Reviews of Turkey Swamp Park
rented 2 single kayaks on the saturday after labor day. park had some foot traffic but overall, we had a peaceful paddle only passing 2 other groups. beautiful surroundings and easy maneuvering. afterwards we did a small hike (1.2 miles) which was just enough to enjoy the day. a few bugs but to be expected given the time of year and climate. overall really enjoyable day. affordable and fun for something to do outdoors
This was my 1st time camping since I was 10 yrs old!! I had such a wonderful experience at Turkey Swamp Park!!! The Rangers were very helpful and pleasant. Our (my 19yr old daughter and my chihuahua) camp site was clean and leveled (tent camping). Our site was D7 we were feet away from the playground and Restrooms/ Shower Rooms. The restrooms are air-conditioned and maintained. We had electric/water hook-up, fire ring and picnic table. (Note: you definitely need a super long water hose. The water spigot is at the entrance of the pull through). Our site was spacious and pretty much private. You're definitely not on top of your neighbors. There is a lake, a couple of trails, super peaceful and lot's of trees!!! We met another Mother and daughter duo camping across from us. They were super friendly!! Overall I really enjoyed my stay. I highly recommend Turkey Swamp Park and I'll be staying here when I return back to NJ!!
Turkey Swamp Park is over 2,000 acres that was developed with campers in mind. In the Family Camping area, there are 64 wooded family campsites and in the Group Camping area there are 6 campsites that can accommodate about 40 people per campsite. You can reserve an area for a group party or picnic. There is a beautiful 17 acre lake for fishing, boating and ice skating during the winter when safe skating signs are posted. You can rent canoes, kayaks, rowboats and paddle boats during the summer months. The park has easy, moderate and fitness trails with exercise stations. There are some parts of the trail that have very high grass even on the center of the path. I had to turn around a few times and go back the way I came to avoid the high grass. At the end, it also happened that I was too far in the trail and had to go through the high grass and the ticks took advantage of this. Fun Fact: The park was named Turkey after a nearby town and the town has since changed its name to Adelphia. The Swamp name came about because the thick forest with its high water table forms bogs wherever the land dips.
We liked this park a lot. The bathrooms were clean and showers were hot with good water pressure. We hiked every trail in this park and all were easy however they were not very well maintained. It had rained and there were lots of deep puddles and mud through out the park. The trees and weeds were over grown and made walking difficult on the pathways. We spoke to a local person and he said none of the trails were ever covered with mulch or other ground cover to help with the mud problem. We saw an area with piles of sawdust that could have been used to cover the mud on the trails. That said, we did enjoy Alder, Old Lenape and the Link Trails. We were also able to ride our bikes on all the roads throughout the park. The boardwalk at the lake was beautiful and we had fun renting a paddle boat.
One problem: all the sites are pull thrus and the roads are one way, so if your site is on the wrong side of the road your hookups are on the wrong side of your rig and your door opens onto the street not into your campsite. It was really crazy, so most people just ignored the rules and drove anyway they wanted. It must happen all the time because the staff totally ignored it too. 😵💫🤔
Positives: Basic state park—no paving—large shaded sites and fairly flat, fire ring, picnic table, water & electric, laundry (wash station) trash cans at each site
Park along the lake BEAUTIFUL with wooden boardwalk, boat rentals? fishing, GREAT playgrounds & ample trails
Negatives: Bathhouse showers need remodeling—fairly clean
Dump Station needs pumped out or something—sewer smell when we were outside when the wind was blowing in our direction.
Also thought camping price a little much for the campground. We would stay there again.
Absolutely love this place !!! Been going here 4 years straight for vacations. Lake and trails are amazing. Great people who run the place (Rangers). Great price for Camping that comes water hook up and with electric 30amp and 20amp service. Bathrooms are greatly cooled by A/c and always clean. 35 minutes from the beach that you get completely free parking and beach access included from camping in the county!! A $10 parking and $8 a person value for free !! You can’t beat it . Just spent a week at the site C-5 and had a blast . 1.5 hrs from cape May free zoo (As long you take garden state highway that is) and 1.5 hrs from ocean city/Beach
I love Turkey Swamp Park. Great place for a picnic. Nice place for a hike or a ride around the beautiful lake in a paddle boat. Beautiful scenery. These pics are from late fall. Imagine in the spring and summer.
We have been coming to these campgrounds for years. It is well maintained and the park rangers are super friendly. The campgrounds offer bathrooms and showers which are great. Definitely one of my favorite areas in freehold.
Nice smallish Came out with the family had a nice time decent lake you can You can read boats there are walking trails places the camp on all decent place to go don’t travel from but if you’re in the area it’s worth it to stop by Thank you for reading my review please give me a like down below
Hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, horse riding, picnicking, kids playing, hiking with dog/dogs (on leash)...you can really have fun in this park with such beautiful lakes and wooded trails, playgrounds and picnic areas. The vending machines are running, bathrooms are open too. It’s a good place for family outdoors.
I was even pleased to see hand sanitizer dispensers by the playgrounds. Kudos to the park management!
Some area must be reserved for activities. The office is open.
However, it’s a season full of ticks everywhere outside. So, to prevent catching tick-borne disease, make sure you spray repellent beforehand and check all over afterwards. Take a shower and change immediately when you get home. Also, toss your outdoor clothes in the washing machine and dry in high heat to make sure all ticks you may have got hidden in your clothes are killed.
Had a great day at Turkey Swamp Park. We fished the lake, had some success. The boat house has canoes, kayaks, peddle boats and row boats. Trails start close to the parking lot. There are campsites but we haven't tried them yet.
Very nice park, also very big! Didn't even get to see alot of it. There's a lake for fishing & boat rentals & several playgrounds! Park is kept very clean!
The lake is beautiful, and the archery range is a lot of fun. Bring your bow it's a great weekend place
Beautiful swamp, beautiful park. Affordable camping. Very affordable boat rentals will help you reach some very stellar views. NATURALLY ACCORRING LOTUSES GROW IN THIS SWAMP.
Great little campground. Not crowded at the end of September. The park has plenty of things to do for the whole family. Hiking, biking, lake sports, etc..Verizon coverage is minimal AT&T was better but not great. Full tree cover so can’t use Starlink. No sewer.
Turkey Swamp is the nicest campground that I know of in NJ. Water and electric at every site, and super clean restrooms. It also has a nice pond for fishing and boating and miles of great hiking trails. You can even bring your horse to this park.
We like Turkey Swamp park. We go every week with my family.
This park is so nice! There is so much to do here. My dog loved the lake and the trails. It is very clean and trash and recycling cans are available throughout the park. The bathrooms were quite decent considering how busy it was while I was there. All the trails are nicely marked and even if you go a bit off trail, you tend to either cross another one or find yourself in a campground/parking lot. Trails did get a little confusing if you crossed a road but if you follow the road, it leads you back to a campground or parking lot. Kid and (leashed at all times) pet friendly. We will definitely be back!
I went to an event with the family, where I discovered that this park has an outstanding, very friendly staff, and a clean bathroom. That's enough for me. The lake was nice too. I'm just disheartened by the fact that there were no turkeys or a swamp. It's misleading. The kids expected to search for Shrek. Oh well!
I could live here what a peaceful place to spend time and disconnect
Turkey trail put on my Veronica was fun for the kids. Nice park. Two other park rangers seemed a bit much on a sarurday
Very quiet and peaceful park that has lots of geese and you can rent boats in season only. Also a great place to do some fishing and find mushrooms. The park is clean other than the geese droppings.
I love Turkey Swamp, perfect for a small group camping! Especially great during Covid, this was a great but spacious get-away.
-The campsites are positioned in little coves, so you have privacy even if others are camping.
-The bathrooms & laundry room were always very clean and well-run.
-The park is organized and well-staffed (felt very safe).
-We camped during the week, so it wasn't crowded, which was ideal.
I can't wait to go back!
Loved it at this park. We got bbq grill , we cooked bbq and also made our tea on it. Which turns out too good. Trail was good. We walked for 15 minutes.
Families were having fun time. Especially water area surroundings were peaceful. People were fishing there. Kids were fishing .
Nice place over all.
Very beautify park located in Monmouth County. You wouldn’t believe that this park is located very close to major roads and residential areas. You rarely hear any road noise. Feels like you are in the middle of nature.
The lake on premises is man made and has ample stock of fish from your typical sunniest to large mouth bass.
Can’t comment on the campgrounds for I didn’t try them.
This is a nice local park with plenty of local trails. I don't think there's a real biking trail that even kids could ride on but I could be wrong - this is purely from experience.
Some of the trails are definitely close - 8-10 feet away from the waterline. When it's hot, be wary as we always spot the Northern Water Snake on such trails. Fear not, the Northern Water Snake is not venomous.
There are a couple of nice children's playground and a water canoe, kayak and paddle boat renting service which costs $15.50 per hour but is cash only.
Really nice wooded park with 8+ miles of trails and wildlife viewing opportunities. Will be back to explore more of the trails!
Turkey Swamp Park is a hidden gem 💎 in Freehold!! The staff are very professional and they keep the park in pristine shape.
Pull through Rv campsite with full hookups, 30/50 amp. They have some awesome trails!! …
We've camped at many parks and this is one of the best. This park is wonderful. The camp sites are large and there is a lot of space between neighbors. It is definitely the largest amount of space between lots that I've ever seen. The bathrooms were always very clean and very hot showers. We loved the boardwalk and provided boats. Nothing negative to say. One of the best things for us was that we were able to fit our giant 20 by 20 tent with a lot of space still available for other structures.
NJ is constantly surprising me with all of the cool places to visit. I never realized there were so many parks that you could camp in. Turkey Swamp covers a lot of ground and has several camping and picnic areas. There is a small lake on which you can rent boats for fishing or just getting out on the water. They have a couple playgrounds for kids. I need to add this to my list for fall camping!!
It's a great park for a picnic or some fishing. You can rent a kayak or a paddle boat and have some fun in the sun.
Beautiful park it has camping, fishing hiking and playgrounds a great place to chill and have parties
We stayed here 4 nights while visiting family and were very happy...so much so, that we intend to stay again when we visit! The sites are all pull thru. Ours had electric and water, our preference. Sites are generous, but all sand, if that matters to you. Nicely shaded.
Some of the best times of my childhood were spent camping at Turkey Swamp Park with my family. Now I take day trips to the lake for picnics and fishing. It's nice to see the campground hasn't changed one bit. State parks are so well kept.
Wow, beautiful RV park, of the nine we stayed at this felt the closest to nature.
No wifi within the campground itself.
Whilst we had water and power we could sadly not hook up to both as the tap is so far away from the power that even parking between the two meant that we could still only have one. Not a massive issue as we were only there for one night so made sure the water talk was full. We would have needed a double length hose. The one we had was fine for all the other Parks we had stayed in.
Turkey swamp is a great place to take the kids for fishing. They have a great dock and a large variety of fish here. Always fun times
I am a frequent flier at turkey swamp. I fish here, run, walk my dog, picnic, and take leisurely strolls alone. Beautiful park and they always have park rangers on duty. I love walking through the park and smelling the fresh air. I actually believe they even have a drone flying spot (for anyone interested). And they even host random things that go on in town. I recommend this place for any ages
Great park with great trails for walking. It's peaceful in the winter months, not sure about the summer though as there are plenty of picnic tables and play areas for kids. It's very clean.
Beautiful park. Plenty of space between sites. Shower house was very clean. Ill be going back!
Beautiful park , kept clean, fishing and boat for rent, ( I have bever seen anyone catch a fish though) the lake is gorgeous and plenty of areas to hike and sit and enjoy nature
Wow! How come I waited so long to camp here! Great camping area so close to home! Beautiful lake area. We are staying at site C-1 and we were able to park a 32ft pull along camper with ease and leveled. Water and electric hook ups worked perfectly. Definitely bring a LONG hose! 100ft just so u don’t have to struggle. Every staff member I met was so kind and really seemed to enjoy their job. Kids of all ages can find something to do here. Already booked our next stay here!
A very busy park with Frisbee tournaments, hikers, and dog walkers. Miles to spread out. The main parking area has plenty of spots to set out to.
Good place for group events.
Nice lake, a lot of trails. There is a nice camp ground.
Great family fun. You and the fam can camp in a tent or at the cabins! Great family experience! We highly recommend it!
Just a nice park to take a walk or sit by the lake or take a boat out on the lake. Picnic areas, playgrounds, something for everyone.
We camped for three nights over Labor Day weekend. It is a great family campground. It was great that they had water, electric and garbage including recycling at every site. We are tenters but it is also great that every site is a pull through so if you have a camper it's nice and easy to pull through. Sites are large. Bathrooms and playground are ok, which is why I am giving a 4. Very impressed.
Beautiful park. Very quiet with 100% pull through sites. Very clean.
Beautiful fall day at Turkey Swamp. Nice place to walk your dog or cats.
Met with friends for a planned gathering Despite high heat it was pleasant and.comfortable under the gazebo and plenty of shady trees. Lots to do here Makes for a nice outing with kids and.or.significant.other
It was great. Very nice, very good and very clean park. Very helpful employee. Thank you so much!!!
A beautiful place, but the Campground facilities and rangers are in need of updating. The campgrounds are beautiful, the setting is scenic, but the bathhouse is revolting. It reeks of mold and mildew and the 3 showers have mold and mildew all over the walls. A little bit of bleach or wet and forget would go a long g way. The rangers were extremely rude when asked about accommodating us for a few more days, I get it, policy, but don't compare us to homeless people when we ask for a two day extension. In addition the park requires a lock code to exit after hours. The lock is finicky, the code changes every Tuesday. They forgot to tell us the new code the last day we were there and I sat at the gate for over half an hour. Terrible. Why can't they tell me the code over the phone!? Net net. If you are staying a short period of time, have your own restroom, and don't need to come and go after hours or interact with the rangers, this place is amazing.
Great place for a family walk, camp sites are clean and safe. Can't get closer to nature is you love hikes and beautiful natural surroundings.
Great hiking on flat trails with some mud. Can be buggy in the summer. I usually hike 5 miles. Good bathroom. You can also rent canoe's in the summer.
So beautiful it is . I will visit again in the summer
Quiet park, A1 is a big sandy site. Water and electric only, Water spigot is far, so bring x long hose. Beautiful lake officially opens May 1st for boating. They have hiking trails, and a field for archery, not sure if they offer rentals.
Turkey Swamp is one of my favorite county parks. The lake is beautiful and all the trails here are easy but still interesting. In the summer season you can rent non motorized boats. The playgrounds here would be a good time for young children. I have never camped here but I often see RVs and campers here enjoying the outdoors. A really beautiful place to visit!!!
Campsites are spaced out nicely, very clean, very quiet.Rangers are very friendly and accommodating.
Beautiful Park, helpful friendly Ranger (Scott) and if I wasn't expected elsewhere I would definitely be spending the time here. Smokey would be proud of him!!!
Very nice park! Extremely kid friendly. They also have cheap boating opportunities as well. Kayaking, canoeing, row boats are all available for very affordable cost. There are lots of places for the kids to play. The restrooms are well maintained.
Great hiking, lots of other activities around. Go there, spend the day.
Perfect park. Go fish, kayak, hike. Plenty of quiet places to relax in the sun or shade. Very clean park, and let's keep it that way! Whatever you carry in, carry it out!
Just a great place to relax, camp, bbq, or spend time by the lake..
Relatively undiscovered. No crowds. Small but feels bigger. Convenient. Nice pond. Clean. Underutilized lodge with crackling fire.
The Turkey Swamp Park is my daughters and I favorite park near home. Charming, quiet, anytime of the year.
It was a good place for a quick hike with kids.
Nice spot for a picnic on the lake and some canoeing in the summer. Play grounds for the kids. Trails are OK but there are lots of mucky segments and minimal elevation changes .
My stay was great except for the weather. Turkey Swamp Park has many walking trails and the camp grounds are great for easy access to all other amenities in the park. They are also all located in their own area, away from the daily visitors. The park rangers are great, and very helpful. The park is also well maintained, clean and very safe.
This is a great county park. Plenty of hiking trails, a pond for fishing, and a campground. I was here for the archery range which is well maintanined. Highly recommend to spend a couple hours enjoying the outdoors.
Trails are so fun and beautiful! I love the benches by the lake too!
A really nice park in the local area. I always love coming here!
They had a playground with plenty of room to run around. We also enjoyed the lake with it's wooden boardwalk. There are a few nature trails for those who want to hike through them, but we didn't try them. We brought kids of various ages for an extended family reunion and everyone had a great time.
Beautiful park! Our favorite camping spot. Staff is friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms and laundry facility. Playground, hiking trails. Lake is good for fishing and kayaking. Firewood and laundry tokens for sale at the office. Campsites come with water, electric, picnic table, and fire pit with grill.
This park is my old standby...i always am pleased after my stay. The bathrooms are always clean for the most part. Assistance is always around. The park rangers are always pleasant and accomodating to the best of their abilities. My fave home away from home...just tried my new camper there to learn it :).
Peaceful, nice hiking trails, big camping spots, and polite employees.
Fun camping grounds. Restrooms are clean. Camp sites spread out... social distancing well done!
This is an amazing park. There are so many activities to do such as, trails, paddle boats, fishing, camp sites, and more! there is also a nice playground for kids to play on. I recommend this park if you want to explore nature, or just relax in the shade.
Long way to walk the kayaks, but clean and pleasant
Had a great day. Bbq area clean, fished but no one caught anything, that was a disappointment!! Brother and family took out a canoe. Well kept grounds, bathroom was dirty. Will definitely go again. Hope they stock the lake with fish!!
We had a fantastic time at the sandy run picnic area there is not a lot of space to run but there are a lot of activities to do there.
Loved it the paddling and rowing experience was just wonderful. The lake was not so deep and so that was comforting. The place was quiet that day and just rowed to the middle of the lake and let the wind and boat do the rest. It was a relaxing experience
Nice gem great for low impact hiking and outings.
This place is a campground as well as a park with tons of space for picnicking. I love that there are paddle boats you can take out on the lake for an affordable rate.
Not being able to eat at a restaurant (pandemic) we picked up something to eat here at one of their picnic areas. This place is large and has different sections. You can reserve picnic tables for events at cost or just go when it's not too crowded and eat at one of the picnic tables. We enjoyed our meal then walked around. It seems to be popular with the locals. There were many fishing and easily catching fish. The lake was a nice size to spread out. The trees keep you covered through most of the park which is probably great for hot days. We saw a lot of people hiking. All around great place. I'd like to explore more areas next time.
Rented a row boat. Really fun yet peaceful! Great service with boat rentals.
The campgrounds are nicely spaced out and separated by woods. The bathrooms are clean and added new A/C which makes a big difference. The shower water is perfectly lukewarm. Has nice hiking trails, lake for boating and fishing. No swimming.
Everyone there was friendly and I had no issues or problems with any guest. Its a wonderful place to go with family. The camp ground is huge and has main office hours and any concerns during your stay there. Its affordable. Alot of fun activities to keep the kids busy . I plan on visiting very soon . Reconnecting with mother nature is a must and #turkeyswamp is one of the top recommendations when spending a couple nights camping.
This is my favorite park in Monmouth County. There are great walking trails, plenty of picnic areas, boat rentals and several playgrounds.
The rangers are so nice. The place is very clean and well-maintained. Easy access into the campsites and RV sites. They have lots of activities. There's a lake here with the biggest fish I've ever seen. Plenty of play sets for the children to play. Bathrooms and laundry very clean. All the staff here are very personable and very nice. I definitely recommend this state park.
Great park for easy hiking trails. Dog friendly but must be on leash. They have paddle boats, canoes and kayaks for rental. Fishing is allow but get your license. Park office sells worms. Large camping area for tents and RVs. Playgrounds picnic areas with grills shelter building in case it rains or they are running a program.
Very nice place! Great for kids!!
Lots of wooded camping sites with pull-thru for trailers. Electric on each site, but better bring 100' water hose :( if not more, if you're looking to hook up directly: Water spiget is between sites. Camping spots are pretty level, too. Bathrooms were clean. Playground for kids available. Lots of hiking trails. Lots of activities available for campers & the community.
Love this park! Rangers are friendly, all areas are kept clean, camping, group camping, playgrounds grills, fishing, hiking trails, picnic areas including one you can rent for a private event. This place has it all including ticks. Spray yourself and check clothes and body after being there
We camped here a week in our RV. It was so peaceful and nice. Lots of nice shade. The rangers do a great job checking on things and keeping it picked up. Bring an extra long water hose as the tap is shared between 2 camps so can be a distance. There are lots of ticks here as its wooded. Nice hiking trails and nice kayaking on lake.
Well maintained and clean. Flat sites with good hookups for car/rv campers, nice trees for hammockers like me and plenty of space between lot numbers. Bathrooms, showers and laundry were clean and more modern than expected.
Great place to go for a hike. We went after it had rained a day ago so large parts of trail were very mushy - but we loved our walk :)
Beautiful natural park - under used. Great for winter hikes.
5/30/22 Beautiful day, park much busier but still lots of elbow room. Fishing, boat / kayak rental, picnic areas, and playgrounds make for a great day in the park.
Great Park and Campground! Bring 100ft of RV water hose as some of the water hookups are shared between sites. Very clean restroom and a great playground for the kiddos!
Very nice park, campground, lake, etc.
Beautiful setting, lake is a great view and a good time. One takeaway is the cleanliness of the showers, there was a bandaid on the ground for days in one of them. Also there is an issue with mold in multiple shower stalls in the women's bathroom. Since it is all tile, they could at least take a power washer with some sort disinfectant and hose it down 1-2 times per month would be helpful.
Great park!!! Can rent pedal boats and make a barbecue!!!
Amazing place filled with fresh air and beautiful nature
Calm place. A walk here is a good break from day-to-day work.
This is a great local park. It has nice friendly trails for the family which were well kept - even in January. The park is free and has free parking. There are a number of playgrounds for the kids and plenty of places to picnic. This park was great even on a fall weather like day in January. Monmouth County keeps up its tradition of having an exceptional park system!
Turkey Swamp campground is one of the better of the campgrounds in the area. Though they do offer a handful of activities theres not a whole lot within the grounds to do if you're looking for a feel like the resort campgrounds give with pools and game areas and the little stores, it is much quieter here. They do offer paddle boats and conoes/row boats, and it is my understanding that they do allow you to bring your own. They allow catch and release fishing and have an enormous trail run with workout stations and a couple of picnic areas. Sometimes you will see horses on the trails as well with their riders. Very nice trail that can be walked or biked. They have their park rules, but generally do not bother you as long as you are respectful. All camp sites have water but no sewer. They provide a dump station free to use for registered campers, and for a charge for non registered visitors. Most of the rangers are very nice, there are 1 or 2 that always have their grumpy pants on, but otherwise generally nice staff. There are 2 play grounds and they have bathroom and shower amenities. All camper sites are put through which is extremely convenient and though the roads seem narrow they are actually decent size and we've never had a problem with our 28 foot camper. Very nice campground, we've been going for years.
Beautiful, scenic park with a big lake, natural trails, open field, multiple playgrounds and restroom facilities. Fishing is permitted with license if over 16. Well worth a visit.
Ultimate Frisbee tournament, so hundreds of people and dozens of cars ... The rangers were friendly and efficient ... The park is wonderful for such an event
Found this hidden gem at random. Stopped by for a stroll while in the area. This place is magical. If you like nature and open space, and to feel disconnected for a while, you cant go wrong with Turkey Swamp. They have camping available, and decent parking, but the trails are just great
Large sites, very well maintained. Garbage can at each site collected daily. Nice spacing between sites for privacy. Several playgrounds and great boating options. Nice hiking trails and very friendly staff. There's ice for purchase and firewood in bundles. Adjacent to many fun options as well as grocery shopping. Shady, flat sites with sand.
Trails for horseback riding are shared with hikers and they can be a bit small in some places. The open fields are fantastic for trotting and the canter! Clean and quiet!
Our first camping experience was at Turkey Swamp over twenty years ago. So, when the opportunity came up to stay here while traveling we were thrilled that they had a site for us. This is a GREAT campground and park. Sites are large and easy to access. (We have a 34 foot class A motorhome) Electric and water hookups are available. There are playgrounds, laundry room, showers, boat rentals and picnic areas. The park rangers patrol frequently and there is a great family environment. We were pleased to find that Turkey Swamp was everything we first experienced many years ago.
Beautiful and well maintained. Camp sites are spacious and semiprivate. Great playgrounds for kids. Nice lake for fishing. Close to a number of sites related to the Battle of Monmouth. Battleview Orchards nearby has peaches in spring and pumpkins and apples each fall.
When my family and I went here in 2017, it was raining and thundering on one of our first nights. The campsite we were in had a massive dent and so a good amount of water flowed under our tent and we were surrounded in a puddle.
Gorgeous campground with lots of trees and privacy. Large pull through spots with tons of room. 2 really nice playgrounds within a few minutes walk of our campsite, and a lovely small lake where you can fish and rent little boats. 3 washers/ dryers by the bath house. (Pricey: $2 for wash, $2 for dry - but to have them at a county campground is awesome!) The bath house is old and showers have a mildew smell. They are the showers where you push the button and get water for a few minutes, then water turns off by itself. I didn't use them; hubby said water wasn't hot but it was fine. Bathrooms have AC. Only real downfall of this place for longer term camping/ big rigs is no sewer, and only 30amp electric (no 50amp). If business brings us back here again in our RV, we'll absolutely stay here! Highly recommended.
First time there was a little crowded and some sites wet. I recently went and albeit early in "season" was nice the sites were cleaned and sanded over had a great experience the restrooms and showers were clean as well. Nice little playground. One of the trails was closed off cause of beetle damage to some of trees. Really nice job on campgrounds this year LET'S KEEP IT THAT WAY CAMPERS!!! As we should always do our part!
Best the Best place. Especial for family
Enjoyed our time camping here. Facilities were very clean and the place was quiet. Definitely bringing the family back here!
This park is a hidden gem
Kid friendly ...get your fishing poles ready to catch some fish from the lake .
A great day out
This local park is a gem for camping! Woodsy pull through sites are spacious and offer water and electric. Camp site staff are diligent about patrols and keeping the bath house clean. Peaceful small lake on the property w boat rentals in season.
This is the largest park in Monmouth County with full amenities. There is family and group camping, hiking, archery range and lake activities including boating and fishing. There are picnic areas and group shelters. Two soccer fields are also available by reservation for official games. There are many white-tail deer around and watch for ticks.
Had an amazing experience here with my family. The bathrooms are clean, staff is nice, and the park felt so safe for families. Amazing price point for an amazing weekend.
My only con was that the fires had to be out by 11 pm, but understandable!
Great park to visit for a quick trip or to hang out near a lake. Swamp is an accurate description for the trails further from the lake. It had snowed about a week earlier and the trail waa still all mud and puddles, too deep to walk through and too many greenbriars (thorny bushes) to walk around.
Nice trails and family friendly park
I camped here with friends for three days (two nights) this November and we could not have been happier. The campsite was large enough to contain two cars, a six person tent, and all of our other gear. The bathrooms were kept clean and restocked multiple times a day and the rangers were all very friendly. The hot water showers were a nice touch since it was quite chilly in the mornings. We were surprised when we saw the water and electricity on our site! We've camped other places before but this is by far the best.
Great place for a hike or walk with the dog. Nice trails, sometimes they get muddy so wear proper shoes. Deer hunting in some parts oct-feb. 3 different playgrounds that are clean and updated.
Great quiet place. They have an archery range you have to bring your own equept. but it's free to use. Beautiful setting. During hunting season you can hunt there but you have to get a Park permit and also you must have a NJ hunting licence bow hunting only. I would recommend the Park to anyone you will not be disappointed.
Well we didn't catch anyhing but we weren't prepared.. However, the park is great!
Great trails, the park is huge, lots of space , great place to take the family and get out and also social Distancing if you wanna get some fresh air .. you can fish , grill walk the trails and take kids to playground also , overall great park!
Lots to like: nice staff, beautiful new boardwalk & lush landscaping around wonderful lake, mulched trails, level bicycling, totally shaded lots, recycling & trash picked up at each site, good playground with bounce surface. The bad: Nothing for sale in ranger's office, showers not clean & dressing area not private, mosquitoes managed by spray. No sewer or wifi.
Great place. Water is far. Showers with warm water. Electric hook up.
Came here for a barbecue and had a good time. There were plenty of picnic tables under the pavilion and there were more outside the pavilion too. Bathroom was a short walk away and it was cleaner than other park bathrooms in NJ. Had to take a long dirt road out to picnic area but it gave a rural feel to park experience. We liked there were garbage cans available and that we didn't have to carry out garbage.
This park belongs to Monmouth county, they have very nice camping grounds and very clean shower facilities. Saturday nights between 6 and 8, there is free a tractor ride for campers, which takes around 45 minutes around the park. There is recycling bin and garbage can and water for each campground. The playground is modern and spacious. I didn't kayak or fish here but must be good, I saw a lot if daily visitors with fishing rods and kayaks. There is no internet booking, you can call and make a reservation for minimum two days over the phone, it's 34$ per night for non residents. There are also cabins for rent. You also get a free beach pass for 7 president's beach , long Branch, nj which is a 45 mins drive.
It's definitely a place for some old-school family fun. Park rangers are nice and helpful. Fishing is hit-or-miss... somedays they're biting, other days there's nothing. A great place to take your family for some outdoor time.
Been coming here since I was a kid, still love it, the lake the park, there's plenty to do for all ages
We were nervous about this place because of the tick advisory until we realized in New Jersey there should be a tick advisory posted in every parking lot (our daughter got a tick in a paved shopping center with only a few bushes). Besides not having a pool, best campground in the area. Very large sites and reliable electricity, but you really should bring your own hose because the water source could be practically in someone else's campsite. No alcoholic beverages allowed, which was good for us because it means no super loud drunk campers. I know that may be a deal breaker for some people.
I have taken my wife and my children to Turkey Swamp Park for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, trail walking and for camping. It is always a beautiful place to visit and the staff are also professional and informative. It is also noteworthy is that the final scare scene in the original Friday the 13th was filmed at Turkey Swamp Park! Picture below! The Monmouth County Park system should coordinate a Friday the 13th day at the swamp to raise $ for the park! Many people in the area have no idea that this famous film and one of its most famous scenes were made here! Invite the two actors who played the parts to sign autographs and take pictures!
Great park for a family picnic ,boat trip on the lake...maybe some fishing included, a walk through the wooded paths or staying at a camp site.Always clean and welcoming. They now offer cabins to rent as well. There are large fields for games and pets to play on, with plenty of parking as well as swing sets for the kids.
The Swamp is great. Been coming here since 1983. Playground & bathroom areas are clean but are in need of an upgrade. Would've given 5 stars but Monmouth County needs to modernize the amenities in order to keep up with the times.
Nice park, very quiet and relaxing. You can rent out boats and kayaks for an hour to go around the pond. They also have a complementary access to the beach by the Atlantic Ocean.
Very nice place to go swimming and have picnics and a great Park
I have been camping here for 50+ years.Sites are large and somewhat wooded. If you have an RV bring an extra water hose because it can be a long run depending on your site.Have a great time.
I am currently fairly new to camping, but this experiemce was great!!! The whole park looks amazing and is very well kept. Very accomodating area and all employees were helpful and joyful.
I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Can't wait to come back here!! :D
Alot of people at this place. And was disappointed the majority were not wearing masks. Everytime i went to use a bathroom it was closed for cleaning. In covid times i figured that is a good thing. For so many people the entire park was very clean
My wife and I loved it here. It's such a great location with the campsites far apart, unlike most campgrounds. Perfect place to teach kids the true wonders of camping. Ranger was friendly and very knowledgeable.
Very nice park. Decent fishing. A few really nice trails. There's an archery range and camping as well. My only complaint is that the trails to the Nomoco area are not a loop. The park is divided by Nomoco Road.
Love this local park Plenty of space plenty of on trail and off trail routes You can choose to kayak or paddle boat as well as fish if you have the equipment due to co vid I believe the facility is still shut down yo rent gear
Went here in July, 2018.Sites were very large, level, and shady. Very nice place to camp with hookups. Didn't give it 5 stars due to the flies, that were relentless.
Really nice park for a county park. The State of NJ needs to take notes and improve there camping areas. Let the county Voc. Ed’s install electric, sewer, and water. The state could make more money. And we could have better parks.
Me and my family all,go,camping, here at the start of the season to get our supplies tested and the trailer rundown. Good place for families and kids. Has a full service bath-house with showers laundry room and playground.
We come twice a year and always have a positive experience with our families. The facilities are clean, the playground for the kids is great, and the Rangers are on top of keeping everyone happy.
Great park ,nice for fishing paddle boating and picnics, lots of trails and playgrounds, always clean, beautiful lake and surrounding areas
Today me and my dad went fishing and this place is great. We caught 6 fish last year and hope to catch a lot this year!! Turkey Swamp has a great park for kids and great for fishing!
Most sites are pull through. Water and electric and level. Sand roads and sites. Beautiful woods. Rangers are happy and helpful. Laundry and baths are clean. Quiet even on weekends.
Always a great experience. Big sites. Small price.
Beautiful park with many easy trails. Nice place for kids and adults to spend time with the nature. Not far from Hussle of the city. Good picnic spots and barbeque options. Would love to visit again.
Our trip was awesome. Weather was really really nice. I enjoyed the wagon ride most. A beautiful place for romantic day out, solid family time.
This place have play grounds for kids as well.
Well kept Trails, good picnic tables and there is even a boating house where you can rent a pedal boat or Kayak for under $20 per hour. However the Bathrooms are not well kept up and are half the time broken.
Beautiful park, pristine forest trails... But the omnipresent buzzing of green-headed flies around my head makes me wonder if perhaps this is a park best hiked during the cooler months. There is also the matter of deer ticks, of which I found a few following a six mile hike.
I am always prepared for encounters with ticks, after all it is New Jersey. Check yourself and take the proper precautions, standard procedure in this region. The flies were another story, and my hiking partner and I found that out experience was significantly diminished due to the ongoing insect menace.
I've hiked my whole life, NJ in particular, and I have never experienced flying insects in a capacity that actually made me glad the hike was over. Maybe it is all the rain we have had lately (July 2019), or the time of day we hiked ( from around 6pm to 8:30 pm), but I don't think I will be returning to hike Turkey Swamp until the fall.
Great place to stay with very large sites that are all pull-thru. Only issue is the water location. They are located between the sites. I have 50' of hose and it wasn't enough. Bring 75' minimum if you want to hook up. Electricity was 5' away so no issue there. The office had a list of hose lengths required so you can call and ask if you know your site. Also, single dump station that will form a line fast so plan accordingly. Prefill your tanks before you leave your site as the available hose has no fitting on the end for fill/flush activities.
Nice quite place to hike. The blue trail gets a little bit overgrown towards one end of the loop during the summer.
Nice and quiet this time of year. Maintenance was going on to keep the park nice.
Is pace full and nice to camping
We visited some friends that were camping here, would definitely recommend!
Good spot for fishing with kids. Not going to promise you'll catch much because it's very over fished but there is a lot of shore line to fish from around the boat rentals.
It's covid time. On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27 2020.
The park was pretty much empty. It was well kept the people extreamly friendly. Lots of trails, which I didn't walk today.
I definitely plan on going back to do a trail.
This park is handicap friendly, and dog friendly.
Lots of park ranger around this place to talk to.
One of the best parks around the central NJ. You can boat, ride, run or just sit and watch the nature with its all glorious beauty. The park also has several camping spots for the travelers and night-owls.
Great place for family fun. Canoe, kayak and paddle boats available for rent. Great picnic areas, playground and hiking trails. Ranger staff is very helpful.
Best place for just about anything outdoors. Great picnic grounds, hiking, boat rentals
Beautiful place to get away with a nice, small lake and nature trails narrow and wide.
Beautiful park and nice scenic lake! (Canoeing much easier than row boat or paddle boat which are also available to rent)
This is a beautiful little park. The lake is very nice & they have trails all around the park. Camping too
Stayed overnight in RV last night. I really enjoyed it. Very private RV sites and not too close to others. Campfire, dump site, and electric available. Staff on top of things
Had a wonderful time. They are very accommodating with there reservation. I had to cancel my trip and reschedule it for another day.they DO NOT GIVE REFUNDS. They did let me change the date for no extra charge. The best 4 nights ever😃 …
Wonderful park to take long walks, go fishing, canoeing, even shooting archery at their free range. They also have a nice little camp ground!
Great place for family camping. Well maintained trails, friendly park rangers. Spacious camp sites. Camped with the family over Easter weekend, we'll be back.
Great park in the woods. Water hookups are oddly placed. But beautiful none the less..
Great place to go camping with families but they are extremely strict to a point where adults feel like they have a curfew. Police drive around every couple hours.
Beautiful scenery great for flat land hiking. Very peaceful place especially on the weekdays if you can make it. You can walk in and NOT hear cars.
This place is great for hiking and fishing and taking in nature. Love spending time with my grandchildren there exploring and learning new things
Great place to relax and get away from every day stress
Playground here
Bring your fishing gear
Great park! Love going on walks there and taking my nephew to play at the playgrounds. I also walk my dogs here! Great place
Quiet clean place for a picnic.
Nice place to camp. Lake for boating and playgrounds for small kids. Drainage is poor, so some sites turn into giant puddles after rain.
Park was great but watch out for ticks. Found 5 each on each of our two dogs.
Wonderful Campground! We come back year after year.
Beautiful park for camping, friendly and helpful staff. Clean bathroom and shower facilities. Three cabins available that were absolutely awesome.
Had an awesome time camping here! Electricity & water nearby. Playgrounds & lake is perfect! Bathrooms and showers need an update.
Nice place for a trail walk.
Camping for more than 15 years!
We love it! Probably a better cleanning in the bathrooms .... nicer shower curtains ... and a little store .... milk, etc
Awesome for camping, stayed over a long weekend with few friends and we all loved it. Will definitely go back to camp or even to fish for just a day!!

It's a great place, always clean with a nice park for the kids.
Very good park very nice to walk your dogs go fishing & boating or have a nice picnic with your family.
Good place to bring your family for a picnic, to fish, swim. It's a very family friendly park with lots to do
Still a very clean park after all the years I have not been there Since I was a boy. Very impressed, and glad it's still well maintained.
Showers could be warmer an they said Wi-Fi could be used by the office but couldn't... I'd still camp there just not enough to do there with 10 year olds
Clean fun family park. Walking trails, paddle boats, canoes, kids playground make for a great afternoon out in nature.
One of my doggie's favorite spots
Turkey swamp is a great park for fisherman and campers. I think its a great getaway/vacation spot for people new to New Jersey
It was OK, I really wished that the campground was closer to the lake. It was clean but didn't really have anything to see.
Nice place for families. Electric & water hook ups for glamour campers. 2nd time here & I'd come back for a easy & relaxing camping trip
Been coming here for over 20 years. Simple, quiet and lots to do. Bathrooms are clean and rangers really keep up with the place.
This is generally a nice campsite. Would have given it five stars but the bathrooms were a little dingy.
I've been coming here since I was little. Great place for canoeing, playing soccer, playgrounds, easy trails, large group picnics, and bird watching.
Beautiful place, wonderful trails. The dog loved it and so did my family
Went with the Fiance to camp for a night. Very nice camping sites, with some nice walking trails. Pick your site wisely.
Beautiful lake; boat rentals; helpful staff. Will try their hiking trails next time.
Thinking of camping there next year, but it's beautiful lake for fishing or just to walk around!
Beautiful park with well kept trails and an enormous lake to do some fishing
We hike and bike and take pictures and enjoy all the activities this park has to offer. Miles of trails and lots of different terrain.
Great park, has row boat, paddle boat, kayak and canoe rentals, also good to fish in. Also has campgrounds.
Nice place. A lot of activities are available.

Clean bathrooms (with showers) nice playgrounds, and really great wholesome fun.
It's a fun and clean place for families, to fish, bbq, canoeing, it is so peaceful to just sit and look at lake
Very clean park. Ranger is accessible and helpful. Many many ticks and chiggers on trails.
Close nice lake went fishing there in 1993 and1997 on a row boat.Did a 5k walk for the homeless.
Didnt explore full park but looked great..campsites were small and too close to each other. Lake looked great with canoeing options.
Spacious campsites, friendly Park Rangers, clean bathrooms.
Be cautious of ticks and use a repelent as a deterent.
Pretty nice park for middle of Jersey. Lots of trails to walk on (could be better marked) . Definitely worth a visit
Nature is such good medicine and Park Rangers Nick and Tony do a great job. They're very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Nice place for camping. We had a group of 8 families and we enjoyed a lot.
it's nice but there is a lot of insects in rhe summer time weird type of flys and thousands of ticks
Nice clean Park with camping and a nice picnic area..boat rentals and fishing
It's away from the main road, so it's little quiet. Just keep in mind that parents like to bring their young kids to fish, so it can get a little noisy.
Great park to camp. Big roomy sites. Pretty park, great walking and hiking.
Clean park. Nice hiking trails good be blazed a little better.
Really nice place to enjoy with friends and family
Great park, I never knew how big it was, I felt like I could get lost there. Great feeling so close to civilization and shopping
