convenient! And also very clean. The actual state park across the street is good for hiking and mountain biking. We are not mountain bikers so we had a hard time finding a place to ride with our hybrid bikes. We did end up finding a paved path in nearby Brunswick which made up for it. So overall it was a really quiet place to stay as long as you're okay with a bit more primitve stay, so just keep that in mind. Definitely a great destination for the outdoorsman or woman!
Gary Christoff
This was one of the best trails I have ever been on. A nice variety of different trails to choose to match your abilities. The Summit is beautiful. The trails are very well marked.
Tristan
This park is clean and has a variety of activities to enjoy including some great trails that offer a mix of easy and challenging climbs. The view at the top is great.
Melynda Wilhelmi
I camped at Bradbury mtn state park. It was Sunday and the out house smelled horrible. The campground is great except for the poop smell and I've been here before when it was less pungent. Needless to say it's a great deal for camping at 15.00 plus tax and fees pet night. Across the street there are beautiful trails to hike or bike.
Mike Hanley
Some of the trails are quite easy and gentle, and some are challenging, so its a nice mix, and a nice view from the top. There are also one-at-a-time bathrooms which is nice for kids, and a playground and picnic area. There are many interesting mushrooms as well.
Corey B
Quiet peaceful and that sweet pine smell throughout. The hikes I went on were relaxing and the hike up the switch back trail was well worth it when I got to the top for that view. I will be coming back for the fall when the leaves turn
Beryl Reid
We visited during the week in the fall. Great hiking! We climbed to the top on one the trails. The view was really nice. The trails are well marked and fairly easy. Parking was easy and its right off the highway.
Rocko Washington
Beautiful place for a scenic hike, the trails are very mild to the top of the mountain on this 30 to 40 minute hike. Once at the top you can see all the way to the ocean on a clear day!!
Brad Fenn
Diverse set of trails with fine views!
Derek Thrasher
$6 a person is a bit expensive for a .5 mile hike to the summitt. We ended up summitting multiple times to make it worth it. There is an overlook at the top which is very spacious and nice. They have a great picnic area and rumored mountain bike trails on the east side so it is definitely possible to spend a good part of your day.
Linda Swift
The conditions today we're absolutely ideal. Thursday February fourth. Especially on the tote Road. We came up the Southridge and that was a blast as well. Bradbury Mountain is a wonderful gift. We are so grateful. We love it's so much we're very happy to drive up from Biddeford
DF ELDREDGE
Nice large sites. Trails only good for hikers and Mt bikers, not even hybrids. Lots of roots and rocks. We love to dry camp but a dump station would have been nice.
A Hattaway
Bradbury Mountain State Park is a community gem. Whether you are looking for a quick jaunt in the woods, or want to spend half or a full day hiking, Bradbury has something for everyone. There is a small fee to enter the park, which I am happy to pay to enjoy such a well maintained nature playground. There's a picnic area and a small campground, if you are interested in a longer stay.
Alexandria Cook
First time being there, trails are very well maintained and makes a lovely walk. We spent the whole day there with my dog Peter and it was awesome. Great for beginners and pros!
Julia Johnston
A great park for any level. A short walk to the top is worth the view or a nice longer walk around the boundary Trail is also beautiful
A Smith
Short and sweet little hike. Not too strenuous and not too easy. It was enjoyable.
Greg Montgomery
Nice park close to Portland. Large campsites. Water, nice pit and one real bathroom. Firewood available do not bring your own. We stayed at the walk in very nice.
Prashant A
Nice marked trails and panoramic views.. Northern loop the way to go if you have have small kids in tow.. Took the South ridge up to the summit.. Some sections are steep with treks through stretches of streams on bare rock..
Matt
Have loved this place since I've been a kid
Ken Kleinman
One star deducted for the entry fee ($8 for two "Maine residents" in a car), but this is a wonderful spot. We stayed on the gate side of the road. There are several different paths to a great view, plus picnic areas, restrooms, and mowed areas.
Sam Michaud
Great trails and views for a short hike. The park is located a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Freeport. Open year round for all season hiking, camping skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Always clean and family friendly.
Steve Holland
We had a wonderful hike up and down the mountain trails.
Parking lot was small so on a busy sunday that can be a problem.
Had a picnic lunch at the tables. My daughter had a wonderful time.
Michelle Carrier
I enjoyed our leisurely stroll up the 2 mile trail to summit! We had a low key group with us and i brought blueberries to eat on the top...they were yummy! It had a brief flash rainstorm just before we arrived so we were uncertain if the rain brought us those pesky little BABY BLACK FLIES or if it was the late afternoon. They were bad on the way down!! Next trip will be early in the morning... Can't wait!!
It's a lovley walk in the woods with plenty of lush green carpeting building its way all around... unusual sites & sounds in nature one must take the opportunity to investigate what they hear or see!
Grab your nature books, spring had sprung! Along
with a fair amount of poision ivy that was just turning leaves red..
Be safe, be curious, be considerate.
Jonathan Tidman
A beautiful day hike destination with birds eye view of the area. Medium grade trails and not too busy. Year round multiple activity Park. Mountain biking, hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing. All at a easy access spot.

Lovely hike up the 0.2 mile Summit trail, then returned on the 2 mile Border trail--perfect! Many trails that are varied lengths so you can pick and choose. Map is most helpful!

Amanda Moore
Camped here overnight. Was quiet. Great showers! Vault bathrooms. Hiking opportunities.
Stephen Hoy
Popular spot to picnic, hike, bike, camp, even snowshoe and Nordic ski, if the weather is right. Children enjoy the play areas. I like to hike up the switchback trail, cool down on the summit while I scope the horizon, then head down the loop trail. From 15 March to 15 May, you can sit alongside the hawk watch observers. The Boundary trail connects to Tryon Mtn, nearly as high as Bradbury.
Donna Jackson
Beautiful place love the hike and playground. Kid friendly fun
Sharon Stacey

Michael Gair
Beautiful park great for the whole family.
Bruce Nelson
When I have to get into the woods asap this is my go to place in the greater Portland metroplex (!!!). The park has changed so much over the years and not always in a positive way nor in a negative way. However if, when visiting Bradbury Mt SP, you can allow yourself to leave your daily irritations behind then the spirit that moves through all things will gladly meet you here and provide you with comfort and insight that so often bypasses us by. What changes would I make here? I'd conduct midnight walks to the summit during certain times of the year and during those semi-uncertain times that crop up. I'll leave it to you to figure out that schedule.!
Cody and Ashley Adams
Perfect trails for inexperienced hikers and families with children! Loved it. 3 adults taking 13 kids ages 14 years to 3 months!
Katrina V
Nice short hike, great for beginners and kids. Beautiful, easily accessible view!
Dan Rembert
Great spot for a quick hike, the lookouts are getting over grown and limiting the view some but it's still nice
Christa Montgomery
Small campground not to far out of the way. There are several hiking trails in the park. A covered sink area for washing dishes that also provides shelter from the weather. Water spigots, vault toilets, and firewood available. There is a highway nearby and you can hear the traffic, but it is not too busy later at night.
Ian Maines

Mahrissa Verrill
Very scenic. The parking lot was very clean & neat. Plenty of parking! The trails were so beautiful & the scene at the top was rewarding.
mark shearing
Mountain biking is rough from a Midwest guy, lots and lots of roots and a sprinkling of boulders and rocks, heaps of erosion hence the roots. Oh and lots of skinnies over swamps. Hesitate if you have a hard tail or less, pretty flat though.
The park itself is beautiful, east side was empty during the week.
Kevin Maybery
Bradbury is a family park with fields to play in and lots of hiking trails Most not covering long stretches with an easy to climb to the top of mountain .a ledge at top gives a nice view especially during foliage.rt 9 has been around for along time so there r a couple historic sites tucked by park.there is also a camping area there
