To echo many of the other positive reviews, I’ve been frequenting this park regularly over the last year and a half and I’m glad I found out about it! It’s easily the most beautiful urban park of NJ, if not the planet! I’m a little biased because I fell in love here, but it’s truly a gem, particularly in the spring and fall, and a relaxing place where you can walk for at least a couple hours admiring the native plants and the abundant squirrels. I love the extensive soft “track” path. Many sports fields, trees for hammocks, benches, clean bathroom facilities (open from spring to fall) and port-o-potties make this an all around 5-star park that offers something for everyone. Many thanks to the volunteers and caretakers for keeping it beautiful!

Branch Brook Park is a great place to relax on the beautiful grass or a quiet walk around the park on the new rubberized walkways. Its a great place for one to meditate on life while gazing at the beautiful trees to absorb all that nature has to offer. Its a place where I go to let go of the past and regroup to continue moving forward. Whether your alone, with love ones, or just friends, Branch brook Park offers a unique experience for all to enjoy.

This is a unique park... lots of activities for all ages...lots of parking...but the crown is the cherry blossoms. Visit this park during the Cherry Blossom Festival and you won't forget the spectacle! I live not so far away from this park but had never attended a Cherry Blossom Festival...and I regret it...This a must attend festival. So unique and special, I am not missing it again...Got a feeling of finally, "Being one with Nature."

This place is a must go during really anytime of the year because it's a beautiful park but most especially during thr cherry blossom seasons. Come here with friends, family and go on a nice walk. There is also a beautiful church nearby that you can check out.

Growing up near this park for 26 years, I enjoyed walks in the park daily. From playing soccer games as a kid, then as a teenager and from eventually participating in the Cherry Blossom 5k two years, Branch Brook will always be my favorite park. There are many points in the park that are enjoyable and my most favorite in the concert Grove at Park Avenue entrance. Looking forward to the cherry blossom fest in few weeks and I have enjoyed every year as a kid growing up.

Beautiful cherry blossoms 🌸 We went for the cherry blossoms festival. It's from April 2 -10 th. Great place to see cherry blossoms. Daffodils are also in bloom. Free admission. Parking is hard to get but if you drive around free street parking is available. Beautiful views. Great photo opportunities. Pet friendly.

Really beautiful park. There's a small parking lot at the welcome center but you can also do street parking. There are multiple paths on both sides of the street so even if there are a lot of people you can take an alternate route to avoid the pedestrian traffic. Really glad there's a beautiful place with cherry blossoms in NJ so you don't have to travel all the way to DC. Too bad people litter. Please pick up after yourselves.

Must visit place in month of April during Cherry Blossom festival. You can park on side of the road and visit cherry blossom 🌸 in the park. Park may get crowded. First week of April, cherry blossom festival begins. What I like about this park, you can pull over on the side of the road and visit the area and get back to car and move on to other side of park rather than parking in lot and walking great distance.

Love this place. We took great pictures with my little boy We went here last year and The cherry blossom trees are wonderful. Leaves were falling like the rain l, it was great to look at. The ground was filled to the cherry blossom leaves. We came back this year but the leaves aren't fallen yet, like last year. We're going to go back to re create the picture from last year. Awesome.

The largest park system in Newark with walking and running trails. Large soccer, football and baseball fields. Also trout filled lake fishing available. The park needs a big cleanup all around the park grounds. Lots of garbage, bottles, cans and plastic all over. The park maintenance service needs to clean up! Also, if you visit the park you need to clean up after yourself!

The love of cherry blossom wasn’t so fruitful. There are hardly enough cherry blossom trees. There are more cherry blossom trees in the neighborhood. Only good thing about the park is, it’s huge. No parking nearby. Family friendly.

Branch Brook Park, one of the most beautiful places in North Newark area. Branch Brook offers so much basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, soccer/football field, jogging trails. You can take great pictures have a picnic just relax and even fish. 16-69 you need your fishing license with a trout stamp. Branch Brook Park was designed by Central Park architect. For the second summer in a row, Branch Brook Park is a good place to go to enjoy nature! Lots of land to take a stroll and have a picnic, and a nice breeze near the lake. However, bringing food or looking at restaurants near by in advance is a good idea since only small snacks (ice cream, funnel cakes, lemonade)were available in food trucks. Pretty crowded but it wasn’t a big problem when walking.

Lovely park in Newark NJ which was created in 1895 as the nation's first county park. The Olmsted Brothers firm, specifically Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. and John Charles Olmsted, was hired in 1900 to redesign the park. The Morris Canal originally ran on the park's West side and its bed was later converted into the Newark City Subway which links the park to Newark Penn Station. Newark's great cathedral and Mies van der Rohe's Colonnade Apartments are located along the Southeastern edge of the park.

One of area's gems, especially this time of year with the Cherry Blossom Festival. The park is covered in hundreds of blooming trees. And even if you not into that, this park is BIG and well kept ( didn't see alot of trash or trash cans, just a few mask. It has trails, bridges, sport fields, a lake (I saw people fishing too) and open green space to sit and enjoy a day at the park. Parking can be a little crazy but not impossible. Update: The parking is much easier when it's not a festival. Still a good park to sit and hang out, more trash than I normally see.

Branch Brook Park is one of the best kept secrets of Newark, NJ. It's like an oasis surrounded by the hustle and bustle of a concrete jungle/city. I make my way there whenever I want to enjoy the outdoors without traveling to suburbs, countryside or distance mountains. I highly recommend this park to anyone who can appreciate nature and enjoy the outdoors after a year of being on lockdown. Again, it's Newark's best kept secret. And I said what I said, check it out.

This place was Absolutely beautiful. Went for a softball game and the fields were immaculate. One of the bests by far. Soccer fields and football all pristine. The bathrooms were exceptable except one, it didn't have a lock. People were great. I STILL can't get over the softball fields, they were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I heard it's even beautiful when these white trees bloom at a certain part of year, I will be back to see.

4/13/2021 Today when we visited the park, the beautiful cherry blossoms were at full blooms although a lot had started to fall after rain. The peak blooming time should be during last week and this week. It was quite crowded although on a weekday. You may have to park on the street if parking lots are full. The restrooms are all open. And there are a lot of portable toilets. If you don’t mind walking, stop by the visitor center and enjoy the cherry blossoms around there. Then walk towards the lake thru under the bridge. You will get to see another kind of beautiful views with blossoms and the lake and reflections of the cathedral church. Or, cross the creek directly thru the crossway under the bridge, walk on another side of the lake, which will also lead you to the splendid cathedral church: Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Don’t miss it!

Beautiful park with a tree lined lake. Very clean and welcoming. So the cherry trees are in full bloom and everyone was in awe with their fallen petals. There are plenty of benches and shade areas to sit and picnic. Pets are welcome and everyone was respectfully wearing their masks. Restrooms are also available.

Beautiful park! The Cherries are magnificent during Spring. This was my first time coming and I enjoyed it very much. Lots of trails to walk through and a bunch of places to sit and hangout. Side note: to get here you can ride the Newark Light Rail from Newark Penn Station, the train travels all along the park.

Love love this park. It's so huge so theirs plenty of walking space. I sheduled plans to visit for the pink and white blossoms and I did it. Branch Brook Park is truly incredible in the spring. The cherry blossom trees make a visit 100% worth it. The park is dog friendly and even has a dog park. There are also different sports fields, public restrooms, walking paths, and more to keep you occupied. Beautiful place to visit.

If you are searching place to click pictures of of beautiful blossom trees. I would like to suggest branch brook park. I visited on April 4 2021 . Some of the trees are started turning pink and white. I read the best time or the peak time in new Jersey for seeing blossom is from April 10 to April 18 .I am sharing latest pictures. Parking : I observed people are parking inside the park as well as the street which is attached to park was full of parked cars. Photo place : There are some point where many tree are pink and that was the hot spot of the photo lovers near plaza mall.

This place looks like inside of a fairytale when blooming and out of Victorian garden in summer. Amazing park in Newark area, NJ. This park has a nice lake, big track to walk, run and stroll. It is very big, peaceful park and you can enjoy the golden hour by just seating near the water fountain in the lake. This has amazing cherry blossom trees with a variety of different shades and colors. Ideal place to take nice pictures and enjoy the fresh air.

Got to visit the place on a Friday. Crowds mostly gather on the Branch brook drive side of the park. But it is a good almost 3 mile stroll around the lake. Loved the cherry blossoms. There were some muddy pathways on the other side of the park trail but nothing too difficult to get by. Parking is road side. Parking lot marked on Google maps is closed to the public.

Branch Brook Park is famous for its magnificent Cherry Blossom in Spring and we were impressed when we visited last March. The parking would be really difficult to find during cherry blossom season so we highly recommend to visit early to beat the crowd. The park is not huge but delicate and well planned. The trial was wide and flat so it is also great for babies in strollers or elders. However, some of the trials were muddy so it won’t be a perfect time to visit after a rainy day.

Nice venue for a family outing/picnic. Just went today for cherry blossom and wasn't disappointed in all the different white, pink etc trees. Had lots of fun with the family. Only issue was the parking was so so so difficult to find. This also creates slow moving traffic so, last 1 mile took more than 10 min at snail pace. Other than that it was totally worth the "hassle"

Everything is in full blossom! I went yesterday 4/7/21 and I definitely recommend going! We saw a lot of people taking professional photos.. parking was available on the shoulder of the road.. a lot of people just pull over and park and enjoy the beautiful park.

Seeing the beautiful cherry blossoms here is a delightful way to spend an April afternoon. It’s a classic Olmstead designed historic park. Tight parking and it can be little crowded but well worth it. And a good reason to get to Newark to enjoy a meal afterwards.

Great place to walk and see the wonder of God's creation. I also stopped and picked up some of the trash left carelessly in the park. There are trash receptacles. Please clean up after yourselves. The waterways are polluted with so much garbage.

Its absolutely beautiful. From the glistening water to the carefully sculpted statues and monuments, it's just an overall breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the town. The only problem that stopped me from giving it 5 stars was the amount of bird poop everywhere and the pollution in the water. There were places that I disnt even wanna step because I didnt wanna get all that bird poop onto my shoes. But if you can look past that, this is an absolutely wonderful place to go, I highly recommend it.😊

This is a beautiful park with jogging track. It is peaceful and neatly maintained. There are playing grounds and the place is accessible via bus and light rail. There is parking available and the park is patrolled well to make it safe and secure for the visitors.

Beautiful cherry blossoms in clusters around several locations in the park. We went today April 22 2018, the white ones are in full bloom now, some pink ones are gone or still in bud. Roadside parking along the park drive is generally easy to find within walking distance to the lake and cherry trees except the busiest section in the park.

The park itself isn't too too big and honestly I've only been there when cherry blossoms were out so I can't say much, but it was nice. It was just a little too crowded but it was that season of the year so I can't complain. I feel like the park itself is not big enough to hold all the visitors though. And when it gets busy, it's hard to find parking spots, so just be aware of that.

Nice local park. Bigger than I expected. Clean. Lots of walking trails and cute little clearance to have a picnic or sit in the sun. Some history to explored there as well. About Branch Brook Park I learned from media which said that a great number of sakura trees are situated there and ready to blossom. It is a very nice park with a lake with lots of cherry trees. It was really beautiful. Territory is very clean and well kepped.

The place is nice if you wanna lounge, meditate or have a little workout done. The park is basically dirty, and overgrown with bushes, the lake is very dirty with pollens all over the water. The place needs cleaning, grasses should be cleared and lakes freed from pollens and debris. I still go there whenever I wanna have some quiet time.

Cherry blossoms we're out at their peak when we visited. Fredrick Law Olmsted, however, might be quite disappointed with how this gem of a park that his firm designed is now maintained. For one, I'd like to see a lot more effort into restoring the grounds to their former glory. Great efforts were made around the south entrance to the park...but many other areas were in need of work.

Was here to attend the Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival. Though it was very cold/windy this time but the view of the cherry blossom trees made up for it. A well maintained park with ample parking , clean restrooms and lots of pink and white cherry blossom trees and plenty of spots to get your own moment/photos with them.. in some spots there were cherry blossom white and pink petals on the ground under the cherry blossom trees making it look like a blanket and giving it a fairy tale look and feel. Great alternate for those who cannot make it or want to avoid Washington DC trip for cherry blossom. You won't be disappointed.

We have always enjoyed this park as it is very diverse. There is a big park that is gated for kids, pathways you walk along, and a pond where you can rent paddle boats. A little bit for everyone!

Park is good and very big. Ample parking inside. Kids loved the lake and area around it. We went there to see cherry blossom but planning to visit more often now. Bathroom in bussiest section was closed so knocking one star off for that. Avoid play area at the entrance especially if you have very young kids. Someone was throwing water balloons from outside. one of them missed my kids eye by few inches but the other one hit my wife. Knocking off one more star for play area.

Beautiful park with a big walking track around the lake. Wonderful during cherry blossom season. We went at peak bloom and really enjoyed it. Free and better than going to DC if you just want to see and enjoy the blooms and not really looking to photograph them against the DC monuments.

Branch Brook is one of the last great skating rinks in the tri-state area (NYC) and it's always a pleasure to go and have an absolute great time.. The floor is nice and smooth and the music is always on point. The crowd is a mix of all age groups, races, flavors and colors. Everyone there comes to have a good time and that is exactly what is had by all. Definitely good work out as well.

Branch Brook Park has all of nature. The Rolling Hills the Flatlands the waterways the birds, fish squirrels all of nature. Mines and my families favorite spot in the park was always at the entrance to the lake where the Lions great all that visit. It is an awesome atmosphere with lots of diverse activities taking place throughout the park. Beautiful peoole, beautiful nature, beautiful Park.. Look up. There's always air traffic with great planes so low you can see the logos on the aircrafts. Also the view of the wonderful Cathedral takes over the skyline as the day darkens. Enjoy.

I've lived in this area for over 50 years and have never seen the beauty of the Cherry Blossoms in Branch Brook Park until this past weekend. There was a full gathering of a very diversified crowd enjoy the beauty of this park. Many families taking photos, enjoying picnics, and seeing what the festival organizers had for entertainment and food. I believe there was a fish derby earlier and saw one guy with 3 trout on a stringer. Parking is crazy so practice your parallel parking and good driving ediquet.

Visited this place during the cherry blossom season, although all the trees haden't fully bloomed yet but the place looked beautiful. They had a bloom fest that day which included a lots of free activities for kids such as games, face painting, petting zoo, bouncy house, hoola hooping etc. The park is huge and they had sufficient parking, police patroling, mobile restrooms for the visitors. This place is a must visit during cherry blossom season

Absolutely beautiful cherry blossoms at it's peak. It's worth the challenge of finding a parking spot. The best place is the west side of the pond where you can see the magnificent Cathedral of Sacred Heart of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark.

Great view of the lake and the trees around. I enjoyed the cherry blossom a lot. I would recommend this place for kids and couples. It would be great if they start boat rides on the lake. Good place to spend the weekend.

Went for the Cherry Blossom festival so my rating does not reflect the park in general, which seems nice overall. It was difficult to find parking, and the Cherry trees were scattered throughout the park, so the view of the blossoms was not as impressive as DC. The trees were also not as mature so it was not as we expected. It was also very crowded on the day we went, possibly because it was the first pleasant day after a series of cold fronts. It seems that more people were there than the park and town could handle. Lines at the food trucks were very long because there were only two options and so, not enough to support the crowd. If you are going solely for a cherry blossom festival, skip this and go to DC.

Park is spread over has good trails and play ground on the center of the park with some parking spaces. Park is continually monitored and very safe place to be. Has baseball play grounds for kids. Wonder cherry blossoms.. Not that much compare to nationwide. But its bit overrated.

4 stars for the cherry blossoms and other flowers in the park. But other than that the park itself is just ok. Lots of grass for you to have a picnic or whatever, but other than that, there's really not much else to see or do. Way too many people as well.

It’s peak cherry blossom season, and it’s absolutely gorgeous in the park. Plenty of room to socially distance but still appreciate nature. What a gem in Newark. Some areas around the main lake are very muddy, so if the path isn’t paved, don’t walk down that way. The park would also benefit from some trash clean up, but the main areas remain quite clean.

I go on walks here regularly. There is a moderate amount of traffic by people jogging, walking atvs exercising. The trees are beautiful and most of the park is very well kept. There are a few spots along the trail that consistently has trash.

Cherry blossoms are beautiful here. No need to go to Washington DC, you see as many trees here. Come early as the parking fills up and you have to park a little far away.

Absolutely gorgeous. The tennis courts are abundant, the cherry blossoms brought life to the park, open areas for play and picnics. You can easily spend the day as a couple, with the kids or alone.

This park was absolutely amazing and beautiful. I really loved the look and it's an amazing place to take my girlfriend on picnics. I really enjoy all the cherry blossoms they have, and how else they're taking care of. Also the roller skating rink nearby is really cute and one of a kind. Very clean and friendly. It is a big park with various types of areas, including working out/running, picnicking, many water areas, baseball fields, tennis courts, and a roller skating rink. The playgrounds in the Belleville area are my my favorite to take my little one. The Cherry blossoms are annual and definitely worth the trip! Check their website for holiday events; they sometimes have concert/fire works/ etc... Barbecuing is NOT allowed :/ hit the thumbs up button if this was helpful! This is a beautiful park, that must be seen while the cherry blossoms are in bloom. It does get packed on the weekends, so have patience, take the ride through. I promise, you'll enjoy the beauty of it. It's a popular park for special portraits, Easter, weddings, etc. So be prepared to wait your turn at the most beautiful spots.

This park is a nice oasis, especially in the spring before, during, and after peak bloom. Parking is always easy. Drivers slow down and yield to pedestrians for the most part. Most of the walking paths are accessible for people using canes, walkers, or wheelchairs. The park is well maintained and clean. Free nature, yay!

This park is a diamond in the rough. It's a wonderful place to visit in the spring because of all the cherry blossoms in bloom. However, be aware that many other people will have the same thoughts. It can get very busy during peak bloom. The best areas for cherry blossoms are at the northernmost and southernmost points of the park. If you go between mid-April to early May, try to get there before 2pm because parking can become hectic. There is PLENTY of parking around, you just have to be okay with driving a little and then walking.

Better Than central park...well, just as good. I love all things Newark. We just seem to nail the big city attractions and give them a small community vibe. Cherry Blossom season bring people from all corners. It is literally the busiest time at the part and undoubtedly to most beautiful. Runners, cyclist, anglers, yogis, bird watcher, etc. They are all at home at this park. My family and I do it all. There are plenty of open fields for picnics. I even caught a game of cricket being played. Recently, we have been hanging out more at the tennis courts and the roller rink. They roller rink is some of the best fun with reasonable prices.

We went there for the blossom festival and it was just amazing! Such great variety of blossoms with great colors. There was some shows there that were fun as well! I definitely recommend checking it out while it's still available!

Its absolutely beautiful during the cherry blossom event. People come from all over the world to see. Of course this year not so much due to covid. But that means it was easy to find parking and there were not huge crowds. The park is clean and well kept. It looks magical and is a beautiful place to walk. They have a cherry blossom pavilion with many public bathrooms available. The one I used was clean, which was a nice surprise. If you want to go see the blossoms, go quickly because they do not last long.

Living so close to the park I may have a biased opinion but I will say that whenever I bring a friend out to the park they are amazed by its size, cleanliness, landscaping and wildlife. Obviously a park is a great place to get in a workout, spend a day with family, or enjoy time by yourself. There's a great trail system as we, it's a tad hard to follow but a nice added feature since again the park is pretty large.

What an amazing find in the middle of the city! We were about a week too early for the full effect of the cherry blossoms but caught them in the budding stage. They were so beautiful that I can only imagine how breathtaking they were the following week. The park offered ample space to roam and clean facilities. The paths were clearly marked for events and the playground was a huge hit. It was a great way to spend the day outside. Can't wait to go back.

A few weeks ago, 3 Generations of our family spent a nice day in the BB Park, under the trees and out of the Sun. 8 year young nephew was able to play a lil basketball w/ older fellow ball players, while visiting from out-of-state--he's a beast for his age 😂. This dedicated & disciplined young man was able to keep working on his skills, while away from home, and got a kick out of the competition and us watching, alongside the court. Later, he and his siblings hit the playground close by, we then all had lunch, enjoyed a lil badminton, followed by UNO, while sitting out in the grass on our blankets. What a wonderful day it turned out to be inside of the Branch Brook Park.

The cherry blossoms at the Branch Brook Park were beautiful. The park was crowded because it was Easter Sunday afternoon and the weather was warm and sunny. There was no problem finding parking. We were able to take pictures of the trees in bloom and enjoy our walk through the park. Most of the people on our walk were wearing masks. The park does need some clean up. There was litter everywhere. Hoping that there's a clean up before the summer. We do plan to visit again.

A perfect spot to enjoy the spring blooms. Plenty of Cherry Blossom trees. Check their website for peak bloom. The park does get very crowded on the weekends and finding a parking spot can be challenge, still worth it, since its totally beautiful. Try going on a Friday evening or early on if weekends. Weekdays are less busier as well. It is kids and dog friendly.

The rink is large and the floors are nice. I went on a family night on Sunday and it wasn't packed. The skate session was shortened due to someone injuring themselves at the start of the session, so it would have been nice ( by nice I mean fair) to extend the session at the end.

The trees were mostly still in bud but now I know when to come back, as I have done every year since 1971. Hint: come at 7am, before it's jammed bumper to bumper and there are no spaces left to park. Management: please put up signs that NO tearing off branches is allowed. I saw it last week and I know it happens regularly.

Great park for riding bikes or running/walking. Lots of winding trails into some scenic areas. Even thou there is a little trash due to people not picking up after themselves, you could see the love an care that the ground keepers put into taking care of this park. Went on supposedly the last day of cherry blossom bloom fest. There were still plenty of trees in bloom, but were mostly in pockets around the visitor center and sports center. Park was crowded, but mostly folks followed the mask and social distancing rules. We walked from the sports center to the visitor center, a good 2 mile walk. The pathway is clean and made of the bouncy material which is easy on the knees. All in all a good experience

I LOVE this park. This is my peaceful place. I just completed 5 laps around the track. Today was simply tranquil. There were no more than 6 people on the track at any given time. All of us were socially distanced and masked up. Way to shed this COVID weight!!!!

I had all day to wander, and looped the entire trail around the park. The park is massive and has several different sections. It is a fantastic escape from the city and is clean for the most part. There are a lot of places here for outdoor activities and sports. It was nice to see people enjoying the park and being active, there are several streams and lakes/ponds here which are scenic. Someone told me that the cherry blossoms here in the spring are some of the best in the world!

I was fortunate enough to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom here a few years ago. This year, not so lucky. There were still some cherry blossoms around but I think we came about a week too late. We dropped by on a Saturday at around 1 pm and it was pretty crowded. We were afraid of what the parking situation would look like but it was actually pretty easy to find free street parking. Even though there were a lot of parked cars, it seemed like someone was always leaving. Will try again next year but will go on a weekday just to avoid the crowds. Also seems like a nice place for a picnic, which not a lot of people were doing. Most were just crowding around the few cherry blossoms that were still in bloom. Tip - there's a cherry blossom cam on their site (but seems like only a few of them work)

I love the scenery: so many squirrels and birds to see. The grass is clean and is perfect for picnics or just to lay around in the sun—many trees to relax and sit. There are also trails to walk around the entire park. Great for jogging. There are some exercise stations for those who might want to work out.
