Reviews of Back Cove Park
About 3.6 miles if you run 1 lap but you can pick up extra traffic-free mileage by heading under the bridge out towards eastern promenade. Been a favorite spot for many years.
My dog and I love it when a day trip to Portland includes a walk around Back Cove. The only thing missing is more trash cans on the walk, to dispose of "droppings" and it would be great if all the dog water fountains worked.. but we plan accordingly now.
I liked the walk around the cove, except that there was a lot of construction going on around both the near (from the parking lot) and far side of the cove. Also, part of the trail goes along the southbound shoulder of major route, Rt. 95 (or maybe it's Rt. 295). Some nice views of Portland and easy/free parking.
Nice view and nice trails but not much else to do.
I like to bike around the 3 and a half mile trail around the cove.
Back Cove is a nice walking, running, and biking trail along the Back Cove in Portland. The trail is about 4 miles around. Be careful on the narrow bits as bikers and runners are fairly likely to sneak up on you. The scenery around the cove is nice, but a little lacking when the tide is low and it gets a bit smelly. The houses around the North side are very nice and I much prefer that section. Great for dog walks as well. A great way to get some fresh air away from the insanity of downtown.
There is plenty of parking, so even when it's crowded you can still find a parking space. The park has an obstacle course you can run through and the trail is about 3.5 miles long. The views are beautiful all around the trail. When the tide is low, it gets a bit smelly, but there's usually a good breeze.
Nice open space for people to roam around, play etc... The highway is nearby so if you're looking for a quiet place this might not be it.
Don't forget it's a good idea to check with landowners and the town parks and rec. before entering property, you never know who will get upset these days.
Great place to exercise. Pretty busy normally. Great views with a 3.5 mile loop trail around the cove.
Back Cove is a tidal bay with a 3.5 mile loop trail completely off road serving walkers, runners, and casual cyclists. It has a park with a series of exercise stations, and many benches placed around the loop trail for those who want to rest and enjoy the view. At high tide the cove is full; at low tide it's mostly mud. It's a great place to be outside near the heart of the city.
Super clean free parking nice trail. Walk it all the way around and you'll come to the Maine Narrow Gauge Rail Road. Buy a ticket and help keep Maine history alive!
One of the best scenic routes I've ever run. On a nice sunny day, don't miss a chance to bask in the beauty of the north east at Back Cove bay's trail.
Really nice area to walk around. Currently construction is happening so there was no place to really sit down and enjoy the view. Parking lot nearby.
Great sunsets
What a gorgeous park to visit..
This was my first time visiting Portland,Maine and I loved every second of it..
Can't wait to get back on the old greyhound and come back.
Nice trail to walk or run on, with a couple water fountains that are on seasonally. If it's hot or sunny out, bring a hat, as there is very little shade.
My Grandson and my puppy and I loved this trail..such a beautiful day to walk it as well.
Great place to walk or jog. The loop is 3.5 miles long with a bridge walk way connecting . That makes for a water view and breeze the whole trip.
A few nice obstacles to try. Wish there was more. Used to have a water fountain at the park that is gone. So fill h2o bottle while walking around the boulevard.
Probably the best jogging trail I've ran on. It's wicked muddy around here after some rain but it is still a nice casual few mile jog.
Great place to run. Though with Portland's combined sewer/stormwater system overflowing into the Back Cove, the park can be a little smelly.
Best trail in portland for bicycling, jogging, and even strollers (just please dont have double dates with strollers, theres more people on the trail then just you guys!!!)
It's a great place to walk and enjoy the view as long as the dirt track isn't wet otherwise it's a muddy mess lol
Nice jog/walk path, beautiful views, smells of sewage entering water at places but that's just a small blip.
DURING THE DAY IT IS THE CLOSEST A CITY CAN COME TO A BEACH. THE SPOT WAS DESIGNED AROUND PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AND ON THE BEST DAYS THERE IS PLENTY OF FOOT TRAFFIC.
An incredible dirt walking path around back bay. Always busy - walkers, runners kids in bikes.
Beautiful path around the cove
Went for a run while visiting Portland. Beautiful location, pretty easy run.
Nice place for running
This is my favorite place to bike. From here me and my husband go to Portland have lunch or dinner and come back.
Great trail for walking, running and biking (even on a cloudy Easter day!)
Great open space with an enjoyable jogging path around the water.
Definite favorite short run spot. Lots of people watching, nearly six kilometers around.
Well maintained and a nice trail/course right of of 295 and main roads.
Needs a little work. But its a very nice long walking area
It's a good place to run, walk, jog and just hang out
Amazing views of the city at night
Great
Great place to visit and good place to go and just be in the moment.
3 mile loop around the lake
Nice relaxing place near a not so relaxing city.
Daughter loves to walk here. Loves the park.
A lovely little park by Portland's beautiful back bay.
Nice place to run in the summer. Especially in the morning
Beautiful sunset. Soccer fields and jogging trail.
One of the best places to go jogging in Portland.
Nice place to jog, run or walk
Cool place to check out when it's nice and sunny!
Had a blast like to go there again
Beautiful space, I love it here.
Nice walking trails.
If you like the ocean breeze,,,, here you go
Walk walk... walk. Oh my goodness. Too much walking.
I refuse to accept that this is called the Back Cove. It's the Bay. The Back Bay.
It's pretty good.
