Great store, amazing service, but no Snowboarding boots Ben from the snow&bike service area was amazing! We came to fit bindings to our snowboards (all new equipment), and we weren't sure if we should use the small or medium binding with our board and boot size. Ben not only have us extensive advise, but he also attached the bindings to the board right then and there. The store has a large selection of different items, but unfortunately NO snowboarding boots, which is why it is only 4 stars. We just ordered the missing boots in the store and will get them delivered. Very recommended, this is our new go-to REI

My boyfriend and I did ski service here. My ski just need machine wax and it only took 5-10 mins. My boyfriend’s ski needs tune, bonding services and hot wax and Ben was really helpful and knowledgeable. Gave good advice on ski services.

Always a nice selection. Re-opened several weeks ago. Always pleasant and helpful staff. Very,neat,clean and organized store. Dressing rooms are closed. Full COVID protocols are in place. Very considerate of the store to put up canopy’s outside the front entrance for sun and rain. Shopping capacity is enforced. Well done, REI!

Went on 8/18/22 around 6 PM and felt like I was being followed around by a gentleman with glasses, maybe around 40 years old. I wasn't too sure if he wanted to help me or was just looking at me be brown on Wednesday evening. No asked if I needed helped either but good selection of hiking bags.

Prices are insane but the people are all really nice and helpful. The prices wouldn't bother so much if I didn't see the exact same products for sometimes close to half-price elsewhere... And I don't mean Amazon. Smaller outdoor shops have much better prices, so shop around.

My happy place. Coming here makes me feel like the best version of myself- the version of me that will spontaneously go camping with friends on a whim, eating organic smores, reading in the quiet woodsy mornings, and canoeing all afternoon while no bugs ever bother us. I come back down to earth when I use half the gear I buy here, but nothing I’ve ever bought has broken or worked poorly, so even though it’s overpriced, I don’t mind that they’re selling me the dream along with the trekking poles, fancy chocolate, enamel mugs, or bespoke bike seats. The employees here see your best self and call to you, nodding and recognizing who you want to be, enthusiastically agreeing with you and kindly supporting you, while possibly steering you toward safer decision-making processes as they cheerfully ring up your hundreds of dollars, reminding you that you’ll get some back in co-op money later! In all honesty, you will, if you cave to the siren call and come back to arm yourself for your next adventure, tripping over the helmet you never used on your way out the door to buy the new backpack you swear you need for next weekend’s day hike. God I love this place

The prices are reasonable AND what's great is that if you are a member, you receive dividends 💰💲💸 back at the end of the year. The membership is $20 for a lifetime. The store itself is quite large and you will be able to find a wide selection of items for hiking🥾⛰️, running🏃‍♀️, skiing🎿⛷️🏂🥽, swimming🏊‍♂️, paddling🚣🛶 and anything really for outdoors-type of activities such as camping🏕️🔥 or glamping. They even sell energy snacks there too. I am just always amazed by the plethora of items you can find at this one-stop shop. REI is the B&H (💻🖨️🎥📸📺📱) of outdoors goods. Why? Because all of the employees are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They aren't just there to sell you a product. They'll answer questions and guide you to find what you are looking for.

Products are often of great quality. However many items are not in stock and there are hardly ever any sales. The largest selection of sales items is for rei members only and it’s often damaged products. Shirts with missing buttons, stains etc. it’s better to check the online selection on the store than go in person.

First time visit and we were lucky enough to have Dev as our "Guide" to much more than gear as he was very knowledgeable on everything we asked including local trails, camping spots and hidden gems! REI has not only a great selection of quality merchandise, it's also a very clean, well-run establishment. They retrieved my membership from 20 years ago and with discounts, we know we have made a great purchase. See you on the AT Dev! Great job, we'll be back!

She helped me with sizing, explained things I'd never had told to be when buying a new pair of shoes as well as recommending alternatives to the shoe i was looking at and checking availability at other store. Great store! Came in for hiking shoes for our next national park trip. I was very impressed with the knowledge the staff had with national parks out west specifically Glacier and Yellowstone. It was nice to talk to someone who actually went where we are going. Usually people have no clue. We were very impressed by their selection of shoes, and what they didn’t have would come to our house in 4-5 days. We will definitely be back!

I really enjoy shopping at this REI. So glad it's located across the street from Bergen town center as parking is much easier. They seem to have less staffing recently though. You have to look for someone to help you. They seem to be really low on stock of winter base layers and complete array of sizes and it's only October! Review update 2022: I think we all are used to retail stores not having the breadth and depth of goods they used to. I shop at REI on a regular basis and do find the service that I receive there to be friendly and helpful. I usually find what I'm looking for and find the items they sell to be of good to high quality.

REI is perfect for all your camping, backpacking, fishing, road tripping, hiking etc needs. Basically any thing you need for athletic activity or sport can be found at REI. Although some items are more expensive than you can find on Amazon, you know that it’ll be great quality. Everything I’ve bought was very good quality including my backpacking backpack for which I spent an hour in the store getting a personal fitting! Highly recommend.

Awesome staff! We came in looking for last minute rock climbing gear for our trip to Lake George this weekend and got some great gear tips from Ben. He explained everything really well which was needed considering we’re beginners. To top it all off, he took the time to talk to us about a clearance paddle board even though they were literally closing and he was probably gearing up to go home. He regarded us with respect and a positive attitude the whole visit. Much appreciated!

Almost took a star away because they are not cheap, but the employees are great! So helpful and just nice. Also you can return if not happy with your purchase even many months later. Because they do such a good job I have not had to return anything, but nice to know I could if needed.

Great store. Sales/service personnel is helpful, respectful, responsible. My family bikes have been serviced/fixed/turned up several times over last several years. We will be back buying and servicing again. Besides bikes, I bought a cargo box. At no charge, a Sales person tried two boxes (amazing service) and the price was matching the best prices available online from other sellers like Am...n (which is amazing when it comes to smaller items).

Fantastically to find sophisticated sporting goods the only place that carries my authentic hiking shoes for the trail walking. Pick up salomson trail shoes. They carry all sizes and they don't have any sock they will order for you online ship it to your local store or perhaps on the purchase amount you get free shipping. Don't forget to become a lifetime member truly worth it.

Great store for the great outdoors. The staff was ready for all my questions and helped me choose the right product off the shelf. Now your probably wondering why I gave them four out of five stars... No military discount. You would think that a store like this, and I'm sure they cater to a vast military clientele, would offer this discount, sadly no. And for that reason, I kept one star for myself.

Store seemed very sparse, but they were setting up for the big sidewalk sale. All the employees seemed too pre occupied to assist much. "Greeter" at the front door to ensure covid restrictions was hacking up a lung as he instructed others to be safe. Sale items were good and I found most of what I needed. Registers were cleaned between each guest which is nice.

Marcela knows shoes! This was my first visit to REI and my first shopping experience looking for hiking shoes. Marcela showed me almost 20 pairs of shoe, taught me about the different brands, treads, and the best uses for each. I was impressed with not only her product knowledge but also her patience. I am changing my review because after contacting REI via a few methods to get delivery of my order someone politely called me and my bicycle is ready for delivery, this is great news and it did not take them until July as previously stated by someone on the phone. Definitely consider joining their membership - $20 for a lifetime membership and you get money back annually. There are also great deals from time to time.

The service was excellent, we had plenty of help, we found what we wanted at reasonable prices, it's tough at this time of the year, it's the end of the season we looked in numerous places, supplies were few & sizes limited, we lucked out. I have not been disappointed once the past 3 times I've gone ;both Paramus location and East Hanover. Ben and Eric at the Paramus have shown me great customer service when I brought my Ghost mtn bike to be checked out for sounds after hitting some rough trails, got parts fixed or changed in 10 min, always left with a smile. Keep up the good work REI. Quick update, Fourth time I've been here and had a great experience with Wallace and Marie in the bike shop department. We came in due to our bikes making a weird sound while shifting gears. Both associates were very knowledgeable, personable and professional. They made the experience very quick and easy. We left REI with fixed bikes and also more knowledge about how to keep our bikes in good condition.

Went in to buy mountain bike tires, when the person helping me started talking about their service. I appreciated the candid manner that their employees carry themselves with. Unlike all of the local bike shops that I have gone to , they told me exactly what it was going to cost, and the price stood. I want to support the local bike shops just like the next guy, but I feel like lbs people are never honest. Everytime I come to pick my bike up the price changes.......always more , never less. So I am happy with the service so far. Overall I really enjoy going to rei. People are friendly and knowledgeable and love all of the products they sell. I really like the enthusiasm, and the way I get treated, so overall a great experience!

As I prepare for a 10-day backpacking hike to the Grand Canyon, I came to the store for guidance and to try out equipment. What a gem we found in one of their employees, Nate. This guy had real-time experience, gave us suggestions, tips, product specs and best use of material for both clothing and gear. He spent about an hour answering our (4 of us) questions and showing us products and alternatives. Though lots of the products were cheaper on Amazon, I would buy from this store because of the magnificent service Nate provided us. That type of service is rare these days. He treated us like we were the #1 clients. REI, please give this employee a promotion, accolades or recognition. He clearly demonstrated why REI has competitive advantage.

Had to wait way too much for a bike for my son. It's been delayed twice. They were saying they were overloaded with orders. Meanwhile I got my own bike from REI in Norwalk 3 weeks ago. I ordered this one to pick up from this location just because they promised delivery in two days. It took nearly one month after all. The high rating is due to REI as a whole - they were able to deliver the bike at all this crazy time, when all bikes sold out everywhere.

REI is awesome. They don't have a huge selection but the store is well lit, staff is generally (see exception below) very knowledgeable and helpful and the prices are pretty much in line with their competition. What I DON'T like is that they insist on poking holes in every bit of clothing with the tracking tags. I get it but no way am I buying rain gear from them with a hole in it. THEN when I tried to explain it to the staff they not only wouldn't accept my right not to buy rain gear with artificial holes punched into it, they kept nagging me and trying to almost bully me into buying it. Needless to say they lost that sale to a store that didn't punch holes in rain gear.

Huge outdoor outfitting store. Good selection of hiking, camping, and biking supplies, though the running slection was nearly non existent. The brands are typically high end like Patagonia and North Face, so prices are high so look for discounts and sales. The staff is fairly friendly and helpful and even helped us box up a purchase for shipping overseas.

I wouldve given this location 5 stars, however most of the staff isnt very outgoing and kind of hides from customers. Ken, who helped my fiance and I find a double sleeping bag, and Julie, who helped track down the last pair of house shoes in my fiance's size were exceptions to the rule though... We wound up spending $600-$700 that day and other than Ken and Julie the other staff were just not motivated to be outgoing. Perhaps if employees earned a sales commision things might be different, but its no use wondering or hoping when we have to accept how things are today.

Not a bad place to shop for outdoor stuff. Selection isn't huge but decent. Never had much problems finding what I need. Prices are higher than I would prefer but they have enough sales to get something at a good price.

Great bike shop. Now that Campmor has shut down their bike repair section , the best bike repair and parts around. They have a more MTB focus, but do great on road bikes too. I do my own repairs, and REI is great for parts like cables and housings. Plus they sell Wahoo stuff.

I like this place. The location is right next to the Bergen Town Center off of Route 4. Definitely a good place for the outdoorsy types like myself. They sell all sorts of thing according the season. The selection is not vast in brand names but it definitely have the essential that you need for the love of the outdoors. I also like how this is another option instead of going up Rt 17 to Campmor for my needs. Gives me some extra time for lunch.
